This bachelor´s thesis deals with the issue of leisure time during the first Czechoslovak republic, is in the 1920s and 1930s. It is based on approaches and knowledge of cultural history. In its introductory part, it provides an overview of basic terms, from the concept of leisure time to the concept of cultural history. The main goal of this work is to show and describe given contents of a free time during the first republic, especially related to the stay in nature and care of a human body. The following chapters cover these topics: travelling, tourism, scouting, tramping, summer apartments, spas and sport organizations.

The diploma thesis focuses on a child as a tool of ideological manipulation in interwar journals targeted to children readers, especially on ideological connotations in the journals. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part will deal with the meaning of the term ideology, its conceptions and values. Subsequently, the position of ideology in the society will be defined with the main focus on ideology as a system of communication. Furthermore, the concepts of individual political ideologies will be elaborated as much as schematization of ideology within the left-wing and right-wing political parties. To understand better the term ideology and to simplify the following process in the practical part of the thesis the historical changes of the ideology and its politicization will be described. Lastly, the perception of ideology in interwar period will be adumbrated. In the practical part of the thesis the chosen interwar journals targeted to children readers will be analysed in terms of ideology. The journals will be chosen according to their affiliation to certain, not only politically oriented, associations. The degree of political agitation and the use of a child as an agitation tool will be examined in these interwar journals: Anděl strážný (1882-1941, 1945-1948), Lípa (1925-1940), Malý čtenář (1882-1941), Rajská zahrádka (1892-1942), Růžový palouček (1921-1941, 1948/1949), Sokolské jaro (1936-1941), Svítání (1915-1918) a Zlatá brána (1919-1943).

The master thesis follows the research within the framework of the Student Monuments Mission which among other things found a higher occurrence of family houses made of bricks in Prague districts Střešovice, Dejvice and Bubeneč from the first half of the 20th century. The research discovered also a striking proportion of artists among their builders. The student will work with the list of these buildings and analyse them in the core chapter of thesis including typology and classifying into context with the surrounding buildings. This part will be prepared by introductory chapters in which will be presented brick like a material in history, will be showed traditional of producing and using bricks in Prague architecture. Then will be focused brick as a means of expression of modern architecture, from a global context to more elaborate Czech and Prague architecture. Student will summarize the analysis of individual buildings in conclusion and try to explain the primordial research. The master thesis will include a pictorial supplement.

Backround: Cocaine is an addictive substance which was very popular during the First republic in higher society, although there was no historical tradition of its use. Interest in foreign culture, however, brought many phenomena to the Czechoslovak Republic, including drugs - hashish, morphine and cocaine. Aim: The aim of this work is to chart cocaine abuse in the Czechoslovak Republic during the First republic and describe this period in the context of drug use. Methods: I used content analysis of documents for data collection. The documents were categorized according the years of their release. I used text documents, sound and video recordings. Text documents were most often historical newspaper articles published during the First republic, but also literatue dealing with the relevant issues published in the later period. I also searched for sources from already published documents. Results and conclusion: Cocaine was abused in the Czechoslovak Republic during the First republic abundantly. At first, it was promoted as a miracle cure for the treatment of morphineism and also for its local anesthetic effect. Before long, however, its dependency potencial became apparent. The aim of this MA dissertation is to focus on the language isolate of Jihlava mostly in the 20th century. In particular, on the events regarding the situation during the First Republic, when the tension between the Czech and German speaking citizens started to increase. The first part will be dedicated to a territorial and administrative division in order to establish grounds upon which the discussed events will be clarified and described in terms of ethnic and territorial situation. To resume the topic of my BA thesis and to accentuate the facts and results with regard to geographical demarcation, I would like to focus on the presidial writings from which I have already drawn in said thesis. I will attempt to reconstruct all the sources, except for the letters taken from archives which I have already used in my BA thesis. Emphasis will be put on the policy situation and then reports of the security authorities which were monitoring the difficult situation in the language isolate of Jihlava and which were reporting all the relevant information.

The thesis Radio Broadcasting for the German Minority in the Czech Countries until the Year 1945, with the Example of the Melnik Broadcast Transmitter describes the radio broadcasting for the German people living in Bohemia and Moravia in the period from its formation until the year 1945. It concentrates on the radio broadcaster in Melnik that was built in 1938 with the purpose of giving a special broadcasting to the German minority living in the Czech countries. The analytical part is divided into three sections: broadcasting for the Germans in the First and Second Republic and Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Another chapter focuses on the broadcasting from The Soviet Union (especially on the broadcaster Sudetendeutscher Freiheitssender) and Great Britain. It focuses on the contrasting access to the radio broadcasting for this group from the side of the Czech political representation and from the side of the German state. This thesis describes the transformation of a parish life in Stará Říše in the context of historical events of the first half of the 20th century. This historical period represents the parish at the beginning of the new millennium, in the reflection of the first world war, a more peaceful period of the First Republic, then the 2nd World War and finally shows the changes brought by the new politico-economic structure of society. This thesis also focuses on the development of the parish under the patronage of the nearby Premonstratensian monastery in Nová Říše, under whose administration the parish always historically belonged. Finally, the attention is paid to the personality of Josef Florian, who is widely known for his publishing activities. His Publisher attracted many artists and writers into Stará Říše, on the other hand, his point of views became a source of disagreement between him, local people and monastery.

This bachelor thesis deals with history of education in the Eastern Bohemian village Dohalice during 1865 - 1938. The education is one of the most important momentsfor studying history of every day life. Goal of this thesis is not chronological describing of the history of concrete school, located in Dohaličky, but on the example of this particular school show the general evolution of education in the Czech lands. The thesis is also interested in other topics connected with the education for instance the status of teachers, the relationship between the church and the teacher, the soup institute, the popular agricultural school, the local school council, the school trips or hounuring the head of the state which we can study in the school chronicle. The primary sources mainly consist of the funds from the regional archive in Hradec Kralové. I consider the most important funds, the Primary school Dohalice and Deyl Václav.

Main theme of the thesis is the Czechoslovak Maneuvers in 1936. The thesis is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter focuses on the creation of Czechoslovak army, the perion 1918-1932. The second chapter targets the reorganization of army in the period 1932-1936. The Third chapter is dedicated to the issue of armed forces in the period of the Austrian emperor.The fourth chapter is focused on the Czechoslovak Maneuvres in 1936 and research preparations, course, and made knowleges from the great interwar's maneuvres of Czechoslovak army. The fifth chapter closes arbitration service in the maneuvres. The sixth chapter deals with foreign's delegations on maneuvers and finally the seventh chapter is devoted to attitude and reakcions of czechoslovak's press and mankind.

This work deals with realizations of Otto Rothmayer in the Prague Castle, where we can find the most significant pieces of his lifelong work. It will be chronologically divided by several life periods, initially starts from collaboration with Josiph Plečnik, then his own works and at the end the post-war period. Otto Rothmayer was a modest and almost inconspicuous man, maybe it's just one of the reasons why haven't been written any respectable monographs about him. He was very conscientious and he didn't try to enforce his own inventions or historical styles into the reconstructed architecture, without affecting it. Always, already standing architecture, was precedence over his abilities, therefore is his piece so unique and harmonic. I would like to try to focus on brilliantly performed renovation of the Terezian wing (in the meaning of timelessness), which got after putting spindle staircase completely new dimension. Otto Rothmayer excelled with the talent to insert his pragmatic, sometimes almost cool effect objects into the vibrant history of the Prague Castle with a unique intuition of one of the best architects of the modern era.

The aim of this work is the analysis of a typology of characters in the serial novel, which was published in women's magazines in the interwar period. For this thesis were used methodology of quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of selected five novels to continue. The work was focused on the period 1931 - 1939. Obtained data were found identical types and features the characters used in contemporary novels to continue. They were found the common aspects of serial novels that formed the primary source material of this thesis. The research was obtained the basic data for working with literary figures of romantic fiction. In this work was prepared model the main male and female character appearing in the novels to continue. In this work was constructed the model of serial novel. Part of the thesis has brought an analysis of novels and their characters have been converted into a movie. This work confirmed the importance of the continuation novels, as a key department of women's periodicals in the interwar period. The contribution of this work is to analyze the most frequently used characters in the novels to continue. The thesis named "Sense of Life in the Work of Karel Čapek" treats the problems of raison- d'etre of life seen by Karel Čapek. At first this thesis is preoccupied by Čapek's personality and character of his era. Karel Čapek is characterized as an author in whose works were projected his philosophical views influenced mainly by pragmatism. The thesis analyses Čapek's works treating issues of sense of life. Particularly these are two proses by Čapek "Obyčejný život" (Common Life) and "Život a dílo skladatele Foltýna "(The Life and Work of Composer Foltýn). These two novels are at first analyzed separately and then compared.

The diploma thesis focuses on the experimental and educational reform schools, that have been developed and operated in the 20th and 30th of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia. It shows the political situation in the newly formed Czechoslovakia, as weel as monitors the development of education after 1918. The core of this diploma thesis is in the reform efforts of selected experimental schools. It presents experimental work school in Holešovice, "Dům dětství" in Horní Krnsko and "Dětská farma" of Eduard Štroch. In this part of thesis were the educational devices and objectives of these experimental schools, the organization and progress of teaching described. It also focuses on the selected individuals who were participated in their creation. The thesis analyzes the reform effort, which was followed by reform educators in the 30th, mainly the reform attempt of Václav Příhoda and his unitary educational model.

The goal of this thesis is to show the life and functioning of the Senate of the National Assembly of Czechoslovakia. The upper house of the Czechoslovak Parliament functioned between 1920 and 1939 after which it was officially dissolved during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. In the concerned period, the chamber was gradually saw 444 lawmakers of seven different nationalities. The biggest number consisted of Czechs and Germans. The functioning of the Senate is analyzed from multiple angles. First the debate accompanying the establishment of a second chamber before the adoption of the new Constitution in 1920 is analyzed. Attention is also paid to the period debates and unrealized proposals for a Senate reform at the end the 1920's, linked to the proposed creation of the Economic Parliament. Also shown is the proportional representation electoral system used for elections to the Senate. The results were reflected in a large number of political parties with low electoral gains, which in turn hindered the creation of a stable political environment. This essay deals with historical analysis of dailiness of journalists during the period of the First Republic, which takes from october 1918 to september 1938. The focus is concentrated on their everyday duties, problems and work-habits. This essay describes legal and social frame of journalistic work. The first part concerns with characteristic and theoretical framework of journalistic practice including the profesionalism, the educational process and the social status of journalists. The second part of the essay deals with the dailiness, everyday practises and duties of the members of editorial staff, family life of journalists and their sources of information. This work describes two concrete examples which represent the most respected newsroom in the Czechoslovakia during the period of the First Republic. The aim of this essay is to describe changes that occured in this period and which can now be seen as foundations of modern journalism.

Bachelor thesis The headmaster during the First Republic (1918 - 1938) describes what rights, responsibilities and competences headmaster of school had in the past, which specific activities he had to devote during the school year, and what was his role in the former education system. The work was written on the basis of a detailed study of historical materials and their critical evaluation. The actual content of the work provides information about the actual school director, but also the First Republic system of education at primary schools today. The conclusion of the work summarizes which of the roles of the First Republic headmaster finally prevailed. With regard to administrative duties, which he had been determined, it was mostly about the role of caretaker. Bachelor thesis also confirms that in history is possible to find enlightenment and inspiration.

in English In my diploma paper I am dealing with Protection of the Republic Act from 1923. When and also under what conditions this act was coming up . The next chapter is about the law as a whole and then in more details I analyse the most important enactments. After that follow analysis of updatings of this act and the next chapter is about the application of the code in the judicial practice. The second part of the thesis deals with the press legislation of the Czechoslovakian Republic and with fields of the press law, and with the application of the press law in the judicial practice as well. The last chapter finally analyzes press offenses contained in the Protection of the Republic Act.

The fact of the Province of Sao Paulo has become a major coffee exporter made of it a strong enslaver center. No one can deny the influence of four centuries of slavery, nor its effects on the nation. Slavery was abolished on May 13, 1888, and this measure has launched in the streets a crowd of free blacks without any future prospects. They were not prepared to live in freedom, the society was not organized to receive them as free workers and pay for their work. Many people thought of them as lazy, loafer and riotous. They were never treated as equals, but as a mediocre and inferior race, whose immorality and excesses reach an irreversible point, if not controlled. Given this situation, it was necessary to draw up plans to curb excesses and the fury of the great mass of freedmen loose in the streets, it became an extreme urgency to use several means in order to maintain the social control, inculcating in the black people minds the harm caused by the riots, the duty of work, the abandonment of the vices. Therefore, intellectuals, politicians and major exporters (who represented the economic power of the time) started to use the various media for propagation of republican values, newspapers, political conferences, newsletters and, also, the educational system. Through reading books, educational magazine articles, addition of new disciplines to the school curriculum and even the action of the teacher in the classroom aimed at the docility of the people habits. The Republicans who took political power in the country were not only concerned in educating the few, who had access to schooling, but also, though example, educate and calm down the lazy and loafer blacks who could not attend school. Thence resulting in a great concern about the establishment of rules, organization, respect and punishments in the newly restructured school environment (AU) O presente trabalho tem como objetivo o estudo da rebeldia negra nos anos antecedentes a escravidão e suas conseqüências, tanto social como educacional. O fato da Província de São Paulo ter se tornado uma grande exportadora de café fez dela um forte centro escravocrata. Não se pode negar a influência de quatro séculos de escravidão, nem tão pouco seus efeitos sobre a nação. Em 13 de maio de 1888 fora decretada a abolição, e esta medida lançou nas ruas uma multidão de negros livres sem qualquer perspectiva de futuro. Não foram preparados para viver em liberdade, a sociedade não estava organizada para recebê-los como trabalhadores livres e pagar por seu trabalho. Ao olhar de muitos eram tidos como preguiçosos, vadios e desordeiros. Os republicanos que assumiram o poder político do país não estavam apenas preocupados em educar os poucos que tinham acesso à escolarização, mas também, através do exemplo, educar e acalmar os ânimos dos negros vadios e preguiçosos que não podiam freqüentar a escola. This bachelor thesis aims to analyse and interpret acts of the significant personality Edvard Beneš during from the era of the first republic in the first half of the twentieth century. It emphasizes on important acts of our history, in which this significant and inconsidently valuable personality took place. Furthermore it concentrates on the psychological analysis of Edvard Beneš. It describes this personality either from the point of view of his public policitical acts, or from the view of his private life. At the same time it tries to outline the mutual impact of both these important influences on his personality. Hypothesis verified in this dissertation might be used as an educational support while explaining decisions and acts of this personality, which radically influenced the development of the most important acts during in the first half of the 20th century.

Dissertation thesis discusses the consumption of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate in the interwar period in the Czechoslovakia. On the basis of statistical data and examination of archival sources comes with the definition of the middle classes of the population, which those commodities consumed. The thesis shows the distribution of consumption of commodities based on the survey in blue-collar and white-collar families. Furthermore provides insight into the lives of families, distribution of their spending and the size of income. It refers to the representation of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate in the consumer basket and shows the elasticity of the mentioned commodities. For the central part of the research of the dissertation thesis chose the Czech territory only, because here were without difficulty accessible data sources. The Dissertation thesis clarifies the causes of consuming cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate and concludes that each was consumed from another purpose, which resulted status of these commodities. Tea consumption has been designed especially for the higher classes of the population, chocolate bought mostly white-collar family, but over twenties speared consumption of chocolate products also among the middle and lower classes into the population. The chocolate products were subject to early 20s of the luxury tax. Cocoa was used in connection with cooking and baking, but families didnt use this product frequently. Coffee drank all layers of the population, but consumption was based on the social status of the consumer. Very frequently families consume rye coffee and chicory coffee. Dissertation thesis also highlights the regional differences between the classes, which were further intensified. Thesis examines in detail the amount of the duties of the commodity, which in the interwar period varied widely, and concludes that the duty to disproportionately increase the price of products and made it impossible for consumers to buy more of cocoa, coffee, tea and chocolate.

The thesis The elite of town of Tábor 1848-1938 is dedicated to political life and its inseparably linked social life in the town of Tábor. Firstly this thesis charts to what extent the political and social life was connected. That is why it is necessary to target to the structure of the town municipal council, which is the second aim of submitted thesis. So that we could determinate those who were elected into the town municipal councils and subsequently into the town counsel, we have to analyse the electoral registries, although their preservation is greatly diverse. Moreover, the important part of elite of the town is its life, i. e. where its members lived, whether so-called good address existed, how big family the particular member of the elite had got. Style of life is naturally related to standard of living. Its modern form was presented by the villas, which originated in Tábor at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century and their building continued mainly at the time of the First Republic. And it is the First Republic to which the last aim of this thesis is linked. I tried to outline its development and pertinent change in the structure of the local elite. In the supplement of the thesis I added the biograms of the particular burgesses and naturally, the list of the sources and literature is linked too.

This diploma thesis deals with the system of education during the period of the First Republic in Czechoslovakia. It focuses on teachers at experimental schools who specialized in social training and education with regards to social work orientated to children and the families they come from. Numerous activities of the teachers in question are described and then evaluated. In the first part of the thesis the author analyzes the teachers'approach to social training and social work in general. Firstly, the work includes a description of the economic situation and the social status of families with children during the First Republic; secondly, it deals with the state social policies regarding poor families and their children. It presents both the facts on the standard of living found in the research surveys and the origins of the educational initiatives of the Czech teachers of that time. It also takes into account the intellectual sources that could influence them and direct them more to the social aspects of the educational process. The main objective of the thesis is to compare presidential elections of the first Czechoslovak President T.G.Masaryk between 1918 and 1934. The paper deals with the particular elections, their process and impact on the political development of the First Republic. The first chapter is focused on the history of the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic and the presidential office in the new state. The second chapter depicts the political course of events and the dispute on the founding democratic concept of the state during the election in 1920 and the critical one in 1927. The latter part of the thesis is dedicated to the problem of Masaryk's successor and to the presidential election in 1934 when Czechoslovakia appeared on the brink of the democratic crisis of the 1930s.

Diploma thesis "Media representation of homosexuals in the journal Hlas" deals with the ways in which gay people are represented in the journal Hlas (1931-1938) whereas Hlas was a journal aimed directly at the homosexual minority. This thesis employs the qualitative analysis method to uncover the regularities of the representation of homosexuals. It concentrates on the description of the homosexuals themselves, their characteristics and qualities, as well as relation between the homosexual minority and society.

The thesis deals with the attitudes of political parties during the debating of media issues in the National Assembly of the First Czechoslovak Republic between 1920 and 1929. It surveys the parties' positions during the debating of the media legislation and parties' attitudes on the practice of confiscation and censorship in the context of the importance of the press for the party politics. Since the political parties' positions were strongly influenced by the specific context of the era, attention is also devoted to some of the peculiar characteristics of the First Republic.
