TOURISM ,COVID-19 pandemic ,DIGITAL technology ,PROBLEM solving ,SOCIOCULTURAL factors ,BORDERLANDS - Abstract
The article focuses on the cultural and civilisational potential of Russian eastern borders and China border regions. The issues raised in this article seem to be topical in the context of two circumstances: first, tourist contacts have undergone significant transformations in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and second, the aggravating situation with the emergence of barriers to entry into the European tourism space makes China one of the most attractive regions for tourism development. The concept of 'border' appears as a unique sociocultural space where regional culture functioning is mediated by the influence of three cultural dimensions (national, local and foreign). In the era of digitalisation, online platforms act as a modern space for the concentration and accumulation of tourist content. Updating the work on online platforms can become one of the ways of solving the identified problems in the border tourism sector. The article gives a possible solution to the above issues based on the original model of 'regional cultures dialogueness in the borderland', its integration into the concept of tourism development in the border areas. The authors suggest recommendations on the vector of modern state policy regarding the development of tourism initiatives in the Russian–Chinese border area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The subject of the article are two regional events, a competition and a review of the folklore of Polish Spisz: Spiskie Zwyki and Spiska Watra. They are organized each year, respectively, in winter and summer at the Dunajec Castle in Niedzica and in the Communal Cultural Center in Łapsze Niżne with its seat in Niedzica. The discussed region is a small fragment of a historical land, the main part of which is located on the territory of Slovakia. It was part of the Kingdom of Hungary for hundreds of years, hence its specificity and cultural identity. In the light of the ethnographic research, the analyzed events belong to ethno-performance practices that combine artistic and social aspects. The first is an expression of regional aesthetics and artistry (verbal and musical folklore, dance, regional costume), the second – the ritual nature of events serving identity processes. In the light of the findings, the discussed cases of ethno-performance represent cultural legacy in the mode of heritage. In this sense, they are a form different from the older tradition and can be considered a kind of metacultural practice and metacultural commentary on regional culture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Lu silk is a cultural symbol that records the unique social life and thoughts of people in southeastern Shanxi containing rich folk customs and culture and reflecting distinct regional characteristics. The weaving technology of Lu silk is not only one of the national intangible cultural heritages but also a classic representative of Shanxi silk weaving technology. However due to the decline of the Lu silk industry in the later period and the lack of relative data there are few studies on it. At present studies mainly focus on the artistic style and digital protection methods of Lu silk and studies on the craftsmanship of Lu silk are mostly limited to records of its traditional handicrafts. There is still a gap in the exploration of Lu silk jacquard craftsmanship. The research on the dyeing of Lu silk is limited to the interpretation of colors and the literature review of dyeing methods without restoring the dyeing process of Lu silk. To provide people with a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the weaving process of Lu silk this article takes Lu silk objects woven by traditional techniques as the research object and interprets the weaving and dyeing process of Lu silk from the perspective of historical and culture region and folk customs in southeastern Shanxi. The main idea is to conduct deep research on the unique weaving process of Lu silk including symmetrical weaving the combination of stick knives and pattern needles and layered dyeing process. It can provide valuable experience for studies on intangible cultural heritage in the future so that traditional textile technology of Lu silk can be better promoted and inherited. Interpreting the weaving and dyeing techniques of Lu silk from the perspective of historical culture regional factors and folk customs in southeastern Shanxi is a typical case study of the relationship between regional culture and traditional techniques and can fill the gap in the overall framework providing valuable experience for further research on intangible cultural heritage. The research has shown that the weaving and dyeing process of Lu silk is closely related to the geographical environment historical culture folk customs and other factors in southeastern Shanxi and contains rich humanistic connotations as reflected in the following aspects. First Lu silk takes traditional symmetry as beautiful and expands the width of the covered door by combining practicality and aesthetics through symmetrical assembly techniques lifting devices and adding plain edges. The lifting device introduced with the appearance of modern jacquard machines needs to be coordinated with the stick knife to achieve the highest efficiency. Its unique embedded symmetrical structure not only saves the workload of artisans in drawing but also improves the width of the quilt surface under a limited number of stitches. The combination of artistic aesthetics and weaving techniques reflects the external characteristics of folk preferences and reflects the traditional and natural folk customs. Second the special regional characteristics of combining roughness and delicacy as well as the open exchange of Shanxi merchant culture have driven the migration of value orientation in southeastern Shanxi jointly affecting the raw materials weave structure and exquisite expression of Lu silk. Using filature silk and synthetic silk with better performance for interweaving reduces hairiness and weaving defects to a certain extent and by utilizing the differences in fineness between warp and weft the full and three-dimensional pattern can be better expressed the weave structure is often paired with satin and floating length resulting in a good appearance glossiness the various processing techniques used by the artisan such as Jiansi shadowing and Nidi all enhance the three-dimensional effect of the pattern. Third the red worshiping custom in southeastern Shanxi is in line with Chinese tradition which is mainly reflected in the main color tone of Lu silk regarding red as beautiful. Traditional Lu silk is dyed with grass and wood with safflower as the red dye. The red color of modern Lu silk originated from the national flag red. By adopting a layered dyeing process and utilizing the difference in dyeing performance between mulberry silk and artificial silk a set of warp colors and two sets of weft colors are presented. This article interprets the weaving process of Lu silk from the perspective of regional culture and folk customs in southeastern Shanxi explores the manifestation of regional cultural value in Lu silk fabrics reconstructs the cultural identity centered on Lu silk and aims to inherit and revive Lu silk skills. The mythical novel King Gesar, retold by Alai and translated by Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Li-chun Lin, aims to disseminate Chinese national culture globally through translation. Based on the theory of cognitive construal, this paper comparatively analyzes the similarities and differences in three types of regional cultural expressions, namely natural landscapes, colloquialisms, and Tibetan Buddhist terminologies, between the source and target language texts. The study describes the complex connotations of cultural expressions and the translators' comprehension and selection of the connotations in translation. Facing the translation challenges of cultural expressions with diverse connotations, Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Li-chun Lin fully exert their subjectivity as translators, actively adjust the dimensions of construal, prioritize the conveyance of informational connotations, and also take into account the emotional and aesthetic connotations of cultural expressions. The theory of cognitive construal helps to reveal the process of translators' subjective understanding of cultural expressions, explore effective cross-cultural translation strategies, solve the myth of cultural untranslatability, and enhance the "going out" effects of Chinese culture. The impact of regional architecture on residents' identities varies, involving complex emotional aspects. We conducted an in-depth study of the deep connection between regional architecture and identity in China's Huizhou and Minnan regions, highlighting its key role in stimulating authentic pride. Initially, we carried out a survey among 433 residents from both regions using questionnaires to obtain quantitative data, revealing the mediating role of authentic pride. Subsequently, we conducted in-depth interviews with 20 residents from 4 villages of the 2 regions, and the coding results explained the multidimensional reasons behind the quantitative analysis outcomes. This research not only deepened the understanding of how regional architecture impacts identity recognition but also highlighted the urgency of preserving regional culture under the pressures of globalization and modernization. Moreover, this study provided strong reasons for the preservation of architectural heritage, emphasizing its importance as a cornerstone of identity and a means to enhance community cohesion. To study the rationality and coordination of landscape design for elevated railway stations, the aesthetics of architectural form and a deep analysis was conducted by using the methods of summarization and project analysis.(1) Station selection: The visual impact of the station and its section on the urban landscape should be fully considered.(2) Regional cultural artistry: The uniqueness of regional culture should be highlighted and closely integrated with the nature of transportation architecture.(3) Station lightweighting: The actual volume of the station should be minimized to achieve visual lightness and flexibility.(4) Reflecting the attributes of transportation architecture: While coordinating with the surrounding environment, the station should also have recognizable characteristics of transportation architecture. Finally, the research results were applied to the landscape design of the elevated railway stations of Wuhu Line 1 and Line 2 Phase 1. The design concept of "consistent segment, customized line color" was adopted by incorporating elements of Wuhu's regional culture into the station landscape, echoing the city's historical and cultural heritage. The station volume was controlled in terms of length, width, and height to achieve lightweighting and reduce the station's scale. Architectural forms, colors, and materials were kept simple, eliminating unnecessary decorations while meeting the functional requirements of the station. The optimized combination of functional spaces in the station provides maximum convenience for operation and management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study documents corporate culture at the time of initial public offering (IPO) and the relationship between corporate culture at the time of IPO and firm financial performance. Based on a sample of 1157 US firms that went public between 1996 and 2011 and performance information through 2016, the data provide strong evidence that regional culture, industry characteristics, and pre‐IPO financing play key roles in explaining a firm's cultural orientation. Moreover, the data indicate that IPO firms with a highly competition‐ and creation‐oriented culture experience higher profitability and less risk of financial distress than other IPO firms. Urban waterfront space has important practical significance for inheriting and developing urban cultural characteristics, promoting the driving role of culture in urban development, and creating regional cultural artistic conceptions. This study comprehensively uses the methods of bibliometric visual knowledge map analysis and a qualitative reading of literature, systematically combing through the relevant research literature with the help of quantitative analysis and a qualitative perception of the literature analysis system. Through this approach, this study summarizes the stage characteristics, theoretical basis, and implications of waterfront space research from the perspective of historical inheritance. The research methods, research content, and hotspots clarified the research context of waterfront space from the perspective of historical inheritance. Based on bibliometric analysis, it is evident that research on the historical inheritance to waterfront space is primarily driven by universities and spans disciplines such as human habitat science, ecology, geography, urban planning, and architecture. Human settlement environment theory, cultural space theory, and place narrative theory together constitute the theoretical framework of the research on the historical inheritance of waterfront space. Domestic research on the historical inheritance to waterfront space in China primarily relies on traditional qualitative methods, while quantitative empirical methods have yet to become mainstream. In general, the research concerning the historical inheritance of waterfront space can be divided into three stages: first, a phase focused on the development and construction of waterfront spaces oriented towards recreation, commerce, and tourism functions; second, a stage of transforming and renewing waterfront spaces by leveraging urban development processes; and third, a stage aimed at preserving the unique cultural heritage of cities through the historical continuity of waterfront spaces. The transformation and revival of waterfront industrial heritage, the renewal and protection of waterfront historic blocks, and the protection and utilization of historical waterfront public space culture have become hot topics in the current research on the historical inheritance of waterfront space in China. This study concludes that the existing research is faced with problems such as unbalanced research areas, insufficient empirical research, and a serious separation of "pleasure" and the "ideal". Future research should focus on the system of waterfront space research as it deeply enriches the research methods, improves the research system, and provides direction and support for the historical inheritance and protection of research of China's waterfront space.

chinese architecture ,evolution ,historical causes ,jiehua ,regional culture ,Technology ,Technology (General) ,T1-995 - Abstract
Jiehua, a unique ancient Chinese art form, uses measuring tools to depict architectural themes. Traditional architectural forms in these paintings have been a focal point for experts in Chinese architecture. Despite emerging studies highlighting the value of exploring these ancient architectural forms, few studies have analyzed the internal forces behind the development of ancient Chinese architecture through Jiehua paintings. However, this is vital for studying the continuity of contemporary Chinese architectural culture. This study aims to explore the elements crucial to the evolution and continuation of traditional Chinese architectural culture in contemporary architectural design by analyzing the evolution of traditional Chinese architectural forms within different historical periods and their historical causes. An in-depth literature review enabled the selection of 12 representative Jiehua paintings from various historical periods as samples. The evolution of traditional Chinese architectural forms in these paintings was documented using visual observation methods, and Panofsky's theoretical framework of iconography was used to help explain and understand the historical causes of ancient Chinese architectural forms. The study results show that regional cultural conditions significantly impact traditional Chinese architectural forms, and the main elements affecting the expression of architectural locality include geography, cultural traditions, and economic development. This finding will shed light on the inheritance of traditional Chinese architectural culture and the innovative direction of contemporary architectural forms.

gastronomic culture ,gastronomic image of the territory ,gastronomic brand ,geobranding ,regional culture ,cultural heritage ,General Works ,Social Sciences - Abstract
The article is devoted to the gastronomic culture and its derivative – the gastronomic image of the territory. Gastronomy, as a field of knowledge, reveals the connection between food and culture and is an urgent topic of cultural research. Within the framework of this article, the subject of research is the study of the gastronomic image of the territory from a theoretical point of view. The author seeks to answer the questions: what are the system-forming elements of the gastronomic culture, how do the concepts of “gastronomic image” / “gastronomic brand” relate, what is the structure and what is the specificity of the gastronomic image of the territory in comparison with other perspectives of the positioning of the territory. Method and methodology: the ideas of this article are based on systematic, practical, semiotic approaches in understanding the gastronomic culture, modern gastronomic practices, and the gastronomic image of the city. The novelty and the author’s contribution lies in the theoretical positions that fit into the mainstream of cultural knowledge. The author offers his vision of the system-forming elements of gastronomic culture and his vision of the structure of the gastronomic image of the city as a 4-component fashion: food, places, people, events. The author identifies three specific characteristics of the gastronomic image of the city: 1) authenticity as an optional, not a mandatory feature; 2) dynamism as an indicator of the potentially high variability of the gastronomic image following changing living conditions and available resources; 3) a possible break with the local cultural tradition existing in hidden everyday life, while the gastronomic image is formed in the public sphere with the help of traditional and new media, greedy for hype. The results of the study can be applied in such an area of applied cultural studies as geobrending. A good theory is a guide to action, if you undertake to form a gastronomic image of the city, you need to understand its structure and specifics. The scope of the results: geobranding, cultural industries related to food, brand communications in regional media and new media, tourism.

INNOVATIONS in business ,SOCIAL evolution ,COMMUNITY organization ,REGIONAL development ,SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
The primary aim of this paper is to identify key similarities and differences in the conceptualization of culture across the major theories of regional socioeconomic science, including economic, business, administrative, social, cultural and political dimensions acting at the regional and local scales. The second goal is to present an overview of the knowledge base and third to cohesively examine and partially recreate the topic using the semi-systematic review method. The final objective of examining the aforementioned issues is to clarify the dynamic correlation in the structuring of business and innovation culture, as well as to identify the characteristics that contribute to the sustainable culture of business and regional innovation systems, including long-term sustainable development. The research shows that the coexistence and combination of innovative culture at the business and regional levels should be perceived as a dynamic and co-evolutionary process involving a variety of factors. Local organizations and institutes that foster entrepreneurship are among the elements that enhance the innovation culture; however, having all of the resources in isolation is insufficient for an efficient ecosystem. This study proposes the establishment of a framework that will enhance the growth of innovation, cultural evolution and regional ecosystem performance. The Institutes of Local Development and Innovation (ILDI) are a policy idea that might give effective micro–meso-level solutions for the region. These policy proposals will diagnose the regional business culture under the prism of strategy, technology, and management levels. The specific investigation attempted in this paper demonstrates that several converging fruitful paths have already been created in the relative international literature. These paths could be combined and deepened further by studying the close evolutionary interconnection between business and regional innovation culture as it emerges at a global scale in the present. In view of the homogeneity, the neglect of site characteristics and the difficulty in reflecting regional cultural characteristics of outdoor furniture, in order to improve the public's emotional experience of regional culture, the product design process and methods based on narrative theory have been completed for the outdoor furniture design practice of the Western Sichuan Linpan Landscape Project. By analyzing the characteristics of outdoor furniture under the narrative theory, the event semantic model was used to sort out the narrative elements of the western Sichuan forest plate and constructed the narrative space. The cultural semantics of the Western Sichuan Linpan was translated into the design elements of outdoor furniture, the product features were matched from the three dimensions of produce, environment and action, and the product narrative experience was enhanced. To guide the public's cognitive activities in a narrative way, while improving the cultural connotation of the product, the emotional experience needs of users were met, the audience range of outdoor furniture was expanded, and the design innovation of outdoor furniture was realized. The research aims to provide design method guidance for outdoor furniture products protection and regional characteristic culture inheritation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The thesis explores the determinants of corporate social responsibility (CSR) adoption and its implications on company financial performance (CFP) and investment in China. In doing so, we aim to answer two primary research questions: (1) how a company's dynamic capabilities-its ability to respond to the changing environment-can influence the company at incorporating CSR into its operations; and (2) how corporate social performance (CSP) is associated with a company's financial accounting and investment performance. The study is divided into three empirical research papers as outlined below. The purpose of paper one is to investigate the determinants that influence a company to incorporate CSR into its operations, which is to adopt strategic CSR (SCSR). The paper primarily examines how a company's dynamic capability can affect the adoption of SCSR. This study draws on the stakeholder, dynamic capability, and neo-institutional theories. Data were collected from 134 Chinese companies listed on the Shenzhen stock exchange (SZSE) and Shanghai stock exchange (SHSE) over the period 2017 to 2019 to examine the role of dynamic capability on SCSR adoption. The findings suggest that a higher level of dynamic capability than the average industrial level negatively affects SCSR adoption. The findings also reveal that dynamic capability, stakeholder pressures, and regional culture are important predictors of the adoption of SCSR. The empirical findings provide valuable insights into how CSR can affect company performance if used strategically. The use of dynamic capability theory in the study explains SCSR adoption from the perspectives of dynamic capabilities. The study partially supports DCT by focusing on the impacts of dynamic capability on SCSR adoption within companies operating in a developing country, China. Paper two aims to investigate how CSP relates to CFP across the company life cycle (CLC) stages, including the introduction, growth, maturity, and decline/shake-out stages. This paper also examines how the focus of CSP, in terms of stakeholder dimensions, shifts across the CLC stages. To examine the two research objectives, we used quantitative data collected from 1,628 large, listed Chinese pharmaceutical companies from 2010 to 2018. Drawing on the resource-based view (RBV), stakeholder theory and CLC theory, the study finds supporting evidence that CFP is improved with better CSP across the CLC stages. It also finds, on the basis of different stakeholder groups and across the CLC stages, that the effects of CSP are different. Investors, employees, suppliers, and the government are the most influential stakeholder groups influencing CFP. The study results suggest that CFP is directly linked to CSP and CLC and that the link is associated with stakeholder dimensions of CSR. Overall, the findings highlight the important role of CLC and CSP, which are often cited as important factors for enhancing CFP. This study provides valuable insights into the influence of CLC on CSP, which in turn may shed light on management practices to allocate resources and improve CFP. Paper three explores the association between CSP and company performance through capital market effects and the role of cash flow volatility (CFV). This paper uses investment-cash flow sensitivity (ICFS) to capture the capital market effects. Drawing on the RBV and stakeholder theory, the association between CSP and ICFS was tested in this paper. To investigate the research objective, this paper used quantitative data collected from 4,082 companies listed on the SZSE and SHSE in China over the period 2010 to 2020. The study finds that companies with better CSP tend to have a greater and significant ICFS in a developing economy such as China. It also finds that the positive association between CSR and ICFS is weaker for companies with a more volatile current CFV and stronger for companies with a more volatile expected CFV. This demonstrates that CFV partially mediates or moderates the relationship between CSP and ICFS. The role of CFV on the association between CSP and ICFS highlights the need for regular management attention and evaluation on the investments and performance in non-financial engagements. This management attention should also be paid when making decisions relating to resource allocation and investment policies. In addition, managers should consider the company's cash flow stability and uncertainty sides in the competitive market environment. These findings suggest that the emphasis on the role of CFV is important in evaluating the performance effect of CSR through the capital market's response. This study contributes to the CSR, financial accounting and investment literature by responding to the call for research in ICFS in the context of developing countries in general and research on the role of CFV on CSP-ICFS association in particular.

The impact of regional architecture on residents’ identities varies, involving complex emotional aspects. We conducted an in-depth study of the deep connection between regional architecture and identity in China’s Huizhou and Minnan regions, highlighting its key role in stimulating authentic pride.

As the times change, Kunming tea houses have evolved throughout history. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Kunming tea houses gradually flourished from simple tea huts, pavilions, shacks, and lodges to the center for information exchange, refreshment, leisure, and commercial transactions, and the important venues for social activities among various social classes. In modern times, Kunming tea houses have shown diversity and prosperity, with their functions continuously expanding to adapt to social changes. They not only disseminated popular culture but also became public spaces for leisure and entertainment. Particularly, the first half of the 20th century experienced a brief abnormal prosperity, during which spending some time in tea houses became an essential part of people’s daily lives. Today, Kunming tea houses embody a combination of tradition and modernity, simplicity and richness, exhibiting significant differences in spatial patterns, social functions, and development characteristics. In light of tea houses, we can not only observe the development and changes of the city, but also indirectly witness the transformations in society, economy, politics, and culture. Purpose: There is an increasing interest in the international management literature in cultural differences between in-country regions. Yet, the regions of any country may be merely political products and not necessarily cultural units. The goal of this article is to propose clear empirical criteria for deciding if a set of entities, such as a country's administrative regions, can be legitimate units of cross-cultural analysis and to test these criteria in an empirical study. Design/methodology/approach: The authors review the literature on what constitutes a unit of cross-cultural analysis and propose empirical criteria. For instance, the regions of a given country are meaningful units of cross-cultural analysis if one can replicate (an) established dimension(s) of culture at the regional level, including some of the dimension(s)' antecedents and predictive properties. The authors apply this test in the context of the Russian Federation (RF), using an RF database (18,768 respondents from 60 administrative regions) with items borrowed from the World Values Survey. Findings: The RF regions pass the authors' test. At the regional level, the selected items yield an individualism-collectivism (IDV-COLL) dimension that is similar to its nation-level counterpart in the revised Minkov-Hofstede model in terms of concept and antecedents (wealth differences and geographic latitude) and outcomes that are relevant in business (innovation rates and quality of governance). The authors also find other patterns that confirm the properties of RF regions as meaningful units of cultural analysis. Research limitations/implications: The authors' criteria and the test based on them are suitable for large countries, with significant geo-climatic variety and ethnic diversity, but may be inapplicable in small countries with less diversity. It is questionable if the latter countries contain enough cultural variation to justify a cross-cultural analysis of their sub-national regions. Practical implications: The authors' criteria can be used in future research in any large country to decide if its regions justify a cross-cultural analysis in the field of management and business or any other field. Social implications: Cultural differences within a country are important as they may inform political and management decisions. Yet, to demonstrate that those differences are real, and not imaginary, one needs a methodology like the authors'. Originality/value: The study contributes to the discussion of the meaningfulness of in-country regions as cultural units for cross-cultural analysis in international business by focusing on the RF. In conclusion, the extent has been shown to which the regional cultural policy corresponds to the general political concepts of the European Union in the field of culture. In particular, the attitude of the authorities to the cultural potential of the region is of a dual nature: 1) attention is focused on the ideology of preserving the cultural identity of the territorial community; 2) culture becomes an important resource for the socio-economic well-being of the region.

- Abstract
The adaptive evolution of cultural ecosystems is a distinctive process along the Silk Road in China, involving the transitional interaction of nature and culture. This study aims to provide theoretical recommendations for the management of cultural heritage sites along the Silk Road to assess the values and keep the balance between tourism development and cultural heritage protection. The paper focuses on 22 cultural sites in western China to study the adaptive evolution pattern of cultural landscapes along the Silk Road with landscape changes and the transmission patterns of modern cultural tourism. Based on relevant literature reviews, historical maps, and geomorphological maps, the factors influencing the evolution of the cultural ecosystem are explored. We present both the theoretical and managerial implications: the cultural heritage of the urban areas can vigorously develop the cultural tourism with a high degree of industrialization, suburban areas can boost up traditional tourism product routes. We also assume that the degree of development of cultural tourism depends on the cultural ecosystem service and the environmental status of the cultural landscape. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
