Using elastic plates in combination with counterflow heat exchangers is an innovative aspect of thermal energy storage systems (TES). The incorporation of elastic plates dramatically enhances heat transfer. However, prior studies have yet to thoroughly investigate the effects of exerting force on these elastic plates. The flow and heat transfer in a counterflow plate heat exchanger with elastic parts on the lower and upper plates are numerically investigated in the current study. The study employs fluid–structure interaction (FSI) modeling to account for the elastic behavior of these plates, with external forces applied downward on the upper plate and upward on the lower plate. The analysis focuses on five different heat exchanger configurations, each with elastic plates positioned at varying locations. The results indicate that heat exchangers with elastic plates outperform their rigid counterparts, achieving efficiency improvements ranging from 17% to 140%, with the highest performance observed in configuration B, where the elastic plates are symmetrically placed in the center of the exchanger. Heat transfer rates for this configuration are up to 30% higher than in other designs. Additionally, a tripling of the Reynolds number results in a 47% increase in efficiency for configuration B, while doubling the applied external force increases the heat transfer rate by only 4%. These findings highlight the potential of elastic plate designs to enhance the efficiency of heat exchangers, with promising applications for condensers, evaporators, and boilers. Purpose – The purpose of this study is to compare the thermal performance of two flow configurations in corrugated plate heat exchanger (CPHE): vertical flow configuration (CPHEvert.) and diagonal flow configuration (CPHEdiag.). The study aims to determine the differences between these configurations and evaluate their respective thermal performance based on metrics such as heat transfer rates, pressure drop values and flow distribution. Design/methodology/approach – The study compares the thermal performance of two flow arrangements of CPHE using identical geometrical dimensions and test conditions. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is employed, and a validated numerical model is used for the investigation. The comparison is based on analyzing the rate of heat transfer and pressure drop data between the two flow arrangements. Findings – The findings indicate that the diagonal flow configuration in CPHEs offers improved flow distribution, enhanced heat transfer performance and lower pressure drop compared to the vertical flow configuration. However, the differences in general in the thermal performance of CPHEvert. and CPHEdiag. are found to be minimal. Originality/value – To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study represents the first attempt to investigate the impact of vertical and diagonal flow configurations on the thermal performance of the CPHE.

Based on the differential idea, this article establishes two segmented algorithms which are the linear equations method and iterative method for solving the one-dimensional digital twin of the temperature field and pressure field of plate heat exchanger (PHE). The segmented algorithms are to consider the change of the physical properties of the fluid along the flow direction, which makes the solution of the temperature field and pressure field more accurate than that without segmentation. It can still get other important parameters besides temperature and is easy to converge with a few iterative steps. When the boundary conditions are known, it can accurately solve the heat transfer, wall temperature, convective heat transfer coefficient, temperature field and pressure field of fluid. Under six groups of test conditions, the heat exchange, temperature and pressure calculated by the two algorithms are compared with the commercial software Flownex, when the number of segments is 100, the average maximum error of each segment is not more than −0.39%, −0.97%, and 0.18%, respectively. To balance accuracy and calculation speed, this article also explores the impact of the number of segments on accuracy. It is found that when the number of segments increases to 10, the impact on the calculation accuracy can be ignored. Compared with Flownex, these two algorithms have smaller errors, and the solution speed of solving linear equations method is faster than that of iteration. It provides application value for emerging digital twin technology, data center chilled water system and other projects and industries that need to accurately control the outlet temperature and wall temperature of PHE. The current research analyses the influence of corrugation pitch on channel frictional factor (CFF), channel pressure drops, and total pressure drop in a single pass chevron plate heat exchanger, across Reynolds numbers ranging from 2004 to 5421. Single corrugated chevrons with a chevron angle of 60° are utilized. Corrugation pitch significantly influences fluid flow distribution in the channels, consequently affecting flow maldistribution, and pressure drop in PHEs. Additionally, the enhancement in CFF for decreasing the aspect ratio at the same flow rate is examined. The study reveals a decrease in channel pressure drops in the range of 79.79% to 82.25%, when increasing the corrugation pitch from 12 mm to 30 mm and decreasing the aspect ratio from 56.4 to 31.33. The current analytical results have been confirmed by comparing them with the experimental findings reported in previous studies. Although higher pressure drops can enhance heat transfer by increasing turbulence and improving flow distribution, however they demand more energy for pumping, that can ultimately impact overall system's efficiency. A plate heat exchanger is one of the smallest and most efficient heat exchangers on the market. This experiment aims to assess the performance of methanol-water as a base fluid in a plate heat exchanger that affects the heat transfer performance. For this study, aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticle was used in various ratios (0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 vol. %) in a base fluid (10 vol.% methanol & 90 vol.% water) to prepare a nanofluid. At two different temperatures, such as 55 °C and 60 °C, with varying flow rates (2 to 8 L/min) and varying nanoparticle concentrations (0.25 to 0.75%), thermo physical characteristics and convective heat transfer studies were performed, and the results are presented. The overall inference was that there was a notable enhancement in the hot side, cold side, and overall heat transfer coefficient by the combination of Al2O3 nanoparticle and methanolwater-based fluid. It was noted that utilizing Al2O3/methanol-water nanofluid could significantly reduce the temperature gradient in the heat exchanger and improve its performance. Maximum hot fluid coefficient of 4300 W/m²°C, cold fluid coefficient of 4600 W/m²°C, and overall coefficient of 2200 W/m²°C were noted for 0.75 vol.% nanoparticle concentration and at a flow rate of 8 L/min. This paper presents an analysis of the heat flow in a plate heat exchanger located at a building heat exchange station. The plate heat exchanger is the main source of heat for the building system based on microsubstations in the building apartments. The co-operation of the heat exchange station with the substations in the apartments is also described. Such microstations are intended for both domestic hot water preparation and apartment heating. The method of calculating the product of the heat transfer coefficient k and the heat exchange surface area A is presented. In order to verify the correctness of the measured values of the temperatures of hot and cold water at the heat exchange station inlet and outlet, they were compared to the values calculated using the ε-NTU method. Good agreement was found between the results of the calculations and the measurements. Recommendations were made for the temperature of return water to the heating station. The cost of operating the district heating network could be reduced by increasing the surface area of central heating radiators in apartments, so that the temperature of return water to the heating station could be lowered. This paper concerns an economic and exergetic efficiency analysis of a plate heat exchanger placed in a solar installation with TiO2:SiO2/DI:EG nanofluid. This device separates the primary circuit—with the solar fluid—and the secondary circuit—in which domestic hot water flows (DHW). The solar fluid is TiO2:SiO2 nanofluid with a concentration in the range of 0.5–1.5%vol. and T = 60 °C. Its flow is maintained at a constant level of 3 dm3/min. The heat-receiving medium is domestic water with an initial temperature of 30 °C. This work records a DHW flow of V ˙ D H W , i n = 3–6(12) dm3/min. In order to calculate the exergy efficiency of the system, first, the total exergy destruction, the entropy generation number Ns, and the Bejan number Be are determined. Only for a comparable solar fluid flow, DHW V ˙ n f = V ˙ D H W 3 dm3/min, and concentrations of 0 and 0.5%vol. is there no significant improvement in the exergy efficiency. In other cases, the presence of nanoparticles significantly improves the heat transfer. The TiO2:SiO2/DI:EG nanofluid is even a 13 to 26% more effective working fluid than the traditional solar fluid; at Re = 329, the exergy efficiency is η e x e r g y = 37.29%, with a nanoparticle concentration of 0% and η e x e r g y (1.5%vol.) = 50.56%; with Re = 430, η e x e r g y (0%) = 57.03% and η e x e r g y (1.5%) = 65.9%. • Flow boiling of R134a in a plate heat exchanger with wavy corrugations was studied. • Three major flow patterns were identified with the variation of vapor quality. • The variation of heat transfer coefficient and wall temperature were discussed. • A new piecewise Nu correlation was developed based on flow pattern transition. As a common component in various applications, the two-phase heat transfer of plate heat exchanger has been frequently studied. However, further investigations are still required on the flow pattern, especially for those with new plate structures brought with the emergence of new applications. This study presented an experimental investigation on the flow boiling of R134a in a plate heat exchanger with mini-wavy corrugations designed for thermal management system of electric vehicle (EV). The flow pattern transitions in the test section were captured and discussed, meanwhile the effects of vapor quality and mass flux on the variation of heat transfer coefficient (HTC) were analyzed. Based on the observation, the two-phase flow pattern developed from pulsating film flow, then rough stream flow and finally to thin stream flow with the increase of vapor quality. The flow pattern map was determined with the superficial momentum of the liquid and vapor phase refrigerant, while the empirical correlations were developed based on two-phase Weber number to predict the transitions between the flow patterns. The HTC showed an intermediate increase firstly under low vapor qualities, and rapidly decreased after reaching the peak value at the vapor quality of 0.45–0.6. In addition, the experimental data were compared with the present correlations, and a new Nu correlation was developed considering the transitions of flow patterns, showing an optimal prediction on the experimental data with the mean absolute error of 11.3%. Energy evaluation of the plate heat exchanger is done using Al2O3 mixed hybrid nanofluids as a coolant. The various hybrid nanofluids (AlN–Al2O3, SiC–Al2O3, and MgO–Al2O3) with equal nanoparticle ratio (5:5) and Al2O3 (10:0) of 0.01% total volume concentration and DI water act as a coolant. The impact of different nanoparticle combinations, flow rate, and inlet temperature on the heat transfer rate, pump work, performance index, heat transfer coefficient, and effectiveness is examined. It is observed that the heat transfer rate, convective heat transfer coefficient, effectiveness, and performance index enhance with an increase in the flow rate and with the addition of nanoparticles. The heat transfer rate and heat transfer coefficient improve the maximum for SiC–Al2O3 hybrid nanofluid to 3.8% and 11.7%, respectively. In contrast, pump work enhances up to 0.25% for Al2O3 (10:0) nanofluid. The effectiveness and performance index improve up to 3.9% for SiC (5:5) hybrid nanofluid. Plate heat exchangers are widely used in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) field. Cross-corrugated triangular ducts are commonly employed in plate heat exchangers. Inserting baffles into the cross-corrugated triangular ducts can improve the heat transfer performance of the plate heat exchangers. This study focuses on intricate interdependencies among the flow channel apex angle, the trapezoidal baffle inclination angle, baffle position, and Reynolds number (Re) on heat transfer and pressure drop using response surface methodology (RSM) and computational fluid dynamic (CFD). To identify the factors that maximize the Nusselt number (Nu) and minimize friction factor (f), the RSM is used to design factors, conduct numerical studies, and establish regression equations. The results show that the apex angle, baffle angle, X-direction position, and Re have significantly affected Nu and f. Compared to a non-baffled channel with the same apex angle and Re conditions, the optimized channel enhances heat transfer by 1.54 times and has an almost identical pressure drop. The inclined baffle significantly enhances comprehensive performance at low Re. The synergistic effect of the heat transfer and pressure drop is most optimal when the apex angle of the flow channel is 90°, the trapezoidal baffle inclination angle is 52.5°, and the Re is 1000, with the baffle position at 0.625H in the X-direction. Determination of the geometrical parameters of the heat exchanger has important effects on the thermohydraulic performance of the heat exchanger. In this study, the effects of geometric parameters of a plate heat exchanger on thermohydraulic performance have been extensively investigated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Parametric studies were performed on 8 different corrugated channel geometries with various chevron angles (β) and aspect ratios (2b/λ) for Reynolds numbers ranging from 500 to 3000. An entire fluid channel was numerically studied using the same mass flow rate and the Reynolds number. As results of the study, temperature distribution, pressure gradient, velocity, turbulent kinetic energy distribution, Nusselt number, friction factor, and flow properties were evaluated comparatively for each case. It was determined that the sinusoidal corrugations promote the turbulence intensity and the swirling flow which leads to thermal boundary layer mitigation and enhanced convection heat transfer in response to the increasing of aspect ratio. The results of the study show that the (CFD) model is a reasonable and effective technique for displaying 3D contour plots, streamlines, and determining performance parameters. Plate heat exchangers are realized by means of a heat transfer mechanism, in which heat is naturally transferred from the hot substance to the object with a lower temperature according to the laws of thermodynamics. Two liquids of different temperatures flow on the wall, heat transfer on the wall and convection of the liquid on the wall, thus promoting heat transfer between the two liquids. Under the same flow rate and power consumption conditions, its heat transfer coefficient is three times that of shell and tube heat exchangers, which is a key and efficient new equipment for effectively using effective resources and saving and developing new energy. However the heat supply plate heat exchanger has a tiny circulation surface and is easily obstructed. Regular maintenance and cleaning, troubleshooting, and plate replacement all necessitate frequent heat exchanger disassembly and installation. The requirements and challenges in dismantling and assembling the heat exchanger are very high, and manual disassembly is wasteful, making consistent force difficult to achieve. The current methods of disassembly and assembly are inefficient and incorrect. The intelligent mechanization of disassembly and assembly equipment is realized in this paper by driving, clamping, automatic control, distance measurement, sensing, and other systems. The problems of uneven force, low efficiency, and precision in plate heat exchanger disassembly and assembly are solved. Our power disassembly equipment for high efficiency heat transfer plate heat exchangers not only enhances disassembly efficiency and precision, but it also ensures the safe operation of the plate heat exchanger heating system, and the heat transfer efficiency and heat exchange efficiency are improved. The heating and cooling process is a major industrial challenge. The efforts to improve the design of heat transfer improvement mainly center around expanding the heat transfer area (through the geometry of the heat exchanger) and inducing turbulence to eliminate the boundary layer. A solution to increase the thermal efficiency of the heat exchanger and reduce costs is the use of materials such as nanofluids with ideal thermal and thermophysical properties. Here, to enhance the effectiveness of nanofluids and prevent sedimentation, atomic stabilization was the main focus by combining surfactants with nanofluids at specific weight concentrations and applying ultrasonic vibrations to increase stability. In this paper, the influence of using Graphene oxide (GO)/water and AL2O3/waternanofluids and the GO–AL2O3 /water hybrid nanofluid was investigated at 0.01 %, 0.02 %, 0.03 % wt concentrations. The effect on heat transfer and thermal efficiency of a plate heat exchanger relative to the base fluid (water) was examined. The nanofluids were stabilized in several stages to optimize the thermodynamic properties of the base fluid. The thermal efficiency of the nanofluids (η) reaches to its maximum at the highest weight concentration (0.03 %) with GO nanoparticles at 37 %, AL2O3 at 21 %, and the GO–AL2O3 hybrid at 26 %. GO nanoparticles had the most significant impact on the heat exchanger performance, with an optimized heat exchanger performance of 15.94 %, followed by the hybrid at 11.86 %, and AL2O3 at 7.4 %.

With the continuous improvement of environmental protection requirements，zero emissions technology becomes an important path to achieve the use of sewage resources. A fiber optic product factory in Jiangsu was chosen as object，the process flow and operation of MVR evaporation crystallization technology to treat saline wastewater by MVR evaporation crystallization technology for the treatment of salty wastewater produced was introduced. Furthermore，the economy of the system was analyzed. It is hoped to understand the actual processing effect of the MVR evaporation crystallization technology in zero emissions technology，and provide a reference for the design and operation of zero discharge projects in domestic wastewater. The project was based on the principle of MVR process，using external plate heat exchanger and flash evaporator to form an evaporation crystallization system. The results showed that the actual processing capacity of the evaporation crystallization system was 48 t/d，the system salt rejection rate was 99.23%，the condensate index reached the reuse index in the plant，the recovery rate was 93.47%，and the purity of the waste salt produced by crystallization was 96%. It met the first-class standard of industrial wet salt of Industrial Salt（GB/T 5462—2015），and the cost of water treatment per ton was 65.03 yuan. The evaporation crystallization technology of MVR was applied in the treatment of salt-containing wastewater，which was energy saving and environmental protection，and no pollutants were discharged，achieving the near-zero discharge of industrial wastewater.

In order to optimize the heat transfer characteristics of regenerative evaporative coolers under different climatic conditions and provide reference data for numerical simulation research. The dynamic coupling of heat and humidity parameters of the air flow in the regenerative evaporative cooler is the fundamental factor affecting the efficiency of evaporative heat transfer, and mastering its law can guide the structure optimization of the heat exchanger. In this paper, a simulation model is constructed based on the structure of regenerative evaporative cooler, and the variation of heat and humidity parameters in the airflow passage is studied by numerical simulation method with the application background of representative cities at home and abroad under different climate conditions. It is found that the relative humidity increases rapidly in the wet channel, and the length of 40 cm wet channel can meet the full evaporation demand under most working conditions. The evaporation cooling effect is greatly affected by the inlet air parameters, and the saturation degree of ambient air has a significant influence on the cooling effect. Keeping the latent heat exchange process in the high efficiency evaporation section and the sensible heat exchange process in the high temperature difference section of the channel can effectively improve the heat exchange efficiency of the evaporative cooler and shorten the length of the heat exchanger.

AbstractThe exhaust gas emitted by a stenter machine will lead to energy waste and environmental heat pollution. Therefore, designing an efficient waste heat recovery apparatus for exhaust gas not only protects the environment but also saves production costs. In the article, the heat transfer performance and pressure drop of three types of heat exchangers: flat-plate heat exchanger (PHE), wavy-PHE, and zigzag-PHE were numerically studied in the context of waste heat recovery from the exhaust gas of stenter machines. The heat transfer rate (Q), Nusselt number (Nu), Colburn factor (j), pressure drop, Fanning friction factor (f), and comprehensive performance factor (JF) were investigated while Reynolds numbers ranged from 1000 to 9000. An experimental measurement was devised to validate the accuracy of the numerical simulation. The results of the research indicate that the wavy-PHE exhibits improved heat transfer efficiency and reduced pressure drop, primarily attributed to the substantial generation of secondary flow. Three new correlations for Nusselt number in different PHEs were developed based on commonly existing empirical formulas. The setting machine exhaust gas contains a large number of fiber particles and micro oil droplets, which are adhesive and flammable. This leads to difficulties in waste heat recovery of the exhaust gas. In this article, numerical and experimental studies of a non-uniform plate heat exchanger with dimples/protrusions for waste heat recovery of setting machines are carried out. Based on the three-dimensional fluid-thermal-structural coupling method, the regenerative process between gas and air are investigated numerically with low Reynolds number turbulence model. The effect of the structural parameters (protrusions diameters, protrusions spacing and plate spacing) and operation parameters (air inlet temperature, gas and air flow rate) on the heat transfer performance are discussed. The multi-objective optimization of the plate regenerator is conducted by Box-Behnken Design and Nondominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II to maximize the thermal performance coefficient and minimize entransy dissipation number. It is found that when D1, H1 S1, D2, H2, S2 are 9 mm, 7 mm, 161 mm, 9 mm, 8 mm and 153 mm respectively, the heat exchanger has the best heat transfer performance. Compared with the original model, the heat transfer rate of the optimized heat exchanger is increased by 3.9%, the thermal performance coefficient of the air side and flue gas side is increased by 5.7% and 5.9% respectively, and the entransy dissipation number is reduced by 24.6%. The prototype of a low‐temperature thermal desalination system treating 2500 L day−1 of saline water was designed thermally and geometrically, to be integrated with a vacuum spray flash drum and spray nozzles, a plate heat exchanger‐type condenser, and a thermosyphon solar water heater to produce potable water for a small community. The design bases were the feed flow rate, the feed temperature from 45 to 65 °C, the salinity of 0.035 kg kg−1, and the vacuum drum pressure from 2 to 6 kPa absolute. The estimated yield of potable water based on the simulated droplet dynamics was in the range of 68.91–75.80 %. Plate and frame heat exchangers are widely used nowadays, because their designed corrugations result in reducing the liquid turbulence to the counter current liquid flow and increasing heat transfer efficiency. In this manuscript, the effect of nanofin array coatings on the plates of a micro-channel heat exchanger with cross-flow configuration on overall heat transfer coefficient U-Value was studied. Six copper corrugated plates were installed in a micro-channel plate and frame heat exchanger. Nanofin arrays were synthesized by electrodeposition method. The dendritic copper nanofin array grew on the copper plates from electrolyte solution along with applying an increasing current in a specified time. The morphology of coatings on the plate surface was examined by SEM, and AFM technique. The cold and hot water with a predetermined inlet temperature for both hot and cold side circulated in the microchannel and U-Value was measured thereupon, the measured temperature difference was between 1.9 and 4.8 °C showing an increase of 41–135% in the U-Value compared to the non-coated versions of the plates. Nowadays, heat exchangers find widespread use across various applications in different fields, particularly in the field of heat recovery. This paper provides a detailed explanation of a plate heat exchanger counter-flow model developed in Simulink/Matlab. Water was employed in simulations for both circuits, although the thermal properties of other fluids can be investigated by modifying them. The "Tanks in series" method was used for simulation purposes. The developed model enables users to explore the impact of various parameters on heat exchanger functionality, such as altering the number of plates, the material or thickness of the plates, and the nature of thermal agents (gaseous or liquid). These models play a crucial role not only in simulating and sizing heat exchangers but also in achieving parametric optimization. Parameter variations can be employed to examine the operation of existing equipment under conditions different from their design specifications. The Simulink/Matlab proposed model, featuring a variable number of finite volumes to ensure high accuracy, was compared to the classical design method for plate heat exchangers. The results revealed good accuracy, with relative errors for heat transfer rate remaining below 2.6%. This research also considered the study of the number of finite volumes necessary for achieving accurate results. For the 40 finite volumes model, the relative error for heat transfer rate is less than 10%. Dividing the mesh into 50 finite volumes along the fluid flow direction resulted in relative errors ranging from 1.6% to 1.7%, indicating that a finer mesh was not necessary. To validate the conceived model, experimental data from the literature were compared. The relative errors for heat transfer rate between the Matlab/Simulink model's results and experimental data ranged from 1.58% to 11.92%, demonstrating a strong agreement between the conceived model and the experimental values. The energetic worldwide emergency demands a significant drop in fossil energy to renewable energies as part of the sustainable solutions for global energy consumption. MAX phase materials, such as Cr 2 AlC, are potential candidates for heat exchanger applications due to their excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, good thermal shock response and relatively high thermal conductivity. This study uses laser surface texturing (LST) technology to design plate heat exchanger patterns on the Cr 2 AlC MAX phase. Furthermore, performing numerical simulations on textured plate models under molten salt conduction and convection conditions, accessing temperature gradient and heat transfer behaviour were conducted on Cr 2 AlC, as well as on 316 L stainless steel and alumina for comparison. As a result, combined microtextures with a corrugated surface and spaced V-shape channels were obtained using LST in a single step. The parametric study indicated that the optimal channels (groves) were found for 25 W in air and 20 s laser conditions, with approximately 145 µm width and 340 µm depth. Furthermore, the numerical simulation showed that ceramics materials present better heat transfer conditions than 316 L stainless steel, where Cr 2 AlC and alumina only differ in 1.9% heat flux. The average difference between hot and cold heat carrier temperatures, the amount of transferred heat, and the hydraulic resistance for a patented plate heat exchanger having plates with drop-shaped relief and for a heat exchanger having typical corrugated plates were calculated using a computational hydrodynamic module built into the software for 3‑D modeling. In this study, a new design has been developed to increase the thermal performance of a plate heat exchanger. In the developed design, springs are placed on the heat exchanger plates at an angle of 45°. In this study, which aims to improve heat transfer by increasing turbulence, nanoparticles were also used to increase the heat transfer coefficient of the heat transfer fluid. The nanoparticles used are Al2O3 and CuO in three different densities. The performance factor of the system was calculated experimentally with these fluids entering the heat exchanger at six different speeds. The highest performance factor obtained was 1.33, and it was obtained by using 1% mass ratio Al2O3 nanoparticles. The highest value for CuO, the other nanoparticle used, was determined as 1.27. In this article, the flow and heat transfer of liquid lithium and helium in a traditional corrugated plate and an embossed plate is numerically investigated, and on the basis of obtaining the temperature and velocity field distributions, the flow and heat transfer characteristics under different inlet parameters of helium are compared and analyzed. It is found that under the same working condition, the heat transfer performance of the corrugated plate on the helium side is higher than that of the embossed plate, while the flow performance is worse. In the range of the helium inlet temperature between 323 K and 448 K, the comprehensive performance of the embossed plate is superior to that of the corrugated plate, with Nu·f(–1/3) 10.74% higher than the corrugated plate. Also, at a relatively lower helium inlet velocity ranging from 0.8 m/s to 1.3 m/s, the embossed plate outperforms the corrugated plate by 8.83% in terms of comprehensive performance; whereas for the higher inlet velocity from 1.3 m/s to 1.8 m/s, the corrugated plate shows a better comprehensive performance, with Nu·f(–1/3) 6.51% higher than the embossed plate. In this study, the performance of a plate heat exchanger is investigated numerically using tungsten carbide (WC) nanoparticles with water. By employing novel nanoparticle materials (WC) instead of traditional fluids in a plate heat exchanger, it is required to enhance heat transfer. The effect of the mass concentration of nanofluid on the hot side on various parameters such as Nusselt number, friction factor, exergy efficiency temperature, velocity, and pressure distribution is analyzed with Reynolds number range from 3240 to 8840. The obtained results are validated with the previous experimental findings. The results show that increasing the Reynolds number and nanofluid mass concentration can enhance the Nusselt number. WC-water nanofluid with 0.4 mass% achieved the maximum Nusselt number ratio with the range of 166–191%. The friction factor decreased by increasing the Reynolds number where the lowest friction factor with values ranging from 0.17 to 0.33 is achieved by 0.4 mass% nanofluids concentration. The maximum exergy efficiency ranging from 49.5 to 64.5 is achieved by WC-water nanofluid with 0.4 mass%. The streamlines and contours of the temperature, velocity, and pressure distribution provide credible interpretations for the movements of WC-water nanofluids and a noticed improvement in heat transfer.
