This present retrospective of material well-being and quality of life in the last decade, completed through the study of the available knowledge, highlights the importance of increasing material well-being, an important and multidimensional factor in the evolution of humanity and economic development. This analysis, based on the current study of knowledge in order to research and develop the present article regarding the retrospective of the material well-being of the last decade, brought to light other theoretical works carried out by researchers devoted to the study of material well-being and the increase of the quality of life. This work aims to develop a concept about the evolution, development and interpretation of the well-being of the individual and society. Therefore, the evaluation of the indicators identified in this study of knowledge went from the oldest interpretations of subjective fertility to the latest of today.

Exploring the impact of individual capabilities on ecosystem services and farmers' well-being is conducive to discovering the complex relationship between ESs and human well-being, and has clear practical value for the sustainable management and improvement of farmers' well-being in ecologically fragile areas in China. An importance–accessibility index of ESs was constructed and the objective well-being and subjective well-being of farmers were assessed. Subsequently, the relationship among capabilities, ESs, and well-being was elucidated based on a structural equation model. The results showed that fruits, pest control, fuelwood, water conservation, and wild food were the ES types that contributed most to farmers' well-being. There were some similarities and differences between the dimensions of objective and subjective well-being. For example, farmers with adequate leisure time reported higher leisure satisfaction and farmers with relatively adequate income levels reported the lowest income satisfaction. The direct effect of capabilities on ESs and objective well-being was significant, and the direct effect of capabilities on their subjective well-being was not significant. Their capabilities had a significant indirect impact on their objective well-being by influencing ESs and did not have a significant indirect impact on their subjective well-being by influencing ESs; their capabilities had a significant indirect impact on their subjective well-being by influencing the ESs and objective well-being. Physical health, mental health, and agricultural skills were the key types of capabilities that influenced the farmers' access to ESs and well-being. ObjectivesTo better understand the outcome benefits of community health services for the aged (CHSA) and provide bottom-up identity for development, this study examined the impact of using CHSA on well-being of older adults from both objective and subjective dimensions.MethodsData from 1,411 people aged 60+ in Shaanxi, China was used in this study. The OLS estimate was used to analyze the impact of using CHSA on well-being of older adults. Then, the instrumental variable estimate was further hired to examine associations among variables to address the potential endogeneity concerns. The heterogeneity among disabled and non-disabled group was also estimated.ResultsFor objective well-being, the mental health (β = 0.44) and financial well-being (β = 0.59) of older people using CHSA were significantly higher than those not using any service. The impact on objective well-being were more significant in non-disabled group. For subjective well-being, life meaning (β = 0.54) and security (β = 0.72) were positively associated with CHSA utilization, while independence index (β = −0.33) was negatively related with CHSA utilization. The subjective well-being of disabled group using services increased more than non-disabled group.ConclusionFindings underscore the positive, albeit group-selective, role of CHSA in improving well-being of older people in China and imply the necessity of high-quality development of CHSA and the targeted differentiation strategy.

Namibia has adopted several policies, pieces of legislation and programmes aimed at improving the well-being of children. However, the Namibian National Policy on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) of 2004 no longer adequately reflects the contemporary problems faced by vulnerable children. Policy makers require a comprehensive and integrated set of indicators to inform policy revision to make informed choices. This article reviewed national and international child protection reports, evaluation studies and indices to identify contemporary indicators for tracking child well-being in Namibia. It found that while the available indicators reflect objective well-being measures, there is a gap in tracking the subjective experiences of children, child safety and the promotion of children's rights. The article offers an alternative integrated indicator framework that captures multiple dimensions of child well-being. This study aims to examine the relationship between public financial management and indicators of well-being among 29 Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries using a balanced panel dataset over the period between 2005 and 2019. This study used a matrix of seven proxy measures of public financial management, which works as an integrated financial system to improve the objective quality of well-being measured by employment, education level, productivity, and wages. Using the generalised method of moments, the estimator's results, indicate that higher government revenues, expenses (% of GDP) lead to lower well-being while the higher net lending /net borrowing, cost of business start-up procedures, and adjusted gross savings (% of GNI) lead to increase well-being measured by spending on education. The higher government revenues, regulatory quality, government effectiveness, and higher net lending /net borrowing lead to improved well-being, while the higher cost of business start-up procedures (% of GNI per capita) leads to lower well-being measured by wages. The higher government revenues, government effectiveness, and higher net lending/net borrowing lead to increased well-being. In contrast, the higher expense (% of GDP) leads to lower well-being measured by productivity labor. The higher government revenues, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, net lending /net borrowing and adjusted gross savings lead to lower well-being, while the higher cost of business start-up procedures leads to increased well-being measured by employment rates. The OECD countries should prepare fiscal policies to ensure the sustainability of public finances in the long run and identify emergency response mechanisms to overcome the challenges of improving the objective quality of well-being. The relevance of the work is caused by the fundamental importance of social well-being in the development and prosperity of society. The article analyzes the phenomenon of social well-being in modern society in the context of social philosophy. The purpose: based on the analysis of scientific literature to substantiate the thesis that social well-being is a phenomenon of modern society, most fully manifested in such forms of its existence as objective and subjective well-being. Objective characteristics of well-being act as measurable indicators – economic, environmental and social quantifiers (such as the level of education, employment, etc.), the level of security, political stability, health, etc. Subjective characteristics include a sense of happiness, life satisfaction, sense of personal growth and development, psychological well-being, sense of being a part of society, interpersonal relationships (relationships with family, friends, in the workforce, etc.), etc. Research methods: explication and comparative analysis methods, historical, socio-philosophical. The results. It was analyzed that the phenomenon of social well-being is the subject of research in a number of humanities: history, sociology, philosophy, psychology. It is proved that social well-being is an important dominant of modern society, acting as a resource for the formation of new human relationships to their leisure, happiness, success. Social well-being is a dialectical unity of objective and subjective well-being. Conclusions. The author has implemented a scientific project on the relationship between social well-being and leisure. The classification of the main approaches to the analysis of social well-being is presented. The paper showns dialectical relation of subjective and objective social well-being, which takes special forms of interaction with such phenomena of society as happiness, leisure, prosperity.

The adoption of information and communication technology (ICT), such as the Internet, smartphones, and tablets, has increased markedly. The present study examines how this adoption affects objective and subjective well-being inequality, using the 2018 China Family Panel Studies data. We employ the Gini coefficient to measure objective well-being inequality indicators (income inequality and consumption inequality) and the variance to measure subjective well-being inequality indicators (happiness inequality and life-satisfaction inequality). The two-stage residual inclusion approach is utilized to address the endogeneity of ICT adoption. The results show that ICT adoption significantly lowers income and consumption inequality. The findings for subjective well-being are mixed: ICT adoption reduces happiness inequality, whereas it does not influence life-satisfaction inequality. Furthermore, income inequality does not influence subjective well-being; however, consumption inequality is positively associated with happiness inequality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the growing literature on subjective well-being (SWB), few studies have focused on developing countries. Applying robust OLS and ordered probit models to the India Human Development Survey panel data in 2005 and 2012, we empirically assess SWB changes in 2005–2012, based on a self-reported measure of changes in economic well-being, as a function of household and state covariates in 2005. This is in sharp contrast with earlier studies' focus on the levels of SWB. Another point of departure of our study is to compare the covariates of SWB changes with those of objective well-being (OWB) changes, proxied by the relative growth in real per capita household consumption expenditure between 2005 and 2012, to identify specific micro-level correlates of SWB changes. Households with an older and educated head in a larger household, located in urban areas or affluent states in 2005 tend to experience improvement in both SWB and OWB between 2005 and 2012. In contrast, households with a female household head, with more male members in the labour market, with regular access to mass media, without members suffering from non-communicable diseases or disabilities are more likely to be better off subjectively without experiencing the corresponding improvement in OWB. Purpose – the well-being of individuals plays a vital role in fostering sustainable economic development. The differentiation between subjective and objective well-being in selected EU and selected non-EU countries, with a particular focus on financial literacy, as individuals’ assessments of their own well-being can significantly differ from objective economic indicators, emphasizing the subjective nature of well-being. The research objective is to investigate how savings and personal budgeting indicators affect both objective and subjective well-being and to examine the role of these indicators in promoting financial literacy. Research methodology – the research investigates the impact of savings and personal budgeting indicators on financial literacy (FLI), financial well-being (FWB), and gross domestic product at purchasing power parity per capita (GDP PPP per capita). We applied Pearson’s pairwise correlation between nine indicators of personal budgeting and savings and the method of principal components to identify the reasonable factors according to their statistical significance based on data from 22 countries included in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development/International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE) survey data, Global Findex Database. The application of the Varimax procedure made it possible to identify factor groups of indicators. Findings – we identify two factors for the whole sample and a sample of selected EU-countries; for non-EU-countries were identified three factors. Our research reveals that subjective FWB across all countries and non-EU countries is under the significant influence of factor group 1 mainly represented by savings indicators, with no significance for EU countries. FLI also significantly depends on factor group 1 for the entire sample of countries and across EU and non-EU countries. GDP PPP per capita is under the significant influence of all factors both in the sample of countries and across EU and non-EU countries. Research limitations – FLI databases started to be gathered relatively recently and are not regularly updated. This can cause a situation when data for different countries are provided with time gaps. Moreover, due to the high cost involved, not all countries conduct such research, which hinders the creation of large datasets for more accurate country comparisons. Practical implications – the results of this study may have interest for policymakers since they focus on improvement of the financial literacy and FWB of individuals, that results in a higher level of financial stability. Originality/Value – this research is to address existing gaps in understanding of the interplay between subjective and objective FWB. Also, it proposes a novel approach that views savings as a factor that enhances financial literacy, in contrast to the conventional approach that considers savings as a consequence of improved FWB.

Child well-being is regarded as an important part of early childhood education but little is known about the meaning of well-being and how it is operationalised in a curriculum context. The paper examines how practitioners in Wales assess the well-being of 3- to 7-year-olds. The case study involves two schools and the paper discusses findings from six focus groups and fourteen interviews. Practitioners are uncertain about how to assess child well-being and therefore draw upon what they do in other subject areas and use criterion-referenced assessment. Practitioners also report various difficulties in assessing well-being which suggests that placing well-being in curriculum policy is problematic. Findings indicate that well-being is understood as an abstract concept where practitioners attempt to transform it into a concrete form in order to assess it. Questions linking to rationale, concept, enactment and assessment need to be discussed when considering well-being as a subject area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Considering the failure of the objective approach in measuring youth well-being and the discourse turn of social policy towards subjective well-being, the present article, after conceptualizing subjective well-being, evaluates its situation among Iranian youth. Method: The present article is a quantitative secondary analysis of the data of the "National Survey of the Social, Cultural and Moral Status of Iranian Society" (2016) among young people aged 18 to 29 living throughout the country. Findings: Firstly, the subjective welfare of young people in many components is unfavorable. Second, the subjective welfare of young people is more unfavorable than other age groups; compared to others (30-49 years, 50 years and older), Iranian youth value higher preference, such as wealth, position, and fame; they have less belief in the existence of judicial and professional justice; they also have a more negative assessment of the welfare of society; they Evaluate the life situation in the past as more negative and the future situation as more positive; they feel less freedom, happiness, security, and national belonging; they have less belief in the prevalence of legalism and the realization of citizenship in society; finallu, they agree with a fundamental change in the current state of society. Discussion: The findings indicate that although the low level of subjective welfare among young people is a pervasive pattern with other age groups, but its lower level compared to others indicates an unfavorable state of subjective welfare in this group.

Human well-being is one of the main goals of sustainable development (SDG 3 and SDG 11). Urban green zones are always presented in all global well-being rankings of the cities. The development of new forms of urban green zones is stimulated by such challenges as urban health and the deficit of urban territory. Sensory gardens are one of the innovative forms of urban green zones. They implement intensive and concentrative interaction of citizens with nature, positively influencing objective and subjective human well-being. In the first part of the research, we analyzed the history of the evolution of the concept of a sensory garden from its mono-sensory to multi-sensory form using the bibliographic analysis. The results of the analyses of scientific publications were confirmed by the results of a survey presented in the second part of the research. The survey was conducted in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, and Yekaterinburg, where 215 citizens spoke about the sensory garden. The research results confirm that the sensory gardens are a prospective form of urban green zones for citizens, and they are interested in the development of its multisensory concept. According to survey results, the zones of smells and colors in the sensory garden were the most attractive for the respondents. As an important driving force for economic development and social progress, women have become an important subject of well-being research. Human well-being is the state of physical and mental health as well as material affluence and includes a variety of factors, such as wealth, education, health, safety, amenities, way of life, and happiness. Based on the established research framework of the Women's Development Index (WDI) in Northwest China, this paper first measured the objective well-being level of women in Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Xinjiang from 2003 to 2020 under the influence of ecological factors. In addition, spatial disaggregation and comparative analyses of the spatial imbalance of women's well-being in Northwest China were carried out using the Theil index and Dagum Gini coefficient. The results show that (1) the WDI in ecologically vulnerable areas in Northwest China increased from 0.525 in 2003 to 0.690 in 2020, indicating an overall increase in well-being. (2) The WDI in the five provinces gradually increased with fluctuations. Among them, Shaanxi always remained in first place in terms of the WDI. (3) From 2003 to 2020, the spatial imbalance of women's well-being as measured according to the WDI in Northwest China first increased and then decreased. However, the gap in women's well-being in Northwest China was smaller than the economic gap. (4) From 2003 to 2020, the well-being gap measured by the WDI among the 10 groups of provinces in Northwest China gradually decreased, and the development gap between the provinces and Shaanxi was the largest. Introduction: Corruption, as a deterrent to equitable development, is recognized as a contentious issue in the field of institutional quality and political economy. The literature on the impact of corruption on economic growth often addresses the issue that corruption has had a negative impact on economic growth and development. But some economists believe that corruption has had a positive effect on economic growth. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of corruption on human development in the long and short term for developing Islamic countries during the period of 2000 to 2017. Method: The method of this study is the use of panel statistical data based on the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) model. The corruption index used in this study is the corruption control index introduced by the World Bank. The control variables in this study include trade openness and economic growth. Finding: The results showed that in the long run, the corruption reduction index has improved the human development index. But in the short run, this index has had a positive effect on the human development index in the selected countries. Discussion: The negative impact of corruption on human development shows that corruption hinders the improvement of human development indicators, which are education, health, and economic growth in the long run. Therefore, policymakers must adopt the necessary policies to reduce corruption in order to improve the status of the human development index and therefore human welfare. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates the possible causal relationship between buffer stock operations in Ghanaian agriculture and the well-being of smallholder farmers in a developing world setting. We analyze the differences in the objective and subjective well-being of smallholder farmers who do or do not participate in a buffer stock price stabilization policy initiative, using self-reported assessments of 507 farmers. We adopt a two-stage least square instrumental variable estimation to account for possible endogeneity. Our results provide evidence that participation in buffer stock operations improves the objective and subjective well-being of smallholder farmers by 20% and 15%, respectively. Also, with estimated coefficient of 1.033, we find a significant and robust relationship between objective well-being and subjective well-being among smallholder farmers. This relationship implies that improving objective well-being enhances the subjective well-being of the farmers. We also find that the activities of intermediaries decrease both the objective and subjective well-being of farmers. This study demonstrates that economic, social, and environmental aspects of agricultural life could constitute priorities for public policy in improving well-being, given their strong correlation with the well-being of farmers. Based on the results of this study, we provide a better understanding, which may aid policy-makers, that public buffer stockholding operations policy is a viable tool for improving the well-being of smallholder farmers in a developing country. The main purpose is to check the impact of social capital on households' objective well-being in the context of a developing country like Pakistan. The primary data is collected from 250 households of eight towns in district Faisalabad, the third-largest most populous city of Pakistan. Ordered probit models are used for analysis. The results show that objective well-being is positively and significantly affected by social capital except for social participation and neighborhood cohesion. For subjective well-being, life satisfaction and well-being are positively and significantly associated with all dimensions of social capital except the perception of trust and safety, and education. In the case of self-perceived health, civic participation, voting behavior, and collecting actions (CVC), reciprocity and social support are insignificant. Our results may help in devising social policies related to improvement in life quality and well-being of people. It gives insight into the role of social capital for the reduction of poverty, ameliorating individuals' health status and the well-being of the people. It is suggested that society's well-being may be achieved with higher social capital. Understanding stakeholders' perception about local ecosystem services (ES) and its nexus with their objective and subjective well-being is essential for designing efficient ecosystem management and policy interventions to enhance local residents' overall welfare. Despite the widespread agreement upon the linkages between ES and human well-being (HWB), less studies have empirically tested their relationship from a disaggregated perspective to reveal the explicit contribution of each type of ES and the constituent of HWB, and the spatial heterogeneity in the ES-HWB relationship at the micro level remains insufficiently explored. Furthermore, the impact and mechanisms through which perceived ES influence the subjective well-being of rural residents, mediated by their objective well-being, remain inadequately elucidated. To address the knowledge gaps, we conduct an empirical study using 522 household samples collected in a mountainous area in China and employing bivariate spatial autocorrelation analysis and a partial least squares-structural equation model. The results show that: (1) Geographic location has a positive impact on local residents' perception of provisioning (β = 0.546, p < 0.01) and regulating (β = 0.383, p < 0.01) services. However, their dependency on natural resources has a negative impact (β = −0.460, p < 0.01) on their perception of cultural services. (2) Perceived provisioning service has both positive direct (β = 0.111, p < 0.01) and indirect effects on the subjective well-being of rural residents. On the other hand, regulating service and cultural service primarily exert indirect effects on residents' subjective well-being, mediated by security (β = 0.020, p < 0.05) and health (β = 0.018, p < 0.05), respectively. (3) Both respondents' personal attributes (β = 0.124, p < 0.01) and their evaluation on social governance in their village (β = 0.245, p < 0.01) have significant positive effects on their subjective well-being. The results of a comprehensive sociological diagnostic analysis of the current state and dynamics of postreform Russian society and the social consequences of post-Soviet transformations, which began almost 30 years ago, are presented. The empirical basis of this paper is the data of numerous nationwide sociological studies, carried out by the Institute of Sociology, Federal Center of Theoretical and Applied Sociology, Russian Academy of Sciences, at crucial stages of societal reform, including the results of the nine waves of the all-Russia monitoring project of the Russian Science Foundation, The Dynamics of the Social Transformation of Modern Russia in the Socioeconomic, Political, Sociocultural, and Ethnoreligious Contexts (2014‒2018), and their comparative analysis. The social structure of modern Russian society is considered from the viewpoint of the stratification of respondents by income, the model of which divides the country's population into three basic groups. The largest of them is the median one, demonstrating the average standard of living in today's Russia. As a challenge to state socioeconomic policy, the presence of a significant stratum of low-income people is recorded, including the vulnerable and lower strata of the median population group. The dynamics of the mass ideas of Russians about the causes of poverty and wealth in postreform Russian society is analyzed. The assessment of the level and quality of life of various population groups is provided considering the indicators of objective and subjective well-being/ill-being, based on Russians' perception of current social reality. The conclusion is reached that the social results and consequences of the almost three decades of post-Soviet transformations have proved the inadequacy of the model of market reforms borrowed from the arsenal of Western theoretical thought, which is manifested, in particular, in the utmost understatement of the role of state participation in solving key socioeconomic and sociocultural problems. Hence, it is necessary to search for the answer to the question of how to improve the quality of state participation in society as a whole and in the economy in particular. It is proved that the determining factor of the inverse effect on the functioning and development of the economy is social relations; this supports the use of noneconomic, macrosocial indicators in the management process, which characterize the social condition of society in a specific historical period of its functioning and development. Background. Neuropsychology is a science with its own specific concepts, terms, and methods of analysis of disturbances in psychological development. One of the essential concepts of neuropsychological methodology, according to A.R. Luria, is that of a neuropsychological syndrome, which takes into account both the functional organization of the brain and the behavioral system. However, this concept isn’t mentioned in the majority of his publications, and thus is not well known by neuropsychologists. There is no clear understanding of this concept within the works of modern neuropsychologists. This omission has a strong influence on the way analysis and interpretation of developmental difficulties is carried out today. Objective. The objective of this study is to present an example of the successful application of qualitative syndromic analysis to the case of a Mexican preschool child with developmental problems and learning disabilities. Design. The clinical analysis was applied to the case of a 6 year old girl with learning disabilities, whose difficulties had been attributed primarily to a low level of general brain activation. Results. The authors assert that the advantages of A.R. Luria’s syndromic approach to clinical cases of difficulties in development and learning disabilities, are that it opens up the potential for finding the general causes on different levels: neuronal maturation, brain mechanisms, activity and personality. Conclusion. The authors conclude that the topic of syndromic analysis in child neuropsychology requires further scientific discussion. The necessity for revising levels of analysis of clinical cases should be taken in account.

The true reason for migration is to seek for a better life. People who choose to migrate are motivated by economic intentions and the pursuit of well-being. Many research studies investigate the impact of migration focus on migrant workers only, not include the whole of migrants. This study aims to analyze whether migration has an impact on well-being in Indonesia, using both objective and subjective measurements. The sample unit of study is a person who was 22 years old or over in 2014, using longitudinal data of the Indonesian Family Life Survey. Objective well-being is measured by real per capita expenditures that reflect the differences in purchasing power in 2007 and 2014, while the subjective wellbeing is a self-rated assessment index of life satisfaction. The analytical method used is the logistics of panel data. The results show that migration significantly and positively affects well-being in Indonesia. It can be concluded that subjectively, migrants tend to have better well-being, and objectively, their purchasing power tends to be higher than that of non-migrants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work directs its interest towards the subject of measuring and evaluating the "quality of life" of people in Italy. Despite being a field of classical reflection in the social sciences, a significant recovery of interest was recorded on the subject as the recent economic crisis unfolded its pejorative effects on the preexisting standards of living for large sections of the population. More precisely, the contribution is framed in the context of the debate on the procedures and tools of analysis and study of "subjective well-being", taking into consideration the main scientific observations, the methodologies and some recent applications of particular interest for our country. Therefore, after some brief historical considerations that help to frame the evolution of the concept of quality of life and the current situation, the essay will focus on the careful exposition of the technical system and the main results of a recent experimental study on "subjective well-being"conducted within Istat. Does a victim have tointendto resist oppression in order to discharge her obligation to do so, or is it sufficient to resist oppressionintentionallyin the course of pursuing other plans and projects of importance to her? I argue that resisting intentionally can be sufficient: given the ways that oppression interferes with the lives of victims, trying to counteract that interference by living the life you want is genuine resistance. Requiring that victims have justice-oriented or agency-preserving reasons before their actions count as resistance will distort or miss a wide range of everyday responses to oppressive burdens. Summary The success of conservation interventions often depends on the multifaceted and sometimes competing interests and motivations that lead local people to sustainably manage natural resources in the first place. Yet despite an extensive literature exploring the effects of conservation on human livelihoods, there is a lack of robust evidence about which type of conservation intervention works, for whom, and how. This is partly because the social impacts of conservation interventions often affect multiple aspects of human well-being, with changes taking place over long periods during which unintended feedbacks can occur. This paper assesses the medium-term impacts of Protected Areas (PAs) and of three Payment for Environmental Services (PES) projects on three socio-economic indicators across 16 villages in Northern Cambodia. We present a multi-period evaluation including three panel surveys over six years from villages inside and outside PAs to clarify the mechanisms through which social effects of conservation take place and how this translates into the development pathways adopted by households. While livelihood improvements were recorded across all villages, we found that PAs slightly reduce households’ socio-economic status, though does not impede their development. PAs also protect traditional livelihoods. Participants in one of the three PES projects recorded higher economic status and agricultural productivity than non-participants, suggesting that there can be important social co-benefits to conservation interventions when programs are well-designed to respond to local contexts. This study aimed to analyze the influence of family characteristics, quality of marriage, and family well-being toward the quality of parental environment among early marriage families. Research is done in two villages in Ciampea District, Bogor Regency, West Java Province. Samples consist of 70 families selected purposively with consideration of husband and wife married at a young age and have children aged 0-6 years old. Data were collected through interviews and observations and analyzed with descriptive statistics and multiple linear regressions. The analysis found that majority family had marriage quality in the medium category. Meanwhile, a majority of the family were categorized as prosperous family based on objective well-being indicator and had subjective family well-being in the medium category. This research also found that the majority of quality of parental environmental for children aged 0-36 months was categorized as low environment and children aged 37-72 months in the medium category. Marriage age, the marriageable age of wife, marriage quality, and subjective well-being significant and positive influenced toward the quality of parenting environment.

Well-being has always been a topical concept, and various methodologies have been developed for its evaluation emphasising objective and/or subjective features of the concept of well-being. The objective features of well-being have been studied by economists because the measuring of objective well-being would provide wide opportunities, e.g. to compare different administrative territories, to assess the status of well-being before and after certain activities. Although nowadays municipalities are increasing in importance as regards ensuring wellbeing to their citizens, traditionally well-being is being evaluated at the national level. The aim of this article is to develop and test research methodology for the measurement of objective well-being at the local level. The methodology used: expert interviews, standardisation of empirical statistical data, analysis and comparisons of empirical statistical data. The main results and findings of the article: an objective well-being index for municipalities has been constructed and tested taking into account various features of well-being, which could be widely used in decision making processes. Number of female-headed families tended to increase in Indonesia. The new family structures with maternal functions simultaneously as head of the family led to various adjustments, especially to maintain the family welfare. This research was aimed to analyze social capital, economic coping strategy, and objective well-being of female-headed families. This research held in Bogor District and used cross sectional design. This research involved 53 female-headed families who have been became single-parent since last two years. The families were chosen by snowball sampling and the data was obtained by interview using questionnaire. The result showed that more than half of female-headed families had income over the poverty line. Analysis of logistic regression discovered female-headed’s age had significant chance to have positive influence on family objective well-being. Family objective well-being was influenced by social capital variable particularly in dimension of trust and social network. This research estimated that decreasing of cutting back expenses strategy will give higher chance to identify family to be more prosperous objectively.

Program of Women’s Movement for Home garden Optimization (GPOP) was one of the government's efforts to encourage families to manage home garden optimally in order to improve the family well-being. This program was conducted since 2011 by Ministry of Agriculture. The aim of this research was to analyze the well-being of GPOP participant’s family and nonparticipant’s family in Depok City, West Java Province; and to analyze the factors that influenced the well-being. This research involved 60 GPOP participants’ family and 60 nonparticipant’s family that chosen by random sampling. Family well-being measured by using objective indicator based on poverty line according to BPS and subjective indicator based on assessment of wive on various aspects of her family well-being. This study found that even families who did not become participants of GPOP had higher achievement of optimization of the home garden than participants. The results showed that most familyies, both participants and nonparticipants, had been prosperous according to the measurement of two indicator, objective and subjectife assessment. However, the level of the family well-being of participants was higher than nonparticipants. Moreover, family’s well-being was affected by the amount of family assets, but it was not influenced by membership of GPOP.

This paper studies the dynamics and determinants of financial well-being in the EU-27 area, by comparatively examining its objective and subjective dimensions, based on Eurostat aggregated data. A common set of socio-economic drivers, including economic growth, has been explained in relation with the objective and subjective well-being, instrumented here by variables in the area of the upward income transitions and economic strain, with a view to finding out whether a common set of governmental policies could effectively target both the objective and subjective dimensions of financial well-being. The main econometric tools used in the paper are the generalized method of moments and the feasible generalized least-squares. The empirical results suggest that, while the impact of some determinants is similar for the objective and subjective financial well-being, the impact of others is divergent, in the sense that they could stimulate one dimension of well-being and hinder another. For instance, the paper finds that the social protection expenditure is more effective than the labour market policy expenditure when targeting the financial subjective well-being and the short upward income transitions, but the labour market policy expenditure becomes more effective when targeting the large upward income transitions. Overall, the empirical results indicate that it is difficult to aim at improving all dimensions of well-being by a common set of governmental policies within the EU-27. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Most conceptions of well-being either ignore suffering or assume an ideal version of human life in which suffering would be eliminated. This trend is especially emblematic of positive psychology. Recent research on well-being indicates a mediating function of meaning in life between suffering and well-being demonstrating that making sense of past experiences is significantly correlated with high presence of meaning in life. Hence, meaning-making serves the role of an active coping mechanism that alleviates suffering. This and related strategies of defining, measuring, and augmenting well-being however overlook a form of suffering that is ineliminable and in fact essential to personal growth. In this paper the insights of the existentialist philosopher Søren Kierkegaard are developed to formulate an integrated conceptualization of well-being that regards "negative" affects as crucial for a rich and complete life. The complexity of the relationship between meaning in life, suffering, and authenticity concerning well-being are discussed. A synthetic perspective on the subjective dimension of the experience of suffering and on the objective nature of human limitations that often cause suffering is discussed in relation to the notions of meaning in life and authenticity. Finally, an integrated conceptualization of well-being is posited. The aim of this study was to establish how different types of welfare states shape the context of the everyday life of older people by influencing their subjective well-being, which in turn might manifest itself in suicide rates. Twenty-two European countries studied were divided into Continental, Nordic, Island, Southern, and post-socialist countries, which were subdivided into Baltic, Slavic, and Central-Eastern groups based on their socio-political and welfare organization. Suicide rates, subjective well-being data, and objective well-being data were used as parameters of different welfare states and obtained from the World Health Organization European Mortality Database, European Social Survey, and Eurostat Database. This study revealed that the suicide rates of older people were the highest in the Baltic countries, while in the Island group, the suicide rate was the lowest. The suicide rate ratios between the age groups 65+ and 0-64 were above 1 (from 1.2 to 2.5), except for the group of the Island countries with a suicide rate ratio of 0.8. Among subjective well-being indicators, relatively high levels of life satisfaction and happiness were revealed in Continental, Nordic, and Island countries. Objective well-being indicators like old age pension, expenditure on old age, and social protection benefits in GDP were the highest in the Continental countries. The expected inverse relationship between subjective well-being indicators and suicide rates among older people was found across the 22 countries. We conclude that welfare states shape the context and exert influence on subjective well-being, and thus may lead to variations in risk of suicide at the individual level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditionally, the nation's well-being is measured by GDP or GNP but it is more than accumulated material wealth, it also encompasses satisfaction with everyday life and prospects for improving living conditions in the future. Nowadays attempts have been made to strengthen the role of local government since they ensure that community needs are met, promote its well-being therefore it is important to evaluate well-being at the local level. The aim of the paper is to develop the system that will help to analyze and objectively evaluate the well-being of the municipalities in Latvia.
