Importance: Epidemiological evidences regarding the association between whole grain intake and the risk of new-onset hypertension are still controversial. Objective: We aimed to investigate the relationship between whole grain intake and new-onset hypertension and examine possible effect modifiers in the general population. Methods: A total of 10,973 participants without hypertension from the China Health and Nutrition Survey were enrolled, with follow-up beginning in 1997 and ending in 2015. Whole grain intake was assessed by 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. Multivariable hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression model after adjusting for potential risk factors. Results: During a median follow-up of 7.0 years, 3,733 participants developed new-onset hypertension. The adjusted HRs (95% CIs) were as follows: for quartile 2 (HR: 0.52; 95% CI: 0.47–0.57), quartile 3 (HR: 0.46; 95% CI: 0.42–0.51), and quartile 4 (HR: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.31–0.38), compared with quartile 1. Different types of whole grain types, including wheat (adjusted HR, 0.35; 95% CI, 0.32–0.39), maize (adjusted HR, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.42–0.59), and millet (adjusted HR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.30–0.48), showed significant associations with a reduced risk of hypertension. The association between whole grain intake and new-onset hypertension was stronger in individuals with older age (P for interaction < 0.001) and higher BMI (P for interaction < 0.001). Conclusion: Higher consumption of whole grains was significantly associated with a lower risk of new-onset hypertension. ABSTRACTObjectives The objective was to utilize a smartwatch sphygmomanometer to predict new-onset hypertension within a short-term follow-up among individuals with high-normal blood pressure (HNBP).Methods This study consisted of 3180 participants in the training set and 1000 participants in the validation set. Participants underwent both ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) using a smartwatch sphygmomanometer. Multivariable Cox regressions were used to analyze cumulative events. A nomogram was constructed to predict new-onset hypertension. Discrimination and calibration were assessed using the C-index and calibration curve, respectively.Results Among the 3180 individuals with HNBP in the training set, 693 (21.8%) developed new-onset hypertension within a 6-month period. The nomogram for predicting new-onset hypertension had a C-index of 0.854 (95% CI, 0.843–0.867). The calibration curve demonstrated good agreement between the nomogram’s predicted probabilities and actual observations for short-term new-onset hypertension. In the validate dataset, during the 6-month follow-up, the nomogram had a good C-index of 0.917 (95% CI, 0.904–0.930) and a good calibration curve. As the score increased, the risk of new-onset hypertension significantly increased, with an HR of 8.415 (95% CI: 5.153–13.744, p = .000) for the middle-score vs. low-score groups and 86.824 (95% CI: 55.071–136.885, p = .000) for the high-score vs. low-score group.Conclusions This study provides evidence for the use of smartwatch sphygmomanometer to monitor blood pressure in individuals at high risk of developing new-onset hypertension in the near future.Trial registration ChiCTR2200057354

To date, few studies have investigated the association between dietary manganese intake and the risk of hypertension, so the prospective relationship of dietary manganese intake and new-onset hypertension remains uncertain. We aimed to investigate the association between dietary manganese intake and the risk of new-onset hypertension in the general Chinese population. This prospective cohort study included 12,177 participants who were free of hypertension at baseline from China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS). Dietary intake was measured by 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. The study outcome was new-onset hypertension, defined as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mm Hg or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mm Hg or diagnosed by a physician or under antihypertensive treatment during the follow-up. During a median follow-up duration of 6.1 years, 4269 (44.9 per 1000 person-years) participants developed new-onset hypertension. Overall, there was a positive association between dietary manganese intake and new-onset hypertension. The adjusted HRs (95%CIs) of new-onset hypertension were 1.00 (reference), 0.97 (0.87, 1.08), 1.24 (1.10, 1.39) and 1.75 (1.52, 2.01) across the quartiles of dietary manganese intake, respectively. Accordingly, a significantly higher risk of new-onset hypertension (HR, 1.38; 95%CI: 1.27, 1.50) was found in participants in quartiles 3–4 of dietary manganese intake (≥6.0 mg/day), compared with those in quartiles 1–2 (<6.0 mg/day). Background: The association between different sedentary behaviors and hypertension risk remains unclear. We aimed to explore the relationship between different domains of sedentary behaviors and new‐onset hypertension, investigate whether genetic susceptibility to hypertension modifies the relationship, and examine the extent to which the relationship is mediated by body mass index (BMI) and grip strength. Methods: 212 714 participants without baseline hypertension in the UK Biobank were enrolled. The three major sedentary behaviors (TV‐watching, nonoccupational computer use, and driving) were measured using touch screen questionnaires. The primary outcome was new‐onset hypertension. Results: During a median follow‐up of 11.9 years, 13 983 participants developed hypertension. There was a linear positive association between TV‐watching time and new‐onset hypertension (p for nonlinearity =0.868). A J‐shaped association was found for nonoccupational computer use time and driving time with new‐onset hypertension, with an inflection point of 0.5 h/day for both (both p for nonlinearity <0.001). Polygenetic risk scores for hypertension (based on 118 related single‐nucleotide polymorphisms) did not significantly modify these associations (all p‐interactions >0.05). Furthermore, the detrimental effects of long‐term sedentary behaviors on hypertension were mediated by BMI by 21%–30%, and the beneficial effects of limited sitting time (within 0.5 h/day) for driving and nonoccupational computer use were mediated by grip strength by 6–25%. Conclusions: There was a positive association for hands‐independence sedentary behavior (TV‐watching), and a J‐shaped association for hands‐dependence sedentary behaviors (nonoccupational computer use and driving) with new‐onset hypertension, regardless of genetic risks of hypertension. Ceramides and other sphingolipids are implicated in vascular dysfunction and inflammation. They have been suggested as potential biomarkers for hypertension. However, their specific association with hypertension prevalence and onset requires further investigation. This study aimed to identify specific ceramide and phosphatidylcholine species associated with hypertension prevalence and onset. The 2002 FINRISK (Finnish non-communicable risk factor survey) study investigated the association between coronary event risk scores (CERT1 and CERT2) and hypertension using prevalent and new-onset hypertension groups, both consisting of 7722 participants, over a span of 10 years. Ceramide and phosphatidylcholine levels were measured using tandem liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Ceramide and phosphatidylcholine ratios, including ceramide (d18:1/18:0), ceramide (d18:1/24:1), phosphatidylcholine (16:0/16:0), and the ratio of ceramide (d18:1/18:0)/(d18:1/16:0), are consistently associated with both prevalence and new-onset hypertension. Ceramide (d18:1/24:0) was also linked to both hypertension measures. Adjusting for covariates, CERT1 and CERT2 showed no-longer-significant associations with hypertension prevalence, but only CERT2 predicted new-onset hypertension. Plasma ceramides and phosphatidylcholines are crucial biomarkers for hypertension, with imbalances potentially contributing to its development. Abstract Background Previous studies showed that the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was a better predictor of adverse cardiovascular events than triglycerides or fasting blood glucose alone. However, few studies have focused on new-onset hypertension. We aimed to explore the association of TyG index with new-onset hypertension in Chinese adults. Methods A total of 4,600 participants who underwent at least 2 rounds of visits from 2009 to 2015 in the China Health and Nutrition Survey were enrolled in this study. Our outcome of interest was new-onset hypertension. Multivariate Cox hazard regression models and restricted cubic spline were performed to explore the relationship between TyG index and new-onset hypertension. Results The mean (standard deviation, SD) age of the study population was 48.1 (13.6) years, and 2058 (44.7%) of the participants were men. The mean (SD) TyG index level was 8.6 (0.7). A total of 1,211 (26.3%) participants developed new-onset hypertension during a median (interquartile range) follow-up duration of 6.0 (2.0–6.1) years. The incidences of new-onset hypertension were 18.1%, 25.3%, 28.5%, and 33.4% by quartiles of TyG index [from quartile 1 (Q1) to Q4], respectively. The Cox model showed that high levels of TyG index were significantly associated with increased risk of new-onset hypertension (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07–1.55, Q2; aHR, 1.24, 95% CI 1.03–1.49, Q3; aHR, 1.50, 95% CI 1.22–1.84, Q4) compared with Q1. Consistently, as a continuous variable, for every 1.0 increase in TyG index, there was a 17% increase in the risk of new-onset hypertension (aHR, 1.17; 95% CI 1.04–1.31). The associations were consistent in various subgroups and sensitivity analysis. The dose–response curve indicated a positive, linear association between TyG index and the risk of new-onset hypertension. Conclusions High TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of new-onset hypertension among Chinese adults. Our findings suggest that maintaining a relatively low level of TyG index might be effective in the primary prevention of hypertension.

Abstract Background The relations of the variety and quantity of different sources of dietary insoluble fibers and hypertension remain uncertain. We aimed to investigate the associations between the variety and quantity of insoluble fibers intake from six major food sources and new-onset hypertension, using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS). Methods Twelve thousand one hundred thirty-one participants without hypertension at baseline from CHNS were included. Dietary intake was measured by three consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. The variety score of insoluble fiber sources was defined as the number of insoluble fiber sources consumed at the appropriate level, accounting for both types and quantities of insoluble fibers. The study outcome was new-onset hypertension, defined as blood pressure ≥ 140/90 mmHg, or physician-diagnosed hypertension or receiving antihypertensive treatments during the follow-up. Results During a median follow-up of 6.1 years, 4252 participants developed hypertension. There were L-shaped associations of dietary insoluble fibers derived from vegetables, beans, tubers, and fruits with new-onset hypertension; a reversed J-shaped association of whole grain-derived insoluble fiber with new-onset hypertension; and no obvious association of refined grain-derived insoluble fiber with new-onset hypertension. Therefore, refined grain was not included in the insoluble fiber variety score calculation. More importantly, a higher insoluble fiber variety score was significantly associated with lower risks of new-onset hypertension (per score increment, hazard ratio, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.45–0.55). Conclusions There was an inverse association between the variety of insoluble fibers with appropriate quantity from different food sources and new-onset hypertension.

However, the association between maternal serum TBA level in the normal range and new-onset hypertension disorders during pregnancy remains unclear. The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between maternal serum TBA level in the normal range and the risk, disease severity and adverse pregnancy outcomes of new-onset hypertension during pregnancy. Method Using the electronic medical records on all pregnant women from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, between 2014 and 2020, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of 2581 singleton pregnant women with maternal serum TBA levels in the normal range. The risk of new-onset hypertension significantly decreased with the increment of dietary zinc intake (per mg/day: hazard ratio (HR) 0.93; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.88–0.98) in participants with zinc intake < 10.9 mg/day, and increased with the increment of zinc intake (per mg/day: HR 1.14; 95% CI 1.11–1.16) in participants with zinc intake ≽ 10.9 mg/day. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that TBA level was independently and significantly associated with preeclampsia and gestational hypertension (odds ratio: 1.37, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.27-1.48, p = 0.001, odds ratio: 1.34, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.24-1.46, p = 0.005, respectively). Moreover, elevated TBA level was positively associated with the risk of severe PE and negatively with mild PE (p < 0.01). In addition, maternal serum TBA levels were negatively related to birth weight (p < 0.001).Conclusions: These results suggest that maternal serum TBA in the normal range also might be a valuable biomarker for disease severity in preeclampsia and gestational hypertension. Additionally, our results also indicate associations of serum total bile acid levels in the normal range with an increased risk of fetal growth restriction and low birth weight among offspring. We aim to examine the prospective association between the intake of dietary tomatoes and the risk of new-onset hypertension and its modifiable factors in general adults. A total of 11,460 adults without hypertension from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) were enrolled, with follow-up beginning in 1997 and ending in 2015. Dietary tomato intake was measured by three consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. The study outcome was new-onset hypertension, defined as systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg or diagnosed by physicians or under anti-hypertensive treatment during the follow-up. Finally, 4015 subjects developed new-onset hypertension during 92,335.5 person-years of follow-up. After multivariate adjustment for dietary and non-dietary risk factors, hazard ratios for increased consumption of dietary tomatoes were 0.42 (95% confidence interval, 0.37–0.47), 0.51 (0.46–0.57), and 0.82 (0.74–0.92) compared with non-consumers. Overall, cubic spline regression suggested a novel J-shaped association between dietary tomato intake and new-onset hypertension, with the lowest risk observed at approximately 10 to 13 g/day (p < 0.001 for curvature). Moreover, the association between dietary tomato intake and risk of new-onset hypertension was stronger in females or individuals who refrained from smoking or drinking (p = 0.024, p = 0.043, and p = 0.044 for interaction, respectively). We aimed to investigate the prospective association between dietary iron intake and new-onset hypertension among Chinese adults. Design: A nationwide cohort study. Setting: Using data from seven rounds of the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) from 1997 to 2015. Participants: A total of 12,245 participants without hypertension at baseline were included in this study. Exposures: Dietary intake was measured by three consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household weighing inventory. Measurements: The study outcome was new-onset hypertension, defined as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg or diagnosed by physician or currently under antihypertensive treatment during the follow-up. Results: During a median follow-up of 6.1 years, 4,304 (35.1%) participants developed hypertension. Overall, there was a U-shaped association between dietary total iron intake and new-onset hypertension (P for nonlinearity <0.001), with the lowest risk observed at 18.2–<22.1 mg/day (quintile 2–3). Similarly, a U-shaped association between dietary nonheme iron intake and new-onset hypertension was found (P for nonlinearity <0.001), with the lowest risk at 17.4–<21.3 mg/day (quintile 2–3). However, the association between dietary heme iron intake and new-onset hypertension followed a L-shape (P for nonlinearity <0.001), and a significantly lower risk of new-onset hypertension was found in participants with quintile 2–5 of dietary heme iron intake (adjusted HR, 0.75; 95% CI: 0.68, 0.82), compared with those in quintile 1 (<0.25 mg/day). Conclusions: The association between dietary iron and new-onset hypertension was nonlinear in Chinese adults, following a U-shape for total or nonheme iron intake, and a L-shape for heme iron intake. The study outcome was new-onset hypertension, which was defined as a systolic blood pressure ≥140 mm Hg or a diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mm Hg or under antihypertensive treatment or diagnosed by physician during the follow-up. Results: A total of 4269 participants occurred new-onset hypertension over a median follow-up of 6.1 years. Overall, there was a U-shaped relation (p for nonlinearity <0.001) of dietary thiamine intake with new-onset hypertension, with an inflection point at 0.93 mg/day. Accordingly, in the threshold effect analysis, there was an inverse association between dietary thiamine intake (per SD increment: HR, 0.62; 95% CI: 0.53, 0.72) and new-onset hypertension in participants with dietary thiamine intake <0.93 mg/day, and a positive association between dietary thiamine intake (per SD increment: HR, 1.38; 95% CI: 1.32, 1.44) and new-onset hypertension in those with dietary thiamine intake ≥0.93 mg/day. Conclusion: The association between dietary thiamine intake and the risk of new-onset hypertension followed a U-shaped relation in the general Chinese population, with an inflection point at 0.93 mg/day of dietary thiamine intake. To investigate the relationship of dietary copper intake with new-onset hypertension among Chinese adults. A total of 12,245 participants who were free of hypertension at baseline from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) were included. Dietary intake was measured by 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. New-onset hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg or diagnosed by a physician or under antihypertensive treatment during the follow-up. During a median follow-up of 6.1 years, 4304 participants developed new-onset hypertension. Overall, the associations between dietary copper intake and new-onset hypertension followed a U-shape (P for nonlinearity <0.001). The risk of new-onset hypertension significantly decreased with the increment of dietary copper intake (per SD increment: HR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.57–0.88) in participants with copper intake <1.57 mg/day, and increased with the increment of dietary copper intake (per SD increment: HR, 1.09; 95% CI: 1.07–1.12) in participants with copper intake ≥1.57 mg/day. There was a U-shaped association between dietary copper intake and new-onset hypertension in general Chinese adults, with an inflection point at about 1.57 mg/day. Subjects with Hhcy were more likely to be male (odds ratio [OR] 3.007, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.781-5.079), have a smoking history (OR 1.052, 95% CI 1.031-1.074), older (OR 1.052, 95% CI 1.031-1.074), have an elevated Body Mass Index BMI (OR 1.160, 95% CI 1.080-1.246) and higher levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) (OR 1.590, 95% CI 1.226-2.063). Regular and adequate physical activity was associated with normal homocysteine levels in both male and female groups (p < 0.05). For males only, having a higher BMI, higher LDL-c or being older significantly (p < 0.05) affected the chances of Hhcy. Whereas for females, lower levels of eGFR could be related to Hhcy (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Our present study reported a high prevalence of Hhcy in the Nanjing population with new-onset hypertension. Associated factors like physical activity, gender, smoking history, age, BMI, and LDL-c were important modifiers of plasma homocysteine concentration. Aims: The relationship between mobile phone use for making or receiving calls and hypertension risk remains uncertain. We aimed to examine the associations of mobile phone use for making or receiving calls and the use frequency with new-onset hypertension in the general population, using data from the UK Biobank., Methods and Results: A total of 212 046 participants without prior hypertension in the UK Biobank were included. Participants who have been using a mobile phone at least once per week to make or receive calls were defined as mobile phone users. The primary outcome was new-onset hypertension. During a median follow-up of 12.0 years, 13 984 participants developed new-onset hypertension. Compared with mobile phone non-users, a significantly higher risk of new-onset hypertension was found in mobile phone users [hazards ratio (HR), 1.07; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-1.12]. Among mobile phone users, compared with those with a weekly usage time of mobile phones for making or receiving calls <5 mins, significantly higher risks of new-onset hypertension were found in participants with a weekly usage time of 30-59 mins (HR, 1.08; 95%CI: 1.01-1.16), 1-3 h (HR, 1.13; 95%CI: 1.06-1.22), 4-6 h (HR, 1.16; 95%CI: 1.04-1.29), and >6 h (HR, 1.25; 95%CI: 1.13-1.39) ( P for trend <0.001). Background: The relation of domestic physical activity with hypertension remains uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the prospective relation of domestic physical activity and new-onset hypertension among Chinese males and females.Methods: A total of 9254 adults who were free of hypertension at baseline were enrolled from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. Data on domestic physical activity were obtained by using self-reported questionnaires, and calculated as metabolic equivalent task (MET)-hours/week. Metabolic equivalent task-hours/week may account for both intensity and time spent on activities. The study outcome was new-onset hypertension, defined as systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg or diagnosed by physician or under antihypertensive treatment during the follow-up.Results: A total of 2892 participants developed hypertension during 81996 person-years of follow-up. Overall, there were reversed J-shaped associations between the domestic physical activity and new-onset hypertension in both males and females (both P values for nonlinearity < .001). Consistently, when domestic physical activity was assessed as categories (<10, 10 -< 20, 20 -< 30, 30 -< 40, 40 -< 50, 50 -< 60, 60 -<70, 70 -< 80, 80 -< 90, 90 -< 100, ≥100 MET-hours/week), compared with those with domestic physical activity < 10 MET-hours/week, the lower and similar risks of new-onset hypertension were found in participants with domestic physical activity 30 -< 90 MET-hours/week in both males and females.Conclusions: Moderate domestic physical activity was associated with a lower risk of new-onset hypertension among both males and females. Previously reported short-term results after live kidney donation show no negative consequences for the donor. The incidence of new-onset morbidity takes years to emerge, making it highly likely that this will be missed during short-term follow-up. Therefore, evidence on long-term outcome is essential. A 10-year follow-up on renal function, hypertension, quality of life ( QOL), fatigue, and survival was performed of a prospective cohort of 100 donors. After a median follow-up time of 10 years, clinical data were available for 97 donors and QOL data for 74 donors. Nine donors died during follow-up of unrelated causes to donation, and one donor was lost to follow-up. There was a significant decrease in kidney function of 12.9 ml/min ( P < 0.001) at follow-up. QOL showed significant clinically relevant decreases of 10-year follow-up scores in SF-36 dimensions of physical function ( P < 0.001), bodily pain ( P = 0.001), and general health ( P < 0.001). MFI-20 scores were significantly higher for general fatigue ( P < 0.001), physical fatigue ( P < 0.001), reduced activity ( P = 0.019), and reduced motivation ( P = 0.030). New-onset hypertension was present in 25.6% of the donors. Donor outcomes are excellent 10 years post-donation. The aim of this study was to determine the predictors of new-onset hypertension when the definition of hypertension is changed from the traditional definition (140/90 mmHg) to a new definition (130/80 mmHg). Using data from the Taiwan Biobank, a total of 17,072 and 21,293 participants in the new and traditional definition groups were analyzed, respectively. During a mean follow-up period of 3.9 years, 3641 and 3002 participants developed hypertension in the new and traditional definition groups, respectively. After multivariable analysis, older age (OR, 1.035; 95% CI, 1.030 to 1.039; p < 0.001), male sex (OR, 1.332; 95% CI, 1.194 to 1.486; p < 0.001), high systolic blood pressure (SBP) (OR, 1.067; 95% CI, 1.062 to 1.073; p < 0.001), high diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (OR, 1.048; 95% CI, 1.040 to 1.056; p < 0.001), high heart rate (OR, 1.007; 95% CI, 1.002 to 1.012; p = 0.004), high body mass index (BMI) (OR, 1.091; 95% CI, 1.077 to 1.106; p < 0.001), high fasting glucose (OR, 1.004; 95% CI, 1.001 to 1.006; p = 0.002), and high triglycerides (OR, 1.001; 95% CI, 1.000 to 1.001; p = 0.004) were significantly associated with new-onset hypertension in the new definition group. In the traditional definition group, the predictors of new-onset hypertension were older age (OR, 1.038; 95% CI, 1.032 to 1.043; p < 0.001), high SBP (OR, 1.078; 95% CI, 1.072 to 1.084; p < 0.001), high DBP (OR, 1.039; 95% CI, 1.031 to 1.046; p < 0.001), high heart rate (OR, 1.005; 95% CI, 1.000 to 1.010; p = 0.032), high BMI (OR, 1.072; 95% CI, 1.058 to 1.087; p < 0.001), high fasting glucose (OR, 1.003; 95% CI, 1.000 to 1.005; p = 0.020), low cholesterol (OR, 0.998; 95% CI, 0.997 to 0.999; p = 0.004), high triglycerides (OR, 1.001; 95% CI, 1.000 to 1.001; p = 0.001), and low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (OR, 0.995; 95% CI, 0.993 to 0.997; p < 0.001). In conclusion, older age, high SBP and DBP, high heart rate, high BMI, high fasting glucose, and high triglycerides were useful predictors of new-onset hypertension in both the new and traditional definition groups. However, male sex was a significant predictor of new-onset hypertension only in the new definition group, and low cholesterol and low eGFR were significant predictors of new-onset hypertension only in the traditional definition group. Hence, changing the diagnostic cut-off value for hypertension may have a significant impact on the association of some clinical and laboratory parameters with new-onset hypertension.

As the population recovers from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a subset of individuals is emerging as post-coronavirus disease (post-COVID) patients who experience multifactorial long-term symptoms several weeks after the initial recovery from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The aim of this systematic review is to present the latest scientific reports that evaluate changes in glucose levels, blood pressure readings and lipid profiles after recovery from COVID-19 to verify the hypothesis that new-onset diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension and dyslipidaemia are a possible sequela of a COVID-19 infection. The open access databases PubMed and Google Scholar were searched. Articles investigating patients with residual clinical signs and biochemical alteration indicating diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidaemia at least a month after recovering from COVID-19 were included. It has been shown that a select number of patients were diagnosed with new-onset diabetes, arterial hypertension and dyslipidaemia after COVID-19 infection. Alterations in glucose levels, blood pressure and lipid profiles months after initial infection shows the importance of considering diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension and dyslipidaemia as part of the multifactorial diagnostic criteria post-COVID to better provide evidence-based clinical care.

The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of glucose abnormalities in a Chinese Han population with untreated new-onset hypertension. Four hundred and ninety-nine new-onset hypertensive patients without diabetes were enrolled in this study. An abnormal glucose metabolism was diagnosed in 57.1 % of the new-onset hypertensive patients without previously diagnosed diabetes. Stratified by age, the prevalence of diabetes and prediabetes were increased with aging. Male sex, advanced age, higher serum triglycerides, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance levels were all significantly associated with the increased risks of pre-diabetes or diabetes in new-onset hypertensive patients when analyzed by the logistic regression analysis. Background: Left atrium enlargement (LAE) can be used as a predictor of future cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension (HTN) and atrial fibrillation (Afib). Typical electrocardiogram (ECG) changes have been reported in patients with LAE. This study developed a deep learning model (DLM)-enabled ECG system to identify patients with LAE. Method: Patients who had ECG records with corresponding echocardiography (ECHO) were included. There were 101,077 ECGs, 20,510 ECGs, 7611 ECGs, and 11,753 ECGs in the development, tuning, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. We evaluated the performance of a DLM-enabled ECG for diagnosing LAE and explored the prognostic value of ECG-LAE for new-onset HTN, new-onset stroke (STK), new-onset mitral regurgitation (MR), and new-onset Afib. Results: The DLM-enabled ECG achieved AUCs of 0.8127/0.8176 for diagnosing mild LAE, 0.8587/0.8688 for diagnosing moderate LAE, and 0.8899/0.8990 for diagnosing severe LAE in the internal/external validation sets. Notably, ECG-LAE had higher prognostic value compared to ECHO-LAE, which had C-indices of 0.711/0.714 compared to 0.695/0.692 for new-onset HTN, 0.676/0.688 compared to 0.663/0.677 for new-onset STK, 0.696/0.695 compared to 0.676/0.673 for new-onset MR, and 0.800/0.806 compared to 0.786/0.760 for new-onset Afib in internal/external validation sets, respectively. Aim: The purpose of the current study was to investigate individualized therapy of tacrolimus (Tac), as well as complications after liver transplantation (LT) with the known genetic determinants and clinical factors., Methods: In this retrospective study, two cohorts (n=170) from the China Liver Transplant Registry (CLTR) database from July 2007 to March 2015 were included., Results: Both donors' CYP3A5 *3 and recipients' CYP3A4 *1G had a correlation with Tac pharmacokinetics at four weeks (all P <0.05), except recipients' CYP3A4 *1G nearly had an association at week 2 ( P =0.055). The model of donors' CYP3A5 *3, recipients' CYP3A4*1G , and total bilirubin (TBL), for the prediction of Tac disposition, was better than donors' CYP3A5 *3 only at week 1, 2, and 3 ( P =0.010, P =0.007, and P =0.010, respectively), but not apparent at week 4 ( P =0.297). Besides, when the P value was greater than or equal to 0.6685 after considering the false-positive rate R=10%, the patients were considered to have a faster metabolism, according to the mentioned model. Interestingly, we found that if more than or equal to two alleles A were present in the combination of donors' CYP3A5 *3 and recipients' CYP3A4 *1G genotype, there was a lower Tac C/D ration at week 1, 2, and 3 ( P <0.001, P =0.001, and P <0.001), except at week 4 ( P =0.082), and the probability of new-onset hypertension was lesser ( P <0.001)., Conclusions: These data provided a potential basis for a comprehensive approach to predicting the Tac dose requirement in individual patients and provided a strategy for the effective prevention, early diagnosis of new-onset hypertension in Chinese LT recipients., Competing Interests: CONFLICTS OF INTEREST The authors declare no competing financial interests.
