This contribution investigates the campaign posters of the right-wing Swiss People's Party (SVP) in four communication domains: in public space, in the mass media, their impact on other political actors and manipulations of the posters. This approach combines social semiotics, discourse analysis, media linguistics, and linguistic landscaping to present a comprehensive account of the posters' usage and design. Relying on social semiotics, we first analyze the posters themselves. We then show how the posters are reproduced in journalistic news media which creates a visual framing of the discussion about migration. This framing effect is also evidenced by the fact that many political actors adapt to the SVP's visual language. Consequently, the discussion about migration increasingly follows the SVP's logic. In a fourth analytical step, we show how the posters become objects of manipulation that turn them into a place of public debate. We sum up by pointing out the affordances that the posters offer to actors in these different domains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Culture and media transform each other through mediatization. Mediatization interacts between culture and media through artifacts of material and visual culture to convey its messages to as many people as possible. Religion is an important component of culture, so it may be interesting to analyze the influence of mediatization on specific religious practices such as rites, particularly the rite of marriage. The processes of mediatization in marriage rites act performatively on physical and cultural space, and they are reshaping religious values and norms. Starting from the relationship between the ritual form of marriage and the physical shape of the architecture designed to host them, this article analyzes the relationship between mediatization and interfaith marriage rites. The objective is to show how the condition of inter-religiousness can demonstrate the presence of invariants in the structure of marriage rites and the architectural characterof the spaces where they take place. This article aims to demonstrate that the performative dimension of the space of marriage rites is based on these invariants, which are becoming one of the main tools through which mediatization is acting. There is a correlative relationship between mediatization and social interaction. Communication scholars have paid attention to this relationship. We argue that mediatization involves the incorporation of various patterns of interaction among users of social media platforms. We used two theoretical approaches, namely mediatization and symbolic interaction. We surveyed a purposive sample that we selected according to certain criteria. Regression analysis revealed the correlative relationship between the dimensions of mediatization over social media platforms and the patterns of symbolic interaction among users. Mediatization and digitalization are trends that are increasingly affecting religious communities and their communicative practices. While many aspects of these developments have been described theoretically and empirically, little is known about the dynamic interplay between digital media use, an individual's religious meaning system, and the relationships within a religious community. Building on the theory of the mediatization of religion, the functionalist perspective of religion, media selection, and co-orientation research, we propose a dynamic model of digital media use in religious communities. Hereby, the religious functions of meaning-making and social connection are considered important drivers for how individuals engage with others. Additionally, theories on media selection help our understanding of the acceptance and domestication of new technologies, as well as selective exposure to specific content. In combination, the model links the individuals with the social context of their religious communities and vice versa. Furthermore, the theoretical model helps to combine and systematize empirical research from different disciplines that are relevant to understanding today's digital religious media use. The advent of digital platforms and new technologies of information and communication has transformed the manner in which citizens interact with art. Emerging as key actors, prosumers have (re)appropriated images, including traditional works. A qualitative model is presented to understand the mediatization of prosumers, revealing the significance of their new agency as producers. Grounded theory and socio-semiotic analysis are combined from a phenomenological perspective. This approach unravels the complexities of the mediatization of art in social networks. Doç. Dr. Haberli, gelişen medya kültürü konusunda sosyolojik ve iletişimsel tahayyüle sahip ve Türk akademisinde medyanın din bağlamında incelenmesine öncülük etmiş bir araştırmacıdır. Özellikle Sanal Din isimli kitap çalışması (2014), medyanın din sosyolojisi literatüründe yeni bir kulvar açtığı yıllarda özgün bir çalışma niteliğindedir. This article explores the deployment of various communicative strategies within prominent medical blogs. The study analyzes 400 texts in Russian and Armenian, sourced from diverse social networks. The selection of these materials is justified by the growing popularization of medical knowledge and the escalating public interest in health, which motivates physicians to undertake active educational initiatives across all accessible information platforms. The objective of this research is to systematically delineate the primary communicative strategies and tactics employed in Russian- and Armenian-language medical blogs authored by doctors from a range of specialties. The significance of this study arises from the incontrovertible popularity of social networks and the progressive mediatization of medical discourse, coupled with a gap in scholarly literature regarding the comparative analysis of Russian and Armenian medical discourses. The findings reveal that medical media discourse on social networks predominantly implements two communicative strategies: informational-educational and manipulative. Each strategy has distinct goals and is manifested through specific communicative tactics. The informational-educational strategy seeks to disseminate medical knowledge through tactics such as providing concise information, referencing authoritative sources, offering guidance, and dispelling medical myths. In contrast, the manipulative strategy aims to market certain products or services, thus actively employing marketing tactics like extolling the virtues of one’s offerings, drawing attention to the blogger’s professional accomplishments and expertise, among others. The study concludes that tactics associated with the manipulative strategy are prevalent in both Russian and Armenian medical blogs, as are tactics related to myth debunking, instructional guidance, and the provision of succinct information within the informational-educational framework.

One of the most acute and poorly predicted social problems in modern educational institutions around the world and in Russia has become school shooting (armed mass attacks) with tragic consequences and a long-term subsequent media effect. Revenge, the will to power, the search for universal attention: what motivates school shooters and generates a chain of subsequent tragic attacks in educational institutions? To a large extent, this is determined not only by internal factors (mental, behavioral characteristics), but also by external influence, including informational ones. The study is devoted to the study of a underexplored segment of fan-literature about school shooting and its participants, posted on the Wattpat and Ficbook media resources, from the position of identifying the main gender, thematic and content characteristics that contribute to maintaining interest in school shooting, its glorification and mythologization. The characteristic of the specifics, forms and mechanisms of promoting the ideas of school shooting in the media environment is obtained by the example of communities of creators and readers of fanfiction. The study was carried out using the methodological capabilities of modern communication theories as well as using Data-Science. It has been revealed that through fan literature, the topic of school shooting has largely become legalized, expanded its audience, and became a “gray zone”, poorly controlled from the outside.

In the wake of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, religious organizations increasingly mediatized their activities. Studies examining this process mostly focused on communal offerings, while ignoring how rapid mediatization affected programs geared toward interfaith dialogue. This paper examines the effects and possibilities of this shift to virtual spaces by focusing on frameworks that promote Jewish–Muslim dialogue in Germany. It traces how Jews and Muslims intervene in popular discourse using social media platforms to self-define their respective religions and the relationship between them. In this process, those involved in creating virtual spaces focused on the intersectionality between gender biases and Christonormativity. This paper utilizes a broad methodological approach, including participant observation in dialogue events in virtual spaces, discursive analyses of videos and podcasts, and qualitative interviews with Jews and Muslims involved in the creation of virtual spaces. The first section discusses Jewish–Muslim encounters occurring in organized dialogue events on video communication platforms that are ephemeral in nature (no recordings). This paper aims to develop a theoretical interpretation of how satellite navigation transforms drivers' experience of automotive spaces. The use of satellite navigation has, so far, been predominantly studied from a cognitivist perspective based on the computer model of cognition and the theory of spatial disengagement. Experimental studies have concluded that over-reliance on digital navigation tools diminishes spatial orientation and spatial memory. According to the dominant interpretation, satellite navigation causes disengagement from space. After addressing these approaches, the paper introduces an embodied perspective of satellite navigation. This is accomplished by applying the phenomenology of perception of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, whose notions, such as perception, body schema, motor habit, and virtual body, illuminate otherwise undertheorized dimensions of drivers' spaces. By using digital tools for wayfinding, drivers' body schema, virtual body, and perception of space are modified, thereby enabling an engagement with convoluted 'mesh spaces.' This new term is integral to the interpretation of drivers' spaces, as well as being distinct from that of 'hybrid space,' although both aim to conceptualize spaces, including physical objects and their visual representations. Professional economists wield considerable power as experts and policymakers. Consequently, economists frequently appear in the media, where they comment on current economic issues and assess economic policy options. Despite the status of economists, little is known about the relationship between economists and the media and how economists use the media to promote economic and political interests. Building on the scholarship on the mediatization of expertise, this article analyzes the mediatization of the economist profession. The article draws on 17 semi-structured interviews with Finnish economists who appear frequently in the news media. The findings reveal how institutions from private banks to research institutes use economists to advance their economic and political interests via the media. It is found that using social media and serving journalists are elemental parts of an economist's job description. Furthermore, economists work closely with communications professionals to advance organizational interests. The study grasps the transformation of agency in the context of mundane production and use of mapping apps. It is asked theoretically and empirically, who produces and maintains Google Maps as cartographic infrastructure and how is this kind of agency being reflected and acted upon from a lifeworld perspective. Firstly, findings are compiled from various interdisciplinary studies on digital cartography, platform capitalism and digital infrastructures. Since these studies focus on agency almost exclusively from a structural perspective, a qualitative study is conducted to explore the use of Google Maps in everyday life. 20 interviews with German users show that digitalization and datafication profoundly change the dynamics of how agency is perceived and reflected. It can be understood as a form of extension of agency because it is deeply rooted in the entanglement of Google Maps' infrastructure and city dwellers everyday practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The background of this current research is the shift in the pattern of fulfilling the need for religiosity. The purpose is to examine the mediatization of faith (religion) through media (docudrama). The research question is how docudrama mediatizes faith. The method applied was rhetorical criticism in communication research. This method signifies text and audience's reception and corresponds to qualitative textual and reception analysis. This current research particularly adapted Jensen's (2002) media-audience qualitative reception design. The procedure adapted from Frey, et al. (1999) included selecting Solusi docudrama and viewers' comments on YouTube channel as data, describing themes by identifying elements and inter-relatedness among scenes, analyzing the salient ideas embedded within the themes, interpreting the narrative structure, and evaluating the persuasive force of messages supported by the viewers' comments. The findings show that docudrama mediatizes religion by representing the interconnection of notions between religiosity-spirituality and individualitycommunity, the notions of religion in the dramatization frame, and by producing the audience's pseudo model of reading. In conclusion, media (docudrama) mediatizes faith (religion) by representing the religious frames from a universal and psychic point of view. This study looks at why trust and belief in news of Pakistan has lost its credibility and how Pakistani news media portray the relation between believing stories, democracy, and changes happening around us. To explore what factors harm media credibility, and how can we restored a qualitative research method is applied. The variables used to judge the credibility of the news media were, belief, accuracy, fairness, bias, trustworthiness, and dependability. In-depth interviews with a diverse group of media professionals were conducted using purposive sampling Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring patterns and themes in the data, giving an understanding of the effects of mediatization on viewer’s perceptions. This article delves into the implications of celebrity-driven fashion brands in the 21st century. Initially, it traces the evolution of the first generations of traditional fashion designers from the 19th and 20th centuries, highlighting how designers serve as a simplified reference point, as they aggregate the intricate processes of fashion creation under a public persona. Subsequently, employing a close reading and visual analysis methodology, I examine the case of musician Pharrell Williams in his role as creative director at Louis Vuitton. I argue that celebrities taking on roles as fashion designers represent a new generation in this field. This shift is an inevitable culmination of the "celebrification" that traditional designers have undergone over the years. I further argue that celebrity-driven brands introduce a diverse offering in terms of taste, experience and image. By integrating fashion with entertainment, celebrities enable brands like Louis Vuitton to reorganize as a "Cultural Maison." These celebrities, outsiders penetrating high-end fashion, exploit the so-called democratic and hybrid logic of social media, and gradually overshadowing the cultural significance of traditional designers, pushing them behind the scenes. Political actors in negotiations often face the challenge of contradictory logics of discreet compromise-building on the one hand and generating media publicity to enhance transparency and gain public support on the other. This paper examines how members of parliament (MPs) handle this dilemma within intra-coalition parliamentary negotiations that are essential for legislative decision-making. By referring to the mediatization approach, the concept of self-mediatization of political negotiation systems is introduced to theoretically capture politicians' self-initiated media publications regarding negotiations and associated changes in their negotiation behavior. It is hypothesized that the self-mediatization of negotiations is influenced by negotiators' general tendency to seek media attention as well as situational pressures and incentives. The hypotheses were tested with a factorial survey among German state-level MPs (n = 258) using experimental vignettes. Results show that both individual and situational factors affect parliamentarians' tendency to publicly communicate about negotiations and consequently negotiate in a more news-media-logic-compatible, that is, more conflictual, manner. However, since the surveyed MPs on average show a high willingness to agree with their coalition partner on the explicit secrecy of negotiations, independent of the influencing parameters examined, self-mediatization does not seem to be an existential threat to the intra-coalition compromise-building capacity of parliamentary negotiation systems. This study focuses on social and physical distancing narratives during the outbreak of Covid-19 in India. Researchers have attempted to explore the trajectory of discursive practices that define social and physical distancing and its impact on human psychology. Further, the study looks at the communication strategies that have been mediated to create a mediatized reality focused on keeping a safe distance from one another to prevent the spread of the virus that caused self-isolation, compelled quarantine, and worry over health issues like psychological distress, Depression, and mental anxiety. Researchers have incorporated mediation, analyzing the narratives around societal and cultural practices that are integral to societal behavioral patterns. Implementing physical distancing in India happened because many communities understood social distancing along caste lines. This article explores the becoming-church of fake news against the background of the rise of the mediatization of faith and religious beliefs through classic media supports, such as newspapers, magazines, and journals, between 1840 and 1863 in the United States. The analysis focuses on the expression of Seventh-day Adventist Church beliefs in the Adventist press before 1863. The observation of this corpus follows the construction of the "narrative" of fake news from the story propagated by William Miller. The aim is to understand how the Seventh-day Adventist Church was created in the media from the fake news of William Miller. The article shows that the mediatization of William Miller's fake news made the Seventh-day Adventist Church appear as the embodiment of an agnostic movement, as the material trace of a cultural expression of romanticism, but also as a spiritual organization, with a social and auxiliary political vocation. This article focuses on migrant workers (MWs) during Covid-19 in Singapore. A second wave of Covid-19 transmissions in MW dormitories in 2020 had cast a spotlight on this vulnerable population, amidst inter/national criticisms of the national government for oversight. From a critical discourse studies perspective, we examine how the national newspaper attempted to restore a positive self-image of the Singapore government, through the discursive mobilization of 'ideological circles'. These ideological circles involve, variously, positive and negative discursive presentational strategies of the Singapore government, its MWs, selected regional governments, and their MWs. The study unpacks the ideological mechanisms at work in the restoration of the government's reputation as well as examines the implications for MWs in Singapore as perpetual 'others'. In contemporary media environments, mainstream news media have become increasingly challenged by political alternative media. Even though research on how political alternative media cover politics and society has increased, there is still limited research comparing how political alternative media and mainstream news media cover key political events, such as election campaigns. To fill this gap, the purpose of this study is to compare election news coverage in political alternative and mainstream news media, drawing theoretically on theories related to mediatization and structural bias on the one hand, and politicization and political bias on the other. Empirically, the overarching research question is how election coverage in left- and right-wing political alternative and mainstream media differs. Findings suggest that political alternative media do function as an alternative to mainstream news media in that they offer more politicized coverage of election campaigns. However, left-wing, and right-wing political alternative media also constitute alternatives to each other in how the election campaigns are covered.

Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag analysiert aktuelle Veränderungen der Beratungssettings in der Berufs- und Laufbahnberatung, die durch Mediatisierung und Digitalisierung der Beratung und die Covid-19-Pandemie erheblich forciert wurden und werden. In Anlehnung an bildungswissenschaftliche Überlegungen zu „Hybrid Learning“ werden diese Veränderungen als „Hybridisierungstendenzen“ bezeichnet und als Grenzverschiebungen auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen (räumlich, zeitlich, sozial, institutionell) konzeptualisiert. Auf Basis einer Umfrage unter Bayerischen Berufsberaterinnen und Berufsberatern der Bundesagentur für Arbeit (n = 237) wird dargestellt, welche Hybridisierungstendenzen seit der Pandemie erlebt wurden, welche in der Zukunft erwartet und wie diese bewertet werden.

Mediatization discourse has so far mainly been centered on media from institutional or social-constructionist approaches. The technological developments within communications industries coupled with the wider societal process of datafication might, however, beg for dusting off the smaller, although the long-time existing, technological approach to mediatization as a complement to the two other approaches, in order to understand aspects of automation and human-machine communication. This theoretical article explores how existing mediatization approaches can refocus to include lessons learned from human-machine communication. The first section accounts for the main mediatization approaches. The second section discusses debates on communication, artificiality, and meaning-making. The last section takes the example of the recruitment interview for discussing how mediatization theory can benefit from including a technological approach with an influx from human-machine communication, as well as how human-machine communication can learn from wider discussions within mediatization theory.

As research fields, mediatization and Human-Machine Communication (HMC) have distinct historical trajectories. While mediatization research is concerned with the fundamental interrelation between the transformation of media and communications and cultural and societal changes, the much younger field of HMC delves into human meaning-making in interactions with machines. However, the recent wave of “deep mediatization,” characterized by an increasing emphasis on general communicative automation and the rise of communicative AI, highlights a shared interest in technology’s role within human interaction. This introductory article examines the trajectories of both fields, demonstrating how mediatization research “zooms out” from overarching questions of societal and cultural transformations, while HMC tends to “zoom in” to approach the concrete situatedness of the interaction between humans and machines. It is argued that we need to combine both perspectives to better understand how the automation of communication transforms the social construction of culture and society. This article offers an overview of the key themes explored in this thematic issue, highlighting the productive intersection of HMC and mediatization within each article. Additionally, it identifies potential avenues for future research emerging from this fruitful intersection.

One of the key trends that can be seen in gentrifying environments is the use of "street art" murals, which are increasingly connected to official government-sanctioned "street art festivals," to decorate the walls of urban neighborhoods—sometimes located in officially designated "arts" or "creative districts." In this article, I consider the role that Instagram practices have played in the popularization of such districts. In a case study of Denver's RiNo Art District, I argue that as street art is used to turn everyday urban environments into sites of adventurous exploration, the sharing of images from these discoveries on social media helps to make territories more familiar and thus more open to socioeconomic change. Current developments relating to integrating information and communication technologies (ICT) in learning lead us to wonder about the positive impact that pedagogical video can have on e-learning devices mediating between teacher and learner. Determining the concepts of mediatization and mediation constitutes one of the essential bases of any pedagogical engineering of mediated videos to ensure better transmission of knowledge. To articulate the two concepts of mediation and mediatization, designers, teachers, and trainers must not only mediate the contents of the video but also the pedagogical relation, the design and production process, without forgetting the scenarization phase of the pedagogical videos, which occupy an important place in the pedagogical engineering. In our article, after giving an overview of the two concepts, mediation, and mediatization, we define the pedagogical video, the use of the pedagogical video, and the forms of the pedagogical video. In the past decades, the frontier between entertainment and politics has been shrinking, as politicians and political parties use tactis from the entertainment field to gather electorate. This work studies the use of this kind of tactics by Iniciativa Liberal in 2019's Europeans and Legislatives, in order to grasp how this emergent political party used humor to grab the attention of its potential electorate. The research applies a semiotic analysis to a corpus made of some of the party's 2019 outdoors. The results point to a use of analogies of popular culture and satire in the construction of humor. This tactics were used for differentiation from other Portuguese political parties and to clarify the party's political ideals in memorable phrases. Humor was still used to liberate tension in the electorate in relation to problems of the Portuguese political landscape, furthering an emotional connection through laughter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to revisit Mauricio Tragtenberg's sociological critique in the field of communication and popular struggles, we discuss the foundations of libertarian and anarchist communication as principles for analyzing capitalist mediation and mediatization. To this end, we recover from Tragtenberg what he characterized as: "the emergence of electronic mass media", "their mobilizing potential in a new productive process" and the "contradictions inherent in the structure of the media". Postulates that have an impact on the analysis of digitalization and social datafication, and arguments for the defence of popular communication and critical propaganda for social transformation. This study explores the role of the song-form within the phenomena of mediatization of sport, focusing on the case of cycling in the Italian mediascape. After illustrating the different forms of sports mediatization in songs, by reporting on the case study, this paper will highlight, first of all, the specificity of the paratextual mediatization of the songs in the Giro d'Italia. These songs represent a cohesive and identifying medium in a historical moment in which the media-narrative of this sport loses the epic, romantic and mythological stylistic features that it had possessed for a long time. After that, the investigation of the forms of textual mediatization will reveal to what extent they are addressed to some practices of revitalization of an imaginary of the past, underlining an ancestral dimension of the bicycle that was served in post-war Italy to nurture an emotional inspiration useful for relieving oneself of the difficulties of war. This aspect is re-vitalized on a textual level in songs that are configured as stories, but which have not been able to transform themselves - as happens for example in football - into practices of performative and collective sharing. The study explores the perspectives of political parties regarding news media coverage in election campaigns. By analyzing official post-election analyses produced by Swedish political parties from 2010 to 2022, the study offers a novel approach to the study of political party views of news media. The findings largely support the arguments proposed by mediatization literature, highlighting the significance of media in party communication. Parties display eagerness to attract positive media attention while expressing regret over inadequate or negative publicity. More surprisingly, there is a lack of references to media bias in the reports, suggesting that the hostile media effect is not a major concern among Swedish parties. Despite criticisms related to irrelevant reporting and perceived negative coverage, party perceptions towards the media remains predominantly neutral. The study contributes to the understanding of the complex relationship between political parties and news media in the context of election campaigns.

Kehamilan, kendati dianggap sebagai fase bahagia, juga membawa ambiguitas dan tingkat stres yang meningkat akibat perubahan tubuh yang signifikan sehingga membuat mereka membutuhkan perlindungan dan dukungan sosial. Kini para wanita hamil dapat menggunakan media sosial untuk memperoleh dukungan sosial secara online. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat proses mediatisasi dukungan sosial online dalam grup Facebook Kumpulan Ibu Hamil Indonesia (KIHI) dan juga menjabarkan tentang implikasi dari mediatisasi dukungan sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan netnografi untuk memahami mediatisasi dukungan sosial online dalam grup Facebook Kumpulan Ibu Hamil Indonesia (KIHI). Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi terstruktur terhadap lima orang informan yang memiliki latar belakang usia, lokasi dan pekerjaan yang berbeda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses mediatisasi mencakup ekstensi, substitusi, amalgamasi, dan akomodasi, dengan implikasi berupa akses informasi yang mudah, kerahasiaan identitas, ekspresi emosi melalui emoji, dan perluasan ranah privat ke ruang publik. Pregnancy, although considered a joyful phase, also brings ambiguity and increased stress levels due to significant changes in the body, which makes individuals require protection and social support. Recently, pregnant women can use social media to obtain social support online. The purpose of this study is to examine the process of online social support mediatization in the Facebook group Komunitas Ibu Hamil Indonesia (KIHI) and to explain the implications of social support mediatization. This study used a netnographic approach to investigate the mediatization of online social support in the Kumpulan Ibu Hamil Indonesia (KIHI) Facebook group. Data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with five informants ranging in age, geography, and work experience. The research results indicate that the process of mediatization involves extension, substitution, amalgamation, and accommodation, with implications such as easy access to information, identity confidentiality, emotional expression via emojis, and the expansion of the private sphere into the public sphere.

This paper examines how well the government agencies responsible for the implementation of specific areas of national youth policy in Russia manage to cover this topic on their social media resources, and identifies relevant trends for the space where the state and youth communicate. The results of our qualitative and quantitative content analysis of posts showed that the topic of youth policy does not receive proper coverage on the agencies’ own social media accounts. Most often, youth policy is discussed in the context of covering events for young Russians. In addition, much attention is paid to documenting meetings of government officials to discuss issues within their areas of competence. At the same time, reports on specific government measures to support young people, current initiatives, and success stories of young Russians who take an active part in the development and implementation of the country’s youth policy rarely get published on the agencies’ accounts. The potential of the format for discussing youth policy in an open dialog on equal terms with the audience has yet to be tapped into. We believe it is possible to view the identified features of the communication strategies of the agencies as manifested demediatization of interaction between the state and youth.

Qualitative reception studies have shown that new media neither radically change people’s media repertoires, nor do they replace the old. Established media practices remain relevant, and users actively persist on old media (technologies). To show why and how this persistence is embedded by its users, the paper at hand addresses old media persistence from a user’s and appropriation perspective. Thus, following the mediatization approach, we enfold the concept of the interplay of dynamics and persistence and transfer its theoretical ideas to two studies that deal with (1) the persistence of the TV in everyday media repertoires and (2) the persisting usage of vinyl records in the face of digital streaming services in everyday life. Our aim is to illuminate why and how users, on the one hand, persist on established media practices, but on the other hand, simultaneously combine them meaningfully with new media (practices) within their respective everyday lives.

The research is relevant due to the interest of linguistics in studying Russian-language mediatization discursive practices, which contribute to the perception and evaluation of the contemporarily implemented concepts envisioned as a new social reality in media communication. The article introduces the mechanism of transcultural concept mediatization exemplified by the concept “Individual Mobility” that is emerging in the Russian language consciousness. The paper substantiates corpus linguistic methodology applicability to research into the scrutiny of the current media practices. The dynamic nature of introduction and inculcation of ideas upon the significance of mobility provided by personal transporters as the fashionable way of life, represented in the thesaurus of media texts corpus, proves research outcomes novelty. By applying the corpus methods, the linguistic mechanisms of the concept “Individual Mobility” mediatization are revealed as being represented in the dominance of translingual units in the key concept domain nominations and chronological variability in the nominative density of their implementation; the thematically heterogeneous nature of thesaurus of the texts corpus governs the perception of the contemporarily implemented concept by Russian-speaking actors of mass media discourse. The evaluation vector in conceptualization of the socially significant phenomenon under study in the Russian media discourse is determined, its specificity is described. The concept “Individual Mobility” mediatization is being traced in the hybridization of the thematic layer of media texts corpus, in particular, in the presence of administrative discourse vocabulary whilst the relative stability of terminology that nominates fashionable personal transporters and their users. The presence of lexical units, which comprise the thematic group “Risk of injury” accompanied by legal and administrative vocabulary, indicates the dynamic formation of mass critical and negative comprehension of the concept “Individual Mobility” domain accomplished by means of the chosen vectors of mediatization.

Culture and media transform each other through mediatization. Mediatization interacts between culture and media through artifacts of material and visual culture to convey its messages to as many people as possible. Religion is an important component of culture, so it may be interesting to analyze the influence of mediatization on specific religious practices such as rites, particularly the rite of marriage. The processes of mediatization in marriage rites act performatively on physical and cultural space, and they are reshaping religious values and norms. Starting from the relationship between the ritual form of marriage and the physical shape of the architecture designed to host them, this article analyzes the relationship between mediatization and interfaith marriage rites. The objective is to show how the condition of inter-religiousness can demonstrate the presence of invariants in the structure of marriage rites and the architectural characterof the spaces where they take place. This article aims to demonstrate that the performative dimension of the space of marriage rites is based on these invariants, which are becoming one of the main tools through which mediatization is acting.

School choice is a controversial issue in the public discussion of education. In Chile, the new School Admission System (SAE) was recently implemented to gradually reverse the country’s high educational segregation. However, this system is facing strong opposition. Voucher and free choice promoters have opposed SAE because they claim it violates the freedom of families and merit. The media have actively participated in this debate, working as political actors. By applying a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative thematic analysis, we study how Chilean media have framed school choice, and discuss the political contention faced by policies that attempt to reverse the primacy of the market in a global context of neoliberal education policies. Scholars have for some years hypothesized a "new visibility" of religion, so that a relevant role in the publicization of religion is played by the media. However, while the public visibility of religion in the media has recently become a topic of great interest at the international level, in Italy, the literature on this topic is quite scarce. It is of particular interest in Italy due to the central role played by the Catholic Church, which, despite the changed socio-political context and the transformations of the media system, does not seem to have lost its capacity to intervene publicly. Therefore, this study intends to fill this gap through a longitudinal analysis of the coverage of the Catholic Church in the main Italian print newspapers in the last 17 years (2005–2021). In total, 202,788 articles were collected and analysed using a content analysis. Results show that, in Italy, we cannot speak of a greater visibility of religion, in particular of the Catholic Church today in print press than in the past, nor of a uniformity with respect to the way in which is spoken about it in terms of issues and religious actors. This article examines the extent to which mediatization, as a western-centric metatheory central to an understanding of how the media logic comes to influence the political logic, applies to the study of non-western case studies. Considering the case of the 2006 Palestinian internal conflict (the split), the article examines the role of pan-Arab transnational satellite TV (PTSTV) journalism in covering the conflict's trajectories. Building on primary qualitative data, gathered via semi-structured interviews with prominent stakeholders/insiders in the two parties and relevant sectors of news media and politics, the article explores the interplay between regional and Palestinian politics, evident in PTSTV's coverage, and shows how available western-centred theoretical paradigms that draw on mediatization – in examining mediatized conflicts – fell short in examining such interplay for contextual, structural and sociocultural challenges in PTSTV's operating milieu. Alternatively, the study inductively explored this interplay, overcoming the aforesaid contextual challenges, and provided evidence on how, with the lack of democratic principles in PTSTV's operational milieu, structural/internal characteristics in these channels interacted with peripheral/external dimensions in their milieu and adversely affected their cultural dimension (coverage). PTSTV produced escalatory journalism that disseminated inflammatory content within a politically fractured culture, exacerbating the conflict and expanding the gap between the two rivals. This inductive approach in tracing the interplay – and its concurrent bargaining process – revealed five pivotal characteristics in PTSTV performance that are unique to those postulated in mediatization. They stand in this article as an authentic theoretical contribution that facilitated the handling of analytical challenges in the case study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
