Over the past few years, there has been significant interest in the importance of reversible hydro-pumping systems due to their favorable flexibility and economic and environmental characteristics. When designing reversible lines, it is crucial to consider dynamic effects and corresponding extreme pressures that may occur during normal and emergency operating scenarios. This research describes essentially the turbine operation, although various boundary elements are mathematically formulated and presented to provide an understanding of the system complexity. Different numerical approaches are presented, based on the 1D method of characteristics (MOC) for the long hydraulic circuit, the dynamic turbine runner simulation technique for the behavior of the power station in turbine mode and the interaction with the fluid in the penstock, and a CFD model (2D and 3D) to analyze the flow behavior crossing the runner through the velocity fields and pressure contours. Additionally, the simulation results have been validated by experimental tests on different setups characterized by long conveyance systems, consisting of a small scale of pumps as turbines (at IST laboratory) and classical reaction turbines (at LNEC laboratory). Mathematical models, together with an intensive campaign of experiments, allow for the estimation of dynamic effects related to the extreme transient pressures, the fluid-structure interaction with rotational speed variation, and the change in the flow. In some cases, the runaway conditions can cause an overspeed of 2–2.5 of the rated rotational speed (NR) and an overpressure of 40–65% of the rated head (HR), showing significant impacts on the pressure wave propagation along the entire hydraulic circuit. Sensitivity analyses based on systematic numerical simulations of PATs (radial and axial types) and reaction turbines (Francis and Kaplan types) and comparisons with experiments are discussed. These evaluations demonstrate that the full-load rejection scenario can be dangerous for turbomachinery with low specific-speed (ns) values, in particular when associated with long penstocks and fast guide vane (or control valve) closing maneuver. © 2023 by the authors.

Objectives To combat SARS-CoV2 (Covid-19), policy makers worldwide have adopted different policy alternatives, often including mitigation/suppression policies. We assessed the economic impact of such policies on dental practices in Germany using a modelling approach. Methods A providers’ perspective within German healthcare was taken, with two provider scenarios (low/high volume practice, low/high proportion of non-statutory insurance revenue, low/high staff pool and costs; S1 and S2 scenarios) being modelled. Providers’ costs were estimated in different blocks (staff, material, laboratory, others). A telephone-based survey was conducted on 24th March to 2nd April 2020 on a random sample of 300 German dentists (response: n = 146) to determine the experienced dental services utilization changes in these service blocks. A Markov model was constructed, following 100 practices in each scenario for a total of 365 days. Different Covid-19 mitigation/suppression periods (90 days: base-case, 45, 135 days: sensitivity analyses) were modelled. Monte-Carlo micro-simulation was performed and uncertainty introduced via probabilistic and univariate sensitivity analyses. Results Mitigation/suppression reduced utilization of all services, the most severe for prevention (-80 % in mean), periodontics (-76 %) and prosthetics (-70 %). Within the base-case, mean revenue reductions were 18.7 %/15.7 % from the public insurance, 18.7/18.6 % from private insurers and 19 %/19 % for out-of-pocket expenses in S1/S2, respectively. If the mitigation/suppression was upheld for 135 days, overall revenue decreased by 31 %/30 % in S1/S2, respectively. In this case, 29 %/12 % S1/S2 would have a negative net profit over the course of one year. Conclusions Covid-19 and associated policies have profound economic effect on dental practices. Clinical signifiance Policy makers will want to consider our findings when designing governmental subsidy and safety nets with immediate and midterm economic relieve effects. Dentists may consider practice re-organization to reduce costs and maintain minimum profitability.

The publication reflects the research results of the rationalization of the rolling stock use of JSC LG Lithuanian railways to increase the reliability indicators of the freight diesel locomotive exploitation reliability. The comparative evaluation of the exploited freight diesel locomotive work duration, according to the technical documentation, by using comparative test results and indirect diesel reliability criteria approved in practice. An algorithm of work duration forecasting methodology has been created, as well as a programme complex of mathematic modelling. The differences of the results indicated in the experiment and modelled by computer do not exceed 5 ÷ 7%. The proposed and described methodology of the diesel locomotive exploitation load cycle dynamic indicator reduction, by the use of which the following is achieved: increase of the diesel work duration by 7÷10%, reduction of fuel consumption up to 10%, reduction of the load cycle dynamic indicators (increasing the fatigue stress of parts and units of the diesel) by 15÷20%.

In this paper, we focused on optimizing processes that minimize the consumption of water, electricity, and auxiliary chemicals. An indirect mathematical-physical deterministic model based on mass balance can be used to optimize the process. It is a diffusion process characterized by the diffusion coefficient and the fixing power of the washed component to the white hide after deliming process. Реалізація біотехнології дозволяє досягти ефективності очищення води за залізом та манганом: з природними культурами - 94-99 % та 71-87 %; з селектованими - 98-99 % та 94-97 % відповідно. Розроблено технологію інтенсифікації процесу деамонізації у біофільтрах шляхом внесення у фільтруюче завантаження попередньо розрахованої кількості культур нітри- та денітрифікаторів, що дозволяє скоротити підготовчий режим роботи фільтра з 18 до 2 діб. Розроблено технологію одержання близьких за своїм складом до природних мікроценозів препаратів, використання яких збільшує ефективність біодеструкції на 26,4±0,2 у порівнянні з традиційними. Dissertation for obtaining the scientific degree of the doctor of technical sciences in the specialty 03.00.20 - biotechnology. - National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2019. The dissertation is devoted to scientific substantiation of new energy and resource efficient and ecological biotechnologies for intensification of processes of preparation of drinking water and utilization of solid household waste in municipal infrastructure objects, containing removing iron, manganese and nitrogen compounds from water as well as intensification for biodestruction of organic compounds in solid wastes. In the study of the work of rapid filters on the water intake of the village of Khoroshiv, results were obtained that showed the iron / oxygen ratio to be at level of 0.12 - 0.25, which is according to existing ideas not enough to provide deep treatment, that was obtained practically. This lead us to idea of biotechnological process to take place. To confirm the above assumption, experiments were carried out on filtration of water with an iron concentration of 13,3 ± 0,8 mg / dm3 at a different filtration rate and in the presence of bacteria in the filter material. The results of additional experiments showed that usage of oxygen (which allowed biological growth) lead to deeper treatment than in case of hypochlorite usage. That is, the results obtained not only confirmed the role of microorganisms in the process of non-irritation / demaganization, but also showed the possibility of practical application of biotechnology methods to improve the efficiency of water purification from iron and manganese. For the thorough examination of the biological agent from the filtering material of the various filters, 10 cultures of iron and manganese oxidizing microorganisms were isolated. The evaluation of the morphology of the cultures obtained, according to the scheme, allowed them to be classified as Siderocapsa, Leptothrix, Sphaerotillus, Galionella, Metallogenium, Hyphomicrobium. The data of following experiments showed a predominant role in the processes of water disinfection of microorganisms of Leptothrix, Sphaerotillus, Metallogenium and Siderocapsa. Increasing the activity of a biological agent can be achieved by creating selective cultures of Leptotrix and Sphaerotilus, that can contribute to a deeper removal of manganese from water (up to 98% for Mn). To implement the proposed schemes a number of technological tasks were solved, including: to develop effective methods of transfer of inoculum to the loading of filters, to select the most suitable filtering loading for the specified purposes, to determine the optimum parameters and regimes of filtering and washing of the filtering layer. Based on the results of the research carried out for the implementation of biotechnology for disinfection and demagnetization on rapid filters, two technological schemes were developed using natural or selected microorganisms cultures. The study of the possibility of intensifying the deamonization of underground water technology was carried out by conducting a complex of pilot studies on the water of the artesian well in the city of Khmelnytsky. The experimental plant included filter with an aerator, loaded with a special filter material, on which the microorganisms are effectively fixed and retained. The results of the experiments allowed to reveal important dependencies. Since the concentration of dissolved oxygen at the filter inlet has an opposite effect on the flow of processes, it was appropriate to investigate their regularities at different values of this indicator. The results of experiments showed that when the oxygen supply was reduced from 8 to 5.5 mg / dm3, the concentration of ammonium in the filtered water was in the range of 0.11-0.12 mg / dm3, nitrites - 0.27-0.28 mg / dm3, and nitrates gradually decreased from 11.0 to 2.4 mg / dm3, that is, at high concentrations of oxygen due to nitrification, a significant amount of nitrates was produced, and as the oxygen content decreased due to denitrification, the decomposition of nitrates and their concentration declined. The mathematical model was prepared to describe this process and the resulting program was realized in Swift 4.0. The results of the comparison of the experimental data obtained with the forecast by model showed that the prediction error of the model does not exceed 6.0%, that is, it is much smaller than the allowable value for engineering calculations. Based on the results of the research and the developed model, a technology for intensifying the biofiltration process for ammonia removal was developed to decrease time of filters preparation. The use of technology has allowed to shorten the start time of the filter for use from 18 to 2 days. The interconnection between the morphological composition of the solid waste and the biocenoses formed therein was investigated by sorting several samples that arrive at the polygons mm. Kiev and Khmelnitsky. The correlation with coefficient R=0,65-0,68 was stablished and mathematical model to describe the process was obtained. An assessment of the adequacy of the developed model was carried out by comparing the predicted data obtained from the model with the experimental data for the map of the polygon in Chernivtsi with an approximate time of stay of the SHW for 5 years. Comparison of the predicted composition of the biocenosis with the actual allocated showed that the difference between the predicted and actual data on the number of bacteria in the biocenose was 12.5%, and according to the morphological composition - did not exceed 15%, which confirmed the adequacy of the developed model. An assessment of the effectiveness of the proposed technology was carried out by laboratory on samples of MSW in Kyiv using a traditional Bacillus-based preparate and mixed one, the composition of which was determined by simulation. According to the data obtained, the use of a mixture accelerated the biodestruction and rate of subsidence of the sample (by 26,4 ± 0,2%). Актуальність теми. Використання моделей при проектуванні складних систем вже певний час є загальною практикою. Такі моделі використовуються для проведення експериментів, за результатами яких можна оцінити кількісні характеристики, такі як рівень надійності і ефективність цих систем ще на етапах проектування, що дуже важливо у зв'язку з високою вартістю побудови таких систем. Створення нових та вдосконалення вже існуючих методів побудови таких моделей з метою досягнення більшої швидкості визначення стану систем впродовж виконання статистичних тестів, що виконуються з метою визначення рівня надійності системи, спрощує та прискорює роботу спеціалістів, що використовують ці моделі у своїй праці. Об’єктом дослідження є моделі, що відображують поведінку відмовостійких багатопроцесорних систем, та методи їх створення та підтримки під час використання. Предметом дослідження є метод перетворення GL-моделей шляхом введення внутрішніх ребер з урахуванням попарних реберних циклів. Мета роботи: аналіз існуючих методів перетворення GL-моделей, створення методу, що пропонує рішення для вибору додаткових ребер та реберних функцій враховуючи попарні реберні цикли та їх можливі комбінації. Relevance of the topic. The use of models in the design of complex systems is a common practice for quite a sometime. Such models are used to carry out experiments that can be used to evaluate quantitative characteristics such as the level of reliability and efficiency of these systems at the design stages, which is very important due to the high cost of constructing such systems. Creation and improvement of existing methods of constructing such models in order to achieve a higher speed of determining the state of the systems simplifies and accelerates the work of specialists who use these models in their work. The object of the study are the models that reflect the behavior of fault-tolerant multiprocessor systems and the methods of their creation and support during use. The subject of the study is the method of converting GL-models by introducing internal edges taking into account pairwise edge cycles. Purpose: the analysis of existing methods for converting GL models, the creation of a method that offers solutions for the selection of additional edges and edge functions, taking into account pairwise edge cycles and their possible combinations. Актуальность темы. Использование моделей при проектировании сложных систем уже некоторое время является общей практикой. Такие модели используются для проведения экспериментов, по результатам которых можно оценить количественные характеристики, такие как уровень надежности и эффективности этих систем еще на этапах проектирования, что очень важно в связи с высокой стоимостью построения таких систем. Создание и совершенствование уже существующих методов построения таких моделей с целью достижения большей скорости определения состояния систем упрощает и ускоряет работу специалистов, использующих эти модели в своей работе. Объектом исследования является метод преобразования GL-моделей путем введения внутренних ребер с учетом парных реберных циклов. Предметом исследования являются алгоритмы и аппаратно-программные средства формирования GL-модели и ее поддержки во время использования. Цель работы: анализ существующих методов преобразования GL-моделей, создания метода, предлагает решения для выбора дополнительных ребер и реберных функций учитывая попарные реберные циклы и их возможные комбинации.

Hydrophilic polymers are the most common group of polymers used in the preparation of modifiedrelease drug delivery systems. This is due to their versatility, low cost, high production yield, as well as easy manufacturing and adequate in vitro/in vivo correlation. In normal physiological conditions, the matrix controls the release of the loaded drug over time through a process of diffusion and/or erosion of the matrix, depending on its physicochemical composition. This is particularly relevant when describing the pharmacokinetic profile of nanosized drug delivery systems (nanoparticles). The use of mathematical models became an important tool to characterize the pharmacokinetics of drugs loaded in nanoparticles to improve the drug bioavailability and to establish bioequivalence. Therefore, the drug release profile can be predicted by a minimum number of experimental studies, since the mathematical equations reveal the dissolution rate of the drug loaded in the hydrophilic matrix. The present paper discusses the use of mathematical models when developing modified-release drug delivery systems of nanometer size composed of hydrophilic polymers.

Matematické modely popisující proces srážení krve (hemokoagulaci) se vyvíjejí paralelně s biologickými znalostmi o procesu srážení krve a vychýzejí ze soudobých vědomostí. Vlastní proces srážení krve je velmi časoprostorově složitý. Jelikož při něm dochází k chemické přeměně velkého množství látek, jsou v mnoha případech přijímána určitá zjednodušení - např. počet a vzájemná interakce hemokoagulačních faktorů. Z hlediska matematického přístupu lze modely hemokoagulace rozdělit do dvou hlavních skupin: 1) modely tvořeny systémem obyčejných diferenciací rovnic (ODR), které se zabývají jen lokálním časovým vývojem koncentrace jednotlivých látek a jejich vzájemným působením, 2) modely popsané systémem parciálních diferenciálních rovnic (PDR), jež zkoumají vznik a chování krevní sraženiny v prostoru, popř. v důsledku protékající krve. Tato práce se zabývá matematickým popisem procesu srážení krve a jeho numerickou simulací v prostředí softwaru Matlab. S využitím teorie reakční kinetiky jsou dva vybrané matematické modely odvozeny a numericky řešeny. Příspěvek byl podpořen interním grantem SGS-2016-038 ZČU v Plzni.

Ložiska s naklápěcími segmenty mají oproti kluzkým ložiskům s pevnou geometrií několik výhod. Hlavní výhodou je bezpochyby vyšší obvodová rychlost čepu hřídele. Ložiska s naklápěcími segmenty mohou pracovat při obvodových rychlostech přes 100 m/s. Zároveň mají vysokou tuhost i tlumení. Nevýhodou je jeich konstrukční složitost. Mezi základní charakteristiky kluzných ložisek patří koeficienty vyjadřující tuhost a tlumení ložiska. Pro jejich výpočet bylo potřeba sestavit komplikované výpočetní modely. Většina dodnes užívaných výpočetních modelů je založena na rovnici sestavené v r. 1886 profesorem Osbournem Reynoldsem. Tento příspěvek je proto soustředěn na vytvoření metodiky modelování těchto ložisek v multibody softwaru.

Byl prezentován princip myosinu na analogii v podobě lodní kotvy. Dále byly zkoumány přechody myosinové hlavičky mezi jednotlivými stavy na základě numerického měření. Omnisměrové bezpilotní letadlo je inspirováno konstrukčním provedením klasických dronů, proto lze použít výraz "omnikoptéra". Omnikoptéra je tedy druh vrtulového letounu, který v tomto případě disponuje osmi rotory. Rotory nejsou natočeny pouze jedním směrem, aby bylo docíleno možného pohybu ve všech osách. V tomto ohledu se liší od klasických kvadrokoptér, které mají všechny rotory umístěny pouze jedním směrem a nemají možnost přímého pohybu do všech stran. Hlavním cílem této práce je vytvoření matematického modelu a řídícího algoritmu, který bude schopen omnikoptéru stabilizovat, případně splnit požadavky na polohovou regulaci. Matematický model je ještě doplněn o 3D virtuální simulaci, která je schopna pracovat v reálném čase. Pro bližší prozkoumání dané problematiky je současně vytvořen model omnikoptéry i klasické kvadrokoptéry a pro oba případy jsou navrženy příslušné řídící algoritmy, které jsou pak otestovány na virtuálních modelech. Práce se zabývá modelováním torzního kmitání hřídelových soustav metodou konečných prvků. Předpokládá se stálý záběr ozubených kol bez ztráty kontaktu. Jsou setaveny dva lineární matematické modely popisující torzní kmity pohonné jednotky p a pohonné jednotky s kontaktem kolo - kolejnice k. Matematické modely jsou využity pro stanovení základních dynamických vlastností pohonu a dále je zkoumán vliv kinematických úchylek v ozubení zubových vazeb na torzní dynamiku pohonu.

Hlavním cílem této práce je představit upravený model využívající dvojité Poissonovo rozdělení a porovnat jeho predikční schopnosti s původním modelem, z článku autorů Marka, Šedivé a Ťoupala (2014) s využitím dat z české Extraligy.

Díky rozmachu výpočetní techniky a internetu je nyní sázení na sportovní utkání jednodušší a rychlejší než bylo dříve. Cílem sázejících je výhra. K té je potřeba vybrat „správné“ sázkové příležitosti, na které se bude sázet. Přístup při výběru sázkových příležitostí je různý. Lidé často spoléhají na svoji intuici či sází na svůj oblíbený tým. Dále lidé sází podle získaných informací, což může být například informace o aktuální formě hráče či týmu, zranění hráče atd. Další možností při výběru sázkových příležitostí je použití statistických a matematických modelů, které rovněž využívají sázkové kanceláře pro stanovení kurzů. V této práci byly modelovány a následně odhadovány výsledky tenisových zápasů na základě Elo rating systému. Tato práce spočívá v modelování turbínové lopatky jako jednorozměrného kontinua. Model je vytvořen pomocí 1D prvků typu nosník, v nichž jsou respektovány tahové, ohybové a krutové deformace. Cílem je sestavit pohybové rovnice a určit vlastní frekvence a vlastní tvary kmitů lopatky v rotujícím poli odstředivých sil. Velká výhoda tohoto modelu oproti modelům, používajícím 3D prvky, je snížení počtů stupňů volnosti systému a tudíž urychlení řešení problému kmitání lopatek a celého turbosoustrojí. Uvažovaný homogenní, izotropní materiál je popsán Youngovým modulem pružnosti v tahu E a modulem pružnosti ve smyku G.

At an application level, this thesis deals with the layout of an accommodation intended for a disabled person. Determining the layout means choosing the position, shape and dimensions of rooms, doors and corridors. It is usually an architect's job but the complexity is such that it is very unlikely that he succeeds in optimally fulfilling all the constraints: first, there are architectural constraints: no room overlapping, sufficient width for the corridors, accessibility to and from any point, mandatory positioning of some rooms on some areas (e.g. water supply and outlet) … Then, there are constraints imposed by disabilities: enlarged corridors (wheelchairs), mandatory daily amount of efforts (fight against aging), reducing the number of steps (severe asthma), moving a room away from shared walls (deafness)... Finally, there are the wishes expressed by the future occupant, such as minimizing some journeys, maximizing the distance between two rooms or fixing a room's orientation. From a formal point of view, our work has consisted, firstly, in developing mathematical models and algorithmic methods to deal with all these constraints and, secondly, in realizing software prototypes applying these concepts. The tools we propose aim either at optimizing a layout previously designed by an architect or at synthesising a layout without any initial suggestions from the architect. Synthesis has been tackled as bin-packing-type problem (known to be NP-hard) but with additional constraints: the objects to be placed (the rooms) have variable sizes and they are submitted to functional constraints. The resolution is based on a first, initially quadratic and then linearized, mixed integer mathematical model. It has been successfully applied to position and dimension the rooms of an accommodation, to determine corridors allowing a full accessibility to all the rooms and to take into account a number of constraints coming from the disabilities of the future occupant. A second mathematical model has been formulated for the positioning of the doors and, finally, a heuristic method has been designed to assign the space used by useless corridors to adjacent rooms. The whole process has been embedded in a fully operational software. The second set of contributions is about the optimization of an existing layout. This task has been tackled through an iterative process, looping on evaluation and modification (improvement) of an accommodation. It has been implemented in four different ways: a metaheuristic (simulated annealing) and three local-search-type methods, which traverse the solution space by using specific definitions of the neighbourhood. This approach has firstly underlined the multicriteria feature of our problem and, secondly, has required the development of many computational geometry algorithms. All this work is integrated in another functional prototype software. To understand the expectations of the scientific, social and professional worlds, this project has implied to take part to various manifestations which were national or regional, in the computer science domain or in others, scientific or non-scientific, organised by various political or non-political organisations working in the field of disabilities and accessibility. This phase has resulted in many reports which have directly fed into the bibliography of this thesis., Le volet applicatif de cette thèse porte sur l'agencement d'un logement destiné à une personne en situation de handicap. L'agencement désigne le choix de la position, de la forme et des dimensions des pièces, des portes et des couloirs. L'agencement est généralement élaboré par un architecte, dans le respect d'un nombre si élevé de contraintes qu'il lui est difficile de parvenir qu'il parvienne à toutes les satisfaire : il y a d'abord des contraintes architecturales évidentes : non recouvrement des pièces, largeur suffisante des couloirs, accessibilité à tout point du lieu à partir de tout autre point, nécessité de placer certaines pièces sur des arrivées ou évacuations … Il y a ensuite les contraintes imposées par le handicap : largeur accrue des couloirs (déplacement en fauteuil), nécessité d'assurer un effort quotidien minimum (lutte contre le vieillissement), limitation des escaliers (asthme sévère), éloignement d'une pièce des murs mitoyens (surdité) .... Et il y a finalement les souhaits exprimés par le futur occupant, par exemple minimiser certains trajets, maximiser l’éloignement entre deux pièces ou imposer l’orientation d’une pièce. D’un point de vue formel, notre travail a consisté à développer d'une part des modèles mathématiques et des méthodes algorithmiques capables de gérer ces contraintes et d'autre part des prototypes logiciels opérationnels. Les méthodes élaborées relèvent de deux approches : l'optimisation d'un agencement conçu par l'architecte et la synthèse d'un agencement sans suggestion initiale de l'architecte. La synthèse d'un plan a été abordée comme un problème de type « bin-packing » (réputé NP-difficile) avec des contraintes additionnelles : les objets à placer - les pièces - ont des tailles variables et ils sont soumis à des contraintes fonctionnelles. La méthode de résolution s'appuie sur un premier modèle mathématique, qui prend la forme d’un programme quadratique (linéarisé par la suite) en variables mixtes. Elle a été appliquée avec succès pour placer les pièces d'un logement, pour les dimensionner, pour déterminer les couloirs assurant une complète accessibilité au logement et pour prendre en compte certaines contraintes imposées par le handicap du futur occupant. Un deuxième modèle mathématique a été élaboré pour le placement des portes et une heuristique a enfin été développée pour affecter l'espace occupé par les couloirs non indispensables aux pièces avoisinantes. La totalité de cette démarche a été programmée dans un prototype logiciel pleinement opérationnel. Le deuxième ensemble de contributions concerne l'optimisation d'un agencement existant. Cette optimisation a été conçue comme un processus itératif enchaînant évaluation et modification (amélioration) d'un agencement. Il est décliné de quatre manières : une métaheuristique de type « recuit simulé » et trois méthodes de type « recherche locale », qui explorent l’espace des solutions en utilisant des voisinages spécialement définis. Cette approche a d'une part permis d’appréhender le caractère multicritère de cette problématique et a d'autre part exigé la mise en œuvre de nombreux algorithmes géométriques. Ces travaux sont implantés dans un deuxième prototype logiciel. Ce projet a nécessité la participation à de nombreuses manifestations au-delà du domaine de l’informatique, nationales et régionales, scientifiques et non-scientifiques, organisées par différents organismes politiques et associatifs travaillant sur la problématique du handicap et de l’accessibilité, afin de bien appréhender les attentes du monde scientifique et socioprofessionnel. A doctoral thesis deals with the application of Total Least Squares (TLS) techniques for parameters estimation of mathematical models for various geodetic problems. Total Least Squares is a relatively new technique of parameters model estimation. The first research in the field of mathematics dating from the early eighties and the first applications appeared in various nongeodetic disciplines. Studies on possibility of applications in the parameters estimation of geodetic models are of later date, there are about ten years ago (Kupferer, 2005 Schaffrin, 2006). Presentamos en este artículo algunos tópicos referidos a la paradoja de Aquiles. Se resuelve primero el problema desde un punto de vista cinemático, luego se enuncia la paradoja en los términos en que lo hizo Zenón pero con alguna precisión técnica, a continuación se retoma esta descripción y se hace una narración matemática de la misma que nos termina enfrentando con las series geométricas. Se da una explicación breve sobre la idea de sucesión de sumas parciales como función y de la operación de límite. Se aplican estos resultados a interpretar la carrera manteniendo el punto de vista de Zenón. Este tipo de problema de cierta complejidad y que genera interesantes polémicas y diversidad de interpretaciones puede ser administrado por el docente de por lo menos dos modos: uno como elemento disparador (tópico generativo) al comienzo de la presentación de un tema y otro como un trabajo de integración y resignificación de conocimientos a posteriori. Respecto a la implementación podemos resumir que este problema puede ser presentado de distintos modos, como tarea o proyecto de investigación, como taller, como exposición inaugural, etc., In this article, some topics related to the Achilles paradox are presented. First, the problem is solved from a kinematic point of view. Second, the paradox is stated as Zeno did it but with some technical accuracy. Liepājas Universitātes (LiepU) Matemātikas un informātikas katedra sagatavo gan eksakto priekšmetu speciālistus, gan skolotājus, gan cilvēkus, kuri turpmāk iecerējuši apgūt inženierzinības vai pievērsties zinātnisko pētījumu jomai. Tas ir ilgtermiņa ieguldījums Latvijas attīstībai, jo nevienam nav noslēpums, ka, par spīti šī brīža kritiskajai situācijai, mums trūkst eksakto priekšmetu speciālistu gan skolās, gan inženierzinībās. Tāpat ilgtermiņa attīstība nav iedomājama bez zinātnes līdzdalības. 2007. gadā profesora J.Rimšāna vadībā tika nodibināts Matemātikas Zinātņu un Informācijas Tehnoloģiju institūts (MZITI). Domājot par jaunās paaudzes ieinteresēšanu matemātikas un fizikas jomā, prof. J.Rimšāna vadībā kopš 2006.gada LiepU tiek organizētas ikmēneša Jauno Zinātnieku skolas nodarbības. Jau trīs gadus rudenī un pavasarī Liepājas pilsētas un rajona skolēniem tiek organizēta netradicionāla veida atklāta tipa matemātikas olimpiāde.
