Background: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is a common procedure for managing multi-vessel coronary artery disease to revascularize the myocardium. Among the various conduits used, the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) is preferred due to its better long-term patency rate. However, CABG procedures involving LIMA may result in rare but serious complications, such as avulsion of the LIMA post-CABG, which leads to disruption of blood flow to the myocardium and the development of fatal cardiac tamponade. Case presentation: We hereby present a unique case of spontaneous avulsion of a LIMA graft to the left anterior descending artery (LAD) away from the site of anastomosis, twenty-four hours following CABG surgery in a 67-year-old male patient. Emergency re-exploration and repair of the LIMA with interposition vein graft were performed and resulted in successful stabilization of the patient's critical condition. However, this was followed by a complicated recovery period involving atrial fibrillation, acute kidney injury, and wound infection. Conclusion: Avulsion of LIMA graft following CABG is rare, yet a fatal complication that requires high clinical suspicion and prompt management. Avulsion has been reported a few times in literature following both minimal invasive and conventional CABG. Social inequity is a global problem that often acutely materialises in cities, where people with lower incomes have reduced access to open spaces. This article examines how walkable access to open spaces mediated by urban morphology and topography differs for people with contrasting income profiles. Taking Lima as a case study, the spatial analysis adapted GIS tools to consider the steep slopes of informal settlements. The combined mapping and measuring of open space catchments and urban fabric permeabilities shows significant spatial inequities between low- and high-income residents that could not have been captured through traditional spatial analytical methods. Lima colonial siguió una distribución espacial tipo damero de espacios públicos y privados. Sin embargo, a medida que creció la ciudad, la transgresión a la cuadricula fue la norma por parte de los vecinos, sobre todo en la periferia de la ciudad, por lo que las autoridades, a través de las denuncias de los perjudicados, corregían, obligando a los infractores a deshacer lo hecho. Paralelamente, espacios con significados reconocidos y asumidos por la población limeña colonial surgieron, que las autoridades mantuvieron para gloria y disfrute de todos. El objetivo es debelar a través de algunos ejemplos el mantenimiento o no de la traza de la ciudad y la perspectiva de paisajes identitarios asumidos por los limeños y sus autoridades.

From a historical and cultural perspective, Lima, the capital of Peru, is a city of many contrasts whose past is inextricably intertwined with its present and future prosperity. Lima, like all Latin American cities, has a rich history that can be forgotten if its citizens fail to cherish it. Therefore, the literary works of different Peruvian authors and especially those of Raúl Porras Barrenechea are especially relevant: they are full of nostalgia, yet at the same time take a critical approach to the city’s history, which helps us contemplate Lima’s place in the world and the best course for its future development as the city is constantly transforming. Lima, a city of creole and mestizo origins, is a space that invites us to reflect on how it seeks to live up to its traditions and cultural legacy. From a contemporary city dweller’s point of view, citizens and authorities should work together to achieve greater prosperity and improve the quality of life, which is important for the future of not only Lima, but also Peru and Latin America.

En el presente artículo se explora el impacto del auge gastronómico en los procesos de gentrificación en Lima, Perú, durante las últimas dos décadas. Se trata de una investigación etnográfica realizada en 2012, 2014 y 2016, en la urbanización de Santa Cruz, que solía ser un barrio obrero ubicado en el distrito Miraflores. El enfoque central es el análisis de las narrativas personales de cambio y pertenencia de las personas residentes, trabajadoras y visitantes de la zona, apoyado en la práctica fotográfica. Se basa en la experiencia de Carlos, un joven actor que después de vivir varios años en Londres regresa al Perú para emprender y tomando ventaja de los precios competitivos en Santa Cruz, abre una panadería gourmet en el barrio. Tomando la idea de “imaginación cosmopolita”, se muestran las distintas formas en las que Carlos recontextualiza su experiencia en Londres en la especificidad de La Mar, negociando los límites, significados y valores de los lugares, personas y prácticas culturales que surgen al habitar este espacio de cambio. Finalmente, la panadería de Carlos se transforma en un punto de encuentro para vincular o negociar distintas estrategias y experiencias de pertenencia a la zona, materializando dinámicas de poder que emergen dentro y fuera del negocio, marcando así la mercantilización de Santa Cruz.

A new species from the Malesherbia sect. Malesherbia is described for the department of Lima, Peru. Malesherbia anxia is found in arid areas of the valley of the Chancay River (Huaral, Lima), on the western slope of the Andes, between 1,580 to 2,600 m. This species has morphological affinities with M. weberbaueri and M. splendens. A key for the identification of other related species is presented, accompanied by a comparative table of diagnostic morphological characters. With this taxonomic novelty, the number of Malesherbia species in Peru rises to 14, of which 12 are endemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article delves into young adults’ perceptions in Lima regarding urban modernization and its relationship with architectural styles and facades. Through semi-structured interviews and visual aids, the study examines how young adults perceive modernity in their urban environment and the discrepancies between their interpretations and conventional notions promoted by developers. Findings reveal a divergence between the envisioned improvements by modernists and the scepticism expressed by young adults, raising questions about the essence of modernization and its implications for Lima. This article explores the impact of the gastronomic boom on gentrification processes in Lima, Peru, during the last two decades. It is an ethnographic study conducted in 2012, 2014, and 2016 in the Santa Cruz housing development, which used to be a working-class neighborhood located in the Miraflores district. The central focus is the analysis of the personal narratives of change and belonging of residents, workers, and visitors, supported by photographic practice. In particular, it is based on the experience of Carlos, a young actor who after living several years in London returns to Peru to start a business and, taking advantage of competitive prices in Santa Cruz, opens a gourmet bakery in the neighborhood. Using the notion of “cosmopolitan imagination,” we show the different ways in which Carlos recontextualizes his experience in London in the specificity of La Mar, negotiating the limits, meanings and values of the places, people, and cultural practices that arise from inhabiting this space of change. Ultimately, Carlos’s bakery becomes a meeting point for linking or negotiating different strategies and experiences of belonging to the area, materializing power dynamics that emerge inside and outside the business, thus shaping the commodification of Santa Cruz. Urban areas are experiencing rapid growth, accompanied by significant disorder in Lima Metropolitan area and many other cities in South America. Due to decades of uncontrolled construction practices, it is imperative to identify and better understand the types of informalities prevalent in these recent urban areas. Addressing this lack of information is crucial for implementing appropriate countermeasures and developing new policies that benefit the communities residing in such areas. It is worth noting that understanding disaster risk aligns with the first priority of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. In this study, we propose the use of radar satellite imagery recorded by the Sentinel-1 constellation since 2017 to identify clusters of urban growth in Lima Metropolitan area. Then, the informal urban clusters can be depicted by visual inspection of the last recorded high-resolution optical image. With good spatial and temporal resolution, we identified 25 clusters informal areas. Among our findings, we observed that several of these clusters are situated in landfills comprised of construction and other waste, increasing their vulnerability to debris flow, landslides, and earthquakes. Additionally, we noted that some new urban areas mainly consist of temporarily empty houses, highlighting the feasibility of implementing countermeasures, such as relocations, in the early stages of informal occupation. These results underscore the significant contribution of satellite radar imagery in identifying recent informal urban areas.

First released in 2009, Peruvian filmmaker Claudia Llosa's La teta asustada has received "mixed" critical attention. While some accuse Llosa of exotifying Indigenous peoples and traditions, others suggest that the film succeeds in representing the traumatic memory of victims of Peru's Internal Armed Conflict (~1980–2000). Without necessarily disputing either interpretation, this article explores the filmmaker's apparent grappling with questions of coloniality, whiteness, and complicity, particularly among Lima's white elite. Analyzing the tense relationship between the film's Indigenous protagonist and her white employer, the essay proposes that La teta asustada offers an important critique of Lima's persistent coloniality, particularly as it relates to limeño responses to rural-to-urban migration and the nation's recent civil war. Durante su estancia en Italia (1919-1923) el escritor, político y filósofo peruano José Carlos Mariátegui conoció a muchos representantes de los movimientos modernos de vanguardia. Sin embargo fue el dramaturgo siciliano Luigi Pirandello quien llamó su atención al punto de ocuparse de él en dos escritos: El caso Pirandello (Variedades, marzo de 1926) y en El ‘freudismo’ en la literatura contemporánea (Variedades, agosto de 1926). El amauta que participó en el célebre Congreso de Liorna (Livorno) en 1921 en el que el ala izquierda del socialismo fundó el partido comunista italiano, conversó varias veces con Pirandello, como recordó durante una entrevista Anna Chiappe, viuda de Mariátegui (Caretas, 1969). El «arte de una decadencia, arte de una disolución; pero arte vigoroso y original el de Pirandello[…]La traducción artística más fiel y más potente del drama del “alma desencantada»(Mariátegui, 1926), fue el arte que más debatió y estudió el Amauta al punto de llegar a afirmar que el dramaturgo siciliano habría anticipado al futurista Filippo Marinetti «este escritor sexagenario y siciliano resulta, en verdad, mucho más moderno que el explosivo y futurista Marinetti y toda su escuela» (Mariátegui, 1926). A partir del análisis de los escritos sobre Pirandello realizados por Mariátegui intentaré explorar las huellas del pensamiento del siciliano en las obras del escritor, filósofo y político peruano.

El texto aborda aspectos socioeconómicos relacionados con la ciudad de Lima, durante la República Temprana (1821-1860). Lo que, a partir del estudio sociodemográfico del distrito primero del censo municipal de Lima de 1831, se realiza una caracterización socioespacial durante la tercera década del siglo XIX, un periodo de fuerte inestabilidad socioeconómica, que ofrece una imagen sobre el cambio a través del análisis diacrónico del barrio tercero entre 1824 y 1831. Es decir, de una sola unidad administrativa básica del registro estadístico limeño. Los resultados de ambos muestran que la nueva red de subalternos de la administración local de la República Temprana mantuvo la tradición de conteo poblacional, durante el periodo tardo virreinal con relativa eficiencia, además de generar registros que corroboran las tendencias demográficas y espaciales observadas en censos más completos durante el mismo periodo.

Left internal mammary artery (LIMA) to bypass left anterior descending artery has demonstrated to improve survival in multivessel coronary artery disease, but its routine angiography during index coronary angiography is seldom performed as LIMA is rarely diseased.A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was conducted using PubMed and Cochrane databases selecting the studies reporting prevalence of LIMA disease among patients undergoing coronary angiography and considered for CABG. Meta-regression analysis was performed to evaluate the prevalence of LIMA disease and the relative predictive value of canonical risk factors. After scrimmage, 9 studies for a total of 1365 patients were included.LIMA disease prevalence was 1.8 % (95 % CI; 1.2 %-2.8 %) in the entire cohort, whereas we reported a rate of subclavian artery disease of 7.6 % (95 % CI, 6–9.9 %). At univariate meta-regression analysis, only age (p = 0.031) and smoking habit (p = 0.035) were directly correlated with LIMA disease.In conclusion, LIMA angiographic assessment might be considered in selected patients that could undergo CABG, during index coronary angiography. However, prospective studies are needed to better evaluate the safety of routine selective LIMA angiography prior to CABG and whether the practice is associated with improved clinical outcomes among those individuals.

By 2050, 68% of the global population will reside in cities, driving rapid urban growth and intensifying demand for scarce ecological resources within the Water-Food-Energy nexus. Social metabolism quantifies energy and material transformations with a social focus, building upon urban metabolism. Its application in resource-scarce informal settlements (ISs) has the potential to enhance their sustainability significantly. As community dynamics evolve, acknowledging society as a dynamic variable within this framework becomes increasingly relevant. Our study employs the Multi-Scale Integrated Analysis of Societal and Ecosystem Metabolism (MuSIASEM) framework, focusing on key variables: human activity, land use, money, energy, water, waste, and food. Based on surveys, interviews, GIS datasets, and statistical information, the study investigates the Ciudad de Gosen IS in Lima, Peru. The results show that, in the socio-economic dimension, 43% of the time employed is directed to the unpaid work sector. Notably, 71% of women and 29% of men spend a mean of 44 h/week/person caring for children or elderly. In the paid work sector, there are gender asymmetries; men have a salary 54% higher than women. In the ecological dimension, more than 78% of the homes have access to basic services, unlike other informal settlements in Latin America and Africa.

Mediante la recuperación del artículo de prensa Puno y la hegemonía cultural del Titikaka de Gamaliel Churata, se busca reconstruir un episodio histórico acerca de la tensión política entre Lima y el sur peruano en la década de 1960. A esto se suman varios artículos de prensa de otros autores que tratan el tema desde diferentes ópticas. El presente estudio propone la vigencia de aquellos hechos que, a pesar de haber sucedido hace medio siglo, expresan una cruenta actualidad, además de exponer el pensamiento de Gamaliel Churata no estudiados por aquellos años.

El artículo cuestiona el diseño de las unidades de vivienda promovido por el sector inmobiliario en la ciudad de Lima durante la segunda década del s. xxi. Este estudio comparativo entre doce viviendas toma como punto de partida el concepto de casa sin género que fue planteado por Zaida Muxí, referente fundamental para reconocer —desde una perspectiva feminista— cómo la distribución y segregación espacial de una vivienda contribuye a delimitar jerarquías entre sus habitantes. Se examinan criterios de neutralidad y flexibilidad espacial, las características de los espacios de almacenamiento, así como las relaciones funcionales vinculadas por los espacios de conexión en el diseño de estas viviendas. Se concluye que existe un modelo de vivienda inmobiliario que se repite actualmente, por lo que se establece una serie de interrogantes en relación al diseño de este tipo de vivienda en búsqueda de una equidad en el habitar contemporáneo.

Among the studies on private libraries in Peru in the Modern Age, there are no studies focusing on the circulation of books by Portuguese authors or printed in Portugal. This article therefore proposes a comparative approach to the subject, considering two topics: the complexity of the circulation of books between Lis- bon, Seville and Lima; and the presence of books by Portuguese authors in Peru printed in Lisbon. For this purpose, we will use general inventories of booksellers and records of books in the fleets, as well as primary sources: inventories of goods in the context of proceedings of the Court of the Holy Office and private epistolary writings of Portuguese merchants. We will also use Portuguese guides to works printed in Portugal in the 16th and 17th centuries and the catalog of existing books in the National Library of Portugal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The presence of a significant left subclavian artery stenosis may occasionally lead to blood flow reversal through a LIMA-to-coronary artery bypass graft during left arm exertion; with "stealing" of myocardial blood supply. The aim of this study was to review our experience with carotid-subclavian bypass in patients with post-CABG coronary-subclavian steal syndrome. Methods: This is a retrospective review of all patients who underwent carotid-subclavian bypass grafting for post-CABG coronary-subclavian steal syndrome at Mainz University Hospital between 2006 and 2015. Cases were identified in our institutional database, and data were retrieved from surgical records, imaging studies, and follow-up records. Results: Nine patients (all males, mean age of 69.1 years) underwent surgical treatment for post-CABG coronary-subclavian steal syndrome. Medium interval between original CABG and carotid-subclavian bypass grafting was 86.1 months. There were no perioperative deaths, strokes or myocardial infarctions. At a mean follow-up period of 79.9 months, all patients remained asymptomatic and all carotid-subclavian bypass grafts remained patent. One patient required stenting of a common carotid artery stenosis proximal to the graft anastomosis site, and coronary artery stenting was required in four patients in regions other than those supplied by the patent LIMA graft. Conclusion: Carotid-subclavian bypass surgery is a safe treatment option even in patients with multivessel disease and severe comorbidities and should be taken into consideration in patients who are deemed fit for surgery and those who would benefit from the excellent long-term patency rates. This paper presents the results of a quasi-experimental study using information collected through a survey conducted in peri-urban areas of metropolitan Lima and applied to households residing close to and on both sides of the geographic boundary of piped water supply. We find that access to piped water was associated with a reduction in the probability of contracting COVID-19. Furthermore, the results suggest that a minimum consumption level must be guaranteed to lower infection probability. These results highlight the need for investment in infrastructure to close access gaps and the importance of ensuring quality and affordable services for the population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article addresses the bidirectional relationship between residential micro-segregation, in the form of built barriers to mobility, and social capital. I engage with two bodies of the literature. On the one hand, I critique a widespread top-down model of residential segregation. This model suggests that higher-status groups drive segregation through direct (e.g., secluded neighbourhoods) and indirect (e.g., by funnelling housing demand) measures. On the other hand, I provide evidence of the bounding effects of segregation on social capital. While some scholars suggest residential homogeneity favours social capital, others argue that benefits occur within privileged neighbourhoods. The effects of segregation on social capital are less clear at lower scales and in highly unequal Global South cities. My argument is twofold. First, I uncover the dynamics of segregation below the neighbourhood scale. I use the notion of horizontal micro-segregation to identify the social and spatial conditions associated with a higher concentration of street-level segregating infrastructure. My methodological approach draws on data for all residential blocks in Lima, Peru (N = 99,685). I find that suburban-inspired urban design is positively associated with micro-segregating infrastructure, upon controlling for other factors such as socioeconomic status, density, and urbanization age of each block. Second, I provide evidence of the bounding effects of segregation on social capital. Using ten waves of the Lima Cómo Vamos survey (2010–2019), I show that micro-segregating infrastructure is associated with higher trust in neighbours and lower civic engagement. These findings indicate that exposure to segregation affects social capital within and across secluded neighbourhoods throughout the socioeconomic spectrum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although coronary artery disease is a well recognized clinical entity and very common in India, there is paucity of literature on the patients undergoing surgical revascularization in the form of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) at a young age (<40 years). The aim of this study is to analyze the details of patients with premature coronary artery disease (PCAD) who underwent CABG at a tertiary care cardiac center in India. A retrospective observational study was conducted for the present study. All patients aged <40 years with Premature Coronary artery disease (PCAD) were registered in the PCAD Registry at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bangalore. The electronic database of case records of all patients with PCAD who underwent CABG at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, between April 2018 and March 2019 was analyzed. Patients were selected based on the database of PCAD registry at our institute under CTRI regulation of India (registration number CTRI/2018/03/012544), All patients were diagnosed with Coronary angiogram (CAG) and required further treatment in the form of CABG. Binary logistic regression was used to test the hypothesis (n= 100) cases, out of which LIMA was grafted in 84 cases (n=84), (odd ratio 3.55); of which LIMA to LAD was grafted in 81 cases (n=81); LIMA to RIMA –OM1 was grafted in 2 cases (n=2), and LIMA - Radial - Y was grafted in 1 case (n=1). Off - pump CABG (OPCAB) was done in 79 cases (79%) and the remaining cases were operated On - pump. Most common conduits that were used for grafting in CABG were LIMA (84%); SVG (82%), RIMA (9%) and radial artery (1%). Mean Ejection Fraction was 51.28%, with Standard Deviation (SD) of 5.80. Carotid artery stenosis (> 50%narrowing of the internal carotid artery) was seen in 11% of the cases. Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) was seen in 4% of cases (odds 1.18). Mortality rate (CFR) was negatively correlated in the younger population; deaths were seen in only 2 cases (n =2). The extent of CABG characteristics was positively correlated and statistically significant (p=0.001). In conclusion, Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk is more common in resource-poor and developing countries. Considering all the research findings, the present study concludes that CABG surgery can be treated with comparable components for the management of patients diagnosed to be suffering from Coronary artery disease below the age of 40 years. Relative long-term survival rate after CABG surgery, regardless of gender needs to be assessed for over a period of time at the population level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Este artículo expone el contexto histórico de la práctica del dibujo en Lima en el periodo virreinal. La ausencia de obras de este tipo ha despertado poco interés entre los estudiosos del tema. Pero la apertura del archivo de la Provincia Dominicana de San Juan Bautista en el Perú ha proporcionado nuevas fuentes para el estudio de los dos dibujos del fraile Gregorio Monel. El descubrimiento de estos frontispicios firmados y fechados nos permite conocer la práctica artística de principios del siglo XVIII.

Tras la explosión cofradiera en la Ciudad de los Reyes entraron en funcionamiento corporaciones de españoles, criollos, negros e indios. Las que agruparon a estos últimos se organizaron a ejemplo de los primeros y ofrecieron a su grupo social una manera de asociarse, de entender el culto católico y de asegurarse materialmente ante la enfermedad y la muerte. Así, la cofradía de indios de Consolación del convento de la Merced de Lima reunió a un buen número de naturales, sin distinguirlos en razón a su género. Sin embargo, sí que hubo diferenciación, relegando nominativamente a las cofradas al espacio de culto. En la práctica, con su propia estructura, estas mujeres acabaron por ocupar un espacio dentro de la cofradía dedicándose a la atención de los cofrades.

El trabajo ambulante es una de las fuentes de ingreso más comunes para las personas en situación de pobreza en economías mayoritariamente informales. Tal trabajo las expone a una serie de barreras económicas, sociales y también legales. En la presente investigación, hemos analizado las disposiciones jurídicas de ocho distritos de Lima Metropolitana para determinar cómo las normas regulan el trabajo, el uso del espacio, la higiene y el tiempo de los trabajadores ambulantes en esta ciudad. De acuerdo con nuestra investigación, las ordenanzas municipales de Lima Metropolitana señalan al trabajador ambulante como otro racializado que debe ser controlado en el espacio público. In the present case report, we describe the management of severe coronary artery disease in a patient with Glanzmann thrombasthenia. To the best of our knowledge, there are no established guidelines for revascularization in this setting, and we pose novel discussion points regarding the nuanced care of this patient. Este artículo analiza, a partir de las cláusulas dispositivas de los testamentos y los autos de bienes de difuntos, los vínculos, y la memoria, que los portugueses integrados en Lima conservaron de la tierra de origen, y explica, a continuación, el proceso que siguieron los deudos portugueses, ante la Casa de la Contratación de Sevilla, para el recojo de la herencia. Como resultado se obtuvo que el 27,64% de los casos conocidos nombró herederos en Portugal, y que, de este porcentaje, solo la quinta parte de los deudos pudo cobrar el íntegro de la herencia. El resto se vio perjudicado, en la sentencia, con la confiscación total o parcial de los bienes, bajo el argumento de que tales bienes procedían de extranjeros. Pero, en realidad, las alicaídas arcas de la Corona justificaron estas confiscaciones.

A mediados de 1960, la presencia de arquitectos en oficinas del Estado ayudó a crear políticas de vivienda social para hacer frente a los problemas urbanos y a las precarias condiciones de vida de muchas personas, evidenciadas en el censo de 1940. La primera etapa de la Residencial San Felipe, diseñada por Enrique Ciriani, introdujo la tipología de torre, dando inicio a una nueva concepción de vivienda en altura. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo evidenciar la metodología proyectual racionalista basada en los principios de abstracción en las torres de San Felipe, así como los mecanismos de reproductibilidad y modulación, siendo Le Corbusier su mayor influencia. Para ello se realiza un estudio formal y analítico basado en la descomposición del edificio mediante procesos secuenciales. Los resultados evidencian que el criterio abstracto y racionalista de la composición propone una obra de arte total, en donde espacio, construcción, detalles y economía son los elementos basilares del diseño.

El objetivo central fue determinar la acción del tecnoestrés en el desgaste académico (DA) en 250 estudiantes de un Instituto Tecnológico de Lima, Perú. Investigación aplicada, de enfoque cuantitativo, no experimental, transversal, correlacional causal, el método fue el hipotético – deductivo. Se utilizó la escala RED – tecnoestrés y para el desgaste académico el Maslach Burnout Inventory (versiones revisadas y diseñadas para universitarios). Mediante regresión logística ordinal se demostró que existe dependencia entre el tecnoestrés y el desgaste académico (Nagelkerke=0.389) hasta un 38.9%; se confirmaron los objetivos e hipótesis específicas según coeficiente de Nagelkerke (0.387; 0.284; 0.214; 0.189; 0.324). Las dimensiones que afectan en mayor proporción a la población estudiantil que se vinculan con el tecnoestrés estaban el escepticismo, la adicción y la fatiga, y en menor medida la ansiedad y la ineficiencia. Se precisaría una reforma curricular para desarrollar habilidades blandas, inteligencia emocional y liderazgo transformacional para el trabajo colaborativo y en equipo. Asimismo, se sugiere mayor compromiso organizacional para priorizar la carga académica necesaria e implementar intervenciones de soporte emocional y de acompañamiento socioafectivo.

El artículo recupera la presencia del escritor Gamaliel Churata en Lima, conocida como la “Ciudad de los Reyes” por su fuerte identidad colonial, durante el periodo de 1965 a 1969. A la vez se enfoca en su desconocida participación en los medios impresos del magnate pesquero Luis Banchero Rossi, en el grupo empresarial Editoriales Unidas Sociedad Anónima. Las revistas Mundo Pesquero y Mundo Agropecuario tuvieron una influencia estratégica en los sectores políticos e inversores de la etapa previa a la Reforma Agraria del Perú, proponiendo un tipo de desarrollo alimenticio industrial en constante tensión con las bondades naturales orgánicas del Perú. En este marco, Gamaliel Churata siguió propugnando la revitalización de las culturas aymara y quechua con una comprensión de la naturaleza desde una ontología andina. Los artículos recuperados muestran su faceta poco visitada como cronista en diferentes sectores rurales siempre augurando la reconstitución del Tawantinsuyo. Al mismo tiempo de mirar el pasado, mantenía una constante actualización en lo más avanzado de la ciencia genética animal que se desarrollaba por aquel entonces.

Se publican dos artículos recuperados de Gamaliel Churata de su etapa en Lima, cuando fue cronista y redactor de dos revistas especializadas, Mundo Pesquero y Mundo Agropecuario, entre 1966 y 1968. What happens once people have electricity has received far less analytical and policy attention than the provision of the infrastructure itself. For low-income settlements that have gained a connection to the grid, energy access challenges can still prevail, keeping many inhabitants in energy poverty. This paper analyses energy practices in three low-income neighbourhoods in Lima, Peru, with particular attention to inhabitants' responses in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. In doing so, it seeks to draw lessons for energy policy and planning to enhance energy resilience in the transition towards more just and sustainable futures. Building on energy resilience scholarship and drawing links with justice debates, this paper discusses three community coping strategies: (1) fuel stacking; (2) collective practices and the shared economy; and (3) material and spatial changes. Given its performative functions and polysemic nature, friendship was constantly debated within the multiple political and legal sites of the Spanish Empire. This article focuses on the case of the Conde de Castellar, the viceroy of Peru (1674–1678), who was removed from office after being accused of excessive distribution of offices to his favors. The conde's case demonstrates that friendship was both a widely accepted aspect of political life and a useful category in delegitimizing opponents. This essay focuses especially on the conflict over the conde's social relationships and their amical character (1678–1681) as he was accused of manipulating witnesses and judges to help him escape his end-of-tenure judicial review with little punishment. Exploring manuscript records held at the Archivo General de Indias, this study reconstructs the practices and meanings of friendship with the goal of depicting the processes by which personal friendships were transformed into social and legal facts. La aloja enfriada en nieve era una bebida popular desde el siglo XVII en la capital del virreinato del Perú y sus ingresos estuvieron ligados alternativamente al cabildo para el mantenimiento de la Alameda, un sitio de esparcimiento limeño, y después a la Hacienda Real. Los establecimientos que las vendían eran conocidos como alojerías donde la aloja podía venderse con o sin hielo. Si se vendía con hielo, no debía ser derretido en la bebida porque se consideraba perjudicial para la salud. Este producto tuvo alta demanda, sobre todo, en los meses de verano y era ofrecido a las autoridades durante las festividades y recibimiento de personalidades.

The article "Colonial Lima, Black City, 16th-17th Centuries" analyzes the presence of the black population in the city of Lima during the 16th and 17th centuries. It highlights that blacks represented more than 53% of the total population, indicating that it was a society of slaves where their presence was central in domestic economy and day labor. Despite the possibility of a large-scale slave rebellion, the State and the Church implemented strategies to escape social tensions, such as marriage and the prevention of cohabitation, as well as physical punishment for rebellious slaves. The restoration period of the water supply system in Lima, Peru, after a scenario earthquake was estimated in this study. To achieve the objective, the probabilistic assessment model for post-earthquake residual capacity of the utility lifeline system initially proposed by Nojima and Sugito (2005) and revised by following related studies was employed. The dataset of water distribution pipelines was provided by Potable Water and Sewer System Service in Lima, Peru (SEDAPAL), and the spatial distribution of ground motion with a moment magnitude of 8.6 was considered as a scenario earthquake in this study. The water disruption was anticipated to continue for approximately one month in certain districts of Lima, Peru. The estimated smallest water supplying ratio was 21.1% in Villa El Salvador after the scenario earthquake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The conjunction of seismic records and site effect parameters can lead to the adequate estimation of seismic indexes in urban areas. In this regard, this study uses the map of soil amplification factors obtained in previous studies and the availability of time history waveforms at different locations throughout Metropolitan Lima and Callao to estimate the geospatial distribution of maximum values of horizontal acceleration after the occurrence of earthquakes. Results for three earthquakes of intermediate magnitude and distinct epicenter locations are publicly available in an online system created within the framework of this study (Amaru Peru) and showed that amplified motions could be mainly observed in the lowlands of populated slopes as well as in the eolian sandy deposits.
