Introduction: Minds Together is a novel online early intervention program developed for carers of a person with depressive or anxiety symptoms. A previous study indicated the feasibility, acceptability and initial trends in efficacy for this support program. Aims: The current study used a parallel RCT design to explore the effect of adding a social support platform to this program on carers' quality of life and perceived social support outcomes. Methods: 127 carers (82% female), living in Australia, were recruited online and randomly allocated to the program alone, or program paired with the social forum. Participants completed surveys at baseline, post and 3-month follow up. Results: Intervention and survey completion were low for this study. Across both groups, 49% completed the program and 20% used the social forum. Similarly, 42 participants completed post-surveys and 43 completed follow up surveys. The overall intervention effect between groups was non-significant for quality of life (p-value = 0.773) and perceived social support (p-value = 0.931). Conclusions: This is the first RCT to evaluate the effects of adding a social support component to an existing support program for carers of a person with depressive or anxiety symptoms. While unable to draw conclusions about the added social support, the study emphasises the urgent need for collaboration between researchers, consumers and sector professionals to address challenges related to missing data in online health intervention research. This study presents the findings of Let's Be Friends (Shaanxi), Trial 2 (LBF2), which is a second test of the school‐based intervention. Let's Be Friends (LBF) is designed to promote social competence and prevent maladaptive behaviour by strengthening the social information processing (SIP) skills of third‐grade children in rural China. A cluster‐matched design with random sampling was used in LBF2. Two rural counties in China were selected by purposive sampling (one is the treatment site, and another is the control site). Nine treatment schools (n = 343) were selected by random sampling. Fifteen control schools (n = 369) were selected by using vector‐norm matching. All children of the third grade, ages 8–10, in the treatment schools received 12 sessions of LBF2 intervention. Skill‐level Activity Scale and the Carolina Child Checklist–Teacher Form were employed to measure children's SIP skills and aggressive behaviour. LBF2 promoted the improvement of study children's SIP skills and effectively improved children's authority acceptance. LBF has the potential to be applied in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

People with disabilities consistently advocate for their right to be self-determined. Decades of research highlight the positive impacts of self-determination intervention on in-school and post-school outcomes of secondary students with disabilities. Increasingly, self-determination interventions are being implemented in inclusive contexts for all students, including students with and without disabilities. To enable implementation with high fidelity, further examination of the supports needed by teachers is required. In this study, the authors examine the impacts of differing intensities of teacher implementation supports (online modules only vs. online modules + coaching) on the initiation of the self-determined learning model of instruction (SDLMI) by schools and teachers and outcomes for students that arise from more intensive implementation when schools and teachers do initiate. Results suggest that intensifying teacher implementation supports has a positive impact on a cascading series of outcomes for schools, teachers, and students. Abstract Background Poly-victimization (PV) not only threatens physical and mental health but also causes a range of social problems. Left-behind children in rural areas are more likely to experience PV problems. However, there have been fewer studies on PV among rural children, and even fewer intervention studies. Objective The difference-in-differences method was employed to analyze the impact of intervention measures, based on the theory of planned behavior, on PV among left-behind children in rural areas. Methods The study subjects were left-behind children from six middle schools in two cities in southern China, who completed the baseline survey from 2020 to 2021. They were divided into a control group and an intervention group, each consisting of 228 cases, based on their schools. Before and after the intervention, the Self-made victimization-related knowledge, attitude, and practice questionnaire, Poly-victimization scale, and Middle school students’ coping style scale were used to evaluate the victimization-related KAP(knowledge, attitude, and practice), victimization occurrence, and coping styles of left-behind children, respectively. Stata 15.0 was used to establish a difference-in-differences regression model to analyze the impact of the intervention measures on poly-victimization and coping styles. However, little is known about which interventions that have been tested in this setting. Aim To scope the literature on interventions targeting patients with dual diagnosis in a general practice setting, the outcomes used, and the findings. Design and setting A scoping review of patients with dual diagnosis in general practice. Methods From a predeveloped search string, we used PubMed (Medline), PsychInfo, and Embase to identify scientific articles on interventions. Studies were excluded if they did not evaluate an intervention, if patients were under 18 years of age, and if not published in English. Duplicates were removed and all articles were initially screened by title and abstract and subsequent fulltext were read by two authors. Conflicts were discussed within the author group. A summative synthesis of the findings was performed to present the results. Results Seven articles were included in the analysis. Most studies investigated integrated care models between behavioural treatment and primary care, and a single study investigated the delivery of Cognitive Behavioral treatment (CBT). Outcomes were changes in mental illness scores and substance or alcohol use, treatment utilization, and implementation of the intervention in question. No studies revealed significant outcomes for patients with dual diagnosis. Conclusion Few intervention studies targeting patients with dual diagnosis exist in general practice. This calls for further investigation of the possibilities of implementing interventions targeting this patient group in general practice.

Background: There is a demand for facilitators who can ease the collaboration within a team or an organization in the implementation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) and who are positioned to build the implementation capacity in an organization. This study aimed to evaluate the results the Building implementation capacity for facilitation (BIC-F) intervention had on the participants' perceived knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy to facilitate implementation and the normalization of a systematic implementation model into their work routines, and its use into their respective organizations. Methods: The BIC-F intervention was delivered to 37 facilitators in six workshops, which focused on teaching participants to apply a systematic implementation model and various facilitation tools and strategies. A longitudinal mixed methods design was used to evaluate the intervention. Data was collected pre- and post-intervention using questionnaires and semistructured interviews grounded on the Normalization Process Theory (NPT). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive (mean, SD) and inferential (paired t-tests) methods. Qualitative data were analyzed using deductive content analysis according to NPT. Results: An increase in the participants' perceived knowledge, skills, and selfefficacy was observed post-intervention. Normalization of the systematic implementation model in the participants' work routines was in an early phase, facilitated by high coherence, however, other NPT mechanisms were not sufficiently activated yet to contribute to full normalization. In the organizations where participants initiated the normalization process, they were still working towards achieving coherence and cognitive participation among relevant stakeholders. Conclusion: The intervention had positive results on the participants' perceived knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy and these recognized the value of a systematic implementation model for their practice. However, further efforts are needed to apply it consistently as a part of their work routines and in the organization. Future interventions should provide long-term support for facilitators, and include methods to transfer training between organizational levels and to overcome contextual barriers. The incidence of PV among children in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group, with the difference being statistically significant (p < 0.01). The net reduction in the incidence of PV among children was 21.20%. After the intervention, the protection rate for preventing PV among children was 73.33%, and the effect index was 3.75. The intervention improved children's coping styles, problem-solving, and help-seeking, while reducing negative coping styles such as avoidance and venting, with the differences being statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Intervention measures based on the theory of planned behavior reduce the occurrence of PV among left-behind children, and the intervention effects on different types of victimization are also different. This article reports on how intervention research based on integrative career counselling enhanced the existential experience of a gifted learner. The participant of this study was a purposively selected gifted 17-year-old girl learner in search of a career that would help her experience meaning, purpose, and hope in and through her career-life. An explanatory (QUALITATIVE-quantitative) research design was used together with qualitative career construction counselling-based methods. A new standardised test was used to generate quantitative data. Savickas' guidelines for analysing career construction-elicited data were implemented to identify themes and subthemes in the outcomes. The intervention helped the participant decide on a career through which she could experience meaning, purpose, and hope in her career-life. Longitudinal research is needed to determine the medium- and long-term influence of the type of intervention discussed here with gifted learners in individual as well as group contexts across the diversity spectrum. Pronunciation instruction studies have taken considerable attention in the field of foreign language teaching and research in recent years. For this systematic review, only the intervention studies indexed in SSCI were included. A literature search up to April 2024 was conducted using the Web of Science and relevant meta-analytic studies. Fifty-five interventions met the eligibility criteria based on the PRISMA 2020. This review is twofold: to examine the effects of English L2 pronunciation instruction and to identify the methodological status of these studies in terms of treatment formulation, design, sampling type/size, treatment duration, and outcome measures. Results showed that pronunciation instruction treatments positively affected L2 users’ pronunciation performance. Regarding research methodology, the studies employed mostly pre- and post-tests, with at least one experimental group having relatively few delayed tests. The most common participant group was undergraduate students with pre-intermediate and intermediate levels. The participants' performance tended to be measured through technological tools in recent years. The suprasegmental features of speech that occurred with greater frequency compared to the mere segmental features. These studies also tended to include native speakers’ ratings in the assessment phase of the instruction. The findings of this study are assumed to provide insights and recommendations for future research studies in L2 pronunciation.

Kecemasan sosial yang tidak ditangani dapat menjadi lebih buruk dan dapat meningkat menjadi gangguan jika tingkat kecemasan semakin tidak rasional dan mengganggu kegiatan sehari-hari. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui apakah internet cognitive behavior therapy mampu mengurangi kecemasan sosial pada dewasa awal. Metode sampling dalam penelitian adalah purposive sampling dengan kriteria partisipan berusia 18-25 tahun, tinggal di Indonesia, memiliki akses internet, telepon pintar dan laptop, memiliki tingkat kecemasan sosial tinggi, dan belum pernah mendapatkan terapi CBT. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 3 orang yang telah memenuhi kriteria dan tinggal di Semarang, Jakarta dan Balikpapan. Kondisi kecemasan sosial diukur menggunakan skala Kecemasan Sosial (=0,9) sebelum dan setelah menjalani program ICBT, serta follow-up selama 7 minggu pasca intervensi ICBT. Hasil analisis statistik penelitian menggunakan Uji Friedman (p=0,97; p>0,5) tidak menunjukkan penurunan signifikan pada tingkat kecemasan sosial.

Purpose: We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis of intervention research studies focused on strengthening the social information-processing (SIP) skills of children. Methods: A systematic search and review process was employed to identify, screen, and summarize research on SIP-guided interventions. Results: The search recovered 183,184 citations published from 1997 to 2022. After screening, 42 articles were retained for a full-text review. Findings from the 15 studies using more rigorous designs [i.e., 8 individual-level randomized control trials (RCTs), 5 cluster-level RCTs, and 2 quasi-experimental studies with statistical controls for selectivity] suggest that SIP-focused interventions produced statistically significant treatment effects on cognitive skills, with mean effect sizes of 0.35 on encoding, 0.13 on hostile attribution bias, 0.13 on goal formulation, 0.16 on response decision, and—more behaviorally—0.37 on aggressive and disruptive comportment. Conclusions: SIP-focused interventions are effective. If widely implemented, they hold the potential to reduce aggressive behavior in childhood. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Fathers contribute to child and family well-being across several domains, and home visiting (HV) programs are an important potential service platform from which to engage fathers and families. To develop insights for improving efforts to engage fathers and mothers in home visiting together, we describe and compare assessment and engagement strategies used by home visitors trained in Dads Matter-HV versus those who were not. Method: This study examines qualitative data collected from 26 home visitors (13 from the intervention group and 13 from the control group) from five agencies in Chicago, IL, who participated in a randomized controlled trial of Dads Matter-HV, an intervention designed to increase fathers' engagement in standard HV programs. Results: As expected, home visitors using Dads Matter-HV described using father-focused assessment and engagement strategies more often than home visitors who were not trained in the intervention. They were also more likely to identify mother-focused assessment and engagement strategies. Conclusions: Home visitors trained in Dads Matter-HV reported more specific assessment and engagement practices with both fathers and mothers. Possible improvements for father assessment and engagement practices in home visiting are explored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teen dating violence (TDV) is a significant public health problem that can have lifelong consequences. Using a longitudinal, cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT), this study examines whether the Dating Matters comprehensive prevention model, implemented in middle school, prevented TDV and negative relationship behaviors and promoted positive relationship behaviors in high school (9th–11th grades), when compared with a standard of care intervention. Dating Matters includes programs for sixth to eighth grade youth and their parents, training for school staff, a youth communications program, and policy and data activities implemented in the community. Self-report survey data were collected from students in 46 middle schools that were randomly assigned to condition within site. Students completed two surveys (fall and spring) in each middle school grade and a single survey in the spring of each high school grade. This study examined self-reported TDV perpetration and victimization, use of negative conflict resolution strategies, and positive relationship skills in the high school follow-up. While varying patterns emerged, latent panel models demonstrated significant program effects for all outcomes. Dating Matters students reported 19% reduced risk for TDV perpetration, 24% reduced risk for TDV victimization, 7% reduced risk for use of negative conflict strategies, and 3% more use of positive relationship skills, on average across time and cohort, than standard of care students. On average, Dating Matters, implemented in middle school, continued to be more effective at reducing TDV perpetration, TDV victimization, and use of negative conflict resolution strategies in high school than an evidence-based comparison program. BackgroundInvesting in the capabilities of adolescents is essential to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which focus on realising adolescent girls and young women’s (AGYW) rights to education, health, bodily autonomy and integrity, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and well-being. Despite significant scientific and programmatic progress in understanding and responding to their unique and intersecting vulnerabilities, AGYW continue to face disproportionate risk of STIs, HIV and early pregnancy. Health promotion and preventative interventions stand to be improved by early and meaningful engagement of AGYW in intervention design and delivery.MethodsThis study employed Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) to co-generate lessons for future school-based SRH programming. The 5-step YPAR process included: (1) youth investigator recruitment; (2) youth investigator training and co-design of YPAR methods; (3) youth investigator-led data collection; (4) collaborative analysis and interpretation; and (5) dissemination.ResultsCollaborative analysis revealed improvements in self-concept and bodily autonomy, understanding and formation of healthy relationships and demand for girl-centred health services and information at school. Additionally, the study highlights YPAR’s positive influence on both the collaborative process and outputs of research. Further, it provides further insight into the quantitative biomedical and socio-behavioural findings of a larger experimental impact evaluation, in which it was nested.ConclusionResults from YPAR methods point to high programme acceptability and practical lessons to inform future school-based SRH programming. The inclusion of adolescent girls in the design, delivery and evaluation of intervention research that affects their lives is an important strategy for improving acceptability, and also has demonstrated value in building their health and social assets. Future recommendations include parental involvement, and employing quantitative measures for better evaluation of youth engagement, leadership and partnerships in the research process.

The objective of this multicenter randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a physical activity intervention for institutionalized people with dementia, individualized by capacity and biography. The intervention group (n = 34; age: mean = 86.09 years; 79.40% female; mean Mini-Mental State Examination value = 18.59) participated in a multicomponent training program, which included daily activities, dancing, gardening, and sports/games, twice weekly for 3 months. The control group (n = 29; age: mean = 86.34 years; 75.90% female; mean Mini-Mental State Examination value = 19.90) received standard care. Feasibility was evaluated by means of focus groups and feedback questionnaires. Functional performance (Short Physical Performance Battery and Timed Up and Go Test), activities of daily living, and gait were outcomes for effectiveness. A high adherence rate (80.46%) and uniformly positive feedback indicate that the piloted training program is feasible. The results show preliminary effectiveness on functional performance (Short Physical Performance Battery mean t0 = 3.15; mean t1 = 4.50; p = .006) and gait (e.g., velocity mean t0 = 46.97; mean t1 = 58.04; p = .007). Purpose: Treatment adherence is a central component of implementation fidelity and key to our understanding of client outcomes. This study examines treatment adherence in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) and four functional outcomes among a sample of adopted youth: sensory integration, self-regulation, and relational and cognitive functioning. Methods: The sample includes 178 youth receiving supportive services from a U.S. adoption service provider. Regression analysis was used to examine clinician adherence to NMT recommendations and child outcomes. Results: Most (61.24%) of the essential or therapeutic treatment recommendations were carried out with majority adherence. A key finding is the predictive relationship between adherence to treatment recommendations and improvement in child outcomes at T2, controlling for all other variables in the model. Conclusions: Findings illustrate the importance of treatment adherence in promoting positive outcomes for children engaged in NMT. Objective To establish a group psychological training program for improving the psychological capital of recruit training squad leaders, and to explore its intervention efficacy for their psychological capital and work engagement. Methods Delphi method was used to construct a psychological training program to improve the psychological capital of recruit training squad leaders. With convenient sampling, 71 recruit training squad leaders were enrolled from April 1 to May 30, 2023, and then randomly divided into experimental group (n=35, 6 times of psychological training, for 2 hours each time, twice a week) and control group (n=36, routine training). Pre-test, post-test and one-month follow-up measurements were conducted using Psychological capital questionnaire(PCQ) and Utrecht work engagement scale(UWES) in both groups. Results ① The expert authority coefficient (Cr) of the 2 rounds of expert consultation was 0.905, the positive coefficient was 100%, and the Kendall coordination coefficient was 0.142 and 0.260 (P < 0.001). The psychological capital group training program had 6 first-level indicators and 24 second-level indicators. ② After the intervention, the group-by-time interaction between the experimental group and the control group showed that the total scores of psychological capital and work engagement were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group (Wald Chi-square=60.341, 101.410; P < 0.001). Conclusion Group training program can significantly improve the psychological capital and enhance work engagement for recruit training squad leadser.

Abstract Background Preventive health checks are assumed to reduce the risk of the development of cardio-metabolic disease in the long term. Although no solid evidence of effect is shown on health checks targeting the general population, studies suggest positive effects if health checks target people or groups identified at risk of disease. The aim of this study is to explore why and how targeted preventive health checks work, for whom they work, and under which circumstances they can be expected to work. Methods The study is designed as a realist synthesis that consists of four phases, each including collection and analysis of empirical data: 1) Literature search of systematic reviews and meta-analysis, 2) Interviews with key-stakeholders, 3) Literature search of qualitative studies and grey literature, and 4) Workshops with key stakeholders and end-users. Through the iterative analysis we identified the interrelationship between contexts, mechanisms, and outcomes to develop a program theory encompassing hypotheses about targeted preventive health checks. Results Based on an iterative analysis of the data material, we developed a final program theory consisting of seven themes; Target group; Recruitment and participation; The encounter between professional and participants; Follow-up activities; Implementation and operation; Shared understanding of the intervention; and Unintended side effects. Overall, the data material showed that targeted preventive health checks need to be accessible, recognizable, and relevant for the participants’ everyday lives as well as meaningful to the professionals involved. The results showed that identifying a target group, that both benefit from attending and have the resources to participate pose a challenge for targeted preventive health check interventions. This challenge illustrates the importance of designing the recruitment and intervention activities according to the target groups particular life situation. Conclusion The results indicate that a one-size-fits-all model of targeted preventive health checks should be abandoned, and that intervention activities and implementation depend on for whom and under which circumstances the intervention is initiated. Based on the results we suggest that future initiatives conduct thorough needs assessment as the basis for decisions about where and how the preventive health checks are implemented.

Abstract Aim This study aims to investigate the effect and methods of cryotherapy in reducing swelling after total knee arthroplasty. Design Systematic review. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, KoreaMed, KERIS and National Science Digital Library for randomized controlled trials on 19 August 2021. This systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA 2009 checklist. Results A total of eight randomized controlled trials were systematically reviewed to determine the effect and methods of cryotherapy on reducing postoperative swelling. The effects were not significantly different in six studies. Application time per cryotherapy session was 10–20 min when using an ice pack and up to 48 h when using an automated device. The duration ranged from 2 days to 1 week or until discharge, and the frequency varied from 2 to 72 times per day.

Background: Psychodrama (PD), supported by extensive global research, is increasingly becoming a vital method for alleviating psychological symptoms and promoting mental wellbeing in diverse populations across China. However, comprehensive evidence based on rigorous interventions is currently lacking. Methods: This article systematically reviews the literature on randomized controlled experimental intervention studies of PD in the Chinese Mainland from 1982 to 2023. Findings: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses framework, this article included seven studies (N = 332, 25 effect sizes). The results demonstrate that PDinterventions have a promotional effect (standardizedmean difference SMD= 0.768, 95% CI [0.591, 0.946]) across different age groups and settings in randomized controlled trial interventions. In accordance with previous literature, we categorized the effect sizes into two major groups: illness reduction (IR) and health promotion (HP). Subgroup analysis based on these two categories revealed consistent findings. In the IR category, the overall effect size was notably significant (SMD = -0.711, 95% CI [-0.976, -0.446]), and in the HP category, the overall effect was also highly significant (SMD= 0.889, 95%CI [0.705, 1.074]). This finding aligns with previous research in other nations, supporting the significant effectiveness of PD as a counselingmethod in alleviating psychological illnesses and promoting mental health within the Chinese context. Conclusion: PD serves not only as a therapeutic tool but also as a preventive and developmental intervention. There is a strong preference for evidence-based child welfare services, however, there are few well-researched programs for families that struggle post-permanence. Following adoption or guardianship, some families experience significant challenges, struggle to find effective programs, and run the risk of family instability. This study described the process used to develop the Adoption and Guardianship Enhanced Support (AGES) intervention and explored: 1) the needs of families participating in the program and 2) how AGES worked with families to address those challenges. This descriptive study utilized quantitative structured assessment data and qualitative data from case records to explore the needs of families and provide context for qualitative, in-depth interviews with families regarding their experiences with the AGES program, presented using thematic analysis. Pre-service structured assessments indicated multiple dimensions of parenting strain, with case record reviews and interviews with families providing a nuanced picture of multiple sources of strain, suggesting the project was reaching the intended audience. Record review and interviews demonstrated strong alignment between needs of families and the support provided by AGES workers. Intended analysis of quantitative post-assessment data was not possible, due to lower enrollment and higher staff turnover than expected, as well as study timeframes. The approach utilized by AGES workers, one that walked alongside families and provided flexible responses to identified needs, showed promise for adoptive and guardianship families. Background and Objectives Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) is a major cause of death in the United States. While effective interventions have been developed to deliver palliative care to nursing home residents with ADRD, little work has identified effective interventions to reach assisted living (AL) residents with dementia. Research Design and Methods One hundred and eighteen AL residents with dementia from 10 different ALs in Florida participated. A pilot study using a cluster randomized trial was conducted, with 6 sites randomized to receive a palliative care educational intervention for staff (N = 23) to deliver care to residents; 4 sites were usual care. The feasibility of the intervention was assessed by examining recruitment, retention, and treatment fidelity at 6 months. Cohen's d statistic was used to calculate facility-level treatment effect sizes on key outcomes (documentation of advance care planning [ACP] discussions, hospice admission, and documentation of pain screening). Results The intervention proved feasible with high ratings of treatment fidelity. The intervention also demonstrated preliminary evidence for efficacy of the intervention, with effect sizes for the treatment group over 0.80 for increases in documentation of ACP discussions compared to the control group. Hospice admissions had a smaller effect size (0.16) and documentation of pain screenings had no effect. Discussion and Implications The pilot results suggest that the intervention shows promise as a resource for educating and empowering AL staff on implementing person-centered palliative care delivery to persons with dementia in AL. Background: Treatment fidelity refers to the degree to which an intervention is implemented as intended. Promoting treatment fidelity is important to achieve a valid comparison in intervention research. However, it is often underreported: few studies detail the use and development of fidelity measures. This study aims to promote the treatment fidelity of a modified version of the Derbyshire Language Scheme (M‐DLS), a manualised intervention for children with language difficulties, by exploring participants' opinions on training and intervention delivery. Results inform development of a checklist and scoring system to monitor and promote treatment fidelity in a comparison trial. Method: Ten student speech and language therapists (SLTs) and two research assistants (RAs) participated in the study. All received training on the M‐DLS, and 10 were video‐recorded completing role‐plays of an M‐DLS session in small groups. Feedback was gathered after training and role‐plays in focus groups and interviews. Feedback was interpreted using the constructs of the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF). A treatment fidelity checklist was then developed using the feedback. The first author and two RAs rated role‐play videos using the checklist to trial it to inform amendments and to promote interrater reliability. Interrater agreement was calculated using Spearman's test of correlation. Results: Participants discussed the importance of having clear materials and time to practise sessions. They suggested amendments to the materials and training to promote treatment fidelity. The checklist and scoring system accounted for participants' suggestions, with amendments detailed in a log. Spearman's correlation results suggested agreement between the raters was strong. Conclusions: Results emphasise the importance of training quality, practice and reflective opportunities and clear materials to promote treatment fidelity. The construction of the checklist and scoring system was described in detail, informing the development of future checklists. After further trialling, the checklist can be used to ensure the M‐DLS is delivered with high treatment fidelity in the comparison trial. What this paper adds: What is already known on this subject: Treatment fidelity is an essential component of intervention effectiveness and efficacy studies, ensuring the intervention is delivered as intended. It is also an essential component of evidence-based clinical practice. However, few research studies report the treatment fidelity process or publish the checklists used, depriving clinicians of useful information for implementation. What this study adds: This study describes in detail the iterative process of treatment fidelity checklist development, engaging those implementing the intervention in development. This ensured clarity and interrater reliability of the checklist. Background: Smart speakers, such as Amazon's Echo and Google's Nest Home, combine natural language processing with a conversational interface to carry out everyday tasks, like playing music and finding information. Easy to use, they are embraced by older adults, including those with limited physical function, vision, or computer literacy. While smart speakers are increasingly used for research purposes (eg, implementing interventions and automatically recording selected research data), information on the advantages and disadvantages of using these devices for studies related to health promotion programs is limited. Objective: This study evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of using smart speakers to deliver a physical activity (PA) program designed to help older adults enhance their physical well-being. Methods: Community-dwelling older adults (n=18) were asked to use a custom smart speaker app to participate in an evidence-based, low-impact PA program for 10 weeks. Collected data, including measures of technology acceptance, interviews, field notes, and device logs, were analyzed using a concurrent mixed analysis approach. Technology acceptance measures were evaluated using time series ANOVAs to examine acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, and intention to adopt smart speaker technology. Device logs provided evidence of interaction with and adoption of the device and the intervention. Interviews and field notes were thematically coded to triangulate the quantitative measures and further expand on factors relating to intervention fidelity. Results: Smart speakers were found to be acceptable for administering a PA program, as participants reported that the devices were highly usable (mean 5.02, SE 0.38) and had strong intentions to continue their use (mean 5.90, SE 0.39). Factors such as the voice-user interface and engagement with the device on everyday tasks were identified as meaningful to acceptability. The feasibility of the devices for research activity, however, was mixed. Despite the participants rating the smart speakers as easy to use (mean 5.55, SE 1.16), functional and technical factors, such as Wi-Fi connectivity and appropriate command phrasing, required the provision of additional support resources to participants and potentially impaired intervention fidelity. Conclusions: Smart speakers present an acceptable and appropriate behavioral intervention technology for PA programs directed at older adults but entail additional requirements for resource planning, technical support, and troubleshooting to ensure their feasibility for the research context and for fidelity of the intervention. In the current rapidly evolving globalized society, traditional lifestyle standards are undergoing profound transformations, leading to increasingly diverse needs and necessitating adaptive living strategies. To address these challenges, the sociomaterial approach offers a valuable perspective. This approach rejects the presumption that the roles of humans, things, and institutions are self-evident; instead, it meticulously examines them as “effects of arrangement” . This study introduces a methodology for intervention research based on the sociomaterial approach, using specific cases. Two studies were conducted to detail the ongoing process of continuous arrangement: an intervention at a “local youth support station”（Study I） and an exploration of two dialogue practices derived from a doctoral dissertation based on Study I （Study II）. The findings revealed that the intervention resulted in complex and diverse changes. Lack of access to healthy foods, sedentary behaviour, and other social environmental factors contribute to disease risk. Yup'ik Alaska Native communities are experiencing lifestyle changes that are likely to affect their cardiometabolic risks. Barrera & Castro's Cultural Adaptation Framework was used to adapt an evidence-based intervention (EBI) originally designed for Latino communities for use in Yup'ik communities. Focus groups and key informant interviews were held in two Yup'ik communities. Major themes included causes of obesity, barriers and facilitators to healthy foods and physical activity, and intervention ideas. The adaptation process was guided by a Community Planning Group of Yup'ik women and included information gathering, preliminary adaptation design, preliminary adaptation tests, and adaptation refinement. Two of the adapted educational modules were pilot tested. Involving community members as co-researchers in cultural adaptation is vital for an EBI to be effective in another population. Small group gatherings led by local lay health workers are culturally appropriate and may be an effective health promotion model in Yup'ik communities. Background: A need was identified for an occupational therapy intervention for stroke survivors in a Danish municipal healthcare setting with emphasis on its ability to transfer and generalise what is learned in occupational therapy to everyday life post therapy. Being a possible candidate, the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach needed to be adapted to the target group and context, and its feasibility needed examination regarding reach, dose, intervention components, fidelity, perceived value, benefits, harms, and potential outcomes. Aim: To adapt the CO-OP to a Danish healthcare setting and present a protocol for examining its feasibility. Material and methods: The Adapting interventions to new contexts (ADAPT) guidance was followed to (1) Assess the rationale for intervention and consider intervention-context fit, (2) Plan and undertake adaptations, and (3) Plan a feasibility study. Results: Intervention materials and procedures were translated and adapted for home-based occupational therapy with people in the subacute phase of stroke. A protocol was developed to examine feasibility aspects. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations were planned and measurements chosen. Conclusions and significance: The planned feasibility study will contribute to further developing and refining the intervention before performing a possible large-scale effectiveness study. Background and Objectives Outdoor falls can negatively affect the independence and well-being of community-dwelling older adults. Although there is some overlap, there are also differences in risk factors for indoor and outdoor falls. There are no existing community-based fall prevention programs that specifically target outdoor fall prevention. To fill this gap, the Stroll Safe program was developed. Research Design and Methods A cluster-randomized controlled trial design was used with randomization at the site level. Participants (N = 86) were aged 60 and older, with a history of an outdoor fall or who had a fear of falling outdoors. Eight naturally occurring retirement community program sites were randomly assigned to the treatment or wait list control group. Outcome measures included the Outdoor Falls Questionnaire, the Falls Behavioral Scale for the Older Person, and the Falls Efficacy Scale-International to examine knowledge of risks, safe strategy use, protective behaviors, and fear of falling. An Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to compare change scores between groups with covariates included for any initial differences between groups. A linear mixed model was also conducted to account for any clustering effects. Results Significant differences (p s <.05) were found between groups for knowledge of outdoor fall risks and safe strategy use. Effect sizes were large (Cohen's d = 1.2–1.9). Results were retained at 6-week follow-up. Discussion and Implications Stroll Safe is effective in improving knowledge of outdoor fall risks and increasing safe strategy use for community mobility. Background: In difficult-to-treat depression (DTD) the outcome metrics historically used to evaluate treatment effectiveness may be suboptimal. Metrics based on remission status and on single end-point (SEP) assessment may be problematic given infrequent symptom remission, temporal instability, and poor durability of benefit in DTD. Methods: Self-report and clinician assessment of depression symptom severity were regularly obtained over a 2-year period in a chronic and highly treatment-resistant registry sample (N = 406) receiving treatment as usual, with or without vagus nerve stimulation. Twenty alternative metrics for characterizing symptomatic improvement were evaluated, contrasting SEP metrics with integrative (INT) metrics that aggregated information over time. Metrics were compared in effect size and discriminating power when contrasting groups that did (N = 153) and did not (N = 253) achieve a threshold level of improvement in end-point quality-of-life (QoL) scores, and in their association with continuous QoL scores. Results: Metrics based on remission status had smaller effect size and poorer discrimination of the binary QoL outcome and weaker associations with the continuous end-point QoL scores than metrics based on partial response or response. The metrics with the strongest performance characteristics were the SEP measure of percentage change in symptom severity and the INT metric quantifying the proportion of the observation period in partial response or better. Both metrics contributed independent variance when predicting end-point QoL scores. Conclusions: Revision is needed in the metrics used to quantify symptomatic change in DTD with consideration of INT time-based measures as primary or secondary outcomes. Background: Preventive health checks are assumed to reduce the risk of the development of cardio-metabolic disease in the long term. Although no solid evidence of effect is shown on health checks targeting the general population, studies suggest positive effects if health checks target people or groups identified at risk of disease. The aim of this study is to explore why and how targeted preventive health checks work, for whom they work, and under which circumstances they can be expected to work. Methods: The study is designed as a realist synthesis that consists of four phases, each including collection and analysis of empirical data: 1) Literature search of systematic reviews and meta-analysis, 2) Interviews with key-stakeholders, 3) Literature search of qualitative studies and grey literature, and 4) Workshops with key stakeholders and end-users. Through the iterative analysis we identified the interrelationship between contexts, mechanisms, and outcomes to develop a program theory encompassing hypotheses about targeted preventive health checks. Results: Based on an iterative analysis of the data material, we developed a final program theory consisting of seven themes; Target group; Recruitment and participation; The encounter between professional and participants; Follow-up activities; Implementation and operation;Shared understanding of the intervention; and Unintended side effects. Overall, the data material showed that targeted preventive health checks need to be accessible, recognizable, and relevant for the participants' everyday lives as well as meaningful to the professionals involved. The results showed that identifying a target group, that both benefit from attending and have the resources to participate pose a challenge for targeted preventive health check interventions. This challenge illustrates the importance of designing the recruitment and intervention activities according to the target groups particular life situation. Conclusion: The results indicate that a one-size-fits-all model of targeted preventive health checks should be abandoned, and that intervention activities and implementation depend on for whom and under which circumstances the intervention is initiated. Based on the results we suggest that future initiatives conduct thorough needs assessment as the basis for decisions about where and how the preventive health checks are implemented. This special section represents a collection of papers on recruitment and retention of couples from underrepresented backgrounds in couple intervention research. Research shows that couples from underrepresented backgrounds tend to be missing from intervention research. This gap is concerning; conclusions about the effectiveness of these interventions are not being drawn from diverse and representative samples and it may be that scholars are inadvertently creating inappropriate and inaccessible services for these couples. Recruiting and retaining these couples require specialized efforts and attention. In this summary paper, we describe (a) the origins of this special section, (b) the existing research on recruitment and retention in couple intervention research, (c) an overview of the papers in this special section, and (d) future recommendations and directions for this aspect of methodology in couple research. This collection of papers elevates the need to involve community members from the beginning, reduce barriers to access, and create recruitment materials and a service delivery environment that is specific for the target population. Aim: This study aims to investigate the effect and methods of cryotherapy in reducing swelling after total knee arthroplasty. Design: Systematic review. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, KoreaMed, KERIS and National Science Digital Library for randomized controlled trials on 19 August 2021. This systematic review was conducted according to the PRISMA 2009 checklist. Results: A total of eight randomized controlled trials were systematically reviewed to determine the effect and methods of cryotherapy on reducing postoperative swelling. The effects were not significantly different in six studies. Application time per cryotherapy session was 10–20 min when using an ice pack and up to 48 h when using an automated device. The duration ranged from 2 days to 1 week or until discharge, and the frequency varied from 2 to 72 times per day. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This photovoice study was conducted simultaneously for the purpose of research and clinical intervention with one client family to explore their experiences of barriers to implementing mindfulness skills learned in counseling into their everyday lives. Photovoice is an ideal research methodology for investigating clients' perspectives on the counseling process because it centralizes the client worldview, minimizes researcher interpretation, and empowers clients toward action. The sample consisted of four participants (one family) whose ages were 16, 18, 41, and 43, and all identified as White or Caucasian. The family identified (a) What Life Does to Us and What We Do to Ourselves, (b) Schedules- What We Have to Do and Not Have to Do, and (c) Resistance to Change is Natural as themes representing barriers to implementing mindfulness skills at home.
