More and more research has been conducted to examine individuated, affective, and embodied themes related to heritage landscapes. Following this recent trend, the paper analyzes how tourists experience heritage landscapes to retrieve positive feelings from the past and thus seek inspiration for a better life. Specifically, this paper has two objectives. First, it examines the embodied interactions between tourists and heritage landscapes in Lijiang Old Town, a well-known cultural heritage site in Yunnan, China. Studying these interactions will add substance to the affective aspect of heritage landscapes, showing the cultural value of heritage to individuals who live in a speedy world. Second, this paper attempts to understand the complex feelings developed by tourists towards heritage landscapes. We find that leisurely tourists attempt to enjoy heritage landscapes in order to counter their hectic pace of life in China's big cities. They engage in either strolling in the town to decode the cultural values of heritage landscapes or staying put to immerse themselves in a heritage aura, for the purpose of relaxation and slowness. All the positive feelings in the town can lead to selftransformation and even spiritual rejuvenation. Visits to museums have been studied as hedonic and utilitarian forms of cultural consumption, though limited attention has been given to the access of museum collections online. We perform a unique historic analysis of the visibility of collections in a museum of ethnographic collections and compare 100 years of onsite visits to 5 years online visits. We find two main results: first, access to collections increased substantially online. From a selection of objects available both onsite and online, access grew from an average of 156,000 onsite visits per year to over 1.5 million views online per year. Onsite, the museum received 15.5 million visits in a span of a century while online, collections were viewed 7.9 million times in only the last 5 years. Second, we find a difference in consumer preference for type of object, favouring 3D onsite and 2D online (photographs of objects, particularly when showing them being used). To investigate the brand history of Remington firearms, this study introduces and applies a new construct, the ‘mythical moment', which is defined as an episode when the course of brand mythmaking quickens and has greater cultural resonance. Three such mythical moments are examined: the Remington founder myth of 1816, the Remington sharpshooter myth of the 1870s, and the mythic world of Remington storefront windows in the early twentieth century. These narrative histories are analyzed in terms of their commonalities and differences, and their implications for processes of heritage branding and brand consumption are discussed. This study examines tourists' behaviour in heritage sites in the Campania region using a multidimensional analysis. Four types of non-resident cultural visitors have been identified resulting from a clustering technique. The analysis has confirmed that the process of selecting cultural sites varies according to the characteristics of the visitor that are not only socio-demographic but related to previous tourist experiences as well. Focusing on two clusters - "familiar" and "niche" tourists - we propose a possible economic interpretation of different behaviours in the process of heritage consumption. The conclusions suggest that the accumulated knowledge and emotional involvement with the site as a part of a wider rather than local heritage are the key variables in tourist choices and that demand cannot be simply stimulated by supply measures. This article poses a seemingly simple question, 'How do tourists consume heritage places?' The answers to this question are, however, more complex and yet underpin many of the decisions of policy-makers. Yet, the question is rarely posed by either academics or by policy-makers in either tourism or place management, largely because it is assumed that the answers are either well-known and even self-evident or are not relevant. The attention of place planners and managers is generally focused on the detailed marketing and management of tourism in heritage places rather than on the broader assumptions upon which it is inevitably based. The argument here is that these usually unexplored assumptions need to be questioned if problems are to be avoided, issues resolved and potentials realized. These assumptions have been grouped here into three broad categories. First, there are assumptions about the market for heritage, of which tourism is only one part; secondly, assumptions about the behaviour of the heritage tourist on holiday, and finally, assumptions about the relationship of the heritage tourist and the heritage place.
