Background & Objective: The learning environment plays a vital role in shaping a student's academic success and overall satisfaction. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of the educational climate in the Operating Room (OR) on the moral distress experienced by operating room technology students. Material & Methods: In 2022, we conducted a descriptive-analytical study on 58 undergraduate operating room technology students from North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences. We utilized purposeful sampling in the form of a census from qualified academic departments. To collect information, we used three questionnaires: one for demographic information, one for IMOTEC, and one for moral distress. We analyzed the data using independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson's correlation coefficient, as well as multiple linear regression analysis at a 95% confidence level using SPSS 26 software. Results: The mean score for the OR educational climate was 71.14 ± 12.01. The rate of moral distress was measured in severity and frequency dimensions, with scores of 1.87 ± 1.08 and 1.79 ± 0.94, respectively. We found a significant inverse relationship between the mean of the educational environment and the severity (p < 0.001) and frequency (p < 0.05) of moral distress. Conclusion: Given that the educational climate is one of the key factors affecting moral distress, it appears that enhancing the educational climate in the OR environment can play a significant role in reducing the moral distress experienced by students. Background: Although ethical practice is critical in anesthesiology, few practical measures have been presented to implement ethical clinical practice to this specialty.Aim: This study was performed aimed to identify Iranian anesthesiologists' perceptions of moral distress in caring of anesthetized patients.Method: This qualitative study was performed using conventional content analysis approach based on semi-structured interviews of 15 anesthesiologists which worked in the hospitals affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2019. The sampling method was purposive and the data were analyzed based on Granheim and Landmann method.Results: Ethical distress perceived by anesthesiologists was classified into the following eight categories: (i) Ethical distress regarding informed consent and respect for patient autonomy, (ii) Ethical distress regarding the cancellation or postponement of patient's surgery, (iii) Ethical distress regarding the anesthesiologist's relationship with patients undergoing surgery, (iv) Ethical distress regarding surgical patients' companions, (v) Ethical distress regarding patients' privacy and confidentiality, (vi) Ethical distress regarding surgeon's colleagues and other OR colleagues, (vii) Ethical distress regarding end-of-life patients, and (ix) Ethical distress regarding fair distribution of resources and equipment. Implications for Practice: The findings of the present study can provide a better understanding of situations that cause moral distress for anesthesiologists and can be used in policy making and preparing ethical codes and ethical guidelines for working in the operating room. Identifying ethical distresses of anesthesiologists in the hospital is the first step in conducting managerial interventions to improve the state of clinical ethics and organizational ethics in a care provider setting.

The article begins with an exploration of the ambivalence experienced by the author when invited to speak at a conference in Tel Aviv, Israel. This followed by introducing two notions, 'ethical distress' and 'entangled relational', both of which speak to the ambivalence. Next, it is argued that the notion of 'the relational' in psychoanalytic literature is largely apolitical, and that it has required women—who speak from the margins—to theorize and incorporate the political into the relational frame. I argue that the 'entangled relational' subsumes and politicizes 'the relational'. The notion of 'intimate others' is utilized to think about processes of Othering and the emotional consequences that follow out of it. This is followed by Nancy Chodorow and Lynne Layton's politicized feminist theorizations. Layton concludes that psycho-developmental processes taking place under conditions of patriarchy necessarily lead to men and women suffering from a form of narcissistic injury. The article then uses all these ideas to think about the psychological consequences of militarization on the male and female citizens of militarized societies, and in particular about the psychological consequences for those living in the Israeli-Palestinian context. In Quebec, 31% of occupational therapists work in the private sector, which is constantly growing. To date, no studies have specifically documented the ethical issues involved in this practice. The objective of this study was to explore these issues, that is, situations that could compromise the respect of an ethical value. Using a phenomenology-inspired research protocol, seven occupational therapists were interviewed in semi-directed individual interviews. Based on the conceptual framework of Swisher and colleagues, the interview questionnaire permitted the identification of different types of ethical issues. The results show that several values ​​are likely to be compromised: patient well-being, patient autonomy, public safety, distributive justice, quality of interventions, competent practice, professional independence, honesty and professionalism. Although occupational therapists are concerned about the well-being of patients, there are a number of factors that appear to contribute to compromised values, including dual-loyalty situations experienced by occupational therapists, third-party interference in the clinical process, and the funding of clinics. Moreover, the ethical issues of private practice occupational therapy are mainly macroscopic. The ability of occupational therapists to perceive some of these issues seems to be related to some of their characteristics, that is, their ethical sensitivity and the fact that they are novices. The results of this study are generally in line with those documented in the physiotherapy literature and demonstrate the lack of support available to occupational therapists, notably novices, to help effectively overcome these issues.

This paper takes an interprofessional view of the types of scenarios allied health students, including those in speech pathology, may encounter on placement. The paper highlights that students are ethically aware and in some cases may experience ethical distress as a result of what they experience on placement. Sometimes the cause of this distress is the behaviour of the clinical educator, who cannot therefore be a support to the student in managing their ethical concerns. We suggest a structured approach to pre-placement preparation, support during placement, and post-placement for students, which provides a range of resources, personnel and educational strategies to assist them to develop their ethical reasoning and manage ethical concerns. Speech-Language Therapy and Audiology graduates have worked in Community Service for 6 years. An evaluation of the impact of this strategy is now seen as important. In this discussion paper we report on the content and process of feedback sessions with 132 graduates from the University of the Witwatersrand during their community service placements from 2003-2008. Experiences and perceptions of these graduates are discussed in relation to a model as well as in relation to additional research conducted with our profession and other Community Service professions. Themes discussed include professional and technical issues, systemic and managerial issues, interpersonal issues and ethical issues. Perceptions on the adequacy of training are also described. The overall goals of Community Service are considered as well as indices for measuring success. Implications are considered for training institutions, for the Department of Health and for the profession.

The article presents a study which described the lived experiences of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurses with ethical issues based on interviews with registered nurses working in the NICU. The participants' perceptions of the lived experience of caring for infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome are presented. Results showed that nurses struggled with issues of beneficence and nonmaleficence and were not aware of evidence that guides methadone management of pregnant women.

In this column, the associate editor of The Journal of Perinatal Education (JPE) discusses the decision to devote an issue of JPE to the ethics of childbirth and maternity care. The current crisis in maternity care mandates a careful look at the ethical principles that provide the foundation for practice. The contents of this special issue include: a broad overview of ethics of childbearing, historical perspectives and contemporary understanding of informed decision making, the ethical issues faced by childbirth educators, and the challenges and moral distress experienced by childbirth educators and other maternity care providers when their values, beliefs, and ethical standards are in conflict with standard maternity care practices.
