2. The Use of Surfacing Materials to Increase the Durability of Disc Harrow Working Elements

Introduction. For surface tillage operation there widely used disc harrows, working bodies of which are discs wearing out during operation. The wear intensity of discs depends on the wear resistance of their working surfaces, working modes and properties of the cultivated soil. It has been found that an effective way to increase the life of discs is surfacing them with wear-resistant materials. The aim of the work is to study the wear out of surfacing materials, which can be used to harden discs and to make recommendation for the use of these materials in the repair departments of agricultural enterprises. Materials and Methods. Surfacing with electrodes T-590 and powder wires PP-Np200Kh15S1GRT, VELTEK-N560.02 and PP-Np280Kh9F7SG4 were taken as test materials. For wear tests of materials in abrasive mass, there was used an apparatus to simulate the moisture content and composition (sandy loam or loam) of the soil. In the disk-pad tests, the effect of abrasive particle size, load and sliding friction velocity on the wear of the materials was studied. In field tests, wear of the disks made of 65G steel, surfaced toothed and solid disks were monitored. Results. Laboratory studies of the materials revealed the effect of soil moisture and composition, load, abrasive grit and sliding friction velocity on wear. The main factor determining the wear resistance of materials is their structural state. The indexes of wear resistance of surfacing were determined during the laboratory tests and confirmed by field tests. Discussion and Conclusion. Surfacing with flux-cored wire PP-Np280Kh9F7SG4 has the highest wear resistance of the studied materials. The technology of hard-facing disks with modern materials, in particular with flux-cored wire PP-Np280Kh9F7SG4, can be implemented in repair departments of agricultural enterprises when they have the equipment for hard-facing and sharpening of working surfaces.

IAC Carioca Eté. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos constituíram-se da combinação de três lâminas de água, com preparo do solo com arado de aiveca, com grade pesada e sem preparo (plantio direto) e com 0, 30, 60, 90 e 120 kg ha-1 de N aplicados em cobertura aos 15 dias após a emergência das plantas. A irrigação foi realizada com um sistema fixo de irrigação convencional por aspersão e no manejo de água foram utilizados diferentes coeficientes de cultura (Kc) distribuídos em períodos compreendidos entre a emergência e a colheita. A menor lâmina de água propiciou produtividade de grãos semelhante à das outras lâminas, mas com menor custo. O preparo do solo com arado de aiveca não diferenciou do preparo com grade aradora e proporcionou maior produtividade de grãos em relação ao plantio direto. A adubação nitrogenada não afetou a produtividade de grãos. The appropriate cultural management enhance the plant efficiency on available resource utilization. This study aimed to evaluate the IAC Carioca Eté cultivar common bean performance as a function of soil management, sidedressing nitrogen rates and water level management. A randomized block design in a factorial scheme with four repetitions was used. The treatments were constituted by combination of three water levels, three soil management (moldboard plow + leveling disc harrow, heavy disc harrow + leveling disc harrow, and no tillage) and sidedressing nitrogen rates applied at 15 days after plant emergency (0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 kg ha-1). It was also used a sprinkle irrigation system and different cultural coefficients (Kc) for water management between plant emergency and harvest. The smallest water level showed grain yield similar to other levels but with the advantage of being cheaper. The soil tillage with moldboard plow allowed higher grain yield in relation to no till system and that was similar to the preparation with heavy disc harrow. The sidedressing nitrogen fertilization did not interfere in the grain yield. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar os efeitos dos sistemas de preparo do solo, arado de aiveca, grade aradora e plantio direto, sobre a variabilidade de atributos físico-químicos do solo. O trabalho foi conduzido em Latossolo Vermelho perférrico, textura argilosa, cultivado com milho no verão e feijão no inverno, durante cinco anos consecutivos. As amostras de solo foram coletadas em 49 pontos, de uma malha quadrada de 7x7, espaçados de 4x4 m, nas profundidades de 0-5 cm e 5-20 cm de solo. Os valores de Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B, matéria orgânica (MO) e argila do solo variaram nos diferentes tratamentos. Na profundidade de 0-5 cm, os valores de Cu, Mn, B, MO e argila foram maiores no sistema plantio direto. Os valores de Cu e de Zn apresentaram as maiores variabilidades, e os de MO e argila, as menores. Utilizando-se o procedimento de coletar 20 subamostras para formar uma amostra composta, os teores de argila, MO, B e Mn estariam sendo estimados com erro em torno de 10% do valor médio. Para o Cu e o Zn a variação em torno da média atingiu mais de 25%.The objective of this study was to determine the effect of soil tillage systems, moldboard plough, harrow disc and no-tillage, on the variability of some soil physico-chemical properties. The study was conducted in a clayey Oxisol, subjected to different soil tillage systems for five consecutive years and cultivated with corn in the summer and bean in the winter. Forty nine soil samples were collected from a grid 7x7 lattice sampling area spaced 4x4 m at 0-5 cm and 5-20 cm soil depth. The values of Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B, organic matter and clay contents of soil varied for different treatments. The Cu, Mn, B, organic matter and clay content values were higher in the 0-5 cm soil depth in no-tillage treatment. Among the soil chemical properties evaluated, the concentrations of Cu and Zn showed the highest variability, whereas organic matter and clay contents had the lowest. In 20 samples analyzed, the variables clay, organic matter, B and Mn were estimated with an error of 10% of the actual value. For Cu and Zn, the mean variation using the same procedure reached over 25%.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar os efeitos de sistemas de preparo do solo e de rotações de culturas sobre o rendimento de grãos e economicidade da cultura do feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) irrigado pelo sistema pivô central. O trabalho foi conduzido durante seis anos consecutivos, na Embrapa-Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Arroz e Feijão, localizado no Município de Santo Antônio de Goiás, GO, em Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro, de textura argilosa. O experimento consistiu de um fatorial 4 x 6, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com parcelas subdivididas. Os sistemas de preparo do solo foram: P1 arado de aiveca (novembro-dezembro) alternado com grade aradora (maio-junho); P2 arado de aiveca contínuo; P3 grade aradora contínua; P4 plantio direto; e as rotações de culturas: R1 arroz-feijão; R2 milho-feijão; R3 soja-trigo, R4 soja-trigo-soja-feijão-arroz-feijão; R5 arroz consorciado com calopogônio-feijão; e R6 milho-feijão-milho-feijão-arroz -feijão. As rotações R1, R2, R3 e R5 foram anuais, e as R4 e R6, trienais. Neste trabalho analisaram-se somente as rotações que continham feijão. O arroz, o milho e a soja foram semeados em novembro-dezembro (verão), e o feijão e o trigo, em maio-junho (inverno). Houve efeito do preparo do solo e das rotações de cultura sobre o rendimento de grãos do feijoeiro. A cultura produziu mais quando se utilizou no preparo do solo a combinação de arado de aiveca, nos cultivos de verão, e grade aradora nos de inverno. Os rendimentos do feijoeiro foram maiores quando a cultura foi implantada bienalmente na mesma área, nas rotações com arroz/calopogônio e arroz, e menores, nas rotações com milho. O feijoeiro irrigado, com relação ao preparo do solo e rotações de culturas, foi economicamente viável, propiciando taxas de retorno que variaram de 67% a 97%. The objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic effect of soil tillage and crop rotation on grain yield of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) irrigated by central pivot. The study was conducted at the Embrapa-Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Arroz e Feijão, in a Dark-Red Latosol with clay texture, during six consecutive years. Basic experiment was a 4 x 6 factorial, having a completely randomized block design with subdivided plots. Soil tillage systems were: P1 moldboard plough (November-December), alternated with harrow disc (May-June); P2 moldboard plough; P3 harrow disc, and P4 no-tillage. The crop rotations used were: R1 rice-common bean; R2 corn-common bean; R3 soybean-wheat; R4 soybean-wheat-soybean-common bean-rice-common bean; R5 rice associated with Calopogonium mucunoides-common bean; and R6 corn-common bean-corn-common bean-rice-common bean. The crop rotations R1, R2, R3, and R5 were annual and R4 and R6 were triennial; in this study, only rotations with common bean were evaluated. Rice, corn and soybean were sown in November/December (summer) and common bean and wheat in May/June (winter). Grain yield of common bean was influenced by soil tillage and crop rotation. Yield was higher under soil prepared with moldboard plough in combination with summer sowing and prepared with harrow disc in winter sowing. Common bean grain yield was higher when biannual sowing was done in the same area in rotation with rice/C. mucunoides and rice, and lower in rotation with corn. Irrigated common bean crop was economically viable as a function of soil tillage and crop rotation and economic return varied from 67% to 97%.

O trabalho foi conduzido na Embrapa-Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Arroz e Feijão, em Santo Antônio de Goiás, GO, em Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro distrófico, textura argilosa, submetido a diferentes sistemas de preparo, durante cinco anos consecutivos (19921996), e cultivado com milho no verão e feijoeiro no inverno, sob irrigação por aspersão. O objetivo foi avaliar as características químicas de um solo Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro após cinco anos de uso de três sistemas de preparo para o plantio. Os sistemas foram: com arado de aiveca, grade aradora e plantio direto. As amostras para análise química foram coletadas, em todos os três tratamentos, em uma malha quadrada de 49 pontos (7x7), a espaços de 4 m x 4 m, e nas profundidades de 0-5 cm e 5-20 cm de solo. As amostras foram analisadas para determinação do pH, Ca, Mg, P, K e cálculo da saturação por bases. Em relação a cada variável calculou-se o valor médio, mínimo, máximo e coeficiente de variação, comparando-se as médias, entre tratamentos, pelo teste t. Os valores de pH, Ca, Mg, P, K e saturação por bases do solo variaram nos diferentes tratamentos. Na profundidade de 0-5 cm, os valores de todas as variáveis foram maiores no sistema plantio direto do que no arado e na grade. Os valores de P e de K apresentaram as maiores variabilidades, e os de pH, as menores. Minimum, maximum and average values were calculated along with the coefficient of variation and average values were compared by the t test. Values of pH, Ca, Mg, P, K and base saturation of soil varied for different treatments. All soil chemical properties values were higher at 0-5 cm soil depth in no-tillage treatment as compared to harrow disc and moldboard plough treatments. Among the soil chemical properties evaluated, P and K concentrations showed the highest variability, whereas pH presented the lowest.

De nieuwe Farmer-versie van de Qualidisc is lichter gebouwd en minder luxe. Dat maakt van de Farmer een betaalbare schijveneg en daardoor is de machine een optie voor boeren die de stoppel er tegen niet al te hoge kosten onder willen werken.

A three years research project was developed to study tractor-implement dynamics in tillage operations. This paper reports the results of field tests performed under real working conditions, using four wheel drive tractors and trailed disc harrows combinations, under different soils conditions. The data show a linear relationship between the drawbar pull per unit of implement width and the fuel consumption per hectare. The results give evidence of the benefits of the "gear up, throttle down" approach., Se ha llevado a cabo un trabajo de tres años para estudiar la dinámica del sistema tractor-grada de discos. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de ensayos realizados con tractores y aperos en condiciones reales, en diferentes tipos del suelo. Una vez optimizadas las regulaciones con el tractor y la grada se han podido establecer unas ecuaciones de referencia que relacionan el consumo de combustible por hectárea y la tracción por unidad de anchura de trabajo. Estas ecuaciones marcan unas referencias que permiten deducir el grado de optimización de un conjunto en las diferentes situaciones del campo. Los resultados ponen en evidencia los beneficios de trabajar en la correcta regulación del régimen y de la caja de velocidad.

Discs harrows are the most commonly used tillage implements in Portugal. A review of available information shows that the forward speed effect in draught requirements of trailed disc harrows is not clear. This paper gives the results of field trials with trailed disc harrows, performed in the field in different soils. The results show that draught force tends to increase with forward speed and that this relationship is almost linear at speeds between 3 and 9 km/h., Las gradas de discos son los aperos de preparación del suelo más comunes en Portugal. La revisión de la información disponible muestra que el efecto de la velocidad de avance en el esfuerzo de tracción demandado por las gradas de discos no está perfectamente clarificado. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de ensayos realizados con gradas de discos en condiciones reales, en diferentes tipos del suelo. Los resultados ponen en evidencia que el esfuerzo de tracción aumenta con la velocidad y demuestran que esta relación es aproximadamente lineal, entre 3 y 9 km/h.

De compact-schijveneg lijkt in opkomst in Nederland. Amazone heeft al enkele jaren de Catros in het programma. Vorig jaar kwam daar de Catros+ bij. Allerhande stoppels zijn voor deze machine geen probleem.

- Abstract
Schijveneggen lijken in Nederland voorzichtig een voet aan de grond te krijgen als stoppelwerktuig. Een betrekkelijk nieuwe speler op deze markt is het Franse Agrisem. Mechanisatiebedrijf Weevers in Swifterbant en Agrisem Nederland haalden een 6 meter brede Disk-OMulch 30 Ecodisc-demonstratiemachine naar Nederland.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar os efeitos dos sistemas de preparo do solo, arado de aiveca, grade aradora e plantio direto, sobre a variabilidade de atributos físico-químicos do solo. O trabalho foi conduzido em Latossolo Vermelho perférrico, textura argilosa, cultivado com milho no verão e feijão no inverno, durante cinco anos consecutivos. As amostras de solo foram coletadas em 49 pontos, de uma malha quadrada de 7x7, espaçados de 4x4 m, nas profundidades de 0-5 cm e 5-20 cm de solo. Os valores de Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B, matéria orgânica (MO) e argila do solo variaram nos diferentes tratamentos. Na profundidade de 0-5 cm, os valores de Cu, Mn, B, MO e argila foram maiores no sistema plantio direto. Os valores de Cu e de Zn apresentaram as maiores variabilidades, e os de MO e argila, as menores. Utilizando-se o procedimento de coletar 20 subamostras para formar uma amostra composta, os teores de argila, MO, B e Mn estariam sendo estimados com erro em torno de 10% do valor médio. Para o Cu e o Zn a variação em torno da média atingiu mais de 25%. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of soil tillage systems, moldboard plough, harrow disc and no-tillage, on the variability of some soil physico-chemical properties. The study was conducted in a clayey Oxisol, subjected to different soil tillage systems for five consecutive years and cultivated with corn in the summer and bean in the winter. Forty nine soil samples were collected from a grid 7x7 lattice sampling area spaced 4x4 m at 0-5 cm and 5-20 cm soil depth. The values of Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, B, organic matter and clay contents of soil varied for different treatments. The Cu, Mn, B, organic matter and clay content values were higher in the 0-5 cm soil depth in no-tillage treatment. Among the soil chemical properties evaluated, the concentrations of Cu and Zn showed the highest variability, whereas organic matter and clay contents had the lowest. In 20 samples analyzed, the variables clay, organic matter, B and Mn were estimated with an error of 10% of the actual value. For Cu and Zn, the mean variation using the same procedure reached over 25%.

39 8. ÖZET Toprağın işlenmesinde agroteknik isteklerin yerine getirilmesi için, toprak işleme aletlerin görevi ve önemi herkesçe bilinmektedir. Diskli aletlerin bu isteklerin yerine getirilmesindeki büyük önemi ve rolü olmaktadır. Diskli aletlerdeki disklerin disayn ve konstrüksiyonu ele alınarak gerekli bilgiler ve parametreler araştırılarak saptanmıştır. Ege Bölgesinde disk yapımında kullanılan çelik tiplerinden imalatçılardan üç çeşit çelik alınarak, TS 368 de istenilen sertlik değerlerine ulaşmak için, çeliklerin üzerinde ısıl işlemler uygulanmıştır. Seçilen çelikler DİN 17221 (38 3* 7). SAE 1035 ve SAE 1080 içerdikleri C oranına bağlı olarak sertleştirilmiştir. Sertleştirme işleminden sonra 200 `C, 400 °C ve 600 `C sıcaklıklarında gerilim giderici tavlama uygulanmıştır. Denenen çelik cinslerinden DİN 17221 (38 Sı 7) yay çeliğinin sertliği istenilen Rockwel sertlik değerleri arasındaki (38 45 HRc) değerlere ulaşılmıştır. SAE 1035 ve SAE 1080 çeliklerinde istenilen sertlik elde edilememiştir. Disk yapımı için kesme, şekillendirme ve ısıl işlem kolaylığı ve yatkınlığı açısından DİN 17221 (38 Sı 7) çelik tipi tercih edilmelidir. 40 9. SUMMARY It is very well known that the use of tillage tools have a great importance for ful If il ling the agricultural requirements of the soil during cultivation. în these tools `DISC` are the most important ones. Design and production parameters are determined by research and Laboratory tests. Most Comman three type of steels were provided for the disc manufacturing and their surfaces are hardened according to TS 368 standart by surface heat treatment. The selected steels are DIN 17221 (38 Si 7), SAE 1035 and SAE 1080 and they were hardened with respect to their C content. They are anneal at 200 `Ç, 400 `C and 600 `C after hardening. Desired Rockwel hardness (38... 45 HRc) was only reached by the DIN 17221 (38 Si 7) material. The SAE 1035 and SAE 1080 steels didn't gave the desired hardnesses. DIN 17221 (38 Si 7) steel should be Preferred due to its easy prosessing as cutting, machining and surface treatment. 49

Discs harrows are the most commonly used tillage implements in Portugal. A review of available information shows that the forward speed effect in draught requirements of trailed disc harrows is not clear. This paper gives the results of field trials with trailed disc harrows, performed in the field in different soils. The results show that draught force tends to increase with forward speed and that this relationship is almost linear at speeds between 3 and 9 km/h. Las gradas de discos son los aperos de preparación del suelo más comunes en Portugal. La revisión de la información disponible muestra que el efecto de la velocidad de avance en el esfuerzo de tracción demandado por las gradas de discos no está perfectamente clarificado. En este artículo se presentan los resultados de ensayos realizados con gradas de discos en condiciones reales, en diferentes tipos del suelo. Los resultados ponen en evidencia que el esfuerzo de tracción aumenta con la velocidad y demuestran que esta relación es aproximadamente lineal, entre 3 y 9 km/h.
