Diarrhea continues to be a global health problem as acute diarrhea carries the risk of dehydration, while both acute and chronic diarrhea can significantly affect patients’ quality of life and reduce productivity. The innovative medical device Actitan, which consists of a complex of natural molecules, could be an effective option for the treatment of diarrhea from various causes. The aim of this post-market cross-sectional study was to evaluate the perceived efficacy, safety and usage pattern of the two formulations for adults (Actitan-P) and children (Actitan-F) among patients/child caregivers, physicians and pharmacists. Participants completed online questionnaires with closed multiple-choice questions that were rated on a verbal 5-point Likert scale. These surveys were conducted via the online platform Real World Data, which provides digital questionnaires for patients, doctors and pharmacists. Two separate surveys were conducted for the two formulations, with a total of 2630 participants (1488 participants for Actitan-P and 1142 participants for Actitan-F). Overall, the results indicate a high level of efficacy and safety of the product. In the case of Actitan-F, more than 96% of caregivers rated safety as good or excellent, and over 92% rated efficacy as good or excellent. Actitan-P also received positive feedback: nearly 86% of patients reported good/excellent efficacy, and more than 93% rated safety as good or excellent. These positive evaluations were confirmed by physicians and pharmacists, who also did not report adverse effects. In summary, this study confirms the role of Actitan as a safe and effective option for the treatment of diarrhea of different causes and in different patient groups, including young children.

This paper uses digital approaches to investigate Priene’s (Turkey) archaeological area. The city was built ex novo, after a catastrophic earthquake around 350 BC, on a new site facing the Mediterranean Sea. The city suffered a slow decline following centuries of development and was abandoned after the 12th century. The remains of Priene were discovered in the 17th century, and different excavations and studies have been conducted in the last few centuries. The city’s remains have been studied from various archaeological and historical points of view. It is documented that the city suffered different earthquakes during its existence, as demonstrated by the partial restorations and damage patterns visible within the remains. This contribution offers a methodological and interdisciplinary approach for studying and enhancing archaeological heritage. This paper presents the preliminary results of the first comprehensive digital acquisition of the Aegean city of Priene. The digitization approaches here described focused on digital acquisition and 3D modeling restitution in the form of virtual reconstructions of two monumental buildings: the Doric Stoa near the Temple of Athena Polias and the Theater. The procedure was complementary to the analysis and comprehension of previous numerous studies carried out by British and German institutions, where digital acquisition and restitution techniques have led to the validation of previously obtained results. For the first time, digital models have been used as tools for accessing heterogeneous knowledge, and they have been incorporated into the discourse of archeological studies. Indeed, the interdisciplinary team went beyond archaeological data to attempt to digitally reconstruct monumental complexes and conduct preliminary structural evaluations scientifically.

Historic buildings are considered assets for generations. The use of 3D interactive models is an excellent way to document such historic cultural heritage. Such buildings include socio-religious buildings, such as shrines and religious monuments. Digital technologies such as photogrammetry and laser scanning play a pivotal role in monitoring and safeguarding precious shrine cultural heritage. These advanced techniques allow the capture of details and accurate 3D representations of cultural artifacts, architectural structures, and even entire shrines. This study deals with research related to the conservation of the selected historic shrine of Shah Yousaf Gardez. A laser scanner methodology was used to produce a high-level detail interactive model translated into a heritage building information modeling (HBIM) prototype. This HBIM model has been designed to maintain the historical details of the shrine, especially geometric features, artwork present on the surface, and condition of structural as well as non-structural components. Data analysis of defects in structural and non-structural components was also analyzed in the study. This study was conducted fort the first time for a shrine case study. It will not only help to document and preserve historic buildings and cultural heritage but also monitor potential degradation or damage over time. Abstract Background Athletes face various sports-related stressors, which may increase their risk for physical and mental health symptoms. With the internet as an important source of (health) information, it is important for athletes to have eHealth literacy, i.e. the ability to access, understand and use electronic health information and services. However, it is presently uncertain whether eHealth literacy of athletes is linked to better health outcomes such as reduced injury frequency and behaviours like decreased substance abuse. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with N = 373 German athletes (229 females) from different types of sport (e.g., ball sports and water sports) who were included in the statistical analyses. The survey included medical, socio-demographic, eHealth- and sports-related data as well as the eHealth Literacy Scale (GR-eHEALS) questionnaire, which measures eHealth literacy. Confirmatory factor analyses and correlational analyses were performed to determine the convergent and discriminant (compared to the 8-item Impulsive Behavior–8 Scale) validity of the GR-eHEALS and to assess the relation between eHealth literacy scores and health outcomes. Results The more frequently athletes had sustained minor or moderate injuries in the past, the higher the level of eHealth literacy they reported. Furthermore, consumption frequency of painkillers (r = .18, p = .002), sedatives (r = .12, p = .040), and cannabis (r = .29, p = .000) was significantly correlated with eHealth literacy scores. The confirmatory factor analysis of the GR-eHEALS showed an acceptable model fit with a 2-factor solution (information seeking and information appraisal). Background: Constipation is characterized by symptoms of straining, hard stool, difficult evacuation, and infrequent bowel movements. Online surveys provide valuable information about patients' perspectives, symptoms, management, treatment satisfaction, and risk factors. Methods: This survey explored subject experiences involving 20 gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. In total, 20,099 respondents in seven countries with varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds participated. Post hoc analysis of 'self-reported constipation' and related symptoms experienced within the past 6 months and the last episode of constipation provided data on prevalence, demographics, frequency and duration of episodes and related symptoms, impact on quality of life (QoL), management with or without laxatives, and resulting treatment satisfaction. Results: In total, 10,425 subjects reported constipation within 6 months and 2637 at the last episode. Prevalence was highest in females and younger adults. Most subjects reported various coexisting GI symptoms. Almost 80% of 6865 episodes reported by 5337 subjects occurred every 2–3 months to every 2–3 weeks. A higher frequency of constipation correlated with a greater impact on QoL. On a 10-point scale, the mean impact was 6.4. More than 90% of respondents had episodes ranging from 1 day to 1 week. More than 90% took action; 16% used laxatives, of whom 80.3% were satisfied. Conclusion: Constipation, a highly prevalent disorder, spans cultures and socioeconomic classes. Its chronic recurrence has a significant impact on QoL, resulting in symptom self-management in >90% of subjects. Significantly higher satisfaction rates in subjects treated with than without laxatives reflect subjects' reports that self-reported constipation can be treated effectively with laxatives. The paper deals with a study about the geosite of Grandi Pietre Valley, located in the Aspromonte National Park, aimed at digitizing and enhancing its heritage. The landscape is characterized by rocky emergencies placed as natural landmarks. They are flanked by hermitic caves and ruins from the Byzantine era. The main naturalistic and archaeological features have been surveyed through image-based and range-based techniques. The acquired data have permitted to elaborate 3D digital models, which are useful both for a geometric and morphological analysis intended for experts and for the elaboration of a multimedia apparatus usable through ICT and aimed at a project of interactive fruition of the territory. Currently, part of the data has been entered on Wikiloc, an app for hiking activities that also allows to display multimedia documentations, but a specific app with more interaction possibilities is planned. Relational databases are established and widespread tools for storing and managing information. The efficient collection of information in a database appears to be a promising solution for bridge management (BM), thus facilitating the digital transition. The Italian regulatory framework on infrastructure operation and maintenance (O&M) is complex and is constantly being updated. The current plan for implementing its guidelines envisages that infrastructure managers, also on a regional scale, equip themselves with their own digital database for BM. Within this context, this research proposes an integrated methodology that collects information derived from project documentation, in situ inspections, digital surveys, and monitoring and field tests in a queryable database for digitalising, georeferencing, and creating models of many bridges. Structured query language (SQL) statements are used to efficiently export specific shared information, enabling network cross-analysis. Furthermore, the database represents the source of a geographic information system (GIS) catalogue and the basis for deriving models for building information modelling (BIM). The survey is the critical investigation tool by definition: when it’s understood in the broadest sense of the term, it constitutes the necessary cognitive premise at the basis of any design action. This is even more true when the intervention involves the restoration of a cultural artefact aimed at its conservation and management, an operation that assumes a careful analysis of the existing state and the correct reading of the architectural organism in all its parts.

This research is part of the European project F-ATLAS – Franciscan Landscapes the Observance between Italy, Portugal and Spain, which aim is to study the Franciscan Observance network and to find effective strategies for the conservation, protection and promotion of this important heritage. The contribution is focused on the multidisciplinary study of the Monastery of Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou (Tarragona, Spain). The historical, architectural and patrimonial research on this last and interesting centre of medieval spirituality has been developed jointly by the Italian and Spanish teams of the project. From its foundation until the last reconstruction by Eduard Toda around 1910, the complex’s function and shape have changed significantly: during the centuries, several interventions have modified it to the point of making it difficult today to read its origin and evolutionary phases. The integrated laser-scanner and photogrammetric survey, together with the creation of a digital catalogue of geo-referenced convents and the results of the international workshop carried out in November 2021, represent the bases for further analysis regarding the evolutionary phases of the complex, the buildings’ structure conditions and the definition of possible strategies for redevelopment.

The article deals with the definition and evaluation of a workflow to demonstrate that the parametric model of a historic building with a high level of digital maturity can be configured as a tool that fosters collaboration between the various professionals involved in the recovery and rehabilitation process of historic buildings. It also represents the starting point for developing structural models for quantitative analyses. The implementation of HBIM to the building aggregate called “La Giudea” in Santo Stefano di Sessanio (AQ), an artefact that is particularly representative of the historical building heritage of the small medieval village in the Abruzzo Inner Areas, has provided a model for managing the information deriving from the knowledge process. The model delivers to the use of the state of conservation, and it represents the base for the structural analysis of the asset and the identification of the measure and interventions for its preservation. The parametric model was developed in the design of strengthening and restoration works requiring interactions between digital environments. In such a framework, an investigation aimed at evaluating the interoperability of the digital model and particularly the vertical interoperability between different software packages has been explored.

This study, conducted on the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Adrano (CT), is part of a wider research aimed at the knowledge, valorization, and fruition of the theatrical and cinematographic heritage of Catania and its municipalities, through digital surveying techniques. This architectural heritage represents a powerful bond to the past for the city and its inhabitants. However, its typological connotations are often neglected or changed. Therefore, understanding these architectures is an essential step in their protection.The Teatro Massimo Bellini is located within a historicized urban space near the historic municipal garden, behind the ancient axis of Garibaldi Street, where the Mother Church and the Norman castle stand.Previous investigations conducted on the theater are purely historical-literary. No archival documents have currently been found to testify about its original stylistic formal and geometric characteristics, especially of the spaces that have been rearranged over time.Due to its typological and geometrical characteristics, we decided to proceed through an integrated survey, which could provide the necessary data for the graphic reconstruction of the building, ranging from an urban scale to a detailed scale.The presented study aims to experiment and integrate LIDAR (TLS) and SfM techniques (UAS) to obtain a three-dimensional data model useful to document the entire spatiality of the opera and its urban context. This contribution focuses on one of the identified case studies of the Franciscan Observance architecture in Umbria, the convent of San Bartolomeo near Foligno (PG). It addresses the issue of heritage documentation methodology through integrated 3D laser scanner digital survey techniques and SfM/IM photogrammetry close range and UAV. The investigations aim at developing a preliminary diagnostic framework of the San Bartolomeo complex after the damage suffered in the 2016 earthquake in Central Italy. The research is part of the broader context of the three-year European project F-ATLAS – Franciscan Landscapes: The Observance between Italy, Portugal, and Spain, funded by the JPICH 2019 call. The Project aims at the census of the Franciscan Observance’s convents and their enhancement in a European dimension. The Project also tends to verify the state of conservation and the possibilities of a compatible development of reuse projects, trying to connect the building phenomenon within its territorial and cultural context.

The objective of this article is to generate and validate a workflow that allows us to print physical twins (models) from digital twins obtained from unique buildings of our architectural heritage. These physical twins will guarantee the preservation and diffusion of the cultural asset, and will promote new pedagogical ways to spread the heritage. In addition, these physical cufflinks are an interesting tool to guarantee universal accessibility through low-cost and rapid distribution typological models. We can overcome physical barriers and reach many more users, regardless of their economic, physical, or location conditions. To obtain this workflow, digital twins of architectural elements of high cultural value obtained by photogrammetry or terrestrial laser scanner will be used. The digital twin will be optimized through different platforms, and an optimized exchange file will be generated for its dissemination and printing. A digital platform will be proposed that guarantees the free distribution of these digital twins to any user. Finally, the physical twins will be obtained. For the development of this work, we have chosen to use 3D resin printers with SLA technology (selective laser exposure to light by laser) due to their performance and high quality in the models obtained. The Covid-19 pandemic that swept through higher education institutions between 2020-2021 forced a number of different changes in Mexican university teachers. A digital survey with an ad hoc technostress scale was responded by 176 Mexican higher education teachers to measure their perceived technostress levels. The quantitative results were then used to create a simple classification matrix were the teachers were categorically divided in four different groups so as to identify which group was the most and least technostressed as well as most and least satisfied with their jobs. The relationship between the historic city and the businesses that form an essential testimony of the historical and cultural urban evolution is an emerging theme on the international scene. The research program has analyzed the traditional economic and social context of the centre of Florence in relation to the city’s urban zoning and building facades. The study highlighted the need to integrate the documentation and survey phases of the physical realities of the places of commerce with the recording of intangible cultural heritage. The latter are strongly interlinked with the authenticity of a place its features, whose disappearance may irreversibly change the environment itself. The introduction of this patrimonial category, with the UNESCO convention of 2003, led to the development of investigation tools and protocols that also involved, specifically, the scientific sector of architectural-urban design and survey to evaluate the impact of intangible features on the evolution of the city’s image over time.

The paper intends to present the results of a multidisciplinary project concerning the architectural documentation and the three-dimensional virtualization of the Ramintoja Church in Vilnius (Lithuania), conducted through morphological-metric, diagnostic and archaeological analyses. The building, which is part of a baroque complex of Augustinian origin located in the historic center of Vilnius, has gone through multiple construction phases since its probable foundation around the XIV century. The study has provided initial historical-archival research and then it has been carried out a digital survey of the building through integrated methodologies. For this purpose, TLS have been combined with SfM photogrammetric methodologies through the acquisition of images both close-range and aerial by UAV. At the same time, archaeological studies have been carried out through the stratigraphic analysis of the masonry to determine the construction techniques adopted during the various historical phases. Finally, diagnostic analyses have been carried out through the analysis of the state of the instabilities in order to identify the main construction phases and the possible restoration and consolidation interventions. As part of a Lithuanian national project of dissemination and enhancement of Heritage, and on the basis of the results of researches, were then developed reconstructive hypotheses of the church by identifying the main historical periods, and creating for each, a 3D model. It is well known that the restoration of historical buildings requires prior knowledge of them, which must be as rigorous and exhaustive as possible. Among the various studies that are required (historical, archaeological, construction materials, geotechnical, etc.) the understanding of the structural system is of great importance. It is often hard to interpret these data in this kind of buildings, which have been retrofitted and extended over the years. This paper proposes a replicable method to improve the construction and structural comprehension and assessment of historical buildings, through the analysis of specific sections based on digital surveying by terrestrial laser scanner (TLS). The objective of this article is to generate and validate a workflow that allows us to use virtual twins obtained from unique buildings of our architectural heritage. These twins will guarantee the preservation and dissemination of cultural assets and will promote universal accessibility through new technologies, such as databases, metaverses, virtual reality, augmented reality or gamification. This universal accessibility is based on new metaverses to offer experiences that allow us to overcome physical barriers and reach any user regardless of their economic or physical condition or their location. To obtain this workflow, we worked with digital twins obtained by photogrammetry. Different databases and metaverses were studied, understanding them as new systems for the representation and dissemination of architecture. These metaverses were critically assessed and screened, looking for the most suitable one to be integrated into an effective workflow that satisfies a series of imposed premises, such as being suitable for use in virtual reality and augmented reality environments. The application of non-invasive geophysical techniques and digital surveys to explore cultural heritage is becoming a very important research field. The capability to detect inner and superficial changes in the inspected surfaces allows for imaging spatial inhomogeneity and material features and planning targeted conservation and restoration interventions. In this work, the results of a research project carried out on the famous Battle of Issus Mosaic, also known as the "Alexander Mosaic", are presented. It is a masterpiece of ancient art that was found in 1831 in the House of Faun, the most luxurious and spacious house in Pompeii. It is notable for its size (3.41 × 5.82 m), the quality of workmanship and the subject that represents the culminating phase of the battle between Alexander Magno's army and the Persian one of Darius. In 1916, it was moved inside the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, where the original horizontal location was changed with a vertical arrangement supported by an inner wooden structure, whose exact manufacture is unclear. Today, the mosaic is affected by important instability phenomena highlighted by the appearance of the significant detachment of tiles, superficial lesions and swelling of the surface. Given the important need to preserve it, a high-detail diagnostic study was realized through a digital survey and non-invasive geophysical surveys using ground-penetrating radar (GPR). The investigation was repeated after two years, in 2018 and 2020, with the aim of verifying the evolution of degradation. The work provided a high-resolution estimate of the state of the health of the mosaic and allowed for obtaining a three-dimensional reconstruction of the internal mosaic structure, including the formulation of hypotheses on the engineering supporting works of the twentieth century; this provides an essential tool for the imminent conservation project, which also implies restoring the original horizontal position. In the 1550s Florence’s water supply was upgraded through the construction of a new aqueduct. Prior to that, water needs were supported by the remnants of a Roman aqueduct and by wells and cisterns. The new infrastructure increased the amount of available water and allowed for the construction of fountains in the city’s main squares, with themes principally derived from Greek and Roman mythologies. In 1641 the twin Mostri Marini (‘Marine Monsters’) fountains designed by Pietro Tacca were installed in the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. The bronze and stone statues presented fantasy creatures whose flexuous shapes suggested moving fluid. But while these statues complemented the square, they were not originally planned for the location, having been intended for placement in the main Tuscan harbour town of Livorno. The present report deals with the research area concerning the use of ICT for the fruition of inaccessible heritage. To overcome this condition, the application of cognitive surveys through integrated and expeditious surveying techniques has proved to be very useful. In particular, the application presented here concerns the church of Santa Maria della Purità in Giugliano in Campania, a valuable example of Baroque sacred architecture built on the projects of the famous Neapolitan architect Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, closed to the public for 27 years due to deteriorating conditions. The survey made use of different technologies and had different purposes: the documentation of the geometry of the building, a first analysis of the deteriorating conditions of the structure, and finally the creation of a virtual tour to realize a new form of accessibility with innovative perceptive and informative modes. This contribution focuses on one of the identified case studies of the Franciscan Observance architecture in Umbria, the convent of San Bartolomeo near Foligno (PG). It addresses the issue of heritage documentation methodology through integrated 3D laser scanner digital survey techniques and SfM/IM photogrammetry close range and UAV. The investigations aim at developing a preliminary diagnostic framework of the San Bartolomeo complex after the damage suffered in the 2016 earthquake in Central Italy. The research is part of the broader context of the three-year European project F-ATLAS – Franciscan Landscapes: The Observance between Italy, Portugal, and Spain, funded by the JPICH 2019 call. The Project aims at the census of the Franciscan Observance’s convents and their enhancement in a European dimension. The Project also tends to verify the state of conservation and the possibilities of a compatible development of reuse projects, trying to connect the building phenomenon within its territorial and cultural context.. In the digital survey, the traditional opposition between uniqueness, authenticity, originality of reality and the multifaceted structure of multiplicative reproduction typical of the representation of architecture –through synthetic digital 3D models or realistic ones from SFM, interpretative syntheses of data visualization, physical models from rapid prototyping– it loses definition and becomes more and more vanishing. Although these are technical operations, in fact, in the various processing steps between acquisition and output the data gradually assumes states of greater or lesser proximity to the real data and a variable verisimilitude. The paper investigates in theoretical terms how the conceptual domain of the informative artifact declines the cloud populated by the terms ‘original’ ‘copy’, ‘clone’, ‘reproduction’, ‘model’ and uses the selected case study with technical exemplification, interrogating it innovatively by means of ‘plausible’ optimization by algorithms currently in the betaversion phase of development by the authors.
