The article presents the author's reflections and response to the article by Guatemalan historian Francisco Pérez de Antón "Los mitos que vinieron del otro lado del mar" (The Myths That Came From Beyond the Sea), published in this issue of the journal. The author cites the academic career of Pérez de Antón, discusses the historiography of the "Popol Wuj" manuscript and gives her opinion concerning the research carried out by Pérez de Antón. She also reflects on the significance of pre-Hispanic myths.

A speech by the author upon her acceptance of the presidency of the Academía de Geografía e Historia de Guatemala (Academy of Geography and History of Guatemala) is presented.
