Many superhero and villain stories include trauma, which could influence how the public perceives the impact of trauma in their own lives. Our aim was to assess whether total Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) scores were associated with heroism or villainy among Marvel and DC Characters. We watched 33 films, with a total runtime of 77 hours and 5 minutes. We scored 28 characters (19 men, 8 women, and 1 gender fluid). ACEs scores were evenly distributed across heroes/villains (U = 88, z = -.465, p =.642), Marvel/DC universes (U = 95.5, z = -0116, p =.907), and gender (U = 61, z = -.979, p =.328). There was no statistically significant correlation between ACEs scores and status (r(26) =.090, p =.65), universe (r(26) =.022, p =.91), or gender (r(26) = -.188, p =.34). We found that there was no association between ACEs scores and heroism or villainy. Thus, no one is doomed to be a villain just because of early childhood experiences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCHOOL principals , *ROLE models , *SEMI-structured interviews , *COURAGE , *ELEMENTARY schools - Abstract
While courage has been studied in various organizational settings, limited research has attempted to reveal how school principals operating in public educational systems perceive the consequences of their courageous actions. This study aims to explore the implications of school principals’ courageous behaviors. It seeks to understand the unique form of courage exhibited by educational leaders who navigate complex challenges within domesticated organizations. Based on 20 semi-structured face-to-face interviews with school principals heading schools in the Israeli centralized educational context, this study provides some insights regarding the implications of principals’ courage, as perceived by the interviewees. Positive implications of principals’ courage are evident in (a) offering an exemplary role model; (b) inspiring and creating a sense of shared purpose; (c) supporting students and teachers; and (d) fostering critical thinking. Negative consequences of courage include (a) personal conflicts with superiors and (b) personal conflicts with parents and teachers. The study highlights the dual-edged implications of school leaders’ courageous behaviors: these actions may strengthen principals’ leadership and prominence. At the same time, however, these actions may undermine their legitimacy in the eyes of various stakeholders and their willingness to collaborate and follow principals’ leadership.. IMPOSTOR phenomenon , *SMALL cities , *ROLE models , *COURAGE , *ACADEMIA - Abstract
Role models play a crucial role in inspiring and guiding careers in science, offering tangible examples of success and resilience. Reflecting on my journey from a small town in southern Chile to leading a lab at Karolinska Institutet, I've learned that relatable role models are particularly impactful for overcoming imposter syndrome and fostering a sense of belonging in academia. Early in my career, I drew inspiration from peers and mentors, gradually building my confidence and embracing my strengths. Later, exposure to interdisciplinary role models expanded my horizons and shaped my approach to science. Now, as a PI, I see my role as both a coach and mentor, fostering a team dynamic that amplifies individual strengths. Success in science often stems from fearlessness, adaptability and a willingness to seize opportunities, even when the outcome is uncertain. My journey demonstrates that good scientists can come from anywhere, including a small town in southern Chile. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The benefits of self-authenticity have been well-documented, although courage is needed to be true to oneself. The present work aims to test whether courage is associated with and promotes self-authenticity. This hypothesis was confirmed across six studies (N = 3868). Study 1 showed that courage was positively related to self-authenticity. Having participants recall courageous (vs. cowardly or neutral) acts, Study 2 showed that temporarily heightened courage could enhance self-authenticity. Studies 3–5 further showed that sense of power could mediate the effect of courage on self-authenticity both at the trait and the state levels. Study 6 demonstrated the causal effect of sense of power on state self-authenticity by manipulating the sense of power. Overall, the current findings provide empirical evidence for the classic wisdom that courage enables one to be authentic and reveal the mediating role of sense of power in this process. Implications and limitations are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After rising to power, Xi Jinping has strengthened the institutional construction of heroism to safeguard ideological security. Hero honouring system was redesigned. Laws and policies were enacted to protect heroes and encourage the public to emulate them. Xi himself delivered many speeches about his views of heroism and ordinary heroes in the New Era, but his hero discourse lacks clarity, especially in terms of heroic qualities and the concept of ordinary heroes he has emphasized. Using qualitative textual content analysis method, this research analyzed Renmin Ribao's news stories about COVID heroes reported in 2020 and explored how heroism in the New Era was presented and exemplified in China's most important print media. The research analyzed heroic actions the heroes carried out, heroic qualities they demonstrated, the sacrifices they made and rewards they received, and concluded that ordinariness, or 'banality' of heroism is the defining feature of the COVID heroes and perhaps of the heroism in the New Era. It is argued that by making heroes more accessible to ordinary people, the practicality of using heroism as a social control and governance means is enhanced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: As organizations and individuals face increasing pressures and coercion, courageous actions become essential for effectively addressing these challenges. This research aims to investigate the antecedents and outcomes of courage within workplace settings through a comprehensive review of existing literature. Method: This study utilized a meta-synthesis approach for its research design. Sample selection was carried out using purposeful sampling techniques. Additionally, qualitative data were converted into quantitative data through Shannon's entropy method for indicator weighting and ranking. Findings: The antecedents of workplace courage were identified and categorized into four primary groups: individual, organizational, situational, and environmental factors, ranked in order of significance. Moreover, the manifestations of workplace courage were divided into positive and negative outcomes. Conclusion: The findings of this study offer valuable insights for businesses and organizational leaders regarding the vital role of courage in the workplace. By understanding the antecedents of courage, organizations can create environments that encourage courageous actions and maximize their beneficial effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A key contention of Nietzsche's philosophy is that art helps us affirm life. A common reading holds that it does so by paving over, concealing, or beautifying life's undesirable features. This interpretation is unsatisfactory for two main reasons: Nietzsche suggests that art should foreground what is ‘ugly’ about existence, and he sees thoroughgoing honesty about life's character as a requirement on genuine affirmation. The paper presents an alternative reading. According to this reading, artworks depicting something terrible give us a feeling of fearlessness or courage by enabling an extraordinary state of affective distance from their content. The value of art lies in the fact that the aesthetic state resembles and invites us to pursue a psychic condition Nietzsche valorises. In making this case, the paper reveals a surprising continuity between an important strand in nineteenth‐century aesthetic thought and contemporary distance theories of aesthetic engagement. It also casts new light on Nietzsche's famous criticisms of Kant's notion of disinterested aesthetic appreciation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Conduct disorder refers to a persistent and repetitive pattern of problematic behavior, and is usually accompanied by deficits in cognitive processing of emotional stimuli. Behavioral and physiological correlates of these deficits have been the subject of sufficiently many investigations. Meanwhile, several theories concerning conduct disorder have been developed. However, the validity of these theories to explain the emotional processing deficits among conduct-disordered individuals has not been tested. Here we summarized four relevant theories, including "social-cognitive theory and social-information-processing theory", "violence inhibition model", "optimal stimulation/arousal theory and stimulation/sensation seeking theory", and "fearlessness theory", and discussed their validity in predicting the emotional processing deficits among conduct disordered individuals. Future directions on the theories and evidence were proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fear and fearlessness are two distinct emotional responses that can occur when a person faces a potentially dangerous situation. These responses seem to be linked to gender stereotypes (fearful female and fearless male). This study examines whether preschool children attribute fear and fearlessness stereotypically in relation to gender and whether their attributions vary as a function of age and gender. One hundred and twenty children (60 boys and 60 girls) aged 3, 4 and 5 years participated in this study. We examined children's gender‐stereotypical performance through emotional scenarios and drawing tasks involving fear and fearlessness conditions. The results showed that children's performance was equally stereotypical in the two conditions. An age effect was found: children's gender stereotypical attributions increased with age. The results showed no differences in children's stereotypical performance in regards to their gender and task type (emotional scenarios and drawing tasks). The significance and implications of these findings are discussed in the context of gender‐emotion stereotypes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is predicted to play an increasingly central role in warfare, with weaponized robots taking over more battlefield operations, and military algorithms mediating in, or substituting for, human decision-making in areas such as intelligence collection and analysis, targeting, and strategic decision-making. The primary focus of this article is the potential impact of the widespread use of AI systems on soldiers and military leaders themselves – namely, on their moral character, skills, emotions, and agency – and on how they are perceived by the society which they defend. Increasing the use of AI in the military may undermine the conditions necessary for the cultivation and practice of martial virtues and commitment to the common good. The essay focuses on the three virtues of courage, deep loyalty, and prudence or practical wisdom. It then asks what kinds of “technocratic” vices might be encouraged in warfighters by the use of AI systems. It closes by analyzing the wider social and political implications of an expansive use of AI in the military. The risk is that, as AI takes over more military functions, the military ceases to be seen as a civic and republican institution and instead is seen as a mere extension of technocratic power. CULTURE , *ISRAEL-Hamas War, 2023- , *HYPOCRISY , *COURAGE - Abstract
This article argues that Slavoj Žižek's provocative speech at the Frankfurt Book Fair was a political event of the first order. Described as a major scandal triggered by Žižek's remarks on the Israel-Hamas war, the speech was much more than a deliberate provocation. It provides a window into a world that had become unhinged long before the conflict erupted anew. It offers an opportunity to observe the complex relationship between individuals, institutions, and society. It continues to be a cautionary tale that illustrates the thin line between courage and hypocrisy; and how difficult it is to practise diversity in a world gripped by the dangerous logic of evil. Thus, Žižek's opening address transcends its immediate context because it brings us up against one of today's defining questions: what does it mean, and what does it take, to practise diversity when facing the most divisive topics of our time? Elza Soares (23 June 1930 to 20 January 2022) was one of the greatest icons of Brazilian popular culture, being recognized as a singer who crossed generations. This piece recovers episodes from her personal and professional life, marked by tragedy and heroism, with the aim of showing how her trajectory and work relate to the defining problems and issues of the formation of modern/contemporary Brazil. The Matrix franchise constructs its narrative and aesthetic elements using a global frame of reference, drawing on many film genres to build its cyberpunk world and heroes. Despite the original film's utopian visions, The Matrix fell short of its promises in favour of traditional Hollywood ideals, including binary gendered relations and an individualistic hero. The issue was further compounded with The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions (2003) and their irresolution of the trilogy's central man versus machine conflict. With The Matrix Resurrections (2021), the franchise is able to shift its focus and re-present its heroes as inversions of traditional gender norms. This paper explores The Matrix Resurrections' deviations from the original trilogy and proposes a re-reading of "The Matrix" and its heroes as embodying a nonviolent, queer utopia. Strengthened through its religious narratives, the film reconstructs Neo's heroic masculinity and presents Trinity as his inseparable counterpart, with both characters attaining heroism through their mastering of the body. Resurrections is ultimately able to depict a utopian vision beyond gender binaries and fulfil the promises set out with The Matrix (1999). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article offers a person-centered understanding of courage, based on the classical, organismic-relational perspective in person-centered psychology. Drawing on literature (Shakespeare) and philosophy (especially Aristotle and Tillich), it discusses both the courage to be (and become) – and to belong. It considers courage as a virtue which in its deficiency is fear but in its excess is over-confidence, and elaborates four ways of understanding and working with this therapeutically: in terms of being (in terms of regard and self-regard), process (from fixity to fluidity), encounter (with self and others), and communities (influence and impact). At a meta-perspective, the article also offers a commentary on the issue of belonging in a world of psychology and/or psychotherapy that tends to discount person-centered psychology. Supervision is a critical component in therapists' training and development. Supervisors often encounter supervisees who struggle with feelings of inadequacy in var ious areas, such as courage, connection, capability, and significance. These feelings can be encapsulated in the Crucial Cs framework: courage, connect, capable, and count. This article explores tailored strategies for supervising such supervisees at different developmental lev els through the lens of the integrated developmental model and the Crucial Cs framework. By understanding and addressing supervisees' specific needs, supervisors can enhance super visees' sense of efficacy and value, ultimately improving their therapeutic effectiveness. Introduction: As suicide remains a global public health concern, recent work has sought to characterize mechanisms underlying the transition from suicidal ideation to action. Acquired capability for suicide, or fearlessness about death, has been identified as one key factor underlying this transition; however, understanding how this capability emerges remains limited. This study sought to extend previous work on the correlates of fearlessness about death by examining its relationship with painful and provocative events and emotional reactivity. Methods: We tested the extent to which trait emotional reactivity and past self‐injurious behavior moderated the relationship between assaultive trauma exposure and fearlessness about death in a diverse sample of 273 community adults (aged 18–55, M/SD = 32.77/10.78). Results: A three‐way interaction emerged, such that among individuals with heightened emotional reactivity and a history of self‐injurious behavior (suicide attempt or non‐suicidal self‐injury), assaultive trauma was associated with increased fearlessness about death. In contrast, among adults with low emotional reactivity and a history of self‐injurious behavior, assaultive trauma was associated with reduced fearlessness about death. Conclusions: Results suggest that emotional reactivity may be a key dispositional factor that influences how trauma exposure and self‐injurious behavior impact fearlessness about death. Through extensive reproduction and transmission, the story of the eighteenth-century historical vendetta of the 47 samurai-turned-ronin from Akō domain, often referred to metonymically as Chūshingura, became one of Japan's most beloved cultural myths, believed to exhibit values shared across Japanese society. It is remembered as a tale about heroic men who fought for a noble cause and no personal gain, and who died by performing seppuku, proud to have accomplished what they set out to do. This article, however, argues that more attention should be given to the many variations in Chūshingura adaptations, which give the tale various nuanced meanings. Using selected film adaptations of the tale, I show how the cause for which the heroes are willing to die has constantly changed, reflecting larger sociocultural and political transformations. In other words, these adaptations exhibit transformations in the understanding of heroism and of what it means to be a hero. This adaptability in creating heroes that suit their times is an important element in sustaining the enduring effectiveness of Chūshingura as a cultural myth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The urgency of ensuring adequate moral courage in clinical nursing practice is evident. However, currently, there are few formal intervention plans targeted at enhancing the moral courage of nurses. Aim: To develop a training program for improving the moral courage of nurses using the modified Delphi method. Research design: A modified Delphi study. Participants and research context: From November to December 2022, a literature review and expert group discussion were conducted to develop a preliminary training plan framework. From January to March 2023, a two-round Delphi survey was performed, and a consensus was reached regarding the plan through online questionnaires. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Ethical considerations: This study was approved by the institutional ethics committee (No. 138, 30 August 2021). All participants provided written informed consent. Results: Consensus was reached on eight themes and 33 items to strengthen the moral courage training program for nurses. Conclusions: Guided by a unified goal of moral education, a multi-level and acceptable intervention plan was designed to enhance the moral courage of nurses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this qualitative exploration, we delve into the multifaceted character of Mama America, a central figure in The House of Broken Angels, investigating themes of familial bonds, cultural heritage, and human resilience. At its core lies Mama America, a character whose strength and wisdom are pivotal in weaving the intricate fabric of this literary masterpiece. The study rigorously dissects the textual data through meticulous analysis of Mama America's character, scrutinizing her actions, dialogues, and interactions within the narrative. Complementing this approach with feminism and Jung's archetype theories, with a specific focus on the archetype of the Great Mother as a female hero for protection and nurturing, the Amazon archetype, and the anima, deeper insights are gained into her multifaceted role as a female hero. The findings reveal Mama America as a multi-dimensional heroine, embodying emotional resilience and wisdom, serving as a linchpin in shaping the intricate familial dynamics portrayed in the novel. Her character emerges as a symbol of women's heroism in literature, embodying the archetype of the Great Mother, and underscoring the importance of diverse and empowering female figures, such as those in the Amazon archetype, in shaping societal narratives and cultural discourse. In conclusion, Mama America's character represents a captivating exploration of female heroism in literature, enriching the narrative and discourse within the broader context of gender representation. In the aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack, Israelis and Palestinians demonstrated acts of heroism and compassion that went largely unnoticed. In Israel, citizens organized themselves to rescue and support those affected by the violence, filling the void left by the absent government. Similarly, in the Gaza Strip, volunteers formed a makeshift government to provide aid and assistance to the population amidst the destruction caused by the Israeli military. These acts of selflessness and solidarity highlight the shared humanity and resilience of both nations, offering a glimmer of hope in the midst of conflict. [Extracted from the article]

We all have the capacity to love, but the courage to do so must be cultivated! Once in a lifetime, if we are lucky, we meet that someone who has against insurmountable odds mastered the courage to love. One who doesn't simply talk it but whose very being exudes love. I consider myself of all people most fortunate to have befriended such a one in the person of Donna Rockwell. It is only through developing one's total personality to the capacity of loving one's neighbor with "true humility, courage, faith and discipline" that one attains the capacity to experience real love, and this should be considered a rare achievement. My friend, Donna Rockwell accomplished this! This little woman, small in stature yet a giant in the lives of so many, dared to love. And for this, Donna will forever be revered as a power-house in my life and in the field of Existential-Humanistic Psychology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polio vaccine hesitancy remains high in Pakistan due to various socio-political, religious, and economic factors. To address this, the government of Pakistan and its international partners such as UNICEF have devised a multipronged communication strategy to counter resistance to polio vaccine in hard-to-reach areas of the country. In this strategy, mainstream news media has been identified as a key stakeholder, as they have the potential to reach a wide range of population and disseminate easy to understand messages including both visuals and text. However, less scholarly attention has been paid to how mainstream news media in Pakistan frame polio and polio vaccine in their visuals. This study aims to fill this gap. Using visual framing as a theoretical framework, we analyzed 115 images from three selected newspapers published from 2010 to 2022. Our results suggest that the newspapers depicted hard-to-reach areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province which were more affected by polio and highlighted the criminality and securitization of polio vaccine in the country. In addition, female polio healthcare workers, who are instrumental in eradicating the disease, have been given marginal coverage, reflecting the importance of gender sensitivity in the region. Overall, this study contributes to the fields of visual communication, health communication, and international communication, particularly related to the Global South. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Critical thinking, moral courage, and moral sensitivity are among the topics that are widely considered today in response to turbulent and complex environments in organizations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the state of critical thinking and its effect on moral courage and moral sensitivity in nurses working in hospitals under Jiroft University of Medical Sciences in southern Iran in 2024. Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 385 nurses. The data collection tools were standard questionnaires of critical thinking, moral courage and moral sensitivity. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression using SPSS23 software. Results: The average scores of critical thinking, moral courage, and moral sensitivity of the studied nurses were 188.16 ± 8.22 out of 450, 62.32 ± 7.45 out of 105, and 71.55 ± 6.39 out of 100, respectively, indicating the weak level of critical thinking and the average level of moral courage and moral sensitivity of nurses. Between moral courage (p < 0.001, r = 0.574) and moral sensitivity (p < 0.001, r = 0.611) with critical thinking, a statistically significant correlation was observed in the direct direction. Based on the results of multiple linear regression, the components of critical thinking, which include truth-seeking, inquisitiveness, analyticity, systematicity, self-confidence, cognitive maturity, and open-mindedness, respectively, were identified as predictors of moral sensitivity and moral courage (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The critical thinking of the examined nurses was estimated at a weak level, and moral courage and moral sensitivity were estimated at a moderate level. Based on the results, there is a possibility that by improving critical thinking, the state of moral courage and moral sensitivity of nurses will improve. Therefore, it is suggested that the hospital managers provide an opportunity to improve the critical thinking status of nurses by holding related courses and workshops, so that by this means, we can witness the growth and improvement of their courage and moral sensitivity. AbstractDr. Ruth Westheimer, a significant figure in sexuality education, revolutionized how we discuss human sexuality. Known for her candid approach, she played a critical role in advancing conversations around intimacy, contraception, and safer sex during the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1928, Dr. Ruth’s early life as a Holocaust survivor deeply influenced her commitment to education. Her remarkable journey from a Swiss orphanage to earning a doctorate in psychology reflects her resilience. As a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I found a personal connection with Dr. Ruth’s story and mission. Her legacy as an educator and advocate for sexual literacy continues to inspire those in the field, reminding us of the transformative power of education and the importance of honoring our past. Background: While health advocacy is an established physician role, most of the educational attention to advocacy has been at the individual patient level. Public advocacy—efforts to effect change at the level of communities, populations or society—remains a poorly defined concept whose educational foundation is underdeveloped. To enrich our understanding of public advocacy, we explored how professionals in two disciplines—medicine and law—have approached its tasks and experienced its challenges. Methods: Using constructivist grounded theory, we interviewed 18 professionals (nine physicians, eight lawyers and one qualified in both disciplines) who engage in public advocacy. We used constant comparison throughout an iterative process of data collection and analysis to develop an understanding of what it means to be a professional in the public domain. Results: Public advocacy work occurs at the intersection of personal and professional identities. Lawyers perceived public advocacy as an embedded element of their professional identity, while physicians more often viewed it as outside their core professional scope. Nonetheless, professional identity influenced how both groups conducted their work. Physicians were more likely to draw on professional attitudes (e.g. their orientation towards evidence and their trusted social position), while lawyers were more likely to draw on professional skills (e.g. building an argument and litigating test cases). The work requires courage and often demands that individuals tolerate personal and professional risk. Conclusion: While medicine has enshrined advocacy in its competency frameworks, it is the legal profession whose practitioners more fully embrace advocacy as intrinsic to professional identity, suggesting that roles are difficult to engineer or impose. Collaboration across public‐facing professions like medicine and law creates opportunities to reimagine public advocacy, to identify the skills required to do it well and to refresh educational strategies. Public advocacy is high‐stakes work. This paper explores how doctors and lawyers navigate this often‐risky activity and speculates on what medicine might learn from law. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

IDENTITY (Psychology) , *SELF , *COURAGE , *HUMAN beings - Abstract
This paper explores the role of existential vulnerability in the experience of personal identity and how identity is found and created. Existential vulnerabilities mark a boundary between what humans can bring about willfully or manipulate to their advantage and what is resistant to such actions. These vulnerabilities have their origin, on an ontological level, in fundamental conditions of human existence. At the same time, they have implications on a psychological level when it comes to self-experience and identity formation. Narrative and value-based identity depend on how a person relates to finitude and the ambiguous side of lived experience. Relational identity depends on how a person relates to existential aloneness and the fact that the meaning and value of our actions are partly out of our control; they are always also dependent on other people's responses to us. Bodily identity makes us feel continuous and real, but at the same time vulnerable to death and the gaze and actions of others. Being 'thrown' into an arbitrary life context is also a form of existential vulnerability. Authentic psychological identities can develop by giving meaning to these circumstances and balancing acceptance of existential vulnerability with the courage to make choices and act. GRAIN yields , *GENOTYPES , *COURAGE , *COMMON bean , *PROBABILITY theory - Abstract
Recommendation of new varieties is supported by value for cultivation and use (Valor de Cultivo e Uso [VCU]) trials. For a more reliable recommendation, it is necessary to identify methodologies that make better use of the genotype‐by‐environment interaction (GEI). The methodology proposed by Dias et al. is an alternative to take advantage of the GEI; it considers concepts of Bayesian models and probability methods of adaptation and stability analysis in a single model, classifying the genotypes regarding possible success based on a defined selection intensity. Thus, the aim of the present study was to explore the use of Bayesian probabilistic method for the purpose of recommend common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) varieties. To that end, we used grain yield data from 15 genotypes of common bean evaluated in 42 environments distributed over different crop seasons, years, and locations in regard to VCU trials conducted from 2016 to 2018. Under a predefined selection intensity of 30%, the genotypes with greater marginal probability of superior performance were G01, G14, G07, G11, and G02. The genotypes with greater marginal probability of superior stability were G06, G07, G04, G03, and G12. Considering the joint probability of superior performance and yield stability, the genotypes G07, G14, G01, G11, and G04 stand out. Therefore, the use of the Bayesian probabilistic method showed promise in recommendation of common bean varieties. Core Ideas: Reliable recommendations of common bean varieties can be obtained from probabilist Bayesian models.High‐performance and stable common bean varieties were identified for tropical conditions.Probability methods can minimize risk in decision‐making for broad and specific variety recommendation. Plain Language Summary: Recommendation of varieties is supported by multi‐environment trials (MET). In MET, in addition to genetic and environmental effects, there is an interaction between these (GEI). According to the study of Dias et al., the methodology to take advantage of the GEI is based in Bayesian probabilistic models. Thus, the aim of the present study was to explore the use of Bayesian probabilistic method proposed by Dias et al. for recommending common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) varieties. To that end, we used grain yield data from 15 genotypes of common bean evaluated in 42 environments. Under a predefined selection intensity of 30%, the genotypes with greater joint probability of superior performance and yield stability were G07, G14, G01, G11 and G04.
