Driving posture can lead to musculoskeletal pain. Most work focuses on the lower back; therefore, we know little about automobile seat design and neck posture. This study evaluated an automobile driver seat that individualized upper back support to improve head and neck posture. Specifically, we examined the system's impact on anterior head translation with secondary outcomes of spine posture and perceptions of comfort/well-being compared with a control. Forty participants were block randomized to experience either the activated or deactivated version of the same seating system first. Participants completed two 30-minute simulated driving trials, separated by washout, with continuous measures of anterior head translation, spine posture, and pelvis orientation. Perceptions of comfort/well-being were assessed by survey and open-ended questions immediately following each condition. Small, but statistically significant decreases in anterior head translation and posterior pelvic tilt occurred with the activated seat system. Participants reported lower satisfaction with the activated seat system. Order of the 2 seat conditions affected differences in pelvis orientation and participant perceptions of comfort/well-being. An anthropometric-based seat system targeting upper back support can significantly affect head and pelvic posture but not satisfaction during simulated driving. College years are a formative life stage; however, students who identify as a sexual minority participate in insufficient physical activity. This study examined differences in level of comfort 1) with/in campus recreation facilities overall, and 2) using specific amenities, by sexual orientation. Students at four public universities completed online surveys assessing perceived comfort using their campus recreation facility. Among participants (n = 160), Kruskal-Wallis analyses showed comfort using campus recreation facilities, free weights, non-intramural sports,and intramural sports was significantly higher among heterosexual students compared to sexual minority students (all p < 0.005). These findings highlight inequities in comfort using campus recreation facilities and provide evidence of the need for inclusive recreation spaces for all students regardless of sexual orientation. Future research is needed to assess LBGTQ+ student's health disparities related to campus recreation facility use and how to increase perceived comfort for all students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a critical emergency condition that affects all aspects of health. Patients with MI need specialized care in the Coronary care unit (CCU). The main goal of care is to ensure their comfort, which can be significantly affected by their illness and hospitalization. This study aims to explore MI patients' perceptions of support network challenges to ensure comfort in the CCU. Methods: A qualitative approach was adopted, and semi-structured interviews and notes were used for collecting data between 2020 and mid-2021. The participants were 27 MI patients in our country who had been hospitalized in the CCU of the University Heart Hospital. They were selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using conventional content analysis by Graneheim and Lundman. Findings: The results of this research were revealed in the form of a "support network" theme comprising five categories: "Physical support", "Mental occupations", "Presence of peers", "relatives support "and "Spiritual strategies". Conclusion: The study results showed that MI patients, in critical condition, receiving care, and hospitalized in the CCU require continuity in their support network to ensure comfort. Elastomeric interphases (liners) protect the residual limb and distribute mass bearing to the prosthetic socket. However, discomfort due to excessive sweat and heat in the residual limb is the most relevant factor that negatively affects the quality of life in transfemoral prosthetics users. Additionally, a warm and humid environment and the non-uniform mass distribution can compromise blood flow in the residual limb; these factors favor the development of skin lesions, the dropout rate of prosthetic use, and subsequent amputations. Previous mathematical models that predict skin temperature distribution based on Pennes' model and explain the Fourier and non-Fourier thermic response are available. However, these models require knowledge of difficult parameters to obtain in conditions that lead to amputation. Therefore, the current study aims to propose an experimentally based method to design a personalized liner with areas of different diffusivity rates by using perforations according to thermal needs, preserving the mechanical properties of the liner. After thermal and mechanical characterization, we elaborated a personalized plane liner according to the thermal expression of the anterior thigh using infrared analysis. Gambiered Guangdong silk, which involves an eco-friendly processing technique, unique double-sided structure and excellent wearing properties, is an ecological textile dyed with the pigment extracted from Dioscorea Cirrhosa Lour. There have been a lot of reports on the structure and properties of the silk. As a summer cooling fabric, gambiered Guangdong silk has excellent thermal and moisture comfort properties such as coolness, breathability, and moisture permeability. However, the study of the evolution of thermal-moisture comfort during the preparation of gambiered Guangdong silk has not been reported in the literature. Thus, this study attempts to clarify the evolution of the thermal comfort and moisture comfort based on the traditional preparation process of gambiered Guangdong silk. In this experiment, gambiered Guangdong silk was prepared according to the traditional processing technology. Firstly, pigment was extracted from Dioscorea Cirrhosa Lour. Then, the white silk fabric was dyed with the pigment, and exposed to the sun. This dyeing-exposure process was repeated about 20 times. Subsequently, when the pigmentation on the fabric reached a certain thickness, the silk was coated with mud. Finally, because the dyed and mud-coated fabrics were stiffer, fabrics were finished by sand washing. According to the characterization of the thermal performance test, there was negligible alteration in thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity, the Clo value, warmth retention rate and heat transfer coefficient. The result show that the heat transfer index of the fabric remained relatively stable during the preparation process, demonstrating the same excellent heat transfer performance (cooling characteristics) as the blank silk fabrics of the same specification. Furthermore, the moisture comfort of gambiered Guangdong silk was clarified. During the manufacturing processing of gambiered Guangdong silk, the breathability of the fabric gradually decreased. There was no significant difference in moisture permeability. The moisture regain rate increased whereas the saturated water absorption rate decreased. After dyeing and mud coating, the fabric had good wettability and unidirectional water transfer. After sand washing, the fabric was hydrophobic and had no moisture absorption and conductivity. The results show that gambiered Guangdong silk has excellent moisture comfort. Finally, in order to verify that the thermal-moisture comfort of gambiered Guangdong silk is related to the formation of the coating structure of the fabric, the surface morphology of the fabric was observed and analyzed. From the SEM images, it can be observed that the tight coating structure is formed on the surface of the silk, and the pores between the fibers are reduced. That is why gambiered Guangdong silk has outstanding thermal-moisture transfer properties after dyeing and mud coating. Through the analysis of the surface morphology of the silk, it is obvious that the surface of the fabric is damaged and the fibers are broken and fleece after sand washing. That is why the silk has hydrophobic property. This study clarifies the evolution of the thermal-moisture comfort in the preparation process of gambiered Guangdong silk and may pave the path for the standardization of its industrial production. To determine the effect of music applied during the ROP examination on pain, comfort, and physiological parameters in preterm infants. The sample of this prospective randomized controlled double-blind experimental study consisted of 28 preterm infants who were examined for ROP of a tertiary hospital in the Neonatal Unit. Data were collected with a Questionnaire, Physiological Parameters Observation Form (PPOF), Revised-Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP-R), and Premature Infant Comfort Scale (PICS). The results revealed that the crying times of the infants in the experimental group were shorter than the infants in the control group. The preterm infants in the experimental group had statistically lower PIPP-R scores during and after the procedure than the PIPP-R scores of the infants in the control group (p < 0.001) and the music applied to the preterm infants resulted in a mean decrease of 3.857 in the post-procedure and pre-procedure PIPP-R scores (p < 0.05). While there was no statistical difference between the pre-procedure and pre-procedural PICS scores of the preterm infants in the experimental and control groups (p = 0.599; p = 117), the post-procedure PICS values of the preterm infants in the experimental group were found to be lower than those of the control group (p < 0.001). It was found that the music applied to preterm infants during the ROP examination resulted in a mean decrease of 1.286 in PICS scores after the procedure and before the procedure (p < 0.05). It was determined that the music listened to during the ROP examination decreased the PIPP-R pain scores of preterm infants, had a positive effect on the PICS scores after the procedure, but did not affect the physiological parameters positively. In addressing the critical issue of right-of-way conflicts in mixed-traffic environments, this paper introduces a novel shared right-of-way driving strategy that encompasses two guiding frameworks for resolution. The first framework applies to active lane changing. Before lane changing occurs, this framework allocates the right of way for autonomous vehicles (AVs). Based on the allocated right of way, the AVs decide whether to send a request for a shared right of way to relevant vehicles. To enhance lane-changing comfort, the vehicle assesses whether the variance of roll and lateral acceleration exceeds a preset threshold, ultimately deciding whether to proceed with the lane change. The second framework pertains to passive lane changing. After detecting an obstacle, this framework allocates the right of way. The AVs calculate acceleration based on their speed and distance from the obstacle, using this information to determine whether to change lanes or decelerate in order to avoid the obstacle. If lane changing is chosen, further evaluation is necessary. Based on the allocated right of way, the AVs decide whether to request a shared right of way from relevant vehicles. To improve lane-changing comfort, the AVs compare the variance of roll and lateral acceleration with that of pitch and longitudinal acceleration, and then they decide whether to proceed with the lane change. The proposed strategy has been validated in various scenarios, including high-speed (105 km/h), low speed (13 km/h), and general scenarios with AVs and obstacles at a distance of 125 m. Despite a growing literature, experiments directly related to attachment are still needed. We explored brain processes involved in two aspects of attachment, distress and comfort. Seventy-eight healthy adult males with different attachment styles (secure, avoidant, and anxious) viewed distress, comfort, complicity-joy and neutral images (picture database BAPS-Adult) in an fMRI block design. ROIs from the modules described in the functional Neuro-Anatomical Model of Attachment (Long et al. 2020) were studied. Secure participants used more co- and self-regulation strategies and exhibited a higher activation of the reward network in distress and comfort viewing, than insecure participants. Avoidant participants showed the lower brain activations. Their approach and reward modules were the least activated in distress and comfort. Anxious participants presented both higher activations of the approach and aversion modules during complicity-joy. In addition, comfort and complicity-joy were processed differently according to attachment styles and should be differentiated among positive stimuli to disentangle attachment processes. Comfort has traditionally been assessed as a single deterministic index that can be assigned to each railway vehicle type (at a given speed on a given track quality level). However, it is now well established that passengers influence vibration and, as a consequence, occupancy level and seating arrangement influence comfort, thus turning it into a stochastic variable. The concept of Compound Comfort, presented in Palomares et al. [Is the standard ride comfort index an actual estimation of railway passenger comfort? Veh Syst Dyn. 2022;1–14. doi: ], is used in this paper to evaluate several train types. Simplified models are used as a first approximation for vibration analysis. Despite model simplicity, since the number of possible seating arrangements is intractable, a Monte Carlo procedure is used to obtain compound comfort probability density distributions from a randomised subset of cases. The results from the work presented here will show that the information provided by stochastic distributions is much richer than a single deterministic index. Nevertheless, obtaining distributions from Monte Carlo tests (numerical or experimental) is impractical for any commercial assessment of comfort. Therefore, an inference procedure is called for and has been devised in order to obtain probability density function parameters from just one tare test, along with ten runs of a half laden test. This recipe has been adapted from one presented previously to be able to accommodate the skewed distributions that emerge when a wide range of train configurations is considered. Introduction: Suicide is a leading cause of death, making suicide prevention a major public health priority. Increasing understanding of factors influencing suicidal behavior is paramount. Previous research has implicated psychological closeness, characterized by perceptions of how close/distant or attached/detached one feels to a particular object, as a cognitive factor that influences suicidal behavior. However, a better understanding of how psychological closeness to suicide methods is conceptualized by relevant populations is needed to improve its assessment and understand how it may confer risk for suicide. Methods: The goal was to refine the conceptualization of psychological closeness to suicide methods by incorporating feedback from relevant populations. We conducted 30 interviews with those primarily identifying as having lived experience of suicide (n = 10), clinicians who work with suicidal patients (n = 11), and suicide researchers (n = 9). A rigorous thematic approach using NVivo software was used to uncover common themes. Results: Primary themes included familiarity, comfort, and attachment, with one emerging theme of symbolism. We define these themes, provide context to their meaning, and share exemplary quotes across diverse participants. Conclusion: We consider clinical, research, and policy implications from an interdisciplinary lens and discuss the strengths and limitations of this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study is to investigate the symptoms, types, etiology, and assessment methods of motion sickness in autonomous vehicles in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of its occurrence mechanism and emphasize the significance of enhancing autonomous vehicle algorithms for improved ride comfort. Thus, this paper provides a synthesis and discussion of various theories while exploring strategies for mitigating motion sickness from three perspectives: passengers, vehicles, and external equipment. Firstly, it summarizes the clinical manifestations and classification of motion sickness while conducting an in-depth analysis of associated factors. Secondly, it evaluates different approaches for quantitatively measuring the severity and extent of motion sickness. Subsequently, it analyzes the reasons behind increased motion sickness caused by autonomous vehicles and emphasizes the importance of algorithmic improvements to enhance travel comfort. Finally, mitigation strategies are proposed considering passengers' needs as well as advancements in accurate motion prediction models and optimization techniques for autonomous planning and control algorithms that can effectively reduce the risk of motion sickness. As application scenarios for autonomous technology continue to expand, meeting user requirements while ensuring safety has become a benchmark for assessing technical proficiency. Therefore, promoting unmanned travel services necessitates a thorough analysis of existing issues related to autonomous technology along with prioritizing algorithm design enhancements through effective means to achieve an enhanced user experience. This article provides healthcare assistants (HCAs) and assistant practitioners (APs) with an understanding related to the critical activity of controlling body temperature in patients. Recognising the intricate interplay of physiological, psychological, sociocultural, environmental and politicoeconomic factors at play is imperative for the provision of holistic and patient-centred care. The article emphasises the physiological mechanisms involved in temperature regulation, as well as the significance of maintaining a stable body temperature for optimal patient wellbeing. It addresses the various methods of assessing body temperature, including oral, rectal, axillary, tympanic and skin measurements, with a focus on choosing the most appropriate method based on the patient’s condition. Aiming at the limitations of traditional train comfort research in the long-term service monitoring of subway train comfort, this paper presents a comprehensive evaluation method of subway train comfort based on mobile terminals. By investigating the types of sensors integrated in mobile terminals, it is determined that the factors affecting the comfort of subway trains are vibration, noise and illuminance. Combined with questionnaire survey and analytic hierarchy process, the weight coefficients of each factor's influence on the comfort of subway trains are determined. The evaluation models and evaluation standards of each factor are established based on the existing standards and simulation experiments, and then the evaluation method of subway train comfort is determined. The proposed method is integrated into the self-developed mobile terminal APP to realize large-scale collection of train comfort data. In order to objectively verify the feasibility of this method, the experimental data from professional measuring instruments, mobile terminals and wearable devices are collected in the subway line experiment. The results of the analysis show that: when the train is running smoothly, the relative errors of the vibration, noise and illuminance comfort evaluation values collected by the mobile terminal shall not exceed 5%, 15% and 18% respectively; the noise comfort evaluation value accounts for 67.8% and 76.5% of the total evaluation value under two working conditions, therefore the greatest influence on train comfort is noise; the evaluation results of subway train comfort based on the proposed method tend to be consistent with the analysis results of heart rate variability frequency domain indicators (LF, HF and LF / HF ), which objectively verify the feasibility of the evaluation method. The mobile terminal-driven subway train comfort evaluation method can provide new ways and ideas for large-scale monitoring of subway train comfort and long-term service performance evolution analysis. A well-designed learning environment is crucial for enhancing both the physical and mental health of students, which in turn improves their learning outcomes. However, many classrooms in China, particularly in rural areas, were constructed and designed several decades ago, so it is essential to redesign these learning spaces to align with the requirements of 21st Century education. This study aims to develop the stimulation, individuality, and naturalness (SIN) theoretical framework for identifying the learning environment of current classroom by examining the full range of sensory effects experienced by individuals. This study conducted qualitative interviews with 72 students and 18 class teachers to explore major issues with their existing learning spaces in four primary schools in Shandong Province of China. The results show that high temperatures and poor air quality are frequently raised by respondents, which directly impact students' learning experience. This finding confirms naturalness likely underpins human comfort. Teachers and students felt that the classroom should be improved from the aspects of crowded space, imperceptible decoration, congestion and monotonous layouts. Well maintained cycleways will encourage more people to cycle, as the condition of cycleways is important for the safety, accessibility and riding comfort of cyclists. Despite that, only a few models used to describe the quality of service for cyclists take the surface condition into account. Objective measuring methods are needed to enable reliable and effective assessment of surface conditions, and measurable performance criteria related to the needs of cyclists should be developed. The purpose of this study has been to test the reliability and validity of using accelerometers in smartphones to assess the riding comfort on cycleways. A smartphone application converting three-dimensional accelerometer measurements into a single indicator for cycleways has been used to assess road surfaces in two field studies, in Sweden and Norway, respectively. Both studies assessed test sections of varying quality. To relate the measurements to subjective riding comfort assessments by cyclists, recruited cyclists collected quantitative data using the app, whilst also rating their perceived riding comfort by completing a survey. Measurements were also related to standard road surface condition indicators, generated from a road surface tester equipped with 19 laser sensors: international roughness index (IRI), mega- and macro-texture. The results show that it is possible to describe the unevenness of a cycleway using the technology present in smartphones. A software application can be used to collect and analyse data from the acceleration sensors in the phone, which can then be used to describe the riding comfort of cyclists. It is mainly the unevenness in the 50-1000 mm size-range that create the greatest discomfort for cyclists, and intermittent vibrations are perceived as more uncomfortable than more evenly distributed vibrations. Sweat, both conscious and unconscious, has a major impact on how comfortable a fabric feels. On enhancing the thermal comfort property, fabric comfort is attained. This study aims to investigate the thermal comfort characteristics of bi-layer knitted structures composed of compact, ring-spun, air-vortex spun poly-cotton yarns for the outer layer and micro-denier polyester for the inner layer. The selection of polyester for the inner layer was influenced by the material's high water transfer capacity, light weight, and ease of maintenance. In order to achieve a better level of comfort, bi-layer textiles composed of air vortex cotton and micro denier polyester are suggested for active sportswear due to their superior thermal comfort qualities in both the inner and outer layers. When compared to conventional bi-layer structures, the bi-layer knitted fabric featuring micro-denier polyester for the outer and inner layers showed higher heat resistance, thermal conductivity, air permeability, and water vapour permeability. Emotional support on social media has become a popular way for people to seek comfort when facing failures and frustrations. This paper investigates the social practice of comforting strangers on the Chinese social media platform Douban. The emotional labour framework was adopted to examine the ways in which the comforting practice managed the emotions of both the comfortee and the comforter. A dataset of 400 replies was collected from Douban to analyse the use of comforting strategies and whether the conversation topic influenced their use. The study showed that comforters employed various strategies to manage distressed others’ emotions and their own emotions. The results showed a dichotomy between explicit and implicit comfort in managing comfortee emotions. Three types of replies for managing the comforter's emotions were observed, namely, a concealed reply, a projective reply, and a comparative reply. Aim Methods Results Conclusions The study aims to develop a protocol for the combined use of swaddling, facilitated tucking, expressed breast milk and sucrose administration methods in the orogastric tube (OGT) insertion procedure and evaluate its effectiveness.The randomized controlled trial was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between 15 February 2022 and 15 September 2022, with 175 preterms. Preterms at 32–34 gestational weeks were randomly allocated to five groups: routine care, swaddling + expressed breast milk, swaddling + sucrose, facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk and facilitated tucking + sucrose groups. The data were collected using the Preterm Descriptive Information Form, the Physiological Measurement Form, the COMFORTneo scale and the Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP).The facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk method was found to be more effective than the routine care (pdistress < 0.001; ppain = 0.031) and swaddling + expressed breast milk (pdistress = 0.004; ppain = 0.015) methods in reducing the estimated distress and PIPP pain level of preterms during the procedure. Two minutes after the procedure, the facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk method was more effective than the routine care (p < 0.001), swaddling + expressed breast milk (p = 0.011) and swaddling + sucrose (p = 0.002) methods in reducing the comfort level score.The facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk method is effective in reducing pain and distress and providing comfort during the OGT procedure.Clinical Trials ID: NCT05180058. Water vapour in the air is an essential element that directly affects all animate and inanimate constituents of the planet. It is a fundamental constituent in all interactions that characterize life and planetary systems. Water vapour in the air is distinctly associated with the functioning of the human sense organs. All five senses, i.e. smell, touch, sight, sound and taste respond to water vapour in the air. The sensory mechanisms determine a human being's physiological and psychological balance, which is the foundation of wellness, relevant on a planetary scale. However, the sensory mechanisms associated with water vapour in the built environment have not been discerned holistically, particularly its role in human wellness. The present article reviews sensory perceptions and responses attributed to humidity/water vapour in the built environment and examines its role in promoting human wellness, drawing insights from diverse interdisciplinary disciplines. In this paper, I use the figure of the air-conditioner to get at the bifurcated issues of access to comfort in the Anthropocene. I think through the phenomenological relations to the air-conditioner, using as my archive Aravind Adiga’s Booker-winning novel The White Tiger. I put forth the theory of what I call subaltern discomfort, arguing that who gets to be comfortable, and why, I argue, is a matter of increasing importance as the climate warms and air-conditioning becomes much more significant in the lives of people worldwide. Background: Associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy is the most prevalent liver disease that women typically experience during pregnancy. This study aimed to evaluate prenatal comfort, sleep, and quality of life in pregnant women with cholestasis. Methods: This cross-sectional study was implemented between November 2022 and June 2023 at Mardin Training and Research Hospital with 150 pregnant women who received a diagnosis of pregnancy-induced intrahepatic cholestasis and agreed to participate. The following tools were utilized to collect data: A personal information form exploring socio-demographic and obstetric characteristics of participants, the Prenatal Comfort Scale (PCS), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Form (WHOQOL-BREF). Results: The mean age of participants was 27.79 ± 6.33 years. The mean PCS and PSQI scores were 61.20 ± 5.84 and 9.52 ± 3.02, respectively. The mean scores of "physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and environmental health" sub-dimensions in WHOQOL-BREF were 10.63 ± 2.18, 10.48 ± 2.10, 11.31 ± 3.28, and 11.27 ± 2.10, respectively. A significant difference was found for PSQI regarding hospitalization status and change in sleep quality variables (p = 0.025 and p = 0.035, respectively). Conclusions: Cholestasis of pregnancy creates problems such as pruritus, body image changes, hospitalization, and poor sleep quality in women. This study showed that pregnant women with cholestasis had low levels of sleep quality and quality of life, implying that cholestasis affects their sleep quality, prenatal comfort levels, and quality of life in general. This study investigates the impact of different passenger rolling stock structures and train configurations on vibrations and noise generated during operation. Vibroacoustic measurements were performed during acceleration, constant speed, and braking phases to analyze the effects using statistical analysis according to the relevant standards, revealing a statistically significant relationship between the equivalent noise level and vibration dose. In the context of the expanding Warsaw metro network, which is adding new lines and modern rolling stock, trends in the development of metro rolling stock were analyzed using five different types of metro vehicles, from the oldest to the newest designs. Vehicle performance was ranked in the context of ride comfort using standards and combined vibration and noise measures. The research results allowed for a collective comparative assessment of the construction of individual types of passenger rolling stock in terms of vibroacoustic phenomena, thanks to which it is possible to assess the impact of modern solutions and the justification for investing in modern rolling stock. Newer trains generally record significantly lower vibration and noise levels. The difference between the oldest and the most modern vehicle types is 57% for the vibration acceleration level (0.08 ms−2 RMS) and 66% for the noise level (2.2 dB LAeq). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of sedation administration on clinical parameters, comfort status, intubation requirements, and the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) length of stay (LOS) in children with acute respiratory failure (ARF) receiving noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Methods: Thirteen PICUs in Spain participated in a prospective, multicenter, observational trial from January to December 2021. Children with ARF under the age of five who were receiving NIV were included. Clinical information and comfort levels were documented at the time of NIV initiation, as well as at 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h. The COMFORT-behavior (COMFORT-B) scale was used to assess the patients' level of comfort. NIV failure was considered to be a requirement for endotracheal intubation. Results: A total of 457 patients were included, with a median age of 3.3 months (IQR 1.3–16.1). Two hundred and thirteen children (46.6%) received sedation (sedation group); these patients had a higher heart rate, higher COMFORT-B score, and lower SpO2/FiO2 ratio than did those who did not receive sedation (non-sedation group). A significantly greater improvement in the COMFORT-B score at 3, 6, 12, and 24 h, heart rate at 6 and 12 h, and SpO2/FiO2 ratio at 6 h was observed in the sedation group. Overall, the NIV success rate was 95.6%-intubation was required in 6.1% of the sedation group and in 2.9% of the other group (p = 0.092). Multivariate analysis revealed that the PRISM III score at NIV initiation (OR 1.408; 95% CI 1.230–1.611) and respiratory rate at 3 h (OR 1.043; 95% CI 1.009–1.079) were found to be independent predictors of NIV failure. The PICU LOS was correlated with weight, PRISM III score, respiratory rate at 12 h, SpO2 at 3 h, FiO2 at 12 h, NIV failure and NIV duration. Sedation use was not found to be independently related to NIV failure or to the PICU LOS. Conclusions: Sedation use may be useful in children with ARF treated with NIV, as it seems to improve clinical parameters and comfort status but may not increase the NIV failure rate or PICU LOS, even though sedated children were more severe at technique initiation in the present sample. Ensuring comfort and safety for pedestrians is essential to the responsible introduction of automated or self-driving vehicles (SDV). Few studies have attempted to isolate the effect of vehicle automation on perceptions of pedestrian interactions with SDV, separate from the potentially confounding effects of vehicle operation or appearance, and we still have limited understanding of the explicit and implicit attitudes mediating those perceptions. The objectives of this study are to determine 1) if there is an "Autonomy Bias" in the population of British Columbia, Canada (i.e., whether people perceive pedestrian-SDV interactions as inherently more or less comfortable and safe than otherwise equivalent interactions with human-driven vehicles or HDV), and if so, 2) which personal attributes influence Autonomy Bias. We isolate the effect of vehicle autonomy on perceptions using a novel deception-based experiment in which 1,133 participants rate 8 video clips of pedestrian interactions in a crosswalk; all clips show HDV, but a random half of the videos for each participant are described as SDV. Results show that Autonomy Bias varies widely across the population, with a small but significantly (p < 0.05) negative mean value (i.e., SDV interactions are perceived as less comfortable and safe). To ensure that an average person is as comfortable crossing with SDV as they currently are with HDV (i.e., to offset their Autonomy Bias), SDV must allow at least 0.4 s additional passing time at crosswalks; at least 3.7 s additional time is needed to ensure equivalent comfort for 85 % of the population. The implicit attitude of Autonomy Bias is strongly related to but distinct from explicit, self-reported attitudes toward technology and SDV, and may improve with SDV familiarity. Aim: Abdominal massage facilitates gastric and colonic motility, reduces intra‐abdominal distension and increases circulation. In‐bed range of motion (ROM) exercise has effects on muscle strength, cardiac parameters and excretion. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of abdominal massage and in‐bed ROM exercise on gastrointestinal complications and patient comfort in intensive care patients receiving enteral nutrition. Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted in the internal intensive care units of two tertiary public hospitals. The sample consisted of 130 patients randomly assigned to three groups (abdominal massage = 44, in‐bed ROM exercise = 43, control = 43). The individuals received abdominal massage and in‐bed ROM exercises every morning before enteral feeding for 3 days. We assessed gastrointestinal complications and comfort levels of the patients 24 h after each intervention. Results: While the differences in abdominal distention, defecation status, constipation, and gastric residual volume complications were significant (p <.05), there was no significant difference in diarrhea and vomiting (p >.05). Comfort level showed a statistically significant change in the experimental groups in the in‐group comparison (p <.05). Conclusion: Abdominal massage and in‐bed ROM exercise reduce abdominal distention, constipation and gastric residual volume. Background: One of the scales most frequently used in the evaluation of newborn comfort levels is the Neonatal Comfort Behavior Scale (NCBS). It is important therefore that an increased use of the NCBS is encouraged through a more practical method of assessment. Objective: This study was carried out for the purpose of designing a means of assessing neonatal comfort levels by employing the techniques of artificial intelligence (AI). Methods: The AI-based study was conducted with 362 newborns under treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit of a hospital. A data collection form, the NCBS, and a camera system were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed with the SPSS Statistics 21.0 program. Descriptive statistics and Cohen κ test were employed in the analysis. Results: The 2 researchers named in the study first labeled the audiovisual recordings of the 362 newborns in the study. These labeled audiovisual recordings were used in training (80%) as well as testing (20%) the AI model. The AI model displayed a rate of success of 99.82%. Conclusion: It was ultimately seen that the AI model that had been developed was a successful tool that could be used to determine the comfort behavior levels of newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit. BACKGROUND: Using medical gowns with high protection against COVID-19 among healthcare workers (HCWs) may limit heat exchange, resulting in physiological challenges. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the physiological and neurophysiological responses of female HCWs when using two typical medical gowns at different temperatures during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Twenty healthy female HCWs participated in this study. Participants wore two types of medical gowns: Spunbond gown (SG) and laminate gown (LG). They walked on a treadmill in a controlled climate chamber for 30 minutes at three different temperatures (24, 28, and 32°C). Heart rate (HR), skin surface temperature (ST), clothing surface temperature (CT), ear temperature (ET), blood oxygen percentage (SaO2), galvanic skin response (GSR), and blood pressure were measured before and after walking on a treadmill. The study's results were analyzed using SPSS26. RESULTS: The study found that LG led to an average increase of 0.575°C in CT compared to SG at the same temperatures (P < 0.03). The average HR increased by 6.5 bpm in LG at 28°C compared to SG at a comfortable temperature (P = 0.01). The average ET in SG and GSR in LG at 32°C increased by 0.39°C and 0.25μS, respectively, compared to the comfortable temperature (P < 0.02). CONCLUSION: The study recommends maintaining a comfortable temperature range in hospitals to prevent physiological challenges among HCWs wearing medical gowns with high protection against COVID-19. Introduction: Acupressure and cold application are nonpharmacologic methods that midwives can use for labor pain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of ice massage applied to the SP6 acupressure point during labor on labor pain, labor comfort, labor duration, and anxiety. Methods: A single‐masked, randomized controlled trial was conducted with 100 nulliparous women, including 50 in the intervention group and 50 in the control group. Rotational ice massage was applied to the SP6 point on both legs of the pregnant women in the intervention group at 4 to 5 cm, 6 to 7 cm, and 8 to 9 cm dilation amounts during 3 contractions. Routine oxytocin was administered to all pregnant women to promote progress of labor. Standard midwifery care was provided to the control group. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), a partograph form, the Childbirth Comfort Questionnaire (CCQ), and the State‐Trait Anxiety Inventory State subscale. Result: The VAS pain scores of the pregnant women in the intervention group were significantly lower compared with the control group following the intervention at dilatations of 4 to 5 cm, 6 to 7 cm, and 8 to 9 cm (P =.001, P =.003, P <.001, respectively). The total CCQ and comfort level scores of the pregnant women in the intervention group at 8 to 9 cm cervical dilatation were significantly higher than the control group (P = 0.044, P =.027, respectively). Additionally, as the anxiety levels of the pregnant women increased, their total comfort scores decreased (P <.05). Discussion: Ice application to the SP6 point during stage 1 of childbirth reduced labor pain, increased comfort, and reduced anxiety levels. No adverse events were found in the intervention group with ice massage applied to the SP6 point. Therefore, this method can be used as a safe and effective midwifery intervention in childbirth. Biowall is one of the several innovative strategies people use to build a comfortable interior atmosphere with living plants. This research attempts to trace the gaps in the previous analysis as a 'state of the art' with a literature review method by focusing on the biowall method, area ratio and types of plants. Biowall performance is mainly related to the influence of thermal, visual, audial, and respiratory comfort. It is an essential topic used to induce atmospheric interiors, such as temperature, humidity, light intensity, sound insulation and absorption, CO2, HCHO, VOC, and particulate levels. The results showed that the empirical methods used were actual scale-up and down experiments, laboratories in test chambers, simulation with specific software, and case research on in-situ biowall. The comparison between the biowall and room size varied significantly due to the absence of a legal basis and reasons. Ferns and succulents were the most widely used species to induce atmospheric comfort. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct further research on biowall physical comfort based on multisensory simultaneously and determine its standard dimension and digital integration. Abstract Introduction Myocardial infarction (MI) is a critical emergency condition that affects all aspects of health. Patients with MI need specialized care in the Coronary care unit (CCU). The main goal of care is to ensure their comfort, which can be significantly affected by their illness and hospitalization. This study aims to explore MI patients’ perceptions of support network challenges to ensure comfort in the CCU. Methods A qualitative approach was adopted, and semi-structured interviews and notes were used for collecting data between 2020 and mid-2021. The participants were 27 MI patients in our country who had been hospitalized in the CCU of the University Heart Hospital. They were selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using conventional content analysis by Graneheim and Lundman. Findings The results of this research were revealed in the form of a “support network” theme comprising five categories: “Physical support”, “Mental occupations”, “Presence of peers”, “relatives support “and “Spiritual strategies”. Conclusion The study results showed that MI patients, in critical condition, receiving care, and hospitalized in the CCU require continuity in their support network to ensure comfort. The inconsistency between the components of each dimension leads to the challenge of ensuring comfort.

Well maintained cycleways will encourage more people to cycle, as the condition of cycleways is important for the safety, accessibility and riding comfort of cyclists. Despite that, only a few models used to describe the quality of service for cyclists take the surface condition into account. Objective measuring methods are needed to enable reliable and effective assessment of surface conditions, and measurable performance criteria related to the needs of cyclists should be developed. The purpose of this study has been to test the reliability and validity of using accelerometers in smartphones to assess the riding comfort on cycleways. A smartphone application converting three-dimensional accelerometer measurements into a single indicator for cycleways has been used to assess road surfaces in two field studies, in Sweden and Norway, respectively. Both studies assessed test sections of varying quality. To relate the measurements to subjective riding comfort assessments by cyclists, recruited cyclists collected quantitative data using the app, whilst also rating their perceived riding comfort by completing a survey. Measurements were also related to standard road surface condition indicators, generated from a road surface tester equipped with 19 laser sensors: international roughness index (IRI), mega- and macrotexture. The results show that it is possible to describe the unevenness of a cycleway using the technology present in smartphones. A software application can be used to collect and analyse data from the acceleration sensors in the phone, which can then be used to describe the riding comfort of cyclists. It is mainly the unevenness in the 50–1000 mm size-range that create the greatest discomfort for cyclists, and intermittent vibrations are perceived as more uncomfortable than more evenly distributed vibrations. Therefore, IRI is not a relevant measurement for describing the riding comfort of cyclists.

Fifty-eight habitual MFCL wearers wore stenfilcon A multifocal (stenA-MF; CooperVision Inc) and delefilcon A multifocal (delA-MF; Alcon) for two-weeks. Subjective ratings included satisfaction with comfort and vision and agreement questions.Results: Agreement with “I would like to wear this MFCL in the future” was taken to indicate success with each MFCL; agreement was significantly higher with stenA-MF. There was strong correlation between agreement responses for “I would like to wear this MFCL in the future” and “MFCL met my needs for vision” with both lenses (p< 0.01). However, it was only with stenA-MF, which had higher agreement responses to both statements (p< 0.05), that responses to these two statements correlated with satisfaction with end-of-day (EOD) comfort (p< 0.01). These differences in correlations between the two lenses are seemingly driven by greater satisfaction with stenA-MF for near and intermediate vision (p< 0.05).Conclusion: Subjective vision and comfort were only correlated when vision met the needs of most participants. Meeting participants’ needs for vision correlated strongly with wanting to wear a MFCL. Results indicate that meeting vision needs is more important than meeting comfort needs when influencing whether presbyopic patients continue wearing MFCLs.Keywords: comfort, vision, presbyopia, soft contact lens, correlation
