Abstract

Sweat, both conscious and unconscious, has a major impact on how comfortable a fabric feels. On enhancing the thermal comfort property, fabric comfort is attained. This study aims to investigate the thermal comfort characteristics of bi-layer knitted structures composed of compact, ring-spun, air-vortex spun poly-cotton yarns for the outer layer and micro-denier polyester for the inner layer. The selection of polyester for the inner layer was influenced by the material's high water transfer capacity, light weight, and ease of maintenance. In order to achieve a better level of comfort, bi-layer textiles composed of air vortex cotton and micro denier polyester are suggested for active sportswear due to their superior thermal comfort qualities in both the inner and outer layers. When compared to conventional bi-layer structures, the bi-layer knitted fabric featuring micro-denier polyester for the outer and inner layers showed higher heat resistance, thermal conductivity, air permeability, and water vapour permeability.
