Acquired resistance is inevitable in non–small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs) treated with osimertinib (OSI), and the mechanisms are not well defined. The MERTK ligand GAS6 promoted downstream oncogenic signaling in EGFR-mutated (EGFRMT) NSCLC cells treated with OSI, suggesting a role for MERTK activation in OSI resistance. Indeed, treatment with MRX-2843, a first-in-class MERTK kinase inhibitor, resensitized GAS6-treated NSCLC cells to OSI. Both GAS6 and EGF stimulated downstream PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK signaling in parental cells, but only GAS6 activated these pathways in OSI-resistant (OSIR) derivative cell lines. Functionally, OSIR cells were more sensitive to MRX-2843 than parental cells, suggesting acquired dependence on MERTK signaling. Furthermore, MERTK and/or its ligands were dramatically upregulated in EGFRMT tumors after treatment with OSI in both xenograft models and patient samples, consistent with induction of autocrine/paracrine MERTK activation. Moreover, treatment with MRX-2843 in combination with OSI, but not OSI alone, provided durable suppression of tumor growth in vivo, even after treatment was stopped. These data identify MERTK as a driver of bypass signaling in treatment-naive and EGFRMT-OSIR NSCLC cells and predict that MRX-2843 and OSI combination therapy will provide clinical benefit in patients with EGFRMT NSCLC.

Abstract Egg white (EW)‐derived hydrogels hold promise as biomaterials for in vitro cell culture due to their ability to mimic the extracellular matrix. However, their highly cross‐linked structures restrict their potential for in vivo applications, as they are unable to integrate dynamically with tissues before degradation. In this study, this limitation is addressed by introducing carbon dots (CDs) as cross‐linking agents for EW in a dilute aqueous solution. The resulting CDs‐crosslinked EW hydrogel (CEWH) exhibits tensile strength comparable to that of skin tissue and features a large pore structure that promotes cell infiltration. Subcutaneous implantation of CEWH demonstrated excellent integration with surrounding tissue and a degradation rate aligned with the hair follicles (HFs) regeneration cycle. This allows the long‐term regeneration and establishment of an M2 macrophage‐dominated immune microenvironment, which in turn promotes the re‐entry of HFs into the anagen phase from the telogen phase. Additionally, CEWH demonstrated potential as a wound dressing material. Overall, this study paves the way for utilizing EW as a versatile biomaterial for tissue engineering.

Recently, the development of materials with circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) has attracted numerous attentions owing to their potential applications in various fields. Among diverse mechanisms for the origin of chiroptical properties in low dimensional semiconductors (LDS), the self-assembly approach provides a powerful technique for acquisition of strong chiroptical activity. Benefiting from this approach, LDS could be endowed with CPL in which the dissymmetry factor, a vital parameter for evaluating the performance of CPL, could be greatly improved. In this review, state-of-the-art of self-assembled LDS will be summarized. The current challenges and perspectives in this emerging field are also presented. This review could not only provide insights of the fundamentals of self-assembled chirality, but also shine light for designing CPL-active functional nanomaterials toward their applications based on novel optoelectronic devices.

Micropillars have emerged as promising tools for a wide range of biological applications, while the influence of magnetic fields on cell behavior regulation has been increasingly recognized. However, the combined effect of micropillars and magnetic fields on cell behaviors remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the responses of H9c2 cells to ultramicromagnetic micropillar arrays using NdFeB as the tuned magnetic particles. We conducted a comparative analysis between PDMS micropillars and NdFeB/PDMS micropillars to assess their impact on cell function. Our results revealed that H9c2 cells exhibited significantly enhanced proliferation and notable cytoskeletal rearrangements on the ultramicromagnetic micropillars, surpassing the effects observed with pure PDMS micropillars. Immunostaining further indicated that cells cultured on ultramicromagnetic micropillars displayed heightened contractility compared to those on PDMS micropillars. Remarkably, the ultramicromagnetic micropillars also demonstrated the ability to decrease reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, thereby preventing F-actin degeneration. Consequently, this study introduces ultramicromagnetic micropillars as a novel tool for the regulation and detection of cell behaviors, thus paving the way for advanced investigations in tissue engineering, single-cell analysis, and the development of flexible sensors for cellular-level studies.

Ensuring accessible and high-quality healthcare worldwide requires field-deployable and affordable clinical diagnostic tools with high performance. In recent years, flexible electronics with wearable and implantable capabilities have garnered significant attention from researchers, which functioned as vital clinical diagnostic-assisted tools by real-time signal transmission from interested targets in vivo. As the most crucial and complex system of human body, cardiocerebral vascular system together with heart-brain network attracts researchers inputting profuse and indefatigable efforts on proper flexible electronics design and materials selection, trying to overcome the impassable gulf between vivid organisms and rigid inorganic units. This article reviews recent breakthroughs in flexible electronics specifically applied to cardiocerebral vascular system and heart-brain network. Relevant sensor types and working principles, electronics materials selection and treatment methods are expounded. Applications of flexible electronics related to these interested organs and systems are specially highlighted. Through precedent great working studies, we conclude their merits and point out some limitations in this emerging field, thus will help to pave the way for revolutionary flexible electronics and diagnosis assisted tools development.

Abstract When considered as orthogonal bases in distinct vector spaces, the unit vectors of polarization directions and the Laguerre–Gaussian modes of polarization amplitude are inseparable, constituting a so-called classical entangled light beam. Equating this classical entanglement to quantum entanglement necessary for computing purpose, we show that the parallelism featured in Shor’s factoring algorithm is equivalent to the concurrent light-path propagation of an entangled beam or pulse train. A gedanken experiment is proposed for executing the key algorithmic steps of modular exponentiation and Fourier transform on a target integer N using only classical manipulations on the amplitudes and polarization directions. The multiplicative order associated with the sought-after integer factors is identified through a four-hole diffraction interference from sources obtained from the entangled beam profile. The unique mapping from the fringe patterns to the computed order is demonstrated through simulations for the case $$N=15$$ N = 15 .

Abstract Owing to the conductance-adjustable performance, the emerging two-terminal memristors are promising candidates for artificial synapses and brain-spired neuromorphic computing. Although memristors based on molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) have displayed outstanding performance, such as thermal stability and high energy efficiency, reports on memristors based on MoS2 as the functional layer to simulate synaptic behavior are limited. Herein, a homologous Mo2C/MoS2-based memristor is prepared by partially sulfuring two-dimensional Mo2C crystal. The memristor shows good stability, excellent retention (~104 s) and endurance (>100 cycles), and a high ON/OFF ratio (>103). Moreover, for comprehensively mimicking biological synapses, the essential synaptic functions of the device are systematically analyzed, including paired-pulse facilitation (PPF), short-term plasticity (STP), long-term plasticity (LTP), long-term depression (LTD), and the transitions from STP to LTP. Notably, this artificial synapse could keep a high-level stable memory for a long time (60 s) after repeated stimulation. These results prove that our device is highly desirable for biological synapses, which show great potential for application in future high-density storage and neuromorphic computing systems.

Abstract Simultaneously enhancing the reaction kinetics, mass transport, and gas release during alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is critical to minimizing the reaction polarization resistance, but remains a big challenge. Through rational design of a hierarchical multiheterogeneous three‐dimensionally (3D) ordered macroporous Mo2C‐embedded nitrogen‐doped carbon with ultrafine Ru nanoclusters anchored on its surface (OMS Mo2C/NC‐Ru), we realize both electronic and morphologic engineering of the catalyst to maximize the electrocatalysis performance. The formed Ru‐NC heterostructure shows regulative electronic states and optimized adsorption energy with the intermediate H*, and the Mo2C‐NC heterostructure accelerates the Volmer reaction due to the strong water dissociation ability as confirmed by theoretical calculations. Consequently, superior HER activity in alkaline solution with an extremely low overpotential of 15.5 mV at 10 mA cm−2 with the mass activity more than 17 times higher than that of the benchmark Pt/C, an ultrasmall Tafel slope of 22.7 mV dec−1, and excellent electrocatalytic durability were achieved, attributing to the enhanced mass transport and favorable gas release process endowed from the unique OMS Mo2C/NC‐Ru structure. By oxidizing OMS Mo2C/NC‐Ru into OMS MoO3‐RuO2 catalyst, it can also be applied as efficient oxygen evolution electrocatalyst, enabling the construction of a quasi‐symmetric electrolyzer for overall water splitting. Such a device's performance surpassed the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/C || RuO2 electrolyzer. This study provides instructive guidance for designing 3D‐ordered macroporous multicomponent catalysts for efficient catalytic applications.

Abstract Although multiple emissive phosphors are of great fundamental interest and practical importance, it is still challenging to achieve full-color tunable luminescence in a single-component material. Herein, we present an antimony-doped lead halide single crystal (C10NH22)2PbBr4: Sb3+ with widely tunable red/green/blue/white luminescence. Extrinsic Sb3+ dopants provide host another active sites to capture photo-generated excitons, thus triggering blue/red dual emission. Moreover, a reversible thermal-induced phase transition transforms blue/red emission into green/red dual emission. Both two phases exhibit intriguing excitation-wavelength dependent emission, affording a whole color gamut covering the red-green-blue (RGB) color triangle on the CIE 1931 diagram. Experimental and theoretical calculation studies reveal two emitters work independently, which paves the way for the multimode optical control and promotes the development of multifunctional luminescent materials.

Abstract Metal‐free room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials are of great significance for many applications; however, they usually exhibit low efficiency and weak intensity. This article reports a new strategy for the preparation of a high‐efficiency and strong RTP materials from crystalline thermal‐annealed carbon dots (CDs) and boric acid (BA) composite (g‐t‐CD@BA) through grinding‐induced amorphous to crystallization transition. Amorphous thermal‐annealed CDs and BA composite (t‐CD@BA) is prepared following a thermal melting and super‐cooling route, where the CDs are fully dispersed in molten BA liquid and uniformly frozen in an amorphous thermal annealed BA matrix after super‐cooling to room temperature. Upon grinding treatment, the fracture and fragmentation caused by grinding promote the transformation of the high‐energy amorphous state to the lower energy crystalline counterparts. As a result, the CDs are uniformly in situ embedded in the BA crystal matrix. This method affords maximum uniform embedding of the CDs in the BA crystals, decreases nonradiative decay, and promotes intersystem crossing by restraining the free vibration of the CDs, thus producing strong RTP materials with the highest reported phosphorescence quantum yield (48%). Remarkably, RTP from g‐t‐CD@BA powder is strong enough to illuminate items with a delay time exceeding 9 s.

Abstract Efficient red emissive carbon dots (CDs) in aqueous solutions are very scarce for high performance bioimaging applications. In this work, we report a one-step solvothermal treatment to synthesize pure red emissive CDs (FA-CDs) from citric acid and urea in formic acid without complicated purification procedures. Photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 43.4% was observed in their dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. High PLQY up to 21.9% in aqueous solutions was achieved in their bovine serum albumin (BSA) composites (FA-CDs@BSA) with significantly enhanced multi-photon fluorescence. The strong surface electron-withdrawing structure of FA-CDs caused by the high content of C = O groups contributes for their pure red emission. Owing to the significantly enhanced single and multi-photon red fluorescence and enlarged particle sizes after composing with BSA, in vivo tumor imaging and two-photon fluorescence imaging of blood vessels in mouse ear have been realized via intravenous injection of FA-CDs@BSA aqueous solutions.

Abstract Owing to the intense carrier recombination and limited optical absorption, the as‐fabricated CsPbBr3 visible light photodetectors (PDs) are far from practical application. In this work, we have demonstrated performance‐improved metal‐semiconductor‐metal (MSM) structured CsPbBr3 visible light PDs realized by the decoration of sputtered Au nanoparticles (NPs). It showed that the Au NPs on the CsPbBr3 exhibited synergistic benefits including improving the photogenerated charge carriers’ lifetime and enhancing the optical absorption of the CsPbBr3, both of which are fundamental factors for the performance‐improved PDs. Electrical characterizations showed that localized Schottky junctions formed at the Au NPs/CsPbBr3 interface. In addition, optical investigations showed that effective resonant coupling occurred between the localized surface plasmon resonance effects of Au NPs and excitons in the CsPbBr3. As a result, the on‐off switching of the Au‐decorated CsPbBr3 photodetector increased by 13 times compared with that of the pristine one. Meanwhile, the peak photo sensitivity of the CsPbBr3 photodetector was increased from 0.088 to 0.61 A W‐1 after the decoration of Au NPs. It is believed that the results shown in this work will provide pathways for fabricating high‐performance CsPbBr3 PDs and other similar devices in the future.

Abstract Rapid, efficient, and precise cancer therapy is highly desired. Here, this work reports solvothermally synthesized photoactivatable Pt(IV)‐coordinated carbon dots (Pt‐CDs) and their bovine serum albumin (BSA) complex (Pt‐CDs@BSA) as a novel orange light‐triggered anti‐tumor therapeutic agent. The homogeneously distributed Pt(IV) in the Pt‐CDs (Pt: 17.2 wt%) and their carbon cores with significant visible absorption exhibit excellent photocatalytic properties, which not only efficiently releases cytotoxic Pt(II) species but also promotes hydroxy radical generation from water under orange light. When triggered with a 589 nm laser, Pt‐CDs@BSA possesses the ultrastrong cancer cell killing capacities of intracellular Pt(II) species release, hydroxyl radical generation, and acidification, which induce powerful immunogenic cell death. Activation of Pt‐CDs@BSA by a single treatment with a 589 nm laser effectively eliminated the primary tumor and inhibited distant tumor growth and lung metastasis. This study thus presents a new concept for building photoactivatable Pt(IV)‐enriched nanodrug‐based CDs for precision cancer therapy.

Abstract Carbon dots (CDs) have attracted significant interest as one of the most emerging photoluminescence (PL) nanomaterials. However, the realization of CDs with dominant near‐infrared (NIR) absorption/emission peaks in aqueous solution remains a great challenge. Herein, CDs with both main NIR absorption bands at 720 nm and NIR emission bands at 745 nm in an aqueous solution are fabricated for the first time by fusing large conjugated perylene derivatives under solvothermal treatment. With post‐surface engineering, the polyethyleneimine modified CDs (PEI‐CDs) exhibit enhanced PL quantum yields (PLQY) up to 8.3% and 18.8% in bovine serum albumin aqueous and DMF solutions, which is the highest PLQY of CDs in NIR region under NIR excitation. Density functional theory calculations support the strategy of fusing large conjugated perylene derivatives to achieve NIR emissions from CDs. Compared to the commercial NIR dye Indocyanine green, PEI‐CDs exhibit excellent photostability and much lower cost. Furthermore, the obtained PEI‐CDs illustrate the advantages of remarkable two‐photon NIR angiography and in vivo NIR fluorescence bioimaging. This work demonstrates a promising strategy of fusing large conjugated molecules for preparing CDs with strong NIR absorption/emission to promote their bioimaging applications.

Abstract Lightweight, flexibility, and low thickness are urgent requirements for next-generation high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials for catering to the demand for smart and wearable electronic devices. Although several efforts have focused on constructing porous and flexible conductive films or aerogels, few studies have achieved a balance in terms of density, thickness, flexibility, and EMI shielding effectiveness (SE). Herein, an ultrathin, lightweight, and flexible carbon nanotube (CNT) buckypaper enhanced using MXenes (Ti3C2Tx) for high-performance EMI shielding is synthesized through a facile electrophoretic deposition process. The obtained Ti3C2Tx@CNT hybrid buckypaper exhibits an outstanding EMI SE of 60.5 dB in the X-band at 100 μm. The hybrid buckypaper with an MXene content of 49.4 wt% exhibits an EMI SE of 50.4 dB in the X-band with a thickness of only 15 μm, which is 105% higher than that of pristine CNT buckypaper. Furthermore, an average specific SE value of 5.7 × 104 dB cm2 g−1 is exhibited in the 5-μm hybrid buckypaper. Thus, this assembly process proves promising for the construction of ultrathin, flexible, and high-performance EMI shielding films for application in electronic devices and wireless communications.

Abstract Carbon dots (CDs) with long‐wavelength absorptions and emissions are highly desired for biological applications. Herein, we report a new supra‐CDs strategy to construct long‐wavelength absorption bands based on fused CDs aggregates (f‐CDAs) through a concentration‐induced interparticle dehydration process among green emissive CDs (r‐CDs) under solvothermal treatment. The obtained fused f‐CDAs exhibit an obvious absorption band in 550–700 nm and significantly enhanced deep red fluorescence in N,N‐dimethylformamide with photoluminescence quantum yields of 15.6% and high photothermal conversion efficiency up to 26.1% in water. Benefiting from the high photothermal performance, in vivo tumor photothermal therapy has been realized via intratumoral injection of f‐CDAs under 655 nm laser irradiated at 0.5 W/cm2.

Abstract Flexible and wearable sensing devices have broad application prospects in bio-monitoring such as pulse measurement, motion detection and voice recognition. In recent years, many significant improvements had been made to enhance the sensor’s performance including sensitivity, flexibility and repeatability. However, it is still extremely complicated and difficult to prepare a patterned sensor directly on a flexible substrate. Herein, inspired by typography, a low-cost, environmentally friendly stamping method for the mass production of transparent conductive carbon nanotube (CNT) film is proposed. In this dry transfer strategy, a porous CNT block was used as both the seal and the ink; and Ecoflex film was served as an object substrate. Well-designed CNT patterns can be easily fabricated on the polymer substrate by engraving the target pattern on the CNT seal before the stamping process. Moreover, the CNT film can be directly used to fabricate ultrathin (300 μm) strain sensor. This strain sensor possesses high sensitivity with a gauge factor (GF) up to 9960 at 85% strain, high stretchability (> 200%) and repeatability (> 5000 cycles). It has been used to measure pulse signals and detect joint motion, suggesting promising application prospects in flexible and wearable electronic devices.

Abstract Nanocarbon materials represent one of the hottest topics in physics, chemistry, and materials science. Preparation of nanocarbon materials by zeolite templates has been developing for more than 20 years. In recent years, novel structures and properties of zeolite‐templated nanocarbons have been evolving and new applications are emerging in the realm of energy storage and conversion. Here, recent progress of zeolite‐templated nanocarbons in advanced synthetic techniques, emerging properties, and novel applications is summarized: i) thanks to the diversity of zeolites, the structures of the corresponding nanocarbons are multitudinous; ii) by various synthetic techniques, novel properties of zeolite‐templated nanocarbons can be achieved, such as hierarchical porosity, heteroatom doping, and nanoparticle loading capacity; iii) the applications of zeolite‐templated nanocarbons are also evolving from traditional gas/vapor adsorption to advanced energy storage techniques including Li‐ion batteries, Li–S batteries, fuel cells, metal–O2 batteries, etc. Finally, a perspective is provided to forecast the future development of zeolite‐templated nanocarbon materials.

Circularly-polarized and angular-resolved magneto-photoluminescence spectroscopy was carried out to study the free A exciton 1S state in wurtzite ZnO at 5 K. The Γ _7 symmetry of the top valence band symmetry is confirmed according to the unique selection rules of Zeeman splitting lines. The out-of-plane component B _∥ of the magnetic field, which is parallel to ZnO's c -axis, leads to linear Zeeman splitting of both the dipole-allowed Γ _5 exciton state and the weakly allowed Γ _1 /Γ _2 exciton states. The in-plane field B _⊥ , which is perpendicular to the c -axis, increases the oscillator strength of the weak Γ _1 /Γ _2 states by forming a mixed exciton state. For the Γ _7 symmetry, the lower energy Zeeman splitting peak of the weak Γ _1 /Γ _2 can only be σ _+ polarization.
