2. Investigation on a suspected outbreak of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii nosocomial infection in an intensive care unit

Abstract

ObjectiveTo investigate a suspected outbreak of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii （CRAB） nosocomial infection in an intensive care unit （ICU） and provide scientific evidence for prevention and control of multi-drug resistant nosocomial infection.MethodsClinical and epidemiological data of 4 patients with CRAB infection were retrospectively investigated in the ICU of Renji Hospital in November 2021. Environmental hygiene monitoring and multilocus sequence typing （MLST） were conducted and intervention measures were taken.ResultsA total of 4 cases with CRAB infection were identified， among which 1 case was determined to be community-acquired and 3 cases were hospital-acquired. The isolated strains shared the same drug resistance， and were all classified into ST368 type. In the surface and hand samples （n=40）， 2 CRAB strains were detected in the air filter beside the bed of the first case， with a detection rate of 5%. After adopting comprehensive prevention and control strategies， including environmental cleaning and disinfection， hand hygiene， staff management and training， and supervision， no similar case with CRAB infection was found.ConclusionThis suspected outbreak of CRAB nosocomial infection may be induced by inadequate environmental cleaning and disinfection， and inadequate implementation of hand hygiene. Timely identification， investigation， and targeted measures remain crucial to effective control of possible nosocomial infection.

15. K+-Specification with Flavone P0 Probe in a G-Quadruplex DNA

Abstract

G-quadruplex (G4) DNA is considered as a prospective therapeutic target due to its potential biological significance. To understand G4 biological roles and function, a G4-specific fluorescent probe is necessary. However, it is difficult for versatile G4 to precisely recognize without perturbing their folding dynamics. Herein, we reported that flavone P0 can be a fluorescent probe for G4 DNA-specific recognition and have developed a highly selective detection of K+ion by dimeric G4/P0 system. When comparing various nucleic acid structures, including G4, i-motif, ss/ds-DNA, and triplex, an apparent fluorescence enhancement is observed in the presence of G4 DNA for 85-fold, but only 8-fold for non-G4 DNA. Furthermore, based on fluorescent probe of flavone P0 for G4 DNA screening, the noncovalent dimeric G4/P0 system is exploited as a K+sensor, that selectively responds to K+with a 513-fold fluorescence enhancement and a detection range for K+ion concentration from 0 to 500 mM. This K+sensor also has a remarkably anti-interference ability for other metal cations, especially for a high concentration of Na+. These results have demonstrated that flavone P0 is an efficient tool for monitoring G-quadruplex DNA and endows flavone P0 with bioanalytical and medicinal applications.

Abstract

We found that under oxidative stress conditions, the coexistence of human telomeric DNA (HT-DNA) and a copper-terpyridine metallodrug can accelerate dopamine oxidation. The unwinding of HT-DNA from a duplex to cytosine-rich (C-rich) and guanine-rich (G-rich) single strands promotes dopamine oxidation in a general order of C-rich > G-rich > duplex. 19. Thermal Performance Analysis of Porous Foam-Assisted Flat-Plate Solar Collectors with Nanofluids.

Abstract

This study proposed a model of a porous media-assisted flat-plate solar collector (FPSC) using nanofluid flow. The heightened thermal efficiency of FPSC undergoes numerical scrutiny, incorporating various factors for analysis, including aspects like the configuration of the porous block introduced, Darcy number (Da = 10−5~10−2), types of nanoparticles, volume fraction (φ), and mixing ratio (φc). The numerical findings indicate that the dominant factor in the channel is the global Nusselt number (Nug). As the Darcy number rises, there is an improvement in the heat transfer performance within the channel. Simultaneously, for the case of Re = 234, φ = 3%, and φc = 100%, the Nug in the channel reaches a maximum value of 6.80, and the thermal efficiency can be increased to 70.5% with the insertion of rectangular porous blocks of Da = 10−2. Finally, the performance evaluation criteria (PEC) are employed for a comprehensive assessment of the thermal performance of FPSC. This analysis considers both the improved heat transfer and the pressure drop in the collector channel. The FPSC registered a maximum PEC value of 1.8 when rectangular porous blocks were inserted under conditions of Da = 10−2 and Re = 234 and the nanofluid concentrations of φ = 3% and φc = 100%. The findings can be provided to technically support the future commercial applications of FPSC. Abstract

Objective: To explore the incidence rate of aspirin resistance (AR) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in the plateau, and analyze its correlation with clinical influencing factors and serological indicators. Methods: In this retrospective study, 90 patients with CHD who had lived in the plateau for a long time (>10 years) and received treatment were selected as the subjects. Patients were divided into the AR group (11-dehydrothromboxane B2 (11-DH-TXB(2)) >1500 pg/mg) and aspirin sensitivity group (AS group, 11-DH-TXB(2) ≤1500 pg/mg) according to the content of 11-DH-TXB(2) in the urine. The differences in gender, body weight, blood pressure and heart rate between the two groups were compared, and the correlation of these indexes with the incidence rate of AR was analyzed. Moreover, serum indicators were detected. Multiple variable binary logistic regression was used to detect the independent risk factors for AR.
