Abstract Background Depression and anxiety significantly impact the quality of life in individuals with Cushing’s disease (CD), which originates from pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs), yet our understanding of the underlying mechanisms is limited. There is substantial evidence linking gut microbes to depression, anxiety, and endocrinology. Results The gut bacterial phenotype of patients with Cushing’s disease was significantly different from that of the control group, and when the mice were treated with fecal bacteria from these patients, both anxiety- and depression-like behavior were significantly increased. However, this effect can be alleviated by supplementing with 2-(14, 15-epoxyeicosatrienoyl) glycerol (2–14,15-EG) which was found at reduced levels in the peripheral blood of mice treated with coprofecal bacteria from Cushing’s disease. In this process, the effects of hormone levels and immune factors were not significant. In addition, in an animal model, corticosterone has been observed to affect behavioral changes in mice through gut microbiota composition, clarifying the cause-and-effect relationship between hormones, microbiota, and behavior. Finally, there was no significant difference in gut microbiome composition and its effects on mouse behavior in patients with Cushing’s disease with different levels of depression and anxiety. Conclusions In summary, this research enhances our current understanding of how gut microbes in patients with Cushing’s disease contribute to depression and anxiety, offering novel insights for clinical treatment approaches. Abstract Chronic heart failure (CHF) is closely associated with inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiomyocytes. This study attempts to investigate the effects of microRNA-21-3p (miR-21-3p) on macrophage polarization and mitophagy in CHF. Here we found miR-21-3p was upregulated in CHF and negatively correlated with carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1A (CPT1A). L-palmitoyl carnitine (L-PC) exacerbated isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial structural disruption and fibrosis in rats, which was exacerbated by miR-21-3p. Mechanistically, miR-21-3p accelerated M1 macrophage polarization. Both miR-21-3p inhibitor and CPT1A overexpression suppressed mitophagy. The inhibition of CPT1A on mitophagy was reversed by miR-21-3p. MiR-21-3p targeted CPT1A mRNA and co-localized with CPT1A protein in cardiomyocytes. In the co-culture system of M1 macrophages and H9c2 cells, miR-21-3p mimics in H9c2 cells promoted M1 polarization, whereas miR-21-3p inhibitor reduced M1 phenotype. M1 macrophages exacerbated H9c2 cell damage. These findings support the potential therapeutic targeting of miR-21-3p to regulate inflammation and mitophagy by inducing CPT1A in CHF.

Abstract Using observation data and numerical simulations, we have demonstrated that the stratospheric Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) can predict extreme high temperatures (EHTs) in South Asia in June. The vertical structure of the QBO plays a crucial role in this prediction. When the QBO in June shows easterlies (westerlies) at 50 hPa and westerlies (easterlies) at 70 hPa, more (fewer) EHT events occur. This likely results from the QBO’s vertical structure causing positive (negative) temperature anomalies in the lower stratosphere and negative (positive) static stability anomalies near the tropical tropopause. These anomalies enhance (weaken) convective activity over the equatorial Indian Ocean, leading to anomalous circulation with ascending (descending) air over the equatorial Indian Ocean and descending (ascending) air over northern and central South Asia. This suppresses (promotes) convection over northern and central South Asia, affecting cloud formation and precipitation. Consequently, more (less) solar radiation reaches the region, along with weaker (stronger) evaporative cooling effects, warming (cooling) the surface and creating a background state conducive to (against) EHT events. Additionally, the opposite zonal winds at 30 hPa and 50 hPa in April may serve as a reference factor for predicting the probability of EHT events in northern and central South Asia. This study provides a potential approach for forecasting tropospheric extreme weather events based on stratospheric signals.

Abstract Background The dynamics of mitochondrial respiratory cristae (MRC) and its impact on oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) play a crucial role in driving the progression of high-grade glioma (HGG). However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Methods In the present study, we employed machine learning-based transmission electron microscopy analysis of 7141 mitochondria from 54 resected glioma patients. Additionally, we conducted bioinformatics analysis and multiplex immunohistochemical (mIHC) staining of clinical glioma microarrays to identify key molecules involved in glioma. Subsequently, we modulated the expression levels of mitochondrial dynamic-1-like protein (DNM1L/DRP1), and its two receptors, mitochondrial fission protein 1 (FIS1) and mitochondrial fission factor (MFF), via lentiviral transfection to further investigate the central role of these molecules in the dynamics of glioblastoma (GBM) cells and glioma stem cells (GSCs). We then evaluated the potential impact of DNM1L/DRP1, FIS1, and MFF on the proliferation and progression of GBM cells and GSCs using a combination of CCK-8 assay, Transwell assay, Wound Healing assay, tumor spheroid formation assay and cell derived xenograft assay employing NOD/ShiLtJGpt-Prkdc em26Cd52 Il2rg em26Cd22/Gpt (NCG) mouse model. Subsequently, we validated the ability of the DNM1L/DRP1-FIS1 axis to remodel MRC structure through mitophagy by utilizing Seahorse XF analysis technology, mitochondrial function detection, MRC abundance detection and monitoring dynamic changes in mitophagy. Results Our findings revealed that compared to low-grade glioma (LGG), HGG exhibited more integrated MRC structures. Further research revealed that DNM1L/DRP1, FIS1, and MFF played pivotal roles in governing mitochondrial fission and remodeling MRC in HGG. The subsequent validation demonstrated that DNM1L/DRP1 exerts a positive regulatory effect on FIS1, whereas the interaction between MFF and FIS1 demonstrates a competitive inhibition relationship. The down-regulation of the DNM1L/DRP1-FIS1 axis significantly impaired mitophagy, thereby hindering the remodeling of MRC and inhibiting OXPHOS function in glioma, ultimately leading to the inhibition of its aggressive progression. In contrast, MFF exerts a contrasting effect on MRC integrity, OXPHOS activity, and glioma progression. Conclusions This study highlights that the DNM1L/DRP1-FIS1 axis stabilizes MRC structures through mitophagy in HGG cells while driving their OXPHOS activity ultimately leading to robust disease progression. The inhibition of the DNM1L/DRP1-FIS1 axis hinders MRC remodeling and suppresses GBM progression. We propose that down-regulation of the DNM1L/DRP1-FIS1 axis could be a potential therapeutic strategy for treating HGG.

Abstract The long-term practice of mulched drip irrigation (MDI) has significantly advanced cotton production in China’s arid regions. In this study, we conducted an evaluation of the changes to key soil environmental factors within cotton fields under MDI, providing a holistic assessment of MDI sustainability. Specifically, long-term MDI demonstrated numerous benefits including improved soil salinity management, nutrient retention, soil structure, and microbial functions. Collectively, these changes contribute to enhanced overall soil quality. Our research also confirms MDI as an effective integrated water-saving technology approach. Affirming the sustainability of widespread MDI promotion, our findings firmly support its potential as a sustainable and viable solution for oasis agriculture in arid lands, conferring long-term benefits to agricultural production in these regions.

Abstract Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs), once thought to be mere remnants of ancient viral integrations in the mammalian genome, are now recognized for their critical roles in various physiological processes, including embryonic development, innate immunity, and tumorigenesis. Their impact on host organisms is significant driver of evolutionary changes, offering insight into evolutionary mechanisms. In our study, we explored the functionality of ERVs by examining single-cell transcriptomic profiles from human embryonic stem cells and urine cells. This led to the discovery of a unique ERVH48-1 expression pattern between these cell types. Additionally, somatic cell reprogramming efficacy was enhanced when ERVH48-1 was overexpressed in a urine cell-reprogramming system. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) generated with ERVH48-1 overexpression recapitulated the traits of those produced by traditional reprogramming approaches, and the resulting iPSCs demonstrated the capability to differentiate into all three germ layers in vitro. Our research elucidated the role of ERVs in somatic cell reprogramming.

Wave height prediction is hampered by the volatility and unpredictability of ocean data. Traditional single predictors are inadequate in capturing this complexity, and weighted fusion methods fail to consider inter-model correlations, resulting in suboptimal performance. To overcome these challenges, we presented an improved stacking-based model that combined the long short-term memory (LSTM) network with extremely randomized trees (ET) for wave height prediction. Initially, features with weak correlation to wave height were excluded using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Subsequently, a stacking ensemble tailored for time series cross-validation was deployed, employing LSTM and ET as base learners to capture temporal and feature-specific patterns, respectively. Lasso regression was utilized as the meta-learner, harmonizing these insights to improve accuracy by leveraging the strengths of each model across different dimensions of the data. Validation using datasets from four buoy stations demonstrated the superior predictive capability of our proposed model over single predictors such as temporal convolutional networks (TCN) and XGBoost, and fusion methods like LSTM-ET-BP.

Abstract Polymer materials suffer mechano-oxidative deterioration or degradation in the presence of molecular oxygen and mechanical forces. In contrast, aerobic biological activities combined with mechanical stimulus promote tissue regeneration and repair in various organs. A synthetic approach in which molecular oxygen and mechanical energy synergistically initiate polymerization will afford similar robustness in polymeric materials. Herein, aerobic mechanochemical reversible-deactivation radical polymerization was developed by the design of an organic mechano-labile initiator which converts oxygen into activators in response to ball milling, enabling the reaction to proceed in the air with low-energy input, operative simplicity, and the avoidance of potentially harmful organic solvents. In addition, this approach not only complements the existing methods to access well-defined polymers but also has been successfully employed for the controlled polymerization of (meth)acrylates, styrenic monomers and solid acrylamides as well as the synthesis of polymer/perovskite hybrids without solvent at room temperature which are inaccessible by other means.

Abstract Background The epidemiological distribution of functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) in heart failure (HF) and mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) patients and its impact on outcomes remains unclear. We attempt to investigate the prognosis of FMR in patients with HFmrEF. Methods The HF center registry study is a prospective, single, observational study conducted at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, where 2330 patients with acute HF (AHF) were enrolled and 890 HFmrEF patients were included in the analysis. The patients were stratified into three categories based on the severity of FMR: none/mild, moderate, and moderate-to-severe/severe groups. Subsequently, a comparison of the clinical characteristics among these groups was conducted, along with an assessment of the incidence of the primary endpoint (comprising all-cause mortality and readmission for HF) during a one-year follow-up period. Results The one-year follow-up results indicated that the primary composite endpoint occurrence rates in the three groups were 23.5%, 32.9%, and 36.5%, respectively. The all-cause mortality rates in the three groups were 9.3%, 13.7%, and 16.4% respectively. The urgent need to reduce agricultural water consumption and tackle water scarcity has made developing water-saving technologies in agriculture a top priority. However, However, introducing these technologies does not automatically guarantee a reduction in overall water consumption within the sector. The rebound effect plays a significant role in limiting the effectiveness of water conservation policies. A comprehensive understanding of irrigation's water rebound effect (WRE) is essential for successfully conserving agricultural water resources, especially in arid regions. This study focuses on Xinjiang and empirically analyzes the rebound effect following the implementation of water-saving measures. The findings indicate that from 2001 to 2020, water consumption remained a concern despite advancements in irrigation technology, leading to a 40.86 % reduction in the irrigation quota (a decrease of 5567.12 m³/ha). The cultivated land area, irrigation area, water-saving irrigation area, agricultural output value, agricultural water consumption, and agricultural water use productivity in Xinjiang have increased by 2.86 × 106 ha, 1.40 × 106 ha, 1.70 × 106 ha, 81.61 × 109 CNY, 6.28 × 109 m3 and 1.57 CNY/m3, respectively, with growth rates of 83.54 %, 41.27 %, 134.24 %, 217.87, 7.80 % and 192.83 %, respectively. Despite the reduced water allocation per hectare for irrigation, the anticipated decline in total water consumption did not occur, revealing a significant rebound effect, with variations ranging from 64.84 % to 1972.51 %. This indicates that a single water-saving measure may not ensure long-term water conservation. A deeper analysis of this rebound effect can help formulate more effective water management strategies. Strategies should encompass promoting ongoing advancements in water-saving technologies, imposing restrictions on expanding the cultivated land in certain areas, decreasing the cultivation of high-yield and high-water-demand crops, curbing the extension of irrigation coverage, enhancing the establishment of agricultural water pricing mechanisms, integrating smart irrigation technologies and data-driven water resource management, enhancing the utilization of saline-alkaline water, and driving policy innovation. The findings can help enhance agricultural water use efficiency, supporting agricultural production and regional economic development. This not only aids in improving agricultural water management in Xinjiang but also provides valuable insights for other arid and semi-arid regions. These insights can aid in creating more efficient water resource management strategies, reducing the negative impacts of the WRE, and advancing global agricultural sustainability and innovation in water management.

Background: Machine learning (ML) has excelled after being introduced into the medical field. Ensemble ML models were able to integrate the advantages of several different ML models. This study compares the ensemble ML model's and EuroSCORE II's performance predicting in-hospital mortality in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. Methods: The study included 4,764 patients from three heart centers between January 2007 and December 2021. Of these, 3812 patients were assigned to the modeling group, and 952 patients were assigned to the internal test group. Patients from other two heart center (1733 and 415 cases, respectively) constituted the external test group. The modeling set data are trained using each of the three ML strategies (XGBoost, CatBoost, and LightGBM), and the new model (XCL model) is constructed by integrating these three models through an ensemble ML strategy. Performance of different models in the three test groups comparative assessments were performed by calibration, discriminant, decision curve analysis, net reclassification index (NRI), integrated discriminant improvement (IDI), and Bland-Altman analysis. Results: In terms of discrimination, the XCL model performed the best with an impressive AUC value of 0.9145 in the internal validation group. The XCL model continued to perform best in both external test groups. The NRI and IDI suggested that the ML model showed positive improvements in all three test groups compared to EuroSCORE II. Conclusions: ML models, particularly the XCL model, outperformed EuroSCORE II in predicting in-hospital mortality for CABG patients, with better discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility.

In arid areas, biodegradable film has recently had the potential to replace polyethylene (PE) film to address plastic pollution. However, the positive effect of biodegradable film on soil moisture and salt control is weaker than that of PE film. Magnetized irrigation water technology is expected to compensate for this limitation. This study comprised a field experiment in 20212023 to study how two types of biodegradable film (M1, black; M2, transparent) and six magnetization intensity on irrigation water (T0, 0 Gs; T1, 1000 Gs; T2, 2000 Gs; T3, 3000 Gs; T4, 4000 Gs; T5, 5000 Gs) affect the degradation rate of biodegradable film, soil watersalt distribution, growth, and quality of processing tomatoes. The traditional PE film mulching and non-magnetized irrigation were used as the control group (MPET0). The results demonstrated that magnetized water irrigation slowed down the degradation rate of biodegradable film. In addition, the magnetized irrigation water can redistributed the soil water-salt patterns under the biodegradable film, improving the soil water content and salt leaching efficiency, with better results in M1 than in M2. Moreover, magnetized water irrigation promoted the growth of tomato leaf area under the biodegradable film, enhancing photochemical efficiency and potential activity of PSII, thereby improving fruit yield, quality, and water use efficiency of tomato. Principal component analysis showed that the comprehensive score of M1T3 treatment was the highest throughout the three years. Furthermore, M1T3 treatment has the highest processing tomato economic benefits during 2021–2023 (24634986 CNY hm2 more than MPET0). Therefore, the use of 3000 Gs magnetized irrigation water combined with black biodegradable film is conducive to improving soil water and salt conditions, reducing residual film pollution, and improving the yield and quality of processing tomatoes, thus ensuring the sustainable development of oasis agriculture.

The orientation (including the c axis orientation and crystal direction parallel to rolling direction) evolution of grown recrystallization grains during annealing at 250 °C for 45–180 min in Mg–Zn-Gd alloy was characterized by quasi-in-situ electron backscatter diffraction method. An unusual grain orientation rotation during the process of static recrystallization grain growth, rather than common plastic deformation or recrystallization nucleation process, was observed. Due to the higher storage energy, the growth size in the early stage of annealing (1.41 μm) is larger than that in the late stage of annealing (0.73 μm) for most (∼76%) grains, and corresponding average c-axis rotation angles are 3.65° and 1.39°, respectively, indicating that the larger the increase in grain size, the greater the changing degree in grain orientation. It is speculated that the orientation rotation during grain growth process is mediated by the interaction between dislocations and grain boundaries. The results reported in the current paper can provide a new insight into the study on the relationship between preferential grain growth and non-basal texture formation in rare earth contained Mg alloys.

Abstract Analyzing blood lipid and bile acid profile changes in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Evaluating the integrated model's diagnostic significance for CRC. Ninety-one individuals with colorectal cancer (CRC group) and 120 healthy volunteers (HC group) were selected for comparison. Serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and apolipoproteins (Apo) A1, ApoA2, ApoB, ApoC2, and ApoC3 were measured using immunoturbidimetric and colorimetric methods. Additionally, LC–MS/MS was employed to detect fifteen bile acids in the serum, along with six tumor markers: carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigens (CA) 125, CA19-9, CA242, CA50, and CA72-4. Group comparisons utilized independent sample t-tests and Mann–Whitney U tests. The perforated drip irrigation emitter (PDIE) is a novel drip irrigation emitter incorporating multiple energy dissipation mechanisms, chiefly hedging, deflection, and friction. To characterize the influences of structural parameters and vortices on the hydraulic performance of PDIE, the discharge exponent, discharge rate, and emitter unit constant were analyzed via hydraulic performance experiments and numerical simulation. The key findings are: (1) Discharge exponents of PDIE ranged from 0.478 to 0.515; average high-pressure hydraulic performance exceeded low pressure by 4.882%. (2) The four key structural parameters impacted hydraulic performance from large to small as follows: the width of the perforation (a), the angle of the scalariform perforation plate (α), the distance of the two perforations (b), and the length of the channel cavity (c). Among them, the discharge exponent changes significantly with a and α. (3) Vortex-retaining PDIE exhibited a lower emitter discharge exponent versus vortex-removed versions. However, vortices increase discharge rate and reduce energy consumption of PDIE. After optimization, the emitter discharge exponent of the PDIE with the reserved vortex is 0.461, which is relatively improved by 3.556%. This study can provide a theoretical reference for the structural design of new drip irrigation emitters and functional analysis of vortices. Abstract Objectives this study aims to compare the clinical outcomes of traditional and digital crown extension guides in the aesthetic restoration of anterior teeth. Additionally, the study will analyze the differences in the results of various digital crown extension guides in anterior aesthetic restorations. Methods Sixty-two patients who required aesthetic restoration of their anterior teeth were selected for this study. The patients had a total of 230 anterior teeth and were randomly divided into three groups: a control group of 22 cases who received diagnostic wax-up with pressure film, an experimental group 1 of 20 cases who received 3D printed digital models with pressure film, and an experimental group 2 of 20 patients who received digital dual-positioning guides. The control group had a total of 84 anterior teeth, experimental group 1 had 72 anterior teeth, and experimental group 2 had 74 anterior teeth. The study compared three methods for fabricating crown extension guides: the control group used the diagnostic wax-up plus compression film method, while experimental group 1 used compression film on 3D printed models and experimental group 2 used 3D printed digital dual-positioning crown extension guides. After the crown lengthening surgery, the control group patients wore DMG resin temporary crown material for gingival contouring, while the experimental group patients wore 3D printed resin temporary crowns for the same purpose. The patients were followed up in the outpatient clinic after wearing temporary crowns for 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months, respectively. The clinical results were evaluated in terms of marginal fit, red aesthetic index, and white aesthetic index. Results Based on the statistical analysis, the experimental group required significantly fewer follow-up visits and less time for guide design and fabrication compared to the control group. Additionally, the surgical time for the experimental group was significantly shorter than that of the control group. During the postoperative period between the 1st and 3rd month, the PES index scores for the marginal gingival level, proximal, and distal mesiodistal gingival papillae of the experimental group showed a trend of superiority over those of the control group. By the 6th month, the marginal gingival level exhibited a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group demonstrated superior results to the control group in terms of shape, contour, and volume of the teeth, color, surface texture, and transparency of the restorations, and features during the 1st and 3rd postoperative months. In the 6th month, the comparative results indicated that the experimental group continued to exhibit superior outcomes to the control group in terms of the shape, color, surface texture, and transparency of the restorations, as well as the characteristics of the teeth. Additionally, the experimental group demonstrated significantly fewer gingival alterations than the control group at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-procedure, with this difference being statistically significant. Furthermore, the combination of 3D printing technology and restorative techniques was utilized, resulting in consistent patient satisfaction. Conclusion Digitalisation plays an important role in anterior aesthetic restorations. The use of digital technology to manage the entire process of anterior cosmetic restorations can improve restorative results, reduce the number of follow-up appointments, shorten consultation time, and achieve better patient satisfaction.

Abstract Background Cholangiocarcinoma represents a malignant neoplasm originating from the hepatobiliary tree, with a subset of tumors developing inside the liver. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas (ICC) commonly exhibit an asymptomatic presentation, rendering both diagnosis and treatment challenging. Cuproptosis, an emerging regulated cell death pathway induced by copper ions, has garnered attention recently. As cancer cells show altered copper metabolism and comparatively higher copper needs, cuproptosis may play a role in the development of ICC. However, studies investigating this possibility are currently lacking. Methods Single-cell and bulk RNA sequence data were analyzed, and correlations were established between the expression of cuproptosis-related molecules and ICC patient survival. Genes with predicting survival were used to create a CUPT score using Cox and LASSO regression and tumor mutation burden (TMB) analysis. The CIBERSORT software was employed to characterize immune cell infiltration within the tumors. Furthermore, immune infiltration prediction, biological function enrichment, and drug sensitivity analyses were conducted to explore the potential implications of the cuproptosis-related signature. The effects of silencing solute carrier family 39 member 4 gene (SLC39A4) expression using siRNA were investigated using assays measuring cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell migration. Key genes of cuproptosis were detected by western blotting. Results The developed CUPT score divided patients into high and low CUPT score groups. Those with a low score had significantly better prognosis and longer survival. In contrast, high CUPT scores were associated with worse clinical outcomes and significantly higher TMB. Comparisons of the two groups also indicated differences in the immune infiltrate present in the tumors. Finally, we were able to identify 95 drugs potentially affecting the cuproptosis pathway. Some of these might be effective in the treatment of ICC. The in vitro experiments revealed that suppressing the expression of SLC39A4 in ICC cell lines resulted in reduced cell proliferation, colony formation, and cell migration. It also led to an increase in cell death and the upregulation of key genes associated with cuproptosis, namely ferredoxin 1 (FDX1) and dihydrolipoyl transacetylase (DLAT). These findings strongly suggest that this cuproptosis-associated molecule may play a pivotal role in the development and metastasis of ICC. Conclusions Changes in the expression of a cuproptosis-related gene signature can predict the clinical prognosis of ICC with considerable accuracy. This supports the notion that cuproptosis influences the diversity and complexity of the immune microenvironment, mutational landscape, and biological behavior of ICC. Understanding this pathway better may hold promise for the development of innovative strategies in the management of this disease.

In this study, 316LN steel specimens with five nitrogen concentrations were melted and subjected to compression and annealing. The grain boundary character distribution was investigated by electron backscatter diffraction. The corrosion behavior was investigated by the electrochemical polarization curves, electrical impedance spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that nitrogen promotes the formation of low-Σ boundaries when the pre-strain is not above 10%. The polarization resistance increases with increasing nitrogen content. The quantitative relationship between the nitrogen content and the pitting potential was obtained. Nitrogen favors the formation of oxides, hydroxides, and NH3/NH4+ on the passivated surface. The effect of planar slip on grain boundary engineering and the influence of NH4+ on the corrosion resistance are discussed.

ABSTRACT: Gout in goslings has become widespread and caused huge economic losses for the goose industry. Emerging evidence suggests that goose astrovirus (GAstV) is a prominent etiological factor of gout in goslings. At present, 2 genotypes of GAstV have been identified named GAstV-1 and GAstV-2. Here, we isolated the GAstV-1 HBLY strain and GAstV-2 XT1 strain from HeBei province of China. The genome and proliferation characteristics of GAstV-1 and GAstV-2 were analyzed and the results showed that the whole genome identity was 53.8% to 55.8%, especially the nucleotide and amino acids identity of ORF2 and Cap protein was only 49.5% to 50.5% and 19.6% to 22.6 %. Interestingly, GAstV-1 and GAstV-2 with such low homology both can cause gout in goslings. To further explore this phenomenon, the whole genomic expression profile of goose embryonic fibroblasts (GEFs) infected with GAstV-1 was investigated in comparison with GAstV-2. The results revealed that 126 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between GAstV-1-infected and uninfected cells at 48 h postinfection (hpi), and 262 DEGs between GAstV-2 and uninfected. Among these, there are 15 commonly up-regulated genes and 19 commonly down-regulated genes. Gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis, Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis, and short time-series expression miner (STEM) analysis suggested that GAstV-1 can induce a higher innate immune response to GEFs, while GAstV-2 has a more pronounced effect on GEFs metabolic pathways. The transcriptomic analysis results significantly enhance our comprehension of the pathogenic mechanisms of GAstV.

ABSTRACTThe present work investigated the effect of Zr on the precipitation behavior and mechanical properties of Fe-13.5Cr-4.73Al-2.07Mo-(0.34∼0.45)Nb-(0.65∼0.87)Ta-(0.11∼0.33)Zr (wt. %) alloys. The sheet samples were solution treated at 1473 K for 2 h, and then aged at 1073 K for 0∼24 h. The results show that the addition of Zr significantly refines the grains, postpones the precipitation of Laves phase particles, shifts the precipitation kinetics curve to the right, and prolongs the incubation period of phase transformation. At the same time, the low diffusion coefficient of Zr also delays the coarsening rate of precipitated particles. And the yield strength of 0.1Zr alloy (σYS = 418 MPa, δ = 10%) is significantly higher than that of 0.3Zr alloy (σYS = 375 MPa, δ = 6%), exhibiting more prominent mechanical properties.

BackgroundFu-zi decoction (FZD) has a long history of application for treating Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) as a classic formulation. However, its underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. This study aimed to decipher the potential mechanism of FZD in treating RA, with a specific focus on receptor activator of nuclear factor κB/receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANK/RANKL) signaling pathway.MethodsThe impact of FZD on RA was investigated in collagen-induced arthritis rats (CIA), and the underlying mechanism was investigated in an osteoclast differentiation cell model. In vivo, the antiarthritic effect of FZD at various doses (2.3, 4.6, 9.2 g/kg/day) was evaluated by arthritis index score, paw volume, toe thickness and histopathological examination of inflamed joints. Additionally, the ankle joint tissues were determined with micro-CT and safranin O fast green staining to evaluate synovial hyperplasia and articular cartilage damage. In vitro, osteoclast differentiation and maturation were evaluated by TRAP staining in RANKL-induced bone marrow mononuclear cells. The levels of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines as well as RANKL and OPG were evaluated by ELISA kits. In addition, Western blotting was used to investigate the effect of FZD on RANK/RANKL pathway activation both in vivo and in vitro.ResultsFZD significantly diminished the arthritis index score, paw volume, toe thickness and weigh loss in CIA rats, alleviated the pathological joint alterations. Consistent with in vivo results, FZD markedly inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation by decreasing osteoclast numbers in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, FZD decreased the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α, while increasing anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 level both in serum and culture supernatants. Treatment with FZD significantly reduced serum RANKL levels, increased OPG levels, and decreased the RANKL/OPG ratio. In both in vivo and in vitro settings, FZD downregulated the protein expressions of RANK, RANKL, and c-Fos, while elevating OPG levels, further decreasing the RANKL/OPG ratio.ConclusionIn conclusion, FZD exerts a therapeutic effect in CIA rats by inhibiting RANK/RANKL-mediated osteoclast differentiation, which suggested that FZD is a promising treatment for RA.

Biodegradable film (BF), as a superior substitute for traditional polyethylene film (PF), has experienced a consistent increase in China. However, a significant research gap persists regarding the utilization of BF in assessing farmland carbon balance. This experiment examined the responses of maize growth, yield, irrigation water productivity (IWP), CO2 emissions, and field net carbon sequestration (NCS) to two BF types (BF1, 100-day induction period, and BF2, 80-day induction period), and PF, and three irrigation amounts (I1, I2, I3: 5250, 5625, and 6000 m3 ha–1), by conducting a two-year (2019–2020) field trial in a typical arid and semi-arid region of China. The results indicated that biodegradable film mulching (BFM) negatively affected maize growth, resulting in reduced yield and IWP. Especially under the I1 irrigation level, the biodegradable film reduced maize yield by 6.26%–13.99% and IWP by 6.64–13.85%. Notably, in the I2 irrigation level, BF1 mulching had a comparable impact on maize yield and IWP to that of PF. Additionally, the increase in irrigation amounts exerted a more pronounced promoting effect on maize total biomass than on yield and IWP. Concerning carbon balance, short-term BF application resulted in reduced CO2 emissions (5.74–6.30% under BF1 and 9.27–12.37% under BF2), without any significant impact on NCS in cropland. Taking into account the economic value of maize and farmland ecology, we recommended utilizing irrigation amounts of 5625 m3 ha–1 for BF application in arid areas, while opting for a BF with a longer induction period whenever feasible.

Integrated with deep learning algorithms, machine vision techniques have emerged as a robust method for the swift and non-destructive assessment of crop moisture status across extensive agricultural landscapes. Within the agricultural sector, where water serves as a crucial resource, especially for cash crops such as cotton, precise monitoring of water status in fields is paramount. This study presents a novel approach for the evaluation of thermal imagery of cotton crops to predict their water status. The research focused on the application of a methodology that harnesses deep learning architectures in tandem with extant local irrigation practices. A considerable dataset, comprising approximately 5200 images, was collected under conditions of submembrane drip irrigation conditions. Cross-validation was employed to evaluate five deep learning models: VGG16, ResNet-18, MobilenetV3, DenseNet-201, and CSPdarknet53 for training and testing purposes. Experimental outcomes indicated that the MobilenetV3 model outperformed other deep learning architectures. It demonstrated exceptional capability in identifying cotton water stress classes, achieving an F1 value of 0.9990, with an average processing time of 44.85 ms. These results underscore the effectiveness of utilizing deep learning algorithms for accurately assessing water stress in cotton under mulched drip irrigation. This establishes a foundational basis for the development of a precise, cost-effective, and real-time monitoring system for the management of water in cotton fields.

IntroductionMicroaneurysms serve as early signs of diabetic retinopathy, and their accurate detection is critical for effective treatment. Due to their low contrast and similarity to retinal vessels, distinguishing microaneurysms from background noise and retinal vessels in fluorescein fundus angiography (FFA) images poses a significant challenge.MethodsWe present a model for automatic detection of microaneurysms. FFA images were pre-processed using Top-hat transformation, Gray-stretching, and Gaussian filter techniques to eliminate noise. The candidate microaneurysms were coarsely segmented using an improved matched filter algorithm. Real microaneurysms were segmented by a morphological strategy. To evaluate the segmentation performance, our proposed model was compared against other models, including Otsu's method, Region Growing, Global Threshold, Matched Filter, Fuzzy c-means, and K-means, using both self-constructed and publicly available datasets. Performance metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and intersection-over-union were calculated.ResultsThe proposed model outperforms other models in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and intersection-over-union. The segmentation results obtained with our model closely align with benchmark standard. Our model demonstrates significant advantages for microaneurysm segmentation in FFA images and holds promise for clinical application in the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy.ConclusionThe proposed model offers a robust and accurate approach to microaneurysm detection, outperforming existing methods and demonstrating potential for clinical application in the effective treatment of diabetic retinopathy.

Abstract The advancement of biomaterials with antimicrobial and wound healing properties continues to present challenges. Macrophages are recognized for their significant role in the repair of infection-related wounds. However, the interaction between biomaterials and macrophages remains complex and requires further investigation. In this research, we propose a new sequential immunomodulation method to enhance and expedite wound healing by leveraging the immune properties of bacteria-related wounds, utilizing a novel mixed hydrogel dressing. The hydrogel matrix is derived from porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) and is loaded with a new type of bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBG) doped with magnesium (Mg-MBG) and loaded with Curcumin (Cur). This hybrid hydrogel demonstrates controlled release of Cur, effectively eradicating bacterial infection in the early stage of wound infection, and the subsequent release of Mg ions (Mg2+) synergistically inhibits the activation of inflammation-related pathways (such as MAPK pathway, NF-κB pathway, TNF-α pathway, etc.), suppressing the inflammatory response caused by infection. Therefore, this innovative hydrogel can safely and effectively expedite wound healing during infection. Our design strategy explores novel immunomodulatory biomaterials, offering a fresh approach to tackle current clinical challenges associated with wound infection treatment.

Ultrathin foils are used in multiple fields, including aerospace, and precision instrument design. In this paper, CoCrNi medium-entropy alloy (MEA) ultrathin foils with terminal thicknesses of 77 μm were prepared by accumulative cold rolling at room temperature. The quasi-static tensile properties of the rolled ultrathin foils were tested. The influence of the reduction ratio and thickness values on their mechanical properties was studied through EBSD and TEM. The results showed that the CoCrNi MEA ultrathin foils exhibited excellent tensile performance when the thickness reached 160 μm, in which the tensile strength reached 1.69 GPa at a tensile elongation of 7 %. Microstructure characterization revealed that the dominant strengthening mechanism of the CoCrNi ultrathin foils were composed of grain boundary and dislocation strengthening. Specifically, when the thickness exceeded 160 μm, enhanced dislocation and grain size strengthening cause ' work hardening ', and the strength gradually increased with decreasing thickness. When the thickness was 160 μm, the strengthening effect produced by dislocation banding, twinning, and multistage twinning delivery significantly influenced the mechanical properties of the foils. When the thickness was less than 160 μm, this process mainly occurred due to the interactions of dislocation proliferation and annihilation in the grain, causing the strength to decrease gradually with decreasing thickness, thereby resulting in ' work softening '.

Photon-counting light detection and ranging is very sensitive to ambient interference, target features, and instrument performance, especially for long-distance detection of spaceborne laser altimeter and measurement of complex land-cover types with steep terrain. It is crucial to extract the signal photons on the ground surface from the collected photon point cloud (PPC). An adaptive signal photon detection method is presented in this article, which combines histogram statistics and boxplot analysis with density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN), to denoise the PPC data with strong and weak noise obtained by ice, cloud, and land elevation satellite-2 laser altimeter. First, a coarse denoising with histogram of elevation is conducted on the raw PPC to reduce the calculation amount. Second, a fine denoising based on adaptive DBSCAN is used to extract the signal photons, where the key parameters of elliptic filter kernel are automatically determined according to the topographic data situation. We compared it with other methods, including local distance statistics (LDS), traditional and modified DBSCAN, traditional and modified ordering points to identify cluster structure (OPTICS), and ATL08 data. Some quantitative indicators, such as recall (R), precision (P), and F-score (F), are used to evaluate its performance. The results show that; 1) the adaptive DBSCAN has the best performance on preserving the vertical structural characteristics of ground objects, and 2) the adaptive DBSCAN in the mean R, P, and F of three land covers (i.e., mountain forest, urban, and water areas) can get up to the maximum are 0.9852, 0.9675, and 0.9761, respectively; followed by ATL08 data with 0.9773, 0.9412, and 0.9536, modified OPTICS with 0.9684, 0.9460, and 0.9586, and modified DBSCAN with 0.9613, 0.9474, and 0.9544; and then OPTICS with 0.9444, 0.9397, and 0.9378, and the DBSCAN with 0.9444, 0.9355, and 0.9554; the last one is LDS with 0.9382, 0.9261, and 0.9422. The proposed method provides an alternative approach for rapid and accurate processing of PPC on complex terrain.

Segmentation of island waterline contributes to shoreline movement analyzing, environmental monitoring, and integrated coastal zone management. To achieve high efficiency and high accuracy of island waterline segmentation in remote sensing images, we proposed a model for island waterline segmentation based on DANet (DANet-SMIW). In DANet-SMIW model, different indexes (Normalized Difference Water Index and OTSU) were taken as new channels added to input dataset, which enhanced waterline's spectral information. DANet backbone network was improved by dense connection of DenseNet. Loss function, consisting of binary cross entropy loss and Dice loss, was used to resolve the sample imbalance problem, and then, rough results of island waterline segmentation were refined by boundary refinement module (BRM). In total, 2042 island images were taken as experiment dataset, which were cropped from Landsat-8 images and divided into 1634 images for training, 100 images for testing, and 308 images for validation, and DANet-SMIW model was compared against other models, including FCN-32s, DeepLabv3+, PSPNet, Dense-ASPP, PSANet, ICNet, DuNet, and PIDNet. Results demonstrated that DANet-SMIW model achieved the highest values with pixel accuracy and Mean Intersection over Union and possessed higher segmentation efficiency than most other models. Collectively, DANet-SMIW model was an integrated accurate and efficient model for island waterline segmentation in remote sensing images.

Steam reforming is an effective method for improving heat sinks of hypersonic aircraft at high flight Mach numbers. However, unlike the industrial process of producing hydrogen with a high water content, the catalytic steam reforming mechanism for the regeneration cooling process of hydrocarbon fuels with a water content below 30% is still unclear. Catalytic steam reforming (CSR) and catalytic thermal cracking (CTC) reactions occur at low temperatures, with the main products being hydrogen and carbon oxides. Thermal cracking (TC) reactions occur at high temperatures, with the main products being alkanes and alkenes. The above reaction exists simultaneously in the regeneration cooling channel, which is referred to as partial catalytic steam reforming (PCSR). Based on the experimental measurement results, an improved neural network correction method was used to establish a four-step global reaction model for the PCSR of n-decane under low water conditions. The reliability of the four-step model was verified by combining the model with a numerical simulation program and comparing it with the experimental results obtained by electric heating hydrocarbon fuels with a pressure of 3 MPa and a water content of 5/10/15%. The experimental and predicted results using the developed kinetic model are consistent with an error of less than 5% in the decane conversion rate. The average absolute error between the fuel outlet temperature and total heat sink is less than 10%. Using the PCSR model to predict the heat transfer characteristics of mixed fuels with different water contents, the convective heat transfer coefficient is basically the same, and the Nu number is affected by the thermal conductivity coefficient, showing different patterns with changes in the water content.

Cholestasis refers to a physiological and pathological process caused by bile acid (BA) overaccumulation inside the circulatory system and liver, leading to systemic and hepatocellular damage. Activating the farnesol X receptor (FXR) to restore BA homeostasis is a promising strategy for treating cholestasis. The objective of this research is to reveal solid evidence for the fact that the total iridoid glycosides from Swertia mussotii Franch. (IGSM) alleviate cholestasis. In this research, the whole plant of S. mussotii was extracted with 70% ethanol and separated by macroporous adsorption resin. A rat cholestasis model was established by the injection of α-naphthyl isothiocyanate (ANIT) at a dose of 75 mg/kg. Biochemical and oxidative stress indicators were determined using commercial assay kits. The mRNA abundance of FXR and target proteins was assessed using RT-qPCR. In addition, the effects of main compounds with FXR were evaluated by molecular docking after IGSM analysis using UPLC. The results indicated that IGSM alleviated ANIT-induced cholestasis through reducing serum ALT, AST, AKP, and TBA levels; increasing the mRNA levels of Fxr, Besp, Ntcp, and Mep2; and reducing oxidative stress. The proportion of iridoid compounds in IGSM exceeded 50%, which may be the active substance basis of IGSM. This study provides a theoretical reference for IGSM in the treatment of cholestasis, and future studies may delve more deeply into the FXR regulatory pathway.

Aiming at the problem of random environment interference in the process of strategy interaction and the behavioral evolution of an aerial attack–defense game, this paper considers the influence of the difference in the performance and value between both game players in terms of strategy evolution; explores the randomness of the complex battlefield environment, the uncertainty of the behavioral state of game players, and the limitations of the emergent situation; constructs a mathematical model of the stochastic evolution of an aerial-coordinated attack–defense game in uncertain environments; and studies the stability of the strategy interaction and behavioral decision-making process of both players of the aerial attack–defense game. Simulation results show that many factors of the performance and value between both game players have a greater impact on the strategy evolution trend in both game players, which not only causes changes in the results of the strategy selection but also affects the rate of strategy evolution for the game players. In addition, random environmental factors cause a certain degree of interference to the strategy evolution process of the game players, which usually accelerates the game players’ strategy evolution rate and greatly affects the evolution process of the game players’ strategy. This study can provide a theoretical basis and feasible reference for improving mission decision-making, response mechanisms, and system modeling of an aerial attack–defense game, which has important theoretical value and practical significance.

Water resources, energy, and food are fundamental resources for high-quality regional development. In the process of rapid regional economic growth, integrating the utilization of these fundamental resources has become a critical challenge for achieving high-quality development in the Ili River Valley. To explore the coordinated development status of water, energy, and food (W-E-F) in the Ili River Valley, we constructed a comprehensive evaluation indicator system for the regional W-E-F system, and we calculated and analyzed the comprehensive development level, coupling coordination degree, and spatial equilibrium of the W-E-F system from 2008 to 2020. The results indicate that the comprehensive evaluation indicators of the W-E-F system in the Ili River Valley exhibited an overall upward trend, indicating that the system is moving in a positive direction. Among them, the water subsystem’s comprehensive evaluation indicator showed an upward trend but fluctuated significantly during the study period, with the excessive proportion of agricultural water consumption being a key factor affecting its development. Furthermore, the comprehensive evaluation indicator of the energy subsystem showed a slight downward trend, indicating constraints on the development of energy subsystems. Agricultural surface pollution and industrial waste pollution are the primary factors limiting its development. Meanwhile, due to the significant attention from governments at all levels, the food subsystem has been developed rapidly, with its comprehensive evaluation indicator showing a significant upward trend, which shows that the region is actively promoting food production capacity enhancement initiatives. Additionally, the coupling degree of the W-E-F system remained in a state of coordinated coupling, with an average value between 0.7 and 1.0, indicating a high overall development level, and that the development of each resource affects and constrains that of the other two. The coupling coordination degree transitioned through phases of near coordination, primary coordination, good coordination, and moderate coordination, and all counties and cities showed a tendency to evolve towards high coupling, indicating significant potential for the further development of the regional W-E-F system coupling and coordination. Among the subsystems, the food subsystem exhibited the highest spatial equilibrium (0.78) and the smallest spatial disparities, while the energy subsystem demonstrated the lowest spatial equilibrium (0.40) and the largest spatial disparities. There were still significant issues with the utilization and equilibrium of the regional resource allocation, necessitating integrated planning for the coordinated development of the W-E-F system to achieve sustainable resource management and high-quality ecological and economic development.

With the acceleration of urbanization, the importance of risk management in underground construction projects has become increasingly prominent. In the process of risk assessment for underground construction projects, the uncertainty of subjective factors from experts poses a significant challenge to the accuracy of assessment outcomes. This paper takes a section of the Nanchang Metro Line 2 as the research object, aiming to address the subjectivity issues in the risk assessment of underground construction projects and to enhance the scientific rigor and accuracy of the assessment. The study initially conducts a comprehensive identification and analysis of risk factors in underground engineering through a literature review and expert consultation method. Based on this, this paper introduces the theory of Pythagorean fuzzy sets to improve the Delphi method in order to reduce the impact of subjectivity in expert assessments. Furthermore, this paper constructs a Bayesian network model, incorporating risk factors into the network, and quantifies the construction risks through a probabilistic inference mechanism. The research findings indicate a total of 12 key risk factors that have been identified across four dimensions: geological and groundwater conditions, tunnel construction technical risks, construction management measures, and the surrounding environment. The Bayesian network assessment results indicate that the effectiveness of engineering quality management and the state of safety management at the construction site are the two most influential factors. Based on the assessment results, this paper further conducts a risk control analysis and proposes targeted risk management measures.

Plants interact with complex microbial communities in which microorganisms play different roles in plant development and health. While certain microorganisms may cause disease, others promote nutrient uptake and resistance to stresses through a variety of mechanisms. Developing plant protection measures requires a deeper comprehension of the factors that influence multitrophic interactions and the organization of phyllospheric communities. High-throughput sequencing was used in this work to investigate the effects of climate variables and bacterial wildfire disease on the bacterial community’s composition and assembly in the phyllosphere of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.). The samples from June (M1), July (M2), August (M3), and September (M4) formed statistically separate clusters. The assembly of the whole bacterial population was mostly influenced by stochastic processes. PICRUSt2 predictions revealed genes enriched in the M3, a period when the plant wildfire disease index reached climax, were associated with the development of the wildfire disease (secretion of virulence factor), the enhanced metabolic capacity and environmental adaption. The M3 and M4 microbial communities have more intricate molecular ecological networks (MENs), bursting with interconnections within a densely networked bacterial population. The relative abundances of plant-beneficial and antagonistic microbes Clostridiales, Bacillales, Lactobacillales, and Sphingobacteriales, showed significant decrease in severally diseased sample (M3) compared to the pre-diseased samples (M1/M2). Following the results of MENs, we further test if the correlating bacterial pairs within the MEN have the possibility to share functional genes and we have unraveled 139 entries of such horizontal gene transfer (HGT) events, highlighting the significance of HGT in shaping the adaptive traits of plant-associated bacteria across the MENs, particularly in relation to host colonization and pathogenicity.

Abstract The perturbations of the gut microbiota and metabolites are closely associated with the progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, inconsistent findings across studies impede a comprehensive understanding of their roles in IBD and their potential as reliable diagnostic biomarkers. To address this challenge, here we comprehensively analyze 9 metagenomic and 4 metabolomics cohorts of IBD from different populations. Through cross-cohort integrative analysis (CCIA), we identify a consistent characteristic of commensal gut microbiota. Especially, three bacteria, namely Asaccharobacter celatus, Gemmiger formicilis, and Erysipelatoclostridium ramosum, which are rarely reported in IBD. Metagenomic functional analysis reveals that essential gene of Two-component system pathway, linked to fecal calprotectin, are implicated in IBD. Metabolomics analysis shows 36 identified metabolites with significant differences, while the roles of these metabolites in IBD are still unknown. To further elucidate the relationship between gut microbiota and metabolites, we construct multi-omics biological correlation (MOBC) maps, which highlights gut microbial biotransformation deficiencies and significant alterations in aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. Finally, we identify multi-omics biomarkers for IBD diagnosis, validated across multiple global cohorts (AUROC values ranging from 0.92 to 0.98). Our results offer valuable insights and a significant resource for developing mechanistic hypotheses on host-microbiome interactions in IBD.

Abstract Discharge of high dams may result in supersaturated total dissolved gas (TDG) in water, which could cause fish that live downstream river to suffer from gas bubble disease. If supersaturated TDG water was taken as a water source for breeding and proliferation stations, farmed fish was confined and may face more severe problems than fish living in the river. Therefore, it is critical to develop strategies to reduce the negative effects of supersaturated TDG. In this research, the adsorption effect of porous media on supersaturated TDG was explored, including biofilter adsorption experiments and previously existing activated carbon adsorption experiments. The experimental results showed that adding porous media to the water effectively accelerated the dissipation of supersaturated TDG, and the adsorption effect was associated with the specific surface area, mass density, and initial TDG saturation. To quantitively evaluate the adsorption effects of the porous media, the porous adsorption coefficient was proposed to express the adsorption rate of porous media on supersaturated TDG. The porous adsorption coefficient was related to the initial TDG saturation and the specific surface area of the porous media. The porous adsorption coefficient increased with increasing the specific surface area and decreasing initial TDG saturation. Based on this, an equation related to the specific surface area, initial TDG saturation, and the porous adsorption coefficient was developed. This equation may be used to evaluate the adsorption effect of porous media on supersaturated TDG. This study could serve as a crucial resource in reducing the adverse impacts of supersaturated TDG.

Abstract Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is associated with poor outcomes. The objective of this study was to apply a new machine learning (ML) method to establish prediction models of AKI after CABG. Methods A total of 2,780 patients from two medical centers in East China who underwent primary isolated CABG were enrolled. The dataset was randomly divided for model training (80%) and model testing (20%). Four ML models based on LightGBM, Support vector machine (SVM), Softmax and random forest (RF) algorithms respectively were established in Python. A total of 2,051 patients from two other medical centers were assigned to an external validation group to verify the performances of the ML prediction models. The models were evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC), Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit statistic, Bland-Altman plots, and decision curve analysis. The outcome of the LightGBM model was interpreted using SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). Results The incidence of postoperative AKI in the modeling group was 13.4%. Similarly, the incidence of postoperative AKI of the two medical centers in the external validation group was 8.2% and 13.6% respectively. LightGBM performed the best in predicting, with an AUC of 0.8027 in internal validation group and 0.8798 and 0.7801 in the external validation group. The SHAP revealed the top 20 predictors of postoperative AKI ranked according to the importance, and the top three features on prediction were the serum creatinine in the first 24 h after operation, the last preoperative Scr level, and body surface area. Conclusion This study provides a LightGBM predictive model that can make accurate predictions for AKI after CABG surgery. The LightGBM model shows good predictive ability in both internal and external validation. It can help cardiac surgeons identify high-risk patients who may experience AKI after CABG surgery.

Hastelloy G30 is a typical representative of Ni–Cr–Fe–Mo–Cu alloys, which have excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. High alloying-element content induces a risk of intermetallic precipitation, which is poorly eliminated in steel/nickel bimetallic composite manufactured by hot forming or welding. In this study, aged material was observed using transmission electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the precipitates formed in Hastelloy G30 after aging at 800 °C comprised Cr- and Mo-rich σ phase. More than 95% of Σ1 and Σ3 boundaries were free from σ phase, and about half of the other low-Σ boundaries were immune to the formation of σ phase. All Σ9, Σ27, and random high-angle grain boundaries exhibited low intergranular precipitation resistance of approximately 5%–10%. The (301) planes of the σ phase and the (−220) planes of the matrix showed semicoherent lattice matching. Higher grain-boundary energy and serrated grain boundaries provided opportunities for σ phase precipitation to occur.

Landfills necessitate a liner barrier system to prevent the leakage of contaminants into the surrounding soil. However, the currently employed compacted clay liner (CCL) is insufficient to prevent the leakage of heavy metal ions. This study proposes a novel landfill liner system utilizing sludge-based activated carbon (SAC)-modified clay. The adsorption characteristics of SAC-modified clay liner (SAC-CCL) for Cd(II) or Cu(II) were evaluated through batch tests. The permeability coefficient and unconfined compressive strength of SAC-CCL were assessed through permeation and unconfined compression tests. The permeability coefficient of the SAC-modified clay ranged from 2.57 × 10−9 to 1.10 × 10−8 cm/s. The unconfined compressive strength of the SAC-CCL varied between 288 and 531 kPa. The migration of Cd(II) or Cu(II) within an 80 cm thick, full-scale SAC-CCL was simulated using soil column tests. The diffusion coefficient (D) was calculated by inversion using the one-dimensional solute migration equation. The diffusion coefficients (D) for Cd(II) and Cu(II) ranged from 1.9 × 10−10 to 13.5 × 10−10 m2/s. The retardant performance of SAC-CCL for Cd(II) and Cu(II) followed the order: 3% SAC-CCL > 1% SAC-CCL > CCL > 5% SAC-CCL, from strongest to weakest. Consequently, SAC-modified clay demonstrates significant potential as a landfill lining material. However, the migration behavior of heavy metal ions in SAC-CCLs under cyclic dry–wet conditions requires further investigation.

Cotton is highly sensitive to potassium, and Xinjiang, China’s leading cotton-producing region, faces a severe challenge due to reduced soil potassium availability. Biofertilizers, particularly potassium-solubilizing rhizobacteria (KSR), convert insoluble potassium into plant-usable forms, offering a sustainable solution for evergreen agriculture. This study isolated and characterized KSR from cotton, elucidated their potassium solubilization mechanisms, and evaluated the effects of inoculating KSR strains on cotton seedlings. Twenty-three KSR strains were isolated from cotton rhizosphere soil using modified Aleksandrov medium. Their solubilizing capacities were assessed in a liquid medium. Strain A10 exhibited the highest potassium solubilization capacity (21.8 ppm) by secreting organic acids such as lactic, citric, acetic, and succinic acid, lowering the pH and facilitating potassium release. A growth curve analysis and potassium solubilization tests of A10 under alkali stress showed its vigorous growth and maintained solubilization ability at pH 8–9, with significant inhibition at pH 10. Furthermore, 16S rRNA sequencing identified strain A10 as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Greenhouse pot experiments showed that inoculating cotton plants with strain A10 significantly increased plant height and promoted root growth. This inoculation also enhanced dry biomass accumulation in both the aerial parts and root systems of the plants, while reducing the root–shoot ratio. These results suggest that Pseudomonas aeruginosa A10 has potential as a biofertilizer, offering a new strategy for sustainable agriculture.

Maize is an important food and feed crop. Under limited arable land area, the cultivation of high-density-tolerance crops is a key factor in promoting yield improvement. Leaf width and stalk strength are important influences on density tolerance in maize. However, no comprehensive transcriptomic analysis has focused on maize’s leaf width and stalk strength formation mechanisms. In this study, comparative transcriptomic analyses demonstrated that significant transcriptome changes occurred regarding leaf width and stalk strength of narrow-leaved and wide-leaved maize inbred lines, with a total of 5001 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified. Enrichment analysis showed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, phytohormone signaling, amino acid metabolism, and brassinosteroid biosynthesis were significantly correlated with the formation of maize leaf shape and stalk strength and that the genes in these pathways were primarily involved in cell wall formation. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis identified 2 modules significantly correlated with leaf width and stalk strength, from which 11 hub genes were further identified. The 11 leaf and stem development genes in different pathways were validated using qRT-PCR. These findings can provide a theoretical basis for the mechanism of narrow-leaf and high-strength stalk formation in high-density-tolerance maize and contribute to the proposal of a breeding strategy for yield improvement.

Capillary water, serving as a crucial intermediary between groundwater and crop root layer moisture, is important for both soil retention and crop utilization. To investigate the effect of mulched drip irrigation (MDI) on upward capillary water in cotton fields with different application years (0, 10, 14, 18, 20, and 24 years) in the saline–sodic region of Northwest China, an indoor soil column test (one-dimensional capillary water rise experiment) was conducted. The results showed that the wetting front transport law, capillary water recharge, and wetting front transport rate over time exhibited an increasing trend in the early stages of MDI application (10 and 14 years), peaking at 18 years of application, followed by a decreasing trend. The relationship between the capillary water recharge and rising height was fitted based on the Green–Ampt model, and their slopes reveal that 14 and 18 years of MDI application required the largest amount of water per unit distance, indicating an excellent water-holding capacity beneficial for plant growth. Conversely, 0 years required the smallest amount of water per unit distance. Based on the movement characteristics of upper capillary water, we confirmed that the MDI application years (0–18 years) improves soil infiltration capacity, while the long-term application years (18–24 years) reduces groundwater replenishment to the soil. Furthermore, the HYDRUS-1D model was employed to simulate the capillary water rise process and soil moisture distribution under different MDl application years. The results showed an excellent consistency with the soil column experiments, confirming the accuracy of HYDRUS-1D in simulating the capillary water dynamics in saline–sodic areas. The results would provide suggestions to achieve the sustainable development of long-term drip-irrigated cotton fields.

Seaweed farming has made outstanding contributions to food supply and the restoration of the ecological environment despite the limitations in production and ecological effects due to the current intensive farming of single algae species. These limitations can be overcome by selecting suitable algal species based on their physiological characteristics and by constructing a large-scale seaweed rotation model. This study carried out a trial culture in aquaculture sea areas, and performed in situ monitoring of the environmental conditions and physiological characteristics of Saccharina japonica, Hizikia fusiformis, and Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis. Additionally, a comparative analysis of the three macroalgae at different times was conducted to determine their response characteristics to environmental factors. The results showed that: (1) The three macroalgae had varying light tolerance. The effective quantum yield of Hizikia fusiformis and Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis remained unchanged during the changes in light environment, while that of Saccharina japonica first decreased and then recovered. (2) The relative electron transport rates of the three macroalgae were significantly different under different temperature conditions. Hizikia fusiformis and Saccharina japonica exhibited the highest relative electron transport rates (70.45 and 106.75, respectively) in May (20.3 °C). Notably, Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis demonstrated good growth and exhibited the highest relative electron transport rate (93.07) in September (27.5 °C). These findings collectively support the feasibility of establishing a macroalgae rotation model. Based on the combined environmental conditions of the seas in Shandong, Zhejiang, and Fujian, a macroalgae rotation model was proposed. The application of this model in the construction of artificial seaweed farms in marine ranches can provide a stable output of large-scale seaweed production and ecological benefits.

The beetle, of the order Coleoptera, possesses outstanding flight capabilities. After completing flight, they can fold their hindwings under the elytra and swiftly unfold them again when they take off. This sophisticated hindwing structure is a result of biological evolution, showcasing the strong environmental adaptability of this species. The beetle’s hindwings can provide biomimetic inspiration for the design of flapping-wing micro air vehicles (FWMAVs). In this study, the Asian ladybird (Harmonia axyridis Pallas) was chosen as the bionic research object. Various kinematic parameters of its flapping flight were analyzed, including the flight characteristics of the hindwings, wing tip motion trajectories, and aerodynamic characteristics. Based on these results, a flapping kinematic model of the Asian ladybird was established. Then, three bionic deployable wing models were designed and their structural mechanical properties were analyzed. The results show that the structure of wing vein bars determined the mechanical properties of the bionic wing. This study can provide a theoretical basis and technical reference for further bionic wing design.
