2. The role of combining MR cholangiopancreatography and T1W imaging in detecting common bile duct micro-stones

Abstract

Objective: To assess the role of adding T1W images to MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) in detecting common bile duct (CBD) micro-stones. Subjects and Methods: From January 2005 to December 2006, a total of 104 patients with CBD stones were preoperatively studied by routine MRI and MRCP. Micro-stones, measuring less than 5 mm, were proven at surgery or ERCP following the MRI scans, within one to five days in 56/104 patients. Routine MRI scans included RF-FAST axial T1W images (TR/TE 155 ms/3.4 ms) and EXPRESS axial T2W (15000 ms/81 ms) as well as coronal T2W (15000 ms/81 ms) images. Features of CBD micro-calculi on T1W and MRCP images and the sensitivities of T1W images and MRCP for the diagnosis of CBD micro-stones were analyzed. Results: Among these 56 patients, gallbladder stones coexisted with choledocholithiasis in 30 patients and 7 patients had a past history of cholecystectomy for gallstones. The signal intensities of CBD micro-calculi on T1W images were high, relative to the low signal intensity of the bile in 47 patients. Filling defects on MRCP images were shown in 33 patients. Both T1W images alone and a combination of MRCP with T1W images had a higher sensitivity in detecting CBD micro-calculi than MRCP alone. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between the combination of MRCP with T1W images and MRCP alone in the ability to detect micro-stones (Fisher′s exact test, P < 0.01). Conclusion: For MRCP, adding a T1W sequence is helpful in increasing the sensitivity for diagnosing micro-calculi of the common bile ducts.

6. Large Model for Rotating Machine Fault Diagnosis Based on a Dense Connection Network With Depthwise Separable Convolution

Abstract

Most of the existing intelligent fault diagnosis models are suitable for only a type of rotating machine or equipment. To achieve the intelligent fault diagnosis for various rotating machines, it is significant to construct a diagnostic model with a powerful generalization ability. Thereupon, this work explores a large fault diagnosis model for a variety of rotary machines. To process the big data from a number of rotating machines and mine their fault characteristics effectively, a dense connection network with depthwise separable convolution (DCNDSC) is proposed as the large model. In this network, a dense connection with depthwise separable convolution block (DCDSCB) is designed for representing the complex vibration data and suppressing the over-fitting, and then a series of DCDSCBs are stacked so that DCNDSC can well extract various complicated characteristics caused by different faults and working conditions. A large rotating machine dataset including almost all public rotating machine data and our private data are built to train the large model. For enhancing the diagnostic ability of large model on the new monitoring data, a diminutive network fine-tuning strategy is proposed, while the main feature extraction capability of the pretrained DCNDSC is preserved. Ten fault datasets are applied to verify the high accuracy and strong generalization ability of the developed large model. This model is not only effectively applied to the fault diagnosis of actual rotating machinery but also first provides a pretraining large model for the field of mechanical fault diagnosis. Abstract

Porphyran sulfated galactan extracted from red algae Porphyra haitanensis is a sulfated polysaccharide, which possesses excellent activities. In the present study, WI-38 cells were treated with H2O2 to induce premature senescence and then the protection of porphyran against aging in vitro and associated molecular mechanisms were investigated. The protection occurred in a dose-dependent manner, offering an optimal efficacy starting at 10μg/mL. The proportion of SA-β-gal positive cells in porphyran group decreases from 53% to 23% in the cultures at 30 PDs. Porphyran has been detected specifically reducing SAHF-like foci formation in senescent cells. In addition, porphyran significantly affected the p53-p21 pathways in H2O2-treated WI-38 cells. Our data suggest the promising role of porphyran as an attractive and bio-safe agent with the potential to retard senescence and attenuate senescence-related diseases.

Abstract

During the last few years, there has been a strong economic growth around 30% in photovoltaic (PV) industry which has resulted in a shortage of polysilicon feedstock. On one hand, the supply of waste wafers from IC industry can not meet the need of PV industry. On the other hand, silicon feedstock made by siemens method has a much higher price and purity than the PV industry prefers. Therefore, the PV industry requires a new kind of silicon feedstock—solar grade silicon(SOG). It is well known that the price of solar cell module is still high for mass application and the cost of silicon wafer is about 40% of the cost of a module. Lots of new methods for the production of Solar Grade Silicon appeared, as it is important to reduce the cost of silicon feedstock for further development of PV industry. In this article, some of the recent development and approaches that might benefit the PV industry are reviewed and outlined. These new methods can be divided into two kinds according to their purification process: gas rectification methods and molten silicon purification methods. None of the methods has absolute advantage to the others. Each of the methods is still far from satisfaction to mass production and hence, further research is still necessary in this field.
