Marital quality may decrease during the early years of marriage. Establishing models predicting individualized marital quality may help develop timely and effective interventions to maintain or improve marital quality. Given that marital interactions have an important impact on marital well-being cross-sectionally and prospectively, neural responses during marital interactions may provide insight into neural bases underlying marital well-being. The current study applies connectome-based predictive modeling, a recently developed machine-learning approach, to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data from both partners of 25 early-stage Chinese couples to examine whether an individual's unique pattern of brain functional connectivity (FC) when responding to spousal interactive behaviors can reliably predict their own and their partners' marital quality after 13 months. Results revealed that husbands' FC involving multiple large networks, when responding to their spousal interactive behaviors, significantly predicted their own and their wives' marital quality, and this predictability showed gender specificity. Brain connectivity patterns responding to general emotional stimuli and during the resting state were not significantly predictive. This study demonstrates that husbands' differences in large-scale neural networks during marital interactions may contribute to their variability in marital quality and highlights gender-related differences. Social information processing is important for successful romantic relationships and protection against depression, and depends on functional connectivity (FC) within and between large-scale networks. Functional architecture evident at rest is adaptively reconfigured during a task, and there were two possible associations between brain reconfiguration and behavioral performance during neurocognitive tasks (efficiency effect and distraction-based effect). This study examined the relationships between brain reconfiguration during social information processing and relationship-specific and more general social outcomes in marriage. Resting-state FC was compared with FC during social information processing (watching relationship-specific and general emotional stimuli) of 29 heterosexual couples, and the FC similarity (reconfiguration efficiency) was examined in relation to marital quality and depression 13 months later. The results indicated that wives' reconfiguration efficiency (globally and in visual association network) during relationship-specific stimuli processing was related to their own marital quality. Higher reconfiguration efficiency (globally and in medial frontal, frontal-parietal, default mode, motor/sensory and salience networks) in wives during general emotional stimuli processing was related to their lower depression. These findings suggest efficiency effects on social outcomes during social cognition, especially among married women. The efficiency effects on relationship-specific and more general outcomes are, respectively, higher during relationship-specific stimuli or general emotional stimuli processing. Aims: To estimate the aggregated effect sizes of reward‐related decision‐making deficits in internet gaming disorder (IGD) and to explore potential moderators on the variability of effect sizes across studies. Design Review of peer‐reviewed studies comparing reward‐related decision‐making performance between IGD and control participants identified via PubMed, Web of Science and ProQuest databases. Random‐effects modeling was conducted using Hedge's g as the effect size (ES). The effects of decision‐making situation, valence, sample type, testing environment, IGD severity and self‐reported impulsivity on decision‐making differences were examined by moderator analyses. Setting: No restrictions on location. Participants: Twenty‐four studies (20 independent samples) were included in the meta‐analysis, resulting in 604 IGD and 641 control participants and 35 ESs. Measures Reward‐related decision‐making differences between IGD and control groups. Findings The overall ES for decision‐making deficits in IGD was small (g = −0.45, P < 0.01). The effects were comparable across risky, ambiguous and inter‐temporal decision‐making. Larger aggregate ESs were identified for pure‐gain and mixed compared with pure‐loss decision‐making. Studies based on clinical and community samples showed similar effects. No significant difference between behavioral studies and those with extra measurements was observed. Decision‐making alterations were not closely associated with IGD severity or self‐reported impulsivity differences at the study level. Psychobehavioral intervention is an effective treatment of Internet addiction, including Internet gaming disorder (IGD). However, the neural mechanisms underlying its efficacy remain unclear. Cortical-ventral striatum (VS) circuitry is a common target of psychobehavioral interventions in drug addiction, and cortical-VS dysfunction has been reported in IGD; hence, the primary aim of the study was to investigate how the VS circuitry responds to psychobehavioral interventions in IGD. In a cross-sectional study, we examined resting-state functional connectivity of the VS in 74 IGD subjects (IGDs) and 41 healthy controls (HCs). In a follow-up craving behavioral intervention (CBI) study, of the 74 IGD subjects, 20 IGD subjects received CBI (CBI+) and 16 IGD subjects did not (CBI-). All participants were scanned twice with similar time interval to assess the effects of CBI. IGD subjects showed greater resting-state functional connectivity of the VS to left inferior parietal lobule (lIPL), right inferior frontal gyrus and left middle frontal gyrus, in positive association with the severity of IGD. Moreover, compared with CBI-, CBI+ showed significantly greater decrease in VS-lIPL connectivity, along with amelioration in addiction severity following the intervention. These findings demonstrated that functional connectivity between VS and lIPL, each presumably mediating gaming craving and attentional bias, may be a potential biomarker of the efficacy of psychobehavioral intervention. These results also suggested that non-invasive techniques such as transcranial magnetic or direct current stimulation targeting the VS-IPL circuitry may be used in the treatment of Internet gaming disorders. The insula has been implicated in salience processing, craving, and interoception, all of which are critical to the clinical manifestations of drug and behavioral addiction. In this functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study, we examined resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) of the insula and its association with Internet gaming characteristics in 74 young adults with Internet gaming disorder (IGD) and 41 age- and gender-matched healthy control subjects (HCs). In comparison with HCs, IGD subjects (IGDs) exhibited enhanced rsFC between the anterior insula and a network of regions including anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), putamen, angular gyrus, and precuneous, which are involved in salience, craving, self-monitoring, and attention. IGDs also demonstrated significantly stronger rsFC between the posterior insula and postcentral gyrus, precentral gyrus, supplemental motor area, and superior temporal gyrus (STG), which are involved in interoception, movement control, and auditory processing. Furthermore, IGD severity was positively associated with connectivity between the anterior insula and angular gyrus, and STG, and with connectivity between the posterior insula and STG. Duration of Internet gaming was positively associated with connectivity between the anterior insula and ACC. These findings highlight a key role of the insula in manifestation of the core symptoms of IGD and the importance to examine functional abnormalities of the anterior and posterior insula separately in IGDs. Abstract: Organosilanes are incorporated into a commercial cathodic electrophoretic paint, resulting in significant improvement in the long-term corrosion protective properties of the paint. The addition of organosilanes have strengthened mechanical properties, improved hydrophobicity, lowered water uptake and less decrease in glass transition temperature of the coatings, suggesting the enhancement in bulk structure of the polymeric coatings. In addition, silane-enriched layer preferentially forms at the metal/coating interface during the electrophoresis process, leading to better adhesion between the substrate and the coating. The structural enhancement in both the coating and the metal/coating interface explains the improved corrosion performance of silane-incorporated electrophoretic coatings. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Red iron oxide pigmented epoxy coatings were prepared on aluminum alloys and were characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) immersed in NaCl solution. The evolutions of impedance models of coated metals were obtained by the fitting analysis of experimental data using suitable equivalent electrical circuits (EEC). The results indicated that the composite electrode system could be fitted by three impedance models. At the initial immersion stage, coatings acted as a barrier layer and only performed a simple circuit consisting of a coating resistance (R c) parallel to a coating capacitance (C c). After a certain time of exposure, water and (or) oxygen arrived at the metal surface through the coating, leading to the formation of electrochemical corrosion sites at metal interface and thereby the appearance of double-layer capacitance (C dl) and charge transfer resistance (R ct). After intensive attacking of metal substrates, the mass transfer of corrosion products was in difficulty. In this case, the diffusion elements were added to the EEC. It was found that due to the presence of inert pigment particles, the mass transfer behaviors were interestingly different from those of the varnish polymer coatings. Electrical parameters were also obtained from the EIS data. lnC c–time curve showed a Case II water sorption kinetics, typical non-Fickian diffusion for water uptake. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique, the analyses of impedance models and the water uptake processes of epoxy-coated mild steels and LY12 aluminum alloys immersed in 3.5% (weight fraction) NaCl solution were studied. The fitting results using suitable electrical equivalent circuits (EEC) suggested that there were four kinds of impedance models in the course of immersion. In the initial period of immersion, an EEC containing the coating capacitance and the coating resistance was used to fit the EIS data. Along with the immersion time, the number of time-constant of impedance spectra for metal/coating systems increased, indicating that corrosion reaction took place. After a certain time''s attacking of metal substrates, the diffusion process towards solution of corrosion products forming at the metal/coating interface might be restrained due to the presence of coating barrier, resulting in the appearance of diffusion elements. This diffusion did not act as an ideal Warburg behavior, leading to a deviation of dispersive number, n, from 0.5. After longer immersion times, the Cl- ions reached the surface of metal through the coating and participated in chemical reactions with corrosion products to form salt film on aluminum alloy surface. The formation of chloride ion-incorporation salt film resulted in the change of impedance spectrum characteristics. The studies revealed that the water transport in epoxy varnish coatings followed the Fickian diffusion law during the initial time of exposure to the testing solution. After immersion for a certain time, the water uptake reached saturation and the coating capacitance tended to a relatively steady value. According to the variation of coating capacitance with time, the water diffusion coefficient was deduced. The experimental results indicated that the water diffusion coefficients in epoxy coatings were slightly dependent on coating thickness and were to some extent influenced by substrate type. The similar surface chemical structures of epoxy coatings on different metals were found from the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)–attenuated total reflection (ATR) measurements. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of epoxy coatings prepared on different metal substrates before and after immersion was measured by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Lower diffusion rate of water in Al alloy based epoxy films than that in steel based ones was interpreted by the higher absolute value and smaller decrease of Tg of organic coatings painted on the former substrate. Objective: Do real-time strategy (RTS) video gamers have better attentional control? To examine this issue, we tested experienced versus inexperienced RTS video gamers on multi-object tracking tasks (MOT) and dual-MOT tasks with visual or auditory secondary tasks (dMOT). We employed a street-crossing task with a visual working memory task as a secondary task in a virtual reality (VR) environment to examine any generalized attentional advantage. Background: Similar to action video games, RTS video games require players to switch attention between multiple visual objects and views. However, whether the attentional control advantage is limited by sensory modalities or generalizes to real-life tasks remains unclear. Method: In study 1, 25 RTS video game players (SVGP) and 25 non-video game players (NVGP) completed the MOT task and two dMOT tasks. In study 2, a different sample with 25 SVGP and 25 NVGP completed a simulated street-crossing task with the visual dual task in a VR environment. Results: After controlling the effects of the speed-accuracy trade-off, SVGP showed better performance than NVGP in the MOT task and the visual dMOT task, but SVGP did not perform better in either the auditory dMOT task or the street-crossing task. Conclusion: RTS video gamers had better attentional control in visual computer tasks, but not in the auditory tasks and the VR tasks. Luteolin can affect multiple biological functions, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune enhancement processes. Luteolin can inhibit inflammation of T2-high asthma, but its role in neutrophilic asthma has been insufficently studied. This study determines the effect of luteolin on IL-36γ secretion-mediated MAPK pathway signalling in neutrophilic asthma. The asthma model was established by using ovalbumin/lipopolysaccharide (OVA/LPS). Female 6–8-week-old C57BL/6 mice were divided into control, asthma, luteolin (20 mg/kg) and asthma + luteolin (20 mg/kg) groups. To explore the mechanism of anti-inflammatory effects of luteolin in neutrophilic asthma, Beas-2B cells were treated with luteolin (20 µmol/L), LPS (100 ng/mL), recombinant human IL-36γ protein (rhIL-36γ; 100 ng/mL) or IL-36γ siRNA. IL-36γ secretion and MAPK/IL-1β signalling were significantly increased in the asthma mouse model compared with the control (p < 0.05). However, the levels of IL-36γ secretion and MAPK/IL-1β signalling were reduced by luteolin (p < 0.05). In addition, luteolin inhibited IL-36γ and MAPK/IL-1β levels after LPS (100 ng/mL) stimulation of Beas-2B cells (p < 0.05). We found that in Beas-2B cells, luteolin inhibited activation of the MAPK pathway and IL-1β secretion following stimulation with rhIL-36γ (100 ng/mL; p < 0.05). Finally, IL-1β and phosphorylated MAPK levels were found to be lower in the IL-36γ siRNA + LPS (100 ng/mL) group than in the nonspecific control (NC) siRNA + LPS group (p < 0.05). Luteolin alleviated neutrophilic asthma by inhibiting IL-36γ secretion-mediated MAPK pathways. Alterations in brain connectivity have been implicated in internet gaming disorder (IGD). However, little is known about alterations in whole-brain connectivity and their associations with long-term treatment outcomes. Here, we used a relatively new analytic approach, intrinsic connectivity distribution (ICD) analysis, to examine brain connectivity in 74 IGD participants and 41 matched healthy controls (HCs) and conducted post hoc seed-based resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) analyses based on the ICD findings. We also examined how these findings related to outcomes involving a craving behavioral intervention (CBI) for IGD. IGD participants showed less whole-brain connectivity in the left angular gyrus and ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) compared with HC participants. Seed-based rsFC analyses revealed that the left angular gyrus in the IGD group showed less connectivity with areas involved in the default-mode network and greater connectivity with areas in the salience and executive control networks. CBI was associated with improved connectivity within regions in the default-mode network and regions across the default-mode and salience networks. ICD-identified connectivity differences in the left angular gyrus and vmPFC were related to changes in craving and severity of addiction 6 months after the intervention. The findings suggest that IGD is associated with alterations in brain connectivity that may be sensitive to interventions. Screen media activity (SMA) consumes considerable time in youth's lives, raising concerns about the effects it may have on youth development. Disentangling mixed associations between SMA of youth and developmental measures should move beyond overall screen time and consider types and patterns of SMA. This study aimed to identify reliable and generalizable SMA patterns among youth and examine their associations with behavioral developmental measures and developing brain functional connectivity. Three waves of Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) data were examined. The Lifespan Human Connectome Project in Development (HCP-D) was interrogated as an independent sample. ABCD participants included 11,876 children at baseline. HCP-D participants included 652 children and adolescents. Youth-reported SMA and behavioral developmental measures (neurocognitive performance, behavioral problems, psychotic-like experiences, impulsivity, and sensitivities to punishment/reward) were assessed with validated instruments. We identified SMA patterns in the ABCD baseline data using K-means clustering and sensitivity analyses. Generalizability and stability of the identified SMA patterns were examined in HCP-D data and ABCD follow-up waves, respectively. Relations between SMA patterns and behavioral and brain (resting-state brain functional connectivity) measures were examined using linear mixed effects modeling with false discovery rate (FDR) correction. SMA data from 11,815 children (mean [SD] age = 119.0 [7.5] months; 6,159 [52.1%] boys) were examined; 3,151 (26.7%) demonstrated a video-centric higher-frequency SMA pattern, and 8,664 (73.3%) demonstrated a lower-frequency pattern. SMA patterns were validated in similarly aged HCP-D youth. Compared with the lower-frequency SMA pattern group, the video-centric higher-frequency SMA pattern group showed poorer neurocognitive performance (β = −.12, 95% CI [−0.08, −0.16], FDR-corrected p <.001), more total behavioral problems (β =.13, 95% CI [0.09, 0.18], FDR-corrected p <.001), and more psychotic-like experiences (β =.31, 95% CI [0.27, 0.36], FDR-corrected p <.001). The video-centric higher-frequency SMA pattern group demonstrated higher impulsivity, more sensitivity to punishment/reward, and altered resting-state brain functional connectivity among brain areas implicated previously in cognitive processes. Most of the associations persisted with age in the ABCD data, with more participants (n = 3,378, 30.4%) in the video-centric higher-frequency SMA group at 1-year follow-up. A social communication–centric SMA pattern was observed in HCP-D adolescents. Video-centric SMA patterns are reliable and generalizable during late childhood. A higher-frequency video entertainment SMA pattern group showed altered resting-state brain functional connectivity and poorer developmental measures that persisted longitudinally. The findings suggest that public health strategies to decrease excessive time spent by children on video entertainment–related SMA are needed. Further studies are needed to examine potential video-centric/social communication–centric SMA bifurcation to understand dynamic changes and trajectories of SMA patterns and related outcomes developmentally. Piezoelectric materials are sensitive to lattice strain, which is always related with their macroscopic properties. Therefore, it is of scientific significance to improve piezocatalytic performance by strain engineering and clarify the underlying mechanism. Herein, BaTiO3 (BTO) powder is fabricated by a solid‐state reaction and ball‐milling is employed to induce lattice strain in BTO. By prolonging ball‐milling time, the lattice strain increases, leading to an enhancement of tetragonality and piezocatalytic performance of BTO. The strain‐engineered BTO exhibited an excellent piezocatalytic activity, with a degradation rate constant k of ∼0.03 min−1 and a H2 evolution rate of 0.899 mmol g−1 h−1, which are 3 and 3.52 times those of the strain‐free one, respectively. The enhanced piezocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the improved piezoelectricity, piezoelectric polarization and adsorption activities for O2, OH and H of the strain‐engineered BTO. Aims: To identify subgroups of people with internet gaming disorder (IGD) based on addiction‐related resting‐state functional connectivity and how these subgroups show different clinical correlates and responses to treatment. Design: Secondary analysis of two functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data sets. Setting: Zhejiang province and Beijing, China. Participants: One hundred and sixty‐nine IGD and 147 control subjects. Measurements k‐Means algorithmic and support‐vector machine‐learning approaches were used to identify subgroups of IGD subjects. These groups were examined with respect to assessments of craving, behavioral activation and inhibition, emotional regulation, cue–reactivity and guessing‐related measures. Findings Two groups of subjects with IGD were identified and defined by distinct patterns of connectivity in brain networks previously implicated in addictions: subgroup 1 ('craving‐related subgroup') and subgroup 2 ('mixed psychological subgroup'). Clustering IGD on this basis enabled the development of diagnostic classifiers with high sensitivity and specificity for IGD subgroups in 10‐fold validation (n = 218) and out‐of‐sample replication (n = 98) data sets. Subgroup 1 is characterized by high craving scores, cue–reactivity during fMRI and responsiveness to a craving behavioral intervention therapy. Subgroup 2 is characterized by high craving, behavioral inhibition and activations scores, non‐adaptive emotion‐regulation strategies and guessing‐task fMRI measures. Subgroups 1 and 2 showed largely opposite functional–connectivity patterns in overlapping networks. Conclusions: There appear to be two subgroups of people with internet gaming disorder, each associated with differing patterns of brain functional connectivity and distinct clinical symptom profiles and gender compositions. In the present work, a pragmatic painting system with promising active protection property is proposed using electrodeposited silica (e-SiO 2 ) interlayer as the nanocontainer of inhibitors. A 10 μm thick, highly porous and well adherent sol-gel silica film was prepared at mild steel substrate under the aid of electro-assist technique. Such film was capable of embedding desired amount of corrosion inhibitors (polyvinylpyrrolidone and zinc gluconate), upon which the epoxy coating was covered. Both the accelerated corrosion tests on the scratched coating and the in-situ electrochemical measurements of intact sample revealed the significantly improved corrosion resistance of the novel coating system. Studies conducted in drug addiction suggest a transition in processing of drug-related cues from the ventral to the dorsal component of the striatum. However, this process has not been studied in a behavioral addiction. Assessment of this process in a non-drug addiction can provide insight into the pathophysiology of both substance and behavioral addictions. Thirty-nine male Internet gaming disorder (IGD) subjects and 23 male matched healthy controls (HCs) participated in functional magnetic resonance imaging during performance of a cue-reactivity task involving alternating presentation of Internet gaming-related stimuli (game cues) and general Internet surfing-related stimuli (control cues). Cue-induced neural activations in the ventral and dorsal striatum (DS) were compared between IGD and HC participants. Associations between cue-reactivity within these regions and cue-induced craving and severity and duration of IGD were also explored. IGD participants exhibited higher cue-induced activations within both the ventral and DS when compared with HCs. Within the IGD group, activity within the left ventral striatum (VS) was correlated negatively with cue-induced craving; positive associations were found between activations within the DS (right putamen, pallidum and left caudate) and duration of IGD. Cue-induced activity within the left putamen was negatively associated with right VS volumes among IGD participants. Consistent with studies in substance addictions, our results suggest that a transition from ventral to dorsal striatal processing may occur among individuals with IGD, a condition without the impact of substance intake. Individuals with addictions often encounter environmental cues that may trigger repeated engagement in addictive behaviors despite adverse consequences. In substance use disorders, Pavlovian cues may influence instrumental behaviors (Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer or PIT), and dominant habitual control that is insensitive to outcome values may serve as a foundational mechanism in addiction development. Although existing research suggests learning associations play important roles in internet gaming disorder (IGD), the contributions of PIT effects, habitual control, and connections with behavior remain largely uninvestigated. The present study sought to examine specific transfer effects of monetary cues, general transfer effects of gaming-related cues, and habitual control over instrumental behaviors as reflected in devaluation sensitivity, probing their interrelations and associations with gaming behaviors. Forty-five adults with IGD and 42 adults with recreational game use (RGU) at baseline performed a PIT task with a devaluation procedure. Participants reported gaming behavior and addiction severity at baseline and a four-month follow-up. Results demonstrated (1) a greater specific transfer effect in the IGD group compared to the RGU group; (2) positive correlations between specific and general transfer effects in both groups; (3) specific transfer effects of Go behavior in the IGD group positively correlating with habitual control, and No-Go behavior in the RGU group negatively correlating with habitual control; (4) transfer effects and habitual control relating prospectively to participants' gaming phenotypes at the four-month follow-up. The aggregation of α -synuclein often links to the occurrence and development of Parkinson's disease (PD). It is crucial to detect the α -synuclein fibril or monitor the aggregation of monomer for pharmacological and pathological researches, drug development and clinical diagnosis, etc. In this study, the Nile red (NR)-based carbon dots (NR-CDs) were meticulously designed and prepared. The NR-CDs were sensitive to the microenvironment, exhibiting enhanced fluorescence intensity with the elevated viscosity and decreased polarity. Thus, the NR-CDs exhibited high affinity towards α -synuclein fibril with remarkable red fluorescence enhancement, but did not respond to its monomer. Hence, the NR-CDs were used as the turn-on fluorescence probe to detect and image α -synuclein fibrils both in vitro and in vivo , as well as to monitor the aggregation process of the amyloids. Superior to NR dye, NR-CDs were characteristic of lower toxicity, better water dispersibility and anti-photobleaching resistance. In addition, the NR-CDs were demonstrated to inhibit the aggregation of α -synuclein, holding the potential as the therapeutic agent. The present study provided an effective way of designing the CDs using the small molecular dye as the carbon source to improve the biocompatibility and detectability, while reserve the selective turn-on fluorescence towards amyloid aggregates. This strategy may be generalized to construct more fluorescence probes with desired properties. Neural mechanisms underlying internet gaming disorder (IGD) are important for diagnostic considerations and treatment development. However, neurobiological underpinnings of IGD remain relatively poorly understood. We employed multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA), a machine-learning approach, to examine the potential of neural features to statistically predict IGD status and treatment outcome (percentage change in weekly gaming time) for IGD. Cue-reactivity fMRI-task data were collected from 40 male IGD subjects and 19 male healthy control (HC) subjects. 23 IGD subjects received 6 weeks of craving behavioral intervention (CBI) treatment. MVPA was applied to classify IGD subjects from HCs and statistically predict clinical outcomes. MVPA displayed a high (92.37%) accuracy (sensitivity of 90.00% and specificity of 94.74%) in the classification of IGD and HC subjects. The most discriminative brain regions that contribute to classification were the bilateral middle frontal gyrus, precuneus, and posterior lobe of the right cerebellum. MVPA statistically predicted clinical outcomes in the craving behavioral intervention (CBI) group (r = 0.48, p = 0.0032). The most strongly implicated brain regions in the prediction model were the right middle frontal gyrus, superior frontal gyrus, supramarginal gyrus, anterior/posterior lobes of the cerebellum and left postcentral gyrus. Internet gaming disorder (IGD), a worldwide mental health issue, has been widely studied using neuroimaging techniques during the last decade. Although dysfunctions in resting‐state functional connectivity have been reported in IGD, mapping relationships from abnormal connectivity patterns to behavioral measures have not been fully investigated. Connectome‐based predictive modeling (CPM)—a recently developed machine‐learning approach—has been used to examine potential neural mechanisms in addictions and other psychiatric disorders. To identify the resting‐state connections associated with IGD, we modified the CPM approach by replacing its core learning algorithm with a support vector machine. Resting‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data were acquired in 72 individuals with IGD and 41 healthy comparison participants. The modified CPM was conducted with respect to classification and regression. A comparison of whole‐brain and network‐based analyses showed that the default‐mode network (DMN) is the most informative network in predicting IGD both in classification (individual identification accuracy = 78.76%) and regression (correspondence between predicted and actual psychometric scale score: r = 0.44, P < 0.001). To facilitate the characterization of the aberrant resting‐state activity in the DMN, the identified networks have been mapped into a three‐subsystem division of the DMN. Objective: Asthma, a well-known disease with high morbidity, is characterized by chronic airway inflammation. However, the allergic inflammation mechanisms of follistatin-like protein 1 (FSTL1) have not been elucidated. This study aims to investigate the effects of FSTL1 in ovalbumin (OVA)-induced mice and macrophages on nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat protein 3 (NLRP3)/interleukin-1β (IL-1β) signaling pathway. Methods: Mice were randomly divided into control-WT, OVA-WT, control-Fstl1±, OVA-Fstl1±. Histological changes were assessed by HE and PAS staining. The protein levels of Muc-5AC, FSTL1, NLRP3, and IL-1β in lung tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry and ELISA. The bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in mice and human serum samples were detected by ELISA. Then, mice were grouped into control, FSTL1, MCC950 + FSTL1 to further investigate the relationship between FSTL1 and NLRP3/IL-1β. Alveolar macrophage cells (MH-S cells) were separated into control, OVA, FSTL1, OVA + FSTL1, OVA + siNC, OVA + siFSTL1, MCC950, and FSTL1 + MCC950 groups to explore the effect of FSTL1 on the NLRP3/IL-1β signaling. The protein expression of NLRP3 and IL-1β in MH-S cells was detected by Western blot analysis. Results: The present results uncovered that Fstl1± significantly ameliorated OVA-induced Muc-5AC production and mucus hypersecretion. Fstl1± was also found to decrease the production of inflammatory cytokines and inflammatory cell infiltration in OVA-induced asthmatic mice. Meanwhile, the serum concentrations of FSTL1 and IL-1β were higher in asthma subjects than the health subjects, and Fstl1± ameliorated the production of NLRP3 and IL-1β in OVA-induced asthmatic mice. Furthermore, mice by injected FSTL1 substantially stimulated the expression of NLRP3 and IL-1β, while pretreatment with MCC950 in mice significantly weakened the production of NLRP3 and IL-1β induced by injection FSTL1. Pretreatment with siFSTL1 or MCC950 significantly reduced the production of NLRP3 and IL-1β induced by OVA or FSTL1 in MH-S cells. Conclusions: The study results showed that FSTL1 played an important role in allergic airway inflammation by activating NLRP3/IL-1β. Antibiotic resistance frequently evolves through fitness trade-offs in which the genetic alterations that confer resistance to a drug can also cause growth defects in resistant cells. Here, through experimental evolution in a microfluidics-based turbidostat, we demonstrate that antibiotic-resistant cells can be efficiently inhibited by amplifying the fitness costs associated with drug-resistance evolution. Using tavaborole-resistant Escherichia coli as a model, we show that genetic mutations in leucyl-tRNA synthetase (that underlie tavaborole resistance) make resistant cells intolerant to norvaline, a chemical analog of leucine that is mistakenly used by tavaborole-resistant cells for protein synthesis. We then show that tavaborole-sensitive cells quickly outcompete tavaborole-resistant cells in the presence of norvaline due to the amplified cost of the molecular defect of tavaborole resistance. This finding illustrates that understanding molecular mechanisms of drug resistance allows us to effectively amplify even small evolutionary vulnerabilities of resistant cells to potentially enhance or enable adaptive therapies by accelerating posttreatment competition between resistant and susceptible cells. Neuroimaging evidence has implicated the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in regulating craving or emotions. This study aims at examining whether anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over a specific region of the PFC would enhance both regulation processes. Thirty-three men with internet gaming disorder received active (1.5 mA for 20 minutes) and sham tDCS over the right dorsolateral PFC (dlPFC) one week apart in a randomized order. During each stimulation session, participants regulated craving for gaming during a regulation of craving (ROC) task and negative emotions during an emotion regulation (ER) task using cognitive reappraisal. Subjective ratings of craving and negative emotions and skin conductance responses (SCRs) were recorded. For both craving and negative emotions, tDCS of the right dlPFC facilitated downregulation and upregulation: active relative to sham tDCS decreased ratings (ROC: 95% CI of difference -1.38 to -0.56, p < 0.001; ER: -1.65 to -0.70, p < 0.001) and/or SCRs (ROC: -1.99 to -0.41 μs, p = 0.004) for downregulation, and increased ratings (ROC: 0.24 to 0.82, p = 0.001; ER: 0.26 to 0.72, p < 0.001) for upregulation. These findings provide the first experimental evidence confirming that tDCS of the right dlPFC enhances both craving- and negative-emotion-regulation. Understanding the neural mechanisms underlying Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is essential for the condition's diagnosis and treatment. Nevertheless, the pathological mechanisms of IGD remain elusive at present. Hence, we employed multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA) and spectral dynamic causal modeling (spDCM) to explore this issue. Resting-state fMRI data were collected from 103 IGD subjects (male = 57) and 99 well-matched recreational game users (RGUs, male = 51). Regional homogeneity was calculated as the feature for MVPA based on the support vector machine (SVM) with leave-one- out cross-validation. Mean time series data extracted from the brain regions in accordance with the MVPA results were used for further spDCM analysis. Results display a high accuracy of 82.67% (sensitivity of 83.50% and specificity of 81.82%) in the classification of the two groups. The most discriminative brain regions that contributed to the classification were the bilateral parahippocampal gyrus (PG), right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), and middle frontal gyrus (MFG). Significant correlations were found between addiction severity (IAT and DSM scores) and the ReHo values of the brain regions that contributed to the classification. Moreover, the results of spDCM showed that compared with RGU, IGD showed decreased effective connectivity from the left PG to the right MFG and from the right PG to the ACC and decreased self-connection in the right PG. • Effort-based decision-making is best described by a power discounting model. • Multivariate dmPFC patterns represent subjective value across tasks and datasets. • These effects may not be detectable by univariate fMRI analyses. • These findings extend the scope of the neural common currency theory. Decisions that require taking effort costs into account are ubiquitous in real life. The neural common currency theory hypothesizes that a particular neural network integrates different costs (e.g., risk) and rewards into a common scale to facilitate value comparison. Although there has been a surge of interest in the computational and neural basis of effort-related value integration, it is still under debate if effort-based decision-making relies on a domain-general valuation network as implicated in the neural common currency theory. Therefore, we comprehensively compared effort-based and risky decision-making using a combination of computational modeling, univariate and multivariate fMRI analyses, and data from two independent studies. We found that effort-based decision-making can be best described by a power discounting model that accounts for both the discounting rate and effort sensitivity. At the neural level, multivariate decoding analyses indicated that the neural patterns of the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) represented subjective value across different decision-making tasks including either effort or risk costs, although univariate signals were more diverse. These findings suggest that multivariate dmPFC patterns play a critical role in computing subjective value in a task-independent manner and thus extend the scope of the neural common currency theory. Cue-induced brain reactivity has been suggested to be a fundamental and important mechanism explaining the development, maintenance, and relapse of addiction, including Internet gaming disorder (IGD). Altered activity in addiction-related brain regions has been found during cue-reactivity in IGD using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), but less is known regarding the alterations of coordinated whole brain activity patterns in IGD. To investigate the activity of temporally coherent, large-scale functional brain networks (FNs) during cue-reactivity in IGD, independent component analysis was applied to fMRI data from 29 male subjects with IGD and 23 matched healthy controls (HC) performing a cue-reactivity task involving Internet gaming stimuli (i.e., game cues) and general Internet surfing-related stimuli (i.e., control cues). Four FNs were identified that were related to the response to game cues relative to control cues and that showed altered engagement/disengagement in IGD compared with HC. These FNs included temporo-occipital and temporo-insula networks associated with sensory processing, a frontoparietal network involved in memory and executive functioning, and a dorsal-limbic network implicated in reward and motivation processing. Within IGD, game versus control engagement of the temporo-occipital and frontoparietal networks were positively correlated with IGD severity. Similarly, disengagement of temporo-insula network was negatively correlated with higher game-craving. These findings are consistent with altered cue-reactivity brain regions reported in substance-related addictions, providing evidence that IGD may represent a type of addiction. A novel electrochemically assisted deposition technique (EAT) was proposed to construct graphene-based nanocontainers that store corrosion inhibitors. EAT enables graphene (Gr, rather than graphene oxide, GO) to be used for the first time to fabricate composite nanocontainers. Silica films deposited on graphene nanosheets by EAT have high coverage, strong adherence and can be up to 60 nm thick. The resulting Gr/SiO 2 nanocontainers were further modified by dodecyltrimethoxysilane (DTMS) to prepare superhydrophobic nanocontainers. The high-barrier graphene and hydrophobically modified SiO 2 in Gr/SiO 2 /DTMS nanocontainers could synergistically resist corrosive mediums. This meta-analytic study aimed to identify the common and specific neural alterations in Internet gaming disorder (IGD) across different domains and modalities. Two separate meta-analyses for functional neural activation and gray-matter volume were conducted. Sub-meta-analyses for the domains of reward, cold-executive, and hot-executive functions were also performed, respectively. IGD subjects, compared with healthy controls, showed: (1) hyperactivation in the anterior and posterior cingulate cortices, caudate, posterior inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), which were mainly associated with studies measuring reward and cold-executive functions; and, (2) hypoactivation in the anterior IFG in relation to hot-executive function, the posterior insula, somatomotor and somatosensory cortices in relation to reward function. Furthermore, IGD subjects showed reduced gray-matter volume in the anterior cingulate, orbitofrontal, dorsolateral prefrontal, and premotor cortices. These findings suggest that IGD is associated with both functional and structural neural alterations in fronto-striatal and fronto-cingulate regions. Moreover, multi-domain assessments capture different aspects of neural alterations in IGD, which may be helpful for developing effective interventions targeting specific functions. In this study, we set out to fabricate an amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) thin-film transistor (TFT) with SiN x /HfO 2 /SiN x (SHS) sandwiched dielectrics. The J-V and C-V of this SHS film were extracted by the Au/p-Si/SHS/Ti structure. At room temperature the a-IGZO with SHS dielectrics showed the following electrical properties: a threshold voltage of 2.9 V, a subthreshold slope of 0.35 V/decade, an on/off current ratio of 3.5 × 10 7 , and a mobility of 12.8 cm 2 V −1 s −1 . Finally, we tested the influence of gate bias stress on the TFT, and the result showed that the threshold voltage shifted to a positive voltage when applying a positive gate voltage to the TFT. Decisional impulsivity represents an important phenotype and a therapeutic target in Internet gaming disorder (IGD). Reality therapy and mindfulness meditation were two approaches to reduce impulsivity. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a group behavioral intervention combining reality therapy and mindfulness meditation in reducing decisional impulsivity and IGD severity. Twenty-five IGD and 21 healthy comparison (HC) young adults participated in baseline tests on the delay discounting and balloon analog risk tasks to measure intertemporal and risky decision-making respectively. Among them, 18 IGD subjects participated in the intervention and were tested again at the end of intervention, and 19 HC subjects without intervention were also tested twice within a similar time period. Results indicate that: (1) at baseline, IGD subjects showed greater intertemporal and risky decisional impulsivity than HC subjects; (2) After intervention, IGD subjects were decreased in delay discounting rate and IGD severity, but did not perform differently on decisional impulsivity in risky choices, as compared with baseline. These findings suggest that decisional impulsivity is a multifaceted behavioral construct and may serve as a possible therapeutic target for IGD. In addition, these results highlight the need for further research into the roles of different forms of decisional impulsivity in the shaping, maintenance, and remission of IGD. Abnormal interactions among addiction brain networks associated with intoxication, negative affect, and anticipation may have relevance for internet gaming disorder (IGD). Despite prior studies having identified gender-related differences in the neural correlates of IGD, gender-related differences in the involvement of brain networks remain unclear. One-hundred-and-nine individuals with IGD (54 males) and 111 with recreational game use (RGU; 58 males) provided resting-state fMRI data. We examined gender-related differences in involvement of addiction brain networks in IGD versus RGU subjects. We further compared the strength between and within addiction brain networks and explored possible relationships between the strength of functional connectivities within and between addiction brain networks and several relevant behavioral measures. The addiction brain networks showed high correct classification rates in distinguishing IGD and RGU subjects in men and women. Male subjects with versus without IGD showed stronger functional connectivities between and within addiction brain networks. Moreover, the strength of the connectivity within the anticipation network in male IGD subjects was positively related to subjective craving. However, female subjects with versus without IGD showed decreased functional connections between and within addiction brain networks. The strength of connectivity between the anticipation and negative-affect brain networks in female IGD subjects was negatively related to maladaptive cognitive emotion-regulation strategies. Addiction brain networks have potential for distinguishing IGD and RGU individuals. Importantly, this study identified novel gender-related differences in brain-behavior relationships in IGD. A growing body of evidence indicates that both inhibition and decision-making deficits play essential roles in the development and maintenance of Internet gaming disorder (IGD). Clarifying whether impaired decision-making among individuals with IGD is related to poor inhibition will advance our understanding of IGD and contribute to intervention development. However, the relationship between these two functions remains unclear. In this study, we sought to systemically examine inhibitory processes, decision-making and the relationship between the two among individuals with IGD. Thirty-four individuals with IGD and 32 matched healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. In comparison to HCs, IGD subjects demonstrated inhibition deficits during performance of the gaming-related Go/No-Go task and impaired decision-making under risk. In addition, errors on No-Go trials during the gaming-related Go/No-Go task were positively associated with decision-making impairments under risk but not under ambiguity among IGD subjects. These results suggest individuals with IGD are impaired in some aspects of inhibition and decision-making functions, and that decision-making deficits under risk are linked to poor inhibition specifically related to gaming cues, which has implications for the development of novel intervention. Neuropathic pain, characterized by spontaneous pain, hyperalgesia and allodynia, is a devastating neurological disease that seriously affects patients' quality of life. We have previously shown that tanshinone IIA (TIIA), an important lipophilic component of Danshen, had significant anti-nociceptive effect in somatic and visceral pain, it is surprisingly noted that few pharmacological studies have been carried out to explore the possible analgesic action of TIIA on neuropathic pain and the underlying mechanisms. Therefore, in the present study, by using spinal nerve ligation (SNL) pain model, the antinociceptive and antihyperalgesic effects of TIIA on neuropathic pain were evaluated by intraperitoneal administration in rats. The results indicated that TIIA dose-dependently inhibited SNL-induced mechanical hyperalgesia. As revealed by OX42 levels, TIIA effectively repressed the activation of spinal microglial activation in SNL-induced neuropathic pain. Meanwhile, TIIA also decreased the expressions of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β in the spinal cord. Furthermore, TIIA inhibited oxidative stress by significantly rescuing the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and decreasing the malondialdehyde (MDA). Moreover, TIIA depressed SNL-induced MAPKs activation in spinal cord. Conclusion Taken together, our study provides evidence that TIIA inhibited SNL-induced neuropathic pain through depressing microglial activation and immune response by the inhibition of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) pathways. Individuals with Internet gaming disorder (IGD) tend to exhibit disadvantageous risky decision-making not only in their real life but also in laboratory tasks. Decision-making is a complex multifaceted function and different cognitive processes are involved in decision-making for gains and losses. However, the relationship between impaired decision-making and gain versus loss processing in the context of IGD is poorly understood. The main aim of the present study was to separately evaluate decision-making for risky gains and losses among college students with IGD using the Cups task. Additionally, we further examined the effects of outcome magnitude and probability level on decision-making related to risky gains and losses respectively. Sixty college students with IGD and 42 matched healthy controls (HCs) participated. Results indicated that IGD subjects exhibited generally greater risk taking tendencies than HCs. In comparison to HCs, IGD subjects made more disadvantageous risky choices in the loss domain (but not in the gain domain). Follow-up analyses indicated that the impairment was associated to insensitivity to changes in outcome magnitude and probability level for risky losses among IGD subjects. In addition, higher Internet addiction severity scores were associated with percentage of disadvantageous risky options in the loss domain. These findings emphasize the effect of insensitivity to losses on disadvantageous decisions under risk in the context of IGD, which has implications for future intervention studies. Sandwich-type microporous hybrid carbon nanosheets (MHCN) consisting of graphene and microporous carbon layers are fabricated using graphene oxides as shape-directing agent and the in-situ formed poly(benzoxazine- co-resol) as carbon precursor. The reaction and condensation can be readily completed within 45 min. The obtained MHCN has a high density of accessible micropores that reside in the porous carbon with controlled thickness (e.g., 17 nm), a high surface area of 1293 m2 g−1 and a narrow pore size distribution of ca. 0.8 nm. These features allow an easy access, a rapid diffusion and a high loading of charged ions, which outperform the diffusion rate in bulk carbon and are highly efficient for an increased double-layer capacitance. Meanwhile, the uniform graphene percolating in the interconnected MHCN forms the bulk conductive networks and their electrical conductivity can be up to 120 S m−1 at the graphene percolation threshold of 2.0 wt.%. The best-practice two-electrode test demonstrates that the MHCN show a gravimetric capacitance of high up to 103 F g−1 and a good energy density of ca. 22.4 Wh kg−1 at a high current density of 5 A g−1. Abstract: Data were collected from 3556 Chinese junior and senior high school students to explore the associations between adolescent pathological Internet use (PIU) and parental variables, including parent–adolescent communication, parental Internet use and parental Internet-specific norms regarding adolescent Internet use. In particular, this study considered the different role of parental variables under two conditions: parental norms that were consistent or inconsistent with parents’ Internet use behaviors. The participants were asked to answer an anonymous questionnaire that included all mentioned factors. The results revealed an 11% rate of adolescent PIU, and hierarchical multiple regressions indicated that parent–adolescent communication predicted PIU negatively under both conditions. When parental norms were consistent with their Internet use behaviors, parental norms predicted adolescent PIU negatively; conversely, when parental norms were inconsistent with their Internet use behaviors, parental behaviors predicted adolescent PIU positively. A high accuracy laser interferometric dilatometer with a resolution of less than l nm has been developed in the National Institute of Metrology, China. This instrument is based on a single frequency polarized interferometer. The disadvantage of the single frequency procedure is that the zero may drift with time. In order to improve the stability, we developed a procedure to correct the effect of this drift, to ensure the stability of the device within 1 nm. The performance of the new device has been examined by measuring some reference materials. The Standard Reference Material 738(austenitic stainless steel) from the National Institute of Standard and Technology was measured over the temperature range from 300K to 770K. The measured linear Expansion Coefficient agreed with the values referred by NIST of the relative deviation less than 1.7% with the combined standard uncertainty at room temperature of 3.4 x 10-2(n = 2). The silicon sample was measured over the range from 770 K to 1200 K, and the measurement results were in good agreement with the recommended values by the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA). Abstract: Alternate Lightening Display Method (ALDM) for surface-conduction electron-emission display (SED) is proposed to help cutting down the panel fabrication cost. Since the landing position of the emitted electrons on the phosphor plate is mainly determined by the polarity of the device voltage and close to the positive voltage electrode, the same dynamic resolution can be obtained by ALDM with only half surface-conduction electron-emitters (SCEs) compared with the conventional panel. The experiment shows six luminescence lines can be generated with three SCE lines. The emitted electron excursion on the phosphor plate is analyzed with a simplified model, and it is in good agreement with the experiment result. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) represent a new method for simultaneous wastewater treatment and biological electricity generation. In this study, an air-cathode MFC with membrane electrode assembly was operated over four batch cycles (a total period of 140 d) and results indicated that starch processing wastewater containing 4852mg/l of chemical oxygen demand could be used as substrate to produce electricity with this MFC. Maximum voltage output and power density of 490.8mV and 239.4mW/m2 (a current density of 893.3mA/m2) were approached in the third cycle, which also had the minimum internal resistance of about 120Ω and maximum coulombic efficiency of 8.0%. Removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand and ammonia-nitrogen increased as a function of time, and maximum amounted to 98.0% and 90.6%, respectively. Scanning electron microscope image revealed that short rod shaped bacillus were the dominant bacteria on the biofilm of the anode, whose electrochemical activity was proved by cyclic voltammetry. These results demonstrate that starch processing wastewater can be used for power generation in MFCs and also can be treated with high removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand and ammonia-nitrogen. • This systematic review was designed to relate theories of IA to treatments, describe the studies of psychotherapies for IA, and propose a model of intervention and addiction based on extant studies. • The investigated targeted domains and intervention methods employed are not mutually exclusive, and further research is needed to identify the effective components and mechanisms of action for treatments of IA. • Interventions based on different aspects of IA have been shown to have different effects. To intervene the addiction more effectively, a targeted intervention scheme should be designed based on the individual's extant susceptibility factors and combined with the emerging behavioral and cognitive characteristics. Internet addiction (IA) may constitute a widespread and serious mental problem. Previous reviews have not fully considered potential factors that may contribute to therapeutic outcomes or predict behavioral changes. Such information is relevant to understand the active ingredients of interventions and to develop more efficacious treatments that target features of IA. This systematic review was designed to relate theories of IA to treatments, describe studies of psychotherapies for IA, and propose a model of addiction and interventions based on extant studies. A computer database search of PubMed, PsychINFO, ScienceDirect, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Google Scholar was conducted to identify all available research evidence on psychological treatments for IA (N = 31 studies). Among these psychological interventions, the targeted reduction of addiction-related impulsivity and craving, improvement of cognitive maladjustment, and alleviation of family problems have been investigated in IA interventions. The targeted domains and intervention methods are not mutually exclusive, and further research is needed to demonstrate the effective components and mechanisms of action for treatments of IA. Abstract: The land near a Pb/Zn smelter in the vicinity of Shaoguan city of Southern China, contaminated with heavy metals by smelting activities, was revegetated using an indigenous plant (Paulownia fortunei). The structure and function of the soil bacterial community were investigated to examine whether such microbial indexes could be used as indicators of changes in abiotic environment and vegetative parameters. Soil samples were analyzed for bacterial community level physiological profiles (CLPP) and molecular fingerprinting of 16S rRNA genes. The average well color development (AWCD), functional diversity (H F), and carbon substrate richness (R S) were high in the two young revegetated sites (revegetated for 2 and 3 years, respectively), and low in the old revegetated site (revegetated for 5 years). The structural diversity (H S) and ribotype (R T) showed an identical trend. Changes in the culturable bacterial community structure and function were not correlated with the revegetation age or heavy metal content, but were closely correlated with a number of soil physico-chemical and vegetative parameters. Therefore, the results suggest that the structural and functional parameters of soil culturable bacterial community may be used as sensitive indicators of changes in soil physico-chemical and vegetative parameters during the early stage of revegetation in this area that has been chronically contaminated by heavy metals. Abstract: Astragaloside IV, a natural product purified from the Chinese medical herb Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch) Bge, is now being developed as a cardioprotective agent for treating cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of the present study was to examine in vivo pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution in both rats and dogs by using an established high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with tandem mass spectrometry quantitative detection method. Astragaloside IV showed moderate to fast elimination; the elimination half-life of astragaloside IV was 98.1, 67.2 and 71.8 min in male rats, and 34.0, 66.9 and 131.6 min in female rats at doses of 0.75, 1.5 and 3.0 mg/kg, respectively. There was no significant difference in systemic clearance at three dose levels, suggesting that astragaloside IV may have linear pharmacokinetic characteristics in rats within the dose ranges tested. The highest concentration of astragaloside IV was detected in the lung and liver. However, limited distribution to the brain, indicates that astragaloside IV may have difficulty penetrating the blood brain barrier. In addition, only about 50% of the parent astragaloside IV was recovered in both urine and feces. These results indicate that there was about 83% astragaloside IV binding to plasma protein and that the binding to the plasma is linear at the concentration range of 250–1000 ng/ml. As in rats, astragaloside IV may have linear pharmacokinetic characteristics in dogs within the dose ranges tested. Astragaloside IV was slowly cleared via hepatic clearance with a systemic clearance (CL) of about 0.004 l/kg/min. Based on the favorable pharmacokinetic properties in both rats and dogs, astragaloside IV warrants further investigation for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the electrocatalytic behavior and degradation characteristics of IrO2-based electrodes in Na2SO4 solutions containing C1 compounds (CH3OH, HCHO and HCOOH). Decreases are generally observed in the electrochemically active area, electrochemical stability and durability of the electrodes in aqueous solutions in the presence of these organic substrates. The following sequence holds for the influence of C1 compounds on the electrode properties (i.e. activity and stability): CH3OH>HCHO>HCOOH. The corrosion characteristics of electrode are studied by X-ray diffraction measurements. For the first time, the decomposition and dissolution of active oxide layers are quantitatively characterized from the decreases in cell volume of rutile-structured IrO2 crystallite and from the increases in texture coefficient of (002) planes, respectively, as a result of the accelerated lifetime tests. Secondary aerosol (SA) is considered to be an increasingly dangerous air pollutant. However, quantification of SA has suffered from considerable uncertainty due to its poorly understood formation mechanism. In this study, a simplified approach based on characterizing coal combustion emission indicators polonium-210 (210Po), selenium (Se) and arsenic (As) was used to estimate SA loading (increment) during a heavy air pollution event in December 2016 in Beijing. Due to the insignificant input and output of air pollutants as well as the assumption of non-local emissions during this heavy air pollution event, a steady-state method of severe air pollution has been proposed to estimate SA increment (the sum of newly formed secondary inorganic aerosols and secondary organic aerosols) during this typical air pollution event. Corresponding algorithm of the method was developed depending on the characteristics of coal combustion related pollutants (210Po, Se, and As). The results indicated that the median contribution of newly formed SA to total suspended particulates (TSP) during this heavy air pollution event was 42.4% (interquartile range [IQR]: 36.6%–48.8%), which quantitatively confirms the dominant contribution of substantial enhancement of SA to heavy air pollution. Although further verification is needed, this steady-state method of evaluating severe air pollution has potential for quantification of the SA increment.
