The study's objective was to identify the features of internal movement structure that depend on speed and the importance of unloading when jogging on an anti-gravity treadmill. The aim was to investigate whether the internal structure of running changes under unloaded conditions, using an anti-gravity treadmill. Twenty male competitive middle- and long-distance runners with the following characteristics participated in the study: age, 25 ± 5 years; body weight, 67.2 ± 8.9 kg; body height, 177 ± 11 cm; and training experience, 9 ± 5 years. The gastrocnemius (GC), tibialis anterior (T), quadriceps femoris (Q), biceps femoris (B), and gluteus (G) were the five lower limb muscles whose muscle activity was evaluated. Surface electromyography (sEMG) was used to measure muscle activation while jogging and running on the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill. The study method involved capturing the examined muscular activity at four different speeds: 6, 10, 14, and 18 km/h. At each of these speeds, four two-minute measurements were taken with varying body weight relief: 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% of body weight. Repeated measures multivariate analysis of variance (RM-MANOVA) [F = 3.4663 p = 0.0001] showed that as running speed increases, the muscular activity of each muscle, expressed as a percentage of maximum muscle tension (%MVIC), decreases significantly. Results indicate that running pace affects the dynamics of the reduction in muscle activity in every examined muscle. As one runs faster, the decline in dynamics becomes more intense. At the slowest jogging pace (6 km/h), the variations were almost negligible (±4 percentage points between 25% and 100% body weight relief) as unloading increased. However, the discrepancies reached up to 14 percentage points at the fastest running speed (18 km/h). In every muscle studied, distinctive patterns and significant dynamics at high speeds were observed. The study's findings suggest that using an anti-gravity treadmill for training can be beneficial, yet it is important to consider the significant relationships between speed and relief, as these variables could impact maintaining a proper movement pattern and running style. This study aimed to investigate the effects of a single bench press (BP) vs. leg press (LP) resistance training sessions on testosterone, cortisol, C-reactive protein (CRP) interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) concentrations, and creatine kinase (CK) activity in strength-trained males. Eleven strength-trained males participated in a cross-over randomized trial, undergoing two experimental sessions each consisting of five sets of the BP or the LP exercise to volitional failure with a load corresponding to 50% of one-repetition maximum. Blood samples were taken at baseline (BA), immediately post (POST), and 1 h after the cessation of exercise (POST-1). A significant increase in IL-6 concentration from BA to POST-1 was observed during the LP condition (p = 0.004; effect size [ES] = 0.64). Additionally, a significant main effect of time was found for increasing testosterone concentrations from BA to POST exercise (p = 0.014; ES = 0.25). A significantly lower cortisol concentration at POST-1 compared to POST (p = 0.001; ES = 1.02) was noted in the BP condition. Furthermore, a significantly lower cortisol concentration was found at POST-1 in the BP compared to the LP condition (p = 0.022; ES = 1.3). A significant increase in CK activity was reported from BA to POST (p = 0.024; ES = 0.69) and POST-1 (p = 0.045; ES = 0.55) during the LP condition, and from BA to POST-1 (p = 0.014; ES = 0.96) during the BP condition. No significant differences were found in the CRP (p = 0.659) and TNF-α concentrations (p = 0.487). These results suggest that the amount of muscle mass engaged during the resistance exercise may influence the changes in IL-6 and cortisol concentrations. This study aimed to evaluate the possibility of using milk thistle endosperm (MTE) extract with a protein content of >2 g/100 mL to obtain a fermented product, an alternative to milk beverages. Directed lactic fermentation with Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus was carried out. The course of the process was monitored. The changes in pH, the saturation of the medium with dissolved oxygen, and temperature were measured. The values of the main nutritional parameters, silymarin content, amino acid profile/content, and the PDCAAS value (Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score) were determined in the extract before and after fermentation. The lactic acid fermentation of the MTE extract took place in four phases, with the activity of L. rhamnosus being the most intense between 4 and 8 h into the process. As a result of fermentation, there were changes in the total amino acid content in the tested medium, suggesting the catabolism of aspartic acid, arginine, proline, and isoleucine via LAB took place. Particularly significant was the increase in the content of lysine and valine (4.95 and 4.68 g/100 g of total AA, respectively), which are the limiting amino acids in MTE. Although MTE contained approximately 1% silymarin, no presence of this flavonolignan complex was found in the extracts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of the research was to determine neuromuscular control for different external loads, from 75% to 100% 1 RM (One Rep Max), during the flat bench press (BP) exercise performed with free weights and pneumatic loading. Despite extensive research on the internal structure of the BP exercise, few studies have examined the differences between muscular activity during the flat bench press movement between Free Weights and Pneumatic Loading. For this purpose, 10 male, trained subjects performed the BP exercise under two conditions with three different external loads (70%, 85%, and 100% 1RM), alternately with free weights and pneumatic loading. Pneumatic loading was performed on the Keiser Power Rack, where the pneumatic load was transferred as the resistance of the cables attached to the ground. EMG activity was recorded during the lifts for the following muscles: PM (Pectoralis Major), AD (Anterior Deltoid), Tblat, and TBlong (Triceps Brachii). The EMG signals were sampled at a rate of 1000 Hz. Signals were band-pass filtered with a cutoff frequency of 8 Hz and 450 Hz, after which the root-mean-square (RMS) was calculated. After completion of all the tests in a single day, 2–3 s evaluations of Maximal Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC) of the prime movers in the bench press movement (AD, PM, and TBlong) were performed according to SENIAM procedures. The results of the present study indicate that pneumatic loading provides a significantly different muscle activation pattern compared to a standard bar during a heavy-loaded BP exercise. The purpose of the article/hypothesis: The purpose of the article is to determine whether, taking into account the current legal framework determining the state role in the economy, it is advisable to support large enterprises in relation to preventing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis will be conducted based on one of the types of guarantees - PLG FGP guarantee line. Methodology: In order to achieve the assumed goals, the analysis was based on non-reactive research, consisting in the assessment of available information. It included studies of normative acts, official statistical data and industry reports and analyses. Two basic research methods were used, namely legal dogmatic and comparative analyses. Results of the research: Based on the conducted research, it can be concluded that taking into account the characteristics of economic difficulties resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic (i.e. a decrease in demand for goods and services, reduced mobility of the population, limited supply caused by disruption of supply chains and absence of employees at the workplace), it is justified to support sector of large enterprises, because these problems concern both the SME sector and large enterprises to a similar extent. Introduction: Range of motion (ROM) of resistance exercise affects the muscle damage magnitude and the recovery-time course. Thus, the main aim of this study was to compare conventional and extended ROM in the bench press exercise on neuromuscular fatigue assessed by velocity changes during bench press throw, as well on the exercise-induced muscle damage evaluated by creatine kinase (CK) activity in the blood. Material and Methods: A total of fourteen healthy, welltrained males performed 5 sets of the bench press exercise at 70% of one repetition maximum with either standard (STD) and cambered (CMB) barbell until reaching volitional failure. CK and barbell velocity changes were assessed at the baseline and 1h, 24h, 48h post exercise protocol. Results: The results showed that higher peak barbell velocity was reached during the bench press throw after the CMB when compared to the STD condition. Moreover, CK activity showed an overall significant growing trend from baseline to time points following exercise during the STD, whereas the CMB post-48h CK was higher in comparison to pre and post, but not than post-24h. Conclusion: the bench press exercise performed with the use of CMB barbell might not require a specific training approach, and even higher training frequency might be applied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose - The paper aims to assess the credit financing of microenterprises and farmers by commercial and cooperative banks in pre-COVID-19 and COVID-19 subperiods. Research method - In the study, we apply the Kruskal-Wallis test and Wilcoxon ranksum pairwise comparison test with the adjustment based on the Benjamini and Hochberg method to check whether there are significant differences in median values of banking loan categories for microenterprises and farmers among commercial and cooperative banks in the pre-COVID-19 and COVID-19 periods. Results - We observe that microenterprises mostly use commercial banks, while farmers depend majorly on cooperative banks. Additionally, farmers use investment loans more often than microenterprises. We show a significant decline in loan sales and enquiries among microenterprises and farmers during COVID-19. Moreover, we observe the median values of all analysed categories show significant differences between commercial and cooperative banks. It concerns both investment and working capital loans. Originality / value / implications / recommendations - Our contribution is that we analyse this issue from the perspective of leading suppliers offering banking loans, i.e., commercial and cooperative banks. We detect whether analysed banking loan categories differ significantly in the group of microenterprises and farmers across commercial and cooperative banks in Poland in the above-mentioned periods. To our knowledge, there are no similar studies. The results of our study might be helpful for banking institutions and policymakers in the context of a potential future pandemic or crisis situation. Plyometric training is extensively used by coaches to enhance neuromuscular performance in a wide variety of sports. Due to the high demands of sprint speed and power output in elite sprinters and jumpers, sprint and jump coaches are likely to have great knowledge on this topic. Undoubtedly, this expertise is even more pronounced for Olympic coaches, who work with some of the fastest and most powerful athletes in the world, and who are required to continually maintain these athletes at optimal performance levels. Describing and discussing the practices commonly adopted by these coaches in detail and extrapolating this experience to other sport coaching contexts and disciplines may be extremely relevant. The current article presents, explores, and illustrates the plyometric training practices of Brazilian Olympic sprint and jump coaches, with a special focus on training programming and exercise selection. The aim of the study is to establish and analyze the relationship between expenditure on corporate philanthropy and financial performance of cooperative banks in Poland. The study covered 70 cooperative banks, where the level of expenditure on social activities was above the average in the sector. The research was carried out using the Generalized Method of Moments for the years 2013-2020. Studies have shown positive importance of corporate philanthropy in shaping financial efficiency. The research also indicated a significant shift in the time between spending on social activities and the financial results obtained. The obtained results indicate an area that has not been thoroughly analyzed: the impact of spending on social activities in the context of shaping the financial efficiency considering time shifts. This knowledge may result in more intentional creation of the efficiency policy by management, considering corporate philanthropy, Corporate Social Responsibility, or the introduction of appropriate regulatory changes for the assessment of financial institutions by responsible entities.
