Abstract Background Pre-operative coronary angiography and concomitant, planned coronary artery bypass are infrequently performed with type A aortic dissection repair. We present a case in which pre-operative coronary computed tomography angiography was appropriate, and subsequent dissection repair and concomitant coronary artery bypass were successfully performed. Case Presentation The patient is a 58-year-old male with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, renal insufficiency, hypertension, obesity, and smoking history, who presented with a three-to-four-day history of persistent back pain, worsening exertional dyspnea, and orthopnea, as well as a two-to-three month history of dyspnea, lower extremity edema, and intermittent angina. He was diagnosed with an acute type A aortic dissection and anti-impulse control was initiated. However, repair was delayed in order to allow apixaban to metabolize and decrease the risk of bleeding, as the patient was approximately six days post-dissection, without malperfusion, with a well-controlled blood pressure on anti-impulse therapy, and had received five days of anticoagulation. During this time, coronary computed tomography angiography was performed to assess the need for concomitant revascularization and showed coronary artery disease. Ascending aorta hemiarch replacement with aortic valve resuspension, two-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting, and left atrial appendage clipping were performed successfully. Conclusions Pre-operative imaging can be considered in a select group of acute type A aortic dissections that present without malperfusion, and with well-controlled blood pressure on anti-impulse/negative inotropic therapy.

Abstract Environmental issues are the most discussed in today's industrialized world, and this has always been associated with the emission of greenhouse gases. CO2 emissions, especially from power plants, are considered the major greenhouse gas source. Capturing CO2 from large emission sources is necessary to address the worst impacts of climate change, including more frequent and severe droughts, heat waves, and intermittent rainfall. Conventional post‐combustion CO2 capture has always been questioned because of its high impact on energy costs. Rotating packed bed technology has shown the potential to reduce the cost of CO2 capture. This paper presents an experimental study on an in‐house designed rotating packed bed absorber for the capture of CO2 from a flue gas stream. Effects of process parameters such as rotating speed, liquid‐to‐gas ratio, and monoethanolamine (MEA) concentration on CO2 capture efficiency and overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient were studied. The study showed that as rotor speed increased, the CO2 capture efficiency increased, this can be attributed to higher rotor speed, resulting in more droplet flow, indicating an increase in the area of contact between the flue gas and the MEA solvent. Also, as the concentration of MEA increased CO2 capture efficiency increased, since an increase in concentration results in an increase in the rate of reaction. Finally, the study showed that a rotating packed bed absorber is an efficient unit for CO2 capture since it enhances mass transfer performance.

Abstract Organelles form membrane contact sites between each other, allowing for the transfer of molecules and signals. Mitochondria-endoplasmic reticulum (ER) contact sites (MERCS) are cellular subdomains characterized by close apposition of mitochondria and ER membranes. They have been implicated in many diseases, including neurodegenerative, metabolic, and cardiac diseases. Although MERCS have been extensively studied, much remains to be explored. To uncover novel regulators of MERCS, we conducted a genome-wide, flow cytometry-based screen using an engineered MERCS reporter cell line. We found 410 genes whose downregulation promotes MERCS and 230 genes whose downregulation decreases MERCS. From these, 29 genes were selected from each population for arrayed screening and 25 were validated from the high population and 13 from the low population. GET4 and BAG6 were highlighted as the top 2 genes that upon suppression increased MERCS from both the pooled and arrayed screens, and these were subjected to further investigation. Multiple microscopy analyses confirmed that loss of GET4 or BAG6 increased MERCS. GET4 and BAG6 were also observed to interact with the known MERCS proteins, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3R) and glucose-regulated protein 75 (GRP75). In addition, we found that loss of GET4 increased mitochondrial calcium uptake upon ER-Ca2+ release and mitochondrial respiration. Finally, we show that loss of GET4 rescues motor ability, improves lifespan and prevents neurodegeneration in a Drosophila model of Alzheimer’s disease (Aβ42Arc). Together, these results suggest that GET4 is involved in decreasing MERCS and that its loss is neuroprotective.

Financial performance in the education sector within the scope of higher education is a description of the extent of success or failure of an organization in carrying out its main duties and functions in order to realize its goals, objectives, mission and vision. Performance measurement is a performance assessment, both financial and non-financial performance measurement, which is a very important component in the management control system. This research made State University of Sriwijaya in South Sumatra Province the object of research where by using observation methods and distributing questionnaires, as many as 195 people had the status of employees involved in financial management (Head of Department, Head of Study Program, Laboratory, Deanery and Financial Administration Faculty). The analytical tool for answering the relationship between participation and budget adequacy on managerial performance uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Smart-PLS. From the results obtained, there are still errors in filling out the questionnaire with the mean value being greater than the std. deviation and the frequency limit for each answer being identified; there are still criteria for quite agreeing or not being planned and still need attention.

The limitation of laboratory facilities in conducting practical chemistry learning activities has become one of the triggers for less optimal learning processes. Implementation of virtual laboratory simulation becomes a solution to overcome the limited equipment of practicum activities. It is possible to overcome some of the challenges that are currently being experienced in chemistry education by making effective use of virtual laboratories. The primary aim of this research is to investigate the impact of virtual laboratories and self-efficacy on the improvement of problem-solving skills among engineering students in the context of applied chemistry education. The research employs a quasi-experimental design to examine the impact of independent variables on dependent variables. Participants in this study are students enrolled in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering and Utility Engineering Technology programs within the Mechanical Engineering Department of Bali State Polytechnic. The study utilized data collection instruments consisting of tests assessing problem-solving skills and questionnaires measuring self-efficacy. The current study employs analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) as a statistical method to examine the hypothesis.The hypothesis testing results show that using virtual laboratories has a better effect than problem-solving skill demonstrations when it comes to electroplating learning activities. The observed correlation between self-efficacy and improved problem-solving skills does not seem to result in a significant impact.

Fasting, a practice with historical roots in various cultures, has recently garnered significant interest in the field of medicine. In this article, we delve into the mechanisms underlying fasting-induced autophagy and its therapeutic applications for spike protein associated pathology. We explore the therapeutic potential of fasting on spike protein-related pathology and the role of interventions to upregulate autophagy, including compounds like spermidine, resveratrol, rapamycin, and metformin. In conclusion, fasting, coupled with an understanding of its nuances, holds promise as a therapeutic intervention for SARS-CoV-2 spike protein related diseases; with broad implications for human health. This review presents the therapeutic possibility of using autophagy to treat spike protein related diseases, and details the interventions to deploy this therapeutic modality.

Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 between 1st October 2020 and 30th June 2021 were randomly selected from a national COVID-19 registry. COVID-19 cases were diagnosed using molecular testing method which measured the viral E gene. The Anosmia Reporting Tool, and a brief version of the questionnaire on olfactory disorders were used to measure the outcomes via telephone interviews. Data were analysed using SPSS 27 statistics software.Results: A total of 405 COVID-19 adults were included in this study, 220 (54.3%) were males and 185 (45.8%) were females. The mean±SD age of participants was 38.2 ± 11.3 years. Alterations in the sense of smell and taste were reported by 206 (50.9%), and 195 (48.1%) of the patients, respectively. Sex and nationality of participants were significantly associated with anosmia and dysgeusia (p < 0.001) and (p-value=0.001) respectively. Among patients who experienced anosmia and dysgeusia, alterations in eating habits (64.2%), impact on mental wellbeing (38.9%), concerns that the alterations were permanent (35.4%), and physical implications and difficulty performing activities of daily living (34%) were reported.Conclusion: Anosmia and dysgeusia are prevalent symptoms of COVID-19 disease, especially among females. Although transient, anosmia and dysgeusia had considerable impact on patient’s life. Neuropsychological implications of COVID-19 in acute infection phase and prognosis of anosmia and dysgeusia in COVID-19 are areas for further exploration.Keywords: anosmia, taste, smell, COVID-19, dysgeusia, quality of life

The purpose on this research is to analyze and evaluate the survival and growth of the snakehead larvae (Channa striata) with different natural feeds. This study used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications. Snakehead larvae were kept in an aquarium containing 15 L of water for 30 days with a density of 2 fish/L. Feeding composition in treatment A (75% Artemia: 25% Rotifer), treatment B (50% Artemia: 50% Rotifer), treatment C (25% Artemia: 75% Rotifer).The result showed that the provision of natural feed with different compositions had no significant effect on the survival of snakehead larvae, and had a significant effect on the growth of the length and absolute body weight of the fish where optimal results were found in treatment A using a natural feed composition of 75% Artemia and 25% Rotifer.

One mechanism for the occurrence of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT)-mediated metastases is by increasing N-cadherin expression. The purpose of this research is to determine investigating N-cadherin expression against metastatic LN in NPC cases.Methods: Samples were taken by unproportionate stratified random sampling. N-cadherin expression was examined using immunohistochemistry methods. N-cadherin expression was assessed visually by binocular light microscopy. We analyzed these data using Mann–Whitney U-test to examine N-cadherin expression and lymph node metastases.Results: A strong expression was found in N3 group by 63.6%; 27.3% in the N2 group and 9.1% in the N1 group. In patients with NPC N0 or without lymph node metastases, N-cadherin expression is 0%. The expression of N-cadherin is indeed an indicator of the occurrence of lymph node metastases in NPC with a statistically significant analysis of p = 0.026 (p < 0.05).Conclusion: There were correlations between N-cadherin expression and lymph node metastasis on NPC patients.Keywords: N-cadherin, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, cancer, immunohistochemistry

Clove farmers who are currently still using wood as a footrest mounted on bamboo, more specifically, this invention relates to the design of a new footing design for bamboo stairs using metal clamps as a substitute for wooden steps which are often at risk of breaking. To overcome existing problems, craftsmen need to be given a bamboo ladder (Banggul) for picking clove flowers that is ergonomic and safe using strong and light metal clamps as an ergonomic footrest that can be installed and removed and the distance of the bamboo steps can be adjusted according to anthropometry. the farmer’s knees are high so that when he climbs the bamboo steps his working attitude is natural. The results showed that the workload of farmers reached 127,54 ± 4,90 dpm (heavy workload), while the resting pulse 75,61 ± 0,506 dpm or experiencing an increase 51,935± 2,19 dpm. Musculoskeletal complaints before work 30,32 ± 1,52 and after-work complaints score 51,20 ± 5,021. Fatigue scores after work increased from before work 32,10 ± 3,354 while the fatigue score after work increased to 55,11 ± 4,321.

Most mono-metallic catalysts applied in non-oxidative conversion of methane exhibit low catalyst activity and limited selectivity towards useful petrochemicals. In this study, a series of thermally stable and tunable 5.4 wt% metal/support Fe-W-Mo/HZSM-5 catalyst systems were synthesized, characterized, and applied in non-oxidative conversion of methane in a custom-made stainless-steel reactor at various process conditions. Analysis of products from the reactor was done using Shimadzu 2014 gas chromatograph. Varying the amount of Fe, W, and Mo on HZSM-5 greatly influenced catalyst activity in terms of methane conversion and product distribution. When the quantities of Fe and W were increased to 2.25 wt% each and the quantity of molybdenum reduced to 0.9 wt% in the overall 5.4 wt% metal/ HZSM-5 catalyst, the resultant catalyst system became most active in methane conversion (17.4%) at 800 °C. Reducing the quantity of Fe and W each to 1.35 wt% and increasing Mo to 2.7 wt% in the overall 5.4 wt% catalyst, the resultant catalyst system became less selective towards C2 hydrocarbons and coke, but highly selective towards xylene and benzene. Therefore, this study demonstrates that varying metal loading presents an opportunity to tune the 5.4 wt% binary Fe, W, and Mo on HZSM-5 to achieve desired methane conversion and product distribution.

This finding confirms that the spiritual beliefs of Indonesian Muslims can play a significant role in improving mental health during pandemic.
