Abstract. Background:. Primary malignant bone tumors are uncommon, and their epidemiological features are rarely reported. We aimed to study the incidence and death characteristics of bone tumors from 2000 to 2015. Methods:. Population-based cancer registries submitted registry data to National Central Cancer Registry of China (NCCRC). The data collected from 501 local cancer registries in China were assessed using NCCRC screening methods and criteria. Incidence and mortality rates of primary bone tumor were stratified by age group, gender, and area. Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates were adjusted using the Chinese standard population in 2000 and Segi's world population. The annual percentage change (APC) in rate was calculated using the Joinpoint Regression Program. Results:. Data from 368 registries met quality control criteria, of which 134 and 234 were from urban and rural areas, respectively. The data covered 309,553,499 persons. The crude incidence, age-standardized incidence, and crude mortality rates were 1.77, 1.35, and 1.31 per 100,000, respectively. Incidence and mortality rates were higher in males than those in females; they showed downward trends, with declines of 2.2% and 4.8% per year, respectively, and the rates in urban areas were lower than those in rural areas. Significant declining trends were observed in urban areas. Stable trends were seen in rural areas during 2000 to 2007, followed by downward trends. Age-specific incidence and mortality rates showed stable trends in the age group of 0 to 19 years, and downward trends in the age group elder than 19 years. Conclusions:. The incidence and mortality rates of primary malignant bone tumors in rural areas were higher compared to those in urban areas. Targeted prevention measures are required to monitor and control bone tumor incidence and improve the quality of life of affected patients. This research can provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of bone tumors, as well as basic information for follow-up research.

Established in 2017, the Screening Cohort for Asian Nomadic descendants in China (Scan-China) has benefited over 180,000 members of a multi-ethnic population, particularly individuals of Mongolian descent compared with the general population (Han ethnicity), in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. This cohort study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cancer screening and serve as a real-world data platform for cancer studies. The 6 most prevalent cancers in China are considered—namely, breast, lung, colorectal, gastric, liver and esophageal cancer. After baseline cancer risk assessments and screening tests, both active and passive follow-up (based on the healthcare insurance database, cancer registry, the front page of hospital medical records, and death certificates) will be conducted to trace participants’ onset and progression of cancers and other prevalent chronic diseases. Scan-China has preliminarily found a disproportionately lower screening participation rate and higher incidence/mortality rates of esophageal and breast cancer among the Mongolian population than among their Han counterparts. Further research will explore the cancer burden, natural history, treatment patterns, and risk factors of the target cancers.

Abstract Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of premature mortality and burden of diseases in the world. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located in northern China, constitute 17.66% individuals with Mongolian, which have unique diet and lifestyles. Therefore, the Inner Mongolian Healthy Aging Study (IMAGINS) was designed to explore risk factors for chronic diseases and evaluate the effectiveness of health management on CVDs in population at high-risk. Methods The IMAGINS is an ongoing and prospective cohort study of men and women aged ≥35 years from Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, northern China. This study performed in investigating risk factors for CVDs, screening and providing health management strategy for high-risk population of CVDs. The IMAGINS began in September 2015 and scheduled to recruiting and follow-up outcome until 2030. For general population, a long-term follow-up will be conducted every 5 years to collect the information above and data on clinical outcomes. For high-risk population, comprehensive health managements were performed and scheduled to follow-up annually. All IMAGINS participants are followed for incident CVDs and death. Discussion The IMAGINS is designed to increase understanding how cardiovascular-related risk factors contribute to the development of CVDs and the positive effect of health management strategy for high-risk CVD participants. Key features of this study include (i) a carefully characterized cohort between high risk of CVDs and non-high risk population; (ii) detailed measurement of CVDs risk factors and health management strategies for high risk population; (iii) long-term follow-up of CVDs and death. The IMAGINS represents a good research opportunity to investigate clinical and genetic factors in high-risk population, might providing basis for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

Objectives This study aims to estimate the prevalence, awareness, treatment and control rates of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and pre-diabetes as well as to identify its associated factors among Mongolians living in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.Design Cross-sectional study.Setting and participants This sample included 11 361 Mongolian participants from the Inner Mongolian Healthy Aging Intervention Study, a population-based screening project consisting of 141 255 adults aged above 35 years in Inner Mongolia from 2015 to 31 December 2020.Outcome measures The prevalence and 95% CIs of T2D and pre-diabetes were calculated. Factors associated with the prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of T2D were explored by a binomial logistic regression.Results A total of 17.2% (95% CI 16.5% to 17.9%) of the sample had T2D, of whom 34.0% (95% CI 31.9% to 36.1%) were aware of their diagnosis, 24.7% (95% CI 22.8% to 26.6%) were taking prescribed antidiabetic medications, 6.7% (95% CI 5.6% to 7.8%) had achieved control and 27.5% (95 % CI 26.7% to 28.3%) had pre-diabetes. Early identification of individuals with high risk is crucial to preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD). We aimed to determine the prevalence of high CVD risk in Inner Mongolia and to analyze the treatment of major risk factors among individuals with high CVD risk. We selected 70,380 participants aged 35–75 years in Inner Mongolia between 2015 and 2017 using multistage stratified sampling. All participants completed a questionnaire and their blood pressure, blood glucose and lipid levels, height, weight and waist circumference were measured. Participants without a history of CVD were defined as high CVD risk if the predicted 10-year risk for CVD exceeded 10%. We assessed rates of high CVD risk and the prevalence and treatment of major risk factors among individuals with high CVD risk. After excluding participants with previous CVD, 68,083 participants remained. The overall prevalence of high CVD risk was 24.96%. The age- and sex-standardized rate of high CVD risk was 22.92%. Among high-risk participants, the prevalence of risk factors was hypertension (91.9%), dyslipidemia (54.1%), obesity (34.6%), diabetes (27.6%), and smoking (24.5%); clustering of these risk factors was common. The percentage of high-risk individuals taking antihypertensive drugs was 45.94% in those with hypertension; 27.99% of those with diabetes took hypoglycemic drugs and only 5.01% of those with dyslipidemia took lipid-lowering drugs. Control rates of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia were 1.20%, 4.43%, and 2.78%, respectively. Therefore, the prevalence of high CVD risk was elevated in Inner Mongolia, and treatment and control rates were low.

BackgroundThere has been a paucity of evidence examining whether preventable behavioral risk factors led to ethnic differences of gastric precancerous lesions (GPL). We aimed to investigate the ethnic disparity of associations between GPL and lifestyle factors in Mongolian and Han Chinese populations.MethodsThe study included participants aged 36-75 years enrolled in the Cancer Screening Program during 2016-2017 in Hohhot and Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia. GPL was defined as the gross cascading events (i.e., gastric ulcer, atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia) that preceded gastric cancer.ResultsA total of 61638 participants were included, of whom 6863(11·1%) were Mongolians. Alcohol consumption was positively associated with GPL risk in both ethnic groups, but the magnitude was greater in Mongolians (odds ratio (OR) 6·91, 95%CI 5·82-8·28) than in Han Chinese (OR 5·64, 95%CI 5·27-6·04), corresponding to a higher population attributable fraction (PAF) for Mongolians (53·18% vs 43·71%). Besides, the strength of the positive association between physical inactivity and GPL risk was greater among Mongolians (OR 2·02, 95%CI 1·70-2·41; OR 1·09, 95%CI 1·02-1·17 among Han Chinese) with a higher PAF. Abstract Background Esophageal cancer is among the leading cancer types in Inner Mongolia. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and mortality rates of esophageal cancer in 2015 and the trends in these rates in the 2010–2015 period in this region. Methods National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCR) screening methods and criteria were used to extract data from 10 cancer registries stratified by area (urban/rural), sex, and age group. The Chinese standard population in 2000 and Segi's world population were used to calculate age‐standardized rates. The annual percentage change (APC) in these rates was calculated using the Joinpoint Regression Program. Results In 2015, Inner Mongolia had 4324 new cases (4027 male vs. 297 female patients) and 3559 deaths (3300 male vs. 259 female patients) from esophageal cancer. The crude incidence, age‐standardized incidence by Chinese population, age‐standardized incidence by world population, and cumulative incidence were 13.45/100 000, 9.92/100 000, 10.18/100 000, and 1.30%, respectively. The corresponding figures for mortality were 11.32/100 000, 8.35/100 000, 8.53/100 000, and 1.04%. The incidence and mortality increased with age between 40 and 80 years. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a life-threatening chronic illness. CVD risk may be influenced by environment and lifestyle. People in northern China usually consume high-fat, high-salt diets and alcohol and live in a cold climate over long periods. However, there are limited studies on CVD risk among people in northern China. In the present study, we sought to estimate the CVD risk profile among residents of northern China. Using the Programme of Screening and Intervention Subjects with High Risk Cardiovascular Diseases, we collected data from residents in six cities from September 2015 to June 2017. In total, 56,716 participants aged 40 years and above were finally included in the CVD risk assessment. To assess the 10-year risk of CVD among participants, we used World Health Organisation/International Society of Hypertension risk prediction charts. Among the study participants, 22.7% had a high 10-year risk of CVD. We identified differences in the 10-year CVD risk according to sex, socioeconomic status, and marital status. We conclude that individuals with high socioeconomic status should be encouraged to change their lifestyle habits, and greater medical resources should be invested for individuals residing in rural areas and those with low education levels.

Abstract Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevalence has increased continuously over the last 30 years in China. Dyslipidemia is an important modifiable risk factor in CVD. We aimed to collect current data on the prevalence of dyslipidemia in northern China and explore potential influencing factors. Methods In this cross-sectional study, we selected a representative sample of 65,128 participants aged ≥35 years in Inner Mongolia during 2015–2017. All participants completed a questionnaire and were examined for risk factors. Dyslipidemia was defined according to 2016 Chinese guidelines for adults. The associated factors for dyslipidemia were estimated by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results The age-standardized prevalence of dyslipidemia was 31.2% overall, with 4.3, 2.4, 14.7, and 17.4% for high total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG), and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), respectively. PM _2.5 components may promote the development of breast cancer and increase the risk of mortality. This study aims to investigate the associations between long-term exposure to PM _2.5 components and multiple causes of mortality among women with breast cancer living in Inner Mongolia, China. We constructed an Inner Mongolia cohort of 33 952 breast cancer patients from 2012 to 2021 using data from the Inner Mongolia Regional Health Information Platform. We assessed each patient’s exposure to PM _2.5 components using the Tracking Air Pollution in China database. Cox regression models were used to estimate adjusted hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). A total of 3295 deaths were identified. For each interquartile increase in concentration in the 5 years before diagnosis, the all-cause mortality increased significantly by 5% (HR: 1.05, 95%CI: 1.00–1.10) for black carbon and by 4% (HR: 1.04, 95%CI: 1.00–1.09) for sulfate (SO _4 ^2− ), and decreased by 7% (HR: 0.93, 95%CI: 0.88–0.98) for nitrate (NO _3 ^− ). An association between organic matter and an increased all-cause mortality was also observed. Similar results were found for associations with risk of death from breast cancer-specific causes, cardio-cerebrovascular disease (CCVD) causes, and respiratory causes. Stronger associations were observed in older age groups and in Han Chinese patients. Our results showed that long-term exposure to black carbon, organic matter, and SO _4 ^2− were more responsible for the increased risk of death from all causes, breast cancer-specific causes, CCVD causes, and respiratory causes. This suggests that more effective measures to control coal combustion emissions in Inner Mongolia are urgently needed. The elderly and Han Chinese populations may be at high risk.

Stomatal density is an important factor that determines the efficiency of plant gas exchange and water transpiration. Through forward genetics, we screened a mutant rice stomata developmental defect 1 (rsd1-1) with decreased stomatal density and clustered stomata in rice (Oryza sativa). After the first asymmetric division, some of the larger sister cells undergo an extra asymmetric division to produce a small cell neighboring guard mother cell. Some of these small cells develop into stomata, which leads to stomatal clustering, and the rest arrested or developed into pavement cell. After map-based cloning, we found the protein encoded by this gene containing DUF630 and DUF632 domains. Evolutionary analysis showed that the DUF630/632 gene family differentiated earlier in land plants. It was found that the deletion of RSD1 would lead to the disorder of gene expression regarding stomatal development, especially the expression of stomatal density and distribution 1 (OsSDD1). Through the construction of OsSDD1 deletion mutants by CRISPR-Cas9, we found that, similar to rsd1 mutants, the ossdd1 mutants have clustered stomata and extra small cells adjacent to the stomata. OsSDD1 and RSD1 are both required for inhibiting ectopic asymmetric cell divisions (ACDs) and clustered stomata. By dehydration stress assay, the decreased stomatal density of rsd1 mutants enhanced their dehydration avoidance. This study characterized the functions of RSD1 and OsSDD1 in rice stomatal development. Our findings will be helpful in developing drought-resistant crops through controlling the stomatal density.

Abstract Depression is a common psychiatric disorder among patients undergoing maintenance haemodialysis (MHD). Depression may reportedly contribute to poor prognosis in several ways, including its effects on platelet function. We hypothesised that depression contributes to the occurrence of cardiocerebral vascular events (CCVE) and dysfunction of arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) in patients undergoing MHD through its effects on platelets. In this prospective cohort study, patients undergoing MHD were recruited and divided into depression and non-depression groups according to their Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) scores. The 286 enrolled patients had 103 occurrences of depressive symptoms (prevalence = 36.01%). Compared with the non-depression group, depression group had a significantly higher cumulative prevalence of CCVE and DAVF during follow-up. Cox regression analysis indicated that higher HAMD scores and lower plasma platelet distribution width (PDW) were common risk factors for CCVE and DAVF. Furthermore, HAMD scores were significantly negatively correlated with plasma PDW and was the main variable affecting changes in PDW, as indicated by multiple linear regression analysis. Depression may increase the risk of CCVE and DAVF in patients undergoing MHD by activating platelets. Plasma PDW may be a convenient indicator of platelet activation status and may predict the risk of CCVE and DAVF.

Human behaviors have non-negligible impacts on spread of contagious disease. For instance, large-scale gathering and high mobility of population could lead to accelerated disease transmission, while public behavioral changes in response to pandemics may effectively reduce contacts and suppress the peak of the outbreak. In order to understand how spatial characteristics like population mobility and clustering interplay with epidemic outbreaks, we formulate a stochastic-statistical environment-epidemic dynamic system (SEEDS) via an agent-based biased random walk model on a two-dimensional lattice. The "popularity" and "awareness" variables are taken into consideration to capture human natural and preventive behavioral factors, which are assumed to guide and bias agent movement in a combined way. It is found that the presence of the spatial heterogeneity, like social influence locality and spatial clustering induced by self-aggregation, potentially suppresses the contacts between agents and consequently flats the epidemic curve. Surprisedly, disease responses might not necessarily reduce the susceptibility of informed individuals and even aggravate disease outbreak if each individual responds independently upon their awareness. The disease control is achieved effectively only if there are coordinated public-health interventions and public compliance to these measures. Therefore, our model may be useful for quantitative evaluations of a variety of public-health policies.

Reactor thermal-hydraulic codes can be categorized into system codes, sub-channel codes and CFD (computational fluid dynamics) codes according to the spatial discretization and simplification methods. As a traditional reactor system safety analysis code, system code is able to analyze the overall performance of the reactor quickly, while it cannot capture the mixing effects between coolant channels in the core accurately. The sub-channel code is currently the most suitable code for core analysis, with higher fidelity than system code and less computation resources than CFD code. To perform analysis of coupling effects between thermal-hydraulics characteristics of the reactor system and those of core, the in-house system code ASRAC and the in-house sub-channel code CORTH are coupled based on a generic coupling architecture. This generic coupling architecture comprises the generic coupling interface concept ICoCo (Interface for Code Coupling) and the generic data exchange model MED (Model for Exchanging field Data). In order to evaluate the accuracy and capability of the coupling code, the LOFT experiment case is chosen and analyzed. According to the validation results, compared with ASRAC code standalone, the ARSAC-CORTH coupling code is able to better analyze the coupling effects of loop system and core, meanwhile capturing the coolant mixing between coolant channels.

Pump–turbine units with high heads are subjected to strong pressure pulsations from the unsteady transient flow in fluid channels, which can produce severe vibrations and high stresses on the pump–turbine structural components. Therefore, reducing transient flow-induced stresses on prototype reversible pump–turbine units is an important measure for ensuring their safe and efficient operation. A high-head prototype reversible pump–turbine with a rated head of 440 m was used to investigate the transient flow characteristics and the flow-induced-stresses in this study. First, the flow passages of the pump–turbine unit and the structure of the reversible pump–turbine runner were constructed with CAD tools. Next, CFD simulations at the full load were performed to investigate the pressure pulsation characteristics of the pump turbine in both the time domain and the frequency domain. After this, the pressure files calculated by the CFD were exported and applied to a finite element model of the pump–turbine runner to calculate the transient flow-induced dynamic stresses. The results show that the pressure pulsations in the flow passage are closely related to the rotational speed, the guide vane number, and the runner blade number of the pump–turbine unit. The maximum flow-induced stresses on the pump–turbine runner at the full load were below 2 MPa and lower than the allowable value, which reveals that the designs of the pump–turbine runner and the flow passage are acceptable. The conclusions can be used as a reference to evaluate the design of high-head pump–turbines units. The approaches used to carry out the transient flow-induced stress calculations can be applied not only to pump–turbines units but also to other types of fluid turbomachinery such as pumps, turbines, fans, compressors, turbochargers, etc.

Distribution of lightning plays a key role in lightning protection of transmission lines. The design of wind deviation under lightning overvoltage of the transmission tower is an empirical parameter in the transmission line design code. Meteorological data from Hong Kong are investigated to analyze the joint distribution of lightning and wind speed. It has been uncovered that daily cloud-to-ground (CG) flashes follow the Burr distribution, which is highly skewed toward a few days with notable lightning. The lightning and wind follow a Gumbel copula joint distribution. According to empirical and theoretical distribution, there are 239 days with more than 1,000 CG lightning flashes per day, and approximately 20% of these days have a maximum wind speed of approximately or over 15 m/s. In 5 days with the number of CG lightning flashes above 30,000, 3 days have a maximum wind speed of over 15 m/s and the other 2 days have a maximum wind speed of over 10 m/s, which suggests that the severe convection with a squall line contributes much to the likelihood of the days with high wind and lightning storms.

Background. This study utilized network pharmacology and bioinformatics analysis to identify the hub genes influenced by scopolamine in lung cancer. Methods. The effect of scopolamine on lung cancer was investigated by cell invasion assay and cell scratch assay. The analysis involved protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks topology analysis to identify these genes, and subsequent differential analysis and survival analysis were conducted using gene expression profile interaction analysis (GEPIA). Furthermore, the findings were supported by molecular docking experiments for verification. Results. Results from cell invasion and scratch assays suggest that scopolamine inhibits the migration of lung cancer cells. JAK2, JAK3, CCR5, and ACE were identified as the top four hub genes that have an impact on lung cancer. KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that the scopolamine response in lung cancer is significantly associated with ten pathways, including “neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction in cancer,” “PD-1 checkpoint pathway in cancer,” “chemokine signaling pathway,” “PD-L1 expression,” and others. Additionally, the expression levels of JAK2, JAK3, CCR5, and ACE were found to be correlated with survival in patients with lung cancer. Furthermore, molecular docking experiments demonstrated that scopolamine binds and forms stable complexes with the protein products of all four aforementioned genes. The main targets of scopolamine in the treatment of lung cancer are JAK2, JAK3, CCR5, and ACE. Conclusion. Scopolamine has a significant effect on various cellular functions in lung cancer cells, potentially reducing the likelihood of metastasis. Based on these findings, it is recommended to consider administering scopolamine as part of the preoperative phase for patients with lung cancer.

AbstractObjectives Recent evidence suggested that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) play critical roles in the pathogenesis of vascular calcification (VC). In this study, we tried to explore the expression and role of a lncRNA, i.e., metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), and a miRNA, i.e., miR-30c, in VC.Methods In vitro VC model was induced in human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) after 10 days culture in calcifying medium containing 2 mM Na2HPO4. Alizarin red S staining, calcium assay and western blot analysis of runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) and alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) were performed to evaluate VC. Knockdown of MALAT1 and up-regulation of MALAT1, miR-30c and Runx2 was performed to determine the impact of these molecules on VSMCs calcification. Dual-luciferase report assay was performed to confirm the relationship between MALAT1 and miR-30c or miR-30c and Runx2. In addition, quantitative reverse transcription PCR and western blot were used to determine gene and protein expression.Results MALAT1 was increased, while miR-30c was decreased in calcified VSMCs. Knockdown of MALAT1 suppressed VSMCs calcification; on the contrary, up-regulation of MALAT1 promoted VSMCs calcification. The effect of MALAT1 over-expression on VSMCs calcification was reversed by upregulation of miR-30c, which was reversed again by upregulation of Runx2. Dual-luciferase report assay confirmed that there is a direct interaction between MALAT1 and miR-30c, and Runx2 is a direct target of miR-30c.Conclusion MALAT1 over-expression promoted VSMCs calcification, which was at least partially through regulating the miR-30c/Runx2 axis.

BackgroundSleeve gastrectomy (SG) results in bone mineral density (BMD) loss and varying body composition parameters. However, the effects of body compositions on bone health are controversial. In order to accurately demonstrate their relationship and provide new insights into the causes of BMD loss after sleeve gastrectomy, this study is aimed to investigate the role of changes in body composition in BMD loss 12 months after SG.Methods41 Chinese individuals with obesity (25 women and 16 men) who underwent SG were prospectively examined for at least 12 months. Measurements of anthropometrics, body composition, BMD and blood samples were collected.ResultsFor 12 months, the femoral neck (FN) BMD and total hip (TH) BMD decreased significantly compared with baseline in both sexes but not lumbar spine (LS) BMD. Greater TH BMD loss was observed in men than in women. For the first 6 months post-SG, the FN BMD loss was positively associated with the estimated fat free mass index (eFFMI) reduction in women (adjusted β = 0.77, P = 0.004) and positively associated with reduction of subcutaneous fat area (SFA) in men (r = 0.931, P = 0.007). For 12 months post-SG, the FN BMD loss was negatively associated with visceral fat area (VFA) reduction in women (adjusted β = -0.58, P = 0.027) and men (adjusted β = -0.68, P = 0.032). TH BMD loss was positively associated with waist circumference reduction in women (r = 0.448, P = 0.028).ConclusionFN and TH BMD decrease after SG in both women and men. The changes in body compositions are associated with BMD loss at different time points and bone sites. Our data emphasize the limitation of simply taking the total weight loss (% TWL) as an influencing factor of bone mineral density and the necessity of delineating body composition in relevant studies.

A method for the simultaneous determination of 21 mycotoxins in milk and dairy products using ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole/orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry technology was established. After the milk and dairy products were extracted with acidified acetonitrile, they were purified by a Captiva-EMR Lipid purification column and chromatographically separated by a C18 column. The mass spectrometry adopt full scan data-dependent MS/MS acquisition mode (Full MS/ddMS2) detected in positive and negative ion modes, and quantified by external standard method. The 21 mycotoxins all had a good linear relationship within a certain concentration range, the correlation coefficients (r) were greater than 0.99, the limits of quantification were 1.0~93.8 μg/kg, and the average recoveries of all mycotoxins were 60.3%~107.0% at three different levels, and the relative standard deviations (RSD) ranged between 0.4%~14.4%. This method was used to detect commercially available powdered and liquid milk and dairy products. Aflatoxin B2 was detected in a fruit-added yogurt sample. The method was fast, accurate, suitable for the rapid determination of multiple mycotoxins in milk and dairy products, which could be used for efficient screening of mycotoxins risks.

Purpose - This paper studies the lateral stability regulation of intelligent electric vehicle (EV) based on model predictive control (MPC) algorithm. Design/methodology/approach - Firstly, the bicycle model is adopted in the system modelling process. To improve the accuracy, the lateral stiffness of front and rear tire is estimated using the real-time yaw rate acceleration and lateral acceleration of the vehicle based on the vehicle dynamics. Then the constraint of input and output in the model predictive controller is designed. Soft constraints on the lateral speed of the vehicle are designed to guarantee the solved persistent feasibility and enforce the vehicle’s sideslip angle within a safety range. Findings - The simulation results show that the proposed lateral stability controller based on the MPC algorithm can improve the handling and stability performance of the vehicle under complex working conditions. Originality/value - The MPC schema and the objective function are established. The integrated active front steering/direct yaw moments control strategy is simultaneously adopted in the model. The vehicle’s sideslip angle is chosen as the constraint and is controlled in stable range. The online estimation of tire stiffness is performed. The vehicle’s lateral acceleration and the yaw rate acceleration are modelled into the two-degree-of-freedom equation to solve the tire cornering stiffness in real time. This can ensure the accuracy of model.

Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium) is a clinical multidrug-resistant pathogen causing life-threatening infection, which makes it important to discover antibacterial agents with novel scaffolds and unique mechanism. In this study, the diarylurea scaffold was found to have potent antibacterial effect on E. faecium. Diarylurea ZJ-2 with benign drug-like property exhibited potent antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity through inhibiting the genes expression of NlpC/p60 hydrolase-secreted antigen A (sagA) and autolysins (atlA), down-regulating the expression of biofilm adherence related genes aggregation substance (agg), enterococcal surface protein (esp) against E. faecium. Moreover, ZJ-2 can be docked into SagA to inhibit daughter cell separation. In a mouse model of abdominal infection, ZJ-2 decreased the bacterial load and the level of IL-6 and TNF-α in a time-dependent manner. Overall, these findings indicated that diarylurea ZJ-2 has the potential to be developed as a therapeutic agent to treat drug-resistant enterococci and biofilm-related infections.

Abstract Traditional methods for the determination of starch aging indicators often have a series of shortcomings such as time‐consuming, high cost, large human error, damage to samples, environmental pollution, and high requirements for inspectors. Therefore, it is meaningful to find or establish a dynamic fingerprint identification pattern that can detect the aging degree of starch during the process of processing or storage quickly and accurately. It not only provides guidance for starch food processing but also saves a lot of human, material resources, and time. Terahertz technology is an emerging molecular spectroscopy technology in the 21st century. It is with low energy and basically harmless to the human body. It can also realize nondestructive testing of samples. In the experiment, the samples were prepared by the tableting method and the samples containing 20% of 50 mg samples were prepared with polyethylene as the diluent. The thickness of the samples was 1 mm and the diameter was 13 mm. The terahertz time‐domain spectrometer was used to obtain the spectral information of aging starch at different aging times. After the pretreatment of the spectrum by vector normalization, first derivative, and multiple scattering correction, the prediction models of aging days, crystallinity, and resilience of aging starch were established, respectively. The determination coefficient (R2) of the established models is all greater than 95%, indicating that the established models are highly reliable and can be used to predict the aging days, crystallinity, and retrogradation degree of starch. And the R2 of the prediction model based on the refractive index spectrum is greater than that of the absorption coefficient spectrum. The experimental method obtains the dynamic fingerprint identification map of starch in the aging process, realizes the real‐time monitoring and detection of the starch aging process, and provides an effective means for the production and processing of starch‐related industries.

BackgroundSleeve gastrectomy is an effective bariatric procedure; however, sleeve gastrectomy-related adverse skeletal outcomes have been increasingly reported. High levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) have been documented to be a risk factor of bone mineral density (BMD) loss with different effects observed between sexes. The aim of this study was to identify sex-specific changes in BMD following sleeve gastrectomy and to evaluate the role of SHBG in this process.MethodsThis retrospective study included 19 middle-aged men and 30 non-menopausal women with obesity who underwent sleeve gastrectomy in China. Anthropometrics, bone turnover markers, calciotropic hormones, BMD, SHBG, and gonadal steroids were measured preoperatively and at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Longitudinal changes in BMD, bone turnover markers and SHBG were compared between sexes by linear mixed models. Multiple stepwise regression analysis was used to identify the predictors of BMD loss at the investigated bone sites.ResultsOver the 12-month study period, total hip and femoral neck BMD decreased, while lumbar spine BMD remained largely unchanged in both sexes. Linear mixed models revealed significant sex × time interaction effects in total hip BMD and SHBG, showing that men had a significantly greater reduction in total hip BMD and less increase in SHBG after sleeve gastrectomy than women. In the multivariate model, SHBG was significantly associated with total hip BMD loss in men (adjusted β = −0.533, P = 0.019) but not women while total estrogen was significantly associated with total hip BMD loss in women (adjusted β = 0.508, P = 0.01) but not men.ConclusionSignificant sex-specific BMD changes were observed after sleeve gastrectomy in the current study. Sleeve gastrectomy-related increase in SHBG may be a specific risk factor for total hip BMD loss in men. Our results indicate that sex-specific screening may be warranted to facilitate personalized postoperative bone care in this population.

Abstract Introduction: We explored whether visceral fat accumulation mediates the development of hepatic steatosis in overweight and obese individuals. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 769 overweight and obese outpatients aged 18 to 65 years. The controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) was used to quantify the degree of hepatic steatosis. Visceral fat accumulation represented by the visceral fat area (VFA) was measured using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The associations of body mass index (BMI), VFA, and CAP with each other were assessed by univariate analysis, multivariate linear regression, and mediation analysis, respectively. Results: Compared with women, men subjects had a higher BMI, VFA, and CAP levels. In both sex, CAP was positively correlated with BMI and VFA by the univariate analysis. After adjusting for demographic and serum characteristics, the linear correlation coefficients between BMI and CAP were 1.738 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.100, 2.377], 1.524 (95% CI: 0.798, 2.249), and 2.650 (95% CI: 1.292, 4.009) in all subjects, females, and males, respectively, while those between VFA and CAP were 0.190 (95% CI: 0.133, 0.247), 0.184 (95% CI: 0.117, 0.252), and 0.194 (95% CI: 0.086, 0.301). Mediation analysis showed that visceral fat accumulation contributed to 51.37%, 53.85%, and 26.51% of obesity-induced hepatic steatosis in the total, female, and male subjects, respectively. Conclusion: Visceral fat accumulation partially mediates obesity-induced hepatic steatosis in overweight and obese individuals, especially in women. More focus on visceral fat reduction is needed in obese individuals.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have become far and wide used in a number of technical and merchant applications as a result of substantial advances in nanotechnology, therein single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) are one of the most promising nanoparticles. Inhaling CNTs has been linked to a variety of health problems, including lung fibrosis. Glycyrrhetinic acid 3-O-mono-β-D-glucuronide (GAMG), a natural sweetener, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capacities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential for GAMG to alleviate SWCNT-induced lung inflammation and fibrosis. During days 3–28 after SWCNT intratracheal administration, we observed a remarkable increase of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) on day 3 and collagen deposition on day 28. GAMG treatment remarkably ameliorated SWCNT-induced pulmonary fibrosis and attenuated SWCNT-induced inflammation and collagen deposition, and suppressed the activation of PI3K/AKT/NF-κB signaling pathway in the lungs. Therefore, GAMG has a therapeutic potential for the treatment of SWCNT-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Targeting PI3K/AKT/NF-κB signaling pathway may be a potential therapeutic approach to treat pulmonary fibrosis in mice with SWCNT.
