[Introduction] The gas turbine generator set (GE-PG9351FA) with a DLN2.0 + burner and a designed NOx emission concentration of 50 mg/m3 is used in a gas turbine power plant. During the warm-up periods, the generator set emitted a large amount of yellow smoke, which violates provisions stipulated in the "Emission Standard for Air Pollutants from Thermal Power Plants" (GB 13223—2011) and is complained by the surrounding residents. According to the new emission regulations for environmental protection in Jiangsu, starting from January 1, 2023, the converted NOx emission average throughout the operation period should be less than 30 mg/m3. In order to meet this requirement and reduce the emission of yellow nitrate smoke during start-up, the renovated SCR denitration technology for the flue gas of the HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) is adopted. Data simulation, deduction, analysis and summarization of various indicators are conducted during the start-up process to refine a reasonable startup operation method. [Method] To validate the feasibility of this method, the power plant conducted multiple peak shaving start-up process operation tests. Based on the actual NOx emission characteristics, adjustments were made to the start-up point, gas turbine load control, and input nodes for the SCR system in the operation method. This process resulted in an optimized operational strategy. [Result] The test results show that by optimizing the SCR denitration system input point, gas turbine start-up point and warm-up load after grid connection, the converted NOx emission average throughout the operation period is less than 30 mg/m3, and the phenomenon of yellow nitrate smoke disappeared. [Conclusion] This strategy is based on the characteristics of NOx and yellow nitrate smoke emission during the gas turbine start-up process. Afterward, through data deduction and numerous experiments for validation, it can provide direct guidance for reducing yellow nitrate smoke emission during the start-up process of similar gas turbines. Additionally, it can serve as an analytical reference for controlling NOx emissions during peak shaving operations in gas turbine power plants.

Take the metamorphic sandstone as the reference object, by making rock like samples with fractures, the conventional triaxial loading and unloading test and PFC numerical simulation of rock like sample with single fracture were conducted, and the effects of the loading path, inclined angle of fracture, axial stress level during unloading, initial confining pressure during unloading on the compressive strength, peak strain and crack propagation evolution of the samples were considered. The compressive strength of the specimen under triaxial unloading is smaller than that under triaxial loading. The peak strain of the specimen under triaxial unloading is also smaller than that under triaxial loading. The specimen is more prone to brittle failure. When the axial stress level is the same during unloading, with the increase of the initial confining pressure during unloading, the difference of the compressive strength of the specimens with different inclined angles of fracture gradually decreases. Under the condition of uniaxial compression and triaxial compression, the failure of all specimens is tensile failure, and the shear failure is the main one during unloading.

Abstract Creep is one of the typical mechanical properties of clay, and studying the creep mechanical properties of clay is of great significance to construction projects in clay sites. This study conducted creep tests on Chengdu clay and found that the soil mass underwent elastic deformation, decay creep deformation, steady-state creep deformation, and accelerated creep deformation. The isochronous stress ratio-logarithmic strain curves and their mathematical models were proposed to thoroughly analyze clay creep mechanical properties. Creep automatic feature points, such as linear elastic extreme point, initial yield point, long-term strength point, and plastic point, were identified on the curve. Considering the hardening and damage effects during creep loading, linear elastic and viscoelastic elements considering the time-dependent damage, a viscoplastic element considering the load hardening effect, and viscoplastic and plastic elements considering the load damage effect were established based on the element model and the Riemann–Liouville fractional derivative. Based on the mechanical properties of the whole clay creep process, the creep mechanical feature points, and the established element model, a clay creep model was proposed considering the hardening and damage effects. The rationality and regularity of the creep model were verified using the creep test data. This research accurately revealed the creep mechanical properties of clay and facilitated soil deformation prediction, thus providing technical guidance and references for construction projects in clay sites.

Abstract Background In contemporary society, with the accelerated pace of work and life, more and more people feel different degrees of stress. Long-term stress may not only lead to insomnia, but also to mental health problems (e.g., anxiety and depression), which has a significant impact on people's quality of life and mental health. Objective This study primarily investigates the mechanism through which stress affects sleep quality among college students. Methods We conducted research on 1653 Chinese college students using four scales with high reliability and validity: stress, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, social anxiety, and rumination. Results The study found: (1) Stress can significantly and positively predict sleep quality and rumination; (2) Rumination can positively predict social anxiety; (3) Social anxiety can positively predict sleep quality; (4) Stress can affect sleep quality through social anxiety and rumination separately, and stress can also affect sleep quality through the chained mediation of rumination and social anxiety. Conclusion This study reveals the relationship and mechanisms between stress and sleep quality. It not only deepens the research on the impact of stress on sleep quality but also provides theoretical support and new methods for mental health professionals to help clients improve their sleep quality. In practice, in addition to using some common psychological intervention methods to help individuals reduce stress, we should pay more attention to how to help clients reduce rumination and social anxiety, This is significant in improving the quality of an individual's sleep.

Abstract Background Macrophage activation may play a crucial role in the increased susceptibility of obese individuals to acute lung injury (ALI). Dysregulation of miRNA, which is involved in various inflammatory diseases, is often observed in obesity. This study aimed to investigate the role of miR-192 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI in obese mice and its mechanism of dysregulation in obesity. Methods Human lung tissues were obtained from obese patients (BMI ≥ 30.0 kg/m2) and control patients (BMI 18.5–24.9 kg/m2). An obese mouse model was established by feeding a high-fat diet (HFD), followed by intratracheal instillation of LPS to induce ALI. Pulmonary macrophages of obese mice were depleted through intratracheal instillation of clodronate liposomes. The expression of miR-192 was examined in lung tissues, primary alveolar macrophages (AMs), and the mouse alveolar macrophage cell line (MH-S) using RT-qPCR. m6A quantification and RIP assays helped determine the cause of miR-192 dysregulation. miR-192 agomir and antagomir were used to investigate its function in mice and MH-S cells. Bioinformatics and dual-luciferase reporter gene assays were used to explore the downstream targets of miR-192. Results In obese mice, depletion of macrophages significantly alleviated lung tissue inflammation and injury, regardless of LPS challenge. miR-192 expression in lung tissues and alveolar macrophages was diminished during obesity and further decreased with LPS stimulation. Obesity-induced overexpression of FTO decreased the m6A modification of pri-miR-192, inhibiting the generation of miR-192. In vitro, inhibition of miR-192 enhanced LPS-induced polarization of M1 macrophages and activation of the AKT/ NF-κB inflammatory pathway, while overexpression of miR-192 suppressed these reactions. BIG1 was confirmed as a target gene of miR-192, and its overexpression offset the protective effects of miR-192. In vivo, when miR-192 was overexpressed in obese mice, the activation of pulmonary macrophages and the extent of lung injury were significantly improved upon LPS challenge. Conclusions Our study indicates that obesity-induced downregulation of miR-192 expression exacerbates LPS-induced ALI by promoting macrophage activation. Targeting macrophages and miR-192 may provide new therapeutic avenues for obesity-associated ALI. Graphical Abstract

The rapid development of blockchain transactions highlights the importance of privacy protection (including anonymity and confidentiality) and underscores the necessity for auditability. Some schemes, such as PGC and Miniledger, support privacy protection and auditability. However, they only offer incomplete privacy protection (i.e., supporting anonymity or confidentiality exclusively). In response to these issues, we propose a scheme that achieves partial anonymity, confidentiality, auditability, and traceability. By integrating a variant of Pedersen commitments and randomizable signatures, we achieve partial anonymity for users and the auditability of transactions, thereby protecting user privacy under audit conditions. Based on the twisted ElGamal encryption algorithm and specially constructed zero-knowledge proofs, we achieve confidentiality of transaction amounts under legal and regulatory conditions. System test results indicate that this scheme effectively meets the above requirements. The feasibility of this scheme is confirmed through system testing, comparative analysis, and security analysis.

The concern and opposition to centralized management of user identities by third-party authorities have led to the emergence of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI). With the help of blockchain, SSI effectively restore users’ control over their own identities, but privacy concerns due to blockchain transparency, coupled with the absence of accountability like Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML), have cast uncertainties upon the viability of SSI. In this paper, we bridge this gap by introducing AASSI, a pioneering SSI protocol meticulously designed to balance the twin imperatives of privacy and accountability. Specifically, AASSI extends support for anonymity, self-derivation, fine-grained tracing and selective revocation. In the realm of anonymity and self-derivation, AASSI introduces redactable signatures, which empowers users to autonomously derive distinctive credentials for each user-service-provider interaction, effectively improving privacy protection and self-management capabilities. Pertaining to fine-grained tracing, the protocol employs a dual-tag system that facilitates tracing users’ real identities as well as a granular historical records of derived credentials. For selective revocation, AASSI leverages dynamic accumulators as a building block to enable the revocation of offending users. Ultimately, we provide functional comparison, which shows that AASSI has robust features, in particular, it supports novel self-derived features that further increase user control over their identity, and fine-grained tracking, which provides more flexibility for tracers. We demonstrate protocol efficiency through off-chain time-consuming comparison, which show that AASSI dramatically reduces the time overhead of credential verification. Moreover, We test the on-chain communication overhead and experimentally prove the feasibility of AASSI.

BackgroundIn the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, limited research has focused on socioeconomic disparities in Local Healthcare System Efficiency (LHSE) among Japanese prefectures. This study seeks to investigate the moderating impact of vaccination on the relationship between LHSE and socioeconomic characteristics and endowmentsMethodsTo explore these relationships, we first utilized the Data Envelopment Analysis with Slack-Based Measure to measure the LHSE, based on data from Japanese prefectures during waves 2 to 5 of the pandemic. Then estimating the impact of socioeconomic variables on LHSE. Finally, we assessed the changes in the way socioeconomic variables affect LHSE before and after vaccine deployment using the Seemingly Unrelated Estimation t-test methodology.ResultsThe research findings suggest an overall reduction in LHSE disparities across various regions due to the utilization of vaccines. Particularly in areas with relatively nsufficient bed resources, a significant improvement in LHSE was observed in most regions. However, there was no evidence supporting the role of vaccine deployment in mitigating socioeconomic inequalities in LHSE. Conversely, the utilization of vaccines showed a positive correlation between the improvement in LHSE and the proportion of older adult population in regions with sufficient bed resources. In regions facing bed shortages, the enhancement of LHSE became more reliant on reducing the occupancy rate of secured beds for severe cases after the introduction of vaccination.DiscussionIn regions facing bed shortages, the enhancement of LHSE became more reliant on reducing the occupancy rate of secured beds for severe cases. This underscores the importance for policymakers and implementers to prioritize the treatment of severe cases and ensure an effective supply of medical resources, particularly secured beds for severe cases, in their efforts to improve LHSE, in the post-COVID-19 era with rising vaccine coverage.

Introduction: The stress-strain relationship of clays characterized by strain hardening exhibits varying curves under different confining pressures and dry densities.Methods: Considering the viscoelastic properties of clays, a normalized viscoelastic model of strain-hardening clay was established based on fractional derivatives, and normalization factors were proposed.Results: The experimental results showed that the stress-strain relationship of the clay was strain hardening. It shows that Chengdu clay has better normalization conditions. Furthermore, the normalized analysis of this clay through the viscoelastic normalization model revealed that the straight line of normalized data displayed a goodness-of-fit of over 0.98. The obtained values were consistent with experimental results, suggesting the reasonability of the normalized strain-hardening parameters and elastic moduli.Discussion: In addition, the superiority of the developed model was verified by testing the strain-hardening clays in Wuhan, China and Bangkok, Thailand. After analyzing the strain-hardening parameters and normalization factors of our model, it was found that the slope of the normalized line can accurately reflect the strain-hardening ability of the clay. These findings demonstrated that the proposed normalization factor is preferred for a normalized viscoelastic model. It shows that the model proposed in this paper has clearer physical meaning and advancement.

Real-time bidding has become a major means for online advertisement exchange. The goal of a real-time bidding strategy is to maximize the benefits for stakeholders, e.g., click-through rates or conversion rates. However, in practise, the optimal bidding strategy for real-time bidding is constrained by at least three aspects: cost-effectiveness, the dynamic nature of market prices, and the issue of missing bidding values. To address these challenges, we propose Imagine and Imitate Bidding (IIBidder), which includes Strategy Imitation and Imagination modules, to generate cost-effective bidding strategies under partially observable price landscapes. Experimental results on the iPinYou and YOYI datasets demonstrate that IIBidder reduces investment costs, optimizes bidding strategies, and improves future market price predictions.

In order to explore the responses of growth, photosynthetic characteristics and nutrient accumulation of Cunninghamia lanceolata container seedlings to different amounts of slow-release fertilizer application. In this paper, the effects of different amounts of slow-release fertilizer application treatments (0, 200, 400, 800, 1 000 and 1 200 g·m-3) on the growth of seedlings height, ground diameter, biomass, photosynthetic pigment content, chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics and nutrient content of C. lanceolata seedlings were investigated. Moreover, subordinate function value method was also employed to comprehensive evaluate the growth and physiology indexes of seedlings under different fertilization treatments, and screening suitable slow-release fertilizer levels for the growth of C. lanceolata seedlings, which providing reference for the efficiency cultivation of high quality C. lanceolata seedlings. The results were as follows: (1) Compared with the control, the slow-release fertilizer application could promote the growth of seedling height, ground diameter and the accumulation of total biomass of C. lanceolata seedlings to varying degrees. (2) The slow-release fertilizer treatments could significantly increase the contents of chlorophyll and carotenoid in leaves of C. lanceolata compared with control. In addition, slow-release fertilizer treatments also increased the values of maximum fluorescence(Fm), variable fluorescence(Fv), maximum photochemical efficiency of PS Ⅱ(Fv/Fm), potential photochemical efficiency of PS Ⅱ(Fv/Fo) and actual quantum yield(QY) to varying degrees compared with control. (3) The slow-release fertilizer treatments could promote the nutrient accumulation in seedlings of C. lanceolata to varying degrees, among which the contents of Mn, Fe and Zn were found to be changed most significantly. (4) The results of subordinate function value method showed that when the amount of slow-release fertilizer application was 1 000 g·m-3, its membership value was the largest, which indicated that the comprehensive growth of seedlings under this treatment was the best. In conclusion, the amount of 1 000 g·m-3 slow-release fertilizer application is the most suitable treatment for the cultivation of high quality seedlings of C. lanceolata in the present study, under this treatment, the growth of C. lanceolata seedlings can be improved by increasing the accumulation of nutrient elements closely related to photosynthesis, thus increasing the contents of photosynthetic pigment in leaves, which in turn enhance the PS Ⅱ photosynthetic efficiency and electron transfer rate, further enhance the efficiency of light energy capture and utilization of leaves, and ultimately improve seedling growth.

The circadian rhythm generated by circadian clock genes functions as an internal timing system. Since the circadian rhythm controls abundant physiological processes, the circadian rhythm evolved in organisms is salient for adaptation to environmental change. A disturbed circadian rhythm is a trigger for numerous pathological events. Recently, accumulated data have indicated that kidney stone disease (KSD) is related to circadian rhythm disturbance. However, the mechanism between them has not been fully elucidated. In this narrative review, we summarized existing evidence to illustrate the possible association between circadian rhythm disturbance and KSD based on the epidemiological studies and risk factors that are linked to circadian rhythm disturbance and discuss some chronotherapies for KSD. In summary, KSD is associated with systemic disorders. Metabolic syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and microbiome dysbiosis are the major risk factors supported by sufficient data to cause KSD in patients with circadian rhythm disturbance, while others including hypertension, vitamin D deficiency, parathyroid gland dysfunction, and renal tubular damage/dysfunction need further investigation. Then, some chronotherapies for KSD were confirmed to be effective, but the molecular mechanism is still unclear.

In view of the current problems of complex models and insufficient data processing in ultra-short-term prediction of photovoltaic power generation, this paper proposes a photovoltaic power ultra-short-term prediction model named HPO-KNN-SRU, based on a Simple Recurrent Unit (SRU), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Hunter–Prey Optimization (HPO). Firstly, the sliding time window is determined by using the autocorrelation function (ACF), partial correlation function (PACF), and model training. The Pearson correlation coefficient method is used to filter the principal meteorological factors that affect photovoltaic power. Then, the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm is utilized for effective outlier detection and processing to ensure the quality of input data for the prediction model, and the Hunter–Prey Optimization (HPO) algorithm is applied to optimize the parameters of the KNN algorithm. Finally, the efficient Simple Recurrent Unit (SRU) model is used for training and prediction, with the Hunter–Prey Optimization (HPO) algorithm applied to optimize the parameters of the SRU model. Simulation experiments and extensive ablation studies using photovoltaic data from the Desert Knowledge Australia Solar Centre (DKASC) in Alice Springs, Australia, validate the effectiveness of the integrated model, the KNN outlier handling, and the HPO algorithm. Compared to the Support Vector Regression (SVR), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN), and Simple Recurrent Unit (SRU) models, this model exhibits an average reduction of 19.63% in Mean Square Error (RMSE), 27.54% in Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and an average increase of 1.96% in coefficient of determination (R2) values.

Abstract Background The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) was higher in primary aldosteronism (PA) patients. We aimed to evaluate the outcome of DM after adrenalectomy and determine the factors associated with that in PA patients. Methods PA patients with DM (PA + DM patients) who received adrenalectomy were recruited into the study. The patients were classified into 3 groups based on their DM conditions after treatment, including “remission”, “improved” and “unchanged” groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to uncover the preoperative factors affecting the outcome of DM after adrenalectomy. Results A total of 54 PA + DM patients received adrenalectomy. After adrenalectomy, 16.7%, 33.3% and 50.0% of patients were classified into the “remission”, “improved” and “unchanged” groups, respectively. The factors negatively associated with remission or improvement from DM after adrenalectomy were longer duration of hypertension (P = 0.029). Higher concentration of urinary magnesium (P = 0.031) and higher 24 h urinary potassium (P = 0.049) were factors negatively associated with the “remission” from DM after adrenalectomy. Conclusions Adrenalectomy was beneficial for the remission and improvement from DM in the half of PA patients with DM. Longer duration of hypertension, higher concentration of urinary magnesium and higher 24 h urinary potassium may prevent the remission and improvement from DM after adrenalectomy in PA patients. Examination of urinary electrolyte could be considered in PA patients with DM for predicting the outcome of DM after adrenalectomy.

Abstract We calculate the thermal correction to the entanglement spectrum for separating a single interval of two dimensional conformal field theories. Our derivation is a direct extension of the thermal correction to the Rényi entropy. Within a low-temperature expansion by including only the first excited state in the thermal density matrix, we approach analytical results of the thermal correction to the entanglement spectrum at both of the small and large interval limit. We find the temperature correction reduces the large eigenvalues in the entanglement spectrum while increases the small eigenvalues in the entanglement spectrum, leading to an overall crossover changing pattern of the entanglement spectrum. Crucially, at low-temperature limit, the thermal corrections are dominated by the first excited state and depend on its scaling dimension ∆ and degeneracy g. This opens an avenue to extract universal information of underlying conformal data via the thermal entanglement spectrum. All of these analytical computation is supported from numerical simulations using 1+1 dimensional free fermion. Finally, we extend our calculation to resolve the thermal correction to the symmetry-resolved entanglement spectrum.

BackgroundPsoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Dyslipidemia may be a risk factor of psoriasis. But the causal relationship between psoriasis and blood lipid still remains uncertain.MethodsThe two data of blood lipid were obtained from UK Biobank (UKBB) and Global Lipid Genetics Consortium Results (GLGC). The primary and secondary database were from large publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) with more than 400,000 and 170,000 subjects of European ancestry, respectively. The psoriasis from Finnish biobanks of FinnGen research project for psoriasis, consisting of 6,995 cases and 299,128 controls. The single-variable Mendelian randomization (SVMR) and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) were used to assess the total and direct effects of blood lipid on psoriasis risk.ResultsSVMR estimates in primary data of blood lipid showed low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (odds ratio (OR): 1.11, 95%, confidence interval (CI): 0.99−1.25, p = 0.082 in stage 1; OR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.05−1.26, p = 0.002 in stage 2; OR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.04−1.26, p = 0.006 in stage 3) and triglycerides (TG) (OR: 1.22, 95% CI: 1.10−1.35, p = 1.17E-04 in stage 1; OR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.06−1.24, p = 0.001 in stage 2; OR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.05−1.24, p = 0.002 in stage 3) had a highly robust causal relationship on the risk of psoriasis. However, there were no robust causal associations between HDL-C and psoriasis. The SVMR results in secondary data of blood lipid were consistent with the primary data. Reverse MR analysis showed a causal association between psoriasis and LDL-C (beta: -0.009, 95% CI: -0.016− -0.002, p = 0.009) and HDL-C (beta: -0.011, 95% CI: -0.021− -0.002, p = 0.016). The reverse causation analyses results between psoriasis and TG did not reach significance. In MVMR of primary data of blood lipid, the LDL-C (OR: 1.05, 95% CI: 0.99–1.25, p = 0.396 in stage 1; OR: 1.07, 95% CI: 1.01–1.14, p = 0.017 in stage 2; OR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.02–1.15, p = 0.012 in stage 3) and TG (OR: 1.11, 95% CI: 1.01–1.22, p = 0.036 in stage 1; OR: 1.09, 95% CI: 1.03–1.15, p = 0.002 in stage 2; OR: 1.07, 95% CI: 1.01–1.13 p = 0.015 in stage 3) positively correlated with psoriasis, and there had no correlation between HDL-C and psoriasis. The results of the secondary analysis were consistent with the results of primary analysis.ConclusionsMendelian randomization (MR) findings provide genetic evidence for causal link between psoriasis and blood lipid. It may be meaningful to monitor and control blood lipid level for a management of psoriasis patients in clinic.

Thousands of long intergenic non-coding RNAs (lincRNAs) are transcribed throughout the vertebrate genome. A subset of lincRNAs enriched in developing brains have recently been found to contain cryptic open-reading frames and are speculated to encode micropeptides. However, systematic identification and functional assessment of these transcripts have been hindered by technical challenges caused by their small size. Here, we show that two putative lincRNAs (linc-mipep, also called lnc-rps25, and linc-wrb) encode micropeptides with homology to the vertebrate-specific chromatin architectural protein, Hmgn1, and demonstrate that they are required for development of vertebrate-specific brain cell types. Specifically, we show that NMDA receptor-mediated pathways are dysregulated in zebrafish lacking these micropeptides and that their loss preferentially alters the gene regulatory networks that establish cerebellar cells and oligodendrocytes – evolutionarily newer cell types that develop postnatally in humans. These findings reveal a key missing link in the evolution of vertebrate brain cell development and illustrate a genetic basis for how some neural cell types are more susceptible to chromatin disruptions, with implications for neurodevelopmental disorders and disease.

The thermal perception of different body parts can vary greatly throughout the human body and have different influences on overall thermal sensation and comfort. Various personal comfort systems (PCS) have been developed to stimulate local body parts for the purpose of enhancing human thermal comfort, yet the most effective body parts for intervention remain undetermined. Therefore, a series of climate chamber experiments under five uniform environments with three sets of suits were conducted in this study. The results showed that the head, chest, belly, and hands tended to feel no cooler than overall in cooler environments, but arms and legs felt generally no warmer than overall in warmer environments. The head, trunk and upper arms were more likely to be the comfort-dominant body parts. Additionally, the upper arms and upper back expected temperature regulation measures the most under non-neutral environments, thus they seem to be the two most needed and effective targeted body parts that a PCS could be applied to. The skin temperature and thermal sensation of limbs were more sensitive to indoor air temperatures than those of the torso. However, variations in the skin temperature of the head, chest, upper back, and calves had the strongest correlation with overall sensation vote changes. The above results and conclusions can not only serve as the basis for the future studies of local thermal comfort, but also provide theoretical guidance for the design of future PCS products.

SETD2 methylates histone H3K36me3 in gene bodies in mammalian cells. Here the authors show H3K36me3 is also enriched at the promoter regions, and that this methylation is carried out by SMYD5, which is recruited by RNA polymerase II. Abstract Segment routing (SR) technology is a new network functional technology derived from MPLS technology and based on SDN. Combining SR with software-defined perimeter (SDP), a new network security technology, is expected to solve the traditional problems such as data monitoring, denial of service, and new threats such as loop attack and label detection faced by SR data plane. Focusing on the security management of access devices in the SR data plane, first, this paper proposes an SR security model SbSR (SDP-based SR) based on SDP trust enhancement architecture, then, two-level SDP AH trust verification mechanism and 4 trust management mechanisms including initial trust value, trust evaluation, trust renewal, trust inheritance are designed. In the trust evaluation mechanism as the core of the model, System cloud grey model (1,1) weighted Markov prediction model is introduced to obtain real-time trust based on the historical behavior of device nodes, and 4 indexes, namely benign message ratio, loyal forwarding ratio, forwarding ratio stationarity coefficient, packet rate stationarity coefficient, are introduced to distinguish malicious devices from normal devices. Finally, the simulation test results of 5 security functions and security costs show that the proposed architecture can solve port scanning, traffic monitoring, topology detection, loop attack, and DoS attack of SR network data plane with an average access delay cost of 2.84 s for each new network agent, and realize multi-faceted protection of SR network data plane.

IntroductionBladder cancer (BLCA) is one of the most lethal diseases. COL10A1 is secreted small-chain collagen in the extracellular matrix associated with various tumors, including gastric, colon, breast, and lung cancer. However, the role of COL10A1 in BLCA remains unclear. This is the first research focusing on the prognostic value of COL10A1 in BLCA. In this research, we aimed to uncover the association between COL10A1 and the prognosis, as well as other clinicopathological parameters in BLCA.MethodsWe obtained gene expression profiles of BLCA and normal tissues from the TCGA, GEO, and ArrayExpress databases. Immunohistochemistry staining was performed to investigate the protein expression and prognostic value of COL10A1 in BLCA patients. GO and KEGG enrichment along with GSEA analyses were performed to reveal the biological functions and potential regulatory mechanisms of COL10A1 based on the gene co-expression network. We used the “maftools” R package to display the mutation profiles between the high and low COL10A1 groups. GIPIA2, TIMER, and CIBERSORT algorithms were utilized to explore the effect of COL10A1 on the tumor immune microenvironment.ResultsWe found that COL10A1 was upregulated in the BLCA samples, and increased COL10A1 expression was related to poor overall survival. Functional annotation of 200 co-expressed genes positively correlated with COL10A1 expression, including GO, KEGG, and GSEA enrichment analyses, indicated that COL10A1 was basically involved in the extracellular matrix, protein modification, molecular binding, ECM-receptor interaction, protein digestion and absorption, focal adhesion, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. The most commonly mutated genes of BLCA were different between high and low COL10A1 groups. Tumor immune infiltrating analyses showed that COL10A1 might have an essential role in recruiting infiltrating immune cells and regulating immunity in BLCA, thus affecting prognosis. Finally, external datasets and biospecimens were used, and the results further validated the aberrant expression of COL10A1 in BLCA samples.ConclusionsIn conclusion, our study demonstrates that COL10A1 is an underlying prognostic and predictive biomarker in BLCA.

The Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant (PBFT) consensus algorithm has many advantages, which makes PBFT utilized widely. Nonetheless, PBFT is not suitable for large-scale node scenarios due to its high communication complexity and it also has an apparent disadvantage of inadequate fault tolerance. The typically derived PBFT algorithms focus on reducing communication complexity at the cost of diminished system security or fault tolerance. In this paper, Dual-Primary-Node derived Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (DPNPBFT) is proposed to achieve the best balance of the above three performances. First, DPNPBFT selects dual master nodes based on the idea of power separation. The two master nodes check balance and supervise each other to avoid excessive centralization as a single master node system. It also reduces the communication complexity of the replica node, which only communicates with the master node. Furthermore, we designed the architecture of DPNPBFT to get a practical 49% fault tolerance rate, and it is close to the current mainstream Proof of Work and Proof of Stake algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate that DPNPBFT has O(N) level communication complexity and excellent anti-host node malicious performance. The Transactions Per Second of DPNPBFT is stable at 1700. It proves DPNPBFT has the best performance balance and excellent comprehensive performance for large-scale Internet of Things application scenarios.

Purpose: Many studies identified that the preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (PNLR) was associated with patient prognosis in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). We hypothesized that PNLR could be prognostic in patients with histological variants of NMIBC (VH-NMIBC). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included patients with VH-NMIBC admitted at our center between January 2009 and May 2019. The best cut-off value of NLR was measured by the receiver operating characteristic curve and Youden index. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazard regression models were employed to evaluate the association between PNLR and disease prognosis, including recurrence-free survival (RFS), progression-free survival (PFS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and overall survival (OS). Weed suppression is an important factor affecting crop yields. Precise identification of weed species will contribute to automatic weeding by applying proper herbicides, hoeing position determination, and hoeing depth to specific plants as well as reducing crop injury. However, the lack of datasets of weeds in the field has limited the application of deep learning techniques in weed management. In this paper, it presented a dataset of weeds in fields, Weed25, which contained 14,035 images of 25 different weed species. Both monocot and dicot weed image resources were included in this dataset. Meanwhile, weed images at different growth stages were also recorded. Several common deep learning detection models—YOLOv3, YOLOv5, and Faster R-CNN—were applied for weed identification model training using this dataset. The results showed that the average accuracy of detection under the same training parameters were 91.8%, 92.4%, and 92.15% respectively. It presented that Weed25 could be a potential effective training resource for further development of in-field real-time weed identification models. Background: Stroke, including ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), remains a leading cause of mortality globally. Different stroke subtypes have similar detrimental effects in multiple fields of health. Previous research has shown that metformin plays a neuroprotective role in experimental animal models of stroke; however, a preclinical quantitative analysis on the ability of metformin to treat stroke is still lacking. This meta-analysis evaluates the efficacy of metformin in improving stroke prognosis in rodent models of stroke.Methods: Relevant preclinical trials were retrieved from PubMed, EMBASE, and the Web of Science. The neurological score (NS), brain water content (BWC), infarct size, rotarod test, TUNEL, neuron quantity, microglia quantity, and p-AMPK levels were compared between a control group and a metformin group using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and corresponding confidence interval (CI). Quality was assessed with SYRCLE’s risk of bias tool.Results: Fifteen articles published from 2010 to 2022 were included in the meta-analysis. The metformin group had statistically significant differences compared to the control group in the following aspects: NS (SMD −1.45; 95% CI −2.32, −0.58; p = 0.001), BWC (SMD −3.22; 95% CI −4.69, −1.76; p < 0.0001), infarct size (SMD −2.90; 95% CI −3.95, −1.85; p < 0.00001), rotarod test (SMD 2.55; 95% CI 1.87, 3.23; p < 0.00001), TUNEL (SMD -3.63; 95% CI −5.77, −1.48; p = 0.0009), neuron quantity (SMD 3.42; 95% CI 2.51, 4.34; p < 0.00001), microglia quantity (SMD −3.06; 95% CI -4.69, −1.44; p = 0.0002), and p-AMPK levels (SMD 2.92; 95% CI 2.02, 3.82; p < 0.00001). Furthermore, sensitivity analysis and stratified analysis were conducted for heterogeneous outcome indicators.Conclusion: Overall, metformin treatment improves severe outcomes triggered by stroke. Despite the limitations intrinsic to animal studies, this systematic review may provide a vital reference for future high-quality preclinical trials and clinical use.

Depression is a complex heterogeneous brain disorder characterized by a range of symptoms, resulting in psychomotor and cognitive disabilities and suicidal thoughts. Its prevalence has reached an alarming level affecting millions of people globally. Despite advances in current pharmacological treatments, the heterogenicity of clinical response and incidences of adverse effects have shifted research focus to identification of new natural substances with minimal or no adverse effects as therapeutic alternatives. Marine algae-derived extracts and their constituents are considered potential sources of secondary metabolites with diverse beneficial effects. Marine algae with enormous health benefits are emerging as a natural source for discovering new alternative antidepressants. Its medicinal properties exhibited shielding efficacy against neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction, which are indicated to underlie the pathogenesis of many neurological disorders. Marine algae have been found to ameliorate depressive-like symptoms and behaviors in preclinical and clinical studies by restoring monoaminergic neurotransmission, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function, neuroplasticity, and continuous neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus via modulating brain-derived neurotrophic factors and antineuroinflammatory activity. Although antidepressant effects of marine algae have not been validated in comparison with currently available synthetic antidepressants, they have been reported to have effects on the pathophysiology of depression, thus suggesting their potential as novel antidepressants. In this review, we analyzed the currently available research on the potential benefits of marine algae on depression, including their effects on the pathophysiology of depression, potential clinical relevance of their antidepressant effects in preclinical and clinical studies, and the underlying mechanisms of these effects.

Background: Resveratrol (RES) has a protective effect on acute lung injury (ALI) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Our purpose was to conduct a meta−analysis to investigate the efficacy of RES for ALI/ARDS in animal models.Methods: PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science were searched to screen relevant preclinical trials. The standardized mean difference (SMD) was used to compare the lung injury score, lung wet−dry weight ratio (W/D ratio), tumor necrosis factor−α (TNF−α), interleukin−1β (IL−1β), IL−6, IL−10, the number of neutrophils in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and the total protein in BALF between the treatment and control groups. SYRCLE’s risk of bias tool was used for quality assessment.Results: A total of 17 studies published from 2005 to 2021 were included in our study to calculate the SMD with corresponding confidence interval (CI). As compared with controls, RES significantly decreased the lung injury score (SMD −2.06; 95% CI −2.77, −1.35; p < 0.00001) and W/D ratio (SMD −1.92; 95% CI −2.62, −1.22; p < 0.00001). RES also reduced the number of neutrophils in BALF (SMD −3.03; 95% CI −3.83, −2.24; p < 0.00001) and the total protein in BALF (SMD −5.59; 95% CI −10.10, −1.08; p = 0.02). Furthermore, RES was found to downregulate proinflammatory mediators such as TNF−α (SMD −2.02; 95% CI −3.09, −0.95; p = 0.0002), IL−1β (SMD −2.51; 95% CI −4.00, −1.02; p = 0.001) and IL−6 (SMD −2.26; 95% CI −3.49, −1.04; p = 0.0003). But RES had little effect on the anti−inflammatory mediators such as IL−10 (SMD 2.80; 95% CI −0.04, 5.63; p = 0.05). Sensitivity analysis and stratified analysis were performed for the outcome indicators with heterogeneity.Conclusion: RES treatment is effective on reducing the severity of ALI. However, more animal studies and human trials are needed for further investigation. Our study may provide a reference for preclinical and clinical studies in the future to some extent.

Quarantine is one of the effective approaches to control the spread of COVID-19. However, prolonged isolation may harm the health of residents, especially students, who are quarantined in dormitories. This study surveyed students’ behaviors, living environment, and psychological state through an online questionnaire. The results showed that during the isolation period, the participants’ discomfort mainly came from high temperatures, high humidity, loud sounds, and dark lighting. Moreover, about half of the students experienced severe anxiety or depression, with poor sleep and an unclear mind being the most common problems. Additionally, this study focused on exploring the correlations between environmental perceptions and the psychological state of isolated students, that were identified to be significant. Furthermore, as isolation time was prolonged, the psychological state of isolated students worsened, and the most significant factor changed from thermal sensations to acoustic sensations. Interestingly, the psychological state of males was worse than females, and they were more easily affected by their thermal and acoustic environments. Therefore, keeping the environment comfortable has a positive influence on maintaining the good psychological condition of people in isolation. This study can provide suggestions for the improvement of indoor environments and for the mental health of people in isolation and in other similar situations.

Abstract Host characteristics, such as sex and age, are closely associated with the structure and function of gut microbiota; however, less is known about the effects of age and sex on the gut microbiota of nonhuman primates, and therefore, our knowledge of interindividual variability in host gut microbiota is limited. In this study, 153 fecal samples from rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) were analyzed using high‐throughput 16S rRNA sequencing in order to explore associations between age and sex of the host and their gut microbiota. The results indicated that female macaques had higher alpha diversity and a more unique gut microbiota than did males. The proportion of Proteobacteria, Tenericutes, Cyanobacteria, unclassified bacteria, and Verrucomicrobia was higher in females than that in males. We also found that adults of both sexes had a higher alpha diversity, a higher proportion of norank Ruminococcaceae, Oscillospira, norank Lachnospiraceae, norank Clostridiales, and Succinivibrio, and a lower proportion of Enterococcus than immatures. Functional analyses revealed that the richness of metabolic pathways was higher in females than males and in adults compared with immatures. These results could be attributed to differences in the nutritional requirements and hormone levels of macaques of different sex and age classes. We conclude that variation in the gut microbiota of different sex and age classes of rhesus macaques may be linked to age‐ and sex‐specific differences in nutrient requirements and hormone levels. These results highlight the importance of host age and sex on the structure and function of the gut microbiota and the need to consider physiological traits when conducting studies on the gut microbiota.

In recent decades, changes in temperature, wind, and rainfall patterns of Southeast Asia induced by climate warming in the Tibetan Plateau result in many environmental changes that have serious impacts on the lower reach of the Mekong River basin, a region already battling severe water-related environmental problems such as pollution, saltwater intrusion, and intensified flooding. In the densely populated Mekong Delta located at the mouth of the Mekong River basin in southern Vietnam, the hydrogeological systems have been transformed from an almost undisturbed to a human-impacted state and saltwater intrusion into surface water and groundwater systems has grown to be a detrimental issue recently, seriously threatening freshwater supply and degrading the eco-environment. In this article, the impacts of human activities and climate change (e.g., groundwater over-exploitation, relative sea-level rise, storm surge, changing precipitation and temperature regimes, uncontrolled drainage canals, operation of hydropower dams, and rapid development of aquaculture) on saltwater intrusion into groundwater systems in the Mekong Delta are briefly reviewed. Based on current status of research findings regarding saltwater intrusion and the subsequent groundwater quality degradation under the impacts of human activities and climate change, major knowledge gaps and challenges are identified and discussed, including thickness and permeability of the silt and clay aquitard, present-day highly heterogeneous 3D distribution of saline groundwater zones, dynamic variation of saltwater/freshwater transition zone, and the most effective and economical control measure. To bridge these gaps, future work should: 1) apply environmental isotope techniques in combination with borehole tests to gain detailed hydrogeological information regarding spatial variation of permeability and thickness of the silt and clay aquitard; 2) intensify regular groundwater monitoring and collect as much groundwater samples from multiple hydro-stratigraphic units at different depths as possible to visualize the present-day highly heterogeneous 3D distribution of saline groundwater; 3) develop a series of variable-density coupled groundwater flow and salt transport models representing various scenarios of human activities and climate change for predicting future extent of saltwater intrusion; and 4) identify the dominant factor causing saltwater intrusion and determine the most effective and economical engineering technique to address saltwater intrusion problems in the Mekong Delta.

Hydrogel coatings that can endow various substrates with superior properties (e.g., biocompatibility, hydrophilicity, and lubricity) have wide applications in the fields of oil/water separation, antifouling, anti-bioadhesion, etc. Currently, the engineering of multifunctional hydrogel-coated materials with superwettability and water purification property using a simple and sustainable strategy is still largely uninvestigated but has a beneficial effect on the world. Herein, we successfully prepared poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid) hydrogel/β-FeOOH-coated poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF/PAMPS/β-FeOOH) membrane through free-radical polymerization and the in situ mineralization process. In this work, owing to the combination of hydrophilic PAMPS hydrogel coating and β-FeOOH nanorods anchored onto PVDF membrane, the resultant PVDF/PAMPS/β-FeOOH membrane achieved outstanding superhydrophilicity/underwater superoleophobicity. Moreover, the membrane not only effectively separated surfactant-stabilized oil/water emulsions, but also possessed a long-term use capacity. In addition, excellent photocatalytic activity against organic pollutants was demonstrated so that the PVDF/PAMPS/β-FeOOH membrane could be utilized to deal with wastewater. It is envisioned that these hydrogel/β-FeOOH-coated PVDF membranes have versatile applications in the fields of oil/water separation and wastewater purification.

Abstract Hexanol–butanol–ethanol fermentation from syngas by Clostridium carboxidivorans P7 is a promising route for biofuel production. However, bacterial agglomeration in the culture of 37 °C severely hampers the accumulation of biomass and products. To investigate the effect of culture temperature on biomass growth and higher-alcohol production, C. carboxidivorans P7 was cultivated at both constant and two-step temperatures in the range from 25 to 37 °C. Meanwhile, Tween-80 and saponin were screened out from eight surfactants to alleviate agglomeration at 37 °C. The results showed that enhanced higher-alcohol production was contributed mainly by the application of two-step temperature culture rather than the addition of anti-agglomeration surfactants. Furthermore, comparative transcriptome revealed that although 37 °C promoted high expression of genes involved in the Wood–Ljungdahl pathway, genes encoding enzymes catalyzing acyl-condensation reactions associated with higher-alcohol production were highly expressed at 25 °C. This study gained greater insight into temperature-effect mechanism on syngas fermentation by C. carboxidivorans P7.

Our objective was to explore the mechanism of essential oil that was extracted from Cinnamomum camphora chvar. Borneol (Borneol essential oil) for improving learning and memory impairment in mice. Brain tissue and plasma samples of a normal group, a model group, a Borneol essential oil group and a reference group were detected using gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOFMS) in order to find differential metabolites and analyze metabolic pathways. Results showed that there were 11 different metabolites --including glycine and azelaic acid --in plasma samples, and that there were 26 different metabolites--including adenine and aspartic acid --in brain tissue samples. These metabolites are involved in phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis, phenylalanine metabolism, alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, arginine biosynthesis, beta-alanine metabolism, glyoxylate acid and dicarboxylate metabolism, and aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis. Thus, Borneol essential oil may improve learning and memory impairment by regulating amino acid metabolism and/or neurotransmitter changes.

Objective. Obesity-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress plays a role in increased susceptibility to acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) is associated with lung protection and is effective in ameliorating ER stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of PPARγ in the lung tissues of obese mice and explore whether the PPARγ-dependent pathway could mediate decreased ALI/ARDS by regulating ER stress and mitochondrial biogenesis. Methods. We determined PPARγ expression in the lung tissues of normal and obese mice. ALI models of alveolar epithelial cells and of obese mice were used and treated with either PPARγ activator rosiglitazone (RSG) or PPARγ inhibitor GW9662. Lung tissue and cell samples were collected to assess lung inflammation and apoptosis, and ER stress and mitochondrial biogenesis were detected. Results. PPARγ expression was significantly decreased in the lung tissue of obese mice compared with that in normal mice. Both in vivo and in vitro studies have shown that activation of PPARγ leads to reduced expression of the ER stress marker proteins 78-kDa glucose-regulated protein (GRP78), C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), and Caspase12. Conversely, expression of the mitochondrial biogenesis-related proteins peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1 (PGC-1α), nuclear respiratory factor-1 (NRF-1), and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) increased. Furthermore, activation of PPARγ is associated with decreased levels of lung inflammation and epithelial apoptosis and increased expression of adiponectin (APN) and mitofusin2 (MFN2). GW9662 bound to PPARγ and blocked its transcriptional activity and then diminished the protective effect of PPARγ on lung tissues. Conclusions. PPARγ activation exerts anti-inflammation effects in alveolar epithelia by alleviating ER stress and promoting mitochondrial biogenesis. Therefore, lower levels of PPARγ in the lung tissues of obese mice may lead to an increased susceptibility to ALI.

Purpose: Our aim was to assess the efficacy and safety of miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPCNL) versus standard PCNL (sPCNL) to provide higher-level evidence. Materials and Methods: Eligible randomized controlled trials were identified from electronic databases. The data analysis was performed by the Cochrane Collaboration's software RevMan 5.3. Results: A total of 1,219 patients from 9 articles published between 2004 and 2019 were included. Abstract Histone marks control many cellular processes including DNA damage repair. This review will focus primarily on the active histone mark H3K36me3 in the regulation of DNA damage repair and the maintenance of genomic stability after DNA damage. There are diverse clues showing H3K36me3 participates in DNA damage response by directly recruiting DNA repair machinery to set the chromatin at a “ready” status, leading to a quick response upon damage. Reduced H3K36me3 is associated with low DNA repair efficiency. This review will also place a main emphasis on the H3K36me3-mediated DNA damage repair in the tumorigenesis of the newly found oncohistone mutant tumors. Gaining an understanding of different aspects of H3K36me3 in DNA damage repair, especially in cancers, would share the knowledge of chromatin and DNA repair to serve to the drug discovery and patient care.

Data based intelligent fault diagnosis is a critical tool for the healthy development of industry process. In actual industrial production, there are often a few or even no labeled samples for target monitoring problem, while large amounts of training data come from different but related diagnosis task under variable working conditions. To utilize the labeled data on related issue for better monitoring performance, the cross-task fault diagnosis based on deep domain adaptation with local feature leaning is proposed. In our strategy, the two-stream stacked autoencoders based deep architecture is used to extract transferable features of collected data across the target diagnosis task domain and the related data-rich monitoring task domain. Then, the maximum mean discrepancy is introduced to establish a deep transfer diagnosis model. Moreover, to further optimize the model, we propose the local feature learning, which can make test data with better intra-class compactness and inter-class separability. Eventually, the proposed method is verified on the Tennessee Eastman process and the rolling bearing data, the results show that our approach achieves positive performance for cross-task fault diagnosis problems.

Background Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most lethal malignancies. Latest studies report that long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) play an essential role in diversified pathological processes of ESCC, although the mechanism by which they do so remains unknown. This study aimed to explore the parts of lncRNA taurine upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) in ESCC tissues and cells, its biofunctional effect and its underlying regulatory mechanism in ESCC. Methods The levels of TUG1 and miR‐148a‐3p were detected by quantitative real‐time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR) in ESCC cells and tissues. The biofunctional effects were examined by MTT, flow cytometry, and transwell assay. The protein expression levels of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT)‐related proteins and MCL‐1 were determined by western blot analysis. The binding sites between miR‐148a‐3p and TUG1 or MCL‐1 were predicted by online software starBase and confirmed by dual luciferase reporter assay. Results The mRNA expression of TUG1 was significantly upregulated in ESCC tissues or cells, and was negatively correlated to miR‐148a‐3p expression in tissues. Knockdown of TUG1 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion, promoted apoptosis, and relieved the EMT progression in EC9706 and OE19 cells. Besides, knockdown of miR‐148a‐3p inverted positive effects from TUG1 deletion on ESCC cells. Besides, MCL‐1 reversed the inhibitive effects from TUG1 deletion on expression of EMT‐associated proteins (Wnt1, C‐myc, CyclinD1, and β‐catenin) above subsequently. Conclusion TUG1 regulated the biofunction and EMT progression of ESCC by mediating miR‐148a‐3p/MCL‐1/Wnt/β‐catenin axis in vitro.

Tassieri et al. have introduced a novel rheological tool called “i-Rheo GT” that allows the evaluation of the frequency-dependent materials’ linear viscoelastic properties from a direct Fourier transform of the time-dependent relaxation modulus G(t), without artifacts. They adopted i-Rheo GT to exploit the information embedded in G(t) derived from molecular dynamics simulations of atomistic and quasi-atomistic models, and they estimated the polymers’ entanglement characteristic time (τe) from the crossover point of the moduli at intermediate times, which had never been possible before because of the poor fitting performance, at short time scales, of the commonly used generalized Maxwell models. Here, we highlight that the values of τe reported by Tassieri et al. are significantly different (i.e., an order of magnitude smaller) from those reported in the literature, obtained from either experiments or molecular dynamics simulations of different observables. In this work, we demonstrate that consistent values of τe can be achieved if the initial values of G(t), i.e., those governed by the bond-oscillation dynamics, are discarded. These findings have been corroborated by adopting i-Rheo GT to Fourier transform the outcomes of three different molecular dynamics simulations based on the following three models: a dissipative particle dynamics model, a Kremer–Grest model, and an atomistic polyethylene model. Moreover, we have investigated the variations of τe as function of (i) the ‘cadence’ at which G(t) is evaluated, (ii) the spring constant of the atomic bone, and (iii) the initial value of the shear relaxation modulus G(O). The ensemble of these results confirms the effectiveness of i-Rheo GT and provide new insights into the interpretation of molecular dynamics simulations for a better understanding of polymer dynamics.

Nanofiber bundles with specific areas bring a new opportunity for selective adsorption and oil/water or air separation. In this work, nanofiber bundles were prepared by the electrospinning of immiscible polystyrene (PS)/N-trifluoroacetylated polyamide 6 (PA6-TFAA) blends via the introduction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or a copolymer of styrene and 3-isopropenyl-α, α’-dimethylbenzene isocyanate (TMI), which was denoted as PS-co-TMI. Herein, CNT was used to increase the conductivity of the precursor for enhancing the stretch of PS droplets under the same electric field, and PS-co-TMI was used as a reactive compatibilizer to improve the compatibility of a PS/PA6-TFAA blend system for promoting the deformation. Those obtained nanofiber bundle membranes showed an increase in tensile strength and high hydrophobicity with a water contact angle of about 145.0 ± 0.5°. Owing to the special structure, the membranes also possessed a high oil adsorption capacity of 31.0 to 61.3 g/g for different oils. Moreover, it exhibits a high potential for gravity-driven oil/water separation. For example, those membranes had above 99% separation efficiency for silicon oil/water and paraffin wax/water. Furthermore, the air filtration efficiency of nanofiber bundle membranes could reach above 96%, which might be two to six times higher than the filtration efficiency of neat PS membranes.

Insect glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) play essential roles in metabolizing endogenous and exogenous compounds. GSTs that are uniquely expressed in antennae are assumed to function as scavengers of pheromones and host volatiles in the odorant detection system. Based on this assumption, antennae-specific GSTs have been identified and functionally characterized in increasing number of insect species. In the present study, 17 putative GSTs were identified from the antennal transcriptomic dataset of the Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella, a severe stored-grain pest worldwide. Among the GSTs, only PiGSTd1 is antennae-specific according to both Fragments Per Kilobase Million (FPKM) and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis. Sequence analysis revealed that PiGSTd1 has a similar identity as many delta GSTs from other moths. Enzyme kinetic assays using 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB) as substrates showed that the recombinant PiGSTd1 gave a Km of 0.2292 ± 0.01805 mM and a Vmax of 14.02 ± 0.2545 μmol·mg−1·min−1 under the optimal catalytic conditions (35°C and pH = 7.5). Further analysis revealed that the recombinant PiGSTd1 could efficiently degrade the sex pheromone component Z9-12:Ac (75.63 ± 5.52%), as well as aldehyde volatiles, including hexanal (89.10 ± 2.21%), heptanal (63.19 ± 5.36%), (E)-2-octenal (73.58 ± 3.92%), (E)-2-nonenal (75.81 ± 1.90%), and (E)-2-decenal (61.13 ± 5.24%). Taken together, our findings suggest that PiGSTd1 may play essential roles in degrading and inactivating a variety of odorants, especially sex pheromones and host volatiles of P. interpunctella.

ObjectivesThis study aimed to develop and validate a hypoxia signature for predicting survival outcomes in patients with bladder cancer.MethodsWe downloaded the RNA sequence and the clinicopathologic data of the patients with bladder cancer from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) (https://portal.gdc.cancer.gov/repository?facetTab=files) and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/) databases. Hypoxia genes were retrieved from the Molecular Signatures Database (https://www.gsea-msigdb.org/gsea/msigdb/index.jsp). Differentially expressed hypoxia-related genes were screened by univariate Cox regression analysis and Lasso regression analysis. Then, the selected genes constituted the hypoxia signature and were included in multivariate Cox regression to generate the risk scores. After that, we evaluate the predictive performance of this signature by multiple receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. The CIBERSORT tool was applied to investigate the relationship between the hypoxia signature and the immune cell infiltration, and the maftool was used to summarize and analyze the mutational data. Gene-set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to investigate the related signaling pathways of differentially expressed genes in both risk groups. Furthermore, we developed a model and presented it with a nomogram to predict survival outcomes in patients with bladder cancer.ResultsEight genes (AKAP12, ALDOB, CASP6, DTNA, HS3ST1, JUN, KDELR3, and STC1) were included in the hypoxia signature. The patients with higher risk scores showed worse overall survival time than the ones with lower risk scores in the training set (TCGA) and two external validation sets (GSE13507 and GSE32548). Immune infiltration analysis showed that two types of immune cells (M0 and M1 macrophages) had a significant infiltration in the high-risk group. Tumor mutation burden (TMB) analysis showed that the risk scores between the wild types and the mutation types of TP53, MUC16, RB1, and FGFR3 were significantly different. Gene-Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) showed that immune or cancer-associated pathways belonged to the high-risk groups and metabolism-related signal pathways were enriched into the low-risk group. Finally, we constructed a predictive model with risk score, age, and stage and validated its performance in GEO datasets.ConclusionWe successfully constructed and validated a novel hypoxia signature in bladder cancer, which could accurately predict patients’ prognosis.

Non-invasive methods to predict treatment response are urgently needed. Here in lung cancer, the authors develop a single-cell on-chip cytometry method to metabolically phenotype disseminated tumor cells, revealing metabolic heterogeneity and predictors of therapy response and survival.

Back-illuminated Al0.1Ga0.9N ultraviolet avalanche photodiodes (APDs) of various multiplication widths were fabricated on AlN templates with a separate absorption and multiplication structure. The impacts of an increased multiplication scale on a device performance were investigated. The avalanche breakdown voltage was found to increase as the multiplication layer thickness (MLT) increases. The APD with 230-nm-MLT achieved a superior maximum multiplication gain of 5.4 × 104, higher than that obtained in devices with 150-nm- and 300-nm-MLT. Theoretical simulations demonstrated that the critical electric field intensity in an avalanche region would decrease as the rising of MLT, indicating the modulating ability of multiplication scaling on the AlGaN APD performance. In addition, APDs fabricated on different AlN templates were employed to study the effects of crystalline quality on device properties.

Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is one of the most promising technologies for conversion of microalgae, and catalysts with high hydrothermal stability are required for controllable HTL. In this article, SBA-15 incorporated with transition metals (Ni, Pd, Co and Ru) were synthetized via double-template method for catalytic HTL of microalgae. The results showed that metal incorporated SBA-15 represented high hydrothermal stability at 613 K. The incorporated Ni, Co and Ru was dispersed in SBA-15 enhancing the hydrothermal stability. The catalysts greatly influenced the chemical composition of the obtained bio-oil, which contained a higher percentage of furfural derivatives and a lower content of fatty acids and N-containing compounds, thus bio-oil quality was improved significantly. Higher hydrothermal stability and specific surface areas of Co-SBA-15 contribute to the highest preformation with 78.78% conversion and 24.11 wt% bio-oil yield. Metal incorporated SBA-15 provides a potential application for biomass conversion in high-temperature aqueous phase. Wnt signaling is one of the key cascades regulating normal tissue development and has been tightly associated with cancer. The Wnt signaling can be subdivided into two categories: canonical & noncanonical. Noncanonical Wnt signaling pathways mainly include Wnt/PCP (planar cell polarity) signaling and Wnt-cGMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate) /Ca2+ signaling. It has been well studied by previous researches that noncanonical Wnt signaling regulates multiple cell functions including proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, polarity, motility, and migration. The aberrant activation or inhibition of noncanonical Wnt signaling is crucial in cancer progression, exerting both oncogenic and tumor-suppressive effects. Recent studies show the involvement of noncanonical Wnt in regulating cancer cell invasion, metastasis, metabolism, and inflammation. Here, we review current insights into novel components of non-canonical signalings and describe their involvement in various cancer types. We also summarize recent biological and clinical discoveries that outline non-canonical Wnt signaling in tumorigenesis. Finally, we provide an overview of current strategies to target non-canonical Wnt signaling in cancer and challenges that are associated with such approaches.
