2. The regulatory mechanism of rapid lignification for timely anther dehiscence.

- Abstract
ABSTRACT Anther dehiscence is a crucial event in plant reproduction, tightly regulated and dependent on the lignification of the anther endothecium. In this study, we investigated the rapid lignification process that ensures timely anther dehiscence in Arabidopsis. Our findings reveal that endothecium lignification can be divided into two distinct phases. During Phase I, lignin precursors are synthesized without polymerization, while Phase II involves simultaneous synthesis of lignin precursors and polymerization. The transcription factors MYB26, NST1/2, and ARF17 specifically regulate the pathway responsible for the synthesis and polymerization of lignin monomers in Phase II. MYB26‐NST1/2 is the key regulatory pathway responsible for endothecium lignification, while ARF17 facilitates this process by interacting with MYB26. Interestingly, our results demonstrate that the lignification of the endothecium, which occurs within approximately 26 h, is much faster than that of the vascular tissue. These findings provide valuable insights into the regulation mechanism of rapid lignification in the endothecium, which enables timely anther dehiscence and successful pollen release during plant reproduction. 3. Cu(III)‐CF3 Compound‐Activated DMSO: An Efficient Oxidizing Reagent to Convert Alcohols to Ketones.

In this study high‐valent Cu(III) trifluoromethyl compounds in combination with DMSO is shown to be an efficient and mild oxidizing system for the conversion of alcohols to ketones (aldehydes as well). Trifluoromethoxylated sulfonium species is proposed to be initially formed that engages in crucial steps of alkoxy replacement at sulfonium center and deprotonative collapse of the resulting alkoxysulfonium intermediate in the presence of a base. This reaction is highly selective without over‐oxidation, and can tolerate a broad range of functional groups owing to mild oxidizing ability of the Cu(III)‐CF3/DMSO system and the inert N2 conditions. This method can be applied to the synthesis and functionalization of commercial drug compounds. This study illustrates an unusual reactivity property of high‐valent Cu(III) trifluoromethyl compounds beyond the conventional CF3 group transfer reactivity, and opens up new opportunities for developing novel reactions of Cu(III)‐CF3 compounds. The combined use of high‐valent Cu(III)‐CF3 compound and DMSO is anticipated to find more applications to develop other novel and useful oxidation reactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is considered a stress disorder characterized by psychological and gastrointestinal dysfunction. IBS patients not only suffer from intestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation but also, experience dysthymic disorders such as anxiety and depression. Studies have found that corticotropin-releasing hormone plays a key role in IBS with comorbid dysthymic disorders. Next, we will summarize the effects of corticotropinreleasing hormone from the central nervous system and periphery on IBS with comorbid dysthymic disorders and relevant treatments based on published literatures in recent years. 5. Improving platelet function following prophylactic platelet transfusion in patients with hematological malignancies.

Introduction: Platelet transfusion is a standard treatment to prevent bleeding in patients with hematological malignancies. Although transfusions can improve platelet count, their impact on platelet function remains controversial. Methods: We conducted flow cytometry to assess platelet function before and after transfusion and performed subgroup analyses to examine differences based on blood type, corrected count increment (CCI), and platelet microparticles. Results: Overall, 50 patients who received prophylactic platelet transfusion were enrolled. CD42b expression increased, whereas CD41 expression decreased after transfusion. Apheresis platelets exhibited the lowest expression of PAC‐1 and P‐selectin when exposed to agonist stimulations. PAC‐1 expression increased under high adenosine diphosphate (ADP) stimulation, while P‐selectin expression increased under both high ADP and thrombin receptor‐activating peptide stimulation. In the subgroup analysis, patients with a CCI >4500 and those with the same blood types exhibited a more significant increase in PAC‐1 and P‐selectin expression under agonist stimulation. When comparing apheresis platelets collected on different days, only the percentage of platelet‐derived microparticles showed a significant increase. Conclusion: Prophylactic transfusion improved platelet function. Platelet function significantly improved in patients with a CCI >4500, those with the same blood types as that of apheresis platelets, or those with platelet‐derived microparticle levels <4.7%. No significant improvement in platelet function was noted after the transfusion of different blood types with acceptable compatibility or the transfusion of incompatible blood types. Li−CO2 batteries have received significant attention owing to their advantages of combining greenhouse gas utilization and energy storage. However, the high kinetic barrier between gaseous CO2 and the Li2CO3 product leads to a low operating voltage (<2.5 V) and poor energy efficiency. In addition, the reversibility of Li2CO3 has always been questioned owing to the introduction of more decomposition paths caused by its higher charging plateau. Here, a novel "trinity" Li−CO2 battery system was developed by synergizing CO2, soluble redox mediator (2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidoxyl, as TEM RM), and reduced graphene oxide electrode to enable selective conversion of CO2 to Li2C2O4. The designed Li−CO2 battery exhibited an output plateau reaching up to 2.97 V, higher than the equilibrium potential of 2.80 V for Li2CO3, and an ultrahigh round‐trip efficiency of 97.1 %. The superior performance of Li−CO2 batteries is attributed to the TEM RM‐mediated preferential growth mechanism of Li2C2O4, which enhances the reaction kinetics and rechargeability. Such a unique design enables batteries to cope with sudden CO2‐deficient environments, which provides an avenue for the rationally design of CO2 conversion reactions and a feasible guide for next‐generation Li−CO2 batteries. Reducing the contact time of impacting nanodroplets is of fundamental interest and importance due to its promising potential in various engineering applications, such as self-cleaning and anti-icing. In this work, nanodroplets impacting superhydrophobic surfaces decorated by a rectangular ridge are studied over a wide range of Weber number (We) and different sizes of the ridge via molecular dynamics. Six bouncing modes have been distinguished. The usage of the rectangular ridge significantly enhances the bouncing performance of nanodroplets, including enlarging the We range for bouncing and reducing the contact time. It is especially found that the rectangular ridge leads to an increased contact time compared with the flat surface in the moderate We region. The underlying mechanism of the differential effect of the rectangular ridge on the contact time is compressively elucidated by the retraction dynamics of distinct bouncing modes. Subsequently, the retraction models considering different retraction characteristics are developed for the unsplit case. To promote a universal understanding of the effect of the ridge on the retraction dynamics of nanodroplets, several typical ridge shapes (triangular, cylinder, and semi-circular) are further considered. The retraction models are extended and verified to consider the effect of the ridge shape by introducing the equivalent structure parameters. Based on such a universal understanding, a newly designed shoot-shaped ridge is proposed and can considerably reduce the contact time of unsplit nanodroplets in the moderate We region. 9. Impact of a nanodroplet on liquid surfaces.

The present study investigates impact of nanodroplets on liquid films with varied film thicknesses over hydrophilic to hydrophobic surfaces via molecular dynamics simulations. A new crown pattern, hollow crown, is observed on medium liquid films for nanodroplets, whereas it is not reported for millimeter-sized droplets. Holes (or hollows) are attributed to capillary vibration of a nanometer-thick liquid film. The occurrence of holes is inhibited effectively for deep liquid films because the cavity thickness is much larger than the amplitude of capillary vibration. Surface wettability has a significant influence on thin and medium liquid films for nanodroplets, whereas it only affects thin liquid films for macrodroplets because the range of solid–liquid intermolecular forces is comparable to the size of droplets when the size of droplets reduces to the nanoscale. Subsequently, the accuracies of the existing macroscale models for predicting the time-dependent crown radius of nanodroplets are tested by simulated results. The results show that the macroscale models cannot capture the time-dependent crown radius of nanodroplets. On the basis of energetics analysis, we prove that the failure of macroscale models is attributed to the distinct difference in viscous dissipation mechanisms between macroscale and nanoscale droplets. Two-dimensional (2D) valleytronic materials are both fundamentally intriguing and practically appealing to explore novel physics and design next-generation devices. However, traditional control means such as optic pumping or magnetic field cannot meet the demands of modern electron devices for miniaturization, low-dissipation, and non-volatility. Thus, it is attractive to combine the ferroelectric property with valley property in a single compound. In this paper, the recent progress of ferroelectric-valley coupling is reviewed. First, we briefly recall the development of valleytronics in the past several years. Then, various structures demonstrating ferroelectric-valley coupling, including heterostructures and intrinsic materials, are introduced. Subsequently, we describe ferroelectric-valley coupling in sliding and adsorption system and the unconventional ferroelectricity in the moiré system. Finally, we discuss the research status and outlook. We hope that this perspective will be helpful to bridge the gap between valleytronics and ferroelectrics in 2D materials and inspire further exciting findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditional techniques (e.g., genomics‐based methods) are still in use; however, emerging approaches like mass spectrometry (MS)‐based technologies are being actively developed to supplement or supersede current methods for authentication of a variety of food commodities and products. Insect olfactory receptors (iORs) with atypical 7‐transmembrane domains, unlike Chordata olfactory receptors, are not in the GPCR protein family. iORs selectively bind to volatile ligands in the environment and affect essential insect behaviors. In this study, we constructed a new platform (iORbase, https://www.iorbase.com) for the structural and functional analysis of iORs based on a combined algorithm for gene annotation and protein structure prediction. Moreover, it provides the option to calculate the binding affinities and binding residues between iORs and pheromone molecules by virtual screening of docking. Furthermore, iORbase supports the automatic structural and functional prediction of user‐submitted iORs or pheromones. iORbase contains the well‐analyzed results of approximately 6 000 iORs and their 3D protein structures identified from 59 insect species and 2 077 insect pheromones from the literature, as well as approximately 12 million pairs of simulated interactions between functional iORs and pheromones. We also built 4 online modules, iORPDB, iInteraction, iModelTM, and iOdorTool to easily retrieve and visualize the 3D structures and interactions. iORbase can help greatly improve the experimental efficiency and success rate, identify new insecticide targets, or develop electronic nose technology. 13. Radiomics model based on intravoxel incoherent motion and diffusion kurtosis imaging for predicting histopathological grade and Ki-67 expression level of soft tissue sarcomas.

Background: Accurate identification of the histopathological grade and the Ki-67 expression level is important in clinical cases of soft tissue sarcomas (STSs). Purpose: To explore the feasibility of a radiomics model based on intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) MRI parameter maps in predicting the histopathological grade and Ki-67 expression level of STSs. Material and Methods: In total, 42 patients diagnosed with STSs between May 2018 and January 2020 were selected. The MADC software in Functool of GE ADW 4.7 workstation was used to obtain standard apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), D, D*, f, mean diffusivity, and mean kurtosis (MK). The histopathological grade and Ki-67 expression level of STSs were identified. The radiomics features of IVIM and DKI parameter maps were used as the dataset. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and F1-score were calculated. Results: D -SVM achieved the best diagnostic performance for histopathological grade. The AUC in the validation cohort was 0.88 (sensitivity: 0.75 [low level] and 0.83 [high level]; specificity: 0.83 [low level] and 0.75 [high level]; F1-score: 0.75 [low level] and 0.83 [high level]). MK-SVM achieved the best diagnostic performance for Ki-67 expression level. The AUC in the validation cohort was 0.83 (sensitivity: 0.83 [low level] and 0.50 [high level; specificity: 0.50 [low level] and 0.83 [high level]; F1-score: 0.77 [low level] and 0.57 [high level]). Conclusion: The proposed radiomics classifier could predict the pathological grade of STSs and the Ki-67 expression level in STSs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a novel two‐element printed monopole MIMO design for dual‐band operation with high port isolation and compact size. Upper‐band (f2) decoupling is achieved by the optimal meandering of the monopole, while the lower band (f1) decoupling is attained by the insertion of a new T‐shaped neutralization line structure. Unlike conventional decoupling techniques, the proposed method offers independent control of decoupling performance at two widely spaced frequency bands, without any bulky structure. For validation, a printed monopole MIMO antenna designed to operate at 2.45 and 5.0 GHz, is fabricated and measured. Simulation and experimental results indicate that the proposed dual‐band antenna exhibit high port isolation (20 dB/25 dB) with enhanced efficiency (92%) and reduced ECC values (<0.05). 15. Impact of nanodroplets on solid spheres.

Rising nanoscale technologies arouse interest in investigating the impact dynamics of nanodroplets. In this work, the impact of nanodroplets on solid spheres is investigated by the molecular dynamics simulation method, to comprehensively report outcome regimes and reveal the curvature effect, in wide ranges of Weber numbers (We) from 1.5 to 235.8, diameter ratios (λ) of nanodroplets to solid spheres from 0.3 to 5, and contact angles (θ) from 105° to 135°. Five outcomes are identified, including deposition, bouncing, splash, covering, and dripping. The former three outcomes are found in the high diameter ratio range (λ > 1), showing similar dynamic behaviors with impacts on flat surfaces, whereas in the low diameter ratio range (λ ≤)1, splash disappears, and covering and dripping take place additionally. At each contact angle, the outcomes are recorded in λ-We phase diagrams. It is found that the bouncing, splash, covering, and dripping are all promoted by decreasing diameter ratios; in addition, the critical Weber numbers for trigging bouncing and splash increase with decreasing θ. However, the critical We of the boundary between the bouncing to other regimes in the low diameter ratio range is not sensitive to wettability owing to the relatively small diameter of solid spheres. For quantitatively describing the curvature effect, the boundaries between the deposition and bouncing regimes in the high diameter ratio range and between the bouncing and other regimes in the low diameter ratio range are established. 16. Genome-wide identification and characterization of the IPT family members in nine Rosaceae species and a functional analysis of MdIPT5b in cold resistance.

Cytokinins are members of a group of phytohormones involved in various growth and developmental processes in plants. Isopentenyl transferase (IPT) is the rate-limiting enzyme in catalyzing the biosynthesis of cytokinins. In this study, to understand the role of IPT family in cold resistance, 78 IPT candidates were identified and characterized in nine Rosaceae genomes. The expansion of IPT families in the Rosaceae primarily occurred through segmental duplication rather than tandem duplication. In general, purifying selection controlled the evolution of IPT families in the Rosaceae, with IPT3 and IPT5 homologs as the primary drivers of evolution. Cis-elements, which are involved in the responses to many environmental stresses or phytohormone signals, were identified in the promoters of MdIPT members. This was consistent with the trends of expression of the MdIPT genes in apple (Malus domestica) calli. MdIPT5b was also found to exhibit multiple responses to phytohormones and stress signals. The ectopic expression of MdIPT5b resulted in an increase in cold resistance in transformed apple calli and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plantlets. The redox balance was partially stabilized through the accumulation of proline under cold stress. However, the ascorbateeglutathione cycle cannot be stabilized in the cold. All physiological and biochemical assays are preformed in spectrophotometer. These results showed that regulating the expression of IPT genes for moderate cytokinin improvement could enhance the accumulation of proline to stabilize the osmotic and redox balances to improve resistance to cold stress. We are pleased to announce that the 49th annual meeting of NATAS cwill be held in Rockville, MD, a beautiful city that is part of the Washington D.C. National Capital Area, on the DC metro system (allowing easy access to Washington museums and sites), and close to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Army Research Laboratory (ARL), Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU-APL), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Georgetown University, George Washington University, George Mason University, and the University of Maryland. The North American Thermal Analysis Society is a venerable organization that offers scientists and practitioners the opportunity to explore the frontiers of thermal analysis, rheology, and materials characterization. The NATAS meeting always features new developments in the science of thermal analysis as well as applications of these techniques in a wide variety of fields. The meeting includes exhibits from vendors allowing for personalized attention and connecting with providers of instrumentation and software related to thermal analysis. 18. S100A9 Regulated M1/M2 Macrophage Polarization in Interleukin-10-Induced Promotion of Malignant Pleural Effusion.

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) promotes the formation and development of malignant pleural effusion (MPE). Previous studies have elucidated the pathogenesis from the view of the immune-regulation function of CD4+ T-cells. However, the underlying mechanism is still not fully understood. In this study, our results showed that IL-10 deficiency reduced the percentage of macrophages in mouse MPE and regulated M1/M2 polarization in vivo and in vitro. The migration capacity of tumor cells was suppressed, and apoptosis was promoted when tumor cells were cocultured with MPE macrophages in the absence of IL-10. Messenger RNA sequencing of MPE macrophages showed that S100A9 was downregulated in IL-10−/− mice. Bone marrow-derived macrophages obtained from wild-type mice transfected with S100A9-specific small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) also showed less M2 and more M1 polarization than those from the siRNA control group. Furthermore, downregulation of S100A9 using S100A9-specific siRNA suppressed MPE development, decreased macrophages, and modulated macrophage polarization in MPE in vivo. In conclusion, S100A9 plays a vital role in the process of IL-10 deficiency-mediated MPE suppression by regulating M1/M2 polarization, thus influencing the tumor-migration capacity and apoptosis. This could result in clinically applicable strategies to inhibit the formation of MPE by regulating the polarization of MPE macrophages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

19. Does information and communication technology reduce carbon emissions in China? Evidence from the quasi-natural experiment of the “Broadband China” pilot policy.

- Abstract
The relationship between information and communication technology (ICT) and carbon emissions has been inconsistent. Based on the panel data for 261 cities from 2008 to 2018 in China, this paper takes the “Broadband China” pilot policy as a quasi-natural experiment, and uses the difference-in-differences model, instrumental variable approach and other research methods to comprehensively evaluate the impact of the “Broadband China” pilot policy on carbon emissions. Our research found that the “Broadband China” pilot policy can reduce carbon emissions in China, but there was a certain lag in this effect. At the same time, the “Broadband China” pilot policy can reduce carbon emissions by promoting adjustment of industrial structure and green technology innovation, and the mechanism of green technology innovation played a stronger role. In addition, we also found that there was a spatial spillover effect of the “Broadband China” pilot policy affecting carbon emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The digital economy is integral in driving economic growth, particularly of high-quality standards. Against the backdrop of the "Double Carbon" project, exploring the impact of the digital economy on green agricultural development bears tremendous practical significance. Thus, this study aims to investigate how the digital economy affects agricultural green total factor productivity (GTFP). The entropy-TOPSIS method and SBM-GML index are used to measure core variables quantitatively. In addition, two-way fixed effects panel data models, Tobit, and intermediary effect models are implemented. Three research findings emerge. First, China's agricultural GTFP level generally experiences an upward trend, and the development of the digital economy has a significant positive effect on increasing agricultural GTFP. Second, the digital economy mainly promotes agricultural technology innovation that boosts agricultural GTFP. Third, Western China experiences a more significant positive effect of the digital economy on agricultural GTFP than Central and Eastern China. Finally, based on the findings, this paper proposes relevant policy recommendations to promote green and sustainable agriculture development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. Scaling laws for the contact time of impacting nanodroplets: From hydrophobic to superhydrophobic surfaces.

Nanodroplet impacts have attracted significant attention, while the effect of surface wettability on contact time is evaluated poorly. Utilizing molecular dynamics simulations, the current work with a special focus on the contact time studies nanodroplets impacting solid surfaces in a wide range of static contact angles (θ0 = 105°–175°) and the Weber number (We = 0.1–200). The complete trends in contact time and restitution coefficient with surface wettability are analyzed and reported for the first time. For surfaces with θ0 > 160°, four different regimes are identified for the contact time and restitution coefficient as a function of the Weber number. For surfaces with 110° < θ0 < 160°, the fourth regime is not observed. The restitution coefficient is employed to analyze the contact time of distinct rebound patterns in the individual wettability range. Intriguingly, surface wettability has a remarkable influence on the contact time of nanodroplets even for superhydrophobic surfaces. The main reason for the difference between the macroscale and nanoscale is attributed to the significantly enhanced viscous effect and interfacial effect of the nanoscale impact. Considering the different effects of surface wettability on spreading and retraction dynamics, the theoretical models for the maximum spreading factor, spreading velocity, and retraction velocity are established. Finally, scaling laws of the spreading time τspr ∼ (R0/Vi)We2/3Re−1/3 and retraction time τret ∼ (R0/Vi)We2/3Re−1/3(1 − cos θ0)−1/2 are proposed. An excellent agreement with both the current data sources and the results in the literature verifies the universality of the current scaling law from hydrophobic to superhydrophobic surfaces. Background Adding radiotherapy (RT) to systemic therapy improves progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in oligometastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Whether these findings translate to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)–mutated NSCLC remains unknown. The SINDAS trial (NCT02893332) evaluated first-line tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy for EGFR -mutated synchronous oligometastatic NSCLC and randomized to upfront RT vs no RT; we now report the prespecified interim analysis at 68% accrual. Methods Inclusion criteria were biopsy-proven EGFR -mutated adenocarcinoma (per amplification refractory mutation system or next generation sequencing), with synchronous (newly diagnosed, treatment naïve) oligometastatic (≤5 metastases; ≤2 lesions in any one organ) NSCLC without brain metastases. All patients received a first-generation TKI (gefitinib, erlotinib, or icotinib), and randomization was between no RT vs RT (25-40 Gy in 5 fractions depending on tumor size and location) to all metastases and the primary tumor/involved regional lymphatics. The primary endpoint (intention to treat) was PFS. Secondary endpoints included OS and toxicities. All statistical tests were 2-sided. Results A total of 133 patients (n = 65 TKI only, n = 68 TKI with RT) were enrolled (2016-2019). The median follow-up was 23.6 months. The respective median PFS was 12.5 months vs 20.2 months (P < .001), and the median OS was 17.4 months vs 25.5 months (P < .001) for TKI only vs TKI with RT. Treatment yielded no grade 5 events and a 6% rate of symptomatic grade 3-4 pneumonitis in the TKI with RT arm. Based on the efficacy results of this prespecified interim analysis, the ethics committee recommended premature cessation of this trial. Conclusions As compared with a first-line TKI alone, addition of upfront local therapy using RT statistically significantly improved PFS and OS for EGFR -mutated NSCLC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Methionine is the only one of the essential amino acids that contain sulfur, widely used as a feed additive in agriculture. In this study, the availability of 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate was confirmed as the main limitation in the complex multibranched biosynthetic pathway of L-methionine. The cycle of one-carbon units was thoroughly investigated and modified to supply 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate for L-methionine production, such as enhancing the supply of precursor, expediting the conversion rate of the cycle, introducing exogenous serine hydroxymethyltransferase and increasing pool size of one-carbon units carrier. The final strain MYA/pAmFA-4 was able to produce 20.89 g/L L-methionine by fed-batch fermentation, which was the highest titer reported in the literatures. This study is instructive for other metabolites biosynthesized needing one-carbon units or having a complex multibranched biosynthetic pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a decoupling technique with bandwidth enhanced by introducing two transmission zeros based on common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) cancellation. The mutual coupling between antennas can be thoroughly eliminated if the CM and DM impedances are equal. Two transmission zeros with closely spaced frequencies are created by using a neutralization line and a parasitic element. The neutral line and parasitic unit can change the currents of radiation patches in CM and DM to realize an enhancement of decoupling bandwidth. To demonstrate the feasibility of this method, a reference and proposed arrays are fabricated and measured. In measurement, the port isolation of proposed antenna array is enhanced by 10.3–21.56 dB in the desired frequency band. Besides, the efficiency and gain are improved by 0.5–3 dB and 10.4%–18%, respectively. The pattern diversity/envelop correlation coefficient (ECC) is also enhanced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The chi-squared automatic interaction detector (CHAID) algorithm is considered to be one of the most used supervised learning methods as it is adaptable to solving any kind of problem at hand. We are keenly aware of the non-linear relationships among CHAID maps, and they can empower predictive models with stability. However, we do not precisely know how high its accuracy. To determine the perfect scope the CHAID algorithm fits into, this paper presented an analysis of the accuracy of the CHAID algorithm. We introduced the causes, applicable conditions, and application scope of the CHAID algorithm, and then highlight the differences in the branching principles between the CHAID algorithm and several other common decision tree algorithms, which is the first step towards performing a basic analysis of CHAID algorithm. We next employed an actual branching case to help us better understand the CHAID algorithm. Specifically, we used vehicle customer satisfaction data to compare multiple decision tree algorithms and cited some factors that affect the accuracy and some corresponding countermeasures that are more conducive to obtaining accurate results. The results showed that CHAID can analyze the data very well and reliably detect significantly correlated factors. This paper presents the information required to understand the CHAID algorithm, thereby enabling better choices when the use of decision tree algorithms is warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

27. Ratiometric detection of I− using a dysprosium-based metal–organic framework with a single emission center.

In this study, a dysprosium-based metal–organic framework (MOF) sensor (Dy-MOF) was developed for the ratiometric detection of I− in aqueous medium. Upon excitation at 230 nm, Dy-MOF shows two dominant emission bands at 464 nm and 574 nm assigned to (4F, 4D)5/2 → 6H9/2 + 6F11/2 and 4F9/2 → 6H13/2 transition of Dy3+, respectively, which have different sensitivities toward iodide ions. The introduction of I− slightly weakened the blue emission at 464 nm and significantly quenched the yellow emission at 574 nm. Thus, ratiometric sensing for iodide was realized using the yellow-to-blue intensity ratio of Dy3+. Dy-MOF exhibits superior sensing behavior towards I− with high selectivity, sensitivity and low detection limit (24 nM). This study also provides a strategy for the construction of a ratiometric sensor with dual-emission bands originating from only one emission center. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Macrophages are highly heterogeneous and exhibit a diversity of functions and phenotypes. They can be divided into pro‐inflammatory macrophages (M1) and anti‐inflammatory macrophages (M2). Diabetic wounds are characterized by a prolonged inflammatory phase and difficulty in healing due to the accumulation of pro‐inflammatory (M1) macrophages in the wound. Therefore, hydrogel dressings with macrophage heterogeneity regulation function hold great promise in promoting diabetic wound healing in clinical applications. However, the precise conversion of pro‐inflammatory M1 to anti‐inflammatory M2 macrophages by simple and biosafe approaches is still a great challenge. Here, an all‐natural hydrogel with the ability to regulate macrophage heterogeneity is developed to promote angiogenesis and diabetic wound healing. The protocatechuic aldehyde hybridized collagen‐based all‐natural hydrogel exhibits good bioadhesive and antibacterial properties as well as reactive oxygen species scavenging ability. More importantly, the hydrogel is able to convert M1 macrophages into M2 macrophages without the need for any additional ingredients or external intervention. This simple and safe immunomodulatory approach shows great application potential for shortening the inflammatory phase of diabetic wound repair and accelerating wound healing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Seismic liquefaction affects badly the safety of the underground structures. For the dynamic responses of the tunnel in liquefied watered sandy stratum in one of the rail transit projects in Shanghai, this paper proposes a tunnel-foundation shaking table model test and analyses the dynamic responses of electrolytic desaturation technology on surrounding soil, which provides some theoretical guidance for seismic designs of Shanghai rail transit projects. The test result shows that the excess pore pressure ratio of soil decreases gradually with the increase of buried depth; sand is easier to liquefy than silt so the tunnel liquefaction and uplift during the sandy section should be paid more attention to; electrolytic desaturation technology works significantly on improving the liquefaction resistance abilities of sand and silt which can effectively reduce the damage caused by tunnel uplift due to seismic liquefaction. This study investigates the dynamic response of tunnels crossing liquefiable layers, with a focus on the Chongming Line Project of Shanghai Rail Transit. Through numerical analysis using Plaxis2D geotechnical simulation software, the study shows that the UBC3D-PLM constitutive model effectively simulates pore pressure dynamic response in liquefiable layers. Furthermore, the study finds that drainage pile reinforcement on both sides of the tunnel limits liquefaction of liquefiable soil under dynamic load. The rate of EPR accumulation accelerates and the time to reach the peak of EPR ratio shortens with increasing dynamic load intensity. However, the accumulation growth pattern of EPR ratio in liquefiable soil layers remains the same after the dynamic load intensity reaches a certain threshold. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To explore the long-term visual quality of the same subjects after sub-Bowman keratomileusis (SBK) or femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK). Methods: This prospective study included patients screened for corneal refractive surgery at the Refractive Surgery Center of our Hospital between November 2017 and March 2018. One eye underwent SBK, while the other eye underwent FS-LASIK. Total higher-order aberrations, coma aberrations, and clover aberrations were evaluated before and at 1 month and 3 years after the procedure. The visual satisfaction of both eyes was investigated, respectively. The participants completed a surgical satisfaction questionnaire. Results: Thirty-three patients were included. There were no significant differences in total higher-order aberrations, coma aberrations, and clover aberrations between the two procedures before and 1 month and 3 years after surgery (all P > 0.05), except for the total coma aberrations in FS-LASIK were significantly higher compared with the SBK group at 1 month after surgery [0.51 (0.18, 0.93) vs. 0.77 (0.40, 1.22), P = 0.019]. The surgical satisfaction questionnaire scores of the SBK group and the FS-LASIK group were 9.8 ± 0.8 and 9.8 ± 0.8, respectively, at 1 month, and 9.7 ± 0.9 and 9.7 ± 1.0, respectively, at 3 years (all P > 0.05). Conclusion: There were no differences in corneal aberrations and satisfaction between SBK and FS-LASIK procedures at 1 month and 3 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Efficient droplet shedding from surfaces is fundamentally interesting and important due to its promising potential in numerous applications, such as anti-erosion, anti-icing, and self-cleaning. In this work, the bouncing dynamics of the head-on impact of two nanodroplets on superhydrophobic surfaces are investigated through molecular dynamics simulations. Three bouncing patterns, including regular-coalescence-bouncing, coalescence-hole-bouncing, and ring-bouncing, are identified at a wide range of impacting Weber numbers. For three bouncing patterns, the time evolutions of the spreading factors and the vertical velocity components are employed to analyze the particular dynamic behaviors and elucidate the underlying physics. As a counter-intuitive bouncing pattern, the ring-bouncing that two impact nanodroplets coalesce, spread, and then leave the surface in a ring shape without retracting exhibits a remarkable reduction in contact time by up to 60%. Considering four typical states for the ring-bouncing pattern, the comparison of the velocity distribution within the droplet clearly reveals that the ring-shaped droplet reshapes interfaces, which leads to a special hydrodynamics distribution. As a result, the internal flows at the inner and outer edges along the opposite direction collide with each other, leading to a sudden increase in the upward velocity. Combining the largely decreased contact area between solid and liquid with the small surface adhesion, the ring-shaped droplet rapidly bounces off the surface at the maximum spreading state. Finally, it is significantly highlighted that the ring-bouncing pattern offers a new avenue to break the contact time limit for efficient droplet shedding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The digital economy is integral in driving economic growth, particularly of high-quality standards. Against the backdrop of the ''Double Carbon'' project, exploring the impact of the digital economy on green agricultural development bears tremendous practical significance. Thus, this study aims to investigate how the digital economy affects agricultural green total factor productivity (GTFP). The entropy-TOPSIS method and SBM-GML index are used to measure core variables quantitatively. In addition, two-way fixed effects panel data models, Tobit, and intermediary effect models are implemented. Three research findings emerge. First, China's agricultural GTFP level generally experiences an upward trend, and the development of the digital economy has a significant positive effect on increasing agricultural GTFP. Second, the digital economy mainly promotes agricultural technology innovation that boosts agricultural GTFP. Third, Western China experiences a more significant positive effect of the digital economy on agricultural GTFP than Central and Eastern China. Background: Understanding the relationship between human evolution and environmental changes is the key to lifting the veil on human origin. The hypothesis that environmental changes triggered the divergence of humans from apes (ca. 9.3–6.5 million years ago, Ma) has been poorly tested because of limited continuous environmental data from fossil localities. Lufengpithecus (12.5-6.0 Ma) found on the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau (SEMTP) across the ape–human split provides a good chance for testing this hypothesis. Results: Here, we reconstructed the habitats of L. keiyuanensis (12.5–11.6 Ma) with comprehensive vegetation, climate, and potential food web data by palaeobotanical evidence, together with other multidisciplinary data and partly tested the environment-driven hypothesis by revealing the living conditions of Lufengpithecus. Conclusion: A detailed comparison of hominoids on different continents reveals their behaviour and fate divergence across the ape–human split against the background of global climate change, i.e., the stable living conditions of SEMTP not only provided a so-called 'refuge' for arboreal Lufengpithecus but also acted as a 'double-edged sword', preventing their further evolution while vegetation shifts in East Africa probably stimulated the emergence of human bipedalism, and the intense climatic changes in Europe possibly prevented those hominoids from surviving that time interval. Detection of Fe(III) and Cu(II) in water is highly desirable because their abnormal levels can cause serious harm to human health and environmental safety. In this work, a ratiometric luminescence sensing platform based on lanthanide-based silica nanoparticles was constructed for the detection of Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions. The terbium-silica nanoparticles (named SiO2@Tb) with dual-emission signals were successfully prepared by grafting Tb3+ ions onto trimellitic anhydride (TMA) functionalized silica nanospheres. It can serve as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for the detection of Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions in water with the green emission of Tb3+ ions as a response signal and the blue emission of silica nanospheres as the reference signal. Significantly, an easy-to-differentiate color change for visual detection was also realized. SiO2@Tb shows high sensitivity even in very low concentration regions towards the sensing of Fe3+ and Cu2+ with low detection limits of 0.75 μM and 0.91 μM, respectively. Moreover, the mechanism for the luminescence quenching of SiO2@Tb was systematically investigated, and was attributed to the synergetic effect of the absorption competition quenching (ACQ) mechanism and cation exchange. This study demonstrates that SiO2@Tb can be employed as a promising fluorescent probe for the detection of Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions, and the combination of lanthanide ions with silica nanoparticles is an effective strategy to construct a ratiometric fluorescent sensing platform for the determination of analytes in environmental detection. Summary: Buckwheat is an important crop which originated in China and spread widely across Eurasia. However, exactly where in China domestication took place remains controversial. Archaeological and palynological records suggest a longer cultivation history of buckwheat in northern China than in southwestern China, but this conflicts with phylogenetic evidence implicating southwestern China as the centre of origin and diversity of buckwheat.We investigate alternative methodologies for inferring the occurrence of buckwheat cultivation and suggest that relative abundance could provide a reliable measure for distinguishing between wild and cultivated buckwheat in both present‐day and fossil samples.Approximately 12 800‐yr palaeoecological record shows that Fagopyrum pollen occurred only infrequently before the early Holocene. As southwestern China entered the early agricultural period, c. 8000–7000 yr ago, a slight increase in abundance of Fagopyrum pollen was observed. Approximately 4000 yr ago, concurrent with the Pu minority beginning to develop dry‐land agriculture, the abundance of Fagopyrum pollen increased significantly, suggesting the cultivation of this crop. Fagopyrum pollen rose to a maximum value c. 1270 yr ago, suggesting an intensification of agricultural activity.These findings fill a gap in the Fagopyrum pollen record in southwestern China and provide new indications that early cultivation may have occurred in this region. This work investigates the retraction and bouncing dynamics of an impacting low-viscosity nanodroplet on superhydrophobic surfaces via molecular dynamics simulations, aiming to reveal the scaling laws of retraction and bouncing velocities and to establish the relationship between them. The retraction velocity, Vre, is found to scale as Vre ∼ Dmax/τc,n, where Dmax is the maximum spreading diameter, τc,n = (D0/V0)We1/2Oh1/3 is the inertial-capillary-viscous time, and We and Oh are the Weber number and Ohnesorge number, respectively. The bouncing stems from the collision of the retracting rim at the center of the nanodroplet, leading to the bouncing velocity scaling as the retraction velocity. Combining the relationship of Vre ∼ Dmax/τc,n with the scaling law of Dmax ∼ We1/2Oh1/3D0 yields both the retraction and bouncing velocities scaling as the impact velocity, indicating that both the retraction and bouncing velocities of low-viscosity nanodroplets on a superhydrophobic surface depend merely on the impact velocity. An energy analysis shows that the proportion of the surface energy at the maximum spreading state (Es,max) to the initial kinetic energy (Ek,ini) follows Es,max/Ek,ini ∼ Oh2/3, whereas the proportion of the bouncing kinetic energy (Ek,b) to the surface energy at the maximum spreading state follows Ek,b/Es,max ∼ Oh−2/3, leading to constant Ek,b/Ek,ini and also constant restitution coefficient for low-viscosity nanodroplets impacting superhydrophobic surfaces. l -Methionine biosynthesis is through multilevel regulated and multibranched biosynthetic pathway (MRMBP). Because of the complex regulatory mechanism and the imbalanced metabolic flux between branched pathways, microbial production of l -methionine has not been commercialized. In this study, local metabolic response in MRMBP of l -methionine was investigated and various crucial genes in branched pathways were determined. In l -serine pathway, the crucial gene was serABC. In O -succinyl homoserine (OSH) pathway, which was the C4 backbone of l -methionine, metB and metL controlled the metabolic flux jointly. In l -cysteine pathway, the crucial gene cysE fbr could disturb the flux distribution of local network in l -methionine biosynthesis. However, no crucial gene for l -methionine production in 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate (CH 3 -THF) pathway was found. The relation between these pathways was also researched. l -Serine pathway, as the upstream pathway of l -cysteine and CH 3 -THF, played a crucial role in l -methionine biosynthesis. l -Cysteine pathway showed the strongest controlling force of the metabolic flux, and OSH pathway was second to l -cysteine pathway. In contrast, CH 3 -THF pathway was the weakest, which was probably the mainly limited steps at present and had great potential in further research. In addition, constructed W3110 IJAHFEBC/pA∗HAmL was able to produce 2.62 g/L l -methionine in flask. This study is instructive for l -methionine biosynthesis and provides a new research method of biosynthesizing other metabolic products in MRMBPs. As a new advanced material, silicon carbon fiber-reinforced silicon carbon ceramic matrix composite has attracted increasing attention and would have a promising application in prospect owing to its superior properties such as low density, high strength, and high-temperature resistance. However, there is still no such standard criterion for machined surface quality evaluation of fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composites or fiber-reinforced composites. Thus, in this paper, investigations have been performed on ultrasonic vibration-assisted milling-grinding SiC fiber-reinforced SiC-based ceramic matrix composite. It aims to propose a primary criterion for the machined surface assessment of fiber-reinforced composites. This study considered and tested fiber-reinforced composites such as SiC f /SiC CMC, C f /SiC CMC, and CFRP. Due to the large size of pits and voids in the machined surface, it was recommended to use non-contact measuring equipment for surface quality measurement. The 2D surface roughness value of every single machined surface differed much along different measuring directions and regions. Then, the 3D surface roughness was suggested for describing the machined surface quality as its data fluctuation was much more minor than the 2D roughness. The comparative analysis found that the measuring area size significantly influenced the 3D roughness result. This study used a measuring area of 13 × 13 mm2, 11 × 11 mm2, 7 × 7 mm2 for SiC f /SiC CMC, C f /SiC CMC, and CFRP, respectively, taking into consideration the measuring time consumption and the reliability of measured data. People differ considerably in the extent to which they benefit from working memory (WM) training. Although there is increasing research focusing on individual differences associated with WM training outcomes, we still lack an understanding of which specific individual differences, and in what combination, contribute to interindividual variations in training trajectories. In the current study, 568 undergraduates completed one of several N-back intervention variants over the course of two weeks. Participants' training trajectories were clustered into three distinct training patterns (high performers, intermediate performers, and low performers). We applied machinelearning algorithms to train a binary tree model to predict individuals' training patterns relying on several individual difference variables that have been identified as relevant in previous literature. These individual difference variables included pre-existing cognitive abilities, personality characteristics, motivational factors, video game experience, health status, bilingualism, and socioeconomic status. We found that our classification model showed good predictive power in distinguishing between high performers and relatively lower performers. Furthermore, we found that openness and pre-existing WM capacity to be the two most important factors in distinguishing between high and low performers. However, among low performers, openness and video game background were the most significant predictors of their learning persistence. In conclusion, it is possible to predict individual training performance using participant characteristics before training, which could inform the development of personalized interventions. Consistent with research across several domains, intervention adherence is associated with desired outcomes. Our study investigates adherence, defined by participants' commitment to, persistence with, and compliance with an intervention's regimen, as a key mechanism underlying cognitive training effectiveness. We examine this relationship in a large and diverse sample comprising 4,775 adults between the ages of 18 and 93. We test the predictive validity of individual difference factors, such as age, gender, cognitive capability (i.e., fluid reasoning and working memory), grit, ambition, personality, self-perceived cognitive failures, socioeconomic status, exercise, and education on commitment to and persistence with a 20-session cognitive training regimen, as measured by the number of sessions completed. Additionally, we test the relationship between compliance measures: (i) spacing between training sessions, as measured by the average time between training sessions, and (ii) consistency in the training schedule, as measured by the variance in time between training sessions, with performance trajectories on the training task. Our data suggest that none of these factors reliably predict commitment to, persistence with, or compliance with cognitive training. Nevertheless, the lack of evidence from the large and representative sample extends the knowledge from previous research exploring limited, heterogenous samples, characterized by older adult populations. The absence of reliable predictors for commitment, persistence, and compliance in cognitive training suggests that nomothetic factors may affect program adherence. Future research will be well served to examine diverse approaches to increasing motivation in cognitive training to improve program evaluation and reconcile the inconsistency in findings across the field. In this study, the validity of our DFT-based self-developed JunPy+SOT calculation method has been rigorously confirmed by the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) induced effective magnetic anisotropy field of 5.6 kOe in a 1.5 nm-thick iron thin film. The angular dependence of the magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) and the total spin-orbit torque (SOT) indicate the uniaxial PMA corresponding to the out-of-plane rotations of the magnetization. Our results agree with the conventional MAE calculation but provide deeper insights into atomistic spin dynamics of local magnetic moments. The main advantage of this method is that the well-decomposed layer-resolved SOT and SOC-dominated spin current accumulation, which exhibit maximum magnitude but opposite sign at the surface, provide comprehensive physical understanding in angular momentum transfer between spin and orbital, competition between SOT and spin current accumulation, and precise spin torque acting on each local magnetic moment that is crucial for the atomistic spin dynamics especially in magnetic heterostructures. Ciliates are microbial eukaryotes that undergo extensive programmed genome rearrangement, a natural genome editing process that converts long germline chromosomes into smaller gene-rich somatic chromosomes. Three well-studied ciliates include Oxytricha trifallax, Tetrahymena thermophila, and Paramecium tetraurelia, but only the Oxytricha lineage has a massively scrambled genome, whose assembly during development requires hundreds of thousands of precisely programmed DNA joining events, representing the most complex genome dynamics of any known organism. Here we study the emergence of such complex genomes by examining the origin and evolution of discontinuous and scrambled genes in the Oxytricha lineage. This study compares six genomes from three species, the germline and somatic genomes for Euplotes woodruffi, Tetmemena sp., and the model ciliate O. trifallax. We sequenced, assembled, and annotated the germline and somatic genomes of E. woodruffi, which provides an outgroup, and the germline genome of Tetmemena sp. We find that the germline genome of Tetmemena is as massively scrambled and interrupted as Oxytricha's: 13.6% of its gene loci require programmed translocations and/or inversions, with some genes requiring hundreds of precise gene editing events during development. This study revealed that the earlier diverged spirotrich, E. woodruffi, also has a scrambled genome, but only roughly half as many loci (7.3%) are scrambled. Furthermore, its scrambled genes are less complex, together supporting the position of Euplotes as a possible evolutionary intermediate in this lineage, in the process of accumulating complex evolutionary genome rearrangements, all of which require extensive repair to assemble functional coding regions. Comparative analysis also reveals that scrambled loci are often associated with local duplications, supporting a gradual model for the origin of complex, scrambled genomes via many small events of DNA duplication and decay. Objectives: Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a heterogeneous hematopoietic stem cell disorder with thrombocytopenia. Flow cytometric immunophenotyping of blood cells has been instrumental in diagnosis as co-criteria, but the data regarding platelets remains lacking. This study aims to determine if there is a difference in surface antigen levels on platelets by comparing surface antigen levels in MDS patients and healthy control subjects. Concurrently, as flow cytometric gating can reveal the diameter of cells, this study will investigate differences in giant platelet percentage by comparing these percentages in high- and low-risk MDS patients. Study design: Twenty newly diagnosed MDS patients were enrolled in this study. Platelet surface antigen levels were determined by measuring the binding capacity of antibodies with flow cytometry. Results: Platelets of MDS patients were shown to have a lower level of CD61 and higher levels of CD31 and CD36 than healthy controls. Judged by forward scatter (FSC), MDS patients' platelets appeared to be larger than those of healthy control subjects, whereas the MFI adjusted by diameter (MFI/FSC ratio) of CD31, CD41a, CD42a, CD42b and CD61 on platelets were lower in MDS patients than in healthy control subjects. There was a significant quantity of giant platelets found in MDS patients, and the high-risk MDS patients tended to have a higher percentage of giant platelets than low-risk patients. Conclusions: All the results indicate that MDS patients exhibit a lower antigen presentation (MFI) adjusted by diameter on platelets than healthy controls and the giant platelets detected by flow cytometry might correlate with the condition of MDS. Background: Compromised intestinal barrier integrity can be independently driven by hyperglycemia, and both hyperglycemia and intestinal barrier injury are associated with poor prognosis in critical illness. This study investigated the intestinal barrier biomarkers in critically ill patients, to explore the role of compromised intestinal barrier integrity on the prognosis of critically ill patients with pre-existing hyperglycemia. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study. The relationships between intestinal barrier biomarkers and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG), indicators of clinical characteristics, disease severity, and prognosis in critically ill patients were investigated. Then the metrics mentioned above were compared between survivors and non-survivors, the risk factors of 90-day mortality were investigated by logistic regression analysis. Further, patients were divided into HbA1c < 6.5% Group and HbA1c ≥ 6.5% Group, metrics mentioned above were compared between these two groups. Results: A total of 109 patients with critical illness were included in the study. D-lactate and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) were associated with sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score and 90-day mortality. LPS was an independent risk factor of 90-day mortality. DAO, NEU (neutrophil) proportion, temperature, lactate were lower in HbA1c ≥ 6.5% Group while D-lactate, LPS, indicators of disease severity and prognosis showed no statistical difference between HbA1c < 6.5% Group and HbA1c ≥ 6.5% Group. Conclusions: Intestinal barrier integrity is associated with the disease severity and prognosis in critical illness. Compromised intestinal barrier integrity might be responsible for the poor prognosis in critically ill patients with pre-existing hyperglycemia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fuzheng Huayu's (FZHY) formula ameliorated liver fibrosis in clinical and experimental practice. Based on the close link between fibrosis and inflammation, its anti-inflammatory effect and related mechanisms were explored in this present study. With the aid of the inflammatory macrophage model, FZHY significantly blocked nitrite accumulation without observable cytotoxicity due to its suppression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) gene and protein expressions in a concentration-depended manner. Proinflammatory mediators including IL-6, CD86, and CD40 were also restrained by FZHY. Interestingly, FZHY induced anti-inflammatory mediators heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) expressions simultaneously. Downregulation of iNOS and miR-155 and upregulation of PPAR-γ were also observed in CCl4-induced liver fibrosis mice upon FZHY administration. Mechanically, FZHY strikingly eliminated the phosphorylation of STAT1 and MAPK. Taken together, FZYH regulated the balance of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators partially via modulating STAT1/MAPK pathways and the miR-155/PPAR-γ axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

49. Clinical Study of Intraoperative Microelectrode Recordings during Awake and Asleep Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Our objective is to analyze the difference of microelectrode recording (MER) during awake and asleep subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) for Parkinson's disease (PD) and the necessity of MER during "Asleep DBS" under general anesthesia (GA). The differences in MER, target accuracy, and prognosis under different anesthesia methods were analyzed. Additionally, the MER length was compared with the postoperative electrode length by electrode reconstruction and measurement. The MER length of two groups was 5.48 ± 1.39 mm in the local anesthesia (LA) group and 4.38 ± 1.43 mm in the GA group, with a statistical significance between the two groups (p < 0.01). The MER length of the LA group was longer than its postoperative electrode length (p < 0.01), however, there was no significant difference between the MER length and postoperative electrode length in the GA group (p = 0.61). There were also no significant differences in the postoperative electrode length, target accuracy, and postoperative primary and secondary outcome scores between the two groups (p > 0.05). These results demonstrate that "Asleep DBS" under GA is comparable to "Awake DBS" under LA. GA has influences on MER during surgery, but typical STN discharges can still be recorded. 50. An experimental study on mechanical behavior of nylon fabric laminated rubber bearings.

Five samples of the nylon fabric laminated rubber bearing were manufactured with different rubber layer thickness and nylon cloth specifications. The compression and compression shear tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties of the bearings. Results show the novel bearings' vertical stiffness is significantly lower than that of laminated steel rubber bearings, but their vertical damping ratio can reach 7%. The effective horizontal stiffness decreases with increasing shear strain due to rollover deformation. The bearings do not get seriously damaged when the shear strain is 300%. The equivalent damping ratio of the bearings varies in the range of 9%–13%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
