This paper aims to model the volatility of returns for selected stock indices and examine the causal relationships between the markets using the historical daily prices of the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE), Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI), the Indonesia Stock Exchange Index (LQ45), and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) from January 2008 to November 2019. The study employs univariate GARCH models that are prominent in capturing the volatility clustering of financial instruments in association with the Box–Jenkins methodology for better estimation. Generally, the ARMA-GARCH model is used to capture the volatility series, while the Granger causality test examines the causal directions between the markets. The findings revealed leverage effects on the markets, with the outperformance of the EGARCH in analyzing the empirical properties of stock returns. An initial test that yielded positive correlations suggests the existence of co-movement between the derived volatility series. The study concluded bidirectional causal relationships between the selected markets, and based on the resulting relationships, it is proposed that supervision of markets among the ASEAN members could be advantageous in predicting the corresponding market performance.

Electronic health record system is crucial to promote health awareness in the rural remote places in Sarawak. It is able to record and monitor the personal health of each community member without being their physically. However, into what extends the EHR technology is relevant and applicable to rural communities in Borneo, Sarawak. This paper reviews the current EHR technologies in related to constraints environment within rural areas of Borneo, Sarawak. Work had been done to introduce an electronic health record system, Sympulse, to rural community, Sarawak two years ago. Although the project is pending due to some financial difficulties, we argue that the current EHR technologies are still inadequate to work in constraints environment. In this paper, requirements of a constraint based EHR system are reported. This is followed by details analysis and comparison of the proposed EHR system with others state of the art EHR technologies. From the findings, some research challenge and directions are elaborated. It can be served as a guideline to design and develop a constraint based EHR system.

Team working is becoming increasingly important in modern organizations due to its beneficial outcomes. A team's performance levels are determined by complex interactions between the attributes of its individual members, the communication and dynamics between members, the working environment, and the team's work tasks. As organizations evolve, so too does the nature of team working. During the past two decades, product development in engineering organizations has increasingly been undertaken by multidisciplinary integrated product teams. Such increasing complexity means that the nature of research methods for studying teams must also evolve. Accordingly, this paper proposes an agent-based modeling approach for simulating team working within an engineering environment, informed by research conducted in two engineering organizations. The model includes a number of variables at an individual level (competency, motivation, availability, response rate), team level (communication, shared mental models, trust), and task level (difficulty, workflow), which jointly determine team performance (quality, time to complete the task, time spent working on the task). In addition to describing the model's development, the paper also reports the results of various simulation runs that were conducted in response to realistic team working scenarios, together with its validation. Finally, the paper discusses the model's practical applications as a tool for facilitating organizational decision making with respect to optimizing team working.

The implementation of an enterprise-level business intelligence initiative is a large-scale and complex undertaking, involving significant expenditure and multiple stakeholders over a lengthy period. It is therefore imperative to have systematic guidelines for business intelligence stakeholders in referring business intelligence maturity levels. Draw upon the prudent concepts of the Capability Maturity Model, this research proposes a multi-dimensional maturity model with distinct maturity levels for managing enterprise business intelligence initiatives. The maturity model, named Enterprise Business Intelligence Maturiy (EBIM), consists of five core maturity levels and four key dimensions, namely information quality, master data management, warehousing architecture, and analytics. It can be used to assist enterprises in benchmarking their business intelligence maturity level and identifying the critical areas to attain higher level of maturity.

A business intelligence architecture comprises of different unique components to collect, transform, analyze and present the structured and unstructured raw data in simple formats to assist decision makers in making timely decisions. The introduction of service-oriented architecture (SOA) enables reusable services which are accessible over a network on demand. However, there is still a lack of academic literatures on the business intelligence architecture with service-oriented concept. Based upon various references on BI architectures from major vendors, a novel BI architecture that is built on service-oriented concept is presented and described in this paper. The proposed service-oriented architecture enables enterprises to deploy a more agile, flexible, cheaper, reusable, reliable and responsive BI applications in supporting decision making process.

The interactions between individual designers, within integrated product teams, and the nature of design tasks, all have a significant impact upon how well a design task can be performed, and hence the quality of the resultant product and the time in which it can be delivered. In this paper we describe an ongoing research project which aims to model integrated product teams through the use of multi-agent systems. We first describe the background and rationale for our work, and then present our initial computational model and results from the simulation of an integrated product team. The paper concludes with a discussion of how the model will evolve to improve the accuracy of the simulation.

This paper considers an agent-based approach to organizational modeling within the engineering design domain. It is widely recognized that interactions between individual designers, between (and within) integrated product teams (IPTs), together with the nature of design tasks have a significant impact upon how well a task can be performed, and hence the quality of the resultant product. In order for organizations to gain a full understanding of design team interactions within IPTs, we propose the use of multi-agent systems to model the behaviors and cognitions of team members, and to explore the applicability of different agent-theoretic approaches that could augment current team practices. In this paper we discuss the background to the work and the identifications of individual, and team variables. The paper concludes by discussing the computational model of a small IPT, which has been implemented using JADE, and the initial results are presented.

A model of learning transactions is offered for use in the development of e-learning materials and toolkits. The model identifies the key components required for effective learning, and in doing so, helps the development team ensure the provision of these components to the teacher or learner.

A methodology for e-learning systems engineering is offered for use in the development of e-learning materials. The methodology draws upon the practices of software engineering to identify the key stages and steps required for the development of effective e-learning materials.

This paper presents an approach to locating an expert through the use of existing organizational information. This approach was realised through an Expert Finder framework developed by the authors. The framework enables the relationships of heterogeneous information sources to experts to be factored in to the modelling of an individuals’ expertise. The framework also provides an architecture that can be easily adapted to different organizations. The framework has been applied to a real world application and been evaluated using the notions of precision and recall.
