The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between depression, stress and anxiety experienced during the COVID-19 global epidemic and emotional eating. Quantitative research method and relational survey model was used in this study. The study group of this research consists 342 volunteer social work students who are active in formal education and distance education due to the COVID-19 global epidemic. As a data collection tool; Personal information form created by the researchers, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Inventory (DASS) and Turkish Emotional Eating Inventory (TDRI) were used. The data were evaluated in the SPSS 21.0 program. The majority of the participants are women and continue their undergraduate education. As a result of the analyzes; Participants had moderate depression, moderate anxiety and normal stress levels and a moderately positive and significant relationship was found between stress, anxiety and depression and emotional eating. In addition, it was founded that depression, stress and anxiety explained of the change in emotional eating 29.3%. In addition, it was observed that female participants had higher mean scores on eating in case of stress, anxiety, tension, eating to cope with negative emotions, and control against stimuli than male participants. As a result of the research, it has been proposed to develop public health strategies that will reduce negative emotional states such as fear, anxiety, stress, depression and anxietude during the COVID 19 global epidemic and prevent emotional eating, which is seen as one of the strategies to cope with these emotions., Bu araştırmanın amacı, COVID-19 küresel salgını sürecinde yaşanan depresyon, stres ve anksiyete ile duygusal yeme arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Nicel araştırma yöntemi benimsenen bu araştırmada ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu; örgün eğitimde aktif olan, COVID-19 küresel salgını nedeniyle uzaktan eğitim gören gönüllü toplam 342 sosyal hizmet öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak; araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan kişisel bilgi formu, Depresyon, Anksiyete ve Stres Ölçeği (DASS) ve Türkçe Duygusal Yeme Ölçeği (TDYE) kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 21.0 programında değerlendirilmiştir. Katılımcıların çoğunluğu kadın olup lisans eğitimine devam etmektedir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda; katılımcıların orta depresyon, orta anksiyete ve normal stres düzeylerine sahip olduğu ve stres, anksiyete ve depresyon ile duygusal yeme arasında orta düzeyde pozitif anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Buna ek olarak, duygusal yeme değişiminin %29,3’ünü depresyon, stres ve anksiyetenin açıkladığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca kadın katılımcıların stres, anksiyete, gerginlik durumunda yeme, olumsuz duygularla başa çıkabilme için yeme ve uyaran karşısında kontrol puan ortalamalarının erkek katılımcılardan daha yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırma sonucunda, COVİD 19 küresel salgını sürecinde korku, anksiyete, stres, depresyon ve kaygı gibi negatif duygu durumlarını azaltacak ve bu duygular ile baş etme stratejilerinden biri olarak görülen duygusal yemeyi önleyecek halk sağlığı stratejilerinin geliştirilmesi önerilmiştir.

Bu fenomenolojik araştırmanın amacı, kronik üveit hastalığı olan çocuğa sahip ebeveynlerin Covid-19 Pandemisi döneminde çocuklarının hastalık durumu ve tedavi sürecine ilişkin yaşam deneyimlerini görünür kılmaktır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu çalışmada fenomenolojik desenden yararlanmıştır. Çalışmaya, kronik üveit hastalığı tanısı konulup, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı’nda tedavileri devam eden 10 çocuğun 15 ebeveyni katılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak sosyo-demografik bilgi formu ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi tekniği kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sürecinde maxqda analiz programı kullanılmıştır. Bu süreçte 4 tema ve 12 kategori oluşturulmuştur. Ebeveynlerin Covid-19 Pandemisi sürecindeki yaşam deneyimlerinde, psiko-sosyal ve ekonomik sorunlar yaşanması, sağlık hizmetlerine erişememe, çocuğunun Covid-19’a yakalanması ve sağlık durumunun kötüleşmesi, gibi endişe ve kaygıların artığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu sonuçlar çerçevesinde ailelere ekonomik ve psiko-sosyal desteğin sağlanılması, çocuklarının sağlık hizmetlerinden etkin bir şekilde yararlanabilmeleri için sağlık hizmetlerine erişiminin kolaylaştırılması önemlidir.

Otizm, sosyal yetenek, sosyal aktivite, iletişim ve hayal gücündeki bozukluklar ile tekrarlayan kısıtlı davranış kalıplarıyla ilişkili nöro-gelişimsel bir bozukluktur. Son yıllarda otizmin küresel yaygınlığının artması otizmli bireyler ve ailelerini odak alan çalışmaların öneminin artmasına neden olmuştur. Zira otizm sadece bireyi değil başta ailesi daha sonra yakın çevresini etkileyen gelişimsel bir bozukluktur. Otizmli çocuğa sahip aileler birçok zorlukla karşı karşıyadırlar ve bu zorluklardan belki de en önemlisi olan finansal zorluklar ailelerin yaşadığı birçok zorlukla da doğrudan ilişkilidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı otizmli çocuğa sahip ailelerin tan, tedavi, eğitim, terapiler ve diğer hesap dışı harcamalar dolayısıyla karşı karşıya oldukları finansal zorluklara ilişkin deneyimlerini anlamaktır. Bu doğrultuda tıbbi olarak otizm tanısı almış 18 yaş altı bireylerin ebeveynleri ile nitel bir araştırma olarak tasarlanmıştır. Çalışmaya 20 ebeveyn ve otizm alanında çalışan farklı meslek elemanlarından 17 profesyonel katılmış ve kendileri ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formları aracılığıyla derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen verilen MAXQDA 2020 programı aracılığı ile analiz edilerek literatüre uygun ve anlaşılır bir dille açıklanmıştır. Aileler tanı, tedavi, eğitim ve rehabilitasyon harcamaları konusunda ciddi mali zorluklarla karşı karşıyadır. Bunlara ek olarak diyet ve diğer sağlık hizmetleriyle ilgili harcamalar aileleri finansal açıdan yıpratmaktadır.

WOS:000569098300002 PubMed: 33089080 Objectives: The outbreak of novel coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) has affected Turkey very seriously, as well as all around the world. Many urgent and radical measures were taken due to the high contagious risk and mortality rate of the outbreak. It is noteworthy that isolation recommendations and the provision of health services for pandemic have a negative impact on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) services. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 on the PMR services and physiatrists immediately after the first month of pandemic in Turkey. Patients and methods: An online survey consisting of 45 items was sent to the members of the Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The main goal of the survey was to evaluate the changes in the provided service of PMR and conditions of physiatrists one month after the first reported COVID-19 case in Turkey. Results: A total of 606 PMR specialists and residents responded to the survey. The mean number of the patients visited the outpatient clinics was 148.2 +/- 128.5 per week before the pandemic, it significantly decreased to 23.4 +/- 33.1 per week after the first month of the reported first COVID-19 case. Similarly, the mean number of the patients of inpatient service significantly decreased from 21.7 +/- 39.3 per week to 2.5 +/- 10.0 per week after the first month of the pandemic. Most of the residents (69%) reported that their training was seriously affected due to pandemic. From the economic aspect, 69.2% of the participants who were working at private hospitals reported a decrease in their monthly salary, and 21% of them were sent to an unpaid vacation. A total of 21.9% of private-practice institutions paused their services. During the first month, 46.9% of the participants were assigned to the different services such as COVID-19 inpatient service, emergency or COVID-19 outpatient clinics. According to the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Health guideline and algorithm, 15.7% of the physicians were in the category of healthcare workers with suspected COVID-19. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic affected seriously both the services and the PMR physicians as early as the first month. This effect is expected to become worse, when the duration of pandemic prolongs. Proper arrangements and measures should be planned to ameliorate the negative effects of the pandemic on the patients and PMR physicians.

Amaç: Sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunun, bel ağrısının önemli bir nedeni olabileceği bildirilmektedir. Bu çalışma, kronik bel ağrısı olan katılımcılarda sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunun araştırılması ve sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunun travma öyküsü ile ilişkisini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirildi. Yöntem: Çalışmaya 25-60 yıl yaş aralığında kronik bel ağrısı şikâyeti olan 323 katılımcı (189 kadın, 134 erkek; yaş=47,58±11,78 yıl) dahil edildi. Katılımcıların demografik bilgileri, travma/ düşme geçmişi kaydedildi. Ağrı şiddeti Görsel Analog Skalası (GAS) ile değerlendirildi. Sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunu değerlendirmek amacıyla eklem provokasyon ve hareketlilik testleri kullanıldı. Sonuçlar: Çalışmaya alınan katılımcıların 174’ünde (% 53,9) sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olduğu belirlendi. Travma/düşme geçmişinin, sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu görülme oranını olumsuz yönde etkilediği görüldü (p=0,001). Sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olan katılımcıların ağrı şiddeti, eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olmayanlara göre daha yüksek olarak bulundu (p=0,002). Tartışma: Çalışma sonuçlarımız, kronik bel ağrılı katılımcılarda sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu görülme oranının yüksek olduğunu ve eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olan katılımcıların daha şiddetli ağrı deneyimlediklerini gösterdi. Ayrıca, travma/düşme geçmişinin sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunu artırdığı sonucuna ulaşıldı. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of sacroiliac joint dysfunction in participants with chronic low back pain and to investigate the relationship between sacroiliac joint dysfunction and trauma history. Methods: Three hundred twenty-three participants with chronic low back pain, age between 25-60 years (189 females, 134 males; age=47.58±11.78 years) were included in the study. Demographic data, history of trauma/fall of the participants were recorded. Pain intensity was evaluated using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Joint provocation and mobility tests were used to evaluate sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Results: Sacroiliac joint dysfunction was detected in 174 (53.9%) of the participants included in the study. The history of trauma/fall was associated with a negative impact on the incidence of sacroiliac joint dysfunction (p=0.001). Pain severity of participants with sacroiliac joint dysfunction was higher than participants without joint dysfunction (p=0.002). Conclusion: Our results showed that participants with chronic low back pain had higher rates of sacroiliac joint dysfunction and participants with joint dysfunction experienced more severe pain. Trauma/fall history increases sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Patients with chronic low back pain should also be investigated in terms of sacroiliac joint dysfunction, and the treatment program should be planned accordingly.

Objective To investigate the comparative efficacy of electro-acupuncture when added to standard therapy in patients with Bell palsy in terms of clinical and neurophysiologic outcomes. Methods A total of 88 patients with Bell palsy who received standard treatment (ST group; n = 40, mean ± standard deviation age: 39.2 ± 6.6 years, 60.0% were males) or standard treatment plus electro-acupuncture (ST-EA group; n = 48, mean ± standard deviation age: 39.5 ± 6.9 years, 58.3% were males) were included. Data on patient demographics, symptoms, comorbidities, and 3-month outcomes on treatment response assessed via House-Brackmann grading system and facial nerve recovery profile and electromyography were recorded. Results Application of ST-EA versus ST was associated with a significantly higher rate of normal nerve function on 12th week electromyography (66.7% versus 25.0%, P = 0.020), higher frequency of patients with House-Brackmann grade ≤2 in the 3rd week (79.2% versus 45.0%, P = 0.029), 6th week (87.5% versus 45.0%, P = 0.004), and 12th week (95.8% versus 50.0%, P = 0.001), and those with facial nerve recovery profile scores ≥8 in the 6th week (83.3% versus 45.0%, P = 0.011) and 12th week (87.5% versus 50.0%, P = 0.009) of treatment. Conclusion In conclusion, our findings in patients with Bell palsy revealed superiority of electro-acupuncture added to standard therapy over standard therapy alone in terms of improvement of nerve dysfunction, decrease in paralysis severity, and better functional recovery. This seems to indicate the likelihood of electro-acupuncture to be a safe and promising adjunct in the achievement of more satisfactory clinical outcomes in the management of Bell palsy when used in combination with standard medical and physiotherapy.

Aile sahip olduğu işlevler nedeniyle her toplum için önemli bir kurum olmuştur ancak küresel ekonomik politikaların da etkisiyle günümüzde sayısız risklere maruz kalmaktadır. Alanda riski ailelerle birebir ve en fazla hane görüşmesi yapan saha çalışanlarından birisi olarak Aile Sosyal Destek Programı (ASDEP) çalışanları ön plana çıkmaktadır. Aynı zamanda Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler Bakanlığının (ASHB) psikososyal destek konusunda arz odaklı hizmetlerini yürüten ve bu alanda Türkiye’de benzeri bulunmayan bir sosyal hizmet uygulamasıdır. Araştırmamızın temel amacı Türkiye’de risk altındaki ailelerin psikososyal destek ihtiyaçlarına yönelik ASDEP çalışanlarının deneyimlerinden faydalanarak mevcut durumu ortaya koymaktır. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu çalışmada fenomenolojik desenden yararlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda araştırma kapsamında her bölgeyi temsil eden en az bir kişi olacak şekilde 6 kadın ve 5 erkek olmak üzere 11 ASDEP görevlisi ile derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilerek veriler toplanmıştır. Genellikle ASDEP personelleri; personel yetersizliğinden, iş tanımlarının net olmamasından, iş yoğunluğunun fazlalığından, ASDEP harici işlerde çalıştırıldıklarından, müracaatçı ile güven ilişkisi kurmanın zorluğundan, hizmet içi eğitim yetersizliğinden, ASDEP kapsamında sorulan bazı soruların gereksiz olduğundan, oturmuş bir sistem olmadığından ve arz odaklı hane ziyaretlerinin olumsuzluklarından şikâyet etmektedir. Ayrıca psikososyal desteğin bir görüşmeyle verilmesinin mümkün olmayacağı düşüncesinden hareketle tekrarlı ziyaretlerin önemli olduğu da katılımcılar tarafından vurgulanmıştır., The family has been an important institution for every society due to its functions, but with the effect of global economic policies, it is exposed to numerous risks today. Employees of Family Social Support Program (ASDEP) come to the fore as one of the field workers whose risk is one-on-one with families and who make the most household interviews. At the same time, it is a social service application that carries out the supply-oriented services of the Ministry of Family and Social Services (ASHB) on psychosocial support and is unique in Turkey in this field. The main purpose of our research is to reveal the current situation by making use of the experiences of ASDEP staff regarding the psychosocial support needs of families at risk in Turkey. In this study, in which qualitative research method was used, phenomenological design was used. In this context, data were collected by conducting in-depth interviews with 11 ASDEP employees, 6 women and 5 men, with at least one person representing each region within the scope of the research. Usually ASDEP employees are complainining abouth lack of personnel, the unclear job descriptions, the excessive workload, the difficulty of establishing a trusting relationship with the client, the lack of in-service training, the unnecessaryness of some of the questions asked within the scope of ASDEP, the lack of an established system, the negativities of supply-oriented household visits. In addition, it was emphasized by the participants that repeated visits were important, considering that it would not be possible to provide psychosocial support with a single interview.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the physical and emotional effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) and chronic low back pain (CLBP) patients. Patients and methods: The cross-sectional controlled study was performed with 1,360 participants (332 males, 1,028 females; mean age: 42.3±12.5 years; range, 18 to 65 years) between September 2020 and February 2021. The participants were evaluated in three groups: the FMS group (n=465), the CLBP group (n=455), and the healthy control group (n=440). Physical activity, pain levels, and general health status before and during the pandemic were evaluated in all participants. Stress levels were analyzed with the perceived stress scale (PSS) in all groups, and disease activity was analyzed with the fibromyalgia impact questionnaire (FIQ) in patients with FMS. Otizm belirtilerinin erken çocukluk döneminde ortaya çıkan ve etkileri genellikle bir ömür süren geniş spektrumlu nöro-gelişimsel bir bozukluktur. Otizmin küresel yaygınlığı her geçen yıl katlanarak artmakta ve bu durum otizmli birey ve ailelerini odak alan çalışmalar daha önemli hale gelmektedir. Zira otizm sadece bireyin değil aile üyelerinin iyilik halini de ciddi anlamda etkileyen bir bozukluktur. Başta bakım ile ilgili yükler olmakla birlikte aileler üzerindeki psikolojik ve sosyal yükler, aile dinamiklerini etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı da otizmli çocuğa sahip ailelerin yaşadıkları psikolojik ve sosyal zorluklara ilişkin deneyimlerini ortaya koymak ve ihtiyaçlarını belirlemektir. Araştırma, ailelerin otizmli çocuğa sahip olma konusundaki hislerini, deneyimlerini ve algılarını keşfetmek amacıyla nitel olarak tasarlanmıştır. The global prevalence of autism increases exponentially with each passing year, and studies focusing on individuals with autism and their families are becoming more important. Because autism is a disorder that seriously affects not only the individual but also the well-being of family members. Although there are burdens related to care, psychological and social burdens on families affect family dynamics. The aim of this study is to reveal the experiences of families with children with autism regarding psychological and financial difficulties and to determine their needs. The research was qualitatively designed to explore families' feelings, experiences and perceptions about having a child with autism. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 parents who were medically diagnosed with autism for their children under the age of 18. Purposeful sampling was used to determine the study group. The data were obtained as a result of face-to-face interviews conducted by the researcher using a semi-structured interview form and analyzed with the MAXQDA 2020 program. Families have various difficulties regarding pre-diagnosis, post-diagnosis and social acceptance. Difficulties include the prolongation of the time between the moment when families are in doubt and the time they go to professionals for a diagnosis. This is about non-acceptance and denial. Families who have difficulties in accepting after the diagnosis go to different professionals during this process, which causes delays in early intervention and education. The families stated that they do not have a clear road map about what to do after the diagnosis and that informing the family is quite sufficient.

Background : : Development of methods to accelerate nerve regeneration in peripheral nerve damage is important. Electroacupuncture is a new therapeutic method that combines traditional acupuncture with modern electrotherapy. Melatonin has been shown to reduce nerve damage. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine and compare the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture and melatonin on rat sciatic nerve injury. Methods : : A total of 56 adult male Wistar Albino rats were divided into four study groups with 14 animals in each group: intact control (group I), subcutaneous saline (group II), subcutaneous melatonin (group III), and electroacupuncture (group IV). Surgical procedure including unilateral (right) sciatic nerve injury was applied to groups II, III, and IV. Saline and melatonin started immediately after surgery for six weeks, while electroacupuncture was given two weeks after surgery for 3 weeks. Functional and histological assessments were used as outcome measurements. Results : : Sciatic nerve damage caused a significant decrease in nerve conduction velocity. Both electroacupuncture treatment and melatonin treatment significantly increased the nerve conduction velocity. Both sciatic functional recovery and histological regeneration were faster in these treatment groups compared to the saline. However, no significant difference was observed between the two treatment groups. Conclusion : : Electroacupuncture and melatonin are promising alternative treatment strategies for peripheral nerve damage and can be examined in detail in future studies.

To evaluate the validity and reliability of the Fonseca anamnestic index (FAI) over time in Turkish females.Four hundred-fourteen patients who visited the otorhinolaryngology clinic were initially included in the study between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2019. The Turkish version of the FAI is a self-report instrument that was completed by all of the patients after a brief explanation from the clinician. Cronbach's alpha was calculated using data from the first questionnaire.The results of the first assessment showed 243 patients had no TMD (58.7%), 40 had mild TMD (9.7%), 87 had moderate TMD (21%), and 44 had severe TMD (10.6%). At the second assessment, the respective values were 243 (58.7%), 37 (8.9%), 98 (23.7%), and 36 (8.7%). The internal consistency of the first test was high.The FAI can be used to collect a large amount of data easily, at minimal cost.

Background To compare the efficacies of botulinum toxin-A injection and dry needling methods in the treatment of patients with myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Methods In this prospective study, 40 MPS patients (29 women, 11 men) were randomly assigned to abobotulinum toxin-A injection (Group 1, n = 20) or dry needling (Group 2, n = 20) groups. Pain, crepitation, functional limitation, maximum mouth opening, jaw strength were evaluated at baseline and 6 weeks, and the results in both groups were compared. Results The average age of the authors' patients was 33.8±8.1. There was a remarkable difference between 2 groups regarding visual analog scale for TMJ pain at rest (P = 0.048). The pain at rest was relieved more effectively in Group 2 at the end of 6 weeks. Improvement in jaw protrusion angles on the right (P = 0.009) and left (P = 0.002) sides was more evident in Group 2 after 6 weeks. There were significant pain relief and functional improvement after treatment in both groups. In Group 2, recovery of the TMJ function was more obvious in 6 weeks following dry needling (P = 0.002). Conclusion The authors suggest that abobotulinum toxin-A injection and dry needling yield satisfactory therapeutic outcomes regarding pain relief and restoration of function in patients with MPS involving TMJ. Further multicentric, randomized, controlled trials on larger series are warranted to obtain more accurate and reliable information.

Bu araştırmanın amacı Türkiye’nin ulusal kanalı olan TRT Çocuk’ ta çocukların yaş düzeylerine göre, belirli kazanım ve temalar çerçevesinde hazırlanarak yayınlanan çizgi filmlerden biri olan ve araştırmaya katılan öğrenciler tarafından en çok sevilen “Rafadan Tayfa” adlı çizgi filmde yer alan değerlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda ilkokul birinci ve ikinci sınıf öğrencisi olan 282 öğrenciye (144 kız, 138 erkek) TRT Çocuk kanalında 6-8 yaş aralığı için hazırlanmış olan Türk yapımı çizgi filmlerin adları yazılı olarak verilmiş ve en çok sevdikleri çizgi filmi işaretlemeleri istenmiştir. Tercihleri doğrultusunda ilk sırada belirlenen “Rafadan Tayfa” adlı çizgi filmin ilk 40 bölümü nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi ile Hayat Bilgisi Programı’nda yer alan değerler doğrultusunda incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak incelenen bölümlerde en çok yer alan değerlerin sırasıyla “Yardımseverlik”, “Dayanışma” ve “Bilimsellik” olduğu, en az yer alan değerlerin ise “Dürüstlük”, “Misafirperverlik”, “Hoşgörü” “Estetik” ve “Vatanseverlik” olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Atypische lipomatose Tumore (ALT) sind seltene semimaligne Tumore des Fettgewebes mit der Moglichkeit der Transformation zum Sarkom. ALT konnen prinzipiell uberall auftreten, wobei Hande sehr selten betroffen sind. Wir berichten uber einen 49-jahrigen Patienten mit einem 4×8 cm messenden lipomatosen Tumor streckseitig am rechten Daumen. Das Kernspintomogramm zeigte eine inhomogene Kontrastmittelaufnahme. Der Tumor wurde in toto entfernt. Histologisch bestatigte sich die Verdachtsdiagnose des ALT, weshalb der Daumen adjuvant bestahlt wurde. In den Verlaufskontrollen zeigte der Patient kein Rezidiv. Je groser ein lipomatoser Tumor ist, desto eher muss an das Vorliegen eines ALT gedacht werden. Wir empfehlen daher ab einer Grose von etwa 5 cm, die Diagnostik durch ein Kernspintomogramm zu vervollstandigen und die Resektion nach onkologischen Gesichtspunkten durchzufuhren.

Amaç: Sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunun, bel ağrısının önemli bir nedeni olabileceğibildirilmektedir. Bu çalışma, kronik bel ağrısı olan katılımcılarda sakroiliak eklem fonksiyonbozukluğunun araştırılması ve sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğunun travma öyküsü ile ilişkisiniincelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirildi.Yöntem: Çalışmaya 25-60 yıl yaş aralığında kronik bel ağrısı şikâyeti olan 323 katılımcı (189kadın, 134 erkek; yaş=47,58±11,78 yıl) dahil edildi. Katılımcıların demografik bilgileri, travma/düşme geçmişi kaydedildi. Ağrı şiddeti Görsel Analog Skalası (GAS) ile değerlendirildi. Sakroiliakeklem fonksiyon bozukluğunu değerlendirmek amacıyla eklem provokasyon ve hareketlilik testlerikullanıldı.Sonuçlar: Çalışmaya alınan katılımcıların 174’ünde (% 53,9) sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğuolduğu belirlendi. Travma/düşme geçmişinin, sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu görülme oranınıolumsuz yönde etkilediği görüldü (p=0,001). Sakroiliak eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olan katılımcılarınağrı şiddeti, eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olmayanlara göre daha yüksek olarak bulundu (p=0,002).Tartışma: Çalışma sonuçlarımız, kronik bel ağrılı katılımcılarda sakroiliak eklem fonksiyonbozukluğu görülme oranının yüksek olduğunu ve eklem fonksiyon bozukluğu olan katılımcılarındaha şiddetli ağrı deneyimlediklerini gösterdi. Ayrıca, travma/düşme geçmişinin sakroiliak eklemfonksiyon bozukluğunu artırdığı sonucuna ulaşıldı. Kronik bel ağrısı olan hastaların sakroiliak eklemfonksiyon bozukluğu yönünden de araştırılması ve tedavi programının bu doğrultuda düzenlenmesigerektiğini düşünmekteyiz.

Amaç : Oral yolla yeterli beslenmeyi sağlayamayan hastalarda metabolik gereksinimleri karşılamak için enteral veya parenteral beslenme yolları kullanılmaktadır. Perkutan endoskopik gastrostomi (PEG), gastrointestinal sistem fonksiyonları normal olan ve oral yolla beslenemeyen hastalarda uzun süreli enteral beslenme için tercih edilen bir işlemdir. Amacımız PEG işlemi yaptığımız hastaların sonuçlarını literatür eşliğinde incelemektir. Mataryel ve metot: 2012- 2018 yılları arasında Gebze Kocaeli Fatih Devlet Hastanesi genel cerrahi endoskopi ünitesinde perkutan endoskopik gasrostomi tüpü takılan 128 hastanın kayıtları retrospektif olarak incelendi. Hastaların yaşı, cinsiyeti, işlem tarihi, primer hastalığı(peg endikasyonu) gibi bilgiler ile işlem sonrası gelişen komplikasyonlar değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Çalışmaya 52 erkek (%40,63) ve 76 kadın (%59,4) olmak üzere toplam 128 hasta katılmıştır. Hastaların 97’si (%75,8) yatan hasta, 31’ si (%24.2) hasta ayaktan gelen hastalardı. Yatan hastalardan 90 (% 92,8 ) yoğun bakım ünitesinde 7(% 7,2 ) si nöroloji kliniğinde yatmaktadır. PEG takılan hastaların tamamında primer tanı SVO idi. Majör komplikasyon gelişmedi. Minör komplikasyolar 6 hastada (%4,69) yara enfeksiyonu ve 5 hastada (%3,91) PEG kenarından sızdırma vardır. Bütün hastalar semptomatik tedaviden fayda gördü. Sonuç: PEG deneyimli ekip tarafından yapıldığı takdirde basit, güvenli, komplikasyon oranı düşük, etkili bir enteral beslenme yöntemidir. Uygun hastalarda, uzun süreli enteral beslenme için öncelikle başvurulması gereken beslenme şeklidir.

Sever, Melih/0000-0001-5818-5114 WOS: 000502847800001 Social work in the context of schools has been attracting growing interest in the Turkish education field over recent years, as evidenced by discussions and a significant body of literature regarding introducing social work services in schools alongside counselling services. However, while social workers and social work academics debate over the practicalities of social workers working in schools for various reasons including new employment opportunities and better education environments, it appears that none have examined counsellors' perceptions about the possible future collaboration with social workers in schools. From our perspective, it is vital to know what and how counsellors think of social workers with regards to a possible future professional partnership. in this sense, our research investigated what counsellors, who were currently working in state schools, knew about social work, particularly in a school setting. Quantitative descriptive methods were employed to understand school counsellors' perceptions. the study's population consisted of 295 school counsellors that were working in state schools in Altindag, cankaya and Yenimahalle; three provinces in Ankara, Turkey. the study showed that although the counsellors' reports suggested that they were self-assured in working with social workers in schools, they were not satisfied with their understanding of the social work profession, school social work in particular. the participants emphasized that familial problems and low levels of motivation towards school were prevalent problems for the students. the counsellors were not opposed to working with a social worker in schools; in fact the vast majority of the participants believed that working as part of a psychosocial team in schools could enhance school psychosocial services. Lastly, counsellors' perceptions about social workers were dominantly positive despite their self-reported inadequate information of the social work discipline in general.

BACKGROUND: Subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) is characterized by pain and disability of shoulder. Various treatment methods have been used for SIS. OBJECTIVES: The aim of our study was to evaluate efficacy of therapeutic ultrasound (US) on pain, disability, anxiety, depression, sleep quality and quality of life in patients with SIS. METHODS: Patients with SIS were randomly divided into two groups, including the group 1 (continuous US group; 3 MHz, 1.5 W/cm2, n = 26) and group 2 (sham US group, n = 24). Additionally, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) + exercise program were added in both groups. Pain and disability of the shoulder were assessed by the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), while anxiety and depression were evaluated using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality. Quality of life was evalutaed by the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Patients were evaluated at baseline and after end of three weeks. RESULTS: Both groups had significantly improvements in terms of SPADI-pain, SPADI-disability, SPADI-total, NHP-pain and NHP-sleep scores after the three weeks interventions. There were significantly improvements in the Group 1 in terms of PSQItotal, and NHP-physical activity. Group 2 had significantly improvements in terms of anxiety-HADS, depression-HADS and NHP-emotional reaction scores. In the inter-group comparison, there were no significantly differences in the change scores were observed in any domains of SPADI scores, anxiety, depression and sleep scores, or any NHP scores. CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that US does not have any benefits on SIS. TENS + exercise program are not effective on anxiety, depression and fatigue, however TENS + exercise program are effective on pain, disability and sleep disturbance in patients with SIS. © 2016 - IOS Press and the authors. Background: Pregnancy-related low back pain is a common condition during pregnancy. Kinesio tape is a drug-free elastic therapeutic tape used for treating various musculoskeletal problems. The aim of this study was to investigate the short-term effects of lumbar Kinesio taping on pain intensity and disability in women with pregnancy-related low back pain. Material/Methods: A total of 65 patients with pregnancy-related low back pain were randomly allocated into either Kinesio taping (n=33) or control (n=32) groups. The intervention group was treated with paracetamol plus Kinesio taping, while the control group received only paracetamol. Kinesio taping was applied in the lumbar flexion position, and four I-shaped bands were used. Two bands were attached horizontally, with space correction technique. The remaining 2 bands, 1 on each side of the lumbar spine, were placed vertically, with inhibition technique. Low back pain intensity was measured on a 10-cm visual analogue scale (VAS), and the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) was used for evaluation of disability. Results: Pain intensity and RMDQ scores improved significantly in both groups at 5 days compared with baseline. There are few studies in the literature that comparatively evaluate the use of intra-articular orticosteroids (CS), hyaluronic acid (HA), and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). In this study, the authors aimed to compare the clinical results of intraarticular CS, HA, and PRP injections in patients who presented to the authors’ clinic with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and clinically diagnosed with TMJ-osteoarthritis. Patients were evaluated in 2 groups as those patients who felt pain on lateral (n ¼ 31), and posterior (n ¼ 43) palpation. Patients who were evaluated in the study were randomly assigned to 3 different treatment groups as Group 1 (PRP), Group 2 (HA), and Group 3 (CS). Pain felt on the TMJ on lateral and posterior palpation was assessed before treatment and every month for 3 months using a 5-point pain scale. Presence of crepitation, loss of function, and loss of strength were assessed before treatment and every month for 3 months. Significant changes were observed in the PRP and HA groups when the patients were evaluated according to the VAS scores evaluated at different follow-up times for TMJ pain on lateral palpation. Significant changes were observed in the PRP, HA, and CS groups when VAS scores were evaluated according to the patients’ follow-up times for TMJ pain on lateral palpation. In conclusion, the findings of this study have shown that intra-articular PRP injections decreased TMJ palpation pain more effectively compared with the HA and CS groups. © 2019 by Mutaz B. Toplumsal sorunların çözümünde aktif bir rol oynayan Sivil Toplum Kuruluşları (STK) çeşitli sosyal sorumluluk projeleri ile devletin üstlendiği birtakım işleri yaparlar. Araştırmanın amacı, daha iyi bir toplum ve sürdürülebilir bir çevre için, çevreci STK’larda çalışanların (profesyonel/gönüllü/ücretli) sosyal sorumluluk ve özgecilik tutumlarının demografik değişkenlere göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık gösterip göstermediği ve özgecilik tutumu ile sosyal sorumluluk tutumu arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Araştırmanın örneklemi, Ankara İlinde faaliyet gösteren çevreci STK’lar arasından ulaşılabilen 104 üyeden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak “sosyal sorumluluk ölçeği” ve “özgecilik ölçeği” ile bir takım sosyo-demografik soruları içeren bir anket uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada özgecilik ve sosyal sorumluluk puanlarının ilişkisi Pearson korelasyon testi ile, özgecilik ve sosyal sorumluluk puanlarının demografik değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermemesi bağımsız gruplar t ve ANOVA testleri ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda; çevreci sivil toplum kuruluşu çalışanlarının gelir yeterlik durumunun çevreye yönelik sosyal sorumluluk ölçeği ve alt boyutu olan sosyal tüketim davranışı açısından anlamlı fark gösterdiği; ayrıca öğrenim ve çalışma durumuna göre özgecilik alt boyutlarından sorumluluk düzeylerinin de anlamlı bir fark gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmanın diğer bir bulgusu ise; özgecilik ve sosyal sorumluluk düzeylerinin genel olarak yüksek olduğu, sosyal sorumluluk düzeylerinin ise özgeciliğe göre daha yüksek olduğu şeklindedir.

Ankylosing spondylitis is one of the subgroup of diseases called "seronegative spondyloarthropathy". Frequently, it affects the vertebral colon and sacroiliac joint primarily and affects the peripheral joints less often. This chronic, inflammatory and rheumatic disease can also affect the extraarticular regions of the body. The extraarticular affections can be ophthalmologic, cardiac, pulmonary or neurologic. The cardiac affection can be 2-10% in all patients. Cardiac complications such as left ventricular dysfunction, aortitis, aortic regurgitation, pericarditis and cardiomegaly are reviewed.

Atypical lipomatous tumours (ALT) are rare semi-malignant adipose tissue tumours with the potential to transform into sarcomas. They may occur throughout the body, although the hands are very rarely involved. We present the case of a 49-year-old man with a lipomatous tumour measuring 8×4 cm at the dorsum of the right thumb. MRI demonstrated an inhomogeneous signal after contrast medium application. The tumour was excised in its entirety. Since histology confirmed the diagnosis of an ALT, the thumb was irradiated. The patient remained free of recurrence. An ALT has to be suspected if a lipomatous tumour is very large. We recommend an MRI prior to surgery in tumours larger than 5 cm. Excision should follow oncologic principles.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of intermittent and continuous traction in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Design: A randomized, controlled, observer-blind seven-week trial. Setting: Hospital-based outpatient practice. Subjects: Ninety-eight patients with stage 3 knee osteoarthritis according to Kellgren–Lawrence radiological rating scale. Interventions: All 98 patients were randomly assigned to three treatment groups, for three weeks (weekends excluded). The control group ( n=30, mean age: 59.30±8.16) received hot pack and short wave diathermy; the intermittent group ( n=30, mean age: 58.20±7.78) received hot pack, short wave diathermy and intermittent traction; and the continuous group ( n=30, mean age: 57.97±9.53) received hot pack, short wave diathermy and continuous traction. Outcome measurements: The values of the Turkish version of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), visual analog scale, and knee passive range of motion were measured at baseline, three-week and seven-week follow-up. Results: Compared with baseline at weeks 3 and 7, all the outcome measures, except range of motion, were significantly reduced in all groups (all P≤0.001). In terms of the change data from baseline to week 3, both traction groups were significantly superior to the control in the WOMAC physical function scores. Considering the change data from baseline to week 7, both traction groups were significantly superior to the control in the pain scores, physical function and total scores, while only the continuous group was significantly better than the control in the stiffness scores (control: 1.17 ± 1.64; continuous: 2.38 ± 1.44) ( P=0.014). Compared with baseline at weeks 3 and 7, range of motion values significantly increased in both traction groups ( P0.05). However, there were no significant differences among the three groups considering the change data from baseline to week 7 in range of motion values ( P=0.300). Conclusions: Joint traction was found to be beneficial for the improvement of pain and physical function loss related to knee osteoarthritis.

Herniated nucleus pulposus is the most commonly encountered condition in lumbar region. Herniated disk frequently occurs in the anterior epidural region. However, posterior migration of disk body is very rare because of the anatomic structure. When a mass is detected in the posterior epidural region, various etiological factors such as tumors, abscess, and cysts are generally taken into consideration in differential diagnosis other than disk herniation; however, posterior migration of the disk herniation has also similar appearance to these mentioned conditions. In this case report, we aimed to discuss differential diagnosis of 2 patients with sequestrated disk herniation in whom posterior epidural mass was observed in magnetic resonance imaging and to review the literature. © 2014 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is a disease that is highly heterogeneous, both clinically and genetically. Clinical and electrophysiological data are essential for diagnosis. Children with CMT experience acquired foot weakness, contracture and deformity (pes cavus and hammer toes) from an early age. Early intervention targeting the foot and ankle may prevent long-term disability in CMT. Here we present a CMT patient with acquired pes cavus and hammer toes and review the literature briefly for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of CMT. As a result we conclude that CMT should also come into mind in the differential diagnosis of acquired pes cavus and hammer toes.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effects of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication on the number of tender points, sleep quality, depression, and anxiety in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome. Patients and methods: The study was performed on 32 fibromyalgia syndrome patients (28 females, 4 males; mean age 38.5±8.6 years) suffering from dyspeptic complaints. All participants were evaluated by gastric endoscopy and bacterial culture for the presence of H. pylori. Patients included in the study were all H. pylori positive. The patients were assessed by the number of tender points, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory pre- and post-treatment for eradication of H. pylori. Amoxicillin 1 g, clarithromycin 500 mg, and lansoprazole 30 mg were given twice daily for three weeks to all patients. Results: The number of tender points was significantly reduced at the evaluation of post-treatment compared with baseline (p 0.05). Conclusion: Our study results show that H. pylori eradication has a positive impact on the number of tender points.
