1. Kinetic energy properties of irrotational deep-water Stokes waves

Abstract

We investigate kinetic energy properties of an irrotational deep-water Stokes wave. By introducing a conformal hodograph transform, we perform complex analysis in the new variables, and show that the existence of the streamline time-period for deep-water Stokes waves. Relying on the conformal mappings, we prove some qualitative results about the kinetic energy such as the convexity property of integral means of kinetic energy, the streamline time-period being non-increasing and independent of initial data and the monotonicity and logarithmic convexity of the total kinetic energy over a streamline time-period. Moreover, taking advantage of the non-increasing nature of the streamline time-period, we show that the streamline time-period strictly larger than the wave period, which suggests the fact that there are no closed paths for all particles in a deep-water Stokes flow and the drift of any streamline is positive. 2. Kinetic energy and streamline properties for irrotational equatorial wind waves

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate kinetic energy and streamline properties for an irrotational periodic geophysical traveling surface water waves propagating in equatorial oceanic regions. Relying on the methods from complex analysis, we prove the logarithmic convexity and monotonicity of specific flow variables. By means of conformal mappings, we derive some qualitative results for kinetic energy and streamline, such as streamline time-period being independent of any moment and any point on the streamline in steady flow, the concavity and monotonicity of total kinetic energy within the region between two streamlines and the convexity and monotonicity of total kinetic energy over a streamline time-period. Moreover, we present several results about irrotational equatorial wind waves, such as an upper bound of the minimum of streamline time-period, an upper bound of the maximum of area within the region between two streamlines. Taking advantage of the Bernoulli's law and the Schwarz reflection principle, we show that the extremum of the kinetic energy is attained on the free surface for irrotational equatorial wind waves.

4. Wave breaking in the unidirectional non-local wave model

Abstract

In this paper we study wave breaking in the unidirectional non-local wave model describing the motion of a collision-free plasma in a magnetic field. By analyzing the monotonicity and continuity properties of a system of the Riccati-type differential inequalities involving the extremal slopes of flows, we show a new sufficient condition on the initial data to exhibit wave breaking. Moreover, the estimates of life span and wave breaking rate are derived.

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate existence and stability of solitary waves to the rotation-Camassa-Holm equation which can be considered as a model in the shallow water for the long-crested waves propagating near the equator with effect of the Coriolis force due to the Earths rotation. We prove existence of solitary waves by performing a phase plane analysis. Moreover, utilizing the approach proposed by Grillakis-Shatah-Strauss, we prove stability of solitary waves.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider the Kakutani-Matsuuchi model which describes the surface elevation of the water-waves under the effect of viscosity. We show wave breaking for the Kakutani-Matsuuchi model, namely, the solution remains bounded but its slope becomes unbounded in finite time, the slope of the initial data is sufficiently negative.

Abstract

In this paper, we characterize the phase transitons of Born-Infeld AdS black holes in terms of Lyapunov exponents. We calculate the Lyapunov exponents for both null and timelike geodesics. It is found that black hole phase transitions can be described by multiple-valued Lyapunov exponents. And its phase diagram can be characterized by Lyapunov exponents and Hawking temperature. Besides, the change of Lyapunov exponents can be considered as order parameter, and exists a critical exponent $1/2$ near critical point., Comment: 22 pages, 21 figures

Abstract

We study the reinforcement learning problem of complex action control in the Multi-player Online Battle Arena (MOBA) 1v1 games. This problem involves far more complicated state and action spaces than those of traditional 1v1 games, such as Go and Atari series, which makes it very difficult to search any policies with human-level performance. In this paper, we present a deep reinforcement learning framework to tackle this problem from the perspectives of both system and algorithm. Our system is of low coupling and high scalability, which enables efficient explorations at large scale. Our algorithm includes several novel strategies, including control dependency decoupling, action mask, target attention, and dual-clip PPO, with which our proposed actor-critic network can be effectively trained in our system. Tested on the MOBA game Honor of Kings, our AI agent, called Tencent Solo, can defeat top professional human players in full 1v1 games., Comment: AAAI 2020

Abstract

The pulsed optically pumped (POP) atomic clock has demonstrated unexpected performance in terms of frequency stability and drift. However, it remains a huge challenge to make this type of atomic clock more compact. Herein, we report the design of a miniaturized physics package, which is equipped with a magnetron microwave cavity holding a vapor cell of 1.3 cm internal diameter. The Zeeman transition spectrum reveals that the microwave cavity resonates in TE011-like mode. Based on a low-noise testbed, we also quantitatively analyze the relaxation time, linewidth, and noise sources of the resulting POP atomic clock. The population and coherence relaxation time are measured to be 3.16(0.16) and 2.97(0.03) ms under the temperature of 333 K, which are compatible well with the theoretical calculation. The Ramsey signal shows a contrast of 35% and a linewidth of 192 Hz. The total volume of the physics package is about 44 cm3, including a layer of magnetic shielding. The short-term frequency stability is measured to be 4.8 × 10−13τ−1/2 (where τ is the averaging time), which is mainly limited by the relative intensity noise of the laser system. 33. Activation of GPER1 by G1 prevents PTSD‐like behaviors in mice: Illustrating the mechanisms from BDNF/TrkB to mitochondria and synaptic connection.

Abstract

Background: G1 is a specific agonist of G protein‐coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER1), which binds and activates GPER1 to exert various neurological functions. However, the preventive effect of G1 on post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its mechanisms are unclear. Objective: To evaluate the protective effect of G1 against synaptic and mitochondrial impairments and to investigate the mechanism of G1 to improve PTSD from brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/tyrosine kinase receptor B (TrkB) signaling. Methods: This study initially detected GPER1 expression in the hippocampus of single prolonged stress (SPS) mice, utilizing both Western blot and immunofluorescence staining. Subsequently, the effects of G1 on PTSD‐like behaviors, synaptic, and mitochondrial functions in SPS mice were investigated. Additionally, the involvement of BDNF/TrkB signaling involved in the protection was further confirmed using GPER1 antagonist and TrkB inhibitor, respectively. Results: The expression of GPER1 was reduced in the hippocampus of SPS mice, and G1 treatment given for 14 consecutive days significantly improved PTSD‐like behaviors in SPS mice compared with model group. Electrophysiological local field potential (LFP) results showed that G1 administration for 14 consecutive days could reverse the abnormal changes in the gamma oscillation in the CA1 region of SPS mice. Meanwhile, G1 administration for 14 consecutive days could significantly improve the abnormal expression of synaptic proteins, increase the expression of mitochondria‐related proteins, increase the number of synapses in the hippocampus, and ameliorate the damage of hippocampal mitochondrial structure in SPS mice. In addition, G15 (GPER1 inhibitor) and ANA‐12 (TrkB inhibitor) blocked the ameliorative effects of G1 on PTSD‐like behaviors and aberrant expression of hippocampal synaptic and mitochondrial proteins in SPS mice and inhibited the reparative effects of G1 on structural damage to hippocampal mitochondria, respectively. Conclusion: G1 improved PTSD‐like behaviors in SPS mice, possibly by increasing hippocampal GPER1 expression and promoting BDNF/TrkB signaling to repair synaptic and mitochondrial functional impairments. 44. Resistance to Cholesterol Gallstone Disease: Hepatic Cholesterol Metabolism.

Abstract

Cholesterol gallstone disease (CGD) is one of the most common digestive diseases, and it is closely associated with hepatic cholesterol metabolism. Cholesterol gallstones may be caused by abnormal hepatic cholesterol metabolism, such as excessive cholesterol biosynthesis within the liver, interfering with the uptake or export of cholesterol in the liver, and abnormal hepatic cholesterol esterification. In this review, we begin with a brief overview of the clinical diagnosis and treatment of gallstone disease (GSD). Then, we briefly describe the major processes of hepatic cholesterol metabolism and summarize the key molecular expression changes of hepatic cholesterol metabolism in patients with gallstones. We review and analyze the recent advances in elucidating the relationships between these key molecules and CGD, and some targets significantly impacting on CGD via hepatic cholesterol metabolism are also listed. We also provide a significant discussion on the relationship between CGD and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Finally, the new discoveries of some therapeutic strategies associated with hepatic cholesterol metabolism to prevent and treat CGD are summarized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
