Abstract In this paper we study the initial boundary value problem for a class of integro-differential time fractional order parabolic equations with a small positive parameter ε. Using the Laplace transform, Mittag-Leffler operator family, C 0 $C_{0}$ -semigroup, resolvent operator, and weighted function space, we get the existence of a mild solution. For suitable indices p ∈ [ 1 , + ∞ ) $p\in [1,+\infty )$ and s ∈ ( 1 , + ∞ ) $s\in (1,+\infty )$ , we first prove that the mild solution of the approximating problem converges to that of the corresponding limit problem in L p ( ( 0 , T ) , L s ( Ω ) ) $L^{p}((0,T), L^{s}(\Omega ))$ as ε → 0 + $\varepsilon \rightarrow 0^{+}$ . Then for the linear approximating problem with ε and the corresponding limit problem, we give the continuous dependence of the solutions. Finally, for a class of semilinear approximating problems and the corresponding limit problems with initial data in L s ( Ω ) $L^{s}(\Omega )$ , we prove the local existence and uniqueness of the mild solution and then give the continuous dependence on the initial data.

The structure of macrobenthic communities in island intertidal zones serves as an important indicator for assessing the health status of ecosystems. In recent years, the unregulated and extensive development and utilization of island resources in China, coupled with the continuous deterioration of the ecological environment in the surrounding marine areas of islands, have significantly impacted the health and stability of island ecosystems. Four investigations during spring (2018, 2021) and autumn (2017, 2020) of the Niushan Island intertidal zones and surrounding waters, located off the coast of Taizhou, Zhejiang, were conducted in this study. The purpose was to explore the external factors influencing the structure of intertidal macrobenthic communities and to assess the ecological status of the island. There was a clear vertical zonation observed in the distribution of the macrobenthic communities. During this survey, the eutrophication index improved, and the temperature, salinity, and suspended particulate matter exhibited seasonal fluctuations. Dissolved inorganic phosphorus and nitrate were the environmental factors that required special attention in coastal ecological monitoring, which significantly affected the distribution of the macrobenthic communities and was strongly correlated with the biotic indices and different ecological group biomasses. Most of the islands were classified as having a moderate status based on the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'). The AZTI Biotic Index (AMBI) and Multivariate AMBI (MAMBI) indicated that almost all islands were in good status, and the evaluation results demonstrated that the AMBI and MAMBI tended to overestimate the ecological status of the rocky intertidal zone. There was a significant correlation between the MAMBI and several traditional biological indices, suggesting that the MAMBI could be introduced as an evaluation indicator for the ecological status of rocky reefs. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the boundaries of different assessment levels.

Seawater temperatures have increased with global climate change. Coolant water discharged from coastal nuclear power-generating and coal-powered plants, coupled with already increasing seawater temperatures, can adversely affect local fish communities. A sudden drop in temperature caused by the winter shutdown of power plants can also affect fish health and behavior. To assess the effects of temperature change on fish populations, we subjected early life stages of the once commercially important large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) to various water temperature experiments. Fertilized eggs showed the highest hatching rate at 23.4°C and the lowest rate of deformity in hatched larvae at 23.0°C. We determined the incipient lethal temperature for each life stages using derivation models. Ranges between the upper and lower incipient lethal temperatures increased during development from yolk-sac larvae to juveniles, especially in response to cold shock, indicating that later developmental stages in this species are more tolerant of temperature fluctuations. However, thermal tolerance is not solely determined by life stage. Our results suggest that rapid changes in seawater temperature caused by power plant coolant water discharges may significantly affect early developmental stages of fish. Critical thermal maximum tests indicate that the seawater heating rate is significantly negatively correlated with survival time and affects the critical thermal maximum value of L. crocea. On the basis of our determination of incipient lethal temperatures, emergency measures could be taken to avoid adverse economic and ecological impacts due to changes in seawater temperature caused by coolant water discharges.

Water quality in Hangzhou Bay is inferior (grade 5) because of discharged from Yangtze River and Qiantang River, and from factories around the bay. This study analyzed relationships between the environment and macrobenthic communities at 44 stations throughout Hangzhou Bay, based on samples collected in 2006, from 2016–2018, and in 2021. Long-term spatial and temporal changed in macrobenthos, and the influence of secondary water fronts on community composition, were discussed. Macrobenthos in Qiantang River Estuary was numerically, primarily dominated by crustaceans, and elsewhere by polychaetes. Species that differ most in abundance between four identified regions in the bay were the amphipod Corophium sinensis, clam Potamocorbula laevis, and polychaete Amaeana occidentalis. The abundance and biomass of macrobenthos in different regions differs significantly. Taxa were allocated to six feeding guilds: filter feeders and omnivores predominate in Qiantang River Estuary and south of Hangzhou Bay, while surface and subsurface deposit feeders predominate in sediments north of Hangzhou Bay and in the bay mouth area. Negative correlations were apparent between the abundances of polychaetes Nephtys polybranchia, Magelona japonica, Heterospio sinica, Sabella sp. and A. occidentalis and salinity and pH, while positive correlations were apparent between those of Sternaspis chinensis and Capitellidae indet. Fine-grained fraction (silt and clay) and mid-salinity were more suitable for macrobenthos. The numbers and biomasses of macrobenthic species in the Hangzhou Bay frontal area increased significantly relative to values in adjacent areas. The difference of each area near the front was more than 94%, and the main difference species were polychaetes and mollusks. Our baseline data for this region might ultimately contribute towards improved conservation of regional macrobenthos, and a better understanding of ecosystem health in this highly polluted bay.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of intervention with Yingyangbao (YYB) on hemoglobin (Hb) and anemia status among infants and young children (IYC) aged 6–23 months (mo) through a large-scale Nutrition Improvement Program for Children in Poor Areas (NIPCPA) in China from 2015 to 2020. Five rounds of cross-sectional surveys were conducted using a stratified and multi-stage probability proportional to size sampling of IYC in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Multivariable regression analyses were fitted to determine the effectiveness of the YYB intervention on Hb and anemia, respectively. A total of 36,325, 40,027, 43,831, 44,375 and 46,050 IYC aged 6–23 mo were included, and the prevalence of anemia was 29.7%, 26.9%, 24.1%, 21.2% and 18.1% in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively. Compared with the results in 2015, the Hb concentrations significantly improved and anemia prevalence significantly decreased among IYC in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (p < 0.001). Regression analysis showed that higher YYB consumption was significantly associated with the increment in Hb concentration and reduction in anemia stratified by age group (p < 0.001). The most significant increment in Hb concentration of 2.189 mg/L and the most significant reduction in odds of anemia were observed among IYC aged 12–17 mo who consumed 270 to 359 sachets of YYB (OR: 0.671; 95% CI: 0.627, 0.719; p < 0.001). This study suggests that YYB intervention is a successful public health strategy for reducing the risk of anemia among IYC when delivered through a large-scale NIPCPA in China. It is necessary to continue to advance the program and increase the adherence of YYB.

The comparison of trophic structure and energy flow between natural and artificial reefs is imperative to evaluate whether these man-made structures work similarly to comparable natural reefs. Here, to characterize the potential difference in functioning between two types of reef ecosystems, two trophic models (Ecopath) at an artificial reef and an adjacent natural reef on the coast of the north Yellow Sea, China, were established. Both Ecopath models were divided into 18 functional groups from primary producers (algae and phytoplankton) and detritus to predatory species (e.g., Sebastes schlegelii). Model outputs showed that the ecosystem scale was smaller in the artificial reef (total system throughput (TPP) = 6,455.47 t·km−2·year−1) relative to its natural counterpart (TPP = 9,490.48 t·km−2·year−1). At both reef types, a large proportion of energy occurred at trophic levels I and II, and most of the primary production was utilized through a detritus pathway. This result implies a bottom-up energy flow control for both cases. However, two types of reef systems were behaving in a reasonable manner, as mean transfer efficiencies were similar to the Lindeman efficiency (10%). The ecosystem maturity of the artificial reef is not comparable to that of the natural reef for its inferior value of total primary production/total respiration (TPP/TR). Moreover, both the connectance index (CI) and system omnivory index (SOI) were slightly higher at the artificial reef relative to the natural reef as well as other coastal systems with parallel latitudes, suggesting that the current artificial system has formed complicated interspecies relations and high-level stability. This work updates our knowledge about the functioning evolvement of established artificial reefs and provides a baseline for the efficient management of coastal zones and further investigations.

In this paper, we consider the existence of local smooth solution to stochastic magneto-hydrodynamic equations without diffusion forced by additive noise in R 3 . We first transform the system into a random system via a simple change of variable and borrow the result obtained for classical magneto-hydrodynamic equations, then we show that this random transformed system is measurable with respect to the stochastic element. Finally we extend the solution to the maximality solution. Due to the coupled construction of this system, we need more elaborate and complicated estimates with respect to stochastic Euler equation.

Natural polysaccharides, particularly galactomannans, are potential candidates for treatment of alcoholic liver diseases (ALD). However, applications are restricted due to the physicochemical properties associated with the high molecular weight. In this work, guar gum galactomannans were partially hydrolyzed by β-mannanase, and the molecular mechanisms of hepatoprotective effects were elucidated both in vitro and in vivo. Release of lactate dehydrogenase and cytochrome C were attenuated by partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) in HepG2 cells, due to protected cell and mitochondrial membrane integrity. PHGG co-administration decreased serum amino transaminases and cholinesterase levels of acute alcohol intoxicated mice, while hepatic pathologic morphology was depleted. Activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase was recovered to 198.2, 34.5, 236.0 U/mg protein, respectively, while malondialdehyde level was decreased by 76.3% (PHGG, 1000 mg/kg∙day). Co-administration of PHGG induced a 4.4-fold increment of p-AMPK expression, and lipid metabolism was mediated. PHGG alleviated toll-like-receptor-4-mediated inflammation via the signaling cascade of MyD88 and IκBα, decreasing cytokine production. Moreover, mediated expression of Bcl-2 and Bax was responsible for inhibited acute alcohol-induced apoptosis with suppressed cleavage of caspase 3 and PARP. Findings gained suggest that PHGG can be used as functional food supplement for the treatment of acute alcohol-induced liver injury.

This paper considers the existence and uniqueness of stochastic entropy solution for a nonlinear transport equation with a stochastic perturbation. The uniqueness is based on the doubling variable method. For the existence, we develop a new scheme of parabolic approximation motivated by the method of vanishing viscosity given by Feng and Nualart (J. Funct. Anal. 2008, 255, 313–373). Furthermore, we prove the continuous dependence of stochastic strong entropy solutions on the coefficient b and the nonlinear function f.

We consider the approximate 3D Kelvin-Voigt fluid driven by an external force depending on velocity with distributed delay. We investigate the long time behavior of solutions to Navier-Stokes-Voigt equation with a distributed delay external force depending on the velocity of fluid on a bounded domain. By a prior estimate and a contractive function, we give a sufficient condition for the existence of pullback attractor of NSV equation.

This paper considers a stochastic nonlinear thermoelastic system coupled sine-Gordon equation driven by jump noise. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of strong probabilistic solution of an initial-boundary value problem with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then we give an asymptotic behavior of the solution.

The goal of this paper is to study an initial boundary value problem of stochastic viscoelastic wave equation with nonlinear damping and source terms. Under certain conditions on the initial data: the relaxation function, the indices of nonlinear damping, and source terms and the random force, we prove the local existence and uniqueness of solution by the Galerkin approximation method. Then, considering the relationship between the indices of nonlinear damping and nonlinear source, we give the necessary conditions of global existence and explosion in finite time in some sense of solutions, respectively.

We study the random dynamical system generated by a stochastic reaction-diffusion equation with additive noise on the whole space ℝn and prove the existence of an (L2,H1)-random attractor for such a random dynamical system. The nonlinearity f is supposed to satisfy the growth of arbitrary order p-1 (p≥2). The (L2,H1)-asymptotic compactness of the random dynamical system is obtained by using an extended version of the tail estimate method introduced by Wang (1999) and the cut-off technique.

We prove an abstract result on random invariant sets of finite fractal dimension. Then this result is applied to a stochastic semilinear degenerate parabolic equation and an upper bound is obtained for the random attractors of fractal dimension.
