Looking for new materials with Dirac points has been a fascinating subject of research. Here we report the growth, crystal structure, and band structure of HfGe0.92Te single crystals, featuring three different types of Dirac points. HfGe0.92Te crystalizes in a nonsymmorphic tetragonal space group P4/nmm (No. 129), having square Ge-atom plane with vacancies about 8%. Despite the vacancies on Ge site, the Dirac nodal line composed of conventional Dirac points vulnerable to spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is observed using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, accompanied with the robust Dirac line protected by the nonsymmorphic symmetry against both SOC and vacancies. Specially, spin-orbit Dirac points (SDPs) originated from the surface formed under SOC are hinted to exist according to our experiments and calculations. Quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) characters are observed and further confirmed by angular-resolved magnetoresistance. HfGe0.92Te is a good candidate to explore exotic topological phases or topological properties with three different types of Dirac points and a promising candidate to realize 2D SDPs., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures

The desulfurization in metallurgical process is electrochemical reaction in nature. Desulfurization using the electrochemical method was proposed with the CaO-MgO-Al2O3 molten slag covering molten steel. Effect of an applied external DC voltage, which varied from 0 to 8V, was discussed. The results indicated that sulfur in molten steel could be removed effectively with applied external voltage. According to the mechanism analyses of the desulfurization under the applied external voltage, kinetics formulae were developed, and the model calculated results that were in agreement with the experimental values. The transfer coefficient of sulfur in molten slag under electromigration conditions was approximately 2.09×10-5 m·s-1·V-1. The desulfurization of molten steel with molten slag can be promoted by increasing the applied voltage, reducing the partial pressure of atmospheric oxygen, strengthening the stirring intensity of the reaction system, and optimizing the composition and properties of the slag.

A quark model with running coupling and running strange quark mass, which is thermodynamically self-consistent at both high and lower densities, is presented and applied to study properties of strange quark matter and structure of compact stars. An additional term to the thermodynamic potential density is determined by meeting the fundamental differential equation of thermodynamics. It plays an important role in comparatively lower density and ignorable at extremely high density, acting as a chemical-potential dependent bag constant. In this thermodynamically enhanced perturbative QCD model, strange quark matter still has the possibility of being absolutely stable, while the pure quark star has a sharp surface with a maximum mass as large as about 2 times the solar mass and a maximum radius of about 11 kilometers., Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures

GaMnAs/GaAs films were grown via molecular beam epitaxy using both low and high substrate temperatures. The films were investigated using Hall effect and photoluminescence (PL) measurements from 8 to 300 K. The carrier concentrations in the samples grown at a low substrate temperature are greater than those in the samples grown at a high substrate temperature. The PL spectra show a GaAs exciton peak, a peak involving a carbon acceptor, a substitutional Mn acceptor-related peak and an optical phonon-related peak., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Mn doped GaAs thin films were grown using molecular beam epitaxy at high and low substrate temperatures. The elemental concentration depth profiles in the thin films were determined by using Auger electron spectroscopy combined with ion etching. The Mn concentration is higher near the surface and then decreases with depth for films grown at high substrate temperatures. The Mn concentration profile is much more uniform when films are grown using a low substrate temperature. What was unexpectedly found are high levels of oxygen in the low substrate temperature grown thin films., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

Mn concentration depth profiles in Mn-doped GaAs thin films grown at substrate temperatures of 580 and 250 {\deg}C using various Mn cell temperatures have been investigated with dynamic secondary ion mass spectrometry and Auger electron spectroscopy. When the samples are grown at a low substrate temperature of 250 {\deg}C, the Mn distributes uniformly. For the samples grown at a high substrate temperature of 580 {\deg}C, the concentration depth profiles are easily fitted with a temperature-dependent Fermi function only if the Mn concentration is above the solubility limit. However, when the Mn concentration is below the solubility limit, unexpected peaks are observed in the concentration depth profiles., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

GaMnAs thin films with different Mn doping concentrations were grown via molecular beam epitaxy using a substrate temperature of 250 {\deg}C. The thin films were investigated using photoluminescence (PL) measurements from 8 to 300 K. Transitions involving Mn acceptors were identified and a binding energy of ~0.1 eV was found. A Mn doping concentration dependent PL spectrum was found to lend insight into the film quality at a local level. Temperature dependent PL studies show that the doping related emissions drop faster in energy than other peaks with increasing temperature, indicating that they are more sensitive to changes in the surrounding environment., Comment: 8 pags, 3 figures, 1 table

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology ,Nuclear Theory - Abstract
The previous thermodynamic treatment for models with density and/or temperature dependent quark masses is shown to be inconsistent with the requirement of fundamental thermodynamics. We therefore study a fully self-consistent one according to the fundamental differential equation of thermodynamics. After obtaining a new quark mass scaling with the inclusion of both confinement and leading-order perturbative interactions, we investigate properties of strange quark matter in the fully consistent thermodynamic treatment. It is found that the equation of state become stiffer, and accordingly, the maximum mass of strange stars is as large as about 2 times the solar mass, if strange quark matter is absolutely or metastable.

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
We investigate the properties of strange quark matter in a strong magnetic field with quark confinement by the density dependence of quark mass considering the total baryon number conservation, charge neutrality and chemical equilibrium. The strength of the magnetic field considered in this article is $10^{16} \sim 10^{20}$ G. It is found that an additional term should appear in the pressure expression to maintain thermodynamic consistency. At fixed density, the energy density of magnetized strange quark matter varies with the magnetic field strength. The exists a minimum with increasing the field strength, depending on the density. It is about $6\times10^{19}$ Gauss at two times the normal nuclear saturation density.

As a type of main meat food, pork is widely accepted, and has been used over a long time by residents in China. However, its high cholesterol is the primary unfavourable factor that influences human health. The reduction of cholesterol content in pork through fermentation using probiotics may be a promising candidate approach. In the present work, the probiotic strains were obtained from traditional naturally fermented foods, and identified via monoclonal culture, morphological observation, biochemical detection, and 16S rRNA sequencing. The dominant strain was used to produce sour pork, which was applied to regulate lipid metabolism in mice. Results showed that a total of 31 strains were identified from the traditional naturally fermented foods, of which four strains had similar characteristics to Lactobacillus plantarum, and displayed good capacity for cholesterol degradation with metabolism efficiencies of 75.31% (DC2 strain), 68.01% (PC1 strain), 60.49% (SC1 strain), and 58.02% (DC1 strain). The dominant strain DC2 had 99.93% homology with L. plantarum. Following fermentation with DC2 strain (4 × 10
6 CFU/g inoculum size, 20-day incubation), the cholesterol in sour pork was significantly reduced with 77.2% efficiency. The serum lipids in mice that were fed with sour pork were significantly lower than those in mice that were fed with normal pork. In summary, a L. plantarum strain with good capacity for cholesterol degradation was obtained (CCTCC NO: M 2019121). The strain can be used to produce fermented sour pork. Dietary sour pork may be beneficial for lowering blood lipid levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Evidence for the mucolytic and expectorant efficacy of intravenous (IV) N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is limited. This study aimed to evaluate in a large, multicenter, randomized, controlled, subject, and rater-blinded study whether IV NAC is superior to placebo and non-inferior to ambroxol in improving sputum viscosity and expectoration difficulty. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 333 hospitalized subjects from 28 centers in China with respiratory disease (such as acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and exacerbations, emphysema, mucoviscidosis, and bronchiectasis) and abnormal mucus secretion were randomly allocated in a 1:1:1 ratio to receive NAC 600 mg, ambroxol hydrochloride 30 mg, or placebo as an IV infusion twice daily for 7 days. Mucolytic and expectorant efficacy was assessed by ordinal categorical 4-point scales and analyzed by stratified and modified Mann-Whitney U statistics. RESULTS: NAC showed consistent and statistically significant superiority to placebo and non-inferiority to ambroxol in change from baseline to day 7 in both sputum viscosity scores [mean (SD) difference 0.24 (0.763), p<0.001 vs. placebo] and expectoration difficulty score [mean (SD) difference 0.29 (0.783), p=0.002 vs. placebo]. Safety findings confirm the good tolerability profile of IV NAC reported from previous small studies, and no new safety concerns were identified. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first large, robust study of the efficacy of IV NAC in respiratory diseases with abnormal mucus secretion. It provides new evidence for IV NAC administration in this indication in clinical situations where the IV route is preferred. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

N.J.S. is partially funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) Partnered Evaluation Initiative Grant (HX002263-01A1). Background and objective : Enterobacteriaceae (EB) spp. family is known to include potentially multidrug-resistant (MDR) microorganisms, and remains as an important cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) associated with high mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and specific risk factors associated with EB and MDR-EB in a cohort of hospitalized adults with CAP. Methods : We performed a multinational, point-prevalence study of adult patients hospitalized with CAP. MDR-EB was defined when ≥3 antimicrobial classes were identified as non-susceptible. Risk factors assessment was also performed for patients with EB and MDR-EB infection. Results : Of the 3193 patients enrolled with CAP, 197 (6%) had a positive culture with EB. Fifty-one percent (n = 100) of EB were resistant to at least one antibiotic and 19% (n = 38) had MDR-EB. The most commonly EB identified were Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 111, 56%) and Escherichia coli (n = 56, 28%). The risk factors that were independently associated with EB CAP were male gender, severe CAP, underweight (body mass index (BMI)

- Abstract
Background: Aspiration community-acquired pneumonia (ACAP) and community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in patients with aspiration risk factors (AspRFs) are infections associated with anaerobes, but limited evidence suggests their pathogenic role. Research Question: What are the aspiration risk factors, microbiology patterns, and empiric anti-anaerobic use in patients hospitalized with CAP? Study Design and Methods: This is a secondary analysis of GLIMP, an international, multicenter, point-prevalence study of adults hospitalized with CAP. Patients were stratified into three groups: (1) ACAP, (2) CAP/AspRF+ (CAP with AspRF), and (3) CAP/AspRF- (CAP without AspRF). Data on demographics, comorbidities, microbiological results, and anti-anaerobic antibiotics were analyzed in all groups. Patients were further stratified in severe and nonsevere CAP groups. Results: We enrolled 2,606 patients with CAP, of which 193 (7.4%) had ACAP. Risk factors independently associated with ACAP were male, bedridden, underweight, a nursing home resident, and having a history of stroke, dementia, mental illness, and enteral tube feeding. Among non-ACAP patients, 1,709 (70.8%) had CAP/AspRF+ and 704 (29.2%) had CAP/AspRF-. Microbiology patterns including anaerobes were similar between CAP/AspRF-, CAP/AspRF+ and ACAP (0.0% vs 1.03% vs 1.64%). Patients with severe ACAP had higher rates of total gram-negative bacteria (64.3% vs 44.3% vs 33.3%, P =.021) and lower rates of total gram-positive bacteria (7.1% vs 38.1% vs 50.0%, P <.001) when compared with patients with severe CAP/AspRF+ and severe CAP/AspRF-, respectively. Most patients (>50% in all groups) independent of AspRFs or ACAP received specific or broad-spectrum anti-anaerobic coverage antibiotics. Interpretation: Hospitalized patients with ACAP or CAP/AspRF+ had similar anaerobic flora compared with patients without aspiration risk factors. Gram-negative bacteria were more prevalent in patients with severe ACAP. Despite having similar
