Abstract

Precise direct cosmic-ray (CR) measurements provide an important probe to study the energetic particle sources in our Galaxy, and the interstellar environment through which these particles propagate. Uncertainties on hadronic models, ion-nucleon cross sections in particular, are currently the limiting factor towards obtaining more accurate CR ion flux measurements with calorimetric space-based experiments. We present an energy-dependent measurement of the inelastic cross section of protons and helium-4 nuclei (alpha particles) on a Bi$_4$Ge$_3$O$_{12}$ target, using 88 months of data collected by the DAMPE space mission. The kinetic energy range per nucleon of the measurement points ranges from 18 GeV to 9 TeV for protons, and from 5 GeV/n to 3 TeV/n for helium-4 nuclei. Our results lead to a significant improvement of the CR flux normalisation. This study aimed to observe the enhancing effect of subanesthetic doses of esketamine (0.15– 0.3 mg/kg/h) with dexmedetomidine and remifentanil during anesthesia for liposuction surgery.Patients and Methods: A total of 155 subjects were randomized with a 1:1 ratio to Group E (esketamine-dexmedetomidine/remifentanil, n=78) or Group C (saline-dexmedetomidine/remifentanil group, n=77). The primary outcome was satisfaction of patient and surgical team with the procedure. The secondary outcomes were the postoperative Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores, hemodynamic and respiratory changes, drug consumption, adverse event rates, and predictors associated with patient satisfaction.Results: Patient and surgical team satisfaction with the procedure was significantly higher in Group E than in Group C (4.7 ± 0.6 vs 4.2 ± 0.7, P < 0.001; 4.7 ± 0.5 vs 4.4 ± 0.7, P = 0.005). The postoperative AIS (4 [1, 6] vs 5 [2, 9], P = 0.012) and HADS-A (1 [0, 3] vs 2 [0, 6], P = 0.012) scores were significantly lower in Group E than in Group C. Hemodynamic and respiratory parameters were more stable in Group E than in Group C, with the lower opioids consumption of sufentanil (0 [0, 4] vs 5 [2.5, 7.7], P < 0.001) and remifentanil (700 [480, 900] vs 800 [500, 1200], P = 0.023) in Group E compared to Group C. On ordinal logistics regression, postoperative sleep quality (OR, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.62– 0.79), anxiety level (OR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.62– 0.95) and recovery time in post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) (OR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.56– 0.98) were identified as significant predictors associated with patient satisfaction.Conclusion: A subanesthetic dose of esketamine (0.15– 0.3 mg/kg/h) as an adjuvant can improves the sedative and analgesic effects of dexmedetomidine and remifentanil during anesthesia for liposuction surgery.Clinical Trial Registration: ChiCTR2400080363.Keywords: esketamine, sedation, analgesia, satisfaction, liposuction

Abstract

Recent observations of the light component of the cosmic-ray spectrum have revealed unexpected features that motivate further and more precise measurements up to the highest energies. The Dark Matter Particle Explorer is a satellite-based cosmic-ray experiment that has been operational since December 2015, continuously collecting data on high-energy cosmic particles with very good statistics, energy resolution, and particle identification capabilities. In this work, the latest measurements of the energy spectrum of proton+helium in the energy range from 46 GeV to 464 TeV are presented. Among the most distinctive features of the spectrum, a spectral hardening at 600 GeV has been observed, along with a softening at 29 TeV measured with a 6.6{\sigma} significance. Moreover, the detector features and the analysis approach allowed for the extension of the spectral measurement up to the sub-PeV region. Abstract

More than a century after the performance of the oil drop experiment, the possible existence of fractionally charged particles FCP still remains unsettled. The search for FCPs is crucial for some extensions of the Standard Model in particle physics. Most of the previously conducted searches for FCPs in cosmic rays were based on experiments underground or at high altitudes. However, there have been few searches for FCPs in cosmic rays carried out in orbit other than AMS-01 flown by a space shuttle and BESS by a balloon at the top of the atmosphere. In this study, we conduct an FCP search in space based on on-orbit data obtained using the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) satellite over a period of five years. Unlike underground experiments, which require an FCP energy of the order of hundreds of GeV, our FCP search starts at only a few GeV. An upper limit of $6.2\times 10^{-10}~~\mathrm{cm^{-2}sr^{-1} s^{-1}}$ is obtained for the flux. Our results demonstrate that DAMPE exhibits higher sensitivity than experiments of similar types by three orders of magnitude that more stringently restricts the conditions for the existence of FCP in primary cosmic rays., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures, accepted by PRD

Technical success, technique efficacy, local tumor progression (LTP), major complication, intrahepatic distant recurrence (IDR), and overall survival (OS) were assessed during the follow-up period. In addition, the ablation results of tumors between the medium-sized group (3.1– 5.0 cm) and large-sized group (5.1– 7.0 cm) were compared.Results: 31 patients with 35 primary and secondary liver cancers were treated with MWA assisted by ultrasound FI. Complete ablation was achieved in 34 lesions with a technical success rate of 97.1%. Major complications occurred in 6.5% of patients (2/31), while no ablation-related deaths were reported. The median follow-up time of this study was 24 months (range:10 to 35 months). The technique efficacy rate was 97.1% (34/35), with LTP occurring in three lesions at a rate of 8.8% (3/34). The incidence of IDR was 38.7% (12/31) and the 2-year cumulative OS rate reached 96.7%. Moreover, there were no statistical differences in technique efficacy rate (p=0.286), LTP rate (p=0.328), major complication rate (p=0.503), IDR (p=0.857), and OS (p=0.118) between medium-sized group and large-sized group.Conclusion: Ultrasound FI-assisted MWA has the potential to be an effective and safe therapeutic strategy for primary and secondary liver cancers ranging from 3– 7 cm in size.Keywords: fusion imaging, microwave ablation, liver cancers, ultrasound

They were divided into two groups: group A was monitored under intra-operative CEUS, while group B was assisted by invasive auxiliary means. The efficacy, complications and survival were followed up and compared.Results: Thirty-eight patients with 39 HCCs were enrolled into group A and 31 patients with 35 HCCs were enrolled into group B. The technique efficacy rates were both 100% in the two groups. There were no significant differences of the cumulative 1-, 3-, and 5-year local tumor progression, tumor-free survival and overall survival between the two groups (P = 0.851, 0.081 and 0.700, respectively). There were no significant differences of major and minor complications rates between the two groups (P = 1.000, 0.994, respectively). More importantly, no GB related complications occurred in group A.Conclusion: Intra-operative CEUS monitoring without protective isolation of the GB might be also a potentially safe and effective method for the RFA of HCC adjacent to the GB, when compared with those assisted with invasive auxiliary means.Keywords: hepatocellular carcinoma, gallbladder, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, thermal ablation, monitoring

All the subjects had carotid atherosclerotic plaques, and all of them were examined by CEUS and were tested for serum miR-124 levels.Results: Time to peak (TTP) and mean transit time (MTT) in the ACI group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (P < 0.05), but the peak intensity ratio (PIR), the area under the curve (AUC), and relative expression levels of serum miR-124 were notably greater in the ACI group (P < 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in TTP, MTT, PIR, AUC, and serum miR-124 expression in patients with different cerebral infarct areas in the ACI group (P < 0.05). Besides, the sensitivity and specificity of serum miR-124 levels for the prediction of ACI were 71.67% and 90.00%, respectively, with a cut-off value of 1.52, and the sensitivity was 86.67% and specificity was 93.33% of CEUS combined with serum miR-124 in the prediction of ACI. The ACI group showed a higher proportion of grades 2 and 3 (P < 0.001). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the intraplaque contrast enhancement was negatively related to TTP and MTT but had a positive correlation with PIR, AUC, and serum miR-124 levels.Conclusion: Grades 2 and 3 intraplaque contrast enhancement and serum miR-124 level of 1.52 had high sensitivity and specificity to predict ACI. Abstract

The recent discovery of excellent thermoelectric properties and topological surface states in SnTe-based compounds has attracted extensive attention in various research areas. Indium doped SnTe is of particular interest because, depending on the doping level, it can either generate resonant states in the bulk valence band leading to enhanced thermoelectric properties, or induce superconductivity that coexists with topological states. Here we report on the vapor deposition of In-doped SnTe nanowires and the study of their surface oxidation and thermoelectric properties. The nanowire growth is assisted by Au catalysts, and their morphologies vary as a function of substrate position and temperature. Transmission electron microscopy characterization reveals the formation of amorphous surface in single crystalline nanowires. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies suggest that the nanowire surface is composed of In2O3, SnO2, Te and TeO2 which can be readily removed by argon ion sputtering. Exposure of the cleaned nanowires to atmosphere yields rapid oxidation of the surface within only one minute. Characterizations of electrical conductivity {\sigma}, thermopower S, and thermal conductivity \k{appa} were performed on the same In-doped nanowire which shows suppressed {\sigma} and \k{appa} but enhanced S yielding an improved thermoelectric figure of merit ZT than the undoped SnTe., Comment: Substantial revisions; accepted for publication in Nanoscale

Abstract

PPM1D phosphatase, also called wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1, promotes tumor development by inactivating the p53 tumor suppressor pathway. RBM38 RNA-binding protein, also called RNPC1 and a target of p53, inhibits p53 messenger RNA (mRNA) translation, which can be reversed by GSK3 protein kinase via phosphorylation of RBM38 at serine 195. Here we showed that ectopic expression of RBM38 increases, whereas knockdown of RBM38 inhibits, PPM1D mRNA translation. Consistent with this, we found that RBM38 directly binds to PPM1D 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) and promotes expression of a heterologous reporter gene that carries PPM1D 3'-UTR in a dose-dependent manner. Interestingly, we showed that PPM1D directly interacts with and dephosphorylates RBM38 at serine 195. Furthermore, we showed that PPM1D modulates p53 mRNA translation and p53-dependent growth suppression through dephosphorylation of RBM38. These findings provide evidence that the crosstalk between PPM1D and RBM38, both of which are targets and modulators of p53, has a critical role in p53 expression and activity.

Abstract

Today, energy conservation and reduction of consumption are crucial concerns for manufacturing companies. Current research on integrated scheduling of processing and assembly typically focuses only on equipment resources and processing and assembly processes. A new method for energy-saving integrated scheduling in workshops has been proposed, which incorporates the recently introduced time-of-use tiered electricity prices into the scheduling optimization model. This method also introduces an operation strategy of turning equipment on and off during idle periods. A multi-objective mathematical model was developed to minimize energy consumption and assembly delay time in the processing and assembly processes. Due to the complexity of the model, the standard firefly algorithm was improved when used to solve the model. This involved designing a three-layer encoding method and two decoding methods, and providing detailed steps of the algorithm. Using a mixed flow production line as an example, the final scheduling solutions were obtained through model construction and algorithm solving, taking into account the tiered electricity price. The results of the example demonstrate that parallel processing and assembly effectively reduce assembly delay costs, and the implementation of the on/off strategy reduces power consumption during the machining process. However, the molecular mechanism of “metabolic memory” (MM) remains unknown. In this report, we sought to screen at the whole transcriptome level the genes that participate in MM.Methods: In the present research, RNA sequencing was used to determine the protein-coding mRNA expression profiles of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) under normal-glucose concentration (LG), high-glucose concentration (HG), and MM. A series of bioinformatic analyses was performed. HG-induced MM-involved up-regulated genes (up-HGMMGs) and HG-induced MM-involved down-regulated genes (down-HGMMGs) were identified. Afterward, based on up-HGMMGs and down-HGMMGs, the biological functions and signaling pathways were analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). In addition, several of the identified genes were validated by RT-qPCR.Results: A total of 726 HGMMGs were identified, including 210 down- and 516 up-HGMMGs, which were enriched in the cell cycle (hsa04110), oocyte meiosis (hsa04114), p53 signaling pathway (hsa04115), and oxidative phosphorylation (hsa00190), among others. The protein–protein-interaction (PPI) network consisted of 462 nodes and 2656 connections, and four main modules were identified by MCODE. The cell cycle (hsa04110), oocyte meiosis (hsa04114), p53 signaling pathway (hsa04115), and oxidative phosphorylation (hsa00190), among others, could be potential therapeutic targets of HG-induced MM in endothelial cells. The real-time PCR results validated the RNA-seq data.Conclusion: This study identified crucial mRNAs related to MM-persistent injury in endothelial cells even after switching the cells from high- glucose to normal glucose levels. Abstract

This article discusses a case of acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis (ASPPC) in a 54-year-old Chinese woman. ASPPC is a rare ocular manifestation of syphilis characterized by sudden visual reduction and yellowish placoid retinal lesions. The incidence rates of syphilis infection have increased significantly in recent years, particularly among women and high-risk groups. The patient was treated with intramuscular benzathine penicillin, which resulted in the improvement of her symptoms. The article emphasizes the importance of testing for syphilis in patients presenting with acute chorioretinitis and highlights the need for contact tracing to prevent transmission and reinfection.
