Abstract
- This article discusses a case of acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis (ASPPC) in a 54-year-old Chinese woman. ASPPC is a rare ocular manifestation of syphilis characterized by sudden visual reduction and yellowish placoid retinal lesions. The incidence rates of syphilis infection have increased significantly in recent years, particularly among women and high-risk groups. The patient was treated with intramuscular benzathine penicillin, which resulted in the improvement of her symptoms. The article emphasizes the importance of testing for syphilis in patients presenting with acute chorioretinitis and highlights the need for contact tracing to prevent transmission and reinfection.
