To investigate the association between blood pressure and all-cause mortality in Shanxi, China.The '2002 China Nutrition and Health Survey' baseline data in Shanxi province was used. A retrospective investigation was performed in 2015. The effects of SBP and DBP on the all-cause mortality were analyzed using the Cox regression model. The hazard ratio (The follow-up rate was 76.52% over 13 years, while the cumulative mortality rate for all participants was 917.12/100,000 person-years. The mortality rose with an increasing SBP (Adults with SBP160 mmHg and DBP100 mmHg had a higher mortality risk. Sex and age difference was noted in both DBP and mortality risk.

Chinese opera movie is a special form of art developed from the combination of traditional Chinese opera and cinematographic art. The present study aimed to investigate early risk factors for hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP) in order to open up novel routes for its prevention and treatment. Demographics, laboratory data obtained within 48 h, enhanced computed tomography (CT) imaging data and the modified CT severity index (MCTSI) for 111 patients with HLAP who were assessed at Ordos Central Hospital (Ordos, China) between January 2015 and October 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Of these, 17 patients progressed to infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) and 14 patients progressed to organ failure (OF), the occurrence of which were the study outcomes. The patients were divided into pairs groups: IPN and non-IPN, as well as OF and non-OF, and differences between the groups were determined regarding various clinicopathological parameters. Furthermore, univariate and multivariate regression analyses were performed to identify parameters associated with the risk of progression to IPN or OP. On univariate analysis, the following parameters were deemed as being significantly associated with the risk of IPN: Serum calcium ions, C-reactive protein (CRP), extent of necrosis, procalcitonin (PTC) and the MCTSI. Furthermore, calcium ions, red cell distribution width (RDW), extent of necrosis and the MCTSI were significantly associated with the risk of OF on univariate analysis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis for these parameters then indicated that CRP (P=0.014), RDW (P=0.025) and the extent of necrosis (P=0.022) were significant and independent predictors of progression; thus, these are early risk factors for patients with HLAP. Receiver operating characteristic curves were generated to evaluate the predictive value of these factors, and the area under the curve for the three parameters was 0.863 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.646-0.886], 0.727 (95% CI, 0.651-0.803) and 0.833 (95% CI, 0.739-0.936), respectively. Therefore, CRP, RDW and the extent of necrosis are early predictive indexes for the risk of progression in HLAP.

Purpose: study neuropsychological features of patients with leukoaraiosis (LA), quantify the volume of nuclear magnetic resonance in the head by stereoscopy method and discuss its clinical significance. Method: divide into LA group and the contrast group according to MRI in the head. Quantify volume of nuclear magnetic resonance in the head in the LA group by stereoscopy method and analyze it by mini-mental state examination (MMSE), activities of daily life (ADL) and dangerous factors. Result: MSE grade of LA patients decreases obviously, indicating that LA patients have obstacles in general cognitive function. MMSE grade and ADL grade are in negative correlation. Different grades of LA are in positive correlation with its volume. Hypertension in the LA group stands at the first place and hyperlipidemia the second place. Conclusion: 1LA is closely related to hypertension. 2LA is closely related to declination of cognitive function and mainly influences cognitive functions such as memory, attention, computing ability and visual space etc; and LA is related to declination of activity ability in daily life. 3 Different grades of LA are in positive correlation with the volume and volume of LA is in positive correlation with cognitive obstacles and declining degree of activity ability of patients in daily life. 4 the relevance ratio of LA can be raised by MRI.Leukoaraiosis (LA) [1] is a group of clinical syndromes described by iconography caused by diverse pathogenesis. LA often causes declination of cognitive functions and is often regarded as an earlier sign for cerebral lesion since it mainly damages subcortex functions [2]. Stereoscopy method can calculate volume, length and superficial area of specific objects and regions [3].

Genome-wide association studies have identified susceptibility loci for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). We conducted a meta-analysis of all single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that showed nominally significant P-values in two previously published genome-wide scans that included a total of 2961 ESCC cases and 3400 controls. The meta-analysis revealed five SNPs at 2q33 with P5 × 10(-8), and the strongest signal was rs13016963, with a combined odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of 1.29 (1.19-1.40) and P= 7.63 × 10(-10). An imputation analysis of 4304 SNPs at 2q33 suggested a single association signal, and the strongest imputed SNP associations were similar to those from the genotyped SNPs. We conducted an ancestral recombination graph analysis with 53 SNPs to identify one or more haplotypes that harbor the variants directly responsible for the detected association signal. This showed that the five SNPs exist in a single haplotype along with 45 imputed SNPs in strong linkage disequilibrium, and the strongest candidate was rs10201587, one of the genotyped SNPs. Our meta-analysis found genome-wide significant SNPs at 2q33 that map to the CASP8/ALS2CR12/TRAK2 gene region. Variants in CASP8 have been extensively studied across a spectrum of cancers with mixed results. The locus we identified appears to be distinct from the widely studied rs3834129 and rs1045485 SNPs in CASP8. Future studies of esophageal and other cancers should focus on comprehensive sequencing of this 2q33 locus and functional analysis of rs13016963 and rs10201587 and other strongly correlated variants.

The theory of fiber Bragg grating demodulation system based on unbalanced Mach-Zehnder (M-Z) interferometer is introduced. A novel design for demodulation of fiber Bragg grating sensor system based on the LabView Software is proposed and demonstrated. The system is obtained by making use of piezoelectric ceramic (PZT) technology achieving phase carrier modulation. Carrier signal is collected by data acquisition card(DAQ), and the phase modulation of signal is detected by discrete fourier transform(DFT). It realizes real-time demodulation for multiplexed sensing system.

Starting from the governing equations for a quantum magnetoplasma including the electron spin −1/2 effects and quantum Bohm potential, we derive Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation of the system of quantum magnetohydrodynamics (QMHD). The amplitude and width of magnetosonic soliton with different parameters in the system are studied. It is found that the normalized Zeeman energy E plays a crucial role, for E ≥ 1 the amplitude rmξ and the width wξ of solitary wave all decrease as E increases. That is, the introduction of spin quantum force modifies the shape of solitary magnetosonic waves and makes them more narrower and shallower.

Here based on the combination of Comsol and the transmission matrix of Matlab, the spectrums of etched micro-structured gratings are simulated and two different modes of etched micro-structured fiber gratings are made in experiment. Etched micro-structured fiber grating is formed by using hydrofluoric acid (HF)-based wet chemical etching or femtosecond laser etching. This can reduce the clad layer along a standard grating partly or entirely and change the transmission feature of the grating. As a result, the thinner cladding layer changes the core propagation features and thus induces a phase delay on the guided mode, leading to the formation of a defect state inside the original grating band-gap in agreement with the phase shift grating theory. The defect state is mainly influenced by three parameters: the length and depth of the perturbation and the surrounding refractive index (SRI).

The CO-OFDM single-mode optical fiber system is constructed by the Matlab coupled with the Optisystem. And the influence of different channel algorithm on the receiver of system is researched. The simulation results show that the system performance is improved by using LS or LMMSE channel algorithm. And the LMMSE channel algorithm can provide better performance than the LS channel algorithm. Compared with LS algorithm, the required receiver OSNR is reduced by about 1 dB using improved LMMSE algorithm at bit-error-rate (BER) =10-4 in the CO-OFDM single-mode optical fiber system.

For the influence of the temperature and current, the power of semiconductor laser fluctuates constantly. So this paper comes up with a new method to solve this problem. The design of peripheral circuit contains two parts: temperature control and power control. The system of temperature control uses special laser temperature control chip, which realizes the accuracy of 0.01°C. The system of power control adopts hardware PI control, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, and temperature protection. Temperature compensation is added to the circuit, which realizes the accuracy of 0.01mW.

A stable narrow line-width dual-wavelength fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation with a high finesse ring filter is proposed and demonstrated. A polarization-dependent-isolator (PDI) and a section of polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) form an equivalent birefringent filter. Moreover, a ring filter can produce high finesse due to the weak gain generated by the EDF. As a result, two stable wavelengths are generated which both have about 18dB extinction ratio, 16dB side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) and 0.16nm 3dB line-width. Plus, less than 2 pm of the wavelengths shift and smaller than 0.4 dB of the optical power fluctuation when the system is operating in room environment for a period of 40 minutes indicate that the ultra narrow line-width fiber laser is very stable.

A multi-wavelength fiber laser with a narrow bandwidth based on an erbium-doped fiber ring filter and multimode fiber Bragg grating (MM-FBG) has been proposed, a high finesse fiber ring filter are introduced .The fiber ring filter consists of two optical couplers and a section of weak pumped erbium-doped fiber (EDF）. Thanks to the delay of cavity length and the gain generated by the EDF, the filter has spectral response with a high finesse. The incorporation of the fiber ring filter leads to the suppression of undesirable mode and makes the output laser narrower bandwidth. With 980 nm LD pumped, at the room temperature, the space of the two wavelengths is 0.07nm, which improved the effect of the filter.

A switchable fiber laser based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) and photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is demonstrated. A section of PCF in the fiber laser is used to induce four-wave mixings (FWM) effect and MZI acts as a comb filter. Experimental results show that stable single-wavelength, dual-wavelength and triple-wavelength operations can be obtained with the adjustment of the polarization controller. The power of two peaks of the dual-wavelength laser is almost the same under room temperature with an output power fluctuation less than 0.6dB. The advantages of the proposed fiber laser include quite stable wavelength and narrow linewidth owing to the contributions of FWM in the PCF.

An extrinsic Fabry-Perot (F-P) interferometric (EFPI) sensor by using simple etching and fusing method is proposed and demonstrated. The cavity is formed by wet chemical etching of multi-mode fiber (MMF) end face in hydrofluoric acid solutions, and then it is fused to the end of a single-mode fiber (SMF) to form an extrinsic F-P structure. The strain and temperature of EFPI sensor are studied experimentally. The experimental results show that the interference wavelength becomes 2.648nm longer while the strain increases from 0N to 637N, and the strain sensitivity is about 0.004nm/N, and linearity is 0.999. The interference wavelength becomes 0.032nm shorter while the temperature increases from 20°C to 100°C. This kind of sensor has the many advantages of easy fabrication, good reliability, high-repetition, small size, low cost and mass-production, which offers great prospect for sensing applications.

A new-type controllable slow light system based on a multi-stage delay Stimulated Brilliouin Scattering (SBS) structure is proposed. In this experiment, a shorter fiber (600 meters) is used to raise the Brillouin thresholds, and the pump power is also increased, therefore the unsaturated gain and the single-stage delay effect are enhanced. Moreover, the two fiber segments of slow light delay are cascaded by two circulators in the configuration, which can increase the delay time and the utilization rate of stokes signal during the experiment, the signal light which the power is-15dBm has acquired 51.299dB gain and the delay time is 55.333ns. Compared with the single-stage delay, the delay time has been increased.

We introduce an all-fiber sensor capable of simultaneous measurement of temperature and refractive index (RI). The sensor system consists of a single mode fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and a single-mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) structure which serves as a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), and the multimode fiber (MMF) is etched by hydrofluoric acid solution. The experimental results demonstrate that the temperature sensitivities of FBG and MZI are 0.016nm/°C and 0.093nm/°C, respectively, and the RI sensitivity of MZI achieves 226.25nm/RIU. The interesting properties of the sensor include compact size, high sensitivity and good operation linearity.

Li Dong Wang and colleagues report a genome wide association study for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in the Chinese population. They identify two risk loci at PLCE1 and C20orf54.

The pemG1 gene from Magnaporthe grisea was transferred into tobacco ( Nicotiana tobacum cv. Samsun NN) to test its functions. Plant expression vector pCAMBIA2300- Ubi-pemG1-Oc harboring elicitor-encoding gene pemG1 was constructed. The maize ubiquitin promoter/octopine synthase terminator system and kanamycin-resistant gene npt II were used for constitutive expression systems. The vector was then introduced into Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain AGL-1 with freeze-thaw method. Tobacco primary transformants were produced by leaf disc transformation. The kanamycin-resistant regenerated plants were confirmed to be electropositive by PCR. Integration and expression of the pemG1 gene were further confirmed by Southern blotting and Western blotting analyses. Transgenic tobacco plants of T 2 generation were successively inoculated with Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) at virus concentrations of 0.2 and 0.5 mg per leaf. In comparison with TMV-infected wild-type plants, PemG1-expressed plants displayed reduced hypersensitive-response lesions in both inoculation treatments. Furthermore, accumulation level of pemG1 steady-state transcripts was examined at 24 h after inoculation. The results indicated that the reduction of lesions corresponded to the accumulation of pemG1 steady-state transcripts as monitored by Northern blotting analysis. All these indicated that the expression of pemG1 in tobacco plants improved the resistance to TMV.

Objective To investigate the association between birth defects and dietary nutrient intake in a high risk area of China. Methods A dietary survey was performed and serum folic acid was measured in women whose pregnancy was affected by neural tube defects (NTDs) or unaffected by any birth defects (BDs) in Zhongyang and Jiaokou Counties in Shanxi Province of China. Results The local average consumption of foods including dark green vegetables, fruits, fat and meat, and nutrient intake ( e.g. energy, protein, retinol, riboflavin, vitamin E, and selenium) were lower than the national average level. In women of childbearing age, these regions, the intake of nutrients was much lower than the recommended nutrient intake (9%-77%). The case-control dietary nutrition study of women whose pregnancy was affected by BDs (including NTDs and congenital heart defects) demonstrated that, in early pregnancy, adequate nutrition ( i.e. eating meat, fresh vegetables, fruit more than once a week) was a protective factor, while eating germinated potatoes was a risk factor. The geometrical mean (p5-p95) of serum folic acid in women with NTD birth defects was 9.6 nmol/L (3.6, 23.03), which was significantly lower than that in normal women (14.03 nmol/L). Conclusion Women of childbearing age in the two counties of Shanxi Province, China, have a marked insufficient intake of some nutrients, especially folic acid, zinc, vitamins A and B12. This nutrient deficiency may be an important risk factor for the high prevalence of birth defects in these regions. Therefore, adequate dietary nutrition in early pregnancy can prevent BDs.

It is a potential danger for heavy trucks running on long and downgrade slopes, while these slopes are inevitable in mountainous terrain highway design. Recent statistics analysis shows that mountainous terrain highway traffic accidents mainly happened on the section of continuous downgrade slopes. Meanwhile, with the development of transportation industry, accidents frequency on continuous downgrade slopes has been increasing rapidly. The traffic safety on those slopes is becoming a social focus spot. In this paper, through investigating the traffic characteristics of domestic typical continuous downgrade slope sections, collecting the data of road technology parameters, truck loads, accidents, etc. the author made study on accident causes of truck brake-failure, and put forward safety counter measures for continuous downgrade slopes, considering existing methods, effects, and problems. 1. OVERVIEW Based on statistics, the mountainous and hilly areas account for about 43% of the total land in China. It is inevitable to set a continuous downgrade slope in mountainous highway design. An analysis of accident statistics shows that, highway or expressway, the accident frequency on continuous downgrade slope sections is much higher than on the other common sections, and most of them are serious or even cause death. In 2003, 29 dangerous road sections were confirmed and supervised by Ministry of Public Security and Administration of Work Safety. Among them, 16 sections are continuous downgrade slope, which is almost 55%. It is a severe transportation safety situation for continuous downgrade slope sections which caused most of the serious accidents. Construction of mountainous highways and the safety operation of continuous downgrade slope have become a social focus. After considering the economy and safety factors, a safe treatment of continuous downgrade slope section is proposed by analyzing

To investigate the efficacy of pressure reduction by peritoneal catheterization in patients with malignant ascites-induced abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS).Clinical data of 29 patients with malignant ascites-induced ACS from October 2002 to October 2008 were analyzed retrospectively. Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) was reduced by peritoneal catheterization. Changes of intra-abdominal pressure and ascites volume were observed during treatment. Clinical signs and urinary volume were monitored.IAP was less than 25 cm H(2)O in 2 cases, 25 to 35 cm H(2)O in 21 cases, more than 35 cm H(2)O in 6 cases. IAP decreased significantly after drainage of 1000 to 1500 ml of ascites, then IAP curve leveled off. With all the ascites drained, IAP maintained at 11 to 12 cm H(2)O and at 6 to 8 cm H(2)O after 24 hours. Blood pressure was stable without significant changes before and after IAP reduction (P0.05). The breathing rate and heart rate were improved, and 24 h urinary volume increased significantly after IAP reduction (P0.01).Early peritoneal catheterization can improve the cardiac, pulmonary, and renal function in malignant ascites-induced ACS.

We performed a genome-wide association study of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) by genotyping 1,077 individuals with ESCC and 1,733 control subjects of Chinese Han descent. We selected 18 promising SNPs for replication in an additional 7,673 cases of ESCC and 11,013 control subjects of Chinese Han descent and 303 cases of ESCC and 537 control subjects of Chinese Uygur-Kazakh descent. We identified two previously unknown susceptibility loci for ESCC: PLCE1 at 10q23 (P(Han combined for ESCC) = 7.46 x 10(-56), odds ratio (OR) = 1.43; P(Uygur-Kazakh for ESCC) = 5.70 x 10(-4), OR = 1.53) and C20orf54 at 20p13 (P(Han combined for ESCC) = 1.21 x 10(-11), OR = 0.86; P(Uygur-Kazakh for ESCC) = 7.88 x 10(-3), OR = 0.66). We also confirmed association in 2,766 cases of gastric cardia adenocarcinoma cases and the same 11,013 control subjects (PLCE1, P(Han for GCA) = 1.74 x 10(-39), OR = 1.55 and C20orf54, P(Han for GCA) = 3.02 x 10(-3), OR = 0.91). PLCE1 and C20orf54 have important biological implications for both ESCC and GCA. PLCE1 might regulate cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis and angiogenesis. C20orf54 is responsible for transporting riboflavin, and deficiency of riboflavin has been documented as a risk factor for ESCC and GCA.

By employing the quantum hydrodynamic model for electron—ion—dust plasma, we derive a dispersion relation of the quantum dusty plasma. The effects of the dust size distribution on the dispersion relation in a cold quantum dusty plasma are studied. Both analytical and numerical results are given to compare the differences between the dusty plasma by considering the dust size distribution and the mono-sized dusty plasma. It is shown that many system parameters can significantly influence the dispersion relation of the quantum dusty plasma.

1.5-µm-band wavelength converters based on cascaded χ(2) in periodically poled MgO:LiNbO3 (PPMGLN) waveguides are fabricated and studied for the first time. A conversion efficiency of -26 dB is obtained with the pump power of only 16 mW, which is compatible with the highest reported value of the PPLN wavelength converters based on nondoped substrates. The 3 dB conversion bandwidth is found to be as large as 68 nm for a 45-mm-long device.

Dear Editor: Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is a common consequence of small-bowel resection that is associated with severe malabsorption, malnutrition, imbalance of water electrolytes, and metabolism disorder. Patients with SBS always require long-term parenteral nutrition to support the transition and re-adaption of intestinal absorption for nutritional autonomy. The prognosis of SBS also depends on the anatomical identity of the residual small intestine and the length of the residual colon. Salvage of the ileocecal valve is also considered critical whereas individual differences exist. In cases when small-bowel resection is inevitable, the selection of the surgical procedure and management of post-operative nutrition appear to be of cardinal importance. However, factors that influence outcome and can guide surgical and post-operative management remain obscure because of the limited number of cases presented in literature. A 37-year-old man with abdominal angina 20 h after dinner was admitted to our department. He had abdominal distention and naupathia. The patient had a normal medical history, and there was no notable family history of relevant diseases. Physical examination showed abdominal bloating and tenderness, rebound tenderness, passive muscle tension, and an absence of bowel sounds. Enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) suggested superior mesenteric artery root embolism, enteric necrosis, and massive ascites. Other laboratory results were the following: white blood cell count (WBC) 30,000/μL, buffer excess −10, and an albumin of 27.7 g/L. While fluid resuscitation commenced, emergency laparotomy was performed under anesthesia and massive bloody ascites were observed. The intestine from the Treitz ligament to the transverse colon (jejunum, ileum, ileocecum, ascending colon, and the right of the transverse colon) presented in black. Gangrene had set in and became putrid with foul odor. No pulsation was observed with respect to the superior mesenteric artery root. The patient was diagnosed with embolism of the superior mesenteric artery, provoking extensive intestinal necrosis. Given that the disease onset was more than 24 h ago, the obvious systemic endotoxicity and the instability of vital signs, it was decided to perform the operation without prior angiogramic investigation. The necrotic bowel and mesentery were excised, proximal to the caesurae in the jejunum at the Treitz ligament and distal to the middle of the left transverse colon. End-to-side anastomosis of the duodenojejunal flexure and the left half of the transverse colon was carried out using a tube-type stapler. The cut at the transverse colon was then folded and bilaterally sutured. The patient was subsequently transferred to the intensive care unit, and nutritional support was administered through a subclavian vein catheter at 24 kcal/kg, mainly of Kabiven™ PI. On day 4 post-operation, the patient started defecating and the bowel was emptied of pre-operational material. Starting on day 14, the patient began taking fluid foods and gradually switched to normal solid food intake. The patient developed early complications including hypoproteinemia, hypokalemia, diarrhea, deep vein infection, and cholestatic hyper bile academia. The patient experienced Wernicke’s encephalopathy at 6 months post-operation manifested as different degrees of coma and was relieved by intravenous vitamin B1 supplementation. The patient is now (~10 months post-operation) autonomous with regard to both enteral and parenteral nutrition. He maintains a healthy weight and is in good mental state, awaiting small-bowel transplantation. The disease progression of acute superior mesenteric artery embolism proceeds rapidly, and immediate bowel resection is usually required which will result in SBS. The intestinal absorption area will be greatly reduced, and the transit time in intestine will be shorter, leading to serious malnutrition and disturbing uptake of water, electrolytes, and trace elements. The SBS-associated mortality is high, particularly after total small-bowel resection, and survival depends largely on appropriate post-operative parenteral nutrition support. In addition, strategies chosen for digestive tract reconstruction and manipulation to prevent complications are also critical to patient survival. Unfortunately, no clear guidelines, especially with regard to surgery, have been defined although successful digestive tract reconstruction through duodenal colostomy, stomach transverse anastomosis, and duodenal transverse anastomosis has been described. The present case offers a further contribution in this respect. Important to note in the context of the current case is that the initial emergency operation revealed necrosis of the entire small intestine and the right colon of the patient. Given this life-threatening condition, resection of the midgut, including the whole small bowel and right colon, was decided upon. The team then was confronted with two surgical options, to perform duodenal colostomy or to perform digestive tract reconstruction. The first is to close the end of the residual transverse colon but needs a second reconstructive operation. We thought that closing the residual end of the duodenum might result in the formation of an artificial blind loop. Jejunum resection at the Treitz ligament of the duodenum would also make it difficult to exteriorize sufficient duodenum outside the abdominal wall for fistulation. In addition, as energy scavenging and fluid absorption critically depend on absorption in the colon, duodenum fistulation may cause severe loss of digestive juice, resulting in unmanageable water and electrolyte problems. The possible reflux of bile and other pancreatic secretions into the stomach and subsequent re-entry into the colon may also bring obvious post-operative discomfort. Hence, we favored immediate digestive tract reconstruction. Our success in dealing with the pathology at hand suggests that in future cases this may be an appropriate strategy. In order to prevent anastomotic fistula, we first resected the Treitz ligament to mobilize sufficient duodenum and to ensure that the anastomosis would not be subjected to significant tension. The end-to-side anastomosis of the duodenum and transverse colon would also warrant good blood circulation. The application of a tube-shaped anastomat and intermittent full-thickness stitching with absorbable suturing further reinforced the anastomosis. These operations ensured no anastomotic leakage during the post-operative course and guaranteed the patient’s safety. The patient began eating food at 2 weeks post-surgery with no nausea and vomiting reported, suggesting no regurgitation of bile and pancreatic juice. Digestive tract imaging showed normal gastric emptying. The patient started post-operative defecation (five to eight times per day) and feeding fast. The diarrhea could be tolerated and did not require the use of antidiarrhea medication. Electrolyte levels were controllable through regular electrolyte supplementation while parental protein supplementation was also necessary. No severe weight loss was observed. In conclusion, our case showed that duodenal transverse anastomosis may be considered for some patients. This surgery is associated with relatively easy post-operative management and can serve as a bridge to small-bowel transplantation. With parental nutrition support, our patient maintained a good quality of life so far up to 10 months. A long-term follow-up is needed to evaluate the outcome of this surgery in the clinical management of SBS.
