Background: The objectives of this study were twofold: (1) to compare gait characteristics between cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) patients with low-risk oral frailty (OF) and high-risk OF, particularly during dual-task walking (DTW); (2) to investigate the association of OF, the gait characteristics of DTW, and falls among older adults patients with CSVD., Methods: A total of 126 hospitalized patients diagnosed with CSVD were recruited and classified into a low-risk group (n = 90) and a high-risk group (n = 36) based on OF status in our study. Comprehensive data pertaining to basic parameters (cadence, as well as stride time, velocity and length), variability, asymmetry, and coordination were gathered during both single-task walking (STW) and DTW. Additionally, the number of falls was calculated. Subsequently, t-test or chi-squared test was used for comparison between the two groups. Furthermore, linear regression analysis was employed to elucidate the association of the OF index-8 score and gait parameters during cognitive DTW. Also, logistic regression models were utilized to assess the independent association of OF risk and falls., Results: During cognitive DTW, the high-risk group demonstrated inferior performance in terms of basic parameters (p < 0.01), coefficient of variation (CV) of velocity and stride length (p < 0.05), as well as phase coordination index (PCI) when compared with the low-risk group (p < 0.05). Notably, differences in basic gait parameters were observed in cognitive DTW and STW conditions between the two groups (p < 0.01). However, only the high-risk group evinced significant variations in CV and PCI during cognitive DTW, as opposed to those during STW (p < 0.05). Furthermore, our findings also revealed the association of OF, the gait characteristics of cognitive DTW, (p < 0.01) and falls (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: CSVD patients with a high risk of OF need to pay more attention to their gait variability or coordination. Also, they are recommended to undergo training involving dual-task activities while walking in daily life, thereby reducing the deterioration and mitigating the risk of falls. Excitons are the neutral quasiparticles that form when Coulomb interactions create bound states between electrons and holes. Due to their bosonic nature, excitons are expected to condense and exhibit superfluidity at sufficiently low temperatures. In interacting Chern insulators, excitons may inherit the nontrivial topology and quantum geometry from the underlying electron wavefunctions. We theoretically investigate the excitonic bound states and superfluidity in flat-band insulators pumped with light. We find that the exciton wavefunctions exhibit vortex structures in momentum space, with the total vorticity being equal to the difference of Chern numbers between the conduction and valence bands. Moreover, both the exciton binding energy and the exciton superfluid density are proportional to the Brillouin-zone average of the quantum metric and the Coulomb potential energy per unit cell. Spontaneous emission of circularly polarized light from radiative decay is a detectable signature of the exciton vorticity. We propose that the vorticity can also be experimentally measured via the nonlinear anomalous Hall effect, whereas the exciton superfluidity can be detected by voltage-drop quantization through a combination of quantum geometry and Aharonov-Casher effect. The pyroptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells leads to tubular loss and inflammation and then promotes renal fibrosis. The transcription factor Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) can bidirectionally regulate the transcription of target genes. Our previous study revealed that sustained elevation of KLF4 is responsible for the transition of acute kidney injury (AKI) into chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal fibrosis. In this study, we explored the upstream mechanisms of renal tubular epithelial cell pyroptosis from the perspective of posttranslational regulation and focused on the transcription factor KLF4. Mice were subjected to unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) surgery and euthanized on D7 or D14 for renal tissue harvesting. We showed that the pyroptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells mediated by both the Caspase-1/GSDMD and Caspase-3/GSDME pathways was time-dependently increased in UUO mouse kidneys. Furthermore, we found that the expression of the transcription factor KLF4 was also upregulated in a time-dependent manner in UUO mouse kidneys. Tubular epithelial cell-specific Klf4 knockout alleviated UUO-induced pyroptosis and renal fibrosis. In Ang II-treated mouse renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (MTECs), we demonstrated that KLF4 bound to the promoter regions of Caspase-3 and Caspase-1 and directly increased their transcription. In addition, we found that ubiquitin-specific protease 11 (USP11) was increased in UUO mouse kidneys. USP11 deubiquitinated KLF4. Knockout of Usp11 or pretreatment with the USP11 inhibitor mitoxantrone (3 mg/kg, i.p., twice a week for two weeks before UUO surgery) significantly alleviated the increases in KLF4 expression, pyroptosis and renal fibrosis. These results demonstrated that the increased expression of USP11 in renal tubular cells prevents the ubiquitin degradation of KLF4 and that elevated KLF4 promotes inflammation and renal fibrosis by initiating tubular cell pyroptosis., (© 2024. Monitoring the effector function of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) in vivo remains a great challenge. Here, we develop a chemistry-enabled enzymatic labeling approach to evaluate the tumor-specific immune response of CTLs by precisely monitoring the interaction between CTLs and tumor cells. Staphylococcus aureus sortase A (SrtA) is linked to the CTL surface through bioconjugate chemistry and then catalyzes the transfer of fluorescent-labeled substrate, 5-Tamra-LPETG, to CTLs. Meanwhile, the tumor cells are specifically decorated with N-terminal glycine residues (G 5 peptide) through the inherent glycolmetabolism of cathepsin B-specific cleavable triacetylated N -azidoacetyl-d-mannosamine (CB-Ac 3 ManNAz) and click chemistry. After the infiltration of engineered CTLs into the tumor tissues, the immune-synapse-mediated specific interaction of CTLs and tumor cells leads to the accurate fluorescent labeling of tumor cells through the SrtA-catalyzed 5-Tamra-LPETG transfer. Therefore, the immune effect of CTLs as well as the performance of immune drugs can be determined, providing a novel strategy for pushing ahead immunotherapy.

Objectives: To analyze the rules of acupoint selection in treatment of cancer-related insomnia with acupuncture and moxibustion by data mining technology., Methods: The articles of cancer-related insomnia treated with acupuncture and moxibustion were searched from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, WOS, Cochrane, and Embase databases, from the inception of each database to January 5, 2024. The prescription database of acupuncture and moxibustion for cancer-related insomnia was established. The descriptive analysis was conducted on the use frequency, meridian tropism and distribution of acupoints. Using SPSS Modeler 18.0 Apriori algorithm, the association rules of acupoint prescriptions were analyzed. With Cytoscape3.9.1 software used, the complex network diagram was plotted, and the cluster analysis of high-frequency acupoints was performed by SPSS26.0 software., Results: Forty-one articles were included, and 67 prescriptions were extracted with 89 acupoints involved, and the total use frequency was 447 times. The top 4 acupoints of the high use frequency were Baihui (GV20), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Shenmen (HT7) and Shenting (GV24). The included meridians were the governor vessel, the spleen meridian, the bladder meridian, the conception vessel, the heart meridian and the stomach meridian. The selected acupoints were mostly distributed on the head, the neck and and the upper and lower limbs. The special acupoints of the high use frequency included the five- Shu points, the crossing points and yuan -primordial points. Regarding acupoint combination, GV24, SP6, HT7, and GV20 were highly correlated. The three effective clusters were categorized among the top 12 acupoints of the high use frequency., Conclusions: In treatment of cancer-related insomnia with acupuncture and moxibustion, the principle focuses on supporting the healthy qi , eliminating pathogens, regulating yin and yang , promoting the circulation of the governor vessel for regulating the spirit, and tranquilizing the mind. The core acupoint prescription may includes GV24, SP6, HT7 and GV20；combined with Zusanli (ST36) and Yintang (GV4 + ) to enhance the therapeutic effect.

As the incidence of endometrial cancer (EC) and atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) has been increasing, and has shown young trend. It is crucial to study the fertility-preserving treatment of endometrial lesions and fertility-promoting protocols. Age, obesity, and irregular ovulation are not only high-risk factors for endometrial lesions but also key factors affecting female fertility. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) can significantly improve pregnancy outcomes in patients with AEH and EC after conservative treatment. Based on the existing studies, this article reviews the progress of research on pregnancy outcomes of ART and its influencing factors in such patients. Nanodelivery systems (NDSs) provide promising prospects for decreasing drug doses, reducing side effects, and improving therapeutic effects. However, the bioapplications of NDSs are still compromised by their fast clearance, indiscriminate biodistribution, and limited tumor accumulation. Hence, engineering modification of NDSs aiming at promoting tumor-specific therapy and avoiding systemic toxicity is usually needed. An NDS integrating various functionalities, including flexible camouflage, specific biorecognition, and sensitive stimuli-responsiveness, into one sequence would be "smart" and highly effective. Herein, we systematically summarize the related principles, methods, and progress. Cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury increases blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability, leading to hemorrhagic transformation and brain edema. Normobaric oxygen (NBO) is a routine clinical treatment strategy for this condition. However, its neuroprotective effects remain controversial. This study investigated the effect of different NBO concentrations on I/R injury and explores the involvement of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway in the underlying mechanism. A mouse middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model, and an oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) model featuring mouse brain microvascular endothelial cells (ECs) called bEnd.3, were used to investigate the effect of NBO on I/R injury. A reactive oxygen species (ROS) inducer and Nrf2-knockdown by RNA were used to explore whether the Nrf2 pathway mediates the effect of NBO on cerebrovascular ECs. In the early stage of MCAO, 40% O 2 NBO exposure significantly improved blood perfusion in the ischemic area and effectively relieved BBB permeability, cerebral edema, cerebral injury, and neurological function after MCAO. In the OGD model, 40% O 2 NBO exposure significantly reduced apoptosis, inhibited ROS generation, reduced ER stress, upregulated the expression of tight junction proteins, and stabilized the permeability of ECs. Blocking the Nrf2 pathway nullified the protective effect of 40% O 2 NBO on ECs after OGD. Finally, our study confirmed that low concentrations of NBO have a neuroprotective effect on I/R by activating the Nrf2 pathway in ECs., (© 2023. Background and Objectives: It is recommended by Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia to early identify people at risk for sarcopenia using simple screening tools like SARC-F. The modified version SARC-F+EBM showed higher diagnostic performance. However, this cut-off value of body mass index (BMI) remained uncertain to be used in Chinese population. In this study, we used appropriate BMI recommended for Chinese older population and further modified SARC-F+EBM by combining calf circumference., Methods and Study Design: Diagnostic tests were performed and the receiver operating characteristics analyses were conducted between the SARC-F, SARC-F+EBM (cut-off of BMI: ≤ 21 kg/m2), SARC-F+EBM (CN) (cut-off of BMI: ≤ 22 kg/m2), SARC-CalF and SARC-CalF+EBM (CN) (cut-off of BMI: ≤ 22 kg/m2) in 1660 community-dwelling participants aged ≥ 65 years from China., Results: The participants had an average age of 71.7±5.1 years, of which 56.8% were women. All the modified models could enhance the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of original SARC-F (all p<0.001). The SARC-F+EBM (CN) also showed a significantly higher sensitivity of 47.4% (p<0.001) and an AUC of 0.809 (p=0.005) than SARC-F+EBM. SARC-CalF+EBM (CN) was validated to be of great diagnostic value of the highest AUC of 0.88 among these sarcopenia screening tools, including SARC-F, SARC-CalF and SARC-F+EBM (CN) (all p<0.001). Using this study population as a reference, the optimal cut-off value of SARC-CalF+EBM (CN) is ≥12 points, with a sensitivity of 79.3% and a specificity of 80.7%., Conclusions: The SARC-F+EBM (CN) and SARC-CalF+EBM (CN) could enhance the diagnostic performance of SARC-F and SARC-F+EBM and are suitable sarcopenia screening tools for Chinese population., Competing Interests: The authors declare no personal or financial conflicts of interest

A phytochemical investigation on the alkaloid fractions of Sophora alopecuroides L. led to the production of 11 undescribed matrine-type alkaloids, sophaloseedlines I-S (1-11), 12 known analogs (12-23), and an unexpected artificial matrine-derived Al(III) complex (24). The corresponding structures were elucidated by the interpretation of spectroscopic analyses, quantum chemical calculation, and six instances (1-4, 18, and 24), verified by X-ray crystallography. The biological activities screening demonstrated that none of the isolates exhibited cytotoxicity against four human cancer cell lines (HepG2, A549, THP-1, and MCF-7) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) at 50 μM, while moderate anti-inflammatory activity with IC 50 value from 15.6 to 47.8 μM was observed. The key structure-activity relationships of those matrine-type alkaloids for anti-inflammatory effects have been summarized. Organic near-infrared room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials offer remarkable advantages in bioimaging due to their characteristic time scales and background noise elimination. However, developing near-infrared RTP materials for deep tissue imaging still faces challenges since the small band gap may increase the non-radiative decay, resulting in weak emission and short phosphorescence lifetime. In this study, fused-ring pyrrole-based structures were employed as the guest molecules for the construction of long wavelength emissive RTP materials. Compared to the decrease of the singlet energy level, the triplet energy level showed a more effectively decrease with the increase of the conjugation of the substituent groups. Moreover, the sufficient conjugation of fused ring structures in the guest molecule suppresses the non-radiative decay of triplet excitons. Therefore, a near-infrared RTP material (764 nm) was achieved for deep penetration bioimaging. Tumor cell membrane is used to coat RTP nanoparticles (NPs) to avoid decreasing the RTP performance compared to traditional coating by amphiphilic surfactants. RTP NPs with tumor-targeting properties show favorable phosphorescent properties, superior stability, and excellent biocompatibility. These NPs are applied for time-resolved luminescence imaging to eliminate background interference with excellent tissue penetration. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a worldwide public health problem characterized by the massive loss of tubular cells. However, the precise mechanism for initiating tubular cell death has not been fully elucidated. Here, we reported that phosphoglycerate mutase 5 (PGAM5) was upregulated in renal tubular epithelial cells during ischaemia/reperfusion or cisplatin-induced AKI in mice. PGAM5 knockout significantly alleviated the activation of the mitochondria-dependent apoptosis pathway and tubular apoptosis. Apoptosis inhibitors alleviated the activation of the mitochondria-dependent apoptosis pathway. Mechanistically, as a protein phosphatase, PGAM5 could dephosphorylate Bax and facilitate Bax translocation to the mitochondrial membrane. The translocation of Bax to mitochondria increased membrane permeability, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and facilitated the release of mitochondrial cytochrome c (Cyt c) into the cytoplasm. Knockdown of Bax attenuated PGAM5 overexpression-induced Cyt c release and tubular cell apoptosis. Our results demonstrated that the increase in PGAM5-mediated Bax dephosphorylation and mitochondrial translocation was implicated in the development of AKI by initiating mitochondrial Cyt c release and activating the mitochondria-dependent apoptosis pathway. Introduction: Renal fibrosis (RF), being the most important pathological change in the progression of CKD, is currently assessed by the evaluation of a biopsy. This present study aimed to apply a novel functional MRI (fMRI) protocol named amide proton transfer (APT) weighting to evaluate RF noninvasively., Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were initially subjected to bilateral kidney ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), unilateral ureteral obstruction, and sham operation, respectively. All rats underwent APT mapping on the 7th and 14th days after operation. Besides, 26 patients underwent renal biopsy at the Nephrology Department of Shanghai Tongji Hospital between July 2022 and May 2023. Patients underwent APT and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mappings within 1 week before biopsy. MRI results of both patients and rats were calculated by comparing with gold standard histology for fibrosis assessment., Results: In animal models, the cortical APT (cAPT) and medullary APT (mAPT) values were positively correlated with the degree of RF. Compared to the sham group, IRI group showed significantly increased cAPT and mAPT values on the 7th and 14th days after surgery, but no group differences were found in ADC values. Similar results were found in human patients. Cortical/medullary APT values were significantly increased in patients with moderate-to-severe fibrosis than in patients with mild fibrosis. ROC curve analysis indicated that APT value displayed a better diagnostic value for RF. Furthermore, combination of cADC and cAPT improved fibrosis detection by imaging variables alone (p &lt; 0.1)., Conclusion: APT values had better diagnostic capability at early stage of RF compared to ADC values, and the addition of APT imaging to conventional ADC will significantly improve the diagnostic performance for predicting kidney fibrosis., (© 2024 S. Background: Radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation of para-Hisian accessory pathways (APs) can be challenging due to proximity to the conduction system., Methods: A total of 30 consecutive patients with para-Hisian AP were enrolled for ablation in three centers, 12 (40%) of whom had previously failed attempted ablation from the inferior vena cava (IVC) approach. Ablation was preferentially performed using a superior approach from the superior vena cava (SVC) in all patients., Results: The para-Hisian AP was eliminated from the SVC approach in 28 of 30 (93.3%) patients. In the remaining two patients, additional ablation from IVC was required to successfully eliminate the AP. There were two patients experienced reversible complete atrial-ventricular block and PR prolongation during the first RF application. Long-term freedom from recurrent arrhythmia was achieved in 29 (96.7%) patients over a mean follow-up duration of 15.6 ± 4.6 months., Conclusion: Catheter ablation of para-Hisian AP from above using a direct SVC approach is both safe and effective, and should be considered especially in patients who have failed conventional ablation attempts from IVC approach., (© 2023 The Authors. As natural adjuvants, the bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMV) hold great potential in cancer vaccines. However, the inherent immunotoxicity of OMV and the rarity of tumor-specific antigens seriously hamper the clinical translation of OMV-based cancer vaccines. Herein, metal-phenolic networks (MPNs) are used to attenuate the toxicity of OMV, meanwhile, provide tumor antigens via the chemodynamic effect induced immunogenic cell death (ICD). Specifically, MPNs are assembled on the OMV surface through the coordination reaction between ferric ions and tannic acid. The iron-based "prison" is locally collapsed in the tumor microenvironment (TME) with both low pH and high ATP features, and thus the systemic toxicity of OMV is significantly attenuated. The released ferric ions in TME promote the ICD of cancer cells through Fenton reaction and then the generation of abundant tumor antigens, which can be used to fabricate in-situ vaccines by converging with OMV. Monitoring the highly dynamic and complex immune response remains a great challenge owing to the lack of reliable and specific approaches. Here, we develop a strategy to monitor the cascade of tumor immune response through the cooperation of pore-forming alginate gel with chemoenzymatic proximity-labeling. A macroporous gel containing tumor-associated antigens, adjuvants, and pro-inflammatory cytokines is utilized to recruit endogenous DCs and enhance their maturation in vivo. The mature DCs are then modified with GDP-fucose-fucosyltransferase (GDP-Fuc-Fuct) via the self-catalysis of fucosyltransferase (Fuct). Following the migration of the obtained Fuct-DCs to the draining lymph nodes (dLNs), the molecular recognition mediated interaction of DCs and T cells leads to the successful decoration of T cells with GDP-Fuc-azide through the Fuct catalyzed proximity-labeling. Background: Remote ischemic perconditioning (RIPerC) has been demonstrated to protect grafts from hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). This study investigated the role of exosomes in RIPerC of liver grafts in rats., Methods: Twenty-five rats (including 10 donors) were randomly divided into five groups (n = 5 each group): five rats were used as sham-operated controls (Sham), ten rats were for orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT, 5 donors and 5 recipients) and ten rats were for OLT + RIPerC (5 donors and 5 recipients). Liver architecture and function were evaluated., Results: Compared to the OLT group, the OLT + RIPerC group exhibited significantly improved liver graft histopathology and liver function (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the number of exosomes and the level of P-Akt were increased in the OLT + RIPerC group., Conclusions: RIPerC effectively improves graft architecture and function, and this protective effect may be related to the increased number of exosomes. The responses of patients to tumor therapies vary due to tumor heterogeneity. Tumor stratification has been attracting increasing attention for accurately distinguishing between responders to treatment and non-responders. Nanoprobes with unique physical and chemical properties have great potential for patient stratification. This review begins by describing the features and design principles of nanoprobes that can visualize specific cell types and biomarkers and release inflammatory factors during or before tumor treatment. Then, we focus on the recent advancements in using nanoprobes to stratify various therapeutic modalities, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy (RT), photothermal therapy (PTT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), chemodynamic therapy (CDT), ferroptosis, and immunotherapy. The main challenges and perspectives of nanoprobes in cancer stratification are also discussed to facilitate probe development and clinical applications.

Josephson tunneling in twisted cuprate junctions provides a litmus test for the pairing symmetry, which is fundamental for understanding the microscopic mechanism of high temperature superconductivity. This issue is rekindled by experimental advances in van der Waals stacking and the proposal of an emergent d+id-wave. So far, all experiments have been carried out on Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+x (Bi-2212) with double CuO 2 planes but show controversial results. Here, we investigate junctions made of Bi 2 Sr 2-x La x CuO 6+y (Bi-2201) with single CuO 2 planes. Our on-site cold stacking technique ensures uncompromised crystalline quality and stoichiometry at the interface. Junctions with carefully calibrated twist angles around 45° show strong Josephson tunneling and conventional temperature dependence. Furthermore, we observe standard Fraunhofer diffraction patterns and integer Fiske steps in a junction with a twist angle of 45.0±0.2°. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to threaten human health, economic development, and national security. Although many vaccines and drugs have been explored to fight against the major pandemic, their efficacy and safety still need to be improved. Cell-based biomaterials, especially living cells, extracellular vesicles, and cell membranes, offer great potential in preventing and treating COVID-19 owing to their versatility and unique biological functions. In this review, the characteristics and functions of cell-based biomaterials and their biological applications in COVID-19 prevention and therapy are described. First the pathological features of COVID-19 are summarized, providing enlightenment on how to fight against COVID-19. Next, the classification, organization structure, characteristics, and functions of cell-based biomaterials are focused on. Finally, the progress of cell-based biomaterials in overcoming COVID-19 in different aspects, including the prevention of viral infection, inhibition of viral proliferation, anti-inflammation, tissue repair, and alleviation of lymphopenia are comprehensively described. In this work, a dual-band transmissive polarization conversion metasurface (PCM), with omnidirectional polarization and low profile, is proposed. The periodic unit of the PCM is composed of three metal layers separated by two substrates. The upper patch layer of the metasurface is the patch-receiving antenna, while the bottom layer is the patch-transmitting antenna. Both antennas are arranged in an orthogonal way so that the cross-polarization conversion can be realized. The equivalent circuit analysis, structure design, and experimental demonstration are conducted in detail, the polarization conversion rate (PCR) is greater than 90% within two frequency bands of 4.58-4.69 GHz and 5.33-5.41 GHz, and the PCR at two center operating frequencies of 4.64 GHz and 5.37 GHz is as high as 95%, with a thickness of only 0.062λL, where λL is the free space wavelength at the lowest operating frequency. The PCM can realize a cross-polarization conversion, when the incident linearly polarized wave at an arbitrary polarization azimuth, which indicates that it has the characteristics of omnidirectional polarization.

The intrinsic features and functions of platelets and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) indicate their great potential in the treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, neither of them can completely overcome ICH because of the stealth process and the complex pathology of ICH. Here, we fabricate hybrid cells for versatile and highly efficient ICH therapy by fusing MSCs with platelets and loading with lysophosphatidic acid-modified PbS quantum dots (LPA-QDs). The obtained LPA-QDs@FCs (FCs = fusion cells) not only inherit the capabilities of both platelets and MSCs but also exhibit clearly enhanced proliferation activated by LPA. After systemic administration, many proliferating LPA-QDs@FCs rapidly accumulate in ICH areas for responding to the vascular damage and inflammation and then efficiently prevent both the primary and secondary injuries of ICH but with no obvious side effects. Moreover, the treatment process can be tracked by near-infrared II fluorescence imaging with highly spatiotemporal resolution, providing a promising solution for ICH therapy.

Mitochondria are crucial for both sonodynamic therapy and antitumor immunity. However, how to accurately damage mitochondria and meanwhile prevent the mitophagy and immune checkpoint inhibition is still a great challenge. Herein, hexyl 5-aminolevulinate hydrochloride (HAL) and 3-methyladenine (3MA) are loaded into the tumor cell-derived microparticle (X-MP), which can direct the target delivery of the prepared HAL/3MA@X-MP to the tumor cells. HAL induces the confined biosynthesis and accumulation of sonosensitizer PpIX in mitochondria, leading to the localized generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon ultrasound irradiation and, thus, the efficient mitochondrial damage. Meanwhile, 3MA not only inhibits mitophagy but also down-regulates the PD-L1 expression, promoting the immunogenic cell death (ICD) while blocking the immune checkpoint recognition. The smart synergism of precise mitochondrial damage, mitophagy inhibition and antitumor immunity results in potent therapeutic efficacy without obvious side effects.

Objective: To analyse the specific exercise effects of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) with or without biofeedback or electrical stimulation on urinary incontinence rehabilitation after radical prostatectomy., Data Sources: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Web of Science and Scopus databases for systematic reviews and meta-analyses on PFMT for urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy from inception to 3 October 2022., Review Methods: Two authors independently extracted key data from the included studies. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the A Measure Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews-2 checklist. Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation was used to evaluate the quality of the outcomes., Results: A total of 18 studies with 29,925 patients were included, all of which were of critically low methodological quality. Biofeedback therapy seemed to show additional benefits compared to PFMT alone; however, the adjunctive role of electrical stimulation remained more controversial due to the lack of strong evidence. Preoperative PFMT sometimes, but not always, showed the potential to improve urinary incontinence. PFMT with the guidance of a therapist could bring some benefits to the patient and was more acceptable to the patient, but consumed some medical resources., Conclusions: PFMT has a good effect on improving post-radical prostatectomy incontinence in men, and biofeedback can have an additional beneficial effect on patients, especially in the short-term and medium-term. However, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that electrical stimulation is beneficial for patients with urinary incontinence.

Efferocytosis inhibition is emerging as an attractive strategy for antitumor immune therapy because of the subsequent leak of abundant immunogenic contents. However, the practical efficacy is seriously impeded by the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironments. Here, we construct a versatile nanosystem that can not only inhibit the efferocytosis but also boost the following antitumor immunity. MerTK inhibitor UNC2025 is loaded into the bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), which are then modified with maleimide (mU@OMVs). The prepared mU@OMVs effectively inhibits the efferocytosis by promoting the uptake while preventing the MerTK phosphorylation of tumor associated macrophages, and then captures the released antigens through forming universal thioether bonds. The obtained in situ vaccine effectively transfers to lymph nodes by virtue of the intrinsic features of OMVs, and then provokes intense immune responses that can efficiently prevent the growth, metastasis and recurrence of tumors in mice, providing a generalizable strategy for cancer immunotherapy., (© 2023. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is regarded as a key factor in promoting renal fibrosis during chronic kidney disease (CKD). Signaling transduction of TGF-β1 starts with binding to TGF-β type II receptor (Tgfbr2), a constitutively activated kinase that phosphorylates TGF-β type I receptor (Tgfbr1), and then activates downstream Smad2/3 or noncanonical pathways. Previous studies show that cellular senescence is associated with the progression of CKD, and accelerated tubular cell senescence is implicated in promoting renal fibrosis. In the present study we investigated the renal parenchymal cell senescence in fibrosis from the sight of posttranslational regulation and focused on Tgfbr2, the important gatekeeper for TGF-β1 downstream signaling. In mice with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) and folic acid (FA)-induced fibrotic kidneys, we found that Tgfbr2 was markedly elevated without obvious change in its mRNA levels. As an important member of deubiquitinating enzymes, ubiquitin-specific protease 11 (Usp11) was also significantly increased in fibrotic kidneys, and co-distributed with Tgfbr2 in tubular epithelial cells. Pretreatment with Usp11 inhibitor mitoxantrone (MTX, 30 mg · kg -1  · d -1 , i.p.) twice a week, for 2 weeks significantly attenuated the elevation of Tgfbr2, activation in downstream senescence-related signaling pathway, as well as renal senescence and fibrosis. In cultured mouse tubular epithelial cells (MTECs), treatment with angiotensin II (Ang-II, 10 -7 , 10 -6  M) dose-dependently elevated both Tgfbr2 and Usp11 levels. Inhibition or knockdown on Usp11 attenuated Ang-II-induced elevation in Tgfbr2 level, and attenuated the activation of downstream senescent-related signaling pathway and as well as cell senescence. We conducted Co-IP experiments, which revealed that Usp11 was able to interact with Tgfbr2, and inhibition of Usp11 increased the ubiquitination of Tgfbr2. Taken together, these results demonstrate that the elevation of Usp11 under pathological condition is implicated in promoting renal fibrosis. Usp11 promotes the development of renal fibrosis by deubiquitinating Tgfbr2, reducing Tgfbr2 ubiquitination degradation, and then facilitating the activation of downstream senescent signaling pathway., (© 2022. Background: To explore the geographical pattern and temporal trend of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) epidemiology from 1990 to 2019, and perform a bibliometric analysis of risk factors for ASD., Methods: In this study, ASD epidemiology was estimated with prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of 204 countries and territories by sex, location, and sociodemographic index (SDI). Age-standardized rate (ASR) and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) were used to quantify ASD temporal trends. Besides, the study performed a bibliometric analysis of ASD risk factors since 1990. Publications published were downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and were analyzed using CiteSpace., Results: Globally, there were estimated 28.3 million ASD prevalent cases (ASR, 369.4 per 100,000 populations), 603,790 incident cases (ASR, 9.3 per 100,000 populations) and 4.3 million DALYs (ASR, 56.3 per 100,000 populations) in 2019. Increases of autism spectrum disorders were noted in prevalent cases (39.3%), incidence (0.1%), and DALYs (38.7%) from 1990 to 2019. Age-standardized rates and EAPC showed stable trend worldwide over time. A total of 3,991 articles were retrieved from Web of Science, of which 3,590 were obtained for analysis after removing duplicate literatures. "Rehabilitation", "Genetics & Heredity", "Nanoscience & Nanotechnology", "Biochemistry & Molecular biology", "Psychology", "Neurosciences", and "Environmental Sciences" were the hotspots and frontier disciplines of ASD risk factors., Conclusions: Disease burden and risk factors of autism spectrum disorders remain global public health challenge since 1990 according to the GBD epidemiological estimates and bibliometric analysis. The findings help policy makers formulate public health policies concerning prevention targeted for risk factors, early diagnosis and life-long healthcare service of ASD. Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) alone for persistent atrial fibrillation (PersAF) remains controversial. The characteristics of cryoballoon ablation (CBA) to treat PersAF and the blanking period recurrence are underreported., Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed patients with PersAF undergoing second-generation CBA for de novo PVI. The post-procedural efficacy and survival analysis were compared between patients with different PersAF durations. The multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to detect the risk factors for recurrence. Early and long-term recurrence were analyzed relative to each other., Results: A total of 329 patients were enrolled, with a median PersAF duration of 4.0 months (interquartile range: 2.0-12.0 months); 257 patients (78.1%) were male. Kaplan-Meier analysis of freedom from atrial fibrillation recurrence at 12, 24, and 30 months showed 71.0%, 58.5%, and 54.9%, respectively. Early PersAF had a relatively favorable survival rate and a narrow P-wave duration of restoring sinus rhythm compared with that of PersAF lasting more than three months ( P < 0.05). The multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that PersAF duration and left atrial anteroposterior diameter ≥ 42 mm were the risk factors for atrial fibrillation recurrence after CBA [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.01-1.4, P = 0.042; HR = 3.6, 95% CI: 2.4-5.4, P < 0.001, respectively]. The blanking period recurrence predicted the long-term recurrence ( P < 0.0001)., Conclusions: CBA of PersAF had safety and efficacy to reach de novo PVI. The PersAF duration and left atrial size were risk factors for atrial fibrillation recurrence after CBA. Background: Disruption of the vascular immunological inflammatory microenvironment is linked to metabolic memory impairment. Even though it has been proven that the Shen-Qi compound (SQC) can efficiently halt metabolic memory and preserve vascular endothelial cells, extensive studies need to be done to investigate if it can also change the vascular immune-inflammatory microenvironment by regulating the immune system. This will help figure out the role of stopping metabolic memory., Methods: After 4 weeks on a high-fat diet (HFD), GK rats were used to create a model for diabetic thoracic aortic problems. The effect and mechanisms of SQC on diabetic thoracic aortic complications were assessed by hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), biochemical analysis, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase deoxyuridine triphosphate (dUTP) nick end labeling (TUNEL), reverse transcription, real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), immunofluorescence (IF), western blot, and luciferase reporter assays., Results: SQC treatment ameliorates the HFD-induced pathological symptoms as well as the HFD-induced increased concentrations of fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin (FINS), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TGs), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and decreased concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Besides, SQC counteracted the HFD-induced average fluorescence intensity of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), as well as the concentrations of endothelin-1 (ET-1) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), while rescuing the HFD-induced concentrations of nitric oxide (NO) and nitric oxide synthetase (NOS). Also, SQC decreases apoptosis and oxidative stress in rats with diabetic thoracic aortic complications. In addition, SQC facilitated the polarization of macrophages, stimulated the activation of dendritic cells, and regulated the inflammatory milieu in rats with diabetic thoracic aortic complications. Background: The cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) selective inhibitor parecoxib is widely used in the treatment of pain and inflammation. Parecoxib has been adopted for use for postoperative analgesia following a range of surgical procedures (orthopedic, general, gynecological, and dental surgery). Total knee or total hip arthroplasty (THA) surgery is mostly done in older patients, so postoperative analgesics need to be used more carefully, and the safety and efficacy of parecoxib in this type of surgery need to be further verified. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of parecoxib on patient safety, cumulative morphine consumption and was at 24 and 48 hours in the analgesic treatment of total knee or THA for meta-analysis and systematic review, with few studies in this area so far., Methods: We searched the Online Database Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and CBM (SinoMed), CNKI, VIP, WANFANG up to January 2021. According to the value of I2, the random-effect model or fixed-effect model was supposed to combine data from studies, respectively. Publication bias was assessed through funneling plot and Beggs test. Review Manager 5.3 and Stata 16.0 software were applied to perform the statistical analyses., Results: Eleven RCTs which involved 1690 participants were included in this study. The meta-analysis indicated parecoxib sodium could not significantly reduce the incidence of adverse events after total knee or THA compared with placebo. There was no statistical significance in incidence of nausea and vomiting. 24 hours resting VAS score was statistically significant between the group. The 48-hour resting VAS scores did not indicate a significant difference between the groups., Conclusion: Parecoxib can reduce the incidence of adverse events after total knee or total hip surgery to some extent but cannot reduce the incidence of nausea and vomiting. Objective: To describe the relapse status of smokers aged ≥15 years in China, and investigate the main factors influencing their relapse behavior. Methods: The data of this study cames from the 2018 China Adult Tobacco Survey, covering 400 committees or villages in 200 districts or counties in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) of China. The relevant data of smoking and relapsing in residents aged ≥15 years were collected by face-to-face interview. Software SAS 9.4 was used to clean and analyze the data, and logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors for relapse rate. Results: A total of 19 376 questionnaires were completed, with a response rate of 91.50%. In 2018, 66.05% of smokers aged ≥15 years in China had smoking relapse, in whom 66.59% were males and 55.79% were females. In all age groups, the age group 15-24 years had the highest smoking relapse rate (82.63%). Multivariate analysis showed that the younger age 15-24 years ( OR =4.618,95% CI :1.981-10.763), e-cigarette use ( OR =9.782,95% CI :3.139-30.490), and tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship in the past 30 days ( OR =1.710,95% CI :1.291-2.265) were associated with higher smoking relapse rate. Compared with people who were allowed smoking at home or those without smoking limit, the smoking relapse rate in people who were not allowed to smoke at home ( OR =0.562, 95% CI : 0.439-0.719) or those with smoking limit ( OR =0.487, 95% CI : 0.366-0.647) was lower. Conclusion: The smoking relapse rate in Chinese smokers is high, especially in young people. It is suggested to conduct targeted intervention based on the results of this study to reduce the smoking relapse rate and help achieve the smoking control goal in Healthy China 2030.

Background: The patients with sarcopenic obesity (SO) have the characteristics of both sarcopenia and obesity, that is, less muscle mass and increased fat mass, and their morbidity, disability and mortality are higher than patients with sarcopenia or obesity alone., Objectives: To investigate the effects of whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) training and protein supplementation intervention on body composition, physical function, metabolism and inflammatory biomarkers in middle-aged and elderly patients with SO., Methods: We searched for randomized controlled trials in seven databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, SinoMed, and CNKI as of July 3, 2021. The methodological quality of each included study was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Statistical analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3., Results: Eleven randomized controlled studies with a total of 779 participants were included in this meta-analysis. WB-EMS training improved sarcopenia Z-score (MD = -1.52, 95 % CI: -2.27, -0.77, P < 0.0001) and waist circumference (WC) (MD = -1.41, 95 % CI: -2.62, -0.20, P = 0.02), and increased skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) (MD = 1.27, 95 % CI: 0.66,1.88, P < 0.0001) and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASMM) (MD = 0.68, 95 % CI: 0.08, 1.27, P = 0.03). Protein supplementation intervention reduced body fat rate (BF%) (MD = -1.28, 95 % CI: -1.88, -0.68, P < 0.0001, I 2  = 0 %), total body fat (TBF) (MD = -0.98, 95 % CI: -1.65, -0.31, P = 0.004, I 2  = 0 %) and trunk body fat mass (TBFM) (MD = -0.50, 95 % CI: -0.94, -0.06, P = 0.03, I 2  = 0 %), and increased grip strength (GS) (MD = 1.13, 95 % CI: 0.06, 2.21, P = 0.04, I 2  = 0 %). The combination of WB-EMS and protein supplements is beneficial to most body components and physical functions, such as SMI (MD = 1.21, 95 % CI: 0.73, 1.51, P < 0.00001, I 2  = 0 %), GS (MD = 1.60, 95 % CI: 0.80, 2.40, P < 0.0001, I 2  = 45 %) and walking speed (WS) (MD = 0.04, 95 % CI: 0.02, 0.06, P < 0.0001, I 2  = 49 %). Compared with protein supplementation alone, WB-EMS could have an additional beneficial effect on BF% (MD = -0.92, 95 % CI: -1.80, -0.04, P = 0.04) and WC (MD = -1.03, 95 % CI: -1.70, -0.36, P = 0.003). Nevertheless, the addition of protein supplements did not provide any additional benefit compared with WB-EMS alone. In addition, there was almost no positive effect of WB-EMS and protein supplements on metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers., Conclusions: As things stand, protein supplementation intervention can effectively reduce body fat percentage, fat mass, and increase grip strength in SO patients. Both WB-EMS and protein supplementation intervention had no significant effects on metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers. WB-EMS combined with protein supplementation intervention was beneficial for SO patients in many ways. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) exhibiting versatile biological functions provide promising prospects as natural therapeutic agents and drug delivery vehicles. For future clinical translation, revealing the fate of EVs in vivo, especially their accumulation at lesion sites, is very important. The continuous development of in vivo imaging technology has made it possible to track the real-time distribution of EVs. This article reviews the applications of mammal-, plant-, and bacteria-derived EVs in tumor therapy, the labeling methods of EVs for in vivo imaging, the advantages and disadvantages of different imaging techniques, and possible improvements for future work., (© 2022 The Authors. Pathogens are serious threats to human health, and traditional detection techniques suffer from various limitations. The unique optical properties of photoluminescent inorganic nanomaterials, such as high photoluminescence quantum yields, good photostability, and tunable spectra, make them ideal tools for the detection of pathogens with high specificity and sensitivity. In this review, the design strategies, working mechanisms, and applications of photoluminescent inorganic nanomaterial-based probes in pathogen detection are introduced. Natural killer cells (NKs) hold great promise in cancer treatment, but their application in solid tumors remains a great challenge because current solutions hardly can overcome various difficulties that faced. Herein, we endow NKs with the phytochemical feature for effective immunotherapy of solid tumors. NKs are decorated with natural thylakoid (Tk) membranes through an efficient and convenient membrane fusion strategy. Tk engineering effectively activates NKs, because the antioxidase on Tk induce glycogen synthase kinase-3β inhibition, and subsequently increase the expression of activating receptor and cytotoxic effector molecules in NKs. After systemic administration, the phytochemical NKs (PC-NKs) can target tumor tissues, and then profoundly reprogram tumor microenvironment (TME) with the help of catalase on Tk, resulting in significantly enhanced direct killing of PC-NKs and immune activated TME. Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on the expression of nuclear transcription factors κB (NF-κB) and Tau protein and content of amyloid (Aβ) in diabetic rats with cognitive impairment, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improvement of learning-memory ability., Methods: Male SD rats were randomly divided into normal control ( n =9), model ( n =9) and EA ( n =9) groups. The diabetic mellitus model was established by feeding the rats with high fat and high sugar for 1 month and intraperitoneal injection of STZ (25 mg·kg-1·d-1) for 2 days. EA was applied to "Zusanli"(ST36) and "Neiting"(ST44) for 20 min, alternatively on both side every day, and "Yishu"(EX-B3) was stimulated by twirling the acupuncture needle with uniform reinforcing-reducing method for 1 min, followed by retaining it for 20 min. The treatment was conducted 6 times a week for 4 weeks. The learning-memory ability was evaluated by using Morris water maze swimming test. The blood glucose level was randomly detected by using a glucometer, the content of Aβ1-42 in the hippocampal tissue was detected by ELISA, and the relative expression levels of hippocampal Tau and NF-κB p65 proteins and mRNAs were determined by Western blot and fluorescence quantitative real-time PCR, separately., Results: After modeling, the blood glucose, escape latency, Aβ1-42 content and the expression levels of Tau and NF-κB p65 proteins and mRNAs in the model group were significantly increased ( P <0.01, P <0.05) in comparison with the normal control group. Following EA intervention, the modeling induced increase of blood glucose, escape latency, Aβ1-42 content and the expression levels of Tau and NF-κB p65 proteins and mRNAs were reversed ( P <0.05, P <0.01)., Conclusion: EA can improve the learning-memory ability in rats with diabetic cognitive impairment, which may be related to its function in down-regulating the levels of hippocampal Aβ1-42, Tau and NF-κB proteins.

Professor YANG Jun 's clinical experience of acupuncture and moxibustion for oculomotor paralysis is summarized. Professor YANG Jun pays attention to disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation in the treatment of this disease. According to the characteristics of oculomotor paralysis, "early diagnosis and seeking treatment from the source" is advocated. According to the etiology and pathogenesis, professor YANG divides oculomotor paralysis into three types: the syndrome of wind-evil attacking collaterals, the syndrome of spleen-stomach weakness and the syndrome of qi -deficiency and blood-stasis. As such, the acupoints are selected according to syndrome differentiation, and several different acupuncture methods (pricking needling at eyelids, penetrating needling and lifting eyelids and contralateral- balance needling on the healthy side) are adopted to improve the symptoms of oculomotor paralysis. It is also suggested to use the combination of scalp acupuncture and electroacupuncture to achieve the best dose-effect state. Moreover, local stimulation around the eyes is important to achieve the effects of " qi reaching affected area".

Objective: To investigate the exposure to tobacco advertisements and promotions among Chinese adults aged 15 and above, identify the publicity channels and forms of tobacco advertising and promotion in 2010 and 2018, and implicate further tobacco control measures in China. Methods: A multistage, stratified, randomized cluster sampling design was used in 2010 and 2018 China Adult Tobacco Survey, with national representativeness. 13 354 and 19 376 permanent residents were selected in the 2010 and 2018 surveys. SAS 9.4 software was applied for data analysis, and all the data were weighted based on a complex sampling design. Rao Scott χ 2 test was used for group comparison of a single factor. Results: In 2010 and 2018, 19.61% and 18.14% of the survey respondents did see tobacco advertising and promotion. From 2010 to 2018, there was no significant change in the situation of tobacco advertisements and promotions. Among those who had gone to a cigarette shop, the proportion of seeing tobacco advertisements increased from 29.28% in 2010 to 43.28% in 2018. Among those who had seen tobacco advertisements on TV, the rate fell from 50.93% in 2010 to 28.58% in 2018. Among those who had gone to movie theaters, the proportion of seeing tobacco advertisements increased from 2.17% in 2010 to 9.89% in 2018. Among those who had used the Internet, the proportion of seeing tobacco advertisements online rose from 19.20% in 2010 to 42.30% in 2018. In terms of tobacco promotion, the percentages of people who had seen tobacco promotions, cigarette price discounts, cigarette discount coupons, gifts, and other preferential activities in various places in the past 30 days were 4.99% vs. 9.30%, 0.78% vs. 4.09%, 0.04% vs. 0.33% and 0.98% vs. 3.33% in 2010 and 2018, respectively ( P <0.001). Conclusions: Tobacco advertising and promotion are still prevalent in China, with no significant change in 2010 and 2018. Tobacco advertising and promotion have been with the constant changes and development of media platforms. It is necessary to improve the implementation of relevant policies, comprehensively ban tobacco advertisements and promotions, and strengthen the supervision of ads and promotions.

Objective: To investigate secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure among non-current smokers aged 15 and over and its influencing factors in China in 2010 and 2018. Methods: The 2010 and 2018 China Adult Tobacco Surveys used multistage stratified cluster random sampling methods to obtain national representative samples across 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China. This study selected non-current smokers aged 15 and over as the research subjects to describe the general demographic characteristics, perceptions of SHS hazards, attitudes towards smoking bans in indoor areas in public places, and SHS exposure and the smoking restriction regulations in different places. The Rao-Scott χ 2 test was used to compare the rates, and the unconditional logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of SHS exposure. All the subjects in the analysis were weighted based on a complex sampling design. Results: Among non-current smokers aged 15 and over, from 2010 to 2018, the percentage of indoor smokers had decreased from 84.7% to 71.9%. The rates of people who saw smoking in various places declined with a statistically significant difference ( P <0.001). The exposure to SHS for females, people aged 45-64, teachers, medical staff, workers in enterprises, businesses, waiters, and people who live in rural and central areas declined. The differences were statistically significant ( P <0.05). In 2018, the percentage of SHS exposure for those who reported a comprehensive smoking ban in households or allowed smoking in certain areas was lower than for those who reported allowed or without a smoking ban. Among those aged 25-44, SHS exposure for those who reported complete smoking prohibition in workplaces was lower than those who reported allowed or without smoking prohibition ( OR =0.65, 95% CI : 0.49-0.87). The proportion of SHS exposure for those who believe that smoking should not be allowed in indoor areas of 0-5 public places is higher than that smoking should not be allowed in the indoor spaces of 8 public places ( OR =2.13, 95% CI : 1.35-3.36). Among people aged 45-64, the proportions of SHS exposure for teachers ( OR =0.37, 95% CI : 0.17-0.78) and medical staff ( OR =0.35, 95% CI : 0.16-0.76) and staff working in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery, and water conservancy were lower than governmental staff ( OR =0.49, 95% CI : 0.29-0.84). Conclusions: Data from the decreased exposure of Chinese non-current smokers aged 15 and over to SHS suggests the initial achievement through constructing a smoke-free environment, but continued efforts are needed. It is necessary to actively advocate for smoke-free families, strengthen publicity and education on the hazards of tobacco and SHS, and improve the skills of non-smokers in rejecting SHS exposure.

Objective: To describe the current situation on quit intention and quit attempts among current smokers aged 15 years and above in China and explore the main factors affecting their smoking cessation behaviors. Methods: The subjects were people aged 15 years and above in China. A stratified multi-phased randomized cluster sampling method was used. The survey covered 200 districts/counties in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government), including 19 376 people under investigation. The data were weighted with SAS 9.4 for complex sampling analysis, and the frequency and weighted component ratio were used for description. The influencing factors were studied using the Rao Scott χ 2 test and unconditional multivariate logistic regression. Results: Among current smokers, 6.63% reported that they planned to quit smoking in the next month, 5.44% for men and 8.49% for women. 17.96% of the current smokers made quit attempts in the past 12 months, with 17.80% men and 22.15% women. People who smoke occasionally ( OR =3.42, 95% CI : 2.09-5.59) made quit attempts in the past ( OR =4.91, 95% CI : 0.33-0.52) and knew that smoking would lead to three diseases ( OR =2.24, 95% CI : 1.48-3.40) had higher quit intention. People who occasionally smoke ( OR =1.68, 95% CI : 1.20-2.34) received smoking cessation suggestions from medical staff ( OR =1.96, 95% CI : 1.62-2.37), were a ware of that smoking causes three diseases ( OR =1.63, 95% CI : 1.32-2.02) and had smoking prohibition regulations in indoor areas of their homes, had a higher rate of quit attempts. Conclusion: Providing effective smoking cessation intervention services and creating a supportive tobacco control environment are significant in promoting smoking cessation behavior.

Cancer vaccines are emerging as an attractive modality for tumor immunotherapy. However, their practical application is seriously impeded by the complex fabrication and unsatisfactory outcomes. Herein, we construct bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs)-based in situ cancer vaccine with phytochemical features for photodynamic effects-promoted immunotherapy. By simply fusing thylakoid membranes with OMVs, bacteria-plant hybrid vesicles (BPNs) are prepared. After systemic administration, BPNs can target tumor tissues and stimulate the activation of immune cells, including dendritic cells (DCs). The photodynamic effects derived from thylakoid lead to the disruption of local tumors and then the release of tumor-associated antigens that are effectively presented by DCs, inducing remarkable tumor-specific CD8 + T cell responses. Moreover, BPNs can efficiently ameliorate the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and further boost immune responses. Therefore, both tumor development and metastasis can be efficiently prevented. This work provides a novel idea for developing a versatile membrane-based hybrid system for highly efficient tumor treatment.

The nucleus accumbens (NAc) is considered a hub of reward processing and a growing body of evidence has suggested its crucial role in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, inconsistent results have been reported by studies on reward network-focused resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI). In this study, we examined functional alterations of the NAc-based reward circuits in patients with MDD via meta- and mega-analysis. First, we performed a coordinated-based meta-analysis with a new SDM-PSI method for all up-to-date rs-fMRI studies that focused on the reward circuits of patients with MDD. Then, we tested the meta-analysis results in the REST-meta-MDD database which provided anonymous rs-fMRI data from 186 recurrent MDDs and 465 healthy controls. Decreased functional connectivity (FC) within the reward system in patients with recurrent MDD was the most robust finding in this study. We also found disrupted NAc FCs in the DMN in patients with recurrent MDD compared with healthy controls. Specifically, the combination of disrupted NAc FCs within the reward network could discriminate patients with recurrent MDD from healthy controls with an optimal accuracy of 74.7%. This study confirmed the critical role of decreased FC in the reward network in the neuropathology of MDD. Disrupted inter-network connectivity between the reward network and DMN may also have contributed to the neural mechanisms of MDD. These abnormalities have potential to serve as brain-based biomarkers for individual diagnosis to differentiate patients with recurrent MDD from healthy controls., (© 2022. The Author(s).)

Osteosarcopenic obesity (OSO) is a complex disease commonly seen in the elderly. We found that resistance training may improve bone mineral density, skeletal muscle mass, and body fat percentage in patients with OSO. Therefore, resistance training is beneficial for elderly OSO patients and is worth being promoted., Purpose: Investigate effects of resistance training on body composition and physical function in elderly osteosarcopenic obesity (OSO) patients., Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, Medline, SinoMed, CNKI, and Wanfang Database were searched from inception until October 13, 2021.Two independent researchers extracted the key information from each eligible study. The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation (GRADE) was used to evaluate the quality of the outcomes. Sensitivity analysis indicated the stability of the results. Statistical analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3., Results: Four randomized controlled studies meeting the inclusion criteria were included, with 182 participants. Twelve weeks of resistance training improved bone mineral density (BMD, mean difference (MD) = 0.01 g/cm 2 , 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.001, 0.02, P = 0.03, I 2  = 0%), skeletal muscle mass (SMM, MD = 1.19 kg, 95% CI: 0.50, 1.89, P = 0.0007, I 2  = 0%), Z score, timed chair rise test (TCR), and body fat percentage (BFP, MD =  - 1.61%, 95% CI: - 2.94, - 0.28, P = 0.02, I 2  = 50%) but did not significantly affect skeletal muscle mass index (SMI, MD = 0.20 kg/m 2 , 95% CI: - 0.25, 0.64, P = 0.38, I 2  = 0%) or gait speed (GS)., Conclusions: Resistance training is a safe and effective intervention that can improve many parameters, including BFP, SMM, and Z score, among OSO patients and is a good option for elderly individuals to improve their physical fitness., (© 2022. Background: Recently, functional homotopy (FH) architecture, defined as robust functional connectivity (FC) between homotopic regions, has been frequently reported to be altered in MDD patients (MDDs) but with divergent locations., Methods: In this study, we obtained resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (R-fMRI) data from 1004 MDDs (mean age, 33.88 years; age range, 18-60 years) and 898 matched healthy controls (HCs) from an aggregated dataset from 20 centers in China. We focused on interhemispheric function integration in MDDs and its correlation with clinical characteristics using voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC) devised to inquire about FH patterns., Results: As compared with HCs, MDDs showed decreased VMHC in visual, motor, somatosensory, limbic, angular gyrus, and cerebellum, particularly in posterior cingulate gyrus/precuneus (PCC/PCu) (false discovery rate [FDR] q < 0.002, z = -7.07). Further analysis observed that the reduction in SMG and insula was more prominent with age, of which SMG reflected such age-related change in males instead of females. Besides, the reduction in MTG was found to be a male-special abnormal pattern in MDDs. VMHC alterations were markedly related to episode type and illness severity. The higher Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score, the more apparent VMHC reduction in the primary visual cortex. First-episode MDDs revealed stronger VMHC reduction in PCu relative to recurrent MDDs., Conclusions: We confirmed a significant VMHC reduction in MDDs in broad areas, especially in PCC/PCu. This reduction was affected by gender, age, episode type, and illness severity.
