PurposeUnderstanding the antecedents of patient safety culture among medical staff is essential if hospital managers are to promote explicit patient safety policies and strategies. The factors that influence patient safety culture have received little attention. The authors aim to investigate the antecedents of patient safety culture (safety climate) in relation to medical staff to develop a comprehensive approach to improve patient safety and the quality of medical care in China.Design/methodology/approachThe Chinese version of the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (CSAQ) was used to examine the attitudes toward patient safety among physicians and nurses. This medical staff was asked to submit the intra-organizational online survey via email. A total of 1780 questionnaires were issued. The final useable questionnaires were 256, yielding a response rate of 14.38%. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to test if different sex, supervisor/manager, age, working experience, and education result in different perceptions. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to verify the structure of the data. Then linear regression with forward selection was performed to obtain the essential dimension(s) that affect the safety culture (safety climate).FindingsThe CFA results showed that 26 CSAQ items measured 6 safety-related dimensions. The linear regression results indicated that working conditions, teamwork climate, and job satisfaction had significant positive effects on safety culture (safety climate).Practical implicationsHospital managers should put increased effort into essential elements of patient-oriented safety culture, such as working conditions, teamwork climate, and job satisfaction to develop appropriate avenues to improve the quality of delivered medical services as well as the safety of patients.Originality/valueThis study focused on the contribution that the antecedents of patient safety culture (safety climate) make with reference to the perspective of medical staff in a tertiary hospital in China.

Metastasis‐associated protein 2 (MTA2) is frequently amplified in many types of cancers; however, the role and underlying molecular mechanism of MTA2 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remain unknown. Here, we reported that MTA2 is highly expressed in ESCC tissue and cells, and is closely related to the malignant characteristics and poor prognosis of patients with ESCC. Through in vitro and in vivo experiments, we demonstrated that MTA2 significantly promoted ESCC growth, metastasis, and epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) progression. This integrative analysis combined with expression microarray showed that MTA2 could interact with eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (EIF4E), which positively regulates the expression of Twist, known as a master regulator of EMT. Moreover, the results of chromatin immunoprecipitation revealed that MTA2 was recruited to the E‐cadherin promoter by Twist, which reduced the acetylation level of the promoter region and thus inhibited expression of E‐cadherin, and subsequently promoted the aggressive progression of ESCC. Collectively, our study provided novel evidence that MTA2 plays an aggressive role in ESCC metastasis by a novel EIF4E‐Twist positive feedback loop, which may provide a potential therapeutic target for the management of ESCC., We demonstrated that the upregulation of MTA2 in ESCC was significantly correlated with malignant characteristics and poor survival probability of patients. The abnormal expression of MTA2 in ESCC contributed to the proliferation, metastasis, and EMT phenotype of ESCC cells through a novel EIF4E‐Twist positive feedback loop.

A series of functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) were developed for the reductive functionalization of CO2 with amine and hydrosilane to afford formamides under mild conditions. It was found that 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU)-based IL i.e. [DBUC12]Br showed high efficiency for the N-formylation reaction of amines without using any organic solvents or additives. Furthermore, control experiments suggested the cations with active hydrogen may weaken the nucleophilicity of anions through ion pairing interactions, thereby affecting the activation of hydrosilane. The reaction mechanism was then investigated by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. This protocol represents a highly efficient and environmentally friendly example for catalytic conversion of CO2 into value-added chemicals such as formamide derivatives by employing DBU functionalized ILs.

Carbon emissions abatement (CEA) is an important issue that draws attention from both academicians and policymakers. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been a popular tool to allocate the CEA, and most previous works are based on radial DEA models. However, as shown in our paper, these models may give biased results due to their ignorance of slackness. To avoid such problems, we propose an allocation model based on the slack-based model and multiple-objective nonlinear programming to find the CEA allocation plan, which can minimize the GDP loss. The property of nonconvexity makes the model difficult to solve. Thus, we construct an approximation algorithm to solve this model with guaranteed error bounds and complexity. In the empirical application, we take regions of china as an illustrative example and find there is a significant region gap in China. Hence, we group the regions into eastern, central, and western, and give the main results, as well as the superiority of our allocation models compared with radial models.

The organic/inorganic hybrid sol was prepared by hydrolysis polymerization of methyl-triethoxysilane (MTES) with acidic silica sol. Zirconium silicate, zircon sand and refractory fiber were respectively added to the hybrid sol to increase the stability of the coating in high temperature service. P-type skutterudite(SKD) protective coating obtained by multi-layer coating and certain pretreatment. Protective effect was studied by observing the diffusion of antimony from the SKD into the coating. The results show that the coating has the advantages of simple process and high strength and high stability after aging. The sublimation of antimony is suppressed and it is expected to be applied to the protection of SKD in vacuum.

Trans-urocanic acid (trans-UCA) is an isomer of cis-UCA and is widely distributed in the brain, predominantly in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Previous studies have investigated the role of trans-UCA in non-spatial memory; however, its influence on spatial memory remains unclear. In the present study, network pharmacology strategy and behavioral testing were used to evaluate the role of trans-UCA in spatial memory and predict its possible mechanism. The results showed that there are 40 intersecting targets between trans-UCA and spatial memory identified by several databases and Venn diagram, indicating that trans-UCA may be involved in spatial memory. Behavioral results show that trans-UCA facilitates spatial working memory in the Y-maze test as well as spatial recognition memory acquisition, consolidation and retrieval in an object location recognition (OLR) task. Furthermore, PPI (protein-protein interaction) network analysis, GO (gene ontology) and KEGG (Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes) pathway enrichment analyses show that the molecular mechanisms underlying the enhancing effect of trans-UCA on spatial memory are mainly associated with the regulation of insulin, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor Kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathways, serotonergic synapse and arginine and proline metabolism. The results of this study suggest that trans-UCA facilitates spatial memory in the Y-maze test and OLR task and may offer therapeutic potential for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The underlying mechanisms predicted by network pharmacology should be further verified.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the commonest cause of permanent vision loss in the elderly. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has long been used to treat AMD, although the underlying functional mechanisms are not understood. This study aims to predict the active ingredients through screening the chemical ingredients of anti-AMD decoction and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. We collected the prescriptions for effective AMD treatment with traditional Chinese medicine and screened several Chinese medicines that were used most frequently in order to compose "anti-AMD decoction." The pharmacologically active ingredients and corresponding targets in this anti-AMD decoction were mined using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) database. Subsequently, the AMD-related targets were identified through the GeneCards database. Network pharmacology was performed to construct the visual network of anti-AMD decoction-AMD protein-protein interaction (PPI). Further, the Autodock software was adopted for molecular docking on the core active ingredients and core targets. The function of core ingredients against oxidative stress and inflammation in retinal pigment epithelial cells was assessed using biochemical assays. We screened out 268 active ingredients in anti-AMD decoction corresponding to 258 ingredient targets, combined with 2160 disease targets in AMD, and obtained 129 drug-disease common targets. The key core proteins were predominantly involved in inflammation. Furthermore, molecular docking showed that four potential active ingredients (Quercetin, luteolin, naringenin and hederagenin) had good affinity with the core proteins, IL-6, TNF, VEGFA and MAPK3. Quercetin, luteolin and naringenin demonstrated capacities against oxidative stress and inflammation in human retinal pigment epithelial cells. The data suggests that anti-AMD decoction has multiple functional components and targets in treating AMD, possibly mediated by suppression of oxidative stress and inflammation.

To compare the clinical efficacy of total hip arthroplasty with conventional instrument OCM approach and posterolateral approach in supine position.From February 2017 to January 2019, 67 patients underwent hip arthroplasty due to hip diseases, including 21 patients in the minimally invasive group, 12 males and 9 females;there were 10 cases of femoral neck fracture, 5 cases of aseptic necrosis of femoral head and 6 cases of hip osteoarthritis. In the traditional group, 46 cases were treated by traditional posterolateral approach, including 28 males and 18 females;there were 24 cases of femoral neck fracture, 12 cases of aseptic necrosis of femoral head and 10 cases of hip osteoarthritis. All patientsused biological ceramic artificial joint prosthesis. The operation time, intraoperative bleeding, incision length, preoperative and postoperative creatine kinase (CK-NAC), underground activity time, hospital stay, abduction angle and anteversion angle of prosthesis were observed and compared between two groups. Harris scores before operation and 12 months after operation were compared between two groups.All cases were followed up for 14 to 26(18.4±3.6) months. There was no significant difference in intraoperative bleeding, postoperative anteversion and abduction angle between two groups (The two approaches of total hip arthroplasty can obtain satisfactory results.OCM approach has less damage and rapid postoperative recovery. It is a reliable surgical approach and can be popularized and used.

The response analysis of plant morphological characteristics and biomass allocation in salt marsh wetland to heterogeneous habitats is helpful to explore the internal correlation between plant morphological plasticity mechanism and biomass allocation, which is of great significance for the in-depth understanding of habitat stress tolerance strategies of salt marsh plants. However, the relationship between the main root-shoot morphological indexes and biomass allocation of inland alpine arid area salt marsh plant is still unclear. According to the difference of the habitat conditions of Saussurea salsa, 3 test sample were set up, plot I (the Inland salt marsh area, 200–500 m from the lakeshore), plot II (the Oasis Wetland area, 500–1000 m from the lakeshore), plot III (the Seasonal river wetland area, 1000–1500 m from the lakeshore). The relationship between the main root-shoot morphological characteristics and biomass allocation of Saussurea salsa in the Sugan Lake salt marsh was studied in response to heterogeneous habitats. The results showed that Saussurea salsa tended to form the large and thick leaf pattern, the root morphological construction pattern with moderate root diameter (RD) and specific root length (SRL), and the root-shoot ratio (RSR) with minimum biomass allocation strategy in plot I. In plot II, the thin-leaf pattern with the largest specific leaf area (SLA) and the smallest thickness (LT) was formed. Meanwhile, the slender root morphology pattern with the smallest RD, the largest SRL and the moderate RSR was preferred. In plot III, a lobular pattern with minimum leaf area (LA) and SLA, and moderate thickness was formed. In this paper, BiFe1–2×ZnxTixO3 (BFZTO) (where x = 0, 0.02, and 0.03) ceramics were prepared using three different processes and resulting samples were evaluated using various characterization techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicate that all BFZTO samples exhibit typical diffraction pattern of R3c space group. Results further show that the combination of cold isostatic pressing and conventional sintering (CIP-CS) is an effective method for preparing high-performance BiFeO3 (BFO) ceramics. BFZTO (x = 0.02) samples prepared using CIP-CS method possess large remnant polarization of 1.18 μC/cm2 and coercive field of 11.5 kV/cm. Meanwhile, the same sample displays enhanced dielectric properties due to the formation of defect complexes and increase in grain boundaries, which reduce the amount of free charge and restrict the transportation of charged defects and reversal of domain. For CIP-CS BFZTO ceramics, UV–visible diffuse absorption spectra show that the value of optical band gap lies within the range of 1.72–1.98 eV, which indicates potential applications of the ceramic in photocatalyst and photoconductive devices.

BiFeO3 (BFO) is a fascinating multiferroic material, exhibiting ferroelectric and G-type antiferromagnetic characteristics simultaneously. In this work, non-magnetic Al3+ and Ga3+ doped BFO (BFAO and BFGO) ceramics were synthesized via sol–gel and conventional sintering methods. Structural, thermal stability and electrical properties of samples were analyzed in detail. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of powder and ceramic samples demonstrated efficient crystallization, consisting of rhombohedral structures with R3c space group for small amounts of added dopant. Thermal analysis exhibited that BFO decomposes into Bi25FeO39 and Bi2Fe4O9 at 950 °C. It is found that Al3+ and Ga3+ doping readily contribute to decomposition, as supported by calculations from first-principles. BiAlO3 and BiGaO3 are unstable and would spontaneously decompose, if they could be synthesized using ordinary technology. As a result, decomposition temperatures of doped powders decreased to ~ 680 °C. Dielectric behavior can be explained through the Maxwell–Wanger model and Koop’s theory. Dielectric loss decreased with increasing substitution. Leakage current density of doped ceramics became 2–3 orders of magnitude lower than that of BFO ceramic, improving performance and championing applications of modified BFO in future.

Aims The fractal structure is an important root architecture characteristic, which can reflect the plasticity mechanism and carbon consumption characteristics of root architecture in heterogeneous habitats. However, there are few studies on the root architecture of inland salt marsh plants from the perspective of fractal geometry. Methods This study according to the difference of the habitat conditions, setting plot I (the near water area, distance from the lakeshore, 50–200 m), plot II (the middle water area, distance from the lakeshore, 300–500 m), plot III (the distance water area, distance from the lakeshore, 600–800 m) 3 test sample. The Saussurea salsa as the research object, the root geometric morphology traits and the root fractal structure of Saussurea salsa in the Sugan Lake wetland was studied in response to heterogeneous habitats. Results The results showed that there was a highly significant negative correlation (p Saussurea salsa at plot I and plot III, meanwhile, there appeared a less significant negative correlation (p Saussurea salsa tended to form an “intensive” root architecture with high fractal dimension (FD) and low fractal abundance (FA) in plot I. “Diffusive” root architecture with low FD and high FA tended to form in plot III. The root of Saussurea salsa had less branch and more inclined to increasing the soil volume of root expansion in the far water area.

Repeated stress-related diarrhea is a kind of functional bowel disorders (FBDs) that are mainly stemming from dysregulation of the microbiota–gut–brain axis mediated by a complex interplay of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HT). Intestinal content and intestinal mucosa microbiota belong to two different community systems, and the role of the two microbiota community systems in repeated stress-related diarrhea remains largely unknown. In order to ascertain the difference in composition and the potential function between intestinal content and intestinal mucosa microbiota response on repeated stress-related diarrhea, we collected intestinal contents and mucosa of mice with repeated stress-related diarrhea for 16S rRNA PacBio SMRT gene full-length sequencing, and with the digital modeling method of bacterial species abundance, the correlations among the two microbiota community systems and serum 5-HT concentration were analyzed. We found that the microbiotal composition differences both in intestinal contents and mucosa were consistent throughout all the phylogenetic ranks, with an increasing level of resolution. Compared with intestinal content microbiota, the diversity and composition of microbiota colonized in intestinal mucosa are more sensitive to repeated stress-related diarrhea. The PICRUSt2 of metagenomic function analysis found that repeated stress-related diarrhea is more likely to perturb the intestinal mucosa microbiota metagenomic functions involved in the neural response. We further found that the mucosal microbiota-based relative abundance model was more predictive on serum 5-HT concentration with the methods of machine-learning model established and multivariate dimensionality reduction (R2 = 0.876). These findings suggest that the intestinal mucosa microbiota might serve as a novel potential prediction model for the serum 5-HT concentration involvement in the repeated stress-related diarrhea, in addition to focusing on its mechanism in the gastrointestinal dysfunction.

Flora and mucosal immunity are considered to be the barrier, which is associated with multiple respiratory diseases, including recurrent respiratory tract infection (RRTI). Fei-Xi-Tiao-Zhi-Fang (FTF) is a traditional Chinese herbal formula used in the treatment of RRTI. However, the mechanism is little known. This study aims to identify the function of FTF in flora and mucosal immune secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) in the model of RRTI rats. The samples of intestine and lung were collected to detect sIgA, short chain fatty acids (SCFAS), and flora with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), gas chromatography, and 16S rDNA sequencing. The body weight and viscera index were increased dynamically in RRTI rats after the administration of FTF. Furthermore, the types and proportions of aboriginal flora were significantly changed in the model group, whereas the altered flora was rescued in the FTF administration group. Desulfovibrio increased in the intestinal microflora and Ralstonia and Blautia decreased in the pulmonary microflora at the genus level, similar to that in the normal group. In addition, the expressions of sIgA in pulmonary and intestinal tissues were significantly upregulated and the level of SCFAS was increased in FTF group compared to the RRTI model group. Our study suggests that FTF can alleviate the symptoms of RRTI by increasing sIgA and SCFAS, recovering flora, and improving the immunity.

With the increase of global environmental pollution, green chemistry has been an inevitable trend in the development of chemistry and chemical engineering, thus attracting much attention from the academia to industry and to governments. As a response to the “green challenge”, the so-called green chemistry movement has spread all over the world. In this perspective, we would like to present main programs associated with green chemistry in China, with a focus on green chemistry education and related activities.

Herein, we present first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations to study the stoichiometric (0 0 0 1) polar surfaces of ferroelectric BiAlO3. The results show that the physical and chemical properties are different between the positively and negatively polarized surfaces. The integrated Al O3 Bi trilayer exhibited the minimal cleavage energy and considered as the more favorable construction. It is found that the surface compensation charges are 0.45e and −0.46e for the most stable positive and negative surfaces, respectively. The significant relaxations are found at the outermost Al and Bi atomic layers for the positive and negative surfaces, respectively. The electronic structure shows that the most favorable negative and positive surfaces are insulating and the energy gap of the positive surface is reduced by 0.8 eV with respect to the bulk. We predict that the atomic charges of preferred BiAlO3 (0 0 0 1) polar surfaces are strongly dependent on the ferroelectric polarization.

In this paper, the effect of Zn and Ti co-doping on the structure, dielectric, ferroelectric and magnetic properties of BiFeO3 (BFO) ceramics have been studied. Co-doped BFO ceramics with different doping concentrations are prepared by using the sol-gel method. The structure, morphology and electrical properties of co-doped BFO ceramics are studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, impedance analyzer and ferroelectric test analysis system. Furthermore, the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) is used to investigate the magnetic properties. The structural transition from rhombohedral to tetragonal-like phase is observed with a high level of co-doping (x = 2.5%). In addition, higher content of Zn and Ti results in enhanced dielectric constant (e) and reduced dielectric loss (tanδ). The highest remnant polarization of 0.4 μC/cm2 and coercive electric field of 15.5 kV/cm is demonstrated at x = 2.5%. The enhanced dielectric and ferroelectric properties can be attributed to the formation of defect complexes due to the Zn and Ti substitution.

The acetate-based ionic liquids (ILs), e.g., [nBu4N]OAc, have been developed for challenging 4-electron reduction of CO2 with amines and hydrosilane to afford aminals. Notably, polymethylhydrosiloxane, a cheap byproduct of the silicone industry, also works well as a reductant. Furthermore, an alternative pathway is rationally proposed via thorough density functional theory (DFT) study. In addition, the ILs play a surprisingly significant role through decreasing activation free energy. More importantly, the essence of being kinetically favorable with 4-electron reduction and thermodynamically favorable with 6-electron reduction is unveiled by DFT study, which guides us to successfully get 6-electron reductive products of CO2, i.e., methylamine. This work represents upgrading usage of both carbon and silicon wastes to valuable chemicals via IL catalysis.

Reductive functionalization of CO2 with amines and a reductant, which combines both reduction of CO2 and C–N bond formation in one pot to produce versatile chemicals and energy-storage materials such as formamides, aminals, and methylamines that are usually derived from petroleum feedstock, would be appealing and promising. Herein, we give a brief review on recent developments in the titled CO2 chemistry by employing transition-metal-free catalysis, which can be catalogued as below according to the diversified energy content of the products, that is formamides, aminals, and methylamines being consistent with 2-, 4-, and 6-electron reduction of CO2, respectively. Notably, hierarchical reduction of CO2 with amines to afford at least two products, for example, formamides and methylamines, could be realized with the same catalyst through tuning the hydrosilane type, reaction temperature, or CO2 pressure. An amide-promoted protocol was developed for the reductive functionalization of CO2 with amines/imine and phenylsilane to produce methylamine. Secondary amines and an imine were methylated successfully to methylamines with up to 98% yield under atmospheric pressure of CO2 and 80°C. Furthermore, a tentative mechanism involving amide-promoted CO2 reduction to the silyl acetal species was proposed. Striking features of this metal-free protocol are selective six-electron reduction of CO2 with hydrosilane as a reductant in the presence of amine.

To explore the effect of Biejiajian Oral Liquid (鳖甲煎口服液, BOL) on CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats by detecting the changes in the levels of angiotensin II (Ang II), angiotensin-(1–7) [Ang-(1–7)], angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), ACE2, angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R), Mas, etc. A total of 180 Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups by random digital table method: prevention experiment and treatment experiment. Each group was further subdivided into the following 6 subgroups: normal control group, model group, vitamin E [100 mg/(kg·d), VE] group, enalapril [10 mg/(kg·g), Ena] group, high-dosage [20 g/(kg·d)] BOL group, and low-dosage [10 g/(kg·d)] BOL group. The hepatic fibrosis rat model was established by subcutaneous injection of CCl4 for 6 weeks. Prevention experiment and treatment experiment were administered with specific drugs at different times. At the end of treatment experiment, the pathological changes of liver were observed after hematoxylin-eosin staining. The expressions of ingredients in renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) such as AngII, Ang-(1–7), ACE, ACE2, AT1R, Mas, renin, CYP11B2 and angen in liver were detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, immunohistochemistry method or reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, respectively. Pristine LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) and LNMO@LLTO (Li0.33La0.56TiO3) composites were synthesized by a sol-gel process. The lattice constant of LNMO increases with the increasing coated content of LLTO. All samples show irregular morphologies, and the particle size distributes uniformly between 200 and 500 nm. The inherent characteristic of Li0.33La0.56TiO3 with a large ionic conductivity decreases the interfacial charge transfer impedances, leading to an enhanced migration rate of Li-ions in the composite. As a cathode of LIBs, LNMO@LLTO (3 wt%) exhibits a large reversible capacity and a remarkable rate capability. Therefore, Li0.33La0.56TiO3 modification can be considered as an effective strategy to improve the rate capability of LNMO.

Pristine LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 and FePO4-coated one with Fd-3m space groups were prepared by a sol-gel method. The structure and performance were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) mapping, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and charge-discharge tests, respectively. The lattice parameters of all samples almost remain the same from the Rietveld refinement, revealing that the crystallographic structure has no obvious difference between pristine LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 and FePO4-coated one. All materials show similar morphologies with uniform particle distribution with small particle size, and FePO4 coating does not affect the morphology of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 material. EDS mapping and HRTEM show that FePO4 may be successfully wrapped around the surfaces of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 particles, and provides an effective coating layer between the electrolyte and the surface of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 particles. FePO4 (1 wt%)-coated LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode shows the highest discharge capacity at high rate (2 C) among all samples. After 80 cycles, the reversible discharge capacity of FePO4 (1 wt%) coated LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 is 117 mAh g−1, but the pristine one only has 50 mAh g−1. FePO4 coating is an effective and controllable way to stabilize the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4/electrolyte interface, and avoids the direct contact between LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 powders and electrolyte, then suppresses the side reactions and enhances the electrochemical performance of the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4.
