Easton, History Professor, Papers, 1860-1890, 1935-1960. Lecture notes, clippings, notes, and drafts for A History of European Civilization, Volume 1, and other miscellaneous papers of Jason C. Easton, former professor of history at West Virginia University (WVU). The collection also contains Dr. Easton's correspondence with several former students serving in the military during World War II dating from ca. 1942-1946. Other WWII items include ration books for food, gasoline, and liquor; and two unpublished sound recordings on disc of a radio discussion by J.C. Easton and Clark Ennis regarding the question of which nation the United States should support following World War II, Germany or Russia. There is also an album of photographs, some indentified, of members of the Young family of Charleston, West Virginia, dating from ca. 1860-1890. Addenda to the collection, in two document cases, include Lieutenant Clark Easton's World War I ledger containing class notes and instructional material from an Army Intelligence School, for period 30 September 1918 to 9 November 1918; and a listing of WVU students and graduates killed in World War II. Addenda also include items collected by Easton, including three Civil War documents: 1) payment voucher for Captain John D. Young for work on Bateau No. 16 on the Kanawha River (1962), 2)An eulogy/composition regarding "Stonewall Jackson" by Virginia Military Institute cadet, Samuel Francis Atwill (1863) who was mortally wounded at the Battle of New Market on 15 May 1864, and 3) a three-page narrative by unknown soldier regarding Shenandoah Valley campaign (January to July 1864). There is also a history of Charleston and Kanawha County published in 1911. Badge is made of an unknown metal, possibly brass, and has the shape of an eight-pointed star. In the center is an image of what appears to be a three-leaf shamrock, with a crown in each leaf, surrounded by the words, "QUIS SEPARABIT" and "MDCCLXXXIII". The former is the Latin motto of the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, and translates to "Who shall separate us?" in English. The latter is a year in Roman numerals, which is "1783" in Arabic numerals. Below on a scroll are the words, "4TH ROYAL IRISH D. GUARDS". The 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards were a British cavalry regiment that landed in France at the beginning of World War I, and some of its members were reportedly the first British soldiers of the War to engage the Germany army.

This cap badge is likely made of silver and features two crossed kukris (traditional Nepalese knives) surrounding the number "7", all below a Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh's monogram (two opposite-facing letter "P"s intertwined) topped by a royal crown. During World War I, this regiment of the British Indian Army was known as the 7th Gurkha Rifles and fought in the Mesopotamian/Iraqi Campaign. The term 'Gurkha' refers to Nepalese soldiers that served in both the British and Indian Armies. In 1947, the 7th Gurkha Rifles was one of the Gurkha regiments that joined the British Army instead of remaining in the newly-independent Indian Army. In 1959, the regiment was renamed the 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles.

Badge is made of white metal, and was worn by members of the Other Ranks on the feather bonnet or glengarry. The stag's head and rock ivy on this badge are both symbols of Clan Gordon and the Gordon Highlanders, the latter of which was a British Army regiment that fought in World War I. The regimental and clan motto "BYDAND" is Scots, and translates roughly to "steadfast" in English.

Canteen is a German M1893 Feldflasche, made of aluminum with a wool cover and leather harness. An aluminum pull allows the cork stopper to be removed. A clip on the harness may have attached the canteen to a drinking cup (Trinkbecher) or bread bag (Brotbeutel). The harness down one side of the canteen is inscribed, "BATTLE OF SARREBUCK" and "ME," or possibly "MF". The first inscription may refer to several possible events: the Battle of Sarrebruck, also known as the Battle of Saarbrücken, took place in 1870 at the start of the Franco-Prussian War; the Allies also undertook bombings and raids against Saarbrücken during World War I; and lastly, it may instead be a corruption of Sarrebourg, on which the French advanced during the Battle of Lorraine in 1914. The other side of the harness is inscribed, "PROPERTY OF SGT ELDRIDGE A.E.F. FRANCE".

The body of the bell is made from a 37 mm shell, with edges cut in a scalloped pattern. Acting as its handle is a rifle shell, approximately 8 mm in size, with what appears to be part of a bullet projectile soldered onto the end. Inside the bell is a chain on which a section of another rifle shell, which also appears to be 8 mm, is hung. When the bell is rung, this section acts as the clapper and strikes the inside of the 37 mm shell to produce the sound.

Verso contains photographs and information about African-Americans serving in the United States Army during World War I.

This octagonal tin features a picture of soldiers on its lid. At the top of this picture the product name, "HOUSE OF HARTFIELD," is written, as well as "THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918." At the bottom of the lid is the text, "We will remember them," with a single red poppy drawn to the right of the text. Part of a poem, "In Flanders Fields," by John McCrae is written over a portion of the picture, reading: "In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row." On the sides of the tin are scenes depicting important places from the war, as well as war monuments and the product name. At the bottom of the tin is the full poem by McCrae, as well as manufacturer and ingredient information
