Papers, photographs, binders, artifacts, and newspapers belonging to Lillian Waugh, professor of Women's Studies at WVU and gender equality activist. This collection contains personal family photographs, correspondence, and research about Waugh keeping her surname after marriage. Protest and activism papers, photographs, and artifacts include assorted materials related to Waugh's involvement in the National Organization for Women (NOW), the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) campaign, gender equality movements, and anti-war protests. The collection features research, correspondence, and curriculum from Waugh's time as a WVU professor. This explanatory sequential mixed methods study reviews the programs and academic courses for women at complementarian schools of Christian higher education. The literature review historically unfolds the egalitarian and complementarian debate. Choosing the complementarian path, I advocate theological or practical ministry training for complementarian women, and review other recent research pertinent to this field. The initial quantitative phase utilizes content analysis from catalogs on institutional websites. In a second qualitative phase, twelve purposively selected directors were interviewed at exemplar complementarian schools such as Cedarville University, Covenant Seminary, Dallas Theological Seminary, The Master's University, Midwestern Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Reformed Seminary, Southern Seminary, Southeastern Seminary, Southwestern Seminary, and Westminster Seminary. The analysis includes quantitative and qualitative data revealing consistency and variation among these institutions in order to provide insight and example for other institutions and educators in Christian higher education.

Unedited video recording on DVD of the West Virginia Day Program presented by the West Virginia University (WVU) Libraries' West Virginia & Regional History Center on June 20, 2014. The program, titled "Celebrating Two Hundred Years of Education in Morgantown," included three speakers, all WVU faculty: Dr. Barbara J. Howe, Dr. Lillian J. Waugh, and Dr. Connie P. Rice. The speakers were introduced by Dr. John Cuthbert, Director and Curator of the West Virginia & Regional History Center. The video is 1 hour, 52 minutes, 30 seconds long; after 1 hour and 46 minutes, the audio ceases. Howe taught history and women's studies at WVU. She spoke about the importance of the Literary Fund; the establishment of the Monongalia Academy, its trustees who were leaders in other aspects of early Morgantown history, its curriculum, and student life. She also talked about the earliest efforts to provide educational opportunities for girls. Waugh was the project historian for the WVU Women's Centenary, served as the interim director for Women's Studies, and received the Mary Catherine Buswell Award. She spoke about female education at the time and addressed the debates on and implementation of coeducation. Rice, an expert on African-American history in the county and state, is a lecturer in the WVU History Department and assistant editor of West Virginia History: A Journal of Regional Studies. She spoke about the legal restrictions on education for blacks prior to the Civil War, how some blacks were taught to read and write despite the laws, and the efforts of African Americans to obtain an education during and after the Civil War.

Two scrapbooks, photographic portraits, and loose photographs kept by Caro Louise Buffington of Huntington, West Virginia. The Buffingtons were a prominent family in the history of Huntington. One scrapbook contains photographs and the other contains paper records, dating from 1913-1918. The photo scrapbook (7 in. x 9 in. x 2 in., 90 pages) contains snapshots dating from 1913-1917; locations of image content include Huntington, Parkersburg, and Charleston (Lick Branch Swimming Hole), West Virginia; and Athens, Atlanta, and Tallulah Falls, Georgia. Photograph subjects include friends (many identified), social and recreational events, automobiles, train stations or depots, and street scenes. Many photographs record friends and events in connection with the Lucy Cobb Institute (of Athens, Georgia), a prestigious women's secondary school which Caro attended (including photos of two students costumed for a Cobb Institute dress ball as Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin, movie stars of the era). The scrapbook of ephemera (10 in. x 13 in. x 2 in.), dating from 1915-1918, contains clippings, telegrams (many loose in the scrapbook), programs, and dance cards relating to the activities and social life of Caro Buffington in West Virginia, Georgia, and at the Lucy Cobb Institute (including many programs of Institute piano recitals). There are three photographic portraits of Caro and one of Peter Clyne Buffington, III at age 15, among other portraits (in two folders). There are also loose snapshots of family and friends dating from ca. 1915-1940 (3/4 in. in four enclosures).
