Abstract

This dissertation is concerned with quantum state tomography in scenarios where prior information constrains the set of relevant quantum states to a low dimensional subset of the state space. Frameworks to find both lower and upper bounds on the minimal number of measurement settings or outcomes needed to discriminate any two quantum states of such a subset are provided and applied to several concrete scenarios. Furthermore, measurement settings that allow a computationally tractable recovery of bounded rank quantum states are constructed., Diese Dissertation befasst sich mit der Tomographie von Quantenzuständen in Szenarien in denen Vorwissen die Menge von relevanten Quantenzuständen auf eine niedrigdimensionale Teilmenge des Zustandsraums einschränkt. Methoden um sowohl untere als auch obere Schranken an die minimale Anzahl von Messkonfigurationen oder Messergebnissen die für die Unterscheidung von zwei beliegigen Zuständen einer gegebenen Teilmenge notwendig sind werden vorgeschlagen und auf konkrete Szenarien angewandt. Zusätzlich werden Messkonfigurationen die eine rechnerisch machbare Rekonstruktion von Quantenzuständen mit beschränktem Rang ermöglichen konstruiert.

Abstract

The aim of this project is to contribute to our understanding of quantum time evolutions, whereby we focus on quantum Markov chains. The latter constitute a natural generalization of the ubiquitous concept of a classical Markov chain to describe evolutions of quantum mechanical systems. We contribute to the theory of such processes by introducing novel methods that allow us to relate the eigenvalue spectrum of the transition map to convergence as well as stability properties of the Markov chain., Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es zu unserem Verständnis quantenmechanischer Evolutionen beizutragen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt beim Studium von quanten Markov-Ketten, welche eine natürliche Verallgemeinerung des Konzepts einer Markov-Kette zur Beschreibung von quantenmechanischen Systemen darstellen. Wir tragen zu der Theorie solcher Prozesse bei, indem wir neue Methoden entwickeln um das Eigenwertspektrum der Übergangsmatrix mit Eigenschaften wie Stabilität und Konvergenz der Markov-Kette in Verbindung zu bringen.

Abstract

The IceCube Neutrino Observatory was designed primarily to search for high-energy (TeV-PeV) neutrinos produced in distant astrophysical objects. A search for ≳100 TeV neutrinos interacting inside the instrumented volume has recently provided evidence for an isotropic flux of such neutrinos. At lower energies, IceCube collects large numbers of neutrinos from the weak decays of mesons in cosmic-ray air showers. Here we present the results of a search for neutrino interactions inside IceCube’s instrumented volume between 1 TeV and 1 PeV in 641 days of data taken from 2010–2012, lowering the energy threshold for neutrinos from the southern sky below 10 TeV for the first time, far below the threshold of the previous high-energy analysis. Astrophysical neutrinos remain the dominant component in the southern sky down to a deposited energy of 10 TeV. From these data we derive new constraints on the diffuse astrophysical neutrino spectrum, Φ_ν=2.06_{-0.3}^{+0.4}×10-18(E_ν/10^5 GeV)^{-2.46±0.12} GeV^-1 cm^−2 sr^−1 s^-1 for 25 TeV

Abstract

Sufficient and necessary conditions for causal localizations of massive relativistic systems are developed. It is proven that the Dirac- and the Dirac tensor-system are up to unitary equivalence the only irreducible causal localizations with finite spinor dimension which have a massive relativistic extension. A formula for this extension is given. The existence of arbitrarily good localized states of positive energy is shown. In the context of the causality condition a Paley-Wiener theorem for bounded measurable matrix-valued functions is proven., Hinreichende und notwendige Bedingungen für kausale Lokalisierungen massiver relativistischer Systeme werden entwickelt. Bewiesen wird, dass das Dirac- und das Dirac Tensor-System bis auf unitäre Äquivalenz die einzigen irreduziblen kausalen Lokalisierungen mit endlicher Spinor Dimension sind, die eine massive relativistische Fortsetzung besitzen. Eine Formel für diese Fortsetzung wird angegeben. Die Existenz beliebig gut lokalisierbarer Zustände positiver Energie wird gezeigt. Im Kontext der Kausalitätsbedingung wird ein Paley-Wiener Satz für beschränkte messbare matrixwertige Funktionen bewiesen.

Coding theorems are proved for the Compound Multiple Access Channel and the Arbitrarily Varying Multiple Access Channel, achievable regions are derived for the Wiretap Multiple-Access Channel., Die Arbeit behandelt den Compound-Vielfachzugriffskanal mit gemeinsamer Nachricht und mit konferierenden Encodern, den beliebig variierenden Vielfachzugriffskanal mit konferierenden Encodern sowie den Abhör-Vielfachzugriffskanal mit gemeinsamer Nachricht und mit konferierenden Encodern. Für den Compound- und den beliebig variierenden Vielfachzugriffskanal werden Kodierungssätze bewiesen, für den Abhör-Vielfachzugriffskanal werden erreichbare Regionen hergeleitet.

Abstract

The work treats the Compound Multiple Access Channel with common message and with conferencing encoders, the Arbitrarily Varying Channel with conferencing encoders, and the Wiretap Multiple Access Channel with common message and with conferencing encoders. Coding theorems are proved for the Compound Multiple Access Channel and the Arbitrarily Varying Multiple Access Channel, achievable regions are derived for the Wiretap Multiple-Access Channel. Die Arbeit behandelt den Compound-Vielfachzugriffskanal mit gemeinsamer Nachricht und mit konferierenden Encodern, den beliebig variierenden Vielfachzugriffskanal mit konferierenden Encodern sowie den Abhör-Vielfachzugriffskanal mit gemeinsamer Nachricht und mit konferierenden Encodern. Für den Compound- und den beliebig variierenden Vielfachzugriffskanal werden Kodierungssätze bewiesen, für den Abhör-Vielfachzugriffskanal werden erreichbare Regionen hergeleitet.
