Broadband magnetotelluric (MT) data were acquired along two ~E-W trending profiles across the Delamerian Orogen in South Australia and the Lachlan orogen in Victoria. The MT profile follows a geotransect of reflection seismic and gravity data across the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic transition to illuminate the crust and constrain the tectonic evolution and mineral potential of the region., Open-Access Online Publication: May 31, 2023

Mineral Potential ,Delamerian ,Tectonics ,Drilling - Abstract
The western Murray Basin obscures the interpreted transition between Proterozoic and Phanerozoic rocks of Australia in the upper crust, often referred to as the Tasman Line. The South Australian part of this continental margin has been interpreted, based on sparse extrapolated constraints, to have sat in various geodynamic settings associated with a Cambrian subduction system. We use newly acquired multi-disciplinary datasets and the results of the MinEx CRC Delamerian National Drilling Initiative program to elucidate the architecture of this hidden Cambrian margin, revealing unrecognised potential for a spectrum of mineral systems. Whilst it has been accepted for a number of years that the Stavely Zone in western Victoria represents a volcanic arc in the mid-Cambrian, continent-ward belts to the west (beneath the Murray Basin), have had uncertain affinities. With the results of recent drilling, we show that both regional, and highly partitioned back-arc extension were present in the period 515-500 Ma, and speculate that inherited structure in pre-Cambrian basement rocks are responsible for the variation in deformation styles present in drill core., Open-Access Online Publication: May 29, 2023

- Abstract
Low metamorphic grade rocks contain both detrital minerals and minerals newly grown or partly recrystallised during diagenesis and metamorphism. However, rocks such as these typically yield complex 40Ar/39Ar age spectra that can be difficult to interpret. In this study, we have analysed a suite of variably deformed rocks from a region of low metamorphic grade within the c. 514–490 Ma Delamerian Orogen, South Australia. The samples analysed range from siltstone and shale to phyllite and all contain either muscovite or phengite determined by hyperspectral mineralogical characterisation. Furnace step heating 40Ar/39Ar analysis produced complex apparent age spectra with multiple age components. Using the concept of asymptotes that define minimum and maximum ages for different components, we interpret the age spectra to preserve a range of detrital mineral ages, along with younger components related to either cooling or deformation- induced recrystallisation. Two samples contain Mesoproterozoic detrital age components, up to c. 1170 Ma, while the c. 515 Ma Heatherdale Shale which has both c. 566 Ma and c. 530 Ma detrital components. All samples contain younger lower (younger) asymptotes in the age spectra defined from multiple heating steps that range from c. 476 to c. 460 Ma. One interpretation of these younger ages is that they are caused by post-metamorphic cooling. However, the shape of the age spectra and the degree of deformation in the phyllites suggest the ages may record recrystallisation of detrital minerals and/or new mica growth during deformation. Potentially these c. 476 to c. 460 Ma ages suggest deformation in the upper portion of the orogen was facilitated by movement along regional faults and shear zones up to around 20 million years after the cessation of deformation in the high-metamorphic grade regions of the Delamerian Orogen.

Here we present 3D and 2D resistivity models of the lithosphere beneath an area of southeast Australia, derived from the Australian Lithospheric Architecture Magnetotelluric Project (AusLAMP) and a subsequent infill broadband MT transect collected in October 2020. The Flinders Ranges, South Australia is a zone that has been weakened by multiple Precambrian rift cycles related to the breakup of Rodinia. These rift cycles have possibly led to the utilization of this lithosphere for the focussing of fluid alteration causing high conductivities in crust and upper mantle depths in this region, as imaged in the AusLAMP 3D resistivity models. The northwestern end of a 100 km MT transect traverses this region and 1.5 km MT site spacing resolves high conductivity pathways that broadly correlate with previously identified mineral prospects. These pathways straddle the resistive granodiorite rocks of the Anabama pluton, known to host porphyry-style mineralisation. To the southeast, the transect images the onlapping Mesozoic Murray Basin sediments, and Cambrian rocks beneath, where the crust exhibits high resistivities and seismic velocities, suggesting a depleted lithosphere., Open-Access Online Publication: March 03, 2023

© Copyright owned by the author(s). CUORE is a ton-scale experiment approaching the data taking phase in Gran Sasso National Laboratory. Its primary goal is to search for the neutrinoless double-beta decay in 130 Te using 988 crystals of tellurim dioxide. The crystals are operated as bolometers at about 10 mK taking advantage of one of the largest dilution cryostat ever built. Concluded in March 2016, the cryostat commissioning consisted in a sequence of cool down runs each one integrating new parts of the apparatus. The last run was performed with the fully configured cryostat and the thermal load at 4 K reached the impressive mass of about 14 tons. During that run the base temperature of 6.3 mK was reached and maintained for more than 70 days. An array of 8 crystals, called mini-tower, was used to check bolometers operation, readout electronics and DAQ. Results will be presented in terms of cooling power, electronic noise, energy resolution and preliminary background measurements.

In this study, we provide 40 Ar / 39 Ar geochronology data from a suite of variably deformed rocks from a region of low-grade metamorphism within the Cambro–Ordovician Delamerian Orogen, South Australia. Low-grade metamorphic rocks such as these can contain both detrital minerals and minerals newly grown or partly recrystallised during diagenesis and metamorphism. Hence, they typically yield complex 40 Ar / 39 Ar age spectra that can be difficult to interpret. Therefore, we have undertaken furnace step heating 40 Ar / 39 Ar geochronology to obtain age spectra with many steps to allow for application of the method of asymptotes and limits and recognition of the effects of mixing. The samples analysed range from siltstone and shale to phyllite and contain muscovite or phengite with minor microcline as determined by hyperspectral mineralogical characterisation. Whole rock 40 Ar / 39 Ar analyses were undertaken in most samples due to their very fine-grained nature. All samples are dominated by radiogenic 40 Ar, and contain minimal evidence for atmospheric Ca- or Cl-derived argon. Chloritisation may have resulted in limited recoil, causing 39 Ar argon loss in some samples, which is especially evident within the first few percent of gas released. Most of the age data, however, appear to have some geological significance. Viewed with respect to the known depositional ages of the stratigraphic units, the age spectra from this study do appear to record both detrital mineral ages and ages related to the varying influence of either cooling or deformation-induced recrystallisation. The shape of the age spectra and the degree of deformation in the phyllites suggest the younger ages may record recrystallisation of detrital minerals and/or new mica growth during deformation. Given that the younger limit of deformation recorded in the high-metamorphic-grade regions of the Delamerian Orogen is ca. 490 Ma, the ca. 470 to ca. 458 Ma ages obtained in this study suggest deformation in low-grade shear zones within the Delamerian Orogen may have persisted until ca. 20–32 million years after high-temperature ductile deformation in the high-grade regions of the orogen. We suggest that these younger ages for deformation could reflect reactivation of older structures formed both during rift basin formation and during the main peak of the Delamerian orogeny itself. The younger ca. 470 to ca. 458 Ma deformation may have been facilitated by far-field tectonic processes occurring along the eastern paleo-Pacific margin of Gondwana. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE) is the first bolometric experiment searching for neutrinoless double beta decay that has been able to reach the 1-ton scale. The detector consists of an array of 988 TeO[subscript 2] crystals arranged in a cylindrical compact structure of 19 towers, each of them made of 52 crystals. The construction of the experiment was completed in August 2016 and the data taking started in spring 2017 after a period of commissioning and tests. In this work we present the neutrinoless double beta decay results of CUORE from examining a total TeO[subscript 2] exposure of 86.3kgyr , characterized by an effective energy resolution of 7.7 keV FWHM and a background in the region of interest of 0.014 counts/(keVkgyr) . In this physics run, CUORE placed a lower limit on the decay half-life of neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te>1.3⋅1025 yr (90% C.L.). Moreover, an analysis of the background of the experiment is presented as well as the measurement of the 130 Te 2 νββ decay with a resulting half-life of T2ν1/2=[7.9±0.1(stat.)±0.2(syst.)]×1020 yr which is the most precise measurement of the half-life and compatible with previous results. ©2019 Keywords: neutrinoless double beta decay; CUORE; Majorana Neutrino, National Science Foundation (grant nos. 47. Pituitary Relationship of Gonadotropins and Messenger Ribonucleic Acid For Gonadotropin Subunits in White Composite and Meishan Boars1

- Abstract
Two experiments were conducted to compare amounts of mRNAs for gonadotropin subunits in two breeds of pigs that are genetically distinct with respect to litter size: the Chinese Meishan and the white composite (a composite of four European white breeds: Yorkshire, Landrace, large white, and Chester white). In experiment 1, pituitaries were collected from mature Meishan (n = 5) and white composite (n = 6) boars. In experiment 2, boars were assigned to three groups according to peripheral concentrations of FSH: white composite (~ 100 ng/ml; n = 8), Meishan with low FSH (> 500 ng/ml; n = 7), and Meishan with high FSH (< 750 ng/ml; n = 7). Within each of the three groups, five males were castrated. Two months after castration, pituitaries were collected from castrates and from eight contemporary boars for comparison purposes. Concentrations of FSH and LH were measured in half of each pituitary by RIA. RNA was isolated from the other half of each pituitary, applied to Northern and slot blots, and hybridized with cDNA probes for bovine α, LHβ, or FSHβ subunits. In experiment 1, pituitary concentrations of FSH (μg FSH/mg pituitary) were greater (p< 0.05) in Meishan (40 ± 7 μg/mg; mean ± SE) than in white composite boars (19 ± 4). Pituitary weight and content of FSH were greater (p< 0.01) in Meishan boars (335.1 ± 18 mg and 13.5 ± 18 mg/pituitary, respectively) than in white composite boars (270.9 ± 12.0 and 5.0 ± 1.2, respectively). Northern analysis indicated that sizes of gonadotropin subunit mRNAs were similar in pigs and cattle. Amounts of mRNA for α subunit and LHβ subunit were not different (p= 0.14 and 0.08, respectively) between breeds. Meishans, however, had greater (p< 0.01) amounts of mRNA for FSHβ subunit than white composites. In experiment 2, amounts of mRNA for α, LHβ, and FSHβ subunits were not different (p> 0.05) between castrated and intact animals. Meishan males with high FSH had greater (p< 0.05) amounts of mRNA for all three gonadotropin subunits than did white composite males. From these results we suggest that greater levels of gonadotropins in the circulation of Meishan boars result, in part, from increased amounts of mRNA for gonadotropin subunits as compared with those in the white composite breed of boars.

In this study, we provide 40Ar / 39Ar geochronology data from a suite of variably deformed rocks from a region of low-grade metamorphism within the Cambro–Ordovician Delamerian Orogen, South Australia. Low-grade metamorphic rocks such as these can contain both detrital minerals and minerals newly grown or partly recrystallised during diagenesis and metamorphism. Hence, they typically yield complex 40Ar / 39Ar age spectra that can be difficult to interpret. Therefore, we have undertaken furnace step heating 40Ar / 39Ar geochronology to obtain age spectra with many steps to allow for application of the method of asymptotes and limits and recognition of the effects of mixing. The samples analysed range from siltstone and shale to phyllite and contain muscovite or phengite with minor microcline as determined by hyperspectral mineralogical characterisation. Whole rock 40Ar / 39Ar analyses were undertaken in most samples due to their very fine-grained nature. All samples are dominated by radiogenic 40Ar, and contain minimal evidence for atmospheric Ca- or Cl-derived argon. Chloritisation may have resulted in limited recoil, causing 39Ar argon loss in some samples, which is especially evident within the first few percent of gas released.
