Continuous assessment of disease activity remains a huge challenge during the follow-ups of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). In this paper, we aimed to evaluate the performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) by comparing with computed tomography enterography (CTE) in the assessment of disease activity in CD.Fifty-two patients diagnosed with CD were included in this study, using the CEUS and CTE as imaging methods for comparison. The selected parameters included the location and thickness of the thickest part of the intestinal wall, mesenteric fat proliferation, mesenteric vessels change, enhancement pattern and the presence of complications. Patients were clinically assessed using the Crohn's disease activity index (CDAI), C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). Simple endoscopic score for Crohn's disease (SES-CD) was regarded as the reference standard.The location of the thickest part of the intestinal wall (κ = 0.653), bowel wall thickness (ICC = 0.795), mesenteric vessels change (κ = 0.692) and complications (κ = 0.796) displayed substantial agreement (0.61-0.80) between CEUS and CTE, while the detection of mesenteric fat proliferation (κ = 0.395) and enhancement pattern (κ = 0.288) showed fair consistency (0.21-0.40) for comparison. In CEUS, bowel wall thickness, mesenteric fat proliferation, enhancement pattern and mesenteric vessels change were statistically significant in assessing CD activity, while bowel wall thickness, mesenteric fat proliferation and mesenteric vessels change in CTE. Bowel wall thickness showed the best diagnostic performance in the assessment of CD activity at CEUS and CTE.CEUS provides a radiation-free and effective way to assess the CD activity in comparison with CTE, which also avoids frequent colonoscopy examinations, improves tolerance of patients, and reduces the cost of medical care, thereby serving as a useful tool for CD follow-up.

The Golgi apparatus is one of the major sites of protein and lipid glycosylation and processing. Protein N-glycosylation plays critical roles in protein folding, transport, stability, and activity. Various glycosyltransferases and glycoside hydrolases are localized at each cisterna in the Golgi apparatus and synthesize a large variety of N-glycan structures. The biosynthetic pathways of N-glycans are complicated, which hiders the rational design of glycan metabolic pathways. In addition, the analysis of glycan structure requires specialized instruments for analyses such as mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, which are not familiar to all laboratories. Here, we introduce relatively simple methods for N-glycan analysis, including disruption of genes encoding glycosyltransferases or glycoside hydrolases, glycan structural analysis using lectins and mass spectrometry, and visualization of glycan metabolic pathways in silico.

Glycoprotein therapeutics are among the leading products in the biopharmaceutical industry. The heterogeneity of glycans in therapeutic proteins is an issue for maintaining quality, activity and safety during bioprocessing. In this study, we knocked out genes encoding Golgi α-mannosidase-II, MAN2A1 and MAN2A2 in human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells, establishing an M2D-KO cell line that can produce recombinant proteins mainly with hybrid-type N-glycans. Furthermore, FUT8, which encodes α1,6-fucosyltransferase, was knocked out in the M2D-KO cell line, establishing a DF-KO cell line that can express noncore fucosylated hybrid-type N-glycans. Two recombinant proteins, lysosomal acid lipase and constant fragment of human IgG1, were expressed in the M2D-KO and DF-KO cell lines. Glycan structural analysis revealed that complex-type N-glycans were removed in both M2D-KO and DF-KO cells. Our results suggest that these cell lines are suitable for the production of therapeutic proteins with hybrid-type N-glycans. Moreover, KO cell lines would be useful as models for researching the mechanism of antimetastatic effects in human tumours by swainsonine treatment.

Exploring novel hypergolic fuels for modern space propulsion is highly desired. However, the analysis and understanding of the structure and hypergolic performance at the molecular level are still insufficient. To understand the factors that dictate hypergolicity, we conducted a comparative study on a series of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) characterized by the same topology but with varied ligand structures. The ignition delay (ID) time trend was found to be imidazoletriazoletetrazole, and the rapid ID time was 8 ms. By combining experimental studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we found that propargyl and cyanoborohydride groups that functioned as dual hypergolic triggers contributed to the hypergolicity, and a distinct electronic structure was detrimental to ID time. The structure-performance relationships presented herein can potentially provide some fundamental insights into the field of developing high-performance hypergolic fuels.

Despite the efficacy of current starvation therapies, they are often associated with some intrinsic drawbacks such as poor persistence, facile tumor metastasis and recurrence. Herein, we establish an extravascular gelation shrinkage-derived internal stress strategy for squeezing and narrowing blood vessels, occluding blood & nutrition supply, reducing vascular density, inducing hypoxia and apoptosis and eventually realizing starvation therapy of malignancies. To this end, a biocompatible composite hydrogel consisting of gold nanorods (GNRs) and thermal-sensitive hydrogel mixture was engineered, wherein GRNs can strengthen the structural property of hydrogel mixture and enable robust gelation shrinkage-induced internal stresses. Systematic experiments demonstrate that this starvation therapy can suppress the growths of PANC-1 pancreatic cancer and 4T1 breast cancer. More significantly, this starvation strategy can suppress tumor metastasis and tumor recurrence via reducing vascular density and blood supply and occluding tumor migration passages, which thus provides a promising avenue to comprehensive cancer therapy., The efficacy of tumour starvation therapy is limited by lack of persistent tumour suppression, tumour metastasis and recurrence. Here, the authors report biocompatible gold nanorods and thermal-sensitive hydrogel to promote narrowing of blood vessels and show this to reduce tumour growth and metastasis.

Combined checkpoint blockade (e.g., PD1/PD-L1) with traditional clinical therapies can be hampered by side effects and low tumour-therapeutic outcome, hindering broad clinical translation. Here we report a combined tumour-therapeutic modality based on integrating nanosonosensitizers-augmented noninvasive sonodynamic therapy (SDT) with checkpoint-blockade immunotherapy. All components of the nanosonosensitizers (HMME/R837@Lip) are clinically approved, wherein liposomes act as carriers to co-encapsulate sonosensitizers (hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME)) and immune adjuvant (imiquimod (R837)). Using multiple tumour models, we demonstrate that combining nanosonosensitizers-augmented SDT with anti-PD-L1 induces an anti-tumour response, which not only arrests primary tumour progression, but also prevents lung metastasis. Furthermore, the combined treatment strategy offers a long-term immunological memory function, which can protect against tumour rechallenge after elimination of the initial tumours. Therefore, this work represents a proof-of-concept combinatorial tumour therapeutics based on noninvasive tumours-therapeutic modality with immunotherapy., Immunotherapy for the treatment of cancer can be complicated by side effects and poor efficacy. Here, the authors use a nanoparticle-based approach in combination with a TLR7 agonist and sonodynamic therapy, and find that when used together with anti-PD-L1, tumour formation and metastases are impacted.

Objective Kruppel-like factor 16 (KLF16), a member of the Kruppel-like factor (KLF) family, has been extensively investigated in multiple cancer types. However, the role of KLF16 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains unknown. Thus, we conducted this study to investigate its related mechanism. Methods KLF16 expression in OSCC cell lines was quantified by western blotting. Then, OECM1 and OC3 cells were divided into Blank, siCtrl, siKLF16#1 and siKLF16#2 groups. Subsequently, cell proliferation was detected using 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays, cell migration and invasion were detected with wound healing and Transwell assays, and cell cycle distribution and cell apoptosis were detected via flow cytometry. KLF16, p21, CDK4, Cyclin D1 and p-Rb expression was detected by western blotting. Finally, xenograft models were established in nude mice to observe the in vivo effects of KLF16 on OSCC. Results KLF16 protein expression was upregulated in OSCC cells. Compared to the cells in the Blank group, the OECM1 and OC3 cells in the siKLF16#1 group and siKLF16#2 group exhibited a sharp decrease in proliferation but a remarkable increase in apoptosis. Moreover, the proportion of cells in the G0/G1 phase notably increased and that in the S phase decreased, with evident decreases in cell invasion and migration. Moreover, KLF16, cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4), Cyclin D1 and p-Rb protein expression was upregulated, but p21 expression was downregulated. The mice in the siKLF16#1 and siKLF16#2 xenograft model groups exhibited slower tumor growth and smaller tumors with evident downregulation of Ki67 expression compared to the mice in the Blank group. Conclusion KLF16 expression was upregulated in OSCC cells, and interfering with KLF16 led to cell cycle arrest, inhibited OSCC cell growth and promoted cell apoptosis.

Localized tumor photothermal cancer ablation is a minimally invasive therapeutic modality for combating cancer, but it often suffers from low therapeutic efficacy and poor precision due to the poor accumulation and non-uniform distribution of used photothermal-conversion agents in tumor tissue via the typical intravenous administration. To address this, an injectable and phase-changeable composite bio-injection consisting of biocompatible two-dimensional (2D) niobium carbide (Nb2C) MXene and the plant-originating protein, zein, has been engineered for near infrared (NIR)-II-triggered tumor photothermal ablation. Zein can respond to aqueous microenvironments and also external photo-triggers from the NIR-II bio-window (1064 nm), and transforms into a solid bio-implant after solvent exchange between ethanol and water. Which, thus, traps Nb2C MXene and heat, improving ablation efficiency and enabling the precise and complete eradication of 4T1 breast tumor cells without additional safety concerns. More significantly, shear wave elastography (SWE) as a deep-penetration imaging mode that can reflect the ablated outcomes via monitoring tissue density variation, has been employed to guide the photo-thermal ablation process to further improve the ablation precision. Thus, this compatible and phase-changeable bio-injection capable of improving photo-thermal ablation efficiency holds great potential in clinical applications.

OBJECTIVE To assess the performance of conventional high frequency ultrasound (US) and US elastography in diagnosis of complex cystic and solid breast lesions. METHODS Ninety three lesions in 93 patients underwent conventional US and US elastography, including strain elastography, acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging, and point shear wave speed (SWS) measurement. RESULTS Pathological examination revealed 31 (33.3%) of the 93 lesions were malignant and the remaining 62 (66.7%) were benign. Statistical methods have been widely used to build different streamflow prediction models; however, lacking of physical mechanism prevents precise streamflow prediction in alpine regions dominated by rainfall, snow and glacier. To improve precision, a new hybrid model (HBNN) integrating HBV hydrological model, Bayesian neural network (BNN) and uncertainty analysis is proposed. In this approach, the HBV is mainly used to generate initial snow-melt and glacier-melt runoffs that are regarded as new inputs of BNN for precision improvement. To examine model reliability, a hybrid deterministic model called HLSSVM incorporating the HBV model and least-square support vector machine is also developed and compared with HBNN in a typical region, the Yarkant River basin in Central Asia. The findings suggest that the HBNN model is a robust streamflow prediction model for alpine regions and capable of combining strengths of both the BNN statistical model and the HBV hydrological model, providing not only more precise streamflow prediction but also more reasonable uncertainty intervals than competitors particularly at high flows. It can be used in predicting streamflow for similar regions worldwide.

Recombinant therapeutic proteins are becoming very important pharmaceutical agents for treating intractable diseases. Most biopharmaceutical proteins are produced in mammalian cells because this ensures correct folding and glycosylation for protein stability and function. However, protein production in mammalian cells has several drawbacks, including heterogeneity of glycans attached to the produced protein. In this study, we established cell lines with high-mannose–type N-linked, low-complexity glycans. We first knocked out two genes encoding Golgi mannosidases (MAN1A1 and MAN1A2) in HEK293 cells. Single knockout (KO) cells did not exhibit changes in N-glycan structures, whereas double KO cells displayed increased high-mannose–type and decreased complex-type glycans. In our effort to eliminate the remaining complex-type glycans, we found that knocking out a gene encoding the endoplasmic reticulum mannosidase I (MAN1B1) in the double KO cells reduced most of the complex-type glycans. In triple KO (MAN1A1, MAN1A2, and MAN1B1) cells, Man9GlcNAc2 and Man8GlcNAc2 were the major N-glycan structures. Therefore, we expressed two lysosomal enzymes, α-galactosidase-A and lysosomal acid lipase, in the triple KO cells and found that the glycans on these enzymes were sensitive to endoglycosidase H treatment. The N-glycan structures on recombinant proteins expressed in triple KO cells were simplified and changed from complex types to high-mannose types at the protein level. Our results indicate that the triple KO HEK293 cells are suitable for producing recombinant proteins, including lysosomal enzymes with high-mannose–type N-glycans.

To assess the association between BRAF V600E mutation and ultrasound (US) features in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients with and without Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT). We retrospectively reviewed the US features and status of BRAF V600E mutation in 438 consecutive patients with surgically confirmed PTCs. The association between BRAF mutation and US features were analyzed. In addition, we conducted subgroup analyses in terms of coexistent HT. The BRAF mutation was found in 86.5% of patients (379 of 438). Patient age (OR: 1.028, P = 0.010), age ≥ 50 y (OR: 1.904, P = 0.030), and microcalcification (OR: 2.262, P = 0.015) on US were significantly associated with BRAF mutation in PTC patients. Solid component (OR: 5.739, P = 0.019) on US was the significant predictor for BRAF mutation in patients with HT, while age (OR: 1.036, P = 0.017) and microcalcification (OR: 3.093, P = 0.017) were significantly associated with BRAF mutation in patients without HT. In conclusion, older age and microcalcification are risk factors for BRAF mutation in PTC patients, especially in those without HT. For those with HT, however, PTCs with BRAF mutation tend to be solid on ultrasound. These factors might be considered when making treatment planning or prognosis evaluation.

To evaluate the diagnostic performance of two different shear wave elastography (SWE) techniques in distinguishing malignant breast lesions from benign ones.From March 2016 to May 2016, a total of 153 breast lesions (mean diameter, 16.8 mm±10.5; range 4.1-90.0 mm) in 153 patients (mean age, 46.4 years±15.1; age range 20-86 years) were separately performed by two different SWE techniques (i.e. T-SWE, Aplio500, Toshiba Medical System, Tochigi, Japan; and S-SWE, the Aixplorer US system, SuperSonic Imagine, Provence, France). The maximum (Emax), mean (Emean) and standard deviation (ESD) of elasticity modulus values in T-SWE and S-SWE were analyzed. All the lesions were confirmed by ultrasound (US)-guided core needle biopsy (n = 26), surgery (n = 122), or both (n = 5), with pathological results as the gold standard. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) were calculated. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated to assess the diagnostic performance between T-SWE and S-SWE. Operator consistency was also evaluated.Among the 153 lesions, 41 (26.8%) were malignant and 112 (73.2%) were benign. Emax (T-SWE: 40.10±37.14 kPa vs. 118.78±34.41 kPa; S-SWE: 41.22±22.54 kPa vs. 134.77±60.51 kPa), Emean (T-SWE: 19.75±16.31 kPa vs. 52.93±25.75 kPa; S-SWE: 20.95±10.98 kPa vs. 55.95±22.42 kPa) and ESD (T-SWE: 9.00±8.55 kPa vs. 38.44±12.30 kPa; S-SWE: 8.17±6.14 kPa vs. 29.34±13.88 kPa) showed statistical differences in distinguishing malignant lesions from benign ones both in T-SWE and S-SWE (all p 0.05). In T-SWE, the diagnostic performance of ESD was the highest (AUROC = 0.958), followed by Emax (AUROC = 0.909; p = 0.001 in comparison with ESD) and Emean (AUROC = 0.892; p 0.001 in comparison with ESD), while in S-SWE, the diagnostic performance of Emax was the highest (AUROC = 0.967), followed by ESD (AUROC = 0.962, p 0.05 in comparison with Emax) and Emean (AUROC = 0.930, p = 0.034 in comparison with Emax). AUROC-max (T-SWE: 0.909 vs.0.967), AUROC-mean (T-SWE: 0.892 vs.0.930) and AUROC-SD (T-SWE: 0.958 vs.0.962) showed no significant difference between T-SWE and S-SWE (all p 0.05). The intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) of the intra-operator consistency and inter-operator consistency respectively were 0.961 and 0.898 in T-SWE, while 0.954 and 0.897 in S-SWE.T-SWE and S-SWE are equivalent for distinguishing the breast lesions. In T-SWE, ESD had the best diagnostic performance, while in S-SWE, Emax had the best diagnostic performance.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop an ultrasound consolidated score (UCS) in determining the activity of Crohn’s disease (CD) and evaluate it with reference to simple endoscopic score (SES). Methods: From June 2014 to June 2017, 66 patients with CD were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Each patient underwent endoscopy and transabdominal ultrasound (US) examination. The morphological symmetry, echogenicity of bowel wall, bowel wall layer structure, echogenicity of peri-bowel fat, bowel wall thickness (BWT), and Limberg type on power Doppler US were assessed with transabdominal US, and an UCS scoring system was developed based on these characteristics. Endoscopic results were used as the reference standard and SES was calculated to determine the CD activity. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to assess the diagnostic performance for determining CD activity and the correlation between UCS and SES was assessed using Spearman correlation analysis. Results: 330 intestinal segments in 66 patients were included. The UCS of the segments in the remission phase ranged from 3.0 to 9.0 (mean, 3.6 ± 0.9) whereas in the active phase from 3.0 to 20.0 (mean, 10.6 ± 4.0) (p < 0.001). The cut-off value of UCS was 6. The associated area under ROC curve, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy were 0.980, 88.3%, 95.5%, 93.8%, 91.3%, and 92.3%, respectively. The correlation coefficient between UCS and SES was 0.90, which was higher than the correlation coefficient of 0.83 between BWT and SES. Conclusions: The newly developed UCS with transabdominal US has a good performance and potentially provides an effective alternative for evaluating the activity of CD. Advances in knowledge: UCS is an effective method to evaluate the activity of CD because it provides comprehensive information of the disease. Therefore, it could be employed as an alternative for diagnosis of CD.

As a minimally invasive heat source, radiofrequency (RF) ablation still encounters potential damages to the surrounding normal tissues because of heat diffusion, high power, and long time. With a comprehensive understanding of the current state of the art on RF ablation, a magnetic composite using porous hollow iron oxide nanoparticles (HIONs) as carriers to load dl-menthol (DLM) has been engineered. This composite involves two protocols for enhancing RF ablation, that is, HION-mediated magnetothermal conversion in RF field and RF solidoid vaporation (RSV)-augmented inertial cavitation, respectively. A combined effect based on two protocols is found to improve energy transformation, and further, along with hydrophobic DLM-impeded heat diffusion, improve the energy utilization efficiency and significantly facilitate ex vivo and in vivo RF ablation. Effect of heat treatments on the stress corrosion behavior of 7050 Al alloys in 3.5% NaCl solution has been investigated using slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) test. During the slow strain rate tensile process, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in real time was carried out to characterize the electrochemical behavior for different tempers 7050 Al alloys. The investigation shows that both the stress corrosion resistance of 7050 Al alloys is controlled by heat treatments due to the different precipitates state. The improvement of stress corrosion resistance is contributed to the tiny precipitates in matrix which are beneficial to corrosion potential and maintain passivation, and precipitates discontinuous distribution at grain boundary which obstruct intergranular crack connection. Moreover, base on the results, we find out retrogression and re-aging (RRA, i.e., T6 + 200 °C/ retrogression + water quench + T6) increases both tensile strength and stress corrosion resistance. The optimized of retrogression time is 30 minutes.

Therapeutic proteins are a developing part of the modern biopharmaceutical industry, providing novel therapies to intractable diseases including cancers and autoimmune diseases. The human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cell line has been widely used to produce recombinant proteins in both basic science and industry. The heterogeneity of glycan structures is one of the most challenging issues in the production of therapeutic proteins. Previously, we knocked out genes encoding α1,2-mannosidase-Is, MAN1A1, MAN1A2 and MAN1B1, in HEK293 cells, establishing a triple-knockout (T-KO) cell line, which produced recombinant protein with mainly high-mannose-type N-glycans. Here, we further knocked out MAN1C1 and MGAT1 encoding another Golgi α1,2-mannosidase-I and N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase-I, respectively, based on the T-KO cells. Two recombinant proteins, lysosomal acid lipase (LIPA) and immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1), were expressed in the quadruple-KO (QD-KO) and quintuple-KO (QT-KO) cell lines. Glycan structural analysis revealed that all the hybrid-type and complex-type N-glycans were eliminated, and only the high-mannose-type N-glycans were detected among the recombinant proteins prepared from the QD-KO and QT-KO cells. Overexpression of the oncogenes MYC and MYCN recovered the slow growth in QD-KO and QT-KO without changing the glycan structures. Our results suggest that these cell lines could be suitable platforms to produce homogeneous therapeutic proteins.

EVA1A (also known as transmembrane protein 166) is a transmembrane protein involved in the regulation of autophagy that acts as an adaptor protein to recruit or bind proteins in the lysosome or endoplasmic reticulum. In the present study, we identified EVA1A as a target of microRNA-125b (miR-125b), a member of a highly conserved family of miRNAs that has been proposed as a biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Analysis of oxaliplatin-sensitive and oxaliplatin-resistant HCC cell lines showed that miR-125b is downregulated in resistant cells and its overexpression in sensitive cells decreased resistance to oxaliplatin by inhibiting cell proliferation, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). EVA1A expression was shown to be upregulated in tissue samples from oxaliplatin-resistant HCC patients, and its ectopic expression partially induced autophagy and reversed the effect of miR-125b on inhibiting the growth of oxaliplatin-resistant cell lines and xenograft tumors. Taken together, our results suggest that miR-125b plays a role in the resistance of HCC cells to chemotherapy via a mechanism involving the downregulation of EVA1A-mediated autophagy.

To prospectively evaluate the diagnostic performance of three-dimensional (3D) shear wave elastography (SWE) for breast lesions with quantitative stiffness information from transverse, sagittal and coronal planes.Conventional ultrasound (US), two-dimensional (2D)-SWE and 3D-SWE were performed for 122 consecutive patients with 122 breast lesions before biopsy or surgical excision. Maximum elasticity values of Young's modulus (Emax) were recorded on 2D-SWE and three planes of 3D-SWE. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity of US, 2D-SWE and 3D-SWE were evaluated. Two combined sets (i.e., BI-RADS and 2D-SWE; BI-RADS and 3D-SWE) were compared in AUC. Observer consistency was also evaluated.On 3D-SWE, the AUC and sensitivity of sagittal plane were significantly higher than those of transverse and coronal planes (both P0.05). Compared with BI-RADS alone, both combined sets had significantly (P0.05) higher AUCs and specificities, whereas, the two combined sets showed no significant difference in AUC (P0.05). However, the combined set of BI-RADS and sagittal plane of 3D-SWE had significantly higher sensitivity than the combined set of BI-RADS and 2D-SWE.The sagittal plane shows the best diagnostic performance among 3D-SWE. The combination of BI-RADS and 3D-SWE is a useful tool for predicting breast malignant lesions in comparison with BI-RADS alone.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the diagnostic performance of shear wave speed (SWS) within the lesion, fat-to-lesion speed ratio (FLR), and gland-to-lesion speed ratio (GLR) for differentiation between benign and malignant breast lesions using a novel SWS imaging technique. METHODS From April 2016 to June 2016, 182 breast lesions were prospectively included in the study. For each lesion, SWS-lesion, FLR, and GLR were calculated. Pathological results were used as the reference standard. Receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) were plotted to assess the diagnostic performance. RESULTS Of the 182 lesions, 142 (78.0%) were benign and 40 (22.0%) were malignant. Studies have shown the potential of nanomaterials for the accurate and early detection of cancer. The aim of the present study was to design and evaluate the value of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSA)-targeted manganese oxide–mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Mn–Msns) for the detection of prostate cancer. Mn–Msns were prepared, and then conjugated with the PSA antibody and Cy7 to create the multimodality PSA-Mn-Msn-Cy7. Their particle size, zeta potential, stability and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of the nanoparticles were characterized. Optical and MR imaging were evaluated in cell and tumor-bearing mouse models. The Mn in tissues was measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The fabricated nanoparticles were stable and showed good T1relaxivity. The targeted nanoparticles accumulated to a great extent in prostate cancer cells in vitro but not in noncancerous cells. In vivo studies further demonstrated a targeted distribution of PSA-Mn-Msn-Cy7 to cancer tissues as shown by high optical and T1 signals. The targeted distribution was also confirmed by determining the Mn content in the cancer tissues. Our data demonstrate that PSA targeted fluorescence and MR dual-functional nanoparticle can visualize prostate cancer and can be used as NIRF/MR contrast agents.

This geological model involved computer modeling and visualization of geological fault in 3D, the type of data of geological faults based on geological exploration is analyzed, after the fault model and horizon model are built, a whole structure model is finally set up.

This paper describes the identification of waterflooded zones and the impact of waterflooding on reservoir properties of sandstones of the Funing Formation at the Gao 6 Fault-block of the Gaoji Oilfield, in the Subei Basin, east China. This work presents a new approach based on a back-propagation neural network using well log data to train the network, and then generating a cross-plot plate to identify waterflooded zones. A neural network was designed and trained, and the results show that the new method is better than traditional methods. For a comparative study, two representative wells at the Gao 6 Fault-block were chosen for analysis: one from a waterflooded zone, and the other from a zone without waterflooding. Results from this analysis were used to develop a better understanding of the impact of waterflooding on reservoir properties. A range of changes are shown to have taken place in the waterflooded zone, including changes in microscopic pore structure, fluids, and minerals.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to comparatively evaluate the two different shear wave speed (SWS) imaging systems of Toshiba shear wave elastography (T-SWE) and SuperSonic SWE (S-SWE) in distinguishing malignant from benign thyroid nodules (TNs). MATERIALS AND METHODS 140 patients with 140 focal TNs were enrolled and underwent T-SWE and S-SWE before fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy or surgery. SWE indices of mean, standard deviation and maximum values (E-mean, E-SD and E-max) of elastic modulus in TNs were measured on a color-coded mapping. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to assess the diagnostic performance. RESULTS Of the 140 nodules, 47 were thyroid carcinomas and 93 were benign. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were the highest with E-max among the three SWE parameters both for T-SWE and S-SWE (0.816 and 0.799). The most accurate cut-off values, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were 26.6 kPa versus 42.9 kPa, 83.0% versus 63.8%, 68.8% versus 88.2%, 72.9% versus 80.0%, 56.5% versus 73.2% and 88.7% versus 82.8% with E-max for T-SWE and S-SWE, respectively.
