Abstract

Despite the recent upsurge of activity in image-based non-photorealistic rendering (NPR), and in particular portrait image stylisation, due to the advent of neural style transfer, the state of performance evaluation in this field is limited, especially compared to the norms in the computer vision and machine learning communities. Unfortunately, the task of evaluating image stylisation is thus far not well defined, since it involves subjective, perceptual and aesthetic aspects. To make progress towards a solution, this paper proposes a new structured, three level, benchmark dataset for the evaluation of stylised portrait images. Rigorous criteria were used for its construction, and its consistency was validated by user studies. Moreover, a new methodology has been developed for evaluating portrait stylisation algorithms, which makes use of the different benchmark levels as well as annotations provided by user studies regarding the characteristics of the faces. We perform evaluation for a wide variety of image stylisation methods (both portrait-specific and general purpose, and also both traditional NPR approaches and neural style transfer) using the new benchmark dataset., Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures

Abstract

The numerical optimization of thick airfoils by means of genetic- and gradient-based numerical optimization in combination with a Navier-Stokes code is described and the results are discussed. The objectives of the study are to maximize both the section moment of inertia, and the airfoil lift-to-drag ratio at fully turbulent conditions and a chord Reynolds number of 1 x [10.sup.6]. A robust and flexible airfoil surface definition that is based on polynomial functions and allows for blunt trailing edges is used to generate section shapes with a maximum-thickness-to-chord ratio between 35 and 42%. To mitigate the unsteady vortex shedding, a splitter plate is added to the blunt trailing edge of the resulting airfoils. This allows steady-state simulations with the Navier-Stokes code and reduces the calculation time. The study resulted in a Pareto front, which represents a range of aerodynamically and structurally improved airfoils. Although the optimizer was given the opportunity to create airfoils with a nominally sharp trailing edge, the improved airfoils all contain significant trailing-edge thickness.

Abstract

P-funktionalisierte 1-Diethylamino-1-fluor-2-phosphaalkene des Typs R3E–P=C(F)NEt2 [R/E = Me/Si (2), Me/Ge (3), CF3/Ge (4), Me/Sn (5)] entstehen aus HP=C(F)NEt2 (1, E/Z = 18/82) durch Umsetzung mit R3EX (X = I, Cl) in Gegenwart von Triethylamin als Base ausschliesslich als Z-Isomere. 2–5 sind thermolabil, so das nur die stabileren Vertreter 2 und 4 in reiner Form isoliert und vollstandig charakterisiert werden konnten. 3 und 5 zersetzen sich schon bei Temperaturen oberhalb –10 °C, lassen sich aber durch 19F- und 31P-NMR-Messungen eindeutig identifizieren. Die Z-Konfiguration wird durch typische NMR-Daten sowie durch Rontgenstrukturanalyse von 4 bewiesen und durch ab initio Berechnungen beider Konfigurationen der Modellverbindung Me3Si–P=C(F)NMe2 bestatigt. Das relativ stabile Derivat 2 wird als Edukt fur die Umsetzungen mit Pivaloyl-, Adamantoyl- bzw. Benzoylchlorid verwendet, die unter Spaltung der Si–P-Bindung zu den push/pull Phosphaalkenen RC(O)–P=C(F)NEt2 [R = tBu (6), Ad (7), Ph (8)] fuhren, in denen an der π-Delokalisation mit der P=C-Doppelbindung auser dem einsamen Elektronenpaar am Stickstoff auch die Carbonylgruppe beteiligt ist. Preparation, Characterization, and Structure of Functionalized Fluorophosphaalkenes of the Type R3E–P=C(F)NEt2 (R/E = Me/Si, Me/Ge, CF3/Ge, Me/Sn) P-functionalized 1-diethylamino-1-fluoro-2-phosphaalkenes of the type R3E–P=C(F)NEt2 [R/E = Me/Si (2), Me/Ge (3), CF3/Ge (4), Me/Sn (5)] are prepared by reaction of HP=C(F)NEt2 (1, E/Z = 18/82) with R3EX (X = I, Cl) in the presence of triethylamine as base, exclusively as Z-Isomers. 2–5 are thermolabile, so that only the more stable representatives 2 and 4 can be isolated in pure form and fully characterized. 3 and 5 decompose already at temperatures above –10 °C, but are clearly identified by 19F and 31P NMR-measurements. The Z configuration is established on the basis of typical NMR data, an X-ray diffraction analysis of 4 and ab initio calculations for E and Z configurations of the model compound Me3Si–P=C(F)NMe2. The relatively stable derivative 2 is used as an educt for reactions with pivaloyl-, adamantoyl-, and benzoylchloride, respectively, which by cleavage of the Si–P bond yield the push/pull phosphaalkenes RC(O)–P=C(F)NEt2 [R = tBu (6), Ad (7), Ph (8)], in which π-delocalization with the P=C double bond occurs both with the lone pair on nitrogen and with the carbonyl group.

Abstract

An exclusive measurement of the decay eta -> pi(+) pi(-) gamma has been performed at the WASA facility at COSY. The eta mesons were produced in the fusion reaction pd -> He-3 X at a proton beam momentum of 1.7 GeV/c. Efficiency corrected differential distributions have been extracted based on 13 960 +/- 140 events after background subtraction. The measured pion angular distribution is consistent with a relative p-wave of the two-pion system, whereas the measured photon energy spectrum was found at variance with the simplest gauge invariant matrix element of eta -> pi(+) pi(-) gamma. A parameterization of the data can be achieved by the additional inclusion of the empirical pion vector form factor multiplied by a first-order polynomial in the squared invariant mass of the pi(+) pi(-) system. Abstract

The reaction pp -> pp pi(0)pi(0) has been investigated at a beam energy of 1.4 GeV using the WASA-at-COSY facility. The total cross section is found to be (324 +/- 21(systematic) +/- 58(normalization)) mu b. In order to study the production mechanism, differential kinematic distributions have been evaluated. The differential distributions indicate that both initial state protons are excited into intermediate Delta(1232) resonances, each decaying into a proton and a single pion, thereby producing the pion pair in the final state. No significant contribution of the Roper resonance N*(1440) via its decay into a proton and two pions is found. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

In the first production run of the WASA experiment at COSY, the eta decay into three neutral pions was measured in proton-proton interactions at a proton beam kinetic energy of 1.4 GeV. The Dalitz plot of the three pions was studied using 1.2e5 fully reconstructed events, and the quadratic slope parameter alpha was determined to be -0.027+/-0.008(stat)+/-0.005(syst).
