Obtaining and maintaining steady employment can be challenging for people from vulnerable groups. Previous research has focused on the relationship between employer size and employment outcomes for these groups, but the findings have been inconsistent. To clarify this relationship, the current study uses structural topic modeling, a mixed methods research design, to disclose and explain factors behind the association between employer size and labor market outcomes for people from vulnerable groups. The data consist of qualitative interview transcripts concerning the hiring and inclusion of people from vulnerable groups. These were quantitized and analyzed using structural topic modeling. The goals were to investigate topical content and prevalence according to employer size, to provide a comprehensive guide for model estimation and interpretation, and to highlight the wide applicability of this method in social science research. Model estimation resulted in a model with five topics: training, practicalities of the inclusion processes, recruitment, contexts of inclusion, and work demands. The analysis revealed that topical prevalence differed between employers according to size. Thus, these estimated topics can provide evidence as to why the association between employer size and labor market outcomes for vulnerable groups varies across studies––different employers highlight different aspects of work inclusion. Background: A voluntary and free initial health assessment is offered to all asylum seekers upon arrival in Finland. The central aim of this initial health assessment is early identification of service needs. There is, however, limited information on how effective the initial assessment is in fulfilling its aims. This study explores the viewpoints of asylum seekers, reception centre nurses, and health authorities regarding the objectives of the initial health assessment. It serves as a starting point for effectiveness research, where effectiveness is defined as the achievement of intended aims. Methods: This qualitative descriptive study is based on 31 semi-structured individual interviews (13 asylum seekers, 14 nurses, and four asylum health authorities) conducted in January and February 2019. Reflective thematic analysis was employed for data analysis, involving initial separate analyses for each group, followed by an assessment of differences and similarities between the groups. Results: The importance of a comprehensive initial health assessment and preventing infections was emphasized by all groups. The main differences were views on service needs assessment in relation to persons in vulnerable situation and information provision. All groups described both individual and public health perspectives. Conclusions: This study provides valuable insights for developing a more effective assessment. Asylum seekers require comprehensive health assessment and details about their rights. To address these needs, it is crucial to update reception centre nurses' practices. Additionally, authorities responsible for planning and guiding services should refine their instructions concerning the information provided to asylum seekers and persons in vulnerable situations. The findings of this study can be used to enhance information provision and develop targeted training programs for nurses, as well as to evaluate the achievement of established aims. Mercury levels of Nile perch fillets to be exported from selected fish processing industries in Uganda were determined by hot digestion in strong acids, followed by analysing the extracts with Inductive Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS). There was a clear link between atmospheric mercury and methylmercury accumulation in fish tissues, thus exposing a possible threat for human health. A quantitative cross-sectional study design was undertaken from two fish processing factories around Kampala city. Simple random sampling was utilised where ten fish products were picked for analysis. The results obtained from the analysis of samples from both factories presented mercury levels far below the FAO/WHO guideline level of 0.5 mg/kg for mercury in fish. The mercury levels for both factories were higher than the oral daily recommended dose of 0.001 mg/kg body weight for the vulnerable population raising eyebrows for the general population, since fish is a major contributor to mercury intake for consumers. Background: Kerala, a southern state in India, is known to be atypical due to its high literacy rate and advanced social development indicators. Facing competition from a dominant private healthcare system, recent government health system reforms have focused on providing free, high-quality universal healthcare in the public sector. We carried out an analysis to ascertain the initial impacts of these measures among 'hard to reach groups' as part of a larger health policy and systems research study, with a focus on public sector health service utilisation. Methods: We conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) among identified vulnerable groups across four districts of Kerala between March and August of 2022. The FGDs explored community perspectives on the use of public healthcare facilities including enablers and barriers to healthcare access. Transliterated English transcripts were coded using ATLAS.ti software and thematically analyzed using the AAAQ framework, supplemented with inductive code generation. Results: A total of 34 FGDs were conducted. Availability and cost-effectiveness were major reasons for choosing public healthcare, with the availability of public insurance in inpatient facilities influencing this preference. However, accessibility of public sector facilities posed challenges due to long journeys and queues. Uneven roads and the non-availability of public transport further restricted access. Gaps in acceptability were also observed: participants noted the need for the availability of special treatments available, reduced waiting times for special groups like those from tribal communities or the elderly mindful of their relatively greater travel and need for prompt care. Although quality improvements resulting from health reform measures were acknowledged, participants articulated the need for further enhancements in the availability and accessibility of services so as to make public healthcare systems truly acceptable. Conclusion: The 'Kerala Model of Development' has been applauded internationally for its success in recent years. However, this has not inured the state from the typical barriers to public sector health care use articulated by participants in the study, which match global evidence. In order to deepen the impact of public sector reforms, the state must try to meet service user expectations– especially among those left behind. This requires attention to quality, timeliness, outreach and physical access. Longer term impacts of these reforms – as we move to a post-COVID scenario - should also be evaluated. Developing creativity in socio-educational organizations facilitates progress towards sustainability, benefiting its professionals and users. The objective of this work is to analyze the creative climate in organizations that intervene with vulnerable groups to promote sustainability through Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10). A descriptive–correlational study was conducted with 203 professionals from associations, foundations, and social services councils. The CPPC-17 scale was applied, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, nonparametric tests, and cluster analysis. The results showed that the professionals presented high levels of creative potential. The opportunity to participate in work groups and the freedom to perform tasks favored creativity in the organizations. The main obstacles to creativity were the lack of incentive to take risks and of rewards for creative ideas. The profile of professionals with high levels of creative climate was mainly composed of association workers and those trained in Education, Psychology, and Speech Therapy. Significant differences were obtained in variables related to the organization (e.g., typology) and in personal variables, such as the academic background of the trainers. These findings should be considered to improve the creative climate in these organizations with a view to providing quality, egalitarian, and equitable education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
