INTRODUCTION: A periodical self-monitoring of spherical refraction using smartphones may potentially allow a quicker intervention by eye care professionals to reduce myopia progression. Unfortunately, at low levels of myopia, the far point (FP) can be located far away from the eye which can make interactions with the device difficult. To partially remedy this issue, a novel method is proposed and tested wherein the longitudinal chromatic aberration (LCA) of blue light is leveraged to optically bring the FP closer to the eye. METHODS: Firstly, LCA was obtained by measuring spherical refraction subjectively using blue pixels in stimuli shown on organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens and also grey stimuli with matching luminance. Secondly, the visual acuity (VA) measured with a smartphone located at 1.0 m and 1.5 m and displaying blue optotypes was compared with that obtained clinically standard measurements. Finally, the spherical over refraction obtained in blue light with a smartphone was compared with clinical over-refraction with black and white (B&W) optotypes placed at 6 m. RESULTS: Mean LCA of blue OLED smartphone screens was -0.67 ± 0.11 D. No significant differences (p > 0.05) were found between the VA measured with blue optotypes on a smartphone screen and an eye chart. Mean difference between spherical over-refraction measured subjectively by experienced subjects with smartphones and the one obtained clinically was 0.08 ± 0.34 D. CONCLUSIONS: Smartphones using blue light can be used as a tool to detect changes in visual acuity and spherical refraction and facilitate monitoring of myopia progression.

Abstract Background Prokaryotic microbes have impacted marine biogeochemical cycles for billions of years. Viruses also impact these cycles, through lysis, horizontal gene transfer, and encoding and expressing genes that contribute to metabolic reprogramming of prokaryotic cells. While this impact is difficult to quantify in nature, we hypothesized that it can be examined by surveying virus-encoded auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs) and assessing their ecological context. Results We systematically developed a global ocean AMG catalog by integrating previously described and newly identified AMGs and then placed this catalog into ecological and metabolic contexts relevant to ocean biogeochemistry. From 7.6 terabases of Tara Oceans paired prokaryote- and virus-enriched metagenomic sequence data, we increased known ocean virus populations to 579,904 (up 16%). From these virus populations, we then conservatively identified 86,913 AMGs that grouped into 22,779 sequence-based gene clusters, 7248 (~ 32%) of which were not previously reported. Using our catalog and modeled data from mock communities, we estimate that ~ 19% of ocean virus populations carry at least one AMG. To understand AMGs in their metabolic context, we identified 340 metabolic pathways encoded by ocean microbes and showed that AMGs map to 128 of them. Furthermore, we identified metabolic “hot spots” targeted by virus AMGs, including nine pathways where most steps (≥ 0.75) were AMG-targeted (involved in carbohydrate, amino acid, fatty acid, and nucleotide metabolism), as well as other pathways where virus-encoded AMGs outnumbered cellular homologs (involved in lipid A phosphates, phosphatidylethanolamine, creatine biosynthesis, phosphoribosylamine-glycine ligase, and carbamoyl-phosphate synthase pathways). Conclusions Together, this systematically curated, global ocean AMG catalog and analyses provide a valuable resource and foundational observations to understand the role of viruses in modulating global ocean metabolisms and their biogeochemical implications. Abstract Background Symbioses between primary producers and bacteria are crucial for nutrient exchange that fosters host growth and niche adaptation. Yet, how viruses that infect bacteria (phages) influence these bacteria-eukaryote interactions is still largely unknown. Here, we investigate the role of viruses on the genomic diversity and functional adaptations of bacteria associated with pelagic sargassum. This brown alga has dramatically increased its distribution range in the Atlantic in the past decade and is predicted to continue expanding, imposing severe impacts on coastal ecosystems, economies, and human health. Results We reconstructed 73 bacterial and 3963 viral metagenome-assembled genomes (bMAGs and vMAGs, respectively) from coastal Sargassum natans VIII and surrounding seawater. S. natans VIII bMAGs were enriched in prophages compared to seawater (28% and 0.02%, respectively). Rhodobacterales and Synechococcus bMAGs, abundant members of the S. natans VIII microbiome, were shared between the algae and seawater but were associated with distinct phages in each environment. Genes related to biofilm formation and quorum sensing were enriched in S. natans VIII phages, indicating their potential to influence algal association in their bacterial hosts. In-vitro assays with a bacterial community harvested from sargassum surface biofilms and depleted of free viruses demonstrated that these bacteria are protected from lytic infection by seawater viruses but contain intact and inducible prophages. These bacteria form thicker biofilms when growing on sargassum-supplemented seawater compared to seawater controls, and phage induction using mitomycin C was associated with a significant decrease in biofilm formation. The induced metagenomes were enriched in genomic sequences classified as temperate viruses compared to uninduced controls. Conclusions Our data shows that prophages contribute to the flexible genomes of S. natans VIII-associated bacteria. These prophages encode genes with symbiotic functions, and their induction decreases biofilm formation, an essential capacity for flexible symbioses between bacteria and the alga. These results indicate that prophage acquisition and induction contribute to genomic and functional diversification during sargassum-bacteria symbioses, with potential implications for algae growth. Abstract: The fate of oceanic carbon and nutrients depends on interactions between viruses, prokaryotes, and unicellular eukaryotes (protists) in a highly interconnected planktonic food web. To date, few controlled mechanistic studies of these interactions exist, and where they do, they are largely pairwise, focusing either on viral infection (i.e., virocells) or protist predation. Here we studied population-level responses of Synechococcus cyanobacterial virocells (i.e., cyanovirocells) to the protist Oxyrrhis marina using transcriptomics, endo- and exo-metabolomics, photosynthetic efficiency measurements, and microscopy. Protist presence had no measurable impact on Synechococcus transcripts or endometabolites. The cyanovirocells alone had a smaller intracellular transcriptional and metabolic response than cyanovirocells co-cultured with protists, displaying known patterns of virus-mediated metabolic reprogramming while releasing diverse exometabolites during infection. When protists were added, several exometabolites disappeared, suggesting microbial consumption. In addition, the intracellular cyanovirocell impact was largest, with 4.5- and 10-fold more host transcripts and endometabolites, respectively, responding to protists, especially those involved in resource and energy production. Physiologically, photosynthetic efficiency also increased, and together with the transcriptomics and metabolomics findings suggest that cyanovirocell metabolic demand is highest when protists are present. These data illustrate cyanovirocell responses to protist presence that are not yet considered when linking microbial physiology to global-scale biogeochemical processes.

The current review offers an analysis of the prevailing literature on teacher learning in language teaching from an international perspective. We initially revisit several contributions from a general education perspective. Then, we focus on three dominant approaches, identified through the literature, to understand teacher learning from a language teaching perspective. Finally, we provide implications for teacher educators to consider in the preparation of prospective language teachers. These include acknowledging future teachers' prior cognitions and learning experiences, highlighting the benefits of collaborative work and communities of practice, and adapting and innovating within the social constraints of their teaching context.

Abstract Background Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a predominant chronic liver condition globally and is strongly associated with obesity, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia. Essential phospholipids (EPL) are recommended as supportive treatment for managing liver conditions, including MASLD or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and viral hepatitis. While efficacy of EPL as an adjunctive therapy in MASLD treatment has been established earlier, certain aspects of its usage such as the impact of standard-of-care parameters, effect of EPL on quality of life (QoL) and change in symptoms evaluation in patients with MASLD remain unexplored. The proposed trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of EPL and the subsequent QoL of patients with MASLD associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and/or hyperlipidemia and/or obesity. Methods This is a multicenter, multinational, double-blind, randomized, two-arm, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, phase IV clinical trial. The trial is being conducted in approximately 190 patients who are randomized on a 1:1 basis either to the EPL arm (Essentiale® 1800 mg/day orally + standard of care) or placebo arm (placebo + standard of care). The primary outcome is to assess the efficacy of EPL on hepatic steatosis, as measured by transient elastography, from baseline to 6 months. The secondary outcomes include change in QoL parameters, as measured by the Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire–metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease/ metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis and change in symptom evaluation (using the Global Overall Symptom scale) from baseline to 6 months for symptoms, including asthenia, feeling depressed, abdominal pain/discomfort, or fatigue. Discussion The current protocol design will allow to comprehensively explore the efficacy of EPL added to the standard of care on hepatic steatosis and QoL and its safety in patients with MASLD associated with T2DM and/or hyperlipidemia and/or obesity by assessing various outcome measures. El plantel educativo CETIS se encuentra en una zona de alta incidencia delictiva, causando un sentimiento de inseguridad en el estudiantado, lo que termina afectando el de-sarrollo de cada uno de ellos. Si bien es preocupante observar este problema social, también resulta importante externar la violencia que existe dentro de la escuela. En el marco de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, especialmente el objetivo 16 (Paz, justicia e instituciones sólidas) el cual propone disminuir todas las formas de violencia en la sociedad, se inserta el propósito de este trabajo al explorar propuestas para disminuir entre los escolares toda clase de violencia juvenil. Utilizando un enfoque mixto de investigación, los estudiantes realiza-ron un diagnóstico sobre las formas de violencia más frecuentes y esbozaron alternativas para aminorarlas. Las expresiones de violencia más recurrentes entre la comunidad estu-diantil fueron las de tipo verbal y psicológica, además, reconocieron la violencia familiar en la que viven. Las alternativas para detener estas prácticas fueron el fomentar la empatía con discursos, ejercicios y el aprender a expresar y controlar sus emociones sin necesidad de lastimar a otros.

Abstract The project managers who deal with risk management are often faced with the difficult task of determining the relative importance of the various sources of risk that affect the project. This prioritisation is crucial to direct management efforts to ensure higher project profitability. Risk matrices are widely recognised tools by academics and practitioners in various sectors to assess and rank risks according to their likelihood of occurrence and impact on project objectives. However, the existing literature highlights several limitations to use the risk matrix. In response to the weaknesses of its use, this paper proposes a novel approach for prioritising project risks. Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is used to perform a quantitative prioritisation of risks with the simulation software MCSimulRisk. Together with the definition of project activities, the simulation includes the identified risks by modelling their probability and impact on cost and duration. With this novel methodology, a quantitative assessment of the impact of each risk is provided, as measured by the effect that it would have on project duration and its total cost. This allows the differentiation of critical risks according to their impact on project duration, which may differ if cost is taken as a priority objective. This proposal is interesting for project managers because they will, on the one hand, know the absolute impact of each risk on their project duration and cost objectives and, on the other hand, be able to discriminate the impacts of each risk independently on the duration objective and the cost objective.

Abstract Background Recursive models are a category of structural equation models that propose a causal relationship between traits. These models are more parameterized than multiple trait models, and they require imposing restrictions on the parameter space to ensure statistical identification. Nevertheless, in certain situations, the likelihood of recursive models and multiple trait models are equivalent. Consequently, the estimates of variance components derived from the multiple trait mixed model can be converted into estimates under several recursive models through LDL′ or block-LDL′ transformations. Results The procedure was employed on a dataset comprising five traits (birth weight—BW, weight at 90 days—W90, weight at 210 days—W210, cold carcass weight—CCW and conformation—CON) from the Pirenaica beef cattle breed. These phenotypic records were unequally distributed among 149,029 individuals and had a high percentage of missing data. The pedigree used consisted of 343,753 individuals. A Bayesian approach involving a multiple-trait mixed model was applied using a Gibbs sampler. The variance components obtained at each iteration of the Gibbs sampler were subsequently used to estimate the variance components within three distinct recursive models. Conclusions The LDL′ or block-LDL′ transformations applied to the variance component estimates achieved from a multiple trait mixed model enabled inference across multiple sets of recursive models, with the sole prerequisite of being likelihood equivalent. Furthermore, the aforementioned transformations simplify the handling of missing data when conducting inference within the realm of recursive models.

Las instituciones educacionales del área de las ciencias de la salud, desarrollan un perfeccionamiento continuo que las enriquece y las transforma con la propia dinámica de la sociedad. Los avances de la ciencia, la tecnología y el incesante flujo del progreso demandan adoptar una actitud renovadora perenne en aras de mejorar la calidad de la educación de pregrado y posgrado en las diferentes disciplinas de la carrera de Medicina. No obstante, se han identificado insuficiencias en la ausencia de algunos contenidos inherentes a la Especialidad de Gastroenterología que limitan un diagnóstico precoz y adecuado tratamiento oportuno, en pacientes que presentan enfermedades focalizadas en el tracto digestivo inferior. En consecuencia, el artículo se propone ofrecer una metodología del contenido diagnóstico-tratamiento a las enfermedades del tracto digestivo inferior desde el proceso pedagógico en la que se especifican sus procedimientos y pasos lógicos para perfeccionar el desempeño profesional del especialista, y a su vez, permitirá alcanzar los objetivos propuestos por el programa académico. Se emplearon como métodos teóricos: análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción, revisión documental y modelación, y empíricos: observación, encuesta, entrevista y productos de la actividad pedagógica, así como el experimento formativo, que permitieron determinar las principales insuficiencias de estudiantes y docentes en el referido contenido y fundamentar la propuesta. En la investigación se describen los resultados a través del experimento pedagógico formativo, los cuales demostraron la factibilidad y viabilidad de la metodología implementada. El impacto logrado afloró las transformaciones que se manifiestan en el desempeño profesional médico del especialista en Gastroenterología.

Abstract The 2023 monkeypox (mpox) epidemic was caused by a subclade IIb descendant of a monkeypox virus (MPXV) lineage traced back to Nigeria in 1971. Person-to-person transmission appears higher than for clade I or subclade IIa MPXV, possibly caused by genomic changes in subclade IIb MPXV. Key genomic changes could occur in the genome’s low-complexity regions (LCRs), which are challenging to sequence and are often dismissed as uninformative. Here, using a combination of highly sensitive techniques, we determine a high-quality MPXV genome sequence of a representative of the current epidemic with LCRs resolved at unprecedented accuracy. This reveals significant variation in short tandem repeats within LCRs. We demonstrate that LCR entropy in the MPXV genome is significantly higher than that of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and that LCRs are not randomly distributed. In silico analyses indicate that expression, translation, stability, or function of MPXV orthologous poxvirus genes (OPGs), including OPG153, OPG204, and OPG208, could be affected in a manner consistent with the established “genomic accordion” evolutionary strategies of orthopoxviruses. We posit that genomic studies focusing on phenotypic MPXV differences should consider LCR variability.

El papel de las clases creativas, más concretamente las vinculadas con el arte, ejerce un impacto en el paisaje de las ciudades facilitando procesos de transformación y reestructuración del espacio urbano, en su mayoría bajo estrategias de gentrificación. En las ciudades posmodernas la promoción del arte —desde entidades tanto públicas como privadas— en muchos casos es un instrumento al servicio de operaciones de transformación económica-cultural de barrios de clase trabajadora o áreas obsoletas para la lógica productiva dominante. Las intervenciones artísticas, los espacios culturales y los o las propias artistas facilitan la recuperación, la revalorización simbólica y económica del espacio urbano. El presente artículo quiere poner de manifiesto el análisis abordado por intelectuales que trabajan el binomio arte y gentrificación, así como algunas prácticas artísticas que denuncian e impugnan este proceso de aburguesamiento urbano. Abordaremos una serie de experiencias artísticas desde el que fue el epicentro de dichas prácticas, la ciudad de Nueva York a partir de los años 70 del siglo XX, así como en un contexto próximo como las desplegadas en algunas ciudades españolas, en las últimas décadas.

In beef cattle, dams play a crucial role in shaping the pre- and postnatal environment for the growth of their offspring. Acknowledging the substantial impact of maternal influence on the early development of calves, researchers utilize maternal animal models. These models take into account both maternal genetic and permanent environmental effects, operating under the assumption that these influences remain constant throughout the productive life of the cow. Nevertheless, it cannot be ruled out that these genetic and environmental effects may evolve throughout the lifespan of the cows. Therefore, this study aims to describe the changes in genetic and environmental maternal effects over the productive lifespan of cows. To accomplish this goal, we utilized random regression models, incorporating the age of the dam effect, maternal genetic effects, and environmental permanent effects using Legendre orthogonal polynomials. Additionally, the analytical model incorporated a covariate to adjust for the calf’s age at recording, a two-level sex effect, a random herd-year-season effect, and an additive direct genetic effect associated linked to the calf. The dataset comprised information from dams aged between 2 and 16 years, resulting in a final database that comprised weight records of 58 332 calves from 21 673 dams. The average weight at 90 days was 135.0 ± 39.3 kg, and the mean age of the dam at calving was 7.03 ± 3.41 years. We evaluated models incorporating 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 orthogonal polynomials alongside the standard maternal animal model. Afterward, we selected the model with five orthogonal polynomials based on the Akaike Information Criteria. The Restricted Maximum Likelihood estimates within this model indicated a direct heritability of around 0.50, and a maternal heritability ranging between 0.15 and 0.25, exhibiting a consistent increase between 4, 5 to 13 years. The genetic correlation estimates between direct and maternal genetic effects remained stable at approximately −0.55 across the lifespan of the cows. Furthermore, maternal genetic correlations between different ages of the dam decreased to around 0.7 for more distant age points. The maternal permanent correlations were notably lower, occasionally even reaching negative values, suggesting variability in environmental influence on maternal effects over the productive lifespan of the cow. Finally, the model enables the prediction of breeding values for the maternal genetic effects of the cow across its lifespan, providing opportunities for innovative selection strategies on the maternal side.

Summary: Background: The clinical relevance of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) after discontinuing anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19-associated VTE remains uncertain. We estimated the incidence rates and mortality of VTE recurrences developing after discontinuing anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19-associated VTE. Methods: A prospective, multicenter, non-interventional study was conducted between March 25, 2020, and July 26, 2023, including patients who had discontinued anticoagulation after at least 3 months of therapy. All patients from the registry were analyzed during the study period to verify inclusion criteria. Patients with superficial vein thrombosis, those who did not receive at least 3 months of anticoagulant therapy, and those who were followed for less than 15 days after discontinuing anticoagulation were excluded. Outcomes were: 1) Incidence rates of symptomatic VTE recurrences, and 2) fatal PE. The rate of VTE recurrences was defined as the number of patients with recurrent VTE divided by the patient-years at risk of recurrent VTE during the period when anticoagulation was discontinued. Findings: Among 1106 patients with COVID-19-associated VTE (age 62.3 ± 14.4 years; 62.9% male) followed-up for 12.5 months (p25-75, 6.3–20.1) after discontinuing anticoagulation, there were 38 VTE recurrences (3.5%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.5–4.7%), with a rate of 3.1 per 100 patient-years (95% CI: 2.2–4.2). No patient died of recurrent PE (0%, 95% CI: 0–7.6%). Subgroup analyses showed that patients with diagnosis in 2021–2022 (vs. 2020) (Hazard ratio [HR] 2.86; 95% CI 1.45–5.68) or those with isolated deep vein thrombosis (vs. pulmonary embolism) (HR 2.31; 95% CI 1.19–4.49) had significantly higher rates of VTE recurrences. Interpretation: In patients with COVID-19-associated VTE who discontinued anticoagulation after at least 3 months of treatment, the incidence rate of recurrent VTE and the case-fatality rate was low. Therefore, it conceivable that long-term anticoagulation may not be required for many patients with COVID-19-associated VTE, although further research is needed to confirm these findings. When an energy rehabilitation of a building is planned, the aim is to achieve a significant energy saving. However, how to assess these savings can be difficult. A first idea may be monitoring the building before and after rehabilitation, but the climatic conditions can differ, which may mislead the conclusions. In this work, this problem was avoided by monitoring two similar buildings for a year, one of them energy retrofitted and the other not, sited in the same location (Zaragoza, Spain) and also with the same orientation and geometry, same climate, inner conditions as similar as possible but different materials in the enclosures: rehabilitated and original. This accurately compares energy consumption between the rehabilitated building and the non-renovated building. The yearly energy savings achieved were 58.42 % with the rehabilitation.

Predation pressure and herbivory exert cascading effects on coral reef health and stability. However, the extent of these cascading effects can vary considerably across space and time. This variability is likely a result of the complex interactions between coral reefs' biotic and abiotic dimensions. A major biological component that has been poorly integrated into the reefs' trophic studies is the microbial community, despite its role in coral death and bleaching susceptibility. Viruses that infect bacteria can control microbial densities and may positively affect coral health by controlling microbialization. We hypothesize that viral predation of bacteria has analogous effects to the top-down pressure of macroorganisms on the trophic structure and reef health. Here, we investigated the relationships between live coral cover and viruses, bacteria, benthic algae, fish biomass, and water chemistry in 110 reefs spanning inhabited and uninhabited islands and atolls across the Pacific Ocean. Statistical learning showed that the abundance of turf algae, viruses, and bacteria, in that order, were the variables best predicting the variance in coral cover. While fish biomass was not a strong predictor of coral cover, the relationship between fish and corals became apparent when analyzed in the context of viral predation: high coral cover (> 50%) occurred on reefs with a combination of high predator fish biomass (sum of sharks and piscivores > 200 g m-2) and high virus-to-bacteria ratios (> 10), an indicator of viral predation pressure. However, these relationships were non-linear, with reefs at the higher and lower ends of the coral cover continuum displaying a narrow combination of abiotic and biotic variables, while reefs at intermediate coral cover showed a wider range of parameter combinations. The results presented here support the hypothesis that viral predation of bacteria is associated with high coral cover and, thus, coral health and stability. We propose that combined predation pressures from fishes and viruses control energy fluxes, inhibiting the detrimental accumulation of ecosystem energy in the microbial food web.

Foundation: Postoperative pain is considered time-limited pain, often poorly controlled. Its management represents a great challenge, since postoperative analgesia must provide the mother with adequate control, and at the same time facilitate care for the baby.Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of subarachnoid anesthesia with morphine as a treatment for postoperative pain in cesarean section.Methods: descriptive and cross-sectional study carried out at the Martín Chang Puga General Teaching Hospital, in the Nuevitas municipality, Camagüey province, between January 2021 and December 2022. 36 patients to whom subarachnoid anesthesia was applied with Hyperbaric lidocaine plus morphine for cesarean section were considered as the sample.Results: the age between 27-31 years predominated. 63.9% of cesarean patients did not report postoperative pain. Almost half of the population (47.2%) studied presented side effects with the use of intrathecal morphine, mainly pruritus. 80.5% expressed satisfaction with postoperative analgesia.Conclusions: the majority of patients were satisfied with the analgesic treatment, despite the presence of adverse effects, so that the use of intrathecal morphine is effective in the management of post-cesarean section pain.

Epidemiological outbreak investigations often prove to be lengthy and inconclusive due to the time-consuming nature of the currently-used approaches. An alternative approach to address these challenges could involve the application of algorithms to support authorities and food business operators by providing timely, relevant and reliable information. Algorithms, such as gravity models, could be applied as commodity trade models, but they require a large amount of reliable and consistent data on trade for generating projections at international, national or even regional level. Several trade databases, such as UN COMTRADE, EUROSTAT, BACI, CHELEM and GTAP, provide information on trace, albeit with variations in the provided information and in the structure. However, it is worth noting that not all of these databases are freely accessible and data management can pose challenges, hampering the access to the trade data. WarenstromInfo (WI) was created as a software solution that allows easy trade data extraction and visualisation for application in different areas, such as outbreak investigations.WarenstromInfo (WI) is an application tool that automatically extracts, decodes and visually displays trade flow data from EUROSTAT "EU trade since 2002 by statistical procedure, by HS2-4-6 and CN8 (DS-059322)" (hereinafter referred to EUROSTAT) and the BACI databases, based on user input.WI was developed by using the open-source desktop software KNIME Analytics Platform. WI offers the flexibility to be executed either as a web service on a KNIME Web Server infrastructure or as a local resource.To integrate the BACI database into WI, the database is annually downloaded as csv files, rebuilt as a SQLite database and hosted locally into the KNIME Web Server Infrastructure. In order to optimise storage space on the KNIME server, this SQLite database specifically includes only agrifood data, reflecting the tool´s focus. Further, data of the SQLite database can be customised by executing the WI workflow locally, enabling the user to expand the database at any time.In contrast to BACI, trade data extraction from the EUROSTAT database is performed via the EUROSTAT’s API (Application Programming Interface) applying GET requests and XML data management.WI displays four User-friendly Interfaces (UIs) designed with interactive KNIME nodes that facilitate the input of variables. The extracted trade flow data are shown through interactive tables directly within the UIs. This feature enables users to easily explore the data in a structured and user-friendly manner. Additionally, WI incorporates the extracted trade flow data into maps. These maps provide a visual representation of the data, allowing users to gain insights and identify patterns and trends geographically. Both, the data table and the maps, can be downloaded as a single Excel file (containing multiple preformatted tables) and as png files, respectively.

This paper explores the right of any victim of crime to be accompanied by any person of her choice from the first contact with the authorities. This right was formally acknowledged by the Directive 2012/29/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2012 establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime, and replacing Council Framework Decision 2001/220/JHA (2012/29/ EU Directive), and transposed to the 2015 Law 4/2015 of 27 April 2015 on the standing of victims of crime (2015 Law 4/2015), subject to exceptions on reasoned grounds. The rationale for this right is the persistent secondary victimisation of victims in the criminal justice system and the need for a procedural justice approach. This article draws on qualitative exploratory research conducted during September, October and November 2019 in the Basque Country (Spain), based on information collected from fieldwork observation, photos, questionnaires and interviews with victims and legal professionals, as well as secondary data on a Basque Government program that offers more comprehensive professional companionship to women victims of intimate partner violence. It analyses some aspects that emerge from the implementation of this right in Spain. Finally, it concludes that, even if relevant, the specific legal inclusion of this right in the Directive should be complemented with a more responsive perspective of human rights.

Actualmente, la formación profesional no solo debe estar fundamentada en el conocimiento, sino en competencias laborales blandas exigidas por el mercado laboral. Este artículo analiza la pertinencia de las competencias laborales impartidas en la Universidad del Cauca, respecto a las exigidas en el mercado. Desde una investigación mixta, se realizaron 3 encuestas dirigidas a 1054 egresados, 77 representantes de empresas y 36 coordinadores de programas de pregrado de la institución, desde tres componentes: oferta laboral, espacios de desempeño profesional y necesidades de formación de competencias laborales. Los resultados evidencian que competencias como la autoconfianza, la toma de decisiones y el liderazgo se desarrollan mayoritariamente al egresar de la Universidad, en tanto que la creatividad, la empatía y los valores se adquieren durante la formación. Por su parte, las competencias más solicitadas por las empresas son: trabajo en equipo, comunicación asertiva e iniciativa. Para los programas académicos las competencias más relevantes son liderazgo, trabajo en equipo e iniciativa. Se concluye que la poca articulación entre la universidad y el sector productivo afecta la formación de competencias laborales blandas. Lo que, a su vez, dificulta la vinculación laboral y la capacidad de dar respuesta a las necesidades y expectativas sociales.

Chitosan is one of the most promising natural polymers, its fundamental scientific research is growing uninterruptedly and has been applied in a wide and varied range of domains, including biomedical and water treatment applications. Therefore, the search and implementation of non-synthetic and non-toxic cross-linkers for chitosan-based hydrogels is crucial for the development of more sustainable and biocompatible materials. Herein, an alternative approach has been developed to explore and exploit methanolic and aqueous extracts from five red seaweed species as covalent cross-linkers for chitosan-based hydrogels. The formation of a gel could be denoted for all extracts, whereas the protein-rich methanolic extractions afforded instantaneous gel-forming ability and greater stiffness and stability. The obtained hydrogels present large porous system with high degrees of swelling up to ca. 3000 %, and were successfully applied as dye adsorbent to remove industrial dye methyl orange withing a circular process with adsorption capacities of 728.46 ± 66.17 mg/g. Furthermore, cytotoxicity and cell-adhesion studies revealed the biocompatibility of the hydrogels and their potential applicability for tissue-engineering. This work demonstrated that methanolic and aqueous extracts from different red seaweed species could replace toxic cross-linkers. Furthermore, the unexpected ability of some extracts could pave the way for the development of new formulations for additive manufacturing, in particular for 3D printing approaches.

It is essential to revise how political discourses and the administering of politics, not precisely within the school context but outside as well, interplay with the constitution of teacher subjectivities particularly in countries where education is highly influenced by sociopolitical factors without conscious acknowledgment from teachers. Commonly, as teachers, we are somehow expected to carry out our experiences and acts of teaching in a decontextualized fashion, ignoring our voices, needs and the realities of the students. This article aims at elaborating on two sociopolitical factors: politics framing education and sociopolitical imaginaries of teachers, retelling how they have interplayed in a case of teacher subjectivity constitution. I emphasize the need to explore and assess the impact of the sociopolitical discourses which aim at devaluing teachers and public education, and the images that have been assigned to teachers and teaching with the intention to frame and control.

Introduction: Fournier's gangrene is a necrotizing infection of the scrotum and perineum. It has a global incidence of 1.6/100,000 men. Objective: To present a clinical case of Fournier´s gangrene in the course of secondary peritonitis due to a perforated prepyloric ulcer. Clinical Case: White male patient, 67 years old, with a history of being a smoker, who was admitted to the General Surgery Service for abdominal pain and increased volume of the genitals, abdominal pain more localized in the hypogastrium, accompanied by vomiting of contents. food and fever of 38 °C, with chills. Fournier's gangrene secondary to acute peritonitis was diagnosed, which was treated in the emergency services. Conclusions: Fournier's gangrene is one of the urological emergencies that can occur in the course of acute peritonitis due to perforation of a peptic ulcer.

Background The methods previously proposed in the literature to assess patients with rotator cuff related shoulder pain, based on special orthopedic tests to precisely identify the structure causing the shoulder symptoms have been recently challenged. This opens the possibility of a different way of physical examination. Objective To analyze the differences in shoulder range of motion, strength and thoracic kyphosis between rotator cuff related shoulder pain patients and an asymptomatic group. Method The protocol of the present research was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Review (PROSPERO) (registration number CRD42021258924). Database search of observational studies was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, WOS and CINHAL until July 2023, which assessed shoulder or neck neuro-musculoskeletal non-invasive physical examination compared to an asymptomatic group.
