Even if the alarm caused by coronavirus in Italy has actually arisen as a medical emergency, it soon became apparent that there would be other spill-over effects. The education system has been immediately affected by this pandemic, as schools and universities have been closed since the very first weeks. Schools have thus begun to build new ways of schooling in order to keep in contact with students and families and to go on with teaching activities. This article aims to investigate lockdown short- and medium-term effects on the school-family relationship, considered as a crucial key in managing this emergency, focusing on its opportunities and risks. This relationship was already rather problematic and complex (Llevot, Bordalba, 2019), as parents tent to have little trust in teachers, confirming this crisis of school-family alliance and the adult crisis of authority in the transmission of values, norms and models (Furedi, 2012; Massa, Colombo IJSE). But, because of Covid-19 emergency, this relationship is now becoming more and more essential and relevant, even if it is facing new challenges, especially for young pupils and parents, in particular mothers, who are making considerable efforts to keep in touch with the school and to support teachers’ didactical proposals during distant learning (Manzo, Minello, 2020). In many occasions, this relationship became stronger and more cooperative, but sometimes also quite lacking or totally absent. In the light of these considerations, here are the main research questions: 1) Has the pandemic led to new ways of experiencing this relationship? 2) Did students, parents and teachers live more frequently opportunities for closeness or distance? 3) What sort of relation processes occurred? 4) Were there meeting points about perceptions and experience of the “difference” in distance learning among parents and teachers?

Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common neoplasm in women with a high mortality rate mainly due to a marked propensity for peritoneal spread directly at diagnosis, as well as tumor recurrence after radical surgical treatment. Treatments for peritoneal metastases have to be designed from a patient’s perspective and focus on meaningful measures of benefit. Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), a strategy combining maximal cytoreductive surgery with regional chemotherapy, has been proposed to treat advanced ovarian cancer. Preliminary results to date have shown promising results, with improved survival outcomes and tumor regression. As knowledge about the disease process increases, practice guidelines will continue to evolve. In this review, we have reported a broad overview of advanced ovarian cancer management, and an update of the current evidence. The future perspectives of the Italian Society of Surgical Oncology (SICO) are discussed conclusively.

"Young Europeans, distance learning and trust in education institutions. A comparative analysis after Covid-19 showcases an international perspective, with a data analysis on five national samples (Italy, Spain, UK, France and Germany) of young respondents (aged 19-33). The data confirm that the use of distance learning has increased greatly in all the countries with an overall effect of reducing the gap between the various systems. The greatest effort in terms of activation has been made by the Italian education system, in which prior to Covid-19 young people had fewer opportunities to experience formal education of this kind than their counterparts abroad. The process of technological development and the forced 'reconversion' of teaching staff to a teaching method based on IC technologies, resulted in a sort of ‘de facto reform’ of educational methods and practices (and Italy seems to have profited from it more than any other EU country). Italy seems to be the country with the most positive evaluation of distance learning followed by Great Britain and Spain. Young Italians also declare the highest level of increase in trust in educational institutions, followed once again by Spain and Great Britain. Young Germans and French expressed considerably more critical assessments of distance learning. The youngsters’ positive orientation towards e-learning highlights their desire for more dynamic education systems, open to innovations also in a work perspective. The average high level of trust in schools and universities expressed by the respondents was probably the sign that these systems showed their reactivity and ‘care’ of the educational demand, at the very moment when access to the classrooms was banned. However, among the respondents, there is a greater polarization - especially in Italy -between confident and distrustful of institutions; between those who have experienced at first hand the ‘fibrillations’ of the system, feeling intensely its limits and iniquities

Peritoneal metastases (PM) from colorectal cancer (CRC) still represent a huge health-care problem. Recent population-based studies report an overall 3.5–4.2% incidence of CRC-PM after potentially curative primary surgery [1,2]. These rates can reach up to about 25% in locally advanced CRC penetrating visceral peritoneum (pT4a), or directly infiltrating surrounding organs (pT4b) [[1], [2], [3]]. Accordingly, the peritoneum is one of the most common site of metastatic spread for CRC, following the liver and lung, even though incidences may be likely underestimated because PM are more difficult to detect than liver or lung metastases. A strategy involving local-regionally delivered chemotherapy to prevent the outgrowth of occult peritoneal seeding into macroscopic metastases is supported by a strong rationale: first, cytoreductve surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotheray (HIPEC) improve CRC-PM survival, but most patients are not suitable for this demanding treatment due to extensive peritoneal involvement, systemic metastases, and/or poor clinical conditions. Second, CRS/HIPEC is maximally effective and safe when small-volume disease is treated. Third, in the palliative setting, modern systemic chemotherapy (s-CT) and targeted agents appear to be less effective for peritoneal metastatic CRC than non-peritoneal metastatic CRC. Finally, the absence of symptoms, as well as current limitations of imaging, hamper early diagnosis and treatment [3]. On these bases, the use of HIPEC for the prevention or early treatment of CRC-PM has been tested at different time-points, either simultaneously with primary surgery [[3], [4], [5]], at the time of second-look surgery after adjuvant s-CT [6], or as a staged procedure at 5–8 weeks postoperatively [7]. Ovarian cancer (OC) remains relatively rare, although it is among the top 4 causes of cancer death for women younger than 50. The aggressive nature of the disease and its often late diagnosis with peritoneal involvement have an impact on prognosis. The current scientific literature presents ambiguous or uncertain indications for management of peritoneal carcinosis (PC) from OC, both owing to the lack of sufficient scientific data and their heterogeneity or lack of consistency. Therefore, the Italian Society of Surgical Oncology (SICO), the Italian Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Italian Association of Hospital Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the Italian Association of Medical Oncology conducted a multidisciplinary consensus conference (CC) on management of advanced OC presenting with PC during the SICO annual meeting in Naples Italy, on September 10-11, 2015. An expert committee developed questions on diagnosis and staging work-up, indications, and procedural aspects for peritonectomy, systemic chemotherapy, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for PC from OC. These questions were provided to 6 invited speakers who answered with an evidence-based report. Each report was submitted to a jury panel, representative of Italian experts in the fields of surgical oncology, gynecology, and medical oncology. The jury panel revised the reports before and after the open discussion during the CC. This article is the final document containing the clinical evidence reports and statements, revised and approved by all the authors before submission.
