A descoberta dos manuscritos da Clavis Prophetarum (A Chave dos Profetas), documento que era considerado desaparecido há pelo menos trezentos anos e ressurgiu em 2022, reacendeu o interesse na obra do “jesuíta do rei” e em seus escritos considerados fundamentais para “para a história luso-brasileira” 1. No entanto, a realidade é que a obra de Antônio Vieira (1608-1697) tem sido fonte de controvérsia teológica e literária desde que vieram a lume. Por exemplo: uma das teses centrais da Clavis, -tese a respeito da qual nem o próprio Vieira parece ter alimentado convicção ao longo da vida- é a de que estava em gestação o tempo da consumação milenar do “reino de Cristo”. O livro faz parte do que a historiografia convencionou chamar de “Trilogia do Quinto Império”: somam-se ao “Chave dos Profetas”, a carta “Esperanças de Portugal” (“Carta ao Bispo do Japão”), escrita em 1659, e a “História do Futuro”. Em diversos momentos da trilogia, Vieira afirma que esse Quinto Império- aquele que consumará o futuro esperado e sucederá o dos egípcios, assírios, persas e romanos- é o próprio reino de Portugal. O artigo pretende analisar a carta do Padre Vieira, Esperanças de Portugal, em seus aspectos literário e teológico.

In this paper, we establish $$L^p$$ L p boundedness properties for maximal operators, Littlewood–Paley functions and variation operators involving Poisson semigroups and resolvent operators associated with nonsymmetric Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operators. We consider the Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operators defined by the identity as the covariance matrix and having a drift given by the matrix $$-\lambda (I+R)$$ - λ ( I + R ) , being $$\lambda >0$$ λ > 0 and R a skew-adjoint matrix. The semigroups associated with these Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operators are the basic building blocks of all the normal Ornstein–Uhlenbeck semigroups.

In this paper we prove $$L^p$$ estimates for Stein’s square functions associated with Fourier–Bessel expansions. Furthermore, we prove transference results for square functions from Fourier–Bessel series to Hankel transforms. Actually, these are transference results for vector-valued multipliers from discrete to continuous in the Bessel setting. As a consequence, we deduce the sharpness of the range of p for the $$L^p$$ -boundedness of Fourier–Bessel Stein’s square functions from the corresponding property for Hankel–Stein square functions. Finally, we deduce $$L^p$$ estimates for Fourier–Bessel multipliers from that ones we have got for our Stein square functions.

In this paper we obtain quantitative weighted $$L^p$$ L p -inequalities for some operators involving Bessel convolutions. We consider maximal operators, Littlewood-Paley functions and variational operators. We obtain $$L^p(w)$$ L p ( w ) -operator norms in terms of the $$A_p$$ A p -characteristic of the weight w. In order to do this we show that the operators under consideration are dominated by a suitable family of sparse operators in the space of homogeneous type $$((0,\infty ),|\cdot |,x^{2\lambda }dx)$$ ( ( 0 , ∞ ) , | · | , x 2 λ d x ) .

We prove variation and oscillation \begin{document}$ L^p $\end{document}-inequalities associated with fractional derivatives of certain semigroups of operators and with the family of truncations of Riesz transforms in the inverse Gaussian setting. We also study these variational \begin{document}$ L^p $\end{document}-inequalities in a Banach-valued context by considering Banach spaces with the UMD-property and whose martingale cotype is fewer than the variational exponent. We establish \begin{document}$ L^p $\end{document}-boundedness properties for weighted difference involving the semigroups under consideration.

In this paper we introduce variable exponent local Hardy spaces $hLp$ associated with a non-negative self-adjoint operator $L$. We assume that, for every $t>0$, the operator $e^{-tL}$ has an integral representation whose kernel satisfies a Gaussian upper bound. We define $hLp$ by using an area square integral involving the semigroup ${e^{-tL}}_{t>0}$. A molecular characterization of $hLp$ is established. As an application of the molecular characterization we prove that $hLp$ coincides with the (global) Hardy space $HLp$ provided that $0$ does not belong to the spectrum of $L$. This research aims at providing the Military Aviation School “ESMA-Cosme Renella Barbatto”, located in Salinas in the province of Santa Elena, Ecuador, with an online teaching tool that helps to enhance the methodology applied in the subject of Aviation English (AE). The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is the official organization in charge of Aviation English training programs, states that the structures taught in this English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses are based mostly on the communicative intention rather than grammatical rules. The ICAO also recognizes, in the document 9835, the use of computers as supporting tools during the learning process and suggests Blended Learning as an approach that optimizes the organization of face-to-face sessions when teaching Aviation English. To this end, a mixed-method research was selected to gather and process data that supports the need of implementing an online platform, the research tools were an interview to the teacher, who is also an Aviation Instructor from the ESMA Flight Training Department, and a survey to the 39 pilot cadets who will be part of the course. The results revealed a positive attitude towards the platform, it was considered by the participants to be a pedagogical “link” between technology and teaching methodology.

Em projetos de engenharia mecânica um dos maiores determinantes para a vida útil da estrutura é a fadiga mecânica. Esse é o caso dos implantes e próteses ortopédicas, muitos são feitos, ou incorporam, materiais poliméricos termoplásticos. Em diversos materiais semicristalinos, a fadiga mecânica é dominada pelo processo de nucleação, em consequência do acúmulo de deformações inelásticas localizadas e formação de crazes. Para simular o fenômeno local de nucleação nos polímeros, um modelo multiescala disponível na literatura foi escolhido, reproduzido e suas características analisadas e comparadas com evidências experimentais. Nesse modelo é considerado um Elemento de Volume Representativo (EVR) composto por uma matriz com uma pequena fração volumétrica de inclusões dúcteis acumuladoras de dano. A homogeneização foi formulada conforme o método Mean-Field Homogeneization (MFH), com o conceito de Linear Comparison Composites (LCC) e solução semi-analítica de MoriTanaka. Foram realizadas simulações de validação para o modelo constitutivo homogêneo das fases. O comportamento mecânico é limitado a pequenas deformações e desconsidera a geração de calor. As curvas preditivas de fadiga para o High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) foram reproduzidas e a contribuição desse trabalho foca na análise de sensibilidade aos efeitos da solicitação e aos parâmetros da inclusão Abstract: In mechanical engineering projects, mechanical fatigue is one of the most frequent sources of failure of devices submitted to cyclic loads. This is the case of orthopedic implants and protheses, many of which are made of, or incorporate, polymeric materials. In large semi-crystalline polymers, mechanical fatigue is dominated by the nucleation process as a consequence of localized inelastic strain accumulation and craze formation. To simulate the local nucleation phenomenon in polymers, a multiscale model available in the literature was chosen, reproduced and his features analyzed and compared with experimental evidences. In this model it is considered an Representative Volume Element (RVE) composed by a matrix with a small volume fraction of ductile damaging inclusions. A homogenization scheme is formulated according to the Mean Field Homogenization (MFH) approach, with Linear Comparison Composite concept and the Mori-Tanaka solution. Validation simulations were carried out for the constitutive homogeneous model of phases. The mechanical behavior is limited to small deformations and disregards heat generation. The predictive fatigue life curves for High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) were reproduced and the contribution of this work focuses on the sensitivity analysis and applicability of the model to load effects and inclusion material parameters.

In this paper we develop the theory of variable exponent Hardy spaces associated with discrete Laplacians on infinite graphs. Our Hardy spaces are defined by square integrals, atomic and molecular decompositions. Also we study boundedness properties of Littlewood-Paley functions, Riesz transforms, and spectral multipliers for discrete Laplacians on variable exponent Hardy spaces.

We establish that the spectral multiplier $\frak{M}(G_{\alpha})$ associated to the differential operator $$ G_{\alpha}=- \Delta_x +\sum_{j=1}^m{{\alpha_j^2-1/4}\over{x_j^2}}-|x|^2 \Delta_y \; \text{on} (0,\infty)^m \times \R^n,$$ which we denominate Bessel-Grushin operator, is of weak type $(1,1)$ provided that $\frak{M}$ is in a suitable local Sobolev space. In order to do this we prove a suitable weighted Plancherel estimate. By \(BMO_{\text {o}}(\mathbb {R})\) we denote the space consisting of all those odd and bounded mean oscillation functions on \(\mathbb {R}\). In this paper we characterize the functions in \(BMO_{\text {o}}(\mathbb {R})\) with bounded support as those ones that can be written as a sum of a bounded function on \((0,\infty )\) plus the balayage of a Carleson measure on \((0,\infty )\times (0,\infty )\) with respect to the Poisson semigroup associated with the Bessel operator $$\begin{aligned} B_\lambda :=-x^{-\lambda }\frac{d}{dx}x^{2\lambda }\frac{d}{dx}x^{-\lambda },\quad \lambda >0. \end{aligned}$$ This result can be seen as an extension to Bessel setting of a classical result due to Carleson.

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado da Bahia - FAPESB Introdução: A mielopatia associada ao HTLV-1 ou paraparesia espástica tropical (HAM/TSP) é uma doença desmielinizante crônica e progressiva e que afeta predominantemente a medula espinal. O equilíbrio e a locomoção nos indivíduos acometidos ficam comprometidos e exige alternativas terapêuticas para a reabilitação. Objetivo: Verificar o efeito da Wii Terapia como recurso terapêutico adicional no tratamento de pacientes com HAM/TSP, verificando impactos no equilíbrio, dor e qualidade de vida. Metodologia: Ensaio clínico randomizado duplo cego realizado com 9 indivíduos com diagnóstico confirmado pelos critérios da OMS, divididos em dois grupos – G1 que realizou exercícios terapêuticos associado ao uso de jogos do Nintendo Wii e G2 que realizou somente exercícios terapêuticos. Todos os participantes foram submetidos a uma avaliação da dor pela escala visual analógica (EVA) e do equilíbrio pela escala de Berg, responderam a um questionário sobre qualidade de vida (SF-36), antes e depois das 10 sessões. Os dados foram analisados através dos testes T pareado (intra grupo) e não pareado (inter grupo), com alfa de 5% , poder de 80% e IC 95%. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior In the south of the Espírito Santo State, Brazil, the wastewater generated in the coffee grain processing (CGPW) is disposed by the farmers in dumping holes in the soil. This practice has the advantages of the requirement of small areas, the low costs, and the feasibility of construction, operation and management. However, it has to be appropriately executed in order to avoid the contamination of the underground water and the occurrence of changes in the soil chemical and physical characteristics. It was made the characterization of the disposed CGPW and determined the chemical and physical characteristics in soil samples collected near the dumping holes used for CGPW disposal in counties from the Espírito Santo State. The samples were collected at distances up to 5 in the lateral of the hole, at different depths and in the bottom of the dumping hole. The disposed CGPW presented salinity, acid pH, high concentration of total solids and high organic content, with the element N being the most concentrated. The exchangeable K increased in almost all soil samples collected in the lateral positions. This caused a higher electrical conductivity in the saturation extract, a higher percentage of dispersed clay in the soil, mainly in the samples closer to the dumping hole, a decrease in the potential acidity, and changes in the pH of some samples. The soil exchangeable Ca and Mg also increased in the samples closer to the dumping holes with increase of the sum of bases and index of base saturation. The available P decreased in the samples more distant from to the dumping holes. There was no detection of Na in the samples and no variation of exchangeable Al concentration, but the Al saturation index decreased closer to the dumping hole. The cation exchangeable capacity (CEC), at pH 7, decreased in most of the samples whereas the effective CEC increased in the samples closer to the dumping holes. The organic matter content and the remaining P increased in some samples located at 50 cm from the dumping holes. In the soil samples collected at the bottom of the holes, the pH, the Mg concentration, the sum of bases and índex of base saturation decreased whereas the electrical conductivity, clay disperse in water, organic matter content, moisture equivalent, potential acidity, Al saturation and CEC, at pH 7, increased. There was increase also in the available P, remaining P, and exchangeable Ca and Al. The exchangeable K and the effective CEC did not show variation in the samples collected in different depths at the bottom of the hole. No sul do Estado do Espírito Santo, a técnica de disposição da água residuária do descascamento/despolpa dos frutos do cafeeiro (ARC) em valas de infiltração/percolação é muito utilizada por produtores, por necessitar de pequenas áreas para se efetuar a disposição da ARC, ser de baixo custo e fácil implantação, operação e manutenção. No entanto, se esta técnica for realizada de forma inadequada, poderá causar contaminação do lençol subterrâneo e alterações nas características químicas e físicas do solo. Em razão disso, foi realizada a caracterização da ARC disposta em valas, sendo avaliadas também as características químicas e físicas do solo de amostras coletadas na área de influência de valas utilizadas para disposição da ARC, em municípios do sul do Estado do Espírito Santo. As amostras de solo foram coletadas em até 5 m de distância lateral das valas, em diferentes profundidades e no fundo das mesmas. Observou- se que a ARC disposta nas valas apresentou salinidade, pH ácido, grande concentração de sólidos totais e elevada carga orgânica, sendo o N o elemento químico em maior concentração. O K trocável aumentou em praticamente todas as amostras de solo coletadas nas posições laterais às valas, proporcionando aumento da condutividade elétrica do extrato de saturação (CE) e da argila dispersa em água do solo (ADA), notadamente nas amostras coletadas mais proximamente às valas. Além disso, proporcionou diminuição na acidez potencial, em todas as amostras de solo analisadas e, ainda, influenciou os valores do pH, em algumas amostras. As concentrações de Ca e Mg trocáveis também aumentaram em amostras mais próximas às valas, devido à presença destes elementos químicos na ARC, o que proporcionou, na maioria das amostras de solo analisadas, aumento no valor da soma de bases (SB) e na saturação por bases (V). Em amostras de solo coletadas a maiores distâncias das valas, houve diminuição nas concentrações de P disponível. Não foi detectada a presença de Na e as concentrações de Al trocável não foram alteradas nas amostras, independente da posição de coleta, entretanto a saturação por Al diminuiu em amostras coletadas mais proximamente às valas. A capacidade de troca catiônica potencial (CTC a pH 7) diminuiu na grande maioria das amostras de solo e a CTC efetiva aumentou em amostras coletadas mais proximamente das valas. O conteúdo de matéria orgânica (MO) e a concentração de P-remanescente aumentaram em algumas amostras localizadas a 50 cm das valas. Nas amostras coletadas no perfil de solo a partir do fundo das valas, o pH, a concentração de Mg, a SB e V diminuíram, enquanto a CE, a ADA, o equivalente de umidade (EU), a acidez potencial, a saturação por Al, a CTC a pH 7, o conteúdo de matéria orgânica e as concentrações de P disponível, P- remanescente, Ca e Al trocáveis aumentaram. A concentração de K trocável e a CTC efetiva permaneceram praticamente constantes ao longo do perfil de solo amostrado a partir do fundo da vala.

Statins are widely recognized as hypolipemic drugs, but some studies have observed anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, known as pleiotropic. The aims of this work was to study possible anti-inflammatory effects of simvastatin in abdominal sepsis. Serum pro-inflammatory cytokines and leukocytes count were determined in an experimental model of abdominal sepsis, using cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) in rats.Twenty eight Wistar rats weighing 285+/-12 g were randomly divided in: CLP/Sinvastatin rats (n=7), treated with 10 mg/Kg of oral simvastatin 18 and 2 hs before CLP; CLP/Saline group rats (n=7), treated with oral saline; group Sham/Simvastatin (n=7), treated with simvastatin, and group Sham/Saline (n=7), treated with saline. Serum TNF-alpha, IL-1beta and IL-6 by ELISA and total leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and eosinophils were determined 24 hs after CLP. ANOVA and Tukey test were used considering significant p0.05.It was demonstrated that serum TNF-alpha, IL-1beta and IL-6 were respectively 364.8+/-42 pg/mL; 46.3+/-18 pg/mL and 28.4+/-13 pg/mL in CLP/Sinvastatin rats, significantly lower (p0.05) than in group CLP/Saline (778.5+/-86 pg/ml; 176.9+/-46 pg/ml; 133.6+/-21 pg/ml, respectively). The same results were observed in total leukocytes and neutrophils counts.These results clearly demonstrate that simvastatin is an effective agent that reduces cytokines levels and leukocyte count in sepsis, independently of its well-known lipid-lowering effects. Thus, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors like simvastatin have important anti-inflammatory effects in abdominal sepsis in rats.
