Objectives: To share our experience in surgical management of cervical cancer, combined adiotherapy (RT) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) and to evaluate the 2-year overall and desease free survival, the incidance and sites of relapses., Material: One hundred eight cervical cancer patients, staged IB-IVB according to FIGO had been operated on by the author between the period XI. 2003-VI. 2006. Eighty one patients were evaluable for 2-year survival (follow-up ranging from 6 to 44 months, average - 25 months)., Methods: Surgical management includes radical hysterectomy class II-IV, selective an pelvic and paraaortic lymph node dissection. Radiotherapy is preoperative 30-52 Gy adjuvant postoperative 52 Gy TGT Sixteen patients with positive lymph node metastases (LNM) were submitted to prophylactic field irradiation up to 46 Gy Cisplatin-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy had been administered 3 courses at intervals of 21 days before surgery., Results: Two-year overall survival is 95,1%, 2-year desease free survival (DFS)--90,1%, 2-year local control rate - 100%. The incidance rate of distant metastases is 9,9% (lungs--2,5%, liver--3,7%, bones--2,5%, vulva--1,2%). LNM are detected in 19,5% (IB1--14,5%, IB2--35,7%, IIA--11,1% stages), parametrial invasion--2,8% and metastases in ovaries--0,9%. Two-year DFS of patients with LNM is 84% and without LNM is 96,8%., Conclusion: Surgical management, combined with RT of above mentioned 108 patients leads to 100% 2-year local control rate. Two-year DFS of patients with LNM is 84%. NCD should to be administered concurrently or consecutively with RT in patients at high risk of distant relapses (11B, IB2 stages).

Some differences were established between mopyridone-sensitive (MCU-s) wild strain and mopyridone-resistant (MCU-r) mutant progenies of influenza virus A/Hong Kong/1/68 (H3N2). The virions of MCU-r mutant had a lower buoyant density in linear sucrose gradient as compared to those of MCU-s strain, and an increased ability of aggregation as well. HA content (HAU/micrograms protein) in the purified virions of MCU-r mutant was twice lower as compared to MCU-s strain. The surface glycoproteins of MCU-r mutant were solubilized by octylglucoside faster than those of MCU-s strain. No differences were found between MCU-r strain and MCU-s mutant-induced red blood cell lysis at acid pH, and mopyridone did not influence this phenomenon. MCU-r mutant showed a lower thermostability as compared with MCU-s strain, but similar UV-inactivation curves for both viruses were observed. The quantity of the purified HA-NA complex and M1 protein incorporated into multilamellar liposomes was greater in the case of MCU-s mutant. Electron microscopy examination of liposomes which contained M1 protein from MCU-r mutant manifested pleomorphism with unusual gigantic forms tending to aggregate, whereas MCU-s M1 protein-containing liposomes were uniform and did not form aggregates. No morphological differences were found between the two viruses in HA-NA complex containing liposomes. These data indicate changes in the protein-lipid interactions in MCU-r mutant virions. Amino acid analysis of M1 protein revealed significantly lower content of asparagine, glutamine and serine, and a higher one oof hisitidine in MCU-r mutant as compared to MCU-s wild strain.

Using 14 monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) in solid-phase ELISA it was found that influenza virus A/Hong Kong/1/68 (H3N2) mutants resistant to the antiviral compound mopyridone as compared to the mopyridone-sensitive mutant manifested significant changes in the antigenic structure (sites 1A, 2 and 3) of M1 protein. No differences in M1 were found between rimantadine-resistant and rimantadine-sensitive mutants of influenza virus A(H3N2).

The synergistic effect shown by the combination of a natural product, polyphenolic complex (PC) isolated from Geranium sanguineum L., and rimantadine (R) in vitro and in ovo [7], encouraged us to continue these studies by in vivo testing. A marked protective effect in experimental influenza virus A (H3N2) infection in mice was found when PC was applied nasally (i.n.) (1.0 mg/kg) only once 6 h before infection in combination with R applied orally in concentration 10.5 and 2.5 mg/kg 2h before and 2.24 and 48 h after viral inoculation (PI = 72.55%, 55% and 57.8% respectively).

Studied were certain methods for programming the estrus and fixing the optimal term for the insemination of sheep. A record was kept of the changes taking place in the genital apparatus in various periods of time following the use of hormonal preparations during the anestral period. The fertility of sheep was also taken into consideration both after the first treatment with serum gonadotropin and after the two-fold programmed insemination at a 16-day interval with regard to the total fertility. It was shown that the optimal time for programmed insemination of sheep was between the 36th and the 56th hour after the three-fold injection with Prolosan at 12-hour intervals so far as periods other than the breeding season were concerned. Fertility at two-fold injection rated at 121 per cent, and conception--at 78.2 per cent.
