J. Paul Leonard Library at San Francisco State University launched a web-scale discovery service, branded as OneSearch in 2013. Before that, Leonard library had been using Google Scholar since 2006. This study gathered usage data on OneSearch and Google Scholar from the library OpenURL link resolver, SFX, and the interlibrary loan server, ILLiad, from 2011 to 2017. The findings demonstrated that OneSearch had become an essential library search tool, especially among students. Data revealed fewer patrons used Google Scholar after the implementation of OneSearch. However, Google Scholar remained an important research tool that complemented OneSearch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The studies on users and their behaviors regarding the search for information have demonstrated how much the human-social aspect has been valued by the sciences, especially in Information Science. Therefore, preliminary research is presented, whose objective is to discuss some epistemological aspects of Information Science, as well as the studies of informational behavior, based on the theoretical considerations presented by Borko, Le Coadic and Saracevic. Through a descriptive and bibliographical research of deductive approach, it was confirmed that Information Science studies the information object and the procedures for collection, storage and use of this resource, characterizing itself as an interdisciplinary science, influenced by information and communication technologies, whose origins of this scientific field refer to the reflections of the scientific and technological development of the twentieth century. In addition, it was concluded that the studies of the needs and the use of information, with a focus on the user, enables the importance of the human being, as the main element of the informational process, and studies are being improved, in which behavioral issues are investigated Use of resources, products, services and information systems. This work, carried out in 2009 with the participation as co-investigators, of the pharmacy seed group of the National Open and Distance University FARMAUNAD, aimed to identify Problems Related to the Use of Anti-flu and NSAID Medications (PRUM), in Pharmaceutical Establishments of large stores in the city of Bogotá, DC (entities belonging to compensation funds and / or supermarkets that have a pharmaceutical establishment inside), based on the fulfillment of the objectives of this work, Decree 780 of 2016. It was an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study on drug use habits with prospective data collection through the application of a validated survey. The instrument was applied in 146 Establishments to 741 users. The results showed 187 of them, who attended without a FM prescription (25%), while 554 had FM. In general, the 3 problems related to the use of drugs (PRM), anti-flu (R05) and analgesic NSAIDs (M01A), related to prescription, dispensing, and use were identified. The conclusions are consistent with what has been reported in other works, finding that the most influential factor in the acquisition of drugs is self-medication promoted by advertising in the mass media, followed by suggestions in the Pharmaceutical establishment. Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen were the most widely purchased NSAIDs, while the presentations of Noxpirin® and Dolex flu® were the two most common Antiflu drugs consumed by users. Abstract: This paper presents results taken from 2008 to 2010 of an ongoing microform use study. The number of titles used is evenly distributed over time with microfilm being the most used format and newspapers accounting for half of all usage. When publications are available electronically, users may still use the microform version. This study illustrates how microform and electronic collections are complementary—electronic materials provide better access but microform is better for preservation. Users prefer electronic materials but will also use microform when there is no online version available or when the online version is not an exact copy of the original. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In the library literature, a great deal of interest in patron-driven collection development has recently been expressed, especially in those programs that link acquisitions with interlibrary loan. However, the implementation of such programs has been limited, at least in part because of concerns over the potential for wasteful spending. The authors will attempt to address this common concern by assessing whether monies spent via a patron-driven acquisitions program were more or less effective than monies spent via traditional modes of acquisition. COLLECTION development in libraries , *INTERLIBRARY loans , *LIBRARY users - Abstract
There has been a flurry of interest in programs for collection development through patron-initiated requests. However, some librarians have been concerned that such methods run the risk of producing idiosyncratic collections with poor usage and poor use value. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries have operated such a program through the Interlibrary Loan Department over a five-year period. The following study assesses the relative performance of the program's interlibrary loan-acquired monographs in terms of prices paid per rates of annual circulation, relative use at the topical level, and annual rates of circulation. This exploratory study focuses on identifying the usage pattern of e-books especially on how, when, where and why undergraduates at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), University of Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur use or do not use the e-books service provided by the University of Malaya library. A total of 206 (82%) useable questionnaires form the basis of analysis. The results indicate even though the students are heavy users of the Internet, rate themselves as skilled in Internet use and have positive attitude towards the e-book service, the level of e-book use is still low (39%). The students become aware of the e-book service mainly while visiting the University of Malaya Library Website, or are referred to it by their lecturers, friends or the librarians. About 70% rate positively on the e-book service. Those who are users of e-books find e-books easy to use and their usages are mainly for writing assignment or project work Most respondents prefer to use e-versions of textbooks and reference sources. Generally, both users and non-users of e-books prefer to use the printed version of textbooks especially if the text is continuously used. There are significant difference between the frequency of e-book use and gender; between past usage of e-book and preference for electronic textbooks and reference books. The possible factors which may be related to e-book use are categorized into 4 groups and presented in a model, which comprises the ICT competencies of the students, their cognitive makeup, the degree of user access to the e-books and the functional or use factors. Research on use of digital libraries identify variations in information seeking behavior of users of different areas of knowledge. However, most of the studies do not use a domain approach to explain the factors that would justify these behavior differences. The present research investigated the use of Portal Capes , the largest Digital Library of Scientific Journals in Brazil, by scholars in Humanities, Linguistics, Arts and Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. A qualitative study was undertaken with interviews and the critical incident technique to understand the reasons for different informational behaviors by researchers in the three areas. Five directors and 18 researchers of Institutes of the different areas were interviewed and among, other factors, differences in the organization of the literature of each area were considered. The characteristics of the domain of knowledge, such as degree of scatter, size of domain, kind of information resource, type of knowledge in the resources and domain specific relevance criteria were investigated. Other factors verified were: aspects of search behavior, reasons for use and non-use of the Portal, barriers encountered and rewards perceived. The analysis shows differences in behavior and in the factors that affect the use of Portal Capes among researchers from different departments of the same Institute/area or in the same department. The results indicate that for the great knowledge areas generic hypotheses should not be formulated, and that the factors of use and non-use are specific to each field

This work aims to present some procedures that characterize the evaluation of periodicals process. The search was developed in the library of EMBRAPA-CTAA. The method used was an adaptation of the study elaborated by Santos e Melo (1997) “Contribution to the establishment of criteria for the policy of buying foreigner periodicals at the Rio de Janeiro Federal University”. In this work, quantitative criteria had been considered (volume of use and availability) and qualitative (get the opinion of the user). The sample comprises 116 titles of current foreigner periodic. The degree of importance (GI) of this titles was obtained using the sum of availability (DP) and user’s opinion that emonstrated that more than 67% of the collection was considered important to this library. Indeed, it was verified that although not provided with a selection policy based on appropriated methodologies, the library of the CTAA kept its collection in accordance with the necessities of its users.

Growth and shape measurements made from the age of 6 to 21 years in a french network of comparative trials on wild cherry tree clones showed that planting material originating from one area and used in the same area does necessarily yield better results than planting material brought in from a different region. Superior genetics and financial returns are better achieved by choosing improved material rather than material of local origin.

- Abstract
Introduction: Administration of parenteral iron is a mainstay of iron deficiency treatment. Evaluation and control of this element is an issue for healthcare facilities. Study of parenteral iron use is thus to be evaluated in its impact in terms of hospital economics., Materials and Methods: Parenteral iron administrations that took place on 2014 in our healthcare facility were retrospectively identified by pharmacists. Following data were extracted from Pharma™ and Crossway™ softwares: indication, diagnostic coding and total dose of iron received. They were then compared to the summary of product characteristics., Results: Of 198 analyzed prescriptions, iron deficiency was known or suspected for 97% of patients. However, the total dose of iron administered was not in compliance for three quarters of prescriptions. Sixty-eight percent of patients appear under-dosed. Administration's traceability was found for two-thirds. Eighty-five hospital discharges did not have the right coding and 34 stays were charged like an external act instead sessions. Financial loss for the hospital is estimated at 49,300 euros., Discussion and Conclusion: As part of improving practice, close pharmaceutical monitoring of parenteral iron prescribed dosing regimen is essential. Effective communication with the medical information department and regular awareness raising of prescribers should also allow to give more value to this act. Hospital economics is a real tool to aid decision-making., (Copyright © 2015 Académie Nationale de Pharmacie. Published by Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.)
