A detailed investigation on the relative isotopic distributions has been carried out for the first time in case of even-even correlated fission fragments for the $^{235}$U($n_{th}$,$f$) fission reaction. High-statistics data were obtained in a prompt $\gamma$ ray spectroscopy measurement during the EXILL campaign at ILL, Grenoble, France. The extensive off-line analysis of the coincidence data have been carried out using four different coincidence methods. Combining the results from 2-dimensional $\gamma-\gamma$ and 3-dimensional $\gamma-\gamma-\gamma$ coincidence analysis, a comprehensive picture of the relative isotopic yield distributions of the even-even neutron-rich fission fragments has emerged. The experimentally observed results have been substantiated by the theoretical calculations based on a novel approach of isospin conservation, and a reasonable agreement has been obtained. The calculations following the semi-empirical GEF model have also been carried out. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Medium-spin excited states of the neutron-rich nucleus $^{87}$Br were observed and studied for the first time. They were populated in fission of $^{235}$U induced by the cold-neutron beam of the PF1B facility of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. The measurement of $\gamma$ radiation following fission has been performed using the EXILL array of Ge detectors. The observed level scheme was compared with results of large valence space shell model calculations. The medium-spin level scheme consists of three band-like structures, which can be understood as bands built on the ${\pi}f_{5/2}$, ${\pi}(p_{3/2}+f_{5/2})$ and ${\pi}g_{9/2}$ configurations. The behavior of the observed ${\pi}g_{9/2}$ band at high spins shows a considerable deviation from the shell model predictions. This deviation in this band is probably the result of an increased collectivity, which can be understood assuming that the ${\pi}g_{9/2}$ high-$\it j$ proton polarizes the core.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
We present recent results on the structure of the one-valence-particle $^{41}$Ca and $^{49}$Ca, and one-valence-hole $^{47}$Ca, nuclei. The isotopes of interest were populated via the cold-neutron capture reactions $^{40}$Ca(n,$\gamma$), $^{48}$Ca(n,$\gamma$) and $^{46}$Ca(n,$\gamma$), respectively. The experiments were performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin, within the EXILL campaign, which employed a large array of HPGe detectors. The $\gamma$ decay and level schemes of these nuclei were investigated by $\gamma$-ray coincidence relationships, leading to the identification of 41, 10, and 6 new transitions in $^{41}$Ca, $^{47}$Ca, and $^{49}$Ca, respectively. Branching ratios and intensities were extracted for the $\gamma$ decay from each state, and $\gamma$-ray angular correlations were performed to establish a number of transition multipolarities and mixing ratios, thus helping in the spin assignment of the states. The experimental findings are discussed along with microscopic, self-consistent beyond-mean-field calculations performed with the Hybrid Configuration Mixing model, based on a Skyrme SkX Hamiltonian. The latter suggests that a fraction of the low-spin states of the $^{41}$Ca, $^{49}$Ca, and $^{47}$Ca nuclei is characterized by the coexistence of either 2p-1h and 1p-2h excitations, or couplings between single-particle/hole degrees of freedom and collective vibrations (phonons) of the doubly-magic "core".

6. Nationwide Awareness Campaign and Call for Dental Screening for Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia in Germany

Objectives. Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is a rare disorder encompassing facial and oral telangiectasias and visceral vascular malformations (VMs). Pulmonary VMs can lead to paradoxical embolism of thrombi or bacteria, e.g., due to dental procedures. Early detection can reduce morbidity and mortality and is recommended. However, diagnosis is often delayed for decades. Our study is assessing the feasibility and effect of a nationwide awareness campaign for early diagnosis of HHT addressing all dentists in Germany. Methods. In 2018, one article and two reminders about HHT were published in a nationwide awareness campaign. As a proxy for the effectiveness of the campaign, researchers measured the number of first-time inquiries from patients and physicians about HHT documented by the German HHT self-help group from September 2016 until September 2019. Results. A total of 411 first contacts with the German self-help group were documented, mainly via Internet platforms (Internet forum (n = 130) and Facebook® (n = 189)). For 9% of those patients (n = 36/411), the physician or dentist (physician: (n = 31/36, 86%; dentist: n = 5/36, 14%) informed patients about the disease HHT and the self-help group. Before publishing the first article about HHT, no dentist referred patients to the German self-help group; afterwards, 5 patients received information about HHT from their dentist and contacted the patient organization for the first time. After each publication in June, September, and December 2018, the number of new contacts increased. Contacts via phone and e-mail had the highest relative increase. Conclusions. The repeated call for dental screening for HHT in Germany led to increased awareness of this rare disease; more patients with possible HHT received information about the condition. The authors conclude that targeted campaigns may contribute to a shorter diagnostic latency resulting in increased quality of life and life expectancy in HHT. This trial is registered with CT03549949.

The gamma-ray decay of excited states of the one-valence-proton nucleus 133Sb has been studied using cold-neutron induced fission of 235U and 241Pu targets, during the EXILL campaign at the ILL reactor in Grenoble. By using a highly efficient HPGe array, coincidences between gamma-rays prompt with the fission event and those delayed up to several tens of microseconds were investigated, allowing to observe, for the first time, high-spin excited states above the 16.6 micros isomer. Lifetimes analysis, performed by fast-timing techniques with LaBr3(Ce) scintillators, reveals a difference of almost two orders of magnitude in B(M1) strength for transitions between positive-parity medium-spin yrast states. The data are interpreted by a newly developed microscopic model which takes into account couplings between core excitations (both collective and non-collective) of the doubly magic nucleus 132Sn and the valence proton, using the Skyrme effective interaction in a consistent way. The results point to a fast change in the nature of particle-core excitations with increasing spin.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) type 2 is an autosomal dominant disease in which one allele of the ACVRL1 gene is mutated. Patients exhibit disturbances in TGF-beta/BMP-dependent angiogenesis and, clinically, often present with severe nosebleeds as well as a reduced quality of life. The aim of our study was to use CRISPR/Cas9 to knockout ACVRL1 in normal induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and evaluate the effects on TGF-beta- and BMP-related gene expression as well as angiogenesis. The CRISPR/Cas9 knockout of the ACVRL1 gene was carried out in previously characterized wild-type (ACVRL1wt/wt) iPSCs. An HHT type 2 iPS cell line was generated via a single-allele knockout (ACVRL1wt/mut) in wild-type (ACVRL1wt/wt) iPSCs, resulting in a heterozygous 17 bp frameshift deletion in the ACVRL1 gene [NG_009549.1:g.13707_13723del; NM_000020.3:c.1137_1153del]. After the generation of embryoid bodies (EBs), endothelial differentiation was induced via adding 4 ng/mL BMP4, 2% B27, and 10 ng/mL VEGF. Endothelial differentiation was monitored via immunocytochemistry. An analysis of 151 TGF-beta/BMP-related genes was performed via RT-qPCR through the use of mRNA derived from single iPS cell cultures as well as endothelial cells derived from EBs after endothelial differentiation. Differential TGF-beta/BMP gene expression was observed between ACVRL1wt/wt and ACVRL1wt/mut iPSCs as well as endothelial cells. EBs derived from CRISPR/Cas9-designed ACVRL1 mutant HHT type 2 iPSCs, together with their isogenic wild-type iPSC counterparts, can serve as valuable resources for HHT type 2 in vitro studies.

The index of refraction n(E_{\gamma})=1+\delta(E_{\gamma})+i\beta(E_{\gamma}) is split into a real part \delta and an absorptive part \beta. The absorptive part has the three well-known contributions to the cross section \sigma_{abs}: the photo effect, the Compton effect and the pair creation, but there is also the inelastic Delbr\"uck scattering. Second-order elastic scattering cross sections \sigma_{sca} with Rayleigh scattering (virtual photo effect), virtual Compton effect and Delbr\"uck scattering (virtual pair creation) can be calculated by integrals of the Kramers-Kronig dispersion relations from the cross section \sigma_{abs}. The real elastic scattering amplitudes are proportional to the refractive indices \delta_{photo}, \delta_{Compton} and \delta_{pair}. While for X-rays the negative \delta_{photo} dominates, we show for the first time experimentally and theoretically that the positive \delta_{pair} dominates for \gamma rays, opening a new era of \gamma optics applications, i.e. of nuclear photonics., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

The 150Sm nucleus has been studied to high spins in a measurement of gamma radiation following the 136Xe(18O,4n)150Sm, compound-nucleus reaction at beam energy of 76 MeV. The measurement was performed at NBI Riso using the NORDBALL array. Alternating parity, s=+1 band in 150Sm has been observed up to spin I=22. This band is crossed by two aligned bands, corresponding to a reflection-symmetric shape. After the second crossing the s=+1 band ends abruptly, suggesting that the octupole shape vanishes in 150Sm above spin I=22, as predicted by calculations. Spin and parity assignments were based on the angular distribution ratios and linear polarizations of γ-rays. The experimental results have been compared with the calculations of Tilted Axis Cranking (TAC) model.

Purpose No standardized treatment regimen exists for juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP). The investigators hypothesized that irrigation with saline only without local anesthesia will be an effective and beneficial option. Methods Using a retrospective study design, a series of children with typical symptoms of JRP who were treated with at least one irrigation therapy were evaluated. This treatment consisted of irrigation of the affected gland with 3–10 ml saline solution without any type of anesthesia. The outcome variables were patient/parent satisfaction, frequency and duration of acute JRP episodes, and the need for antibiotics before and after irrigation therapy. Results The case series was composed of six boys aged 3.3–7.7 years who experienced one to eight sessions of irrigation therapy. The period of follow-up was 9–64 months. We observed a total resolution of symptoms in two children and an improvement in the other four. No relevant side effects were seen. Conclusion Our results suggest that irrigation therapy is a reasonable, simple, and minimally invasive treatment alternative for JRP. In contrast to sialendoscopy or sialography, there is no need for general anesthesia or radiation exposure.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) type 2 is an autosomal dominant disease in which one allele of the ACVRL1 gene is mutated. Patients exhibit disturbances in TGF-beta/BMP-dependent angiogenesis and, clinically, often present with severe nosebleeds as well as a reduced quality of life. The aim of our study was to use CRISPR/Cas9 to knockout ACVRL1 in normal induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and evaluate the effects on TGF-beta- and BMP-related gene expression as well as angiogenesis. The CRISPR/Cas9 knockout of the ACVRL1 gene was carried out in previously characterized wild-type (ACVRL1
wt/wt ) iPSCs. An HHT type 2 iPS cell line was generated via a single-allele knockout (ACVRL1wt/mut ) in wild-type (ACVRL1wt/wt ) iPSCs, resulting in a heterozygous 17 bp frameshift deletion in the ACVRL1 gene [NG_009549.1:g.13707_13723del; NM_000020.3:c.1137_1153del]. After the generation of embryoid bodies (EBs), endothelial differentiation was induced via adding 4 ng/mL BMP4, 2% B27, and 10 ng/mL VEGF. Endothelial differentiation was monitored via immunocytochemistry. An analysis of 151 TGF-beta/BMP-related genes was performed via RT-qPCR through the use of mRNA derived from single iPS cell cultures as well as endothelial cells derived from EBs after endothelial differentiation. Differential TGF-beta/BMP gene expression was observed between ACVRL1wt/wt and ACVRL1wt/mut iPSCs as well as endothelial cells. EBs derived from CRISPR/Cas9-designed ACVRL1 mutant HHT type 2 iPSCs, together with their isogenic wild-type iPSC counterparts, can serve as valuable resources for HHT type 2 in vitro studies. Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Patienten mit hereditärer hämorrhagischer Teleangiektasie (HHT) leiden unter einer systemischen Erkrankung des Gefäßbindegewebes, bei der eine Vielzahl verschiedener Symptome auftritt. Material und Methoden Die Daten aller Patienten, die sich von April 2014 bis August 2019 im Westdeutschen Morbus-Osler-Zentrum vorstellten, wurden in einer retrospektiven Studie analysiert. Ergebnisse Bei 235 Patienten konnte die Diagnose HHT als definitiv (235/282; 83 %) und bei 26 als möglich gestellt werden (26/282; 9 %). Die mittlere diagnostische Latenz zwischen Erstsymptomen und Diagnose betrug 18 Jahre. Direkte oder indirekte Blutungszeichen wurden oft als erste Symptome der Erkrankung HHT genannt (224/241; 93 %). 83 % der Patienten mit einem Grad der Behinderung gaben HHT als Hauptursache an. Insbesondere ältere, weibliche Patienten bzw. Patienten mit starker Epistaxis litten an einer chronischen Eisenmangelanämie (Eisensubstitution:148/261; 57 %; Erythrozytenkonzentrate: Mittelwert: 9 ± Standardabweichung: 41, Minimum – Maximum: 0–400, Anzahl der Patienten: 218). 10 % erhielten eine Thrombozytenaggregationshemmung oder Antikoagulation und tolerierten diese. 74 % der Patienten mit HHT pflegten ihre Nasenschleimhaut (177/238) und zeigten weniger Blutungen als Patienten ohne Nasenpflege (ESS: t-Test: 3,193; p = 0,003; Anämie: Chi-Quadrat: 5,173; p = 0,023). Schlussfolgerungen Die Diagnoselatenz der Erkrankung HHT betrug knapp 2 Jahrzehnte. Patienten mit HHT leiden insbesondere an rezidivierenden Blutungen, die dabei meistindizierte Behandlung der ersten Wahl ist eine konsequente Nasenpflege und verschiedene koagulative Therapieoptionen. Bei Begleiterkrankungen mit Indikation zur Gerinnungshemmung lohnt es sich meist, deren Einsatz zu versuchen.

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is an autosomal dominant disease with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 5000 that is characterized by the presence of vascular malformations (VMs). These result in chronic bleeding, acute hemorrhage, and complications from shunting through VMs. The goal of the Second International HHT Guidelines process was to develop evidence-based consensus guidelines for the management and prevention of HHT-related symptoms and complications.METHODS: The guidelines were developed using the AGREE II (Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II) framework and GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) methodology. The guidelines expert panel included expert physicians (clinical and genetic) in HHT from 15 countries, guidelines methodologists, health care workers, health care administrators, patient advocacy representatives, and persons with HHT. During the preconference process, the expert panel generated clinically relevant questions in 6 priority topic areas. A systematic literature search was done in June 2019, and articles meeting a priori criteria were included to generate evidence tables, which were used as the basis for recommendation development. The expert panel subsequently convened during a guidelines conference to conduct a structured consensus process, during which recommendations reaching at least 80% consensus were discussed and approved.RECOMMENDATIONS: The expert panel generated and approved 6 new recommendations for each of the following 6 priority topic areas: epistaxis, gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia and iron deficiency, liver VMs, pediatric care, and pregnancy and delivery (36 total). The recommendations highlight new evidence in existing topics from the first International HHT Guidelines and provide guidance in 3 new areas: anemia, pediatrics, and pregnancy and delivery. These recommendations should facilitate implementation of key components of HHT care into clinical practice.

Background The histological differentiation of individual types of vascular anomalies (VA), such as lymphatic malformations (LM), hemangioma (Hem), paraganglioma (PG), venous malformations (VeM), arteriovenous malformations (AVM), pyogenic granulomas (GP), and (not otherwise classified) vascular malformations (VM n.o.c.) is frequently difficult due to the heterogeneity of these anomalies. The aim of the study was to evaluate digital image analysis as a method for VA stratification Methods A total of 40 VA tissues were examined immunohistologically using a selection of five vascular endothelial-associated markers (CD31, CD34, CLDN5, PDPN, VIM). The staining results were documented microscopically followed by digital image analyses based quantification of the candidate-marker-proteins using the open source program ImageJ/Fiji. Results Differences in the expression patterns of the candidate proteins could be detected particularly when deploying the quotient of the quantified immunohistochemical signal values. Deploying signal marker quotients, LM could be fully distinguished from all other tested tissue types. GP achieved stratification from LM, Hem, VM, PG and AVM tissues, whereas Hem, PG, VM and AVM exhibited significantly different signal marker quotients compared with LM and GP tissues. Conclusion Although stratification of different VA from each other was only achieved in part with the markers used, the results of this study strongly support the usefulness of digital image analysis for the stratification of VA. Against the background of upcoming new diagnostic techniques involving artificial intelligence and deep (machine) learning, our data serve as a paradigm of how digital evaluation methods can be deployed to support diagnostic decision making in the field of VAs.

International audience; Background: Nuclear structure of the neutron-rich isotopes beyond 132 Sn is investigated. Purpose: The level scheme of 137 I is obtained after decay of 137 Te. Transitions in 136 I are detected after delayed neutron emission of 137 Te. The half life of 137 Te is measured. Methods:-delayed-ray spectroscopy is employed for neutron-rich 137 Sb and 137 Te isotopes, produced at the ILL after neutron-induced fission to populate excited states in 137 I. Results: The new decay level scheme of 137 I is established. The half lives of 137 Sb and 137 Te are determined as 0.57(26) s and 2.46(5) s, respectively. The-delayed neutron emission probability P limiting value of 137 Te is deduced to be 2.17(66)%. Conclusions: The experimental results are an important input to the theoretical description of nuclei in the region, being well interpreted within LSSM calculations and provide essential information on the firstforbidden transitions beyond > 82 and > 50.

Neutron-rich 119Pd nuclei were produced in fission of natural uranium, induced by 25-MeV protons. Fission fragments swiftly extracted with the Ion Guide Isotope Separation On-Line method were mass separated using a dipole magnet and a Penning trap, providing mono-isotopic samples of 119Pd. Their β− decay was measured with γγ- and βγ-spectroscopy methods using low-energy germanium detectors and a thin plastic scintillator. Two distinct nuclear-level structures were observed in 119Ag, based on the 1/2− and 7/2+ isomers reported previously. The β−-decay work was complemented by a prompt-γ study of levels in 119Ag populated in spontaneous fission of 252Cf, performed using the Gammasphere array of germanium detectors. Contrary to previous suggestions, our data show that the 1/2− isomer is located below the 7/2+ isomer and is proposed as a new ground state of 119Ag with the 7/2+ isomer excitation energy determined to be 33.4 keV. Our data indicate that there are two β unstable isomers in 119Pd, a proposed ground state of 119Pd with tentative spin 1/2+ or 3/2+ and a half-life of 0.88 s and the other one about 350 keV above, having spin (11/2−) and a half-life of 0.85 s. The higher-energy isomer probably decays to the 1/2+ or 3/2+ ground state via a γ cascade comprising 18.7-219.8-X-keV transitions. The unobserved isomeric transition with energy X≈100 keV probably has an E3 multipolarity. Its hindrance factor is significantly lower than for analogous E3 isomeric transitions in lighter Pd isotopes, suggesting an oblate deformation of levels in 119Pd. Oblate configurations in 119Ag are discussed also. peerReviewed

Low-spin, excited states of the 89Br nucleus, populated in β− decay of 89Se have been studied for the first time. The 89Se nuclei were produced in proton-induced fission of natural thorium using the IGISOL facility and separated using a dipole magnet and the coupled JYFLTRAP Penning trap. Gamma radiation following the β− decay of 89Se was measured with an array of high-resolution germanium detectors. Levels scheme of 89Br was extended by 12 new levels and 31 new γ transitions. Spin-parity (3/2+) has been proposed for the ground state of the 89Se mother nucleus, replacing the (5/2+) assignment reported in data bases. The observed Gamow-Teller β− transition to the 1754.5-keV level indicates a πg9/2-based configuration. The level scheme of 89Br has been compared to large scale shell-model calculations. Excitations based on πp3/2 and πf5/2 single-particle levels as well as their anomalous coupling are proposed to explain the low-energy excitation scheme of 89Br. peerReviewed

Lifetimes of excited states of the 98;100;102Zr nuclei were measured by using the Generalized Centroid Difference Method. The nuclei of interest were populated via neutron-induced fission of 241Pu and 235U during the EXILL-FATIMA campaign. The obtained lifetimes were used to calculate the B(E2) transition strengths and β deformation parameters which were then compared with the recent theoretical predictions obtained with Monte Carlo Shell Model.

At the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, germanium-gated γ-γ fast-timing lifetime measurements of nuclear excited states in neutron-rich nuclei have been performed within a prompt γ-ray spectroscopy experimental campaign. We report on results obtained from the cold-neutron induced fission of 235U. The excited secondary fission products were stopped almost instantaneously within the thick target and the γ rays emitted were collected triggerlessly using the EXILL&FATIMA mixed array of HPGe and LaBr3(Ce) detectors. Precise lifetimes could be determined by analysing the γ-γ time difference spectra using the generalized centroid difference method. This picosecondsensitive method provides many advantages and is briefly explained. Still, the major source of systematic errors is related to the contribution of time-correlated Compton background. The EXILL&FATIMA results are discussed with respect to the typical energy-dependent timing behaviour of the background. According to the time response of the background, appropriate methods and a time correction for the sub-nanosecond regime are proposed.

Recent results on the structure of 47Ca will be presented. The nucleus of interest was populated via the cold-neutron capture 46Ca(n,γ) reaction, on a rare 46Ca target, during the EXILL experimental campaign at the nuclear reactor of Institut Laue- Langevin in Grenoble. High-resolution γ-ray spectroscopy, performed with a composite array of HPGe detectors, enabled the identification of new transitions deexciting states between the neutron-capture level and the ground state. Experimental data will be compared with a novel microscopic theoretical model, currently under development, specifically designed to describe the low-lying structure of odd-mass nuclei with one valence particle/hole outside a spherical doubly-magic core, using the Skyrme effective interaction self-consistently.

The γ decays of excited states in the very neutron-rich nucleus 88Se have been observed following the cold neutron-induced fission of 235U at the PF1B facility of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble. The EXILL array was used to measure γ - γ - γ coincidences, which were then analysed to build a level scheme of 88Se. A low (2+1) energy hints at the onset of quadrupole deformation and the identification of possible members of a (2+2) band provide evidence for γ vibrations. Shell-model calculations using a 78Ni core reproduce the experimental decay scheme well, implying that interactions between particles in the π f5/2 p and vsd orbits are responsible for much of the collectivity present. The algebraic collective model has also been used to interpret the experimental data, showing that that the experimental spectrum is consistent with 88Se being a transitional nucleus, possessing weak static β deformation and γ instability.

The work reports several new excited states in the neutron-rich 147La nucleus, populated in spontaneous fission of 252Cf. The excitation scheme has been reinvestigated by means of γ-ray spectroscopy, using high-fold γ coincidences measured with the Gammasphere array of Ge detectors. It is shown that the 229.65-keV level has spin and parity 11/2-, which changes the 9/2- spin-parity reported in a recent evaluation and sets up the spinparity of the ground state as 5/2+. New levels allow to arrange the excitation scheme of 147La into a parity-doublet-like structure showing that the 147La nucleus may have an octupole deformation.
